Modelling the Heating Process in the Transient and Steady State of an In Situ Tape-Laying Machine Head
As the use of composite materials increases, the search for suitable automated processes gains relevance for guaranteeing production quality by ensuring the uniformity of the process, minimizing the amount of scrap generated, and reducing the time and energy consumption. Limitations on production by traditional means such as hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, and in-autoclave methods tend not to be as efficient when the size and shape complexity of the part being produced increases, motivating the search for alternative processes such as automated tape laying (ATL). This work aims to describe the process of modelling and simulating a composite ATL with in situ consolidation by characterizing the machine elements and using the finite differences method in conjunction with energy balances in order to create a digital twin of the process for further control design. The modelling approach implemented is able to follow the process dynamics when changes are made to the heating element and to predict the composite material temperature response, making it suitable for use as a digital twin of a production process using an ATL machine.
Impact of Physical Factors of Workplace Environment on Workers Performance in Industry
Workers’ performance and efficiency are dependent on their workplace facilities. The present study attempts to identify the six physical factors of the workplace environment: furniture and equipment design, air quality, temperature, sanitation, lighting and noise. Workers' feedback is evaluated by using 5 scale Likert method and it is found that found workplace temperature is most critical for workers' performance. The purpose of this study is to identify workers' impressions about their workplace environment and provide a better understanding to the managers about improvement. Industry-level emphasis on these factors can improve workers' performance standards and production quality. Previous work performance studies are not focused on hygiene and sanitation facility but due to the corona pandemic situation sanitation concern has been raised. This study aims to explore the relationship of these factors with gender and work experience of the workers. Variation in each group has provided an understanding of the basic demand of each type of worker. Journal of Engineering Science 12(3), 2021, 57-66
Overview on the digitized production of welded steel structures
Abstract This paper presents a concept and practical topics involved in digitized production. The term “production” denotes the design, fabrication, and service life of a product, which in this case elaborates on welded steel structures. This includes the required information for guiding all the process stages of the chosen material back to its re-melting, following the material flow in a fully digitized form. This concept enables an increase in production quality at a higher level while minimizing the risk of human errors. Automation of the short-run production of steel structures for demanding applications is also a key goal, together with securing a cost-efficient process. Typically, such structures are fabricated from high- or ultra-high-strength steels. Though challenging, reaching these aims seems to be realistic by applying advanced fatigue design methods, using high-quality robotic welding and receiving information about the real loading of the structure.

Reading Between the Lines
This chapter contributes to strategic management studies in family firms by focusing on innovation strategies as drivers to guarantee firm survival across generations. Specifically, built on the construct of family business innovation posture and based on the content analysis of 10 small and medium family firm narratives, this chapter identifies the figure of the father as the cornerstone in whom innovation strategies have their origin and their evolution as firm-driven, family-driven, and/or market-driven. The chapter proposes a model that highlights the dimensions of family heterogeneity and provides new insights into the relationship between the role of the father figure and three drivers related to family business innovation: product and production quality, past knowledge, and risk-taking propensity.
Produksi Dan Kualitas Jerami Padi Sumber Hijauan Pakan Dengan Waktu Panen Dan Dosis Pupuk Berbeda
This study was aimed to analyze the fertilizer dosage and harvest age in Ciherang rice varieties to increase the rice straw production and quality. This study used a block randomized design with 3 x 4 blocks divided based on harvest age H1 = 114 days, H2 = 118 days and H3 = 122 days. The treatment was fertilizer dose level which consists of 4 levels, namely: P0 (control) = Urea 55 g+SP-36 5 g+KCl 6 g, P1= Urea 63,25 g+SP-36 5 g+KCl 6 g, P2= Urea 71,50 g+SP-36 5 g+KCl 6 g dan P3= Urea 79,75 g+SP-36 5 g+KCl 6 g. The variables observed were straw production, grain production, filled grain production, empty grain production, crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) and Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results showed that P3 was significantly (p< 0.05) the highest among fertilizer dose level treatments on the straw production (27.63 tons ha-1), filled grain production (5.52 tons ha-1), and reduced empty grain (0.15 tons ha-1). The Quality of rice straw were CP 7.49%, CF 20.35%, ADF 55.03 %). While at harvest age, H1 was significantly (p< 0.05) the highest among harvest ages treatments on the variables of straw production 28.18%, empty grain production 0.21 tons ha-1) and NDF 69.11%. It can be concluded that the best fertilizer dosage was an addition of urea by 45% with harvesting age of 114 days. Key words: fertilizer, harvest age, production, quality, rice straw
Processing and Compatibility of Corydalis yanhusuo: Phytochemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, and Safety
Processed and polyherbal formulations (compatibility) are widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). However, processing and compatibility may alter the efficacy and safety of herbal medicines, and therefore, evaluating the herbal medicines changes after processing and compatibility is important for their safety. Since Corydalis yanhusuo (Y.H.Chou & Chun C.Hsu) W.T.Wang ex Z.Y.Su & C.Y.Wu (Family: Papaveraceae and Genera: Corydalis), a traditional medicinal plant in China, Japan, Korea, and other Asian countries, has been used for treating a wide range of medical conditions, it is an ideal representative of studying the effects of processing and compatibility on efficacy and toxicity. In this paper, information was obtained by searching electronic databases, classic books, PhD and MSc dissertations, local conference papers, and unpublished materials prior to July 2021. We provide a summary of the phytochemistry, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, quality control, and safety of C. yanhusuo under various processing or compatibility conditions. Based on our findings, vinegar processing is probably the best C. yanhusuo processing method, which could increase the absorption rate of tetrahydropalmatine (THP) in the heart, liver, spleen, lung, and brain tissues and alleviate mice muscle tremors and liver damage caused by C. yanhusuo. These results indicate that processing and compatibility can reduce toxicity and increase the efficacy of C. yanhusuo. The information provides an expanded understanding of the efficacy and toxicity mechanisms of TCM compounds, which is valuable for industrial production quality control and future drug research.

Kodak: A Parable of American Competitiveness
When American companies shift pieces of their operations overseas, they run the risk of moving the expertise, innovation, and new growth opportunities just out of their reach as well, explains HBS Professor Willy Shih, who served as president of Eastman Kodak's digital imaging business for several years. Key concepts include: Outsourcing ends up chipping away at America's "industrial commons"—the collective R&D, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities that are crucial to new product development. If the United States wants to keep from slipping any further in its ability to compete on the industrial stage, the government must increase its support of scientific research and collaborate with the business and academic world. A Golden Opportunity for Ford and GM
With Toyota caught in a downshift, competitors should make aggressive moves to capitalize, says HBS professor Bill George. For starters, they need to improve their auto lineups for the long term. He explains how Ford and GM can best navigate the industry landscape ahead. Key concepts include: For U.S. automakers to accelerate production while Toyota remains wounded is not a long-term strategy for success. The companies should cut costs while simultaneously transforming their organizations and revamping product lineups. Ford and GM could secure market share gains by investing windfall profits into making products more competitive for the next decade. In this regard, Ford has the jump on GM. Chrysler is missing a golden opportunity to revamp, reposition, and reorganize. Closed for comment; 0 Comments.
