I have been an intern at the district secretariat in Kurunegala as a trainee counselor at the social service department for 03 months. I’m so grateful for landing upon this opportunity. The internship period created a foundation to be successful in the field of counseling because it was like a practical training of theories which we learned during the past years and those learnings gave much help to do the internship successfully. During my intern period I was responsible for organizing awareness programmes, updating client details to the main database, preparing treatment plans, getting basic details from the clients, to implement meditation for the clients, to take part for ongoing projects and to Conduct relaxation activities during awareness programmes. It was a good opportunity to improve my skills like; Communication skills, Interpersonal skills, creativity and problem-solving skills. The company has a well-organized company structure and all the duties and responsibilities were divided accordingly. All the staff members were so friendly and they were always there to help in need. Company rules and regulations were also not very strict for interns and the management was willing to help for any tasks done by the interns. The supervisor also did an incredible duty during my internship period. There were three interns including me and my supervisor gave us the same opportunity to perform and allow us to do tasks as a team. It was a great experience for us. However, it was not much difficult to balance the work and personal life during the internship. The experience that I had via my internship period helped me to start my career as an assistant lecturer in psychology in a private university and this internship experience was a value-added point beside my GPA. For those who are seeking internship opportunities; Kurunegala District Secretariat is one of the best places. You have the best resources here, get the help from them. They are always there for you and find a company that helps you to grow, seek advice from your seniors, Talk to people in the industry. Finally, your hard work and dedication will make your internship successful. If you give your best from the beginning, you can end up with a great result.
I began my internship at the Psychiatry and counseling Unit of Base Hospital Kiribathgoda as a counseling trainee. Even It just 4 months I feels like I have come afar. My internship period provided me the opportunity to assist clients, diagnose psychological disorders and to conduct counseling sessions. The host company helped me to master my skills like active listening, empathetic response, problem solving, team works and so on. The theoretical knowledge related to psychological disorders, treatments, theories and counseling contributed a huge role to apply in practical aspects. Therefore, this was a practical exposure about the things we learned in our academic period. The hospital was calm and friendly place for me at the beginning working with people who have psychological disorders was little bit stress and tired. But by the time I successfully balanced it. My supervisor always guided me and co-interns in the right way and conducted lectures related to Counseling, Psychology and Psychotherapy. Whenever we had a question related to the field, he corrected us in a friendly manner and always stood behind us. My internship period is one of unforgettable experience I’ve got in my life. The whole time was very interesting and full of new experiences. The most favorite parts of my internship is Observing clients and Attending lectures that doctor has conducted. We were able to conduct workshop for students in ” Diyagala Boys town – Ragama”. during the intern period. The experience I got in my internship is the main reason that pushed me to shape my career path as a special needs’ education teacher in one of leading international schools in Sri Lanka. So, if you are willing to improve your practical knowledge about psychology, Base Hospital Kiribathgoda is the best place to complete your internship. No matter the time duration you are working here or whatever the position in this hospital, stay friendly with all the members, gain the knowledge and serve your best to your clients and protect this place for future. Besides that, I am thankful to the lecturers in the Department of Philosophy and Psychology for providing the internship.
Hi, I’m Asma Iqbal. First of all, I’m glad to choose the field of psychology for my higher studies which is an interesting Path. I selected Base hospital, Tangalle for my internship with the aim of becoming a psychological counselor in future. I have been interned in the psychiatric ward as a psychological counseling trainee of base hospital for about three months. I began my internship just as an empty bottle but day by day through the Practical, new experiences, observations and learning that bottle was filled. For about Few weeks I had to do only the observation and learning then the rest of the intern period I was responsible to do psychological assessments of newly registered clients, to assess and identify psychological disorders, to assess the Risk of suicide, assess IQ using Toni3 and to assess mini mental statement of patients as well. In addition to that I was able to conduct counseling, psychotherapy and occupational therapy as well. The most interesting thing in my intern period is joining for ward rounds and at the end of the week presenting what I have learnt throughout the week. Training as a psychological counselor is a little bit hard because we are dealing with the human mind. Even though it’s hard due to the friendly and supportive working environment it was not hard at all. This practical oriented experience rather than theoretical knowledge helped me to polish my skills like interpersonal relationship, active listening, empathy, time management, decision taking, creativity, problem resolution and so on. I would like to thank and remember the Consultant Psychiatric Doctor Manoj Panamulla who was my first mentor and his staff who were always there for me via providing their knowledge and were able to give their best to improve my experiences in the field. This internship opportunity was the place which opened the door for my career through giving me the confidence that I am well suited to the profession. Now I’m working in the department of Philosophy and Psychology University of Sri Jayewardenepura and again training as a psychological counselor at University Hospital, KDU.Those who are seeking and doing internship; I would like to tell that don’t waste your intern period just to complete your academic intern module. Go and grab the skills and improve your practicals and don’t hesitate to ask anything if you have any problem or a doubt. So, if you are currently thinking of entering the field of psychological counseling, I highly recommend you to undertake an internship at base hospital, Tangalle. Start from the bottom while improving your skills which will be helpful for your future growth in profession. It’s ok to enter for you first intern just as an empty bottle but leave the place just like a full filled water bottle. Don’t leave the place the way you entered. Finally, Thankful for the department for providing intern opportunities to shine a luminous light and steering us in the right direction.
I have started my internship as a Human resource trainee and a trainee counselor at Miami Clothing (Pvt) Ltd. At first, I got an idea about the basic process of the institution. I was responsible for diverse tasks related to HR like grievance handling, database management, Reports preparing and Salary distribution etc. Not only that, I was assigned to solve employees’ problems related to their work and mental health through counseling practice. I was able to participate in job fairs, programmes and for mindfulness activities as well. Within a short period of internship, it helped me to acknowledge skills like counseling skills, time management etc. Due to the friendly working environment even, I was a strange person to this field it helped me to achieve and complete the tasks which are assigned for me. The experiences which have been gained through the internship opportunity was very significant to be advanced in the field. Therefore, always pay your attention to track all aspects of an organization, not just one. Once everything is identified, you can be easily understood. Then you will see exactly what you need to do. For the new beginners I would like to say that Start from the very first step so that nothing is left out. Through our learning we can go to certain things.
Being an Intern at District General Hospital as a psychological counselor is a great opportunity in my life. The experience that I had received throughout my intern period was practical oriented. I was able to apply my theoretical knowledge that I learned in my academic period. During my internship, I gained real life psychological counseling experience under the field of clinical counseling via assessing and doing counseling for clients, psychotherapies and conducting awareness programs. Not only the experiences relevant to the field but also, I was able to enhance the counseling skills like listening, empathy and communicational skills which should be improved in a counselor when entering into the counseling field. The entire staff treated me in a friendly and cooperative manner. Due to that I was able to balance difficult circumstances when engaging with clients. Doing an internship as an undergraduate is a huge challenge to balance academic and professional life. With the proper time management skill, I was able to overcome that. My fellow interns, before starting your internship please select the suitable place which is really going to enhance your life through giving practical experiences and theoretical knowledge as well. An internship means an amazing learning experience which leads to many job opportunities in the future. The door which was opened through my first internship is the reason for me to work as an executive counselor in a leading apparel company in Sri Lanka.

Max the campus cat? Try Dr. Max the Cat, thank you very much.
Vermont State University Castleton's 2024 graduating class had the honor of sharing their commencement celebrations over the weekend with none other than Max, a tabby cat who has become something of a local celebrity during his time at the university.
Max, recognized by the college by his formal name Max Dow, has become something of a fixture on campus since moving into his nearby home with his mom, Ashley Dow, about five years ago.
A former feral kitten of a nearby town, Max moved onto the very same street that leads to the campus's main entrance. The curious kitty soon learned that, while school can be a slog for some, college can be lots of fun for felines.
When Max was about a year old, he began exploring his neighborhood, Dow told USA TODAY. One day, he went missing and his family began the search. That's when they first found him on campus and, soon, they began hearing from the students.
"They just love him," Dow told USA TODAY. "I get students giving me welfare checks on him throughout the day."
Max the cat's campus life
For Max, paying a visit to the Castleton campus means getting lots of attention, taking rides on backpacks, scaling the greenhouse, posing for endless selfies, basking anywhere he pleases and even leading tour groups.
"He's been on the dean's desk, he made himself at home on the dean's desk," Dow said. "He's been in the coffee house, he walked right up to the head of the graduate program and she tracked me down and asked if I was Max's mom."
Max even attempts to visit the campus during breaks but returns disappointed after discovering no students are there, said Dow. Once, he got confused and stopped visiting after classes resumed, prompting students who thought he had disappeared to make a memorial for him, complete with framed photos and candles.
"The college has called a couple of times asking if he's OK and I say, 'No he's fine, he's just fat and lazy,'" Dow joked. "We brought him up a couple of times and ... told him don't forget the people up there because they miss you."
Vermont State University students help keep an eye on Max
Dow said that students at the campus often look out for Max.
Ever since an attack by a feral cat left Max injured, Dow posted signs around campus asking students to text, call or bring him home if they see him hanging outside after 5 p.m. The students do just that, on top of providing periodic updates throughout the day.
In one case, a since-graduated student returned to town and stopped by Dow's business to ask how Max was. In another, a post on social media led students to believe Max had been injured, prompting a full-blown search that included not only students but the campus police.
"(People) ask 'Are you Max's mom?' And I'm like, 'How did you know that?'" said Dow, who has come to accept her new moniker as mom to the most famous cat in town.
A doctor of litter-ature
The college couldn't put Max on the payroll (likely thanks to his lack of valid ID and tax documents), so they've offered him the special honor instead.
"Max the Cat has been an affectionate member of the Castleton family for years," the university shared in posts on Instagram and Facebook.
"With a resounding purr of approval from the faculty, the Board of Trustees of the Vermont State Cat-leges has bestowed upon Max Dow the prestigious title of Doctor of Litter-ature, complete with all the catnip perks, scratching post privileges, and litter box responsibilities that come with it," the university said.
According to Dow, who was floored and amused when the school contacted her about the degree, some people in her life didn't believe the turn of events at first. A coworker she told thought she was a little "crazy," she said, until Max started appearing on the news.
"She said 'Ashley, I'm sorry, I thought you were crazy but now I see it's true,'" Dow said. "Everyone loves it except people who don't get it because they haven't met Max."
Max − that's Dr. Max to you − did not get to walk on the stage but did make an appearance on campus this weekend, said Dow, and will likely start popping up in graduation photos all across social media. His official diploma will be sent to his home via mail.
"I'm so super happy he makes everyone so happy, he's a great cat and it's awesome," Dow said. "(The students) were talking about how during finals they saw him and he made them less stressed and I get it ... I'm glad it makes people happy and I'm glad to share."

Investor, businessman, attorney, and philanthropist Charles (Charlie) Thomas Munger died on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at age 99. Nationally, Munger was best known as vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, where he worked alongside his friend Warren Buffett for almost five decades. At Stanford, he was known for his longtime service at the law school, quick wit, and incredible generosity.

In 2004, he and his wife, former university trustee Nancy Munger, ’45, made a gift to construct the Charles and Nancy Munger Graduate Residence, a campus residential complex that houses graduate students from across the university. At the time, the gift was believed to be the largest individual gift ever given outright to an American law school, as well as the largest gift for Stanford student housing.
“I am deeply grateful to Charlie Munger for his remarkable commitment to Stanford,” said President Richard Saller. “Through his generous philanthropic support and his dedication as a volunteer and advisor, he had a profound impact on the lives of our students and faculty. In particular, his vision for the benefits of collaborative learning and residential education helped shape our vibrant campus environment. He leaves a legacy that will benefit the Stanford community for generations.”
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1924, Munger was the son of a lawyer, Alfred Case Munger, and grandson of Thomas Charles Munger, a U.S. district court judge and state representative. As a teenager in Omaha, he worked at Buffett & Son, a grocery store owned by Warren Buffett’s grandfather. Munger attended the University of Michigan, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps., and received a JD in 1948 from Harvard Law School.
Munger married Stanford alumna Nancy Barry Borthwick in 1956. Both had been previously married and had young children. Of the eight children in their blended family, four would go on to earn Stanford undergraduate and/or law degrees: Wendy Munger, ’72, who is a former member of the university’s Board of Trustees; Charles Thomas Munger, Jr., ’79; Emilie Munger Ogden, ’81, JD ’89; and Barry Alfred Munger, ’84. Several grandchildren are also alums.
While not an alum himself, Munger’s legal background drew him into active involvement at Stanford Law School, where he served for decades on the Dean’s Strategic Council and the Law School Board of Visitors, and helped to launch the Law and Business Advisory Council. He became a trusted advisor to deans and many faculty members.
“Charlie Munger made such a difference through his support of the Law School,” said Provost Jenny Martinez, who worked with Munger as dean of Stanford Law School. “The Munger graduate residences were transformative for student life, helping foster deeper community and more academic and extracurricular engagement. He also supported so many other urgent needs over the years, from faculty to academic programs.”
Together, the Mungers were Stanford volunteers and champions. Nancy Munger, who died in 2010, devoted more than 30 years to volunteer leadership at Stanford and became one of few alumni to hold the Gold Spike Award, which honors distinguished longtime service to the university. Much of the couple’s philanthropy at Stanford was directed to the law school, where they created the Nancy and Charles Munger Professorship in Business. Other gifts were directed to Hoover Institution, Stanford Medicine, and the School of Humanities and Sciences. The Munger Rotunda in the Bing Wing of Green Library is also named for their generosity.
But the gift that most significantly changed the Stanford landscape was the Munger Graduate Residence, a five-building complex that houses more than 600 graduate students across disciplines adjacent to the law school’s campus. The objective was to build “a community that doesn’t exist yet in American education,” Charlie Munger said at the time. It did so by attracting graduate students from different fields of study – law, business, medicine, education, engineering, the sciences, and others – and promoting their interactions. “The education these students will give each other is probably every bit as important as the education the professors will give them,” he said.
In 2004, he sent an eight-page fax to the office of John L. Hennessy, then Stanford president, which explained in block capitals and freehand drawings various recommendations for the design, from the corridors to the “very extreme soundproofing,” four-bedroom suites to foster social life, and units to “allow comfortable use by conversation groups.”

“Charlie’s Fax,” as the document became known, would have been a credit to any professional architect. In fact, the finished buildings, which became fully occupied in the 2009-10 academic year, would bear a striking resemblance to his original sketches. The new residence won high praise from students as they moved in, with remarks like “the most beautiful student housing I’ve ever seen.”
“Charlie was brilliant and loved to tackle hard problems,” said Hennessy, who is the Shriram Family Director of the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program as well as the James F. and Mary Lynn Gibbons Professor in the School of Engineering. “Building a new residence that both worked well for our students and achieved ‘Munger efficiency’ was the challenge we faced. As he reminded me several times while we worked together, I would like his ideas because ‘I was smart, and he was right!’ In the end, we came up with a design that achieved both our goals of student satisfaction and efficiency.”
Munger was well known at Stanford, and elsewhere, for his quips, quotes, and one-liners. He dispensed advice in a book titled Poor Charlie’s Almanack , in a nod to Benjamin Franklin’s most famous work.
“Charlie was a real character and could be a force of nature: a magnitude 9.0 earthquake, category 5 hurricane, and a thousand-year flood, all rolled into one,” said Joseph A. Grundfest, the emeritus William A. Franke Professor of Law and Business, who was both a friend and colleague. “He was also generous and thoughtful beyond belief. The dormitories he contributed to Stanford, now affectionately known as Mungerville, transformed the culture of Stanford’s graduate community in a profound and very beneficial way.”

Harvard Corporation Rules Thirteen Students Cannot Graduate
Faculty of arts and sciences may 20 vote on protestors’ status does not confer “good standing.”.
On Monday, during the Faculty of Arts and Sciences’ meeting on students’ eligibility to receive their degrees, members voted that 13 students found by the College’s Administrative Board to have violated University policies during their pro-Palestinian encampment in Harvard Yard should be included on the list of those eligible [ Corrected 4:58 p.m. : a previous version of this story incorrectly said the faculty voted that those students were in “good standing”]. That meant that the faculty voted the students should receive their degrees at the 373 rd Commencement tomorrow—an action, overruling the Administrative Board, that transferred the final decision to the Harvard Corporation. The President and Fellows (the Corporation) are ultimately responsible for conferring degrees.
The Administrative Board ruling spurred new protests by the students’ supporters, including a weekend march to interim president Alan M. Garber’s home, and furious, dueling editorials and op-eds in the Crimson . Advocates of the students cite prior protest encampments, in which the University did not impose similar discipline; their critics cite the violation of Harvard rules on protests, and reports of harassing or intimidating behavior toward others during the encampment.
In a statement released this afternoon, the Corporation said that since the students are not in good standing, they therefore will not receive their degrees at Commencement. That may further fuel possible attempts during the morning exercises to protest both the Israel-Gaza war itself and the University’s response to the encampment and other campus actions. The Corporation’s statement follows:
In accordance with the University statutes, the President and Fellows of Harvard College are responsible for conferring degrees on students who have fulfilled degree requirements and are in good standing.
Degree candidates are recommended to the President and Fellows, collectively known as the Harvard Corporation, by the faculties at Harvard’s schools. On Monday, faculty members who attended a Faculty of Arts and Sciences meeting amended the list of candidates provided by the FAS Registrar, who certifies that students have met the requirements and are in good standing. The faculty amendment added to the list of recommended Harvard College degree recipients thirteen students who are not in good standing.
Each of these students has been found by the College’s Administrative Board — the body established by the FAS faculty to investigate and adjudicate disciplinary matters—to have violated the University’s policies by their conduct during their participation in the recent encampment in Harvard Yard. We respect each faculty’s responsibility to determine appropriate discipline for its students. Monday’s faculty vote did not, however, revisit these disciplinary rulings, did not purport to engage in the individualized assessment of each case that would ordinarily be required to do so, and, most importantly, did not claim to restore the students to good standing.
Today, we have voted to confer 7,782 degrees to students in good standing. Because the students included as the result of Monday’s amendment are not in good standing, we cannot responsibly vote to award them degrees at this time. In coming to this determination, we note that the express provisions of the Harvard College Student Handbook state that students who are not in good standing are not eligible for degrees. We also considered the inequity of exempting a particular group of students who are not in good standing from established rules, while other seniors with similar status for matters unrelated to Monday’s faculty amendment would be unable to graduate.
We understand that the inability to graduate is consequential for students and their families. We fully support the Faculty of Arts and Sciences’ stated intention to provide expedited review, at this time, of eligible requests for reconsideration or appeal. We will consider conferral of degrees promptly if, following the completion of all FAS processes, a student becomes eligible to receive a degree.
We care deeply about every member of our community—students, faculty, staff, researchers, and alumni—and we have chosen a path forward that accords with our responsibilities and reaffirms a process for our students to receive prompt and fair review.
—The President and Fellows of Harvard College

Smith, Tolbert, Wilson Punch Tickets to NCAA Outdoor Championships
- Sophomore Lauren Tolbert delivered the stoutest performance of the day, sprinting her way to the top of the Duke charts via a phenomenal race in the women's 800m.
- Tolbert parlayed the fastest 800m race of her career into an NCAA Championship bid as she blazed to a finish of 2:01.98 to earn the automatic qualifier, smashing the eight-year-old Duke record in the process.
- Having already advanced to the national meet in the women's heptathlon, Smith garnered her second qualification to the NCAA Outdoor Championships behind a career performance in the women's high jump.
- Smith cleared the opening four heights on her initial jump before bowing out of the competition with a final mark of 1.81m (5-11.25 feet) – good for ninth overall in the 48-member field. The senior's jump was nearly a one-foot improvement on her previous best and moved her up to No. 2 all-time in program lore.
- Two days after notching a PR in the first round of the 100m hurdles, Wilson one-upped her performance in the quarterfinal round to secure her spot in Eugene. The graduate student clocked a career best 13.01 seconds to qualify on time, improving her second-fastest Duke mark.
