USPTO issuing electronic registration certificates

We transitioned to electronic registration certificates on May 24, 2022.

Trademark registration certificates are no longer issued by printing the registration certificate on paper and mailing the certificate to the correspondence address of record. Instead, the registration is issued electronically by the USPTO under electronic signature of the Director and with a digital seal in gold, which serves to authenticate the registration and ensure the documentation wasn’t modified. Clicking on the gold seal will display the signature properties and signer’s certificate information.

The USPTO uploads official registration certificates to the  Trademark Status and Document Retrieval (TSDR) system  and emails trademark owners and all email addresses of record a link to access their certificates upon issue. You can view, download, and print a complete copy of your registration certificate at any time and for no charge.

Request a copy of the registration

While the USPTO no longer sends paper registration certificates upon issue, you can order printed copies.

Presentation copy

Presentation are one-page paper copies of the registration that are suitable for display and framing. They feature a gold foil seal, identify the owners, display bibliographic data, and indicate the trademark and classes of goods or services, but do not list the goods and services. Presentation copies are not registration certificates or certified copies of the trademark registration.

Some trademark owners are eligible for one free presentation copy. Eligibility depends on what date you filed your initial application and what date your trademark registration issued. If you filed your initial application before May 24, 2022, then you may be eligible. Anyone who filed an initial application on or after May 24, 2022 must purchase a copy.

Presentation copies are only available for registrations that issued on or after August 13, 2013.

Receive a presentation copy

Use the Order Trademark Presentation Copy of Registration Certificate form in TEAS.

Certified copy

Trademark owners can still order a certified copy of their trademark registration for $15. Owners of registrations that issued before August 13, 2013 can only order a certified copy. This printed copy certifies the trademark’s status and title, and includes the signature of an authorized certifying officer. You can use this copy in connection with legal proceedings and some filings abroad. For more information about ordering certified copies of trademark registrations, visit the USPTO Certified Copy Center .

Why this change occurred

Over the years, many of our customers indicated that they would prefer to receive their trademark registration certificate in a digital format rather than as a paper certificate. In response to this feedback, we began issuing trademark registrations via electronic certificates to anyone whose trademark registers. This change makes certificates more accessible and decreases the time for customers to receive them, while simultaneously furthering the USPTO's efforts to implement beginning-to-end electronic processing for trademark applications.

Buying guide for best printer paper.

You might think that printer paper is printer paper and it doesn't matter which one you choose. If that’s your strategy, you could be denying yourself the sharpest printing results. Though with thousands of products available, how do you know which paper is best for you?

Admittedly, there is an overwhelming number of options when it comes to choosing the right printer paper. Some decisions are aesthetic, while others are critical for achieving the best results. Aspects such as weight, coating, and brightness can make a huge difference in what the finished print looks like.

presentation copy paper

Five key aspects of printer paper

If you want to find the best printer paper for your needs, there are five important aspects to consider: size, weight, brightness, coating, and your printer .

Paper size is the easiest factor to consider because most people use standard 8.5 x 11-inch paper for their printing needs. For legal use, however, you might need 11 x 14 inches, and if you're printing booklets, you might need to go as large as 11 x 17 inches (because this paper folds down to 8.5 x 11 inches). Choose the size that's right for the job while remembering it must also fit in your printer.

Just like it sounds, this is how much the paper weighs. Five hundred sheets (one ream) of 20-pound paper measuring 17 x 22 inches (the manufacturer’s standard size for copy paper) weighs 20 pounds. For general use, such as making copies or printing emails, 20-pound paper is fine. If you want better-quality paper for professional use, look at 22- to 24-pound paper for proposals or presentations. If you need something more durable, such as for signs or to print double-sided without the type showing through, consider 28- to 32-pound paper.

Rather than getting into the science of how much a specific wavelength of blue light is reflected off the surface of the paper, all you need to know about printer paper brightness is the higher the number, the brighter the paper. Most often, a higher number translates into a sharper printed image with crisp, not muddy, colors. In general, you'll want to consider a white paper that has a brightness between 92 and 100 for best results.

Depending on your needs, you might want to consider coated printer paper. As it sounds, this type of paper has a coating that affects how readily the paper absorbs ink. If you'd like your photos to appear crisp and glossy, for instance, that would require using coated paper. Before choosing coated paper, however, make sure your printer can print on the type of paper you’re considering.

Knowing the type of printer you have — inkjet or laser — is crucial to obtaining the best images. Many manufacturers have an all-purpose paper that is good for both types of printers. However, before using specialty paper, always check the owner's manual that came with your printer so you aren’t disappointed.

Although a traditional ream is 500 pages, manufacturers are offering less to keep the price down, giving the illusion that you’re getting more for your money when you really aren't. Be sure the printer paper that you’re considering clearly marks the amount of paper included in a package, so you know exactly how many sheets you’re getting.

Along with brightness, printer paper also comes in a variety of shades of white, off-white, and other colors. If you’re looking for a special effect, choosing printer paper that is off-white or colored might be the best solution.

Some printer paper is heavily textured. While this may seem like a great idea, many printers have trouble printing a crisp image on uneven paper. If you’re considering textured paper, be sure your printer can accommodate it.

Eco-friendly

Recycled content: The goal of recycling is to protect our natural resources. Whether the printer paper you select contains post-industrial waste (unused material from manufacturing) or post-consumer waste (paper that has already been used by a consumer), every little bit helps.

Alternative fibers: If you’re looking to save trees, choosing a paper that is manufactured using renewable bamboo, cork, cotton, hemp, mulberry, or even recyclable stone (calcium carbonate), are all viable options, but they come at a higher price.

Ultraviolet light fades and discolors acidic paper. Acid-free paper is buffered to be alkaline, which means your printed documents won’t fade or become brittle or yellowed over time. Using this type of paper can help preserve whatever you print.

Accessories

Electric Hole Punch : If you need to organize your printed documents in a 3-ring binder, an electric hole punch will save time and effort.

Paper Shredder : When you need to throw away documents with private information, a paper shredder helps prevent anyone from accessing that private information.

Printer paper prices

Like anything else, the cost of paper increases as the perceived benefits and quality increase.

Inexpensive

If all you need is a lightweight paper for copies, something not too heavy or bright, you'll be able to find it for $5 or $6 per 500 sheets.

If you need a heavier or brighter paper, perhaps acid-free as well, you'll be looking in the $7 to $9 price bracket. Recycled paper or colored paper starts at around $11.

If you need something special like card stock, photo paper, or paper made from plant fibers instead of trees, you'll pay quite a bit more, from $20 to $50 per ream. If you use a great deal of paper, getting it in bulk can lower the price per ream.

When it comes to printer paper, proper storage doesn't just protect the product and extend its usable life, it also helps to prevent other frustrations, such as jammed printers. Here are some storage tips to help you get the most out of your printer paper.

Get only what you anticipate using within three months.

Store printer paper at room temperature (roughly 68°F to 75°F).

Store printer paper in a room that has a relative humidity of between 45% and 55%.

Store printer paper away from windows, doors, and vents that may expose the paper to extreme temperatures, humidity, and bright light.

Store printer paper on a flat, even surface. (It’s okay to stack your paper.)

Keep unused printer paper sealed in the original packaging.

Load your printer with a full ream of paper, if possible, to help keep extra paper from getting bent or damaged.

Open the paper package carefully so it can be resealed if you don’t use it all at once. Tape it closed to provide the greatest protection.

Q. I like the look of textured paper. Is that an option?

A. You must be careful when using textured printer paper. While a coarse texture may only slightly distort the image on an inkjet printer, it might not even work on a laser printer. A laser printer uses toner — a fine powder made of plastic, wax, and/or magnetic particles. This powder needs to be heated to a sufficient temperature so it melts into the paper. Textured or thick printer paper may produce undesirable results when used with a laser printer.

Q. What is acid-free paper?

A. Regular paper contains lignin, an acidic substance that is important in the formation of cell walls of wood and bark. Over time, lignin causes paper to turn yellow, become brittle, and deteriorate. During manufacturing, acid-free paper is treated to neutralize these naturally occurring acids to help extend the life of the paper.

Q. Why isn't recycled paper less expensive than virgin paper?

A. There are a couple of reasons why recycled paper costs more than virgin paper. The main misconception is that recycled paper is easier to make since it already was paper. Unfortunately, that isn’t true. The challenge with recycled paper is that it’s collected in small amounts from a large variety of places. After it has been collected and sorted, any contaminants must be removed, the paper must be de-inked, and, ultimately, bleached. On top of the additional manufacturing steps, the demand is not as great for recycled paper, which also affects the price. The best way to bring the cost down is to simply get more recycled products to increase the demand.

How to choose the best type of paper for your print job

colored cardstock paper on gray background

Whether it’s a simple office notecard, business card or an eye-catching brochure to wow your customers, printing tasks call for different types of paper. White inkjet paper works well for day-to-day print jobs, but some projects — especially those delivered to clients — require special printing paper with a glossy finish or heavy-duty thickness.

Understanding the different types of printer paper will help your projects look their best. Then use our finish and paper weight guide to find the right kind of paper for any project.

Understanding different types of paper for printing

Not all paper is treated — or produced — equally. Before you choose the finish and weight for your project, find the best paper for the task. The most common types are:

  • Cardstock: Cardstock printer paper is thicker than ordinary paper. Its thickness and durability mean it’s often used to create paper menus, postcards and invitations. Cardstock can be coated or uncoated, depending on the project
  • Cardboard: Cardboard is made from unbleached wood pulp and consists of two smooth outer layers and one corrugated inner layer.  It’s a heavy-duty choice for shipping materials and tasks where durability outweighs appearances.
  • Foam board: Foam board, or foam core, has a polystyrene core layered between two pieces of paper. Foam board is a popular choice for business professionals because it’s an inexpensive, lightweight and sturdy printer paper—perfect for presentations.

Coated vs. uncoated paper

A coated or uncoated finish contributes to the paper’s feel, texture and durability. Coated paper has a light layer of clay on the surface that sharpens images and details, with finishes ranging from matte to high gloss. It’s best for projects that require the colors and pictures to be crisp, or if you need a long-lasting and moisture-resistant paper that will keep the ink from bleeding.

Coated paper is most often used for:

  • Product catalogs or magazines

Alternatively, uncoated paper doesn’t have a layer covering the natural fibers, making it more absorbent than coated sheets. It’s best for print jobs without images or if you need to write on the final product. Uncoated paper is most often used for:

  • Stationery and envelopes
  • Newsletters

Choosing the right printer paper weight

Weight selections for printer paper are often displayed as numbers and hash symbols. The “#” symbol refers to how much each ream weighs in pounds. For example, an 80-pound ream of cover stock may be sold as “80# cover.” Cardstock paper weight is measured in points. Each point — such as 12 pt. or 16 pt. — represents the thickness in thousandths of an inch.

The right paper weight depends on your project. Typically, heavier paper is thicker and stiffer. Ask yourself these questions when considering your weight options:

a stack of paper

  • Do you need to fold the paper?
  • Is your project several pages?
  • Is it for internal communications or customer materials?
  • Are you using a lot of saturated colors and graphics?

When to use heavier paper

Heavier reams are best when you need your printing project to be durable and less susceptible to rips and wrinkles. Heavy sheets hold up better to embossing or foil stamping, and sturdy printer paper feels more impressive than your run-of-the-mill sheet. Heavy reams are the best quality paper for printing for these projects:

  • Business cards
  • Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM)

U.S. postal regulations have thickness minimum requirements for some types of mail. You can find details about these regulations in the U.S. Postal Service’s Physical Standards .

When to keep it light

Thin, lightweight paper may not be as flashy, but it is sufficient for budget projects. Lighter reams of paper cost much less, especially when you buy in bulk. Plus, lightweight paper means lower shipping costs, so use thinner sheets for mail that doesn’t need to adhere to weight requirements. Ordinary printing assignments, like projects with high page counts, can also be printed on thinner paper.

  • Presentations

How to present a research paper in PPT: best practices

A research paper presentation is frequently used at conferences and other events where you have a chance to share the results of your research and receive feedback from colleagues. Although it may appear as simple as summarizing the findings, successful examples of research paper presentations show that there is a little bit more to it.

In this article, we’ll walk you through the basic outline and steps to create a good research paper presentation. We’ll also explain what to include and what not to include in your presentation of research paper and share some of the most effective tips you can use to take your slides to the next level.

Research paper PowerPoint presentation outline

Creating a PowerPoint presentation for a research paper involves organizing and summarizing your key findings, methodology, and conclusions in a way that encourages your audience to interact with your work and share their interest in it with others. Here’s a basic research paper outline PowerPoint you can follow:

1. Title (1 slide)

Typically, your title slide should contain the following information:

  • Title of the research paper
  • Affiliation or institution
  • Date of presentation

2. Introduction (1-3 slides)

On this slide of your presentation, briefly introduce the research topic and its significance and state the research question or objective.

3. Research questions or hypothesis (1 slide)

This slide should emphasize the objectives of your research or present the hypothesis.

4. Literature review (1 slide)

Your literature review has to provide context for your research by summarizing relevant literature. Additionally, it should highlight gaps or areas where your research contributes.

5. Methodology and data collection (1-2 slides)

This slide of your research paper PowerPoint has to explain the research design, methods, and procedures. It must also Include details about participants, materials, and data collection and emphasize special equipment you have used in your work.

6. Results (3-5 slides)

On this slide, you must present the results of your data analysis and discuss any trends, patterns, or significant findings. Moreover, you should use charts, graphs, and tables to illustrate data and highlight something novel in your results (if applicable).

7. Conclusion (1 slide)

Your conclusion slide has to summarize the main findings and their implications, as well as discuss the broader impact of your research. Usually, a single statement is enough.

8. Recommendations (1 slide)

If applicable, provide recommendations for future research or actions on this slide.

9. References (1-2 slides)

The references slide is where you list all the sources cited in your research paper.

10. Acknowledgments (1 slide)

On this presentation slide, acknowledge any individuals, organizations, or funding sources that contributed to your research.

11. Appendix (1 slide)

If applicable, include any supplementary materials, such as additional data or detailed charts, in your appendix slide.

The above outline is just a general guideline, so make sure to adjust it based on your specific research paper and the time allotted for the presentation.

Steps to creating a memorable research paper presentation

Creating a PowerPoint presentation for a research paper involves several critical steps needed to convey your findings and engage your audience effectively, and these steps are as follows:

Step 1. Understand your audience:

  • Identify the audience for your presentation.
  • Tailor your content and level of detail to match the audience’s background and knowledge.

Step 2. Define your key messages:

  • Clearly articulate the main messages or findings of your research.
  • Identify the key points you want your audience to remember.

Step 3. Design your research paper PPT presentation:

  • Use a clean and professional design that complements your research topic.
  • Choose readable fonts, consistent formatting, and a limited color palette.
  • Opt for PowerPoint presentation services if slide design is not your strong side.

Step 4. Put content on slides:

  • Follow the outline above to structure your presentation effectively; include key sections and topics.
  • Organize your content logically, following the flow of your research paper.

Step 5. Final check:

  • Proofread your slides for typos, errors, and inconsistencies.
  • Ensure all visuals are clear, high-quality, and properly labeled.

Step 6. Save and share:

  • Save your presentation and ensure compatibility with the equipment you’ll be using.
  • If necessary, share a copy of your presentation with the audience.

By following these steps, you can create a well-organized and visually appealing research paper presentation PowerPoint that effectively conveys your research findings to the audience.

What to include and what not to include in your presentation

In addition to the must-know PowerPoint presentation recommendations, which we’ll cover later in this article, consider the following do’s and don’ts when you’re putting together your research paper presentation:

  • Focus on the topic.
  • Be brief and to the point.
  • Attract the audience’s attention and highlight interesting details.
  • Use only relevant visuals (maps, charts, pictures, graphs, etc.).
  • Use numbers and bullet points to structure the content.
  • Make clear statements regarding the essence and results of your research.

Don’ts:

  • Don’t write down the whole outline of your paper and nothing else.
  • Don’t put long, full sentences on your slides; split them into smaller ones.
  • Don’t use distracting patterns, colors, pictures, and other visuals on your slides; the simpler, the better.
  • Don’t use too complicated graphs or charts; only the ones that are easy to understand.
  • Now that we’ve discussed the basics, let’s move on to the top tips for making a powerful presentation of your research paper.

8 tips on how to make research paper presentation that achieves its goals

You’ve probably been to a presentation where the presenter reads word for word from their PowerPoint outline. Or where the presentation is cluttered, chaotic, or contains too much data. The simple tips below will help you summarize a 10 to 15-page paper for a 15 to 20-minute talk and succeed, so read on!

Tip #1: Less is more

You want to provide enough information to make your audience want to know more. Including details but not too many and avoiding technical jargon, formulas, and long sentences are always good ways to achieve this.

Tip #2: Be professional

Avoid using too many colors, font changes, distracting backgrounds, animations, etc. Bullet points with a few words to highlight the important information are preferable to lengthy paragraphs. Additionally, include slide numbers on all PowerPoint slides except for the title slide, and make sure it is followed by a table of contents, offering a brief overview of the entire research paper.

Tip #3: Strive for balance

PowerPoint slides have limited space, so use it carefully. Typically, one to two points per slide or 5 lines for 5 words in a sentence are enough to present your ideas.

Tip #4: Use proper fonts and text size

The font you use should be easy to read and consistent throughout the slides. You can go with Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri, or a combination of these three. An ideal text size is 32 points, while a heading size is 44.

Tip #5: Concentrate on the visual side

A PowerPoint presentation is one of the best tools for presenting information visually. Use graphs instead of tables and topic-relevant illustrations instead of walls of text. Keep your visuals as clean and professional as the content of your presentation.

Tip #6: Practice your delivery

Always go through your presentation when you’re done to ensure a smooth and confident delivery and time yourself to stay within the allotted limit.

Tip #7: Get ready for questions

Anticipate potential questions from your audience and prepare thoughtful responses. Also, be ready to engage in discussions about your research.

Tip #8: Don’t be afraid to utilize professional help

If the mere thought of designing a presentation overwhelms you or you’re pressed for time, consider leveraging professional PowerPoint redesign services . A dedicated design team can transform your content or old presentation into effective slides, ensuring your message is communicated clearly and captivates your audience. This way, you can focus on refining your delivery and preparing for the presentation.

Lastly, remember that even experienced presenters get nervous before delivering research paper PowerPoint presentations in front of the audience. You cannot know everything; some things can be beyond your control, which is completely fine. You are at the event not only to share what you know but also to learn from others. So, no matter what, dress appropriately, look straight into the audience’s eyes, try to speak and move naturally, present your information enthusiastically, and have fun!

If you need help with slide design, get in touch with our dedicated design team and let qualified professionals turn your research findings into a visually appealing, polished presentation that leaves a lasting impression on your audience. Our experienced designers specialize in creating engaging layouts, incorporating compelling graphics, and ensuring a cohesive visual narrative that complements content on any subject.

About Paper Weights

Learn about paper weights, please check out our new paper weight meters on every paper page.

Understanding paperweights can be difficult. Trust us, we know. So we here at Paperworks.com have designed this sheet to try and simplify the different terms you may hear in association with paperweight. The term paperweight, and number corresponding with each weight, refers to the thickness and sturdiness of the paper, not the actual weight of the sheet. We have recently provided paper weight meters on every page to help you pick the perfect paper weight.

Learn more about Paper Weights .

This is why, sometimes, the same "weight" paper may be referred to as two different things. For instance, regular everyday copy paper is most commonly referred to as a "20 lb. bond" but is other times referred to as a "50 lb. text weight." To eliminate as much confusion as possible, we have chosen GSM as our conversion reference point because it is a definite and universal measure of the paper. GSM stands for grams per square meter, which is the actual weight of the sheet.

Calculate lbs to gsm

Calculate gsm to lbs, in order from lightest weight to heaviest.

*Please remember that the greater the "lb" associated with a paper not always determines that it is a thicker sheet. Notice that the 67lb Vellum Bristol has a lower gsm than a 65lb cover because they are two different categories of cardstocks and are scaled differently.

We hope this clarifies the difference between paperweights, and gives you a better understanding of what will fit your application best! With any further questions, please feel free to contact our paper professionals at 888-631-9170 !
