See the 2020 Annual Tables Top 100 research institutions for 2019 .

(Share, formerly referred to in the Nature Index as Fractional Count (FC), is a measure of an entity’s contribution to articles in the 82 journals tracked by the index, calculated according to the proportion of its affiliated authors on an article relative to all authors on the article. When comparing data over time, Share values are adjusted to 2019 levels to account for the small annual variation in the total number of articles in the Nature Index journals. The Nature Index is one indicator of institutional research performance. See Editor’s note below.)

By A.J. Hostetler Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health

Bolstered in part by the intense drive to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, Virginia Commonwealth University now ranks among the top 50 public research universities in the United States for the first time.

The  National Science Foundation’s Higher Education Research and Development fiscal year 2021 survey , released Thursday, ranks VCU as No. 50 in the country for fiscal research expenditures. Reaching this ranking comes well ahead of the timeline set out by VCU’s Quest 2028 goals. VCU ranked No. 58 last year.

“The importance of this achievement is more than just hitting a target number,” said Michael Rao, Ph.D., president of VCU and VCU Health System. “The NSF ranking shows where VCU stands related to our peers and more importantly, to how far and fast we’ve come. Our growth is one of the fastest among Virginia universities and demonstrates our impact and continued success and stature as a public research university committed to transformative innovation. We are in a unique position to influence the long-term economic, social and physical health and well-being of the communities we serve.”

“Our new ranking reflects the talented researchers and scholars who conduct collaborative, transformational and outstanding research, as well as the engagement of VCU’s dedicated staff, postdoctoral trainees and students who help facilitate VCU's increased national and global prominence,” said P. Srirama Rao, Ph.D., vice president for research and innovation at VCU.

The National Science Foundation calculates expenditures based on the portion of awarded research grants from various institutions, initiatives, endowments and foundations spent in a fiscal year. The remaining grant amounts carry over to future years. In this annual survey, the NSF defines research and development funding as expenditures from all funding types related to creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge, including STEM, health, arts and humanities faculty.

The NSF HERD ranking typically follows the announcement of total sponsored programs activity by 12 to 18 months. In FY21, VCU received a then-institutional record $363 million in sponsored program activity. Industry funding accounted for $56.6 million, including $32.5 million for clinical trials. Earlier this fall, VCU announced that the university had passed the $400 million mark for sponsored program activities, and  VCU’s finalized total for FY22  is now  $405.6 million , a nearly 50% increase from FY18.

“I expect our current upward trend in sponsored funding to continue,” Vice President Rao. “This means that more students and other trainees will have the opportunity to contribute to research led by our top faculty and outstanding scholars in various fields of arts, engineering, humanities, social sciences and medicine. They can in turn engage with the community and share newly acquired knowledge to promote innovation for the public good.”

VCU’s inventive faculty have a strong impact on Richmond, Virginia and beyond. In FY 2021, 27 patents were issued and 24 inventions were licensed or optioned, with seven start-ups launched, to advance transformative innovation and enhance the economic and social well-being of the region. One such licensed invention is a potentially life-saving therapeutic that could work against variants of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The new ranking recognizes the university’s investment in research aligned with the four initiatives that ground the  One VCU Research Strategic Priorities Plan , designed to capitalize on VCU strengths to shape the future through transformative innovation. For example, the university earlier this year encouraged team-based efforts among VCU’s diverse community of research leaders on its campuses, including VCUarts Qatar, providing nearly $4.4 million in new internal funding to 55 transdisciplinary projects to address societal grand challenges.

Based on federally financed research and development expenditures for FY21, several of VCU’s research areas featured in the top 100 of  the national rankings  among all public research universities and include:

  • No. 1: Visual and performing arts
  • No. 7: Non-science / engineering fields
  • No. 13: Education
  • No. 31: Social work
  • No. 34: Health sciences
  • No. 35: Psychology
  • No. 37: Department of Health and Human Services
  • No. 41: Biological and biomedical sciences
  • No. 45: Life sciences
  • No. 58: Expenditures in science and engineering fields
  • No. 66: Computer and information sciences
  • No. 82: Engineering

In FY 2021, VCU received a $16 million gift to the Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research aimed at fostering collaborative science and health care research among VCU investigators and students. New federal funding that year also allowed VCU’s oyster shell recycling program to expand the community project into Northern Virginia, helping to replace oyster beds that play a critical role in sustaining the Chesapeake Bay.

VCU received several impactful federal grant renewals to address societal challenges. One such renewal funds the pursuit of developing a drug to target a specific, tumor-growing protein that causes pancreatic cancer. Another renewal continues VCU’s investigations into the genetic components of alcohol use disorder. VCU’s Medicines for All Institute is partnering with a Richmond-based firm, Phlow Corp., on a $354 million federal contract to secure the domestic pharmaceutical supply chain.

“The foundation of our strength is our collaborative community of field-shapers with diverse experiences among our three campuses, including VCUarts Qatar,” Vice President Rao said. “We see this in the effort going into the creation of the new Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health. Collaboration among disciplines is essential for achieving transformative innovation that impacts our community, nation and even our world.”

Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future

The enactment of the America COMPETES Act in 2006 (and its reauthorization in 2010), the increase in research expenditures under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and President Obama's general emphasis on the contribution of science and technology to economic growth have all heightened interest in the role of scientific and engineering research in creating jobs, generating innovative technologies, spawning new industries, improving health, and producing other economic and societal benefits. Along with this interest has come a renewed emphasis on a question that has been asked for decades: Can the impacts and practical benefits of research to society be measured either quantitatively or qualitatively?

On April 18-19, 2011, the Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy (STEP) and the Committee on Science, Engineering and Public Policy (COSEPUP) of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine, held a workshop to examine this question. The workshop sought to assemble the range of work that has been done in measuring research outcomes and to provide a forum to discuss its method. The workshop was motivated by a 2009 letter from Congressman Rush Holt (D-New Jersey). He asked the National Academies to look into a variety of complex and interconnected issues, such as the short-term and long-term economic and non-economic impact of federal research funding, factors that determine whether federally funded research discoveries result in economic benefits, and quantification of the impacts of research on national security, the environment, health, education, public welfare, and decision making.

Measuring the Impacts of Federal Investments in Research provides the key observations and suggestions made by the speakers at the workshop and during the discussions that followed the formal presentations.

Measuring the Impacts of Federal Investments in Research: A Workshop Summary

Thirty years ago federal policy underwent a major change through the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, which fostered greater uniformity in the way research agencies treat inventions arising from the work they sponsor. Before the Act, if government agencies funded university research, the funding agency retained ownership of the knowledge and technologies that resulted. However, very little federally funded research was actually commercialized. As a result of the Act's passage, patenting and licensing activity from such research has accelerated.

Although the system created by the Act has remained stable, it has generated debate about whether it might impede other forms of knowledge transfer. Concerns have also arisen that universities might prioritize commercialization at the expense of their traditional mission to pursue fundamental knowledge--for example, by steering research away from curiosity-driven topics toward applications that could yield financial returns. To address these concerns, the National Research Council convened a committee of experts from universities, industry, foundations, and similar organizations, as well as scholars of the subject, to review experience and evidence of the technology transfer system's effects and to recommend improvements. The present volume summarizes the committee's principal findings and recommendations.

Reshaping the Graduate Education of Scientists and Engineers

What are employer needs for staff trained in the natural sciences at the master's degree level? How do master's level professionals in the natural sciences contribute in the workplace? How do master's programs meet or support educational and career goals?

Science Professionals: Master's Education for a Competitive World examines the answers to these and other questions regarding the role of master's education in the natural sciences. The book also focuses on student characteristics and what can be learned from efforts underway to enhance the master's in the natural sciences, particularly as a professional degree.

This book is a critical tool for Congress, the federal agencies charged with carrying out the America COMPETES Act, and educational and science policy makers at the state level. Additionally, anyone with a stake in the development of professional science education (four year institutions of higher education, students, faculty, and employers) will find this book useful.

Science Professionals: Master's Education for a Competitive World

Higher education is a linchpin of the American economy and society: teaching and research at colleges and universities contribute significantly to the nation's economic activity, both directly and through their impact on future growth; federal and state governments support teaching and research with billions of taxpayers' dollars; and individuals, communities, and the nation gain from the learning and innovation that occur in higher education.

In the current environment of increasing tuition and shrinking public funds, a sense of urgency has emerged to better track the performance of colleges and universities in the hope that their costs can be contained without compromising quality or accessibility. Improving Measurement of Productivity in Higher Education presents an analytically well-defined concept of productivity in higher education and recommends empirically valid and operationally practical guidelines for measuring it. In addition to its obvious policy and research value, improved measures of productivity may generate insights that potentially lead to enhanced departmental, institutional, or system educational processes.

Improving Measurement of Productivity in Higher Education constructs valid productivity measures to supplement the body of information used to guide resource allocation decisions at the system, state, and national levels and to assist policymakers who must assess investments in higher education against other compelling demands on scarce resources. By portraying the productive process in detail, this report will allow stakeholders to better understand the complexities of--and potential approaches to--measuring institution, system and national-level performance in higher education.

Improving Measurement of Productivity in Higher Education

In order for the United States to maintain the global leadership and competitiveness in science and technology that are critical to achieving national goals, we must invest in research, encourage innovation, and grow a strong and talented science and technology workforce. Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation explores the role of diversity in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce and its value in keeping America innovative and competitive. According to the book, the U.S. labor market is projected to grow faster in science and engineering than in any other sector in the coming years, making minority participation in STEM education at all levels a national priority.

Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation analyzes the rate of change and the challenges the nation currently faces in developing a strong and diverse workforce. Although minorities are the fastest growing segment of the population, they are underrepresented in the fields of science and engineering. Historically, there has been a strong connection between increasing educational attainment in the United States and the growth in and global leadership of the economy. Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation suggests that the federal government, industry, and post-secondary institutions work collaboratively with K-12 schools and school systems to increase minority access to and demand for post-secondary STEM education and technical training.

The book also identifies best practices and offers a comprehensive road map for increasing involvement of underrepresented minorities and improving the quality of their education. It offers recommendations that focus on academic and social support, institutional roles, teacher preparation, affordability and program development.

Is a research university right for me?

Research universities are colleges and universities whose faculty are active in research and publishing. Research universities offer a wide array of doctoral programs, especially in the sciences. They tend to be big, with tens of thousands of students.

Do you prefer a larger university setting , such as largest public university in your state? Research universities are typically big, offering degrees in many different disciplines.

Is a big high-powered research environment the thing for you? If not, you should think about a liberal arts college. In deciding on an undergraduate institution, ask yourself what sort of environment will best help you to be happy and excel.

  • Consider whether you are self motivated enough to be a face in the crowd for some classes and largely unknown on campus at a large university. Of course you can find clubs and friends at a large university, but often liberal arts colleges have a more personal quality to them. If you want the community feel, a research university may not fit you well.
  • Are you interested in STEM fields? Research universities have that name for a reason – real research is happening there. This can create an exciting atmosphere for students interested in STEM. Attending a research university can give you a better chance of getting into better programs for graduate degrees, although a lot of that depends on your performance.

The 10 Largest Universities In The United States

Many teens spend dozens of hours combing through university admission requirements and benefits, crossing their fingers and hoping for a lucky bite: what would it take to convince you to spend four years in one school and not another? Location, affordability, prestige, and culture are the biggest draws for aspiring students, and these behemoth colleges make large schools look rural. The average higher learning institution in the United States is responsible for educating 6,354 students, yet the following ten universities are operating with ten times that amount. Then, the question is, what makes them so great?

Historically, Texas A&M holds the distinction of being the oldest higher education institution in Texas. Also, UCF provides students with opportunities to work alongside expert faculty in groundbreaking studies as a means of encouraging research innovations. One highlight tradition is the 'Spirit Splash,' a water escapade involving the capture of rubber ducks. Published annually since 2005 by the Naveen Jindal School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas , the rankings are compiled from academic research published in 24 leading peer-reviewed journals across a number of business disciplines. Each year, the rankings, reported for North America and worldwide, reflect a rolling five-year average.

This year’s ranking finds the top six positions unchanged both in the Worldwide and the North American rankings.

In both rankings, the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School remains at No. 1, followed by the Jindal School at No. 2 and Columbia University at No. 3.

In the worldwide rankings, 11 countries are represented: Unites States (67 schools are represented), China and United Kingdom (eight schools each), Canada (5), Singapore (3), The Netherlands, Australia, France (2 schools each), Spain, Denmark and Italy (1 school each).

In terms of the number of articles, the competition between the Top 100 schools worldwide tightened compared to 2023. In 2023 (for the period from 2018-2022), there was a difference of 336 articles between the No. 1 and No. 100 school. In 2024 (for the period from 2019-2023), the difference was 324 articles. The points comparison narrowed from 181.39 to 171.95.

“This new ranking shows that research productivity continues to increase among the top business schools in the world,” said Dr. Hasan Pirkul Caruth Chair and Jindal School dean. “Industry — and society by extension — benefit greatly from this research. Since much of this research is conducted in partnership with industry, academia also benefits because we gain insight into the pressing challenges faced today by industry.”

In the North American rankings, two schools join the Top 100 this year: Syracuse University’s  Martin J. Whitman School of Management at No. 96 and the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business at No. 98.

Establishing the effectiveness of health personnel development aid toward the united nations’ sustainable development goals, researchers find a breakthrough from the perspective of ‘nurses and midwives’.

Ansari Business Building

On Feb 6. Sandun Perera, associate professor of business analytics and operations at the University of Nevada, Reno, and his international coauthors including Yong Wang, Sachin K. Mangla, Linna Han, and Malin Song, unveiled their groundbreaking research aimed at supporting the universal health coverage goals of the United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the article, “Aligning Development Aid toward Sustainable Development Goals: When and Where is Aid Effective on the Health Workforce?” published in Production and Operations Management journal, one of the Financial Times top 50 journals, the authors study the effectiveness of aid toward the health workforce development in developing countries. The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focus on ensuring universal health coverage by 2030 and WHO highlights the pivotal role of healthcare workers in achieving SDG-3.

The research aimed to boost the confidence of donors and funding managers by demonstrating how effective development aid can be in improving the health workforce. This effort specifically aligns with the SDG 3.c goal set by the UN. Additionally, researchers seek to provide clear guidance to funding managers and policymakers on the most effective ways to use development aid to enhance the growth of the health workforce. This will help ensure that aid is allocated to the right segment within the healthcare sector.

It was evident that even before the COVID-19 pandemic, there weren't enough healthcare workers worldwide. There was a large gap of 18 million between the number of workers there were and what was needed. In 2018, most countries in the African region had less than ten nurses and midwives for every 10,000 people. When the pandemic hit, it made these shortages even worse, and some countries had to ask for help from others. Despite these high needs and the introduction of SDG 3.c, which focuses on improving health financing and the health workforce, only a tiny 0.78% of all the money for healthcare in 2020 actually went towards helping build up the healthcare workforce. This small amount shows a big problem: not enough money is going to where it's most needed. The goal was to show how helpful development aid can be when allocated effectively.

“On one hand, given the dire need for the health workforce in developing countries, we were very surprised to know that only less than one percent of all official health aid has been directed to health workforce development,” Perera said. “On the other hand, the effectiveness of health personnel development aids within individual segments of the health workforce and constraints that determine the effectiveness was not known to policymakers, thereby greatly deterring the provision and allocation of aids.”

In their research, they also observed that during global pandemics like COVID-19, people tend to support giving less money for aid. This happens because the countries donating money also have financial troubles during these crises. However, they argue that support for aid could go up when people see it as a way to stop future outbreaks, especially by helping developing countries first. More interestingly, as a breakthrough finding, researchers show that the money given for aid always helps nurses and midwives irrespective of the current workforce density of this leading segment. Thus, to address global health workforce shortages amid pandemics, the funding managers should focus on showing donors how effective the aid is, especially when targeted toward pandemic-specific health workforce development such as nurses and midwives.

Additionally, when deciding where to send aid, people should think about the government effectiveness of recipient countries as well as the current density of individual segments within the health workforce. For example, if a country doesn't have enough doctors and clinical workers, sending aid might not directly solve that problem. Also, the effectiveness of aid varies depending on how many healthcare workers a country already has.

“Ensuring universal health coverage is one of the top priorities under the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) is keen on our commitment to SDGs. Our research not only directly supports the UN’s SDG-3 on Good Health and Well-being by urging funding managers and donors to reconsider overall aid provision and allocation for adequate, fair, and effective support for global health workforce development, but also fulfills the AACSB’s mission on the societal impact of Business School research. Lastly, it’s very satisfying to see insights derived from data-driven research shedding light on a real-life humanitarian problem,” Perera said.

The research highlights the urgent need for focused support in developing the global healthcare workforce. Despite the essential role healthcare workers play, especially in times like the COVID-19 pandemic, less than one percent of official health aid targets this critical area. By emphasizing the importance of tailoring aid to match the specific needs of recipient countries and concentrating on key groups like nurses and midwives, the study offers practical insights for policymakers and funding managers.

Top Female Scientist in the U.S. recognized for the second year in a row

Media contact:.

Patricia Brandt Manager, Public Relations and Communications, Huntsman Mental Health Institute University of Utah Health Email: Patricia.Brandt @hsc.utah.edu

Deborah A. Yurgelun-Todd, Ph.D., professor of psychiatry and vice chair for research at Huntsman Mental Health Institute at University of Utah Health has been named as one of the U.S.’ top female scientists, for the second year in a row.

The list of U.S. Top Female Scientists from Research.com is based on the number of peer-reviewed publications and citations throughout the scientist’s career. For Yurgelun-Todd, that means a career total (and counting) of 424 publications and 33,647 citations.

 Deborah A. Yurgelun-Todd, PhD

Yurgelun-Todd is recognized as a leader in studying brain activity as it relates to behavior. Her laboratory has applied a variety of magnetic resonance imaging techniques to identify brain changes in mood processing and neurocognitive functions. For example, in people who use Cannabis and in children as they develop into adolescence. Using a variety of imaging techniques has led to an improved understanding of both developmental and brain changes that lead to altered behavior. This knowledge may eventually result in better and more personalized treatments for patients who have or are vulnerable to psychiatric disorders.

In addition to her role at Huntsman Mental Health Institute, Yurgelun-Todd serves as the director of the Salt Lake City VA Rocky Mountain Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center for Suicide Prevention. Her work there is focused on veteran suicide prevention through the application of neuroimaging approaches and neurocognitive assessments.

“Dr. Yurgelun-Todd serves as an excellent role model for our institution, inspiring critical psychiatric brain research, and educating future mental health professionals,” said Mark H. Rapaport, MD, CEO, of Huntsman Mental Health Institute. “Her leadership has been foundational to creating a global nexus of mental health and brain research right here in Utah.”

In addition to her research, Yurgelun-Todd works to narrow the gender gap in science by tackling obstacles to obtaining funding, developing leadership roles, and establishing national collaborations.

“As one of the few women around the table in the early years of my career, I recognize both the effort it took to reach this milestone, and the work to be done to create research opportunities for all”, said Yurgelun-Todd.

Yurgelun-Todd is currently working to bring a new mental health and brain Translational Research Building— which will house the only 7 Tesla MRI in the world dedicated to the study of the brain and behavioral disorders—to life at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute. Her team is bringing together experts across law, ethics, architecture, art, genetics, neurosciences, and others on the campus of University of Utah to collaborate and bring research-backed practices into patient care.

Over the years: How much has the University of Florida spent on research?

biggest research universities in the us

The University of Florida was mentioned in an announcement by the Board of Governors on Wednesday about increased research expenditures in the state's university system.

The Board of Governors shared March 27 that research expenditures for the State University System (SUS) of Florida reached $2.94 billion for the 2022-23 academic year, an increase of over $400 million from the year prior. UF's increased research expenditures contributed to that number.

The total listed in this announcement surpasses the projection of $2.68 billion set by the SUS in 2019, putting universities in Florida on course to exceed the collective goal of $3 billion by 2025, it said.

“The increase in research expenditures would not be possible without the continued collaboration our institutions have instilled to secure research grants as well as our exceptional faculty and graduate and undergraduate research scholars who have competed for federal awards,” said Brian Lamb, chair of the Florida Board of Governors, in a news release.

Universities in the SUS had an increase in their research expenditures. UF's one-year gain was the highest of all universities in the system at $164 million. Florida State University was in second place with an increase of $58 million.

“Academic research is vital to Floridians’ quality of life and to the state’s economic vitality. Our researchers are seeking cures for diseases, improving crops, unraveling the mysteries of the universe, and developing technologies that will drive tomorrow’s economic and national security,” said David Norton, UF’s vice president for research, in a prepared statement.

“Over the past decade, UF research expenditures have increased by 80%, nearly doubling the rate of growth for university research spending nationally and helping to drive the remarkable growth of the State University System overall. We are proud to be part of this Florida success story.”

UF's Research Expenditure numbers, provided by Steve Orlando, associate vice president for communications, show that within five years the university's expenditures related to research have grown significantly, from $865 million in 2018 to $1.25 billion in 2023. Within just 10 years it has nearly doubled, going from $695 million in 2013 and in recent years surpassing $1 billion.

Other universities mentioned, with their increases:

  • University of South Florida, $56 million
  • Florida International University, $35 million
  • University of Central Florida, $32 million
  • Florida Atlantic University, $16 million
  • Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, $15 million
  • Florida Gulf Coast University, $15 million
  • University of North Florida, $7 million
  • University of West Florida, $1 million
  • Florida Polytechnic University, $0.7 million

“Through Governor DeSantis’ leadership and the support of the Florida legislature, Florida’s public universities have exceeded expectations by significantly investing in research to create new jobs and impact Florida’s economy for years to come,” Chancellor Ray Rodrigues said in a news release. “I look forward to what our outstanding faculty and institutions accomplish over the next five years.”

The news release said research expenditures in the SUS created an estimated 3,660 new jobs and provided an economic impact of $5.5 billion, with $1 billion resulting from state funding.

University of Washington's Workday woes leave research grants in limbo

$340m finance upgrade still working out the kinks.

Hundreds of research grants are stuck in processing limbo as the University of Washington continues to grapple with its $340 million implementation of Workday software.…

The US West Coast institution, a top recipient of federal funding, has spent more than five years shifting 850 legacy tech to a centralized cloud-based SaaS finance and HR system.

The finance side of the project – officially UW Finance Transformation – ran into problems last summer when a backlog of unpaid supplier invoices hit $90 million. By the end of last month, the team had cut the figure to $43 million, but grant payment troubles continue.

According to the Seattle Times, processing delays have affected hundreds of grants due to problems with the Workday system. Problems with ongoing funding persist too.

In a statement to The Register, a university spokesperson said: "While the necessary migration to Workday from our old legacy systems has been challenging, the update is currently on budget and on track, and we expect our grant and vendor backlogs to be back to normal levels by July after a significant amount of time and hard work put in by people across the university.

"We have made significant progress with our workstreams, but there is still work to do. It is not uncommon for a technology shift of this size to introduce complex issues. Nevertheless, these are operational implementation issues and not related to the overall Workday contract performance metrics and Workday's standing as a key university partner and stakeholder."

A Workday spokesperson said the company was committed to supporting the University of Washington's project. "A significant transition like this requires numerous change management and process considerations to help support success."

A management consultancy report seen by the Seattle Times found the project – which began in 2018 – had struggled with a lack of IT skills and pandemic lockdowns.

But the report from Bluecrane also said the switchover plan contained ill-defined priorities, and critical decisions were delayed while management placed too much emphasis on "experts" and "salespeople."

It's not the first time a Workday implementation has experienced problems at a university. In 2021, The Register reported that teaching assistants (TAs) at Canada's McGill University spent Christmas waiting to be paid as the institution struggled with a new Workday HR and payroll system.

At the time, the Association of Graduate Students Employed at McGill said that more than 460 TAs were not paid within the first 30 days of starting work, while more than 180 TAs were not paid within the first 60 days.

By January, the university said it had resolved all known instances that affected new hires at the start of the Fall semester and is rapidly solving any new cases as they arise.

Workday said it was an industry leader in higher education with more than 400 institutions using its software. ®
