So you have to make a corporate video "happen"?

We'll paraphrase famous marketer and WSJ author Ann Handley and tell you this:

… then making a professional corporate video can feel like pushing out an entire fleet of cars 🫢."

But fear not.

This post delivers every ounce of knowledge you need to pop that baby out fast and painlessly. You'll have the tools and know-how for every task so you can write a script, plan visuals, kick-off production, and coordinate your team flawlessly.

  • 5 tips to stand out as the expert on how to make a company video
  • The best tools video production companies use
  • Super-hero-level confidence that you got this 🦸

Let's jump in. 👇

What are corporate videos, and why are they so effective for your company?

The days of one big video production a year are in our rearview mirror.

For content-hungry viewers, that's great news! But if you're the one who's creating these videos, and having a corporate video production company do all the marketing strategy and implementation isn't an option, life's getting pretty tricky.

You've got an ever-increasing demand for quality, novelty, and volume. A thin tightrope to walk if you want to avoid burnout and keep up with competitors who keep pumping out marketing videos.

But pulling off a video project that is both creative and in line with the brand's tone and style brings you valuable outcomes:

  • Raise brand awareness: Consumers get to know your company and recognize you easier in different marketing contexts.
  • Foster connection: You inform, entertain, and impress your viewers, and by evoking emotions, you facilitate engagement and connection.
  • Inspire trust: You show up, demonstrate value, and stay top of mind, making people perceive your company as trustworthy.
  • Get free word-of-mouth publicity: You create the best videos, and consumers and employees happily share your videos across platforms, becoming your brand ambassadors.

12 popular types of corporate videos

  • Company values video
  • Brand video
  • Company culture video
  • Corporate vision video
  • Marketing video
  • Explainer video
  • Client testimonial video
  • Customer onboarding video
  • Employee orientation video
  • Employee interview video

1. Company values video

Brighton Technologies' example is a great corporate video that demonstrates how to convey your company values and encourage your audience to come to see with their own eyes.

Maybe your employees need to be reminded of your company's core values. Maybe you're looking to attract new, valuable talent. Or maybe you want to start actively creating a culture for the first time. Whatever it is, video content like this one can help you achieve your objectives easier.

What makes this corporate video example stand out:

  • Conveys a positive tone through the smiling, charismatic presenter, soft background music, and light color theme inspiring trust and professionalism.
  • Visuals are primarily text-based and pop through animation, sliding or being highlighted as the presenter discusses each value on the list.
  • Overhead shots of employees sitting together add clarity and visually demonstrate the company's support for teamwork and collaboration.

2. Sustainability initiatives

This video for internal communications by Green Earth Inc. educates employees on the company's sustainability initiatives and goals.

Whether you're aiming for renewable energy integration, creating waste recycling programs, or promoting a more sustainable supply chain, use videos to communicate your initiatives to the stakeholders. A visually engaging, impactful presentation will increase your chances of getting their buy-in and active participation.

  • A great color palette with earthy greens, cool blues, and neutral earth tones reflects the videos' focus on reducing the carbon footprint.
  • Stunning aerial shots of ocean waves and forested mountain peaks at sunset reflect the theme, provide a broader perspective, and keep the viewers engaged.
  • The parallel between nature video footage and a presenter in an office creatively suggests the transfer of caring for nature into the workspace.

3. Brand video

Bolt created this video to tell through the mouths of employees how it turned from a small Estonian startup to Europe's fastest-growing tech company.

Your company's on a journey; you'll always have stories to tell: how you started, unlocked milestones, innovative business approaches, employee spotlights, or successful partnerships and collaborations. Wrapping them in a brand video will help your organization create a sense of pride and connection while building brand recognition.

  • Conveys the idea of speed and dynamism through video and sound design, using fast-forward video footage, rapid beats, whoosh sounds, and rapid transitions.
  • Narration is delivered with enthusiasm and pride at a pace that accompanies the visuals and enforces the energetic tone of the video.
  • Tells the brand story through employees from diverse roles and ends with a call to action for viewers to come work at Bolt and grow as fast as the company did.

4. Company culture video

HubSpot's lively company culture video interviews employees on what it's like to work there.

Using video to showcase your organization's culture, values, and team dynamics by putting your employees under the spotlight is like pulling off the curtain from your offices. Potential new hires will quickly decide that they want to be there. And your current employees get to reflect on their benefits, potentially feeling increased work satisfaction.

  • Tells what's great about working there AND shows it with lively, energetic footage of their multiple global offices.
  • Showcases different employees' perspectives that hype the excitement right before the end, where we see the " To apply, go to hubspot.com/jobs" call to action.
  • Builds trust and credibility through social proof, mentioning the high rankings HubSpot received on reputable websites that evaluate employee satisfaction.

5. Corporate vision

MF Shipping Group's video illustrates corporate vision so emotionally that you'll easily flow with the story once you hit play.

Communicating your company's inspiring long-term goals and aspirations to motivate employees and win customers' emotional buy-in is no easy task, but it's well worth the effort. And because it's a vision you're trying to convey, a story-driven video will give you all the leverage you need to make your customers understand what you're striving for.

  • Creates a parallel between a child who dreams of ships and a grownup who ends up working on a ship, making the video highly emotional and relatable.
  • Narrative-driven execution that relies on video footage and an uplifting, empowering soundtrack, rarely using words and only as on-screen text .
  • The economy of words makes it highly effective at targeting global audiences, which is all the more valuable for a global shipping company.

6. "How it's Made" marketing video

Ruiten Foodpack, a leading company specializing in packaging all kinds of foods, created this "how it's made" marketing video that reveals their assembly lines.

Whether you offer customized products, like Ruiten Foodpack, or you have unique manufacturing techniques, artisanal products, or particularly sustainable and ethical processes, boasting about it in a "how it's made" video will serve your brand. Educating your customers will help differentiate you in the market and foster connection.

  • Uses high-quality visuals, close-up shots capturing intricate details, time-lapse, and fast-motion to emphasize specific processes and make the video more dynamic.
  • Features engaging background music and a narration tone that reflects the company's professionalism and the importance of its work.
  • Ends with a soft call to action that only states what the company excels at, leaving the viewers to decide to take the next step and contact them.

7. "How it Works" technology explainer video

Are you familiar with Microsoft's Explanimators series? In this video, they tell the "how it works" story of artificial intelligence.

Consumers love animated explanations for their simplified, catchy visuals. Use this type of video to explain concepts, processes, or technologies with animations that your employees, stakeholders, or clients will easily understand and enjoy watching.

  • Uses simplified animations to demonstrate a complex concept and make it more accessible to the audience.
  • Delivers the information as an interactive conversation, not a one-sided presentation, with a clear, well-structured narrative that maintains interest.
  • Voice-over feels accessible, well-paced, and articulate, ensuring a cohesive flow of information.

8. Product explainer video

Here's a catchy YouTube product explainer video introducing the launch story and an explainer of Payrix, an embedded payments solution for vertical SaaS platforms.

While the topic may not sound sexy, this explainer video example makes it undeniably interesting. Consider creating video explainers like this to showcase your products, differentiate your company, engage the market, and improve your conversions. And think of them as video ads, if you will.

  • Modern, sleek, and dynamic presentation aligns with the product's features.
  • Energetic text-on-screen animations combine with lots of 2D vector graphics to illustrate what the product does in a simplistic way.
  • Vibrant background music evokes the feeling of progress, innovation, and forward momentum the brand wants to convey with the product launch.

9. Client testimonials

Check out this grocery store testimonials video introducing a more interactive approach to showcasing customers' voices.

The voice of the customer is the loudest, and you can use it to build trust and credibility and to promote your products and services. Get all your success stories — enthusiastic feedback, thank-you messages, praises, or shout-outs on social media — and wrap them into a video like this. It might turn out to be your most powerful marketing instrument.

  • Interactive testimonial video where the viewer is prompted to select what customer testimonials they want to hear rather than passively watching them.
  • Looks more authentic and serves a broader audience by showing testimonials from customers of different demographics and lifestyles.
  • Attention-grabbing color theme, with bright yellow suggesting positivity and happiness, reflecting the customers' satisfaction.

10. Customer onboarding

Acme's customer onboarding video illustrates a less common but impactful way to make new customers feel welcomed and appreciated.

A customer onboarding corporate video is critical to guiding new customers through the initial stages of your collaboration, helping them make the most of your products or services, and ensuring an experience they'll praise.

  • Employs a dynamic template design in a timeline style, perfect for walking someone through a step-by-step process.
  • Structured and on point, delivering just the right information in each scene.
  • Feels warm and welcoming through the color palette, the presenter's cordial delivery, the name greeting in the beginning, and all the smiling faces.

11. Employee orientation

This employee orientation video shows how to make a great first impression on new hires, setting them up for a successful and unstressful first day of work.

Such warming introductions that help your new employees relax and be more confident will help them smoothly get up to speed and perform better. Use such videos whenever you bring in new hires and want to help them accommodate, but also speed up the workload relief for existing employees. You'll make everyone more productive and quickly create a more balanced work distribution.

  • Beautiful design, elegant through simplicity, with a light color theme that suggests calmness and openness, perfect feelings for an orientation video.
  • Positive delivery, not just through colors and a smiling presenter but also through the narration tone and lively background music.
  • Uses different visuals to support the narration, photographs of employees, and graphic symbols when giving company stats and introducing the to-do list.

12. Employee interviews

On a different note, here's a video example showing an employee interview AND the effect of great employee orientation videos on new hires. This employee enthusiastically describes his onboarding with the hiring company Antisel.

Think of similar ways your employees could spread the good word about your company. Reach out to relatively new employees and try to have them on record about how it felt to join your company. Then, use these employee interviews to attract new talent or create effective company culture videos.

  • Starts with a no-frill scene, suggesting authenticity and no attempt at fabricating an appearance.
  • After a simple but effective hook, it introduces the professionally designed video, adding a solid element of proof to the employee's testimonial.
  • Conveys a relatable tone by focusing, in the end, on what the employee felt, and while it lacks a clear call-to-action, it leaves the viewers wondering what it would be like for them to enjoy the same experience.

13. Company benefits overview

ABC Corp leverages the natural interest of "what's in it for me " and turns it into a visually engaging company benefits presentation.

Did someone say "Benefits?" Slip this word where (potential) employees hang out, and they'll be all ears flapping. Use this video example to convey your care for your employees and the value someone would get from joining your company.

  • Opens with a simple but effective hook and uses the presenter's excitement to set the audience's expectations.
  • Delivers essential information using simple graphics and transitions that let viewers focus on the actual benefits and appreciate them better.
  • Uses the call to action to suggest an extra benefit, a welcoming team who's always ready to support the new hires with any questions they might have.

14. Company policies and procedures

In another great example from ABC Corp, we see a demonstration of how to lightheartedly help hires pay attention to a serious topic.

Employees may yawn at company policies and procedures, but this structured communication prevents many liabilities. Use such videos to clarify your guidelines and protocols for employees, ensuring consistency, compliance, and a smooth workflow.

  • Tackles the visualization of a tough topic using bullet points, motion graphics for the on-screen text, iconography, and symbols.
  • The narrator performs a concise but effective delivery, stressing the seriousness of what's discussed while coming across as friendly.
  • Background music and subtle sound effects contribute to a pleasant viewing experience.

15. Tool onboarding

This video is the introductory lesson from an Asana onboarding micro-training with lessons of 1-3 minutes each.

Want to do technology and software or product training? Or do you want to instruct your employees on safety procedures, sales techniques, leadership, or management? Any training you create will be more enjoyable and have a higher completion rate if it's easy to follow through. And that's what this micro-training approach will help you achieve.

  • Begins with a catchy hook and introduces a clear structure, setting expectations and making viewers feel confident in their ability to master this tool.
  • Shows company logos to suggest the tool's popularity and wide usage and establish credibility.
  • Highlights the course structure in visual progression and with split-screen scenes where you can see both the presenter and the content discussed.

5 tips to make your corporate videos stand out

1. bring on the human touch.

Show off the heroes of your brand — your customers and employees. Share stories that tug at heartstrings to forge a genuine connection with your audience.

2. Channel your cross-platform swagger

Whether you post on YouTube, Instagram, or LinkedIn, consider what format works best on that platform and try cross-promotion. For instance, you could invite your YouTube viewers to join your Facebook group or check your Instagram page.

3. Make your humor pop like confetti

Spice your videos with humor if your brand allows it, or go all out with slightly off-chart storytelling and dazzling visuals. You want to crack the mold rather than break it, just enough to impress your audience without having them think your social media accounts were hacked.

4. Keep it short and snappy

Deliver a message that hits the mark, wrapped up in a quick video to keep viewers hooked from start to finish. Try to keep your videos at 1-5 minutes for basic concepts and 5-15 minutes for tutorials. If you need longer than that, consider breaking your content down to 1-3 minutes micro-videos.

5. Stay top of mind

Even likable brands and companies can get shadowed when they stop showing up. Pumping out quality, memorable content can help you dominate your niche in your consumers' minds.

Making a video presentation: FAQs

Your answers to the most frequently asked questions about making a video presentation.

How do I make a video presentation for free?

It’s hard to make a video presentation for free, because free video makers have limited features that usually aren’t geared toward professional presentations. Your best bet is making a presentation during a free trial with a leading video presentation maker. Most people quickly realize purchasing a subscription is worth the money.

How do I make a video out of a presentation?

Not all online video makers are geared toward making a video out of a presentation, so it’s important to use one that focuses on making videos for a professional setting. Look for features like: templates and scenes geared toward the business world; video branding capabilities; an easy-to-use workflow.

How do I make a narration video presentation?

There are three ways to make a narration video presentation.

  • Record narration separately and sync it to your presentation.
  • Upload first-person video footage. Merge it with your presentation.
  • Use a video presentation maker with in-app voice-over and recording features. (This is the easiest way to make a narration video presentation.)

How do I make an animated presentation?

Making an animated presentation from scratch is difficult unless you have advanced skills. Your best bet is to find a video presentation maker with a library of animations you can add to your presentation. Look for an online video maker that offers unique animations geared toward a professional setting.

4 must-have tips for making video presentations

Creating a video presentation is easy with Biteable. And it’s even easier if you follow these best practices.

Have a goal in mind

Every great video presentation starts with a goal. What are you trying to accomplish? Maybe you want to share a new idea with your colleagues. Maybe you want to report on important company metrics. Or maybe you want to do something else entirely.

It’s incredibly difficult to make a video presentation that moves the needle until you define exactly what your presentation aims to achieve. Figure that part out and the rest becomes much easier.

Choose a proven template

Now that you know what your presentation aims to achieve you can pick a template that fits. You can create your video presentation from scratch, but using a template as a starting point gives you guide rails for tempo and pacing, plus a proven structure designed by pros.

Biteable video presentation maker has plenty of template options geared toward a professional setting, plus hundreds of extra video scenes and animations to build out your video presentation as much or as little as you like.

Use animations that underscore your message

One of the biggest advantages of video presentations over something static like a PowerPoint is the presence of motion. Without even realizing it, your audience will remember the information better simply because video is a multimedia experience that combines movement, sound, and visuals. To make the most impact, choose your animations wisely and use movement in a way that underscores your key points.

Are you presenting on the massive growth your marketing team achieved? Use a graph showing upward movement to drive the point home. Do you have one key point you’re trying to make? Use animation to circle your text or arrows that point at your most important information.

(All of this is easy to do with the video scenes available in Biteable.)

Keep it short and sweet

The length of your video presentation matters. Too short and you won’t be able to convey enough information. Too long and your audience will tune out.

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to video presentation length. But in general, 1-2 minutes is the sweet spot for making a video presentation that holds attention while still getting all the important information across.

You’d be surprised how many details you can share in this amount of time. A 15-minute live presentation can easily be condensed into one or two minutes if you hone your message to focus on the key details.

Brand your video

This is probably one of the most important — and most overlooked — parts of creating a successful video presentation. You’d never create a PowerPoint with erratic, off-brand colors. Making a video presentation is no different.

It’s a subtle change, but it gives off a big signal that you are polished and professional, and that you and your video presentation mean business.

Take advantage of the unique branding feature in the Biteable video presentation maker to easily apply your colors and logo to your entire presentation.

Corporate Videos: The Definitive Guide (With 17 of the Best Examples)

Corporate Videos

I think you’ll agree with me when I say:

Getting people to pay attention to your corporate videos can be really difficult.

But why is that the case?

It’s because the vast majority of companies are going about it all wrong! They fail to take just a few simple measures at the beginning that would make all the difference to the effectiveness of the product at the end.

‘But what are these simple measures?’ I hear you ask.

Well, that’s exactly what I’m going to delve into in this post:

The definitive guide to creating an animated corporate video that will rank with the world’s best!

Table of Contents

What is a corporate video, what are corporate videos used for, why are corporate videos important, how much does it cost to produce a corporate video, what is your budget.

A corporate video is any non-advertisement video commissioned by a business, company, corporation, or organisation. Nowadays, the vast majority of them are published online on the business’ website and distributed through their social media channels and via email marketing.

Corporate videos serve many functions. The most common are:

  • Staff training videos
  • Safety videos
  • Investor and shareholder relations videos
  • Content strategy overview videos
  • Product or service explanation videos
  • Executive proposal videos

The 2 most common types are:

Corporate Brand Videos

A brand video is a high-quality clip that promotes your business by embodying its message and ethos without overtly selling the viewer a specific product or service. It is a powerful way of boosting your content and staying ahead of the competition.

The general industry standard for producing a good corporate brand video starts at about £10,000.

Here is a great example:

Corporate Explainer Videos

An explainer video is a short clip that, more often than not, uses a narrator to concisely explain anything about your company, product or service. It is an extremely engaging way of communicating often complex messages to your viewers in a personal manner.

The general industry standard for producing a good corporate explainer video starts at about £5,000.

If you would like to read my definitive guide to explainer videos, you can do so by following this link .

Corporate videos have become increasingly important in recent years because, as one HubSpot study found, 54% of consumers want to see more video content from a brand or business they support! So, if your business isn’t making them, you’re likely to fall behind in today’s digital climate.

For production alone, the general industry standard for a corporate video starts at about £4,000 and can go into the tens of thousands. It depends on what you want. Factors that effect it include animation or live-action style and quality, video duration, and the calibre of the agency you work with.

What are the Goals for Your Corporate Video?

When starting out with your corporate video, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is failing to outline, or even know, what exactly you want your video to achieve. This makes it virtually impossible for a video agency to choose the best video style for you.

“When starting out with your corporate video, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is failing to outline, or even know, what exactly you want your video to achieve.”

So, firstly, specify measurable reasons why you want a video in the first place. It is not sufficient to say ‘to explain my product.’

Good examples would be ‘improve my conversion rates’ or ‘boost my social media awareness.’

The agency will then have some direction and (a good one) will perform brand/customer research to see why you are not already achieving these goals. With the findings, they will be able to outline the specific key performance indicators (KPIs) that will make the greatest positive impact on your business.

For example, ‘increase new customer sales by 15%’ or ‘get 25% more enquires through social media.’

This information is vital when it comes to choosing and creating each component for your business.

Your budget is intrinsically linked to your KPIs. So you should work out what your return on investment (ROI) would be if your KPIs were met.

For example:

If your KPI is to increase new customer sales by 15%.

  • Calculate how many new customers that would be each year.
  • Work out the lifetime value of each new customer.
  • Estimate your ROI by multiplying the answer from step 1 with that from step 2.

Not only will this allow you to calculate a realistic budget, but it will also help prioritise work and demonstrate the importance of the video to stakeholders.

How Do I Find the Right Corporate Video Company for Me?

Here are some of my top tips for filtering down production companies, as well as building strong working relationships with them:

  • Study their portfolios and reviews to see if they have experience making similar videos and if they have worked well with some reputable organisations.
  • Collate a few examples to help convey the video you have in mind.
  • If you want to meet them in person, search only for ones in your area. For example, ‘Corporate video company London.’
  • Brief them thoroughly on your key messages and brand ethos.
  • On first contact, if they are already offering you a quote based on basic features/length, know that they are looking for a quick sale rather than a true collaboration to achieve real business results.
  • Talk to the creative director as well as the salespeople to build a compelling script.
  • Trust what your instinct tells you when dealing with the team. Are they enthusiastic, responsive, grasping your message, etc.?
  • Be open to their professional opinion.
  • Be realistic with your schedule and budget.

If you would like a more extensive overview on finding the perfect video company , have a read of this recent article.

The art style for your video should be chosen logically, i.e. to match the video’s purpose, your calculated budget, the ethos of your brand and one that resonates with your audience , rather than based on a feeling, i.e. guesswork.

Beware of agencies trying to force more expensive and complex art styles on you unnecessarily. Despite what they might say, the artwork’s main function is to convey your message as clearly as possible.

Although expensive art styles can often equate to better business results when it comes to brand videos, for the most part this is not the case. In fact, high production value can often have negative results:

  • It will make it more expensive and time-consuming to test and change the video once complete, reducing your ROI.
  • It can distract from the key points in the video.
  • The deadline could be delayed due to longer production time.

To conclude : a good company should present you with the art styles most likely to make your video succeed. And be able to back their choices up with hard data and evidence, like we do here at Spiel .

Generally speaking, whiteboard animation is the cheapest art style and 3D animation is the most expensive.

If you are making a corporate explainer video, whiteboard animation might suit your needs better as it is proven to hold an audience’s attention when portraying complex messages. If you are making a highly-visible corporate brand video, a more expensive style like 3D or motion graphics will usually work better as it will portray professionalism and impress.

You can learn more about the whiteboard animation style in this guide.

It is especially important that you are aware of the sales funnel when planning your video marketing strategy. This is the journey a prospect has to take to become your customer, often illustrated as having 4 main stages (shown below).

In order to maximise your marketing return on investment, you must consider how your corporate videos leverage each stage so as much people as possible reach the bottom (and buy).

Sales Funnel

A highly useful strategy to help you optimise your video content for your sales funnel is Google’s ‘Hero, Hub, Hygiene’ framework. In this post, I will give you a quick breakdown of how it works in relation to your corporate marketing videos, but, if you would like a more comprehensive understanding, you can follow this link .

Note: I will include examples for each of the three ‘H’ content types at the end of this article.

Hero (Attraction)

Hero videos are infrequent, high-impact and emotional brand promotions. The goal of them is to introduce your business to a large new audience or break it into a new segment.

They sit at the top of the sales funnel because the attraction stage is all about making your business known to new prospects and encouraging them to take a closer look. For that reason, they generally require the biggest individual investment of any video type.

Generally speaking, in order to achieves these aims, they:

  • Are often built around an important event, product launch or serendipitous viral opportunity.
  • Highlight what makes your business stand out with compelling storytelling.
  • Are either one or a combination of visually stunning, shocking or hilarious in order to grab your audience’s attention and stay with them.

Given this, corporate brand videos are the best option to for your Hero content.

Hub (Capture)

Hub videos are regular, cohesive pieces of content that keep your audience engaged by offering fresh perspectives on their passion points. The goal of these videos is to build brand awareness, trust and boost engagement and subscriptions for the new visitors brought in by your awareness content.

They are perfect for the capture stage of your sales funnel because they present you as an industry thought leader by competently answering any questions or objections people might initially have about your product or service. Even though they should ideally be released weekly, if you make them to a simple, easy to replicate formula, they don’t have to be a burden on your expenses.

When it comes to your corporate video campaign, customer testimonials, explainers and interviews with industry experts are perfect.

Hygiene (Attraction and Nurture)

Hygiene videos (sometimes referred to as ‘Help’) make sure you are visible when people search questions and keywords relating to your industry online. By using Google to find these most searched terms, you can produce content that specifically addresses them. It is this rational approach that will get you onto the first page of Google.

These videos are both attraction and nurture because, on the one hand, they bring in new leads via online searches and, on the other, they curb any possible doubts that could remain with valuable and informative content.

For your campaign, product demonstrations and instructional clips are ideal for securing those conversions!

Now, here are 17 of the world’s best corporate video examples and what makes each of them so great:

Microsoft

Multinational technology company, and one of the biggest corporations in the world, Microsoft released this 65-second animated video for their hybrid cloud infrastructure in 2014.

With a concise script and straightforward 2D animation, it proves that even globally renowned organisations can still benefit from a simple down to earth corporate video.

The effortless animation, with its varying shades of blue, elicits feelings of growth in order to get Microsoft’s message across effectively. But it is the script and voiceover combination that I believe makes this a great video.

The script succinctly outlines a complex problem, describes how Microsoft’s solution can solve that problem and reveals the benefits it would have on your business. Not only is it successfully translating complicated messages into a language a wide audience can understand, but it also does it with a calming and friendly tone of voice, giving what could feel like a daunting product a friendly and approachable feel.

Never underestimate the importance of script and voiceover in your corporate video.

Early in 2018, Latvian furniture design and manufacturer RIPO made this elegant corporate video. In just 2 minutes, it shows, rather than tells, the viewer everything they do, their brand ethos and what makes them a stand-out corporation.

Their choice to use English text on-screen rather than a voiceover narrator instantly opens this small Latvian company up to the world. If they decided to use a Latvian narrator, on the other hand, think about how many people online would instantly turn away thinking they are only offering a localised service.

As well as this, they cleverly combine sleek, minimal imagery with a tasteful electronic track that builds throughout the video, really hammering home the message that they are all about Scandinavian design and efficiency.

Coca-Cola

In 2011, Coca-Cola created a 2-part content strategy video entitled ‘Content 2020’. Its combined length is 17 minutes and it was Coca-Cola’s strategic vision for the company’s future.

Formed of 9 chapters, it discusses, to name a few, their transition from creative to content excellence, their dedication to helping people and making their lives better and their enormous influence on popular culture.

Considering the fact that this is a corporate video created more so for their internal teams than for public viewing, it is an amazing fact that, at this moment, part 1 has almost 700,000 views on YouTube! A real testament to Coca Cola’s influence on marketing.

People look to them as a standard-bearer and rightly so given their continued worldwide impact and customer reach.

The art style of this video is also worth mentioning.

It uses whiteboard animation, an art style in which the viewer witnesses the story take shape by showing the artist’s hands physically drawing it. As mentioned already, if you need to explain something complex, this method is scientifically proven to be one of the most effective ways of engaging the audience.

Practicus

Project management and consultancy company Practicus created this 73-second animated video in 2016. It is entitled ‘Another Way’ and is a great example of a corporate Hub video that could sit perfectly on their landing page.

Its sleek, simple and informative style compliments the brand’s collaborative message and gives the viewer a sense that Practicus is a straightforward, effortless and trustworthy company to work with.

This corporate video is labelled an ‘explainer’ because it does what it says on the tin: it explains what Practicus do and how they do it.

Besides the pure aesthetics of the animation, I really like how it matches the voiceover with abstract visual metaphors. For instance, when it says, ‘…help your business overcome any obstacle’, we witness a ball rotating in a maze until it finds its way out – a useful tool for solidifying points in the mind of the viewer.

Once you have a great script, think up clever ways of metaphorically representing its most important points and messages with animation.

Men’s Health

Men’s lifestyle website Men’s Health released this attention-grabbing video back in 2014. With a title like ‘How a Bean Becomes a Fart’, the 63-second clip appealed to the child in us all and, for that reason, was certainly hard to ignore.

As the title suggests, it is an in-depth and surprisingly scientific breakdown of how our bodies process the substances that make up beans from chewing through to gas leaving ‘the backdoor.’ It is a great example of a corporate Hygiene video not aimed at advertising anything in particular but capturing curious people’s attention.

I like how the simple, flowing animation in this clip brilliantly portrays food moving through the body without offending the senses. Similar to the Practicus video, it achieves this by substituting more literal depictions with clever visual metaphors and adds to the overall playfulness of the clip.

Its power, however, lies mostly in the subject matter, which manages to be equal parts humorous, striking and, most importantly, relevant. Grabbing the audience’s attention and making them laugh is a powerful way of attracting them to your website to see what other entertainment value or information could be found there.

So, if the subject allows, think of similar ways to grab the viewers’ attention through surprise and humour. But always keep it relevant.

Japanese multinational motor company Honda created this high-impact corporate video for Honda India.

For a pure brand advertisement that doesn’t attempt to explain anything to the viewer, it is quite long at almost 4 minutes. However, that hasn’t had much of an effect on its popularity with over 50 million views!

Honda created an original track for this video, which, when sung over the various live-action scenarios, generates a lot of emotion and sentimentality around their brand. Ultimately, this clip achieves everything a great brand advertisement should by being memorable and showing the audience how Honda helps people every day.

Watermark

Photo protection and branding app Watermark created this 1-minute corporate explainer video in 2016. Portraying a variety of characters with very different lives, the clip skilfully conveys the message that no matter what your individual need for online photo protection is, Watermark is the best solution available.

This is an excellent example of a simple 2D video made to increase brand awareness and build trust with customers by empathising with them and their goals – important when people are trusting you with their content protection.

Another thing I like about the video is its character design. A great job was done depicting the wide range of customers that use Watermark. Sometimes businesses can have a universal audience and it takes clever storytelling to portray it in a concise manner.

If your company requires a lot of trust from customers, get to know them as best you can and empathise with them within the story of your corporate video.

To celebrate Father’s Day, iconic American multinational automaker Ford released this 54-second, narrative-driven corporate brand video.

Done in a pop art style reminiscent of Roy Lichtenstein, it tells the story of a woman dressed as a princess for a children’s party get into a road traffic accent. Crying, with amused passers-by beeping at her, she calls her dad who races to the rescue in his Ford.

This corporate brand video is a huge departure from Ford’s usual image. They understand that animation and storytelling are powerful tools for steering businesses in a new direction when change is needed.

The off the cuff delivery of the voiceover combined with traffic and engine sound effects really makes the video feel real. And using a specific day of celebration gives Ford a reason to remind people that they are still as dependable as ever.

If there is a specific time of year that your business tends to hit a lull, pick a holiday or day of celebration that lies within that time and build your corporate video around it.

House Network

Our video marketing agency , Spiel, created this 73-second corporate explainer video for online real estate agent House Network. The clip uses storytelling and visual techniques to explain just how easy it is to sell a house on their site.

By starting from the perspective of a 6-year-old child using the internet, the video instantly diffuses the complicated associations people have with the process of selling a house. Then, when the attention is transferred to the parents, the viewers’ automatic assumption is, ‘Well, if a child can do, it must really save a ton of hassle!’

The clever storytelling is appropriately combined with simple, childlike 2D animation and light and friendly music, to really reinforce its the message and give an all-encompassing theme to the video.

By including specific benefits from using House Network in the narrative, such as Mum and Dad saving thousands of pounds and booking a holiday or Tommy getting a new iPad, really personalises the video and gets the viewer imagining what they would do with the extra cash.

Building strong positive associations with your brand is always a sure way to boost your conversions. And if your product or service is in an industry usually deemed complicated, use storytelling and animation to depict its ease of use.

“Building strong positive associations with your brand is always a sure way to boost your conversions.”

Dissolve

Stock footage and photo licensing company Dissolve created this brilliant video ironically titled ‘This is a Generic Brand Video’. It uses their own live-action stock footage to hilariously parody all pretentious advertisements everywhere.

It even won a Shorty Award for best use of social media in business to business marketing strategies and campaigns.

Making the viewer laugh is always a good tactic, so long as it’s relevant and actually funny.

This clip works so well because the script is written extremely well, it rings very true coming from the voice of the narrator and, while it calls itself ‘generic’, it is actually relevant to the business. So, hone your script, and hone it again, before moving on to production.

American Express

In 2016, American multinational financial services corporation American Express released this corporate video entitled ‘Imagine What You Could Do’. The 45-second brand clip is designed to attract a more diverse workforce by changing perceptions about what it is they actually are: ‘more like a hybrid than a financial services company.’

The slick design of this animation is completely in-line with American Express’s brand aesthetic. The various shades of blue and white of their logo plus the colour of their gold card are strictly adhered to, building a strong and intuitive association between the video’s message and the brand in the mind of the viewer.

The fast pace of this video alongside an inspiring and upbeat track and voiceover portray an exciting and rewarding environment to work in. As opposed to what is generally imagined to be the case in the corporate financial sector.

If your business is breaking the mould in an industry traditionally perceived as uptight and formal, use the tools demonstrated here by American Express to build energy and excitement around it and change people’s minds.

In order to reinforce the association with your business, stick to your brand colours and aesthetic when working out the art style.

London & Country

In 2015, the UK’s largest fee-free mortgage broker & adviser London & Country contacted Spiel to create a corporate video for their critical illness life insurance advice service.

The video uses real-world facts and compelling narrative to build a case for why it is vitally important that everyone gets critical illness insurance. The argument is so strong that in the end there is no denying that they are providing a truly worthwhile service.

The power of this video lies in its seemingly crazy, attention-grabbing opening statistic, that 75% of households have motor insurance, 73% have contents insurance and only 11% have critical illness insurance! Considering the percentage of us that will be diagnosed with a critical illness in our lifetimes, this is difficult to ignore and makes people want to stay for the rest of the video

If your business can be proven to provide a valuable and much-needed service through hard data and facts, gather them, select the most potent and put them up front and centre in your corporate video.

Slack

In late 2015, cloud-based team collaboration tools and services company Slack released this eye-catching 1-minute clip. It is a great example of a corporate Hero video made to show off their brand to a wide audience.

With all the quality of a Disney production, this video uses CGI to portray a working office full of busy animals (presumably because they can’t speak) getting lots done by communicating through the office Slack system alone.

The calibre of the video speaks for itself. The viewer could be forgiven for thinking they are watching a trailer for a big budget feature film. So, it’s no wonder it currently has 16 million views on Youtube!

By showing each character’s Slack messages floating above or next to them, the video can portray with great excitement how a single message (spark of inspiration) can start a chain of events and get things done much more efficiently than emails or meetings.

There is no other style of video more worth splashing out on than your main corporate brand video.

John Deere

John Deere, American manufacturers of agricultural, construction and forestry machinery, created this 3-minute video celebrating their rich and proud history.

After watching the clip, it is impossible to think anything about them other than that they are a highly trusted industry leader who have had an enormous impact on the history of their fields.

In the short time it takes to watch this clip, we learn about the entire history and ethos of the corporation, the range of products they sell and why these products are only going to become more essential in the coming decades.

If you have a strong and proud history, be sure to show it in your corporate video. It is one of the most powerful ways of building brand trust there is.

Parker Hannifin Corporation

American specialists in motion and control technologies Parker Hannifin released this dramatic corporate video for their new motions system group.

The clip uses a combination of live action, 3D and motion graphics to show how, for the first time, they have brought together their hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical motion technologies to provide a vital service across a diverse array of industries.

With a theatrical score and an onslaught of stimulating visuals, including concepts for flying vehicles of the future, this video lets the viewer know that Parker Hannifin are at the very cutting edge of technology. Every aspect, from the movie trailer-like voiceover to the space rocket graphics, conveys a company at the pinnacle of their industry.

If, on the off chance, your company happens to deal with exciting new industries like space , take a page from the blockbuster movie trailer book and build a sense of awe and wonder around your brand.

“If, on the off chance, your company happens to deal with exciting new industries like  space , take a page from the blockbuster movie trailer book and build a sense of awe and wonder around your brand.”

Spotify

Music streaming service, and household name, Spotify created this brilliant corporate Hero video back in 2011 when they were a little-known company.

The 64-second animation doesn’t need voiceover to tell us what they’re all about. With a hypnotic drum beat/lively jazz track from movie score composer Tobias Norberg , as well as some endearing character design, it gives the viewer no choice but to sit up and take notice.

This video was so effective because it builds a lot of anticipation and excitement around the company. It conveys an easy to get and use service that abounds in fun, excitement and possibilities.

Basically, it does what all great brand videos should do: embody the company ethos.

Remember, when it comes to your corporate brand video, strong visuals and sound design can say a lot more than words.

Barking Mad

This is a good example of a corporate explainer video created by the team here at Spiel for Barking Mad, ‘the UK’s most trusted dog sitting service.’

The 1-minute video really speaks to their dog-owning customer base with a lovable, tail wagging canine, Max, doing everything dogs do, as well as some amusing things they don’t (wearing sunglasses and sipping a cocktail on a beach?)

The script has a strong narrative that succinctly explains why they are the best dog sitting service available.

When it comes to corporate explainer videos, the script is very important. A good scriptwriter will be able to take your brand and whatever it is you’re explaining and translate it into an engaging narrative.

Now that we’ve answered a few basic questions, let’s dig deeper into why videos are so powerful.

What Makes Video Presentations so Effective?

Why do they increase the impact of your message?

Well, it’s simple, really – people are visual creatures. This means we take in more information by watching than by reading. Remember the saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words”? Besides that, here are 4 other reasons video is so effective:

1. Conveys emotions better

No other communication channel conveys emotions better than video. That’s because video caters to the brain’s visual and auditory systems, helping the viewer pick up on cues like body language, facial expressions, imagery, and music.

2. Cements information better

According to research , people remember 10% of what they hear and 20% of what they read. However, they remember a staggering 80% of what they experienced. In short, visuals are easier to remember than text or audio because they help your audience “experience” your message. It makes video an essential part of creating presentations your audience will remember for a long time.

3. Makes it easier to digest information

Especially when explaining complicated concepts, video is a great way to present information in an easy-to-understand way. Not only is the format easy to take in, but it also makes breaking down concepts easier.

4. Builds relationships fast

I’m sure you know the marketing mantra: people buy from people they know, like, and trust. Nothing beats video in making prospects or your audience know, like, and trust you…   fast. Video is an instant relationship builder. It’s the next best thing to live face-to-face communication.

A video is a great tool that has made it easier to communicate thoughts and ideas with people – not just in a room, but even across the globe.

6 Types of Video Presentations You Need to Know

5. Employee Training and Onboarding

Video presentations are great for conducting employee training and onboarding. One of the main reasons for this is that video helps reduce the resources spent on these 2 important aspects of employee relationship management.

6. Informational Videos

As the name suggests, the informational/how-to type of presentation serves to pass on important information. Why video in this case? Because it’s more engaging and can pack a lot of information in a short clip.

How to create killer Video Presentations – 4 Tips

Now you know why video presentations are important and which scenarios to use them in. Now to the fun part – tips on creating killer video presentations. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Tip #1 - Know your Audience

how to create a killer video presentations - know your audience

The most important aspect of creating a stellar presentation is to know and understand your audience. Even if you use the best video presentation maker , if you don’t target a specific, clearly defined audience, your presentation will flop. Understanding your audience will help you:

A. Communicate effectively

Effective communication involves knowing the language and examples that resonate with your audience.

B. Choose the right visuals

Certain visuals are more impactful when used on a particular audience. Study those that your audience will easily understand and relate to.

C. Connect on an emotional level

No matter the type of presentation, it’s crucial to connect with your audience on an emotional level. And to do that, you need to understand the emotional triggers to push in your video presentation.

Invest in adequate audience research. While it may be time-consuming (and a bit costly), it will pay off in the end.

Idea #2 - Brainstorm video content ideas

Create Killer Video Presentations - Brainstorm Video Content Ideas

Now that you have gathered enough audience data, it’s time to brainstorm some content ideas. Whether you’re creating your talk solo or as a team, 3 crucial questions will lay the foundation of your brainstorming session:

1. What do you want the video to achieve? 2. Which emotions do you want the video to evoke? 3. What will visual elements help your video achieve its goal?

The answers to these questions will help guide your ideas. They are key to creating a killer video that your audience will love.

Tip #3 - Craft engaging scripts

Craft Engaging Scripts

Audience research? Check.

Great idea? Check.

Now we get to another interesting stage of creating great video presentations  – crafting an engaging script. Whether it’s a live presentation, a webinar, or even a product review, you’ll need a great script to ensure you keep your audience engaged.

Even if you love creating impromptu videos, having a script for your video presentations is important. And no, you need not be Quentin Tarantino to produce a great video script (although it won’t hurt to learn how to become a good copywriter). Here are 3 reasons a good video script is a must:

1) Helps structure your video

To ensure your video has a smooth and progressive flow, you’ll need a good script.

2) Eliminates “dead spots”

Dead spots, or moments of inactivity, are a great turn-off in a video. They reek of unprofessionalism and can lead to your audience disengaging. The best way to eliminate dead spots is to craft a solid video script .

3) Keeps you on track

It’s very easy to get sidetracked when creating a video . However, with a script, you minimize the instances of going off-topic.

Creating scripts for your videos is a best practice that shouldn’t be overlooked. If anything, invest more in your script than the visuals as a good script can save a video with poor visuals.

Pro-tip: Once you’re confident about your script, it is time to make things even more clear. A  storyboard will allow you to break down your video visually, scene by scene, describing what is happening in it.

Tip #4 - Invest in the Right Tools

video presentations right tools - InVideo

With video, one thing you should never skimp on is the tools you use, particularly your video editing software. While there is a gazillion free video editing software on the market, it’s highly recommended that you use a professional video editor . And that means going the paid route.

Why should you spend on a video editor when there are countless free options available? Here’s why:

A. Get more (professional) features

Creating professional-looking videos requires a lot of resources and features. Most free video editors lack the features that will enable you to create professional videos.

B. Avoid branding and ads

With video editing software, free is never free. That’s because you pay through being forced to include the video editors brand in your work. In other words, you pay by advertising for them. Besides branding, some free video editors may subject you to irritating in-app ads.

If there’s one thing that’s inevitable when it comes to software, it’s that one time or another you’ll encounter glitches. This is where paid video editors have a great advantage over their free counterparts – you’ll have access to customer support.

From hardware (like cameras) to software (like video editing software), the tools you use will determine the quality of your videos. Invest in professional tools, and your presentations will sweep your audience off their feet because they’ll be more polished.

Pro tip: If you don't have the time or bandwidth to find your way around an editing tool, simply sign up to InVideo for business and get presentations created using tailor-made templates and on-demand editing services. Sign up for a free demo here .

Tip #5 - Adopt Video Presentation Best Practices

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel when creating presentations . Most winning video presentations are based on common fundamental principles that work. Here are some you need to know:

1) Create impactful intros (and outros)

Your intro is the most important part of your presentation as it sets the tone for the rest of the talk. If you can’t engage your audience with your intro, you probably won’t get another chance to engage them.

2) Keep it short, sharp, and sweet

No matter how engaging your video is, always remember it’s not a movie. The point is to keep your audience engaged enough to pass on your information, no more no less.

3) Be professional

Don’t throw out your professional etiquette just because you’re on (or using) video. Maintain professionalism in your video presentations by, for example, using clean language and maintaining a good posture.

4) Use quality sound

Sound plays an integral part in presentations. Whether it’s music or speech, make sure it’s crisp, clear, and audible.

By following these (and other) video presentation best practices, success is inevitable. Remember, the presentation is not about you; it’s about your audience. So, ensure that your presentations provide a good user experience for your audience.

video presentation templates in InVideo

Templates are lifesavers. They help you create a decent presentation in a snap, even if you are a newbie.

Here are 3 simple questions to help you determine if a template is good:

1) Is it editable? – Are you able to change things like playback speed, effects, or text, so you produce something you like? Stay away from rigid templates that don’t give you the freedom to create with ease.

2) Is it customizable? – Can you design brand-specific clips using your company’s colors, fonts, and styling? Good templates give you wiggle room to include your brand’s specific needs.

3) Is it campaign-specific? – Different videos fit different scenarios. Ideally, you want templates tailored to your current campaign.  That way, you have less tweaking to do because the templates are close to what you want.

According to studies by Physiology Org humor leads to learning because of it:

- Attracts and sustains attention. - Relieves tension and produces a relaxed atmosphere. - Enhances participation. - Increases retention and motivation. - Bonds the student and the teacher.

However, to reap all these benefits, the humor must be appropriate and on-topic. So spice up your presentation with a joke or two. The result? Your audience will laugh and learn.

Idea #2 - Use Relevant Examples

Effective presenters use timely, powerful illustrations.

The word illustration comes from the Latin term ‘illustration,’ which means illumination. So practical examples are like windows of your presentation. They let light in. They help people see or understand the material better.

Here are 5 questions to ask about your illustrations:

1. Are they relevant to the topic? 2. Are they suited to the audience? 3. Are they suited to the time limit? 4. Are they enlightening? 5. Are they well told?

Grab compelling examples from books, movies, TV shows, history, children, current events, and captivating real-life incidents. Use good illustrations ram your points home.

Idea #3 - Wield Questions like a Ninja

Questions are an integral part of learning.

Sharp questions aid learning. Plus, they keep listeners highly engaged.

Ask questions:

- At the beginning of your presentation to draw your audience in. - In the middle of the presentation to revive waning audience interest. - At the end of the talk, so the audience reflects on the material.

Also, allow the audience to ask questions. When your audience asks questions, they switch from passive spectators to active participants.

Idea #4 - Be Minimal

Have you ever sat through a presentation and felt:

- Dazed? - Confused? - Strained?

More than likely, the reason is the presenter drowned you in a blaze of inessential stuff. There was too much going on you couldn’t cope with.

Minimalism is removing all unnecessary material, leaving only the bare minimum needed to put your points across. It means using just enough text, visuals, scenes, or slides to make the point and no more. A minimal presentation is clean and uncluttered.

Simple yet intriguing. Plain but profound. Basic but punchy.

Most importantly, it makes learning easy and enjoyable.

Idea #5 - Connect emotionally with a story

Stories are speakers’ most powerful weapons. That’s because stories play a dual purpose –

- Engage intellectually - Connect Emotionally

And an emotional connection is key to bringing the house down with your presentation. Why?

An emotional connection:

- Endears you to your audience - Makes your presentation memorable - Inspires your audience to take action

By using a relevant story in your video presentation, you’ll ensure that your audience walks the entire journey with you from intro to outro.

6 PowerPoint Presentation tips to wow your audience

powerpoint presentation tips

No business video guide is complete without PowerPoint, the staple software for business presentations.

Here are 6 golden rules to help you nail your next PowerPoint presentation and leave your audience crying for more:

1. Keep Things Simple

Legendary artist Leonardo da Vinci once said something profound:

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".

With the plethora of apps and templates at your disposal, you will be tempted to complicate things. Don’t. Keep things simple.

Simple design. Simple colors. Simple story.

People get swamped and confused by complicated stuff but easily absorb and appreciate straightforward material.

2. Good visual contrast

What use is your blockbuster presentation if the audience can’t see it?

You want people to enjoy your presentation, not endure it. If you use dark fonts on dark backgrounds or light fonts on light backgrounds, you’ll strain your audience’s eyes. They’ll struggle to see your lovely slides.

Classic black-on-white color contrast does just fine. You can use colors like red, blue, or yellow for headings and images. If you don’t like black and white, you can use other colors you prefer as long as the contrast of your combination is bold and strong.

3. Use a few words and animations

It’s easy to go overboard with fancy animations and a gushing stream of words. Only use as many words as it takes to get your point across and no more.

Too many words cause the audience to read rather than listen. Remember, your slides are there to compliment your talk, not substitute it. Also, a lot of words will fill up many slides that wear your audience down.

Ruthlessly cut out senseless animations that don’t add value to your talk.

4. Use excellent images

Images are to a presentation, what water is to fish. Without them, your presentation becomes bland. It lacks the needed fizz to keep your audience hooked. But only include relevant images.

Not only that. Above all, make sure all pictures are of high quality. Amateur-looking clip art causes the audience not to take you seriously.

5. Smooth and fast transitions

While PowerPoint transitions can make your presentation engaging, don’t overdo them, especially the advanced ones. Not only do they quickly drain power on weaker machines, but they also distract the audience. Stick to simpler and faster transitions like wipe or slide.

6. Avoid overloading your slides

In presentations, less is more.

Having a lot going on your screen confuses and overwhelms listeners.

Cramming too much info into your slides is a big no-no. Clutter is your enemy. Strip your slides down to essential words and images. Your audience will love you for it and leave you with many takeaways.

What is a corporate video?

10 of the best corporate video examples.

  • Urban Farmers
  • Dubai Association Centre
  • Red Bull Racing
  • General Electric

Without any further ado, let’s press play on some of the most effective corporate videos in recent memory and explore the various reasons why these videos made us sit up and take note.

1. Urban Farmers

Two key ingredients to a killer company video are pace and production values. Urban Farmers’ explainer video has both in abundance. With the world’s population predicted to reach 9 million people by 2050, Urban Farmers’ mission is to feed the growing populous in a more efficient and eco-friendly manner.

Putting the ‘ability into sustainability’ their premise is to nurture hyper-local produce and sustainable fish stocks grown where we eat them – on urban rooftops. A wacky idea sometimes needs a zany video to capture the zeitgeist. Urban Farmers went all in with this vibrant video, incorporating a faux-Western soundtrack and drawling voiceover to poke fun at our obsession for ‘fair-trade-inated’ organic food that clocks up thousands of air miles just to reach our plates.

2. Dubai Association Centre

Corporate videos can also be a great tool for presenting heavy subject matter in a light and breezy way. When the Dubai Association Centre (DAC) set out to explain the bureaucratic machinations of its line of business, they astutely recognised that the subject matter they were promoting could come across drier than the Dubai desert if it wasn’t handled with care.

As the gateway to the world’s fastest growing economies Dubai is an international hub that links Africa, Asia and the Middle East to the rest of the world. DAC is an amalgamation of the Dubai Chamber, Dubai Tourism and Dubai World Trade Centre tasked with promoting the formation of global professional associations and trade bodies in the Emirate of Dubai.

3. Red Bull Racing

presentation company vdo

A great way to encourage customer buy-in is to give them exclusive access to the inner sanctums of your business. Red Bull Racing did just that with this fascinating walking tour of their Milton Keynes race factory. Presented by their principal, Christian Horner, this video gives you a rare, behind-the-scenes look at what makes a Formula One team tick.

Horner takes us on a magical mystery tour with pit stops at F1 design legend Adrian Newey’s two offices (the second being the executive toilet if his witty repartee is to be believed!); the team gym that’s frequented by the pit crews to get into peak condition; and the state-of-the-art machine shop, where all the race cars’ carbon fibre and composite parts are produced. There’s even a hint that a pair of Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship trophies might not be replicas after all.

This exclusive video gives a real sense of the ‘work hard, play hard’ environment that was clearly a major factor in the team’s four consecutive double world championship wins between 2010 and 2013.

Never ones to shy away from a promotional corporate video , Twitter have been bossing the corporate video genre for years. As you might expect from a marketing tech firm, they’ve got a real knack for selling their product in a fun and engaging way. This video, which promotes their Twitter Flight School service – a ‘dynamic learning experience to help you craft the best ways of integrating Twitter into your work’ – is typically on-point.

Remarkably, given it’s in Twitter’s best interests to upgrade its customers knowledge base, this fast-paced explainer animation makes you want to find out more. Which is the highest compliment we can pay it. You likely already know about Twitter, have the app and use it successfully for business. And yet, the social media gurus manage to be very persuasive in their assertion that there’s far more you could be achieving with their platform with a bit of tuition.

5. Practicus

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. When it comes to a great corporate video, keeping it simple can often be the most effective means of getting your point across. Practicus, a recruitment agency that specialises in placing interim managers, executives and other senior personnel, could be on a hiding to nothing if they tried to explain their concept of an ‘outcome delivery partner’ in words alone.

What they did instead was produce a subtle, yet compelling explainer video to do the talking for them. Practicus’ branding, embodied by their logo, is intrinsically square. Presumably to represent the absolutes they can offer through their recruitment practices. However, squares aren’t friendly, they’re spiky. So, thinking well and truly outside the box (see what we did there?!), the producers of this video used a series of simple circles, backed up by the brand’s white, red and black brand colours, to ensure Practicus’ messaging didn’t come across as ‘square’ too.

6. Landstar

Symbolism can be a great ally when explaining your service business in a corporate video. Used cleverly, a subtle nod to your line of work can work brilliantly in video format. Global logistics firm, Landstar, got creative with this particular explainer video to demonstrate how their freight solutions move goods all over the world via air, land and sea.

When setting out to showcase their Landstar Advantage business model, Landstar’s video producers developed an animated explainer video to tell their story. Creating a 3D modelled landscape reminiscent of the classic computer game SimCity, and clearly drawing inspiration from the circular flourish on Landstar’s logo, the video zips from one circular landmass to another in their depiction of everyday haulage activities.

If we could give you one piece of advice, it would be to have fun with your corporate videos. If you’ve had fun creating your masterpiece that can often shine through in your video content. This is a really endearing approach that can often excuse a lower budget production.

Inbound marketing experts, HubSpot are masters of using video to convey often quite technical theories in an accessible, easy to understand format. When it came to selling themselves and their own working environment to attract new talent, it can hardly come as a surprise that they nailed the brief. That is if the brief was to demonstrate how creative, relaxed but professional their company culture is.

Corporate videos are an excellent vehicle for conveying reams of information in a short space of time. Take scientific innovators, DuPont, as an example of how to hammer home your mission statement in a short, compelling video.

In their efforts to showcase their corporate story and values, global conglomerate DuPont turned to the tried and tested route of an animated explainer video (can you see a theme emerging here?!) to explain their global interests and enterprises – as wide-ranging as agricultural products, to high performance materials.

If your business covers a diverse range of specialisms and services, it can sometimes be difficult to encapsulate all that you do into words. A corporate explainer video can help you to package your offer into a digestible format, one that can resonate with your audience on a much more immediate basis.

9. General Electric

When done well, words and video used in unison can create an insightful fusion of information. You don’t always need a voiceover to get your message across. Rather, some great visuals overlaid with impactful statements can be just as effective. American multinational, General Electric, used this technique to great effect with their ManuFACTS video.

More akin to the traditional brand awareness style campaign, this corporate video employs a highly stylised animation to demonstrate how GE is using 3D Printing and a new smart factory concept to revolutionise large-scale manufacturing. Combined with short, simple written statements and a stirring soundtrack, this video is clear, concise and effective.

Want to see more examples from this industry? You can always browse our manufacturing video production page!

Altering the viewer’s perspective can often be a useful tool for introducing new concepts. The natural instinct is to sell a product or service directly from your business’ perspective. Whilst you know the benefits of choosing your brand better than anyone, sometimes it can be more disarming to hear from an alternative point of view to advocate what’s on offer.

In their Living a Richer Life video, global homestay moguls, Airbnb, turn the spotlight onto the hosts that open up their homes to visiting travellers for them to share their experiences. We learn about their motivations for becoming a host and how this impacts their daily lives for the better. This video connects on a human level. You want to meet these people and explore their homes and cities, which is exactly the reaction Airbnb set out to provoke.

These compelling corporate videos demonstrate distinctive techniques for capturing the audience’s attention. Whether it’s through sense of humour, clever pacing or a devastatingly simple idea, these companies have managed to harness the power of video to get their point across.

There is much you can take from their innovative approaches. You might even choose to take a mixture of their ingredients for your own corporate video production . And who knows, we may well be featuring your corporate video example next time!

Video Presentations: A Guide for Engaging Content

A skilled presenter has to master different techniques; therefore, we will examine the potential for video presentations. Join us to discover what video presentations are, the reasons why you should use them amongst your presentation tools, and exciting tips on how to drive engagement from them.

  • How to create a video presentation

Do you need special software to create video presentations?

Closing thoughts.

Presentations are a crucial part of business and academic environments. Thousands of presentations are delivered each day in different environments; still, many are doomed to fail. Although we can blame this on a lack of proper presentation skills , reality tells us there’s a change in how people prefer to see the content.

As a general rule, consider 10 minutes the Goldilocks Zone for traditional presentations in what comes to audience engagement . Inspirational presentations like the ones we see on TEDx don’t follow this rule, as the objective here is to share a compelling story as detailed as possible so the audience can relate. In some cases, academic presentations of the thesis defense style remain loyal to a specific format. Still, trends are also changing, and video presentations have much to offer in terms of exposing complex concepts more plainly.

A video presentation can be represented in multiple formats: as a compendium of animated slides in video format, video files and audio sources packed on a single video file, a video recording made in interview format, a video documentary, etc. Although this definition may sound redundant, the concept behind a video presentation is that they don’t require a presenter to change between slides or windows to browse different assets . Hence, the importance to create a story behind the video presentation, so the various elements don’t feel segregated without logic.

We can say people use the video format to convey information in courses, job training, edutainment, conferences, and any kind of message-sharing purpose that requires connecting with the audience for engagement.

Before dwelling on the specifics of building a video presentation, here we share some video presentation stats that speak about the importance of video presentations these days from a marketing perspective.

  • Online search continues to be the most common way (45%) for users to find instructional and informational video content. ( source )
  • The most commonly-created types of videos are explainer videos (72%) , presentation videos (49%), testimonial videos (48%), sales videos (42%), and video ads (42%). ( source )
  • 57% of consumers said that product videos make them more confident in a purchase and less likely to return an item ( source )
  • Millennials’ attention span can be measured as little as 12 seconds ( source )
  • A minute of video is worth 1.8 million words in terms of information retention ( source )

As you can see, the effort of building a video presentation is well-paid in terms of consumption and content information retention from the audience.

Depending on the requirements of the presentation itself, we can classify video presentations as follows:

In-Company Video Presentations

These video presentations belong to the business and corporate world, but their purpose is to distribute information among coworkers or to coach the personnel for a specific requirement. In-company video presentations are used in workspace training, as part of internal recruitment processes, or other kinds of internal presentations.

In-company video presentations usually carry the company branding; they have restricted access for people outside the organization, so their distribution methods happen in meeting rooms dedicated to these purposes.

Business Video Presentations

Business video presentations are used for a variety of business purposes: business pitches, workspace training, advertisement, product releases, recruitment, and more. Business video presentations also include the ones dedicated to  B2B or B2C relationships.

Like In-Company Video Presentations, they carry branding to identify the video presentation’s author quickly. They are shared through official mediums for the company (like a brand’s social media channels and website), during corporate meetings with investors or potential business partners, and through 3rd. party channels.

Example of Product Launch Video Presentation by Xiaomi

Examples of these kinds of videos are product launch sessions, much like what tech giants like Xiaomi do.

Another kind of business video presentation is the explainer video. Explainer videos can be defined as short online marketing videos that are used to explain the company’s product or service. Explainer videos are commonly used for sales, marketing, and training purposes. Here is a real example of a 1-minute video presentation introducing SlideModel.com.

Another application of business video presentations is when sponsorship deals are involved, as brands can present their value to influencers through short reels.

Resume Video Presentations

This is a relatively recent but incredible turn of resume presentations. In resume video presentations , the candidate offers a detailed introduction of their capabilities, skills, interests, and potential value to the employer in a visually engaging format.

Unlike traditional CV presentations, the video format gives little room for anxiety, answering most of the interviewer’s questions or even driving admiration for the effort and dedication to this job-hunting adventure.

We recommend the usage of resume presentation templates for this purpose, as they save tons of time in crafting a high-quality resume video presentation.

Educational Video Presentations

This category can be divided into three different sub-categories:

Academic Video Presentations

Intended for University-level presentations or post-Doctorate work, these presentations follow strict format guidelines. They are mainly designed to distribute data comprehensively, with proper documentation backup. Animations usually don’t take part in these video presentations.

Despite being commonly associated with business events, conferences also belong to the academic video presentations category, as the live sessions are recorded to spread the message about important research discoveries.

Teaching & Training Video Presentations

Teachers introduce the presentations to their students on various topics to understand abstract issues better. Chemistry, Physics, and Geography are typical examples of subjects that use video presentations. However, subjects like History and Philosophy can save countless hours of whiteboard sessions by using educational video presentations.

Webinars fall under this category, either being released to the public or in-company webinars, as they share common aspects in their structure. Do keep in mind that educational content recorded as video presentations is not the same as a webinar, as the latter requires the presence of a live audience, a moderator, and usually a Q&A session at the end of it. If we talk about educational content being recorded and released as a course platform, then we can say it is a workshop.

According to recent studies, visualizations through video presentations and video-based learning can enhance understanding. It is demonstrated that students who watched learning videos on Statistics, influenced engagement and motivation positively .

Student Video Presentations

Finally, students also make video presentations as requested by their teachers to present a lesson or project exhibition. These presentations vary as the students grow older, becoming less dependent on animated effects, setting the bases for future work or academic presentation formats.

Informal Video Presentations

If you remember seeing videos in situations like 50th birthday parties, baptisms, wedding anniversaries, etc., then you have already experienced informal video presentations.

These informal presentations are free from any format restriction. As the term implies, they are used for any kind of meetup, making it simpler to share a story rather than to tell a lengthy story.

Inspirational & Motivational Video Presentations

The final category belongs to the video presentations with a strong emotional component. They are built to connect, to empathize with the audience in specific situations or problems. Examples of this are TEDx , Evan Carmichael, or similar influencing platforms.

In general lines, motivational video presentations are recordings of live events shared with the purpose of getting the message to the biggest audience possible (internet consumers). Another possible format for these presentations is recorded interviews or testimonials intended to speak about a person’s contributions to society. An example of this, from an organization’s point of view, are the videos produced by the UK’s NHS to highlight and thank their medical personnel for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Inspirational video presentations share common aspects with motivational speeches. A list of requirements for these video presentations would be:

  • Have a clear purpose
  • Make it personal
  • Get the message tailored for the target audience
  • A strong conclusion

Compared with traditional presentation methods, such as presentation slides or speaking in front of an audience, video presentations can offer a series of advantages.

For starters, as you write the “ story ,” you are also rehearsing the points to be covered. In that way, anxiety or shyness won’t trigger you to forget about essential points or lose track of time. The length of the presentation can be predetermined, depending on the external requirements of the organization party, or how comprehensive or concise you need it to be.

In the case of people struggling with camera shyness , an animated video presentation with voiceover is the answer to deliver quality work. Since psychologists and doctors agree the common point on fear of public speaking is the delivery of the presentation itself, video presentations shall reduce work-induced anxiety to a great degree. Since psychologists and doctors agree the common point on fear of public speaking is the delivery of the presentation itself, video presentations shall reduce work-induced anxiety to a great degree. You can also convert images to video online using video editor platforms to easily create video from images and voiceover on video.

Video presentations can be persuasive thanks to the usage of graphics and audio. It is far easier to convey emotions through video presentations than to put them in the presentation design. Also, research by Dr. James McQuivey proved that a minute of video is worth 1.8 million words in terms of information retention.

Regarding engagement, the popularity that both TikTok and YouTube gained among the younger generations reflects the behavioral changes in content consumption . It has come to the point that even professionals use TikTok to demystify health hoaxes and help users worldwide. Therefore, using video format for presentations can help to boost your presentation performance, making it attractive for your audience and less effort-demanding.

The most significant factor in delivering a successful video presentation is keeping the audience engaged. To ensure this, make sure the presentation doesn’t feel robotic-like but that it conveys a personal message. Don’t get this point wrong if we talk strictly about business or academic scenarios; making video presentations to deliver your personal touch can become as simple as selecting the proper color combination to enforce your message . Other solutions come from watching your voice tone not to make it too monotonous.

Structure your presentation accordingly. In business or academic video presentations is a good idea to introduce a slide in the fashion of a table of contents . It is an extra touch that brings the audience closer to the topics due to be discussed.

Consider the audience’s perspective as a vital element in video presentations. Check relevant examples of the topic discussed on platforms such as YouTube or DailyMotion. Compare their approach to yours and assert if you would watch your presentation as a spectator or not. This simple test gives insights into which aspects you should work on.

Winning video presentations never miss the usage of CTAs. It’s a good method to direct the audience’s interest to a specific goal.

Video presentations can become an incredible tool for driving engagement, yet there is a problem that not so many presenters address: accessibility. Think about how many times a presenter ends a phrase like “over here,” assuming the audience is watching the item being shown. But what if members of the target audience have visual impairments?

Much like we consider the importance of adding Closed Captioning (CC) to our videos, accessibility in terms of the narrative is a must. On this behalf, we want to introduce an interesting research that led to the production of a tool named Slidecho . Using state-of-the-art technology like video scene detection, AI, and OCR, Slideshow follows these very steps:

  • Step 1: Extract slide frames
  • Step 2: Selecting slide elements
  • Step 3: Detecting described elements from the slide elements
  • Step 4: Aligning slides with the speech

Therefore, Slidecho uses an algorithmic methodology to extract the visual elements from the slides, converting them to an audio reading format whilst aligning it with the original speaker’s narration. Moreover, its interface instantiates new interactions that augment the plain video interface with synchronized slide information and audio notifications to alert users to undescribed elements.

This technological advance helps the audience better understand what is being presented, regardless of the context of the presentation. Imagine an award ceremony where many references apply to visual cues. People with visual impairments get half of the message, with luck, when presenters fall into colloquial language usage, not understanding the context or having to ask for clarification. If instead, the synced narration is available, we then talk about making presentations available for everyone. This is an accurate definition of enriching an event experience.

If we talk about attending to the needs of people with hearing impairments, we have to consider the social factor as a motivator in presentations. It is a common mistake to leave slides filled with text and voiceover narration in the background providing detailed information. A study made by Stanford University speaks about the value of having the presenter’s face available through these slides, as it delivers both social cues plus helps users through lip reading. The human factor also reduces distractions since the audience must check the presenter’s input on written slides.

Example of video instruction with lecture slides in the back - Effects on information retention, visual attention and affect.

Tip #1 – Be mindful of the presentation topic

It’s not the same to create a presentation for a business audience as an inspirational presentation. The category of the presentation shall determine items like

  • Background music
  • Color theme
  • Visual hierarchy
  • Videos to include

Tip #2 – Limit the number of words to include

The whole idea behind the video presentation is to make a dynamic presentation, not having to pause every 5 seconds to allow the spectator to read.

Instead, use words to transmit powerful messages, such as quotes relevant to the presented topic, key information, or CTAs. Use the 7×7 rule: no slide should have more than 7 lines of text, and no sentence should have more than 7 words.

Tip #3 – Voiceovers can become your best friends

The whole point behind a video presentation is not to create a boring one-person video speaking in front of the camera. Use voiceovers effectively to introduce charts, data feedback, etc., with your voice connecting the points of the entire presentation.

Be mindful of the tone. A monotonous or flat tone can divert attention and induce people to ignore your work. Your voice skills should articulate the importance of the point being discussed as well as your interest in it.

Tip #4 – The power of transitions

Adding suitable transitions and animations makes the presentation more engaging . However, this isn’t equal to adding countless effects. Less is more.

Ask a professional for guidance if you don’t have experience with animation effects. The transition can be part of the conversation, being subtle if the presentation is flowing between data sets or similar topics, or contrasting and powerful to deliver a persuasive message. You may also want to insert a transition when you’ve used a video cutter to remove an unwanted part to smooth out the video flow. Don’t abuse any of the two extremes, or the audience may find it uncomfortable.

Tip #5 – Make video presentations accessible

As we mentioned before, quite often presenters assume the audience can understand every part of a video presentation. Reality tells us to attend to the needs of people with visual and auditory impairments by making audio and video media accessible .

Subtitles or translator screen-over using sign language is a perfect opportunity to help people with auditory impairments feel part of the presentation, making the message available to them as well.

For people with visual impairments, be mindful about how you create the narrative for your presentation, in particular, avoiding visual cues like: “over here,” “this,” and “there” and gesticulating over an object or person, assuming everyone can get the same reference information. Instead, opt to be descriptive in your speech; software solutions can help a great deal, but you can also use native PowerPoint or Google Slides tools such as voiceovers .

5. Free Animated Business PowerPoint Template

This versatile free presentation template for PowerPoint makes the perfect tool for more than business presentations: it works perfectly for educational video presentations and even inspirational video presentations.

With 9 fully editable slides, you can build your video presentation by using a unique combination of graphic elements, animations, and transitions. The graphics elements on this template are oriented to highlight leadership concepts.

6. Free Animated Business Infographics PowerPoint Template

presentation company vdo

Use this free template to create powerful statements backed by data in your video presentations. With a broad selection of graphs, diagrams, and charts, this fully editable template can help presenters to discuss topics ranging from demographics, economy, marketing indicators, or other relevant research results in an easy-to-understand format.

Compatible with all versions of PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Keynote.

You also need to consider the output format of your video presentations. For maximum compatibility, you can use  MP4 or MOV. Other alternatives include:

  • MKV : The native format of most 4K videos due to being able to store multiple audio tracks. Ideal for presentations with different voiceover languages that presenters can pick from.
  • WMV : It’s a quality format for rendering videos to be shared via e-mail, although not compatible with some devices. Installing codecs is advised.
  • WebM : This format is one of the preferred choices for online video libraries or live streaming services, but it can present compatibility issues.

The answer to this question entirely depends on your aim for creating video presentations. For most presenters, PowerPoint and Google Slides will do a good job, allowing them to use features such as voiceovers, transitions, animations, and high-quality graphics.

If instead, you desire to make advanced effects, screen recordings, or toon-like animations with voiceovers, then you should check the following list of solutions:

  • Camtasia (Techsmith) : It is a professional video editing software, much lighter and easier to use than Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. You can create professional transition or animation effects, work with layers to add multiple sounds or video sources and create screen recordings.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro : The industry-leading software in video editing. This often intimidating software by Adobe has all the requirements for professional video editing, plus full integration with third-party plugins or other software from the Adobe suite to enhance the video result.
  • Sony Vegas Pro : It is considered a direct competitor to Adobe Premiere Pro, less demanding in hardware requirements, and somewhat more user-friendly.
  • Final Cut Pro : For Mac users, this is the option to consider if we talk about video editing. Powerful and tailored for the hardware the Mac device has.

As we have seen in this article, video presentations are far from obsolete. It is a truly engaging method to divulge our ideas, especially if we target a younger audience.

Take your time to write a compelling story to tell rather than spilling animations and transitions along the way. Professional-made video presentations always care about details and the takeaway message for the spectator.

NVIDIA Announces Project GR00T Foundation Model for Humanoid Robots and Major Isaac Robotics Platform Update

GTC— NVIDIA today announced Project GR00T, a general-purpose foundation model for humanoid robots, designed to further its work driving breakthroughs in robotics and embodied AI.

As part of the initiative, the company also unveiled a new computer, Jetson Thor, for humanoid robots based on the NVIDIA Thor system-on-a-chip (SoC), as well as significant upgrades to the NVIDIA Isaac™ robotics platform, including generative AI foundation models and tools for simulation and AI workflow infrastructure.

“Building foundation models for general humanoid robots is one of the most exciting problems to solve in AI today,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “The enabling technologies are coming together for leading roboticists around the world to take giant leaps towards artificial general robotics.”

Robots powered by GR00T, which stands for Generalist Robot 00 Technology, will be designed to understand natural language and emulate movements by observing human actions — quickly learning coordination, dexterity and other skills in order to navigate, adapt and interact with the real world. In his GTC keynote , Huang demonstrated several such robots completing a variety of tasks.

Built for Humanoid Robots Jetson Thor was created as a new computing platform capable of performing complex tasks and interacting safely and naturally with people and machines. It has a modular architecture optimized for performance, power and size.

The SoC includes a next-generation GPU based on the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture with a transformer engine delivering 800 teraflops of 8-bit floating point AI performance to run multimodal generative AI models like GR00T. With an integrated functional safety processor, a high-performance CPU cluster and 100GB of ethernet bandwidth, it significantly simplifies design and integration efforts.

NVIDIA is building a comprehensive AI platform for leading humanoid robot companies such as 1X Technologies, Agility Robotics, Apptronik, Boston Dynamics, Figure AI, Fourier Intelligence, Sanctuary AI, Unitree Robotics and XPENG Robotics, among others.

“We are at an inflection point in history, with human-centric robots like Digit poised to change labor forever. Modern AI will accelerate development, paving the way for robots like Digit to help people in all aspects of daily life,” said Jonathan Hurst, cofounder and chief robot officer at Agility Robotics. “We’re excited to partner with NVIDIA to invest in the computing, simulation tools, machine learning environments and other necessary infrastructure to enable the dream of robots being a part of daily life.”

“Embodied AI will not only help address some of humanity’s biggest challenges, but also create innovations which are currently beyond our reach or imagination,” said Geordie Rose, cofounder and CEO of Sanctuary AI. “Technology this important shouldn’t be built in silos, which is why we prioritize long-term partners like NVIDIA.”

Major Updates to Isaac Platform The Isaac tools that GR00T utilizes are capable of creating new foundation models for any robot embodiment in any environment. Among these tools are Isaac Lab for reinforcement learning, and OSMO , a compute orchestration service.

Embodied AI models require massive amounts of real and synthetic data. The new Isaac Lab is a GPU-accelerated, lightweight, performance-optimized application built on Isaac Sim specifically for running thousands of parallel simulations for robot learning.

To scale robot development workloads across heterogeneous compute, OSMO coordinates the data generation, model training and software/hardware-in-the-loop workflows across distributed environments.

NVIDIA also announced Isaac Manipulator and Isaac Perceptor — a collection of robotics pretrained models, libraries and reference hardware.

Isaac Manipulator offers state-of-the-art dexterity and modular AI capabilities for robotic arms, with a robust collection of foundation models and GPU-accelerated libraries. It provides up to an 80x speedup in path planning and zero-shot perception increases efficiency and throughput, enabling developers to automate a greater number of new robotic tasks. Among early ecosystem partners are Yaskawa, Universal Robots, a Teradyne company, PickNik Robotics, Solomon, READY Robotics and Franka Robotics.

Isaac Perceptor provides multi-camera, 3D surround-vision capabilities, which are increasingly being used in autonomous mobile robots adopted in manufacturing and fulfillment operations to improve efficiency and worker safety as well as reduce error rates and costs. Early adopters include ArcBest, BYD and KION Group as they aim to achieve new levels of autonomy in material handling operations and more.

The new Isaac platform capabilities are expected to be available in the next quarter. Learn more about Project GR00T .

Beach Museum of Art invites public to learn about, engage with Manhattan Community Portrait project

Friday, March 29, 2024

A collage of four different portraits show what appear to be a K-State student looking directly at the camera, a separate student sitting in a chair holding her face, a professor explaining a concept with his hands and a young boy sitting with his hands crossed and looking up.

The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art will host a public presentation on the "Manhattan Community Portrait," a social art project meant to foster connection within the community, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Union Hall, 328 Poyntz Ave.| Download this photo.

MANHATTAN — An upcoming presentation will give Manhattan residents the opportunity to look deeply into the faces of their neighbors and explore the connections between individuals that build community. The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University invites the public to join guest artist Susie J. Lee for a public presentation on the " Manhattan Community Portrait " project from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Union Hall, 328 Poyntz Ave. Created by Beach Museum of Art specialist Nate McClendon, the "Manhattan Community Portrait" is a social art project grounded in the belief that every individual possesses a unique story to share and seeks to promote personal connections through the inclusion of a narrative provided by each subject. Every month, a collection of portraits is updated on the walls of the Beach Museum of Art, with each portrait telling a unique and powerful story. These portraits will later be installed at various locations throughout Manhattan — from doctors' offices to coffee shops — to serve as poignant reminders that every face belongs to a real person, with their own dreams, struggles and triumphs. "This is an exciting and important project," said Kent Michael Smith, director of the Beach Museum of Art. "After everything we all have endured over the last few years, these video portraits encourage us all to slow down, look another Manhattanite in the eyes and truly see each other again. A renewed sense of belonging and empathy for our neighbor — both known and unknown — is an outcome we strive to achieve." Lee is a practicing artist whose work explores intimacy, time and connection through technology. Recognized as Emerging Artist of the Year for the “intelligence, emotion and sensuality” of her work, Lee has focused on the amplification of genuine and spontaneous human connection through technology. McClendon's project takes inspiration from Lee's "Fracking Fields" 2013 video portrait series, in which she explored the world of fracking to shine a light on the small-town, blue-collar stories of oil workers who wondered to her out loud why anyone would care about their stories. One of those video portraits, "Jake," is currently on display at the Beach Museum of Art. Lee — a graduate of Yale, Columbia and University of Washington with degrees in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, education, and fine arts — has a unique background as a scientist, educator, entrepreneur, single mother and artist that feeds into a restless intellectual curiosity that is ultimately grounded in a strong sense of vocation to positively change the world in a concrete manner. The public presentation April 5 will feature interviews with both Lee and McClendon, as well as interactive experiences to explore the ways Manhattan residents see each other as a community. Major support for the project is provided by Art Bridges Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works with museums across the country to increase local access to great American art. Union Hall in Manhattan serves as the local sponsor for the social art project. For more information, contact Nate McClendon at [email protected] .

What we know about Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday after being hit by a cargo ship, with large parts of the bridge falling into the Patapsco River.

At least eight people fell into the water, members of a construction crew working on the bridge at the time, officials said. Two were rescued, one uninjured and one in serious condition, and two bodies were recovered on Wednesday. The remaining four are presumed dead. The workers are believed to be the only victims in the disaster.

Here’s what we know so far.

Baltimore bridge collapse

How it happened: Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being hit by a cargo ship . The container ship lost power shortly before hitting the bridge, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) said. Video shows the bridge collapse in under 40 seconds.

Victims: Divers have recovered the bodies of two construction workers , officials said. They were fathers, husbands and hard workers . A mayday call from the ship prompted first responders to shut down traffic on the four-lane bridge, saving lives.

Economic impact: The collapse of the bridge severed ocean links to the Port of Baltimore, which provides about 20,000 jobs to the area . See how the collapse will disrupt the supply of cars, coal and other goods .

Rebuilding: The bridge, built in the 1970s , will probably take years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars to rebuild , experts said.

How the Israel-Hamas War Has Roiled TikTok Internally

The video app has been criticized for how it has handled posts users see about the war. Some of the same tensions have also played out inside the company.

  • Share full article

Barak Herscowitz sits on a couch with his hands folded, looking out toward a balcony and surrounded by plants.

By Sapna Maheshwari

When Barak Herscowitz joined TikTok two years ago in the company’s Tel Aviv office, his role was to recruit Israeli government agencies and other public-sector groups to join the video service and take advantage of its popularity. His pitch: TikTok was a powerful communication tool and getting more influential in the country by the day.

But Mr. Herscowitz, 38, an Israeli who had worked for the country’s conservative former prime minister, Naftali Bennett, and has at times criticized Palestinians on the social network X, grew disenchanted with the company after the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October.

His frustrations stemmed from seeing some employees express anti-Israel views in an internal group chat, and what he perceived to be a double standard in how the company approved ads that referred to the war, he said in an interview. And he was not satisfied with the response from the company when he raised those concerns.

By the end of January, he quit.

TikTok has been dogged for months by accusations that its app has shown a disproportionate amount of pro-Palestinian and antisemitic content to users of its hugely popular video platform. TikTok has strongly rejected those arguments, and its executives have met multiple times with Jewish groups to discuss those concerns. But the claims of bias have nevertheless helped fuel the debate over a House bill passed this month that would force TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to sell the app or have it face a ban.

Mr. Herscowitz’s experience, as well as interviews with four current employees at TikTok and dozens of screenshots of internal conversations, points to how some of those same currents of discontent have roiled TikTok internally. Mr. Herscowitz alluded to some of those concerns in a post on X right after he left, and his departure was brought up that week in a Senate hearing with social media executives, including TikTok’s chief executive, Shou Chew.

Mr. Herscowitz and the four employees said that they, and other colleagues, had expressed dissatisfaction in internal channels with how the company had managed in-house criticism of Israel and dialogue around the war. In addition, they have been upset to see personal views, sometimes extreme, aired in a company chat room that employees made after the war started called Palestinian Support. The employees were frustrated that the group included some workers from TikTok’s trust and safety division, which sets rules about content on the platform.

“I think they are aware of some employees who not only share these views but are in a position to shape the content and the policy of the platform,” Mr. Herscowitz said, adding that many Israelis felt the company was biased against Jews.

TikTok, when asked about the concerns raised by Mr. Herscowitz and the other employees, said that all its employees were responsible for adhering to TikTok’s internal code of conduct, “which promotes mutual respect and provides for a workplace free of discrimination and harassment.” The company added that the posts Mr. Herscowitz had flagged as inappropriate or offensive had not been made by people who worked directly in content moderation or content policy.

TikTok has long said its recommendation algorithm doesn’t “take sides” on issues. The company has pointed to Gallup data showing that millennials in the United States have become increasingly sympathetic to Palestinians in recent years.

It said it had been working aggressively to address hate speech on the app. The company removed more than 34 million videos that broke its rules in the United States from October to December, and more than 96 percent were taken down before users reported them, the company said.

TikTok also said that its U.S. moderators received unconscious-bias training and other policy training and development. Its trust and safety team, which TikTok has said is made up of more than 40,000 people, participated in an enrichment program from Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial, to deepen its understanding of the Holocaust and better root out antisemitism on the app.

“These allegations deliberately misrepresent our actions in removing violative content within minutes of notification,” Jamie Favazza, a spokeswoman for TikTok, said in a statement. “We vigorously oppose antisemitism in all forms and apply our policies equally to all content and ads on TikTok.”

Many workplaces and industries, both small and large, have struggled with employee disagreements over the Israel-Hamas war. There has been infighting at media companies like NBCUniversal, the editor of Artforum was fired after publishing an open letter supporting Palestinian liberation, and physicians at NYU Langone Health were suspended for social media posts they made about the conflict.

At major technology companies, internal tensions over political issues are often joined by accusations that workers’ views could influence how posts about those issues are displayed on their platforms. In 2019, Google discouraged employees from discussing politics on internal mailing lists and forums. Meta told workers in 2022 not to openly discuss the Supreme Court ruling eliminating the constitutional right to an abortion.

At TikTok, much of the tension has emerged in and around group chats on Lark, TikTok’s internal messaging system, according to the four TikTok employees, who spoke about frustrations at the company. Those employees, in three offices around the world, would speak only on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution for discussing in-company details.

Employees have shared their views on the conflict in several ways. Some have added Israeli flags and yellow ribbons for hostages held by Hamas to their internal work profiles that appear when messaging colleagues, two of the employees said. Others have added Palestinian flags and phrases like “stop ethnic cleaning” or “from the river to the sea” — a decades-old Palestinian nationalist slogan that many also see as a call for Israel’s annihilation — to their profiles, according to the employees and screenshots.

TikTok already had a formal affinity group for Jewish and Israeli employees called MazalTok, later renamed L’Chaim. Its numbers doubled after the war started. Several employees said being Jewish at TikTok in the months after the attack sometimes felt isolating.

A group of employees started the Palestinian Support group after Oct. 7, drawing hundreds of members, where they shared personal experiences, as well as information about the conflict and suggestions on where to donate for aid.

Early on, several Jewish employees argued in the L’Chaim chat that the Palestinian Support chat contained offensive posts. A TikTok executive reprimanded those employees for unfair reactions to colleagues seeking a safe space, saying, “Where inappropriate content is posted on Lark channels, there are a bunch of folks working hard to get things taken down behind the scenes.”

Some Israeli employees then made another chat called the Israeli Support group, which also drew hundreds of employees. TikTok appears to have managers overseeing conversations in each of the groups, based on screenshots shared with The New York Times, although the groups are not considered officially approved by the company.

Mr. Herscowitz compiled a memo in December about what he and several other colleagues in the Israel office viewed as offensive posts in the Palestinian Support group, as well as his issues with ads, and sent it to a group of top TikTok executives, including Adam Presser, its head of operations who was recently promoted to oversee the company’s trust and safety division.

The memo, which he said circulated among more than 20 employees, showed that one group member had shared a post that said, “Get you a friend that loves you the way Yemen loves Palestine,” which appeared to condone the Houthi militia attacks, and another shared information on how to support the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement targeting Israel. TikTok said that these posts were removed quickly after they were flagged, sometimes within minutes.

Mr. Herscowitz said that he had a couple of conversations with an executive in response to his memo but that he felt largely ignored. TikTok said that multiple leaders made good-faith efforts to address Mr. Herscowitz’s concerns and that it took action on several items he flagged.

Last month, the Palestinian Support group removed nearly all its members who were Jewish or who had ties to the Israeli Support group and became invitation-only, according to screenshots from both groups. Several staff members argued that they were removed because they were Jewish and filed complaints of discrimination to TikTok’s ethics office, according to three of the employees. TikTok said, “We offer a way to report concerns anonymously and investigate all reports.”

The decision was made by employees who run the group. The Times reached out to six people listed as members of the Palestinian Support group. None responded to a request for comment. The Palestinian Support group moderators told members that they removed certain colleagues to “provide a better sense of security to this community” and minimize “the feeling of being monitored by people who may not have positive intent,” one screenshot showed.

Mr. Herscowitz said he was also concerned that TikTok applied its ad policies inconsistently. The company rejected ads featuring Israeli hostages last year, saying they violated guidelines around showing scenes of war. But he said the company accepted ads from humanitarian aid groups seeking donations that showed destruction in Gaza.

TikTok said it updated its rules this year so that ads for humanitarian campaigns can run even if they refer to war or depict victims of war. The company said it had run ads from the Israeli Red Cross and others that show hostage victims.

Gabe Zichermann, who consults on corporate culture and employee engagement, said that many companies were grappling with intense internal dialogue that they had not dealt with before.

“The Israeli-Hamas is creating novel problems, and companies are definitely dealing with it in different ways,” he said.

Nadav Gavrielov contributed reporting.

Our Coverage of the Israel-Hamas War

News and Analysis

Although the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution that demands an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, it remains to be seen whether it will have a concrete effect on the war .

Israeli troops and Hamas fighters waged deadly battles in and around two of the Gaza Strip’s major hospitals as the Israeli government came under growing pressure at home and abroad to moderate its approach to the war .

As the death toll in Gaza mounts, officials in Germany, a loyal Israel ally, begin to shift tone in a country where supporting Israel is seen as a historic duty. The worsening crisis has pushed them to ask whether that backing has gone too far .

A new Gallup poll showed that a majority of Americans disapprove of Israel’s action in Gaza.

Internal Roil at TikTok: TikTok has been dogged for months by accusations that its app has shown a disproportionate amount of pro-Palestinian and antisemitic content to users. Some of the same tensions  have also played out inside the company.
