School captain speech examples

In this article, we’ll look at the speeches that won school captain elections. We’ll also give you some tips on how to write your own winning speech for a school captain election.

We’ve got two examples of speeches that were given by students who went on to win their school captain elections: one from an Australian high school student and another from an American middle school student. Both speeches are very good because they have all the elements of a great speech–they’re funny, they have interesting facts and stories in them (which keeps people engaged), and both speakers talk about things that relate directly back to themselves or their peers (so they make it easy for listeners).

School captain speech topic ideas

Here are some ideas for school captain speech topics:

  • The importance of school spirit.
  • Why it’s important to give back to the community.
  • How you plan on making your school better by becoming a leader and role model for others.

How to write a great school captain speech outline

To write a great speech outline, you need to follow these three steps:

  • Start with a hook. You want to grab your audience’s attention right away. This can be done by using an interesting fact or statistic that relates to the topic of your speech, or by telling a story that illustrates what you’re going to talk about later on in the speech. If possible, try not to use any quotes from movies or other sources unless it’s absolutely necessary for illustrating your point (and even then, only use them sparingly).
  • Use strong openings and closings when writing out your speech outline–and make sure both are relevant! Don’t forget about these two sections because they are just as important as any other part of writing an effective school captain election speech outline; if nothing else comes across strongly enough for voters during these sections then there won’t be much left worth remembering later on down in middle parts like introduction paragraph(s), body paragraphs(s) etcetera…

How to write a winning school captain speech

  • Use the right tone
  • Use the right body language
  • Use the right content and style of speech
  • Deliver your speech effectively

A winning school captain speech can help you win the election.

A good school captain speech can help you win the election. If you’re running for school captain and want to give an impressive speech that will make everyone remember you, then this article is for you!

To write a great school captain speech outline:

  • Think about your audience. What do they want from their new leader? What are their hopes and dreams for the future of the school? How can they see themselves reflected in your words?
  • Have a clear message. Make sure that everything in your talk ties back into what makes YOU special – why should people vote for YOU instead of anyone else who wants this job too (and there will almost certainly be other candidates). Don’t try too hard though; keep it simple!

With the help of these school captain speech examples, you can write a great speech that will help you win your election. It’s important to remember that you don’t have to write from scratch and there are plenty of resources available online. Just make sure that whatever you do use is original and doesn’t copy anyone else’s work!

Speech for School Election

An election is one of the essential pillars of democracy, and it is through this democratic system that people can choose the representatives of their choice who they feel have the capability to become leaders. Here are some speeches for the school election.

10 Lines Speech for School Election

"Somewhere inside us is the power to change the world."

1. A pleasant morning to all my friends who are present here. As we are aware, today is school election day. The fact that you are here shows that I have your support.

2. The decision to contest the student council election was challenging. But If you aspire to help the people around you, solve their problems and work for their interests.

3. A school provides the first opportunity to give wings to your dreams.

4. We all are fortunate to study in this excellent school where students have ample opportunities to explore, expand and excel.

5. Being a student takes work; becoming a school leader will take a lot of work.

6. But I assure you, if I win the election, I will work for the benefit of all of us.

7. If you would like the school to introduce an introductory Artificial Intelligence course as a vocational subject or provide excellent quality food in the canteen, I will vouch for that.

8. Friends, I believe in working as a team. No leader can survive alone, and the best results are obtained when the interests of everyone are taken care of.

9. I stand for justice and won't let you down if you choose me.

10. As I conclude my speech, I urge all of you to vote for me and give me a chance to take this school to greater heights.

Short Speech for School Election

"If there was one thing you could change about this school, what would it be!"

A pleasant morning to everyone present here. I am so happy to see all of you in active mode, and this points to your support for me.

Once Abraham Lincoln said, "Of the people, by the people, for the people." This describes the essence of democracy; in a democratic country, people can choose their government by themselves without any pressure.

Elections are the best tool if they are used relatively and no malpractice is allowed. Candidates should remember this if people have the right to choose them and will enable them to run the government, and if they don't, then they can be overthrown as well by the people. They are free to vote for any candidate according to their preferences.

Election gives us the power to choose the best leader in every session. If one is not performing up to the mark, he can be replaced in the next voting session. An election is an excellent opportunity for people to voice their dissatisfaction. People can replace undesirable leadership with a better alternative through the election.

With my experience and passion, I could be a great leader. I promise to do my best to curb bullying, increase student interest in school and increase overall academic achievement.

Long Speech for School Election

"Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves and one another."

Firstly, let me thank you all for your presence here today. As you all know that I am running for the Presidential post in the upcoming school council election, I would like to use this opportunity to share my views about the kind of work I would love to do for the welfare of the school and the students.

"Of the people, by the people, for the people," stated Abraham Lincoln once. This sums up democracy in its most basic terms; citizens make their own, pressure-free decisions about their government. Same way, students can make these decisions to elect a candidate for the presidential post for the school student council.

As a student, I feel that education is not just the pillar of success for us. We all need good services, be it infrastructure, adequate counseling, focus on extracurricular activities, and vocational courses on personality development. Being a student takes work; becoming a student leader is challenging. Today, I am feeling the same while addressing you and asking for your support in the election.

If I Get Elected

It is rightly said, “with great power comes great responsibility”.

If I get elected, my first work would be to improve the sanitation and hygiene of the students. I shall ensure that our playground and the parking lot are appropriately maintained and sanitized. I am also considering seeking confirmation from the administration to allow two game periods a day, considering the workload we have.

We are thinking of implementing a photography course and piano classes as vocational subjects in the coming days, and our team is working hard to achieve all these goals. If given this opportunity, I shall fight for equality, justice, and transparency for our student council, where every student gets a chance to raise their voice.

Sadhguru once said, "Integrity, Insight, and Inclusiveness are the three essential leadership qualities". We also believe in the same principle of leading an organization or a system, where our sole aim is to take care of the interests of the students of our school so that they get the best education, health, and hygiene facilities. All these factors are essential for their overall development, as well as for the school's progress too.

Our focus is not just on academic progress, but we also have our priorities set on co-curricular activities and sports. We plan to allocate more coaches in games like volleyball, cricket, football, badminton etc to all sports enthusiasts who want to pursue a career in this field.

With my experience and passion, I think I could be a great leader. Friends, I also believe in working as a team, and fighting for justice, whenever the need arises. Together with me, let us work for the well-being of the student and the school. Choose your vote wisely, and may the best person win.

How to Write a Speech to Win School Captain

Mary Dowd

Tips on Writing a Welcome Address at a High School Graduation

Writing and delivering a winning speech for a school leadership role requires planning, a sense of purpose and practice. No matter whether you are hoping to be picked for school captain, school president or class president, you need to convince others that you really, really want the job for all the right reasons. Make your speech less about you and more about what you can do to serve others and make a difference.

What Is a School Captain?

A school or class captain in the British school system is like a school or class president in the American school system. Despite different titles, the roles are similar. The purpose of a student leadership position is to act as a positive role model, encourage school spirit and embody school beliefs and values. A school captain is a go-between for teachers and students to represent the student voice and to ensure excellent two-way communication.

School Captain Responsibilities

Duties vary somewhat by school, but typically, assignments include bringing forward student concerns to the administration to advocate for positive change, such as healthier food options on the school menu and in vending machines. Student leaders may head a committee to plan student activities that will build a sense of community. Other tasks may include giving tours of the school to visitors and greeting parents who are attending functions.

Serious School Captain Speeches

Before launching your campaign or drafting your speech, interview a cross section of your classmates to find out what they like about the school and what improvements they hope to see in the upcoming year. Develop a consistent message in your campaign materials and speech that identifies your goals based on an assessment of student needs.

Do not fall into the trap of making grandiose promises just to be chosen by administration or voted into office. The tone of your speech should be upbeat, positive and high energy to hold your listeners' attention.

Humorous Class Captain Speech

If you are witty, outgoing and considered the class clown, you may want to interject humor into your speech. A funny but teacher-approved story will show your likable and relatable side.

For instance, you may want to share that you were cast as a juggler in the school play when making the point that you are experienced at juggling multiple tasks. However, do not go overboard with humor, or you run the risk of not being seen as a serious contender who will work hard.

Prepare Your Speech

Speeches are like English essays, with a strong beginning, middle and end. Keep in mind how much time you will be allotted because you may be cut off if you exceed the time limit. Outline your speech with main points and then write out your speech to avoid stumbling on your words or rambling.

Start with an introduction that includes your name, year in school and the reasons you are highly qualified to serve as school captain. List specific examples of your prior accomplishments in extracurricular activities and student organizations. Mention that you are a visionary student who believes every student should feel welcome and supported at the school.

In the body of your speech, identity two or three goals or issues you would like to address if selected for the position. Emphasize your leadership qualities. For instance, you might state that other students and teachers would describe you as outgoing, approachable, dedicated and responsible. End with an action statement summarizing what you hope to accomplish and directly ask for their vote or support. Show a draft of your speech to a favorite teacher and ask for feedback.

Practice Your Speech

Stand in front of a mirror at home and practice your speech or enlist your family as an audience. You should sound eager and excited to represent and serve fellow students. Smile, maintain good eye contact and use gestures intentionally. Speak clearly and articulate your words. Pretend you are confident even if you are shaking and super nervous. That is perfectly normal and does not mean you are not leadership material.

How to Devise an Influential School Election Speech

Elementary schools, high schools, and college universities all have student councils. This position will bring you plenty of benefits, but it also entails a heavy responsibility and several obligations. If you are up for the challenge, aside from handing out election brochures and flyers, you also need to accomplish crafting a compelling election speech that will show off your speech writing skills.

1. Write Your Self-Introduction Speech

Start with a self-introduction speech . When going up the stage, your audience would have questions in their mind. Who are you? Why are you on the podium? In writing your opening speech, you should answer those questions. State your name and confidently enumerate your accomplishments as well as the clubs you joined. In addition, you should also mention the extracurricular activities you have participated in and explain how they contributed to the school.

2. Enumerate Your Reasons for Running

After you have proven that you have the credentials to run for the position of your choice, list your reasons for running for that specific position. Include your motivation and inspiration behind it. Detail your intent and how being part of the student council will help you achieve your personal goals and career goals .

3. Construct a Gripping Platform

The next part is to start writing your campaign speech . In writing the items for your platform, the most crucial method is to listen to your fellow students’ concerns. Discuss your goals and your strategic plan. Also, detail the steps you would employ to take action to the ongoing problems in your school. Remember not to promise things you cannot achieve. In listing your objectives for your platform, ensure to follow the framework of SMART goal setting .

4. Compose a Powerful Closing Statement

After the previous steps, the last part of composing your speech is to produce your conclusion statement. Like persuasive speeches , your campaign speech should persuade the voters to give their votes to you. That said, you should provide them a closing sentence that would help you achieve the purpose of your election speech.

How can you win a student council election?

Running for a student council position is a lot of work, and trying your best to win it requires extra effort. First, you should compose a campaign statement coupled with a campaign logo design . If you are running with a party, it is advisable to do room-to-room campaigns. You can also opt to post creative and attractive posters in the designated school areas. In addition, you should win the election debates.

How does a student council contribute to the school?

The student council members function to communicate concerns and ideas between the students and the school management. One of the crucial roles of the school council is to lend a hand to the school management in organizing school activities. Some of their responsibilities include hosting events, attending meetings, and also compose a  fundraising plan .

Why are election speeches necessary?

A well-crafted student election speech will help you win the hearts and the votes of the students. Your public speaking will serve as a tool for you to communicate your goals and reason for running. In addition, having the opportunity to give your speech will give you the time to speak out about the changes that you want to bring to the school system.

The management of your school tailors the system to bring out the best potential of the students. Despite that, there are times when they fail to view certain situations in the students’ perception. In those times, the student council will have to do their roles and amplify the students’ voices. Being part of the student council will help you exercise the essential skills needed to ensure the accomplishments of your dream career. That said, be the change that you have always wanted. Take it one step at a time and start devising a compelling school election speech for now.

Speech Guidelines for a School Captain Candidate Plus an Example

Being the school captain is among the things that many students strive to attain in school. Whilst some are fortunate to become leaders in their respective schools, others disappear into oblivion with their hopes forever shattered. One of the factors that separates winners from other candidates is the whole concept of speech making and delivery.

And when I’m talking about speech, I’m not talking about words just put together for the sole reason of announcing your candidature. These are very cleverly selected words that will arouse the students’ desire to elect you as their representative. It is true that when you fail to plan, you plan to fail. This maxim is also true in speeches. A speech that does not go through the guidelines explained below will not have the desired outcome.

Speech Writing Guidelines for a School Captain

1. let your message be brief and precise.

Avoid using many filler words to make the speech long. With a long speech, you will obviously loose the attention of the audience. The speech should be short and content rich. It should be straight to the point. You should hit the nail while it is hot- the nail in this case refers to the first few minutes that the audience is attentive. Hit them with that punch line that will leave you glued to their minds. You should keep your explanations minimal and if you can do it without explanations, the better.

2. Simplicity is genius

As albert Einstein rightly put it, “If you can’t explain it simply, then you don’t understand it well enough.” The beauty of using simple language is that you reach a wide scope of students. Using complex and complicated jargon will isolate the audience and the message will not reach its intended destination.

Furthermore, you do not want your fellow students to think you are above them. If they cannot understand you, how will they trust you to deliver their grievances to the authorities above? While a technical jargon showcases your mastery of the language and may open for you unlimited opportunities in the future, at this point in time it would be advisable to speak in a language that befits a school setting. Do not forget that you will also be communicating to pupils of the lower grade. Do not overlook their votes, they are equally as important as other votes.

3. Content should be organized in point form.

The speech should be broken down into parts to make it more orderly and precise. The organization of the speech will be explained better in the outline section later in the article. Ensure that each paragraph has its own point. Each paragraph must begin with a topic sentence, followed by few supporting lines and these supporting sentences must be related to the topic sentence. The paragraphs should however be brief. Try not to go very deep into the topic at hand.

4. Exhibit qualities of a leader.

Whether you are delivering it before a congregation or just putting it on paper, there must be some level of authority that the people listening or reading can feel. Nobody wants to be represented by a coward. Naturally, people are conditioned to follow a courageous leader, who has authority and leads by example. Apart from that, kindly be as honest as possible in your speech. Do not promise things you cannot deliver. Mistrust is one deep pit you cannot salvage yourself from.

5. Use the first person.

This is quite obvious always use the first voice when referring to yourself and in second person when referring to the students or audience. It creates a form of bond between you and the students when you refer to them directly. Also, always use active voice, as it is more authoritative and direct. Passive voice is least effective when you call people into action. For instance, when you say, “We will beat them,” sounds more authoritative than saying, “They will be beaten by us.”

Planning is an integral part of a speech. An outline gives you the format or rather, a rough draft of what your speech should look like. Here is the basic format of a speech:

Introduction

Remember first impressions always last. The contents of your introduction and how you present it will either make you or break you. This is an important part of your speech, as this is the part which will either win the audience’s attention or lose it. The length of the introduction should be no more than 10% of the whole speech. So, if your speech is to last 5 minutes, then your introduction should take like 40 to 45 seconds. Here, you should provide your greetings, introduce yourself and state your purpose.

The body is the bulk of the speech, making 80% of it. What you intend to do when elected the school captain should falls within this segment. Each point should be kept in separate paragraphs and should be accompanied by few sentences shading more light on each one of them. You should however be brief and avoid going into too much details. This will bore the audience and will make the speech too long. The body should follow this format:

1 st  Paragraph

  • Topic sentence 1
  • 3-4 sentences supporting topic 1

2 nd  Paragraph

  • Topic sentence 2
  • 3-4 sentences supporting topic 2

3 rd  Paragraph

  • Topic sentence 3
  • 3-4 sentences supporting topic 3

This part should only be 10% of the speech. Your conclusive remarks are just as important as any other part of the speech. It would be absurd to give a mind blowing presentation and then have a lackluster ending. One of the best way of wrapping things up is by use of a famous quote with a few additional remarks or you may give thanks to all the people who have supported you to where you are. You may also opt to quickly summarize all your points, whichever way you choose it, when done correctly they are both equally effective.

Essay Sample for a School Captain

Dear students, teachers and the *insert school* community at large, good afternoon. It is yet again that time of the year that we have to exercise our individual rights to select the rightful leaders to represent us. I come at your presence, not as a leader but rather as a servant who will put your interests first before mine.

I have spent all my learning years in this school and I’m very aware of all the challenges that students go through. Each year, I have witnessed recurring issues that threaten the pillars of our institution, which are peace, love and unity. I’m here to put an end to that. Your humble servant speaking is *insert your Names*, sixth grade and I’m running for this year’s School Captain.

I have a confession to make. The idea of vying for the School Captain position was first initiated to me in the fourth grade by *insert teacher’s name*, who saw the leadership qualities in me. Mr./Mrs. *teacher*’s sentiments are also shared by other teachers and students, who have privately confided in me about my natural ability to inspire and mobilize people.

I would like to publicly thank them, because they are the spark that ignited this fire in me. My decision to vie for this position is a way of me giving back to this wonderful school. All the years I have spent in this here have been nothing, but good and memorable. Everyone in this school, including teachers and my fellow students have been wonderful and if I was to go back in time, I would still do it again here.

Coming from a very religious background, my parents taught me the importance of humility. That is the reason why I’m naturally humble, friendly and approachable. I believe all people are born equal and I give each person the respect he/she deserves. As most of you are aware, I have worked hand in hand with the outgoing School Captain to ensure that this institution is always running smoothly.

I would like to personally call upon you to come in large numbers during the voting period and continue what I already started with my predecessor. It does not matter who wins. The most important thing is that the process has to be free and fair. Let the voice of the people be heard, because injustice here is a threat to justice everywhere.

Lastly, I would like thank my parents, friends, teachers, students and everyone, who took part in molding me to become the person I am. If it were not for you, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I would also like to thank everyone who showed up to this function today. You sacrificed your precious time to come and lend us your ears. A great day is indeed seen in the morning. All the people that participated in this democratic practice are surely destined for greatness. They are the people who will bring good change to this wonderful nation in the future. Vote wisely, vote with your hearts. May God bless you. Thank you.

How to write a school captain speech for primary

A school captain is a student leader who inspires his colleagues and helps to bridge the communication gap between students and the administration. As a school captain, you must lead the rest of the school and help them achieve their personal goals. A captain must be ready to correct and organize the students` body to live the values, mission, and vision of their institution. As a captain, communication is very critical. Understanding how to present the students’ issues to the administration requires good communication skills. To inspire action and keep the students` body in control of a healthy communication mechanism in place. Vertical communication with students is typically a common phenomenon, and for efficacy, a good speech is necessary.

The purpose of the provision of school captain requires prime communication skills, and captain`s speeches are critical. Apt writing skills are necessary to achieve the best results. This article, therefore, focuses on some of the key tips a school captain ought to look out for when drafting their speeches. The article also features a speech outline and a sample of a captain’s speech.

Five tips on school captain speech writing

1. be authoritative.

A leader is authoritative and decisive. Being a school captain comes with a responsibility that you have to fulfill. The position of a school captain, therefore, needs an authoritative and decisive person who can guide the school in the right direction without wavering. Such aspects must be reflected in your speech.

2. Keep your message short and clear

Listening to long speeches can be boring. As a captain, you ought to talk more and act less. Therefore, for each speech addressed to the students should be short with minimal explanations.  Long speeches can be boring and less effective than short content-rich speeches. Short speeches truncate the unnecessary details and enhance the understandability of the message.

3. Simple language and illustrations

Simplicity is one of the key requirements a school captain’s speech ought to be. Writing in very technical jargon would be ineffective. This is because the audience is diverse and have different levels of language mastery. Freshmen might not be able to understand technical language used by a finalist school captain, and thus the students in lower academic levels need to understand the message fully.

4. Organize your content in point form

A captain’s speech must be orderly and precise. Organizing each point into its paragraph is a good place to start. If the message is organized in a paragraph, then each paragraph should feature a single point which is well elaborated. For each paragraph, it must have a topic sentence , then few supporting sentences. The supporting sentences must be relevant to the topic sentence. Include an illustration for example, if necessary, at the end of the paragraph.

5. Use active voice in the first person

Since you are the school captain, it is obvious you must write the speech in the first person. It is also wise to use active voice which is more authoritative and powerful to deliver the message. Active voice is more effective to call for an action.

Outline example

The captain`s speech also needs an outline to act as a guiding tool for writing the essay. Outlines ensure the captain sticks to the relevant and important issues he wishes to address in his speech. After outlining them, he can proceed to write a great speech from the outline.

A Student’s Inspiring Election Campaign Speech for the Post of School Leader!

Red Lighted Candles Christmas Gift

A warm good morning to one and all.

Leadership is an opportunity to serve. It is with this vision I aspire to be your leader. If selected, I would love to lead by example not just in academic pursuits but in all co-curricular activities as well.

The focus of my talk this morning is about three R’s. They are Reach, Respect , and Relationship.

Blood Jesus Cleanse

First of all let me talk about Reach. Most of us have potential. And many of us have not discovered what it is all about. One of my first priorities will be to create opportunities for everyone to display their skills and talent. We cannot do it on our own. We need the guidance and support and encouragement of our teachers.

I am sure they will extend all possible help in this regard. In fact we are blessed to have the opportunity to study in this School which has always set standards of excellence not only in academic results but more importantly in student-teacher relationship.

The second thought I want to share with you is about Respect. Why is this important? This is important because we live in a world where mind, muscle and money power rules. Human rights are constantly being violated. Intolerance between communities is growing. It is in this context that respect for others should be taught and understood and appreciated in our classrooms.

It is good to begin while we are young. I would like to create an atmosphere of respect in classrooms. We should learn to respect our parents, our teachers and elders. We should learn to respect the law of the land and be law-abiding citizens.

The third thought is about Relationship. What is the point in studying in the same school and sitting on the same bench and not knowing what your friend’s difficulties in life are? We have become too selfish that we do not care for those who are hurting. So as your leader one of my priorities will be to create healthy relationships in classrooms thus paving the foundation of friendships that will last a lifetime.

This is very important because today children are spending more and more time with gadgets; chatting, gaming, and living in a virtual world. I wish that our students would spend more time in face to face interaction and joyful communication thus cementing good relationships.

So these are my main thoughts: One, Let us strive to reach our full potential. Two, Let us create an atmosphere of respect. And three, Let us also try to build lasting relationships.

So I seek your cooperation. For nothing can be done by a leader alone. A leader is one who has a vision and has the ability to share it.

This I have done with all my heart! Now it is your turn to respond to this vision.

As cricket commentators say, a captain can only be as good as the members of his team. No captain has succeeded without great team work. So I appeal to all of you my friends that we will achieve these goals through united effort, working hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder. Not one of you will be left behind.

Success to me is not one person achieving. Instead, it is about helping others achieve. It is about enabling others to realize their dreams. So let us begin to realize our full potential. Let us do this in an atmosphere of respect and sportsman spirit. In this process let us build lasting relationships.

Let me assure you my friends we are not going to be defeated, we will certainly win. And the beauty of the victory will be that we all shall win together and make our teachers and parents proud. So my dear friends, when you cast your votes remember me and my vision I have shared with you. Do cast your precious votes in my favour.

Reach, Respect, Relationship. This is my vision, my dream and my goal. I cannot do it in my own strength but in the strength God shall provide. I cannot do it alone; we shall do it together. Thank you.

In many ways, school elections are just like elections anywhere else. [1] X Research source To win over voters, you need to reach out to as many voters as possible. You will also need to work hard to make sure people know who you are, and why they should vote for you.

Deciding to Run

Step 1 Decide what position to run for.

  • If you are looking for specific areas that you can improve in your school, talk to authority figures, such as your teachers or the principal, current members of the student government, or even your fellow students.

Step 3 Develop a theme.

  • Writing a slogan , a short tagline for your campaign, is a great way to keep your ideas short and simple. It can be serious or funny, but make sure it is about you. It needs to remind people who you are, and that they should vote for you.

Step 4 Create a network.

  • Encourage your network to bring in more friends to help. There is nothing wrong with additional support.

Campaigning for Votes

Step 1 Create a campaign team.

  • Not everyone will want to talk to you about the election. That's fine, just let them walk away. You don't want to be pushy or overbearing.
  • Don't get so focused on winning over one small group that you forget larger ones. You probably can't win over everyone, so don't be discouraged by the votes you don't get.

Step 3 Encourage people to vote.

  • These items are great places to use a slogan if you made one.
  • For posters, create and hang as many as possible. Make sure they follow any guidelines the school sets, as you don't want school officials taking them down.
  • Buttons and stickers can go on all kinds of items, and schools may not put the same limits on them as they do on posters. You can also pass them out with other small trinkets, which are great ways to help students remember you.

Step 5 Be confident, happy, and friendly.

  • Be kind to all students not only those who have power or are popular. [4] X Research source
  • Show responsibility in class. Students look up to other students that participate in class and answer questions. [5] X Research source

Step 6 Prepare a...

  • Stay within the time limits the school gives you. You want to get as many of your ideas out there as you can, but people have short attention spans, and nobody will listen if you talk too long.
  • It is a good idea to practice your speech before giving it. Ask your friends if they will listen to you read it out loud. This can help give you the confidence to speak in front of a large group and provide useful feedback.
  • Join an after school club or oral communications class to refine your public speaking skills. [6] X Research source

Good morning Principal Ma’am, Teachers, and my dear friends, I am Tejas Ghorpade from class 9 th C, and I stand before you as a nominee for the post of Jaguar House Vice-Captain .

I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude to the teachers for considering me worthy of this position. With great powers comes even greater responsibility, I realize that; it is a privilege to have the honor and I am confident that I will be a suitable candidate.

I aim to be a good leader who you can look up to, as well as a friend you can simply talk to. More so during these tough times, where I pray that all are doing well. I wish to walk alongside you, on the path best suitable for our growth.

From being largely involved in sports, to performing well in academics; I believe in maintaining a healthy balance between academics and co-curricular activities, as both are vital for character building. Red, the color of passion, energy, strength, and power, is what unites us. Red binds us, makes us a family thicker than blood. Red, the symbol of danger, is what others should feel when they see us. Jaguarites, it has been too long since the Top Cat was ours, and I want us to excel, everywhere, to bring that honor home.

I promise to always be there, for each one of you and for our house. I will give my best and support you to give yours, and together we will make this happen. Instead of searching for the light at the end of the tunnel, we need to be that light. For us, For Jaguar.

So please support me, and I promise to make it worth your vote. Regardless of the result, I will always be there to help you. May the best candidate win.

Thank you and stay safe.

Speech on Sports Captain

A sports captain plays a key role in leading a team to victory. They’re the ones who inspire, motivate, and guide their teammates on and off the field.

Being a sports captain isn’t just about wearing a special armband. It’s about showing courage, making tough decisions, and setting an example for others.

1-minute Speech on Sports Captain

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good day to you all. Today, I stand before you to deliver a speech on a role that’s crucial in the sporting world – the Sports Captain. A sports captain is not just a title, it’s a responsibility, a duty, and a personification of commitment and teamwork.

A sports captain is the backbone of a team. They hold the baton of leadership, organizing, and uniting the team. They are tasked to bring out the best in each player, ensuring everyone is working harmoniously towards a shared goal. They liaise between the coach and the players, ensuring that the strategies are understood and executed properly.

Being a sports captain is not just about talent in a particular sport. It’s also about exhibiting strong leadership skills, showing respect towards teammates and opponents alike, demonstrating a high level of discipline, and the ability to motivate and inspire others.

A sports captain is also a role model, setting an example both on and off the field. They have to maintain a fine balance of competitiveness and sportsmanship, as they represent not only themselves but also their team and their school or organization. It is their ethical behavior and positive attitude that sets the tone for the rest of the team.

In conclusion, being a sports captain is both an honor and a challenge. It requires an individual to transcend personal glory for the betterment of the team. So let’s appreciate the hard work and dedication of our sports captains, and support them as they guide our teams to victory.

2-minute Speech on Sports Captain

Good morning to all. Today, I am honoured to stand before you and speak on the topic of ‘Sports Captain’. A sports captain is not just a title, it is a responsibility, an honour, and a platform to inspire. A sports captain leads their team not just on the field but off the field as well, instilling discipline, promoting teamwork and embodying sportsmanship.

A sports captain is expected to lead by example. This does not merely mean scoring the highest runs or goals but demonstrating a high level of commitment, dedication, and respect for the game. As a sports captain, one should be the first to arrive and the last to leave, always ready to put in the extra effort to improve oneself and the team. They ought to be an epitome of discipline, punctuality and physical fitness.

However, a good sports captain knows that leadership extends beyond personal performance. They understand the importance of teamwork and unity. They know how to motivate their team members, encourage them during their lows, and celebrate their achievements. They must possess the ability to bring together individuals with different temperaments, strengths and weaknesses, and mould them into a cohesive unit. They must foster an environment of trust and respect, where every team member feels valued.

Furthermore, a sports captain must embody sportsmanship. Winning is important, but a great sports captain understands that it is not everything. They should appreciate the spirit of the game, respect their opponents, accept defeat graciously, and celebrate victory humbly. They set a standard for their teammates to follow, ensuring that the game is played in its truest spirit.

Being a sports captain also means being a role model. Younger players look up to the captain for guidance and inspiration. They observe the captain’s behaviour, actions, and attitude towards the game. Therefore, a sports captain must be mindful of this influence and strive to set a positive example, both on and off the field.

In conclusion, a sports captain is a leader, a team player, a sportsman, and a role model. Stepping into this role requires a perfect blend of talent, leadership skills, and a deep-rooted love for the game. Being a sports captain is a rewarding experience, offering opportunities to learn, grow, and inspire. It is a role that requires commitment and dedication, but the rewards are equally great.

Remember, a team is only as strong as its weakest link, and a good sports captain ensures that every link in the chain is strong. So, let us applaud the spirit of sportsmanship and celebrate the role of a sports captain in shaping a team. Thank you for your attention.

A government minister has confirmed she will not be supporting the government's legislation to ban smoking.

Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who is a minister in the Foreign Office minister wrote on X: "I have pondered long and hard about how to vote and have decided that in its present form I cannot support it.

"This is just stage one of the legislation and I hope that at the next stage we can make amendments which will make it law which will be more likely to actually deter young smokers without removing freedom of choice for adults.

"My granny smoked all her life, the rest of us have always been opposed to it as a result. But her ability to decide for herself is one which I would not want to remove.

"So what might work? That we raise the age of being allowed to smoke to 21, since most young people start before they are 20.

"Logically this will therefore see far far fewer people take up the bad habit in the first place."

Her comments come after Kemi Badenoch, the business and trade secretary, announced she would be voting against the bill (see 17.42 post).

In the final vote on amendments to the government's Rwanda bill today, the Lords handed Rishi Sunak a fourth defeat.

This amendment mandates that those who worked with the UK military or government overseas, such as Afghan interpreters, to be exempted from removal to Rwanda.

The House of Commons rejected a similar measure yesterday, but the Lords are insisting.

The result is:

  • 253 in favour;
  • 236 against.

That means the amendment passes with a majority of 57.

As a result of today's votes, the bill will return to the House of Commons tomorrow for MPs to have their say, as the parliamentary "ping-pong" process continues.

After a series of wins in the House of Commons yesterday, the government is suffering a series of defeats in the House of Lords today.

Peers just voted in favour of an amendment to restore the jurisdiction of domestic courts in relation to the safety of Rwanda and enable them to intervene.

That means the amendment passes with a majority of 17.

Rishi Sunak and Benjamin Netanyahu will speak on the phone tonight, Sky News understands.

It comes after Mr Sunak told MPs yesterday during a statement to parliament following Iran's attack on Israel that he would be speaking to his Israeli counterpart "shortly".

After what No10 called said was issues with scheduling the call between the leaders, a time has now been set for this evening.

By Darren McCaffrey, political correspondent

Locked out and not allowed back in. That was the rather extraordinary position Nigel Farage and some conservative politicians found themselves today at a right-wing conference in Brussels.

The police's action provoked yet again arguments around free speech and extremism, but ultimately ended up creating major news too.

It wasn't meant to be that way.

The National Conservativism Conference is a frankly a fringe event.

Yes it started five years ago, and previous guests have included Michael Gove and Jacob Rees-Mogg.

This year Mr Farage and Suella Braverman turned up.

These are undoubtedly big voices on the right, but they weren't expected to create much news.

In fact, most of the limited coverage was likely to focus on the former home secretary's rather punchy attack on her old boss the prime minister and a setting out a case for leaving the ECHR.

Instead, the repeated actions from several district mayors in Brussels to ensure the event didn't have a venue took centre stage.

Explaining why he had brought in the police - the Mayor Emir Kir said some of the attendees hold anti-gay and anti-abortion views.

And writing on X claimed: "The far right is not welcome."

This unsurprisingly provoked any angry response from those there, including Mr Farage who told me: "Have you seen the people in the room? Does this look like a bunch of yobs to you? Far, far from it.

"These are a lot of very respectable, very eminent people. I mean, we've got bishops here. We've got a prime minister of a country here. We've got a European royal family here. I mean, these are very respectable people.

"There's also no protest outside of any significance at all. It's about closing down an ideology."

Irrespective of who is right and who is wrong, this latest skirmish in the constant battles around free speech was seized upon by the conference as the latest example of cancel culture.

Cancel culture in real time, as one claimed.

And the rather blunt use of the police - far from silencing those in attendance - merely only seemed to amplify their arguments.

Making it difficult not to conclude that if you wanted people to hear your views about cancel culture, the actions of the Brussels authorities only helped in that cause.

The government has lost a second vote in the House of Lords this afternoon on its legislation to rescue the embattled Rwanda scheme.

Peers voted on an amendment that says Rwanda "cannot be treated as a safe country" until the Independent Monitoring Committee - created by the treaty agreed with Rwanda - affirms that the mechanisms it creates have been fully implemented.

The result of the vote is:

  • 266 in favour
  • 227 against.

That's a majority of 39 in favour of the amendment.

Right now, Rishi Sunak is going to be thinking about his legacy.

Yes, yes, we don't know the outcome of the election, he's getting on with the day job, he's fighting for another five years.

But Rishi Sunak WILL be thinking about his legacy. What is it that will he be remembered for?

Now, there is an argument that one of his most lasting achievements as prime minister will be the smoking ban.

Tonight, MPs are voting on whether the legal age at which you can buy cigarettes should be increased by a year every year until it's effectively illegal.

It'll be happening when we're on air – and we'll bring you the result as they get it. Because something quite interesting is going on.

While this is a very popular policy with the public – and it's being backed by Labour – a lot of Conservative MPs are distinctively uncomfortable with it.

Freedom, according to them, includes the freedom to make bad choices as well as good ones. Banning things is simply un-conservative.

And we're going to be keeping a keen eye on the division lobbies too - because I've got a feeling that we could be seeing the next Conservative Party leadership contest play out tonight.

Who wants to burnish their freedom fighting credentials to the party faithful?

Penny Mordaunt? Kemi Badenoch? Suella Braverman?

Which division lobby will the next leader of the Conservative Party go down?

Watch Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge live on Sky News from 7pm.

Cabinet minister Kemi Badenoch has announced she will vote against Rishi Sunak's flagship legislation to ban smoking.

The business and trade secretary said in a statement on social media that while she thinks the PM's intentions are "honest", and praised him as a "leader who doesn't duck the thorny issues", she does not support his approach.

She wrote: "I have significant concerns and appreciate the PM making this a free vote. It gives me the opportunity to express my personal view, outside collective responsibility.

"The principle of equality under the law is a fundamental one. It underpins many of my personal beliefs.

"We should not treat legally competent adults differently in this way, where people born a day apart will have permanently different rights.

"Among other reasons, it will create difficulties with enforcement. This burden will fall not on the state but on private businesses.

"Smoking rates are already declining significantly in the UK and I think there is more we can do to stop children taking up the habit.

"However, I do not support the approach this bill is taking and so will be voting against it. "

During his statement to the House of Commons yesterday following Iran's attack on Israel this weekend, Rishi Sunak said he would be speaking to his Israel counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu "shortly".

But 24 hours later, that phone call has still not taken place.

A Number 10 spokeswoman said: "We are still discussing scheduling, working out with diaries."

She rejected the suggestion that the delay was "embarrassing" and made Britain "look weak on the world stage".

She told journalists: "I don't think so. I think we saw the UK participate in a coalition over the weekend.

"The prime minister has regularly spoken with Netanyahu. It does take time to schedule these with diaries, but there was a suggestion earlier this morning that that meant that the UK's view was not being relayed, or we hadn't had an opportunity to do that.

"That is obviously incorrect. Our position is very clear, it's the same as the US, and we obviously have contact with the Israeli government through many different channels."

The foreign secretary, Lord Cameron, spoke to his Israeli counterpart on Sunday following Iran's attack, and the head of the Israeli military spoke on the phone yesterday with Admiral Sir Antony David Radakin to thank him for the UK's assistance with repelling the attack.

Ex-PM Liz Truss has been talking to lots of media outlets in the last few days to promote her new book, which is published today.

She has made a number of... unusual assertions during these interviews, and one of those is that she "can't see a purpose for the United Nations as it stands".

Lord Cameron was asked about that particular comment when taking questions from peers in the House of Lords at the moment.

He replied: "I take the view that the United Nations has many problems and issues and the frustrations of dealing with the Security Council at the moment, when you've got a Russian veto and a Chinese veto, these frustrations are very great.

"But, nonetheless, it's important we have an international body where issues can be discussed, where countries can come together.

"Good work is done through the United Nations, in spite of the frustrations, so I can see a point of the United Nations."

Labour peer Lord Grocott then asked the foreign secretary: "Has he got a message to those of us who can't see a purpose of Liz Truss?"

The ex-PM did not comment on the comments by one of his successors directly.

Chelsea’s penalty row the latest episode in Stamford Bridge soap opera

Amid all the positivity after a 6-0 win over Everton, Chelsea’s lack of maturity is the story – and not for the first time this season

Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea argue over a penalty kick during the Premier League match between Chelsea FC and Everton FC at Stamford Bridge on April 15, 2024 in London, England

Usually when a team wins a game 6-0 , the scoreline is the biggest talking point of the match. Not for Chelsea.

After Monday night’s thrashing of Everton at Stamford Bridge, Mauricio Pochettino bemoaned his team’s lack of experience and leadership calling some of his players “kids” who “are like in a school” following an on-pitch squabble over who took a penalty when 4-0 up.

However, this is not the first time Chelsea’s players have shown a lack of maturity this season . Here, Telegraph Sport looks at five embarrassing moments in the Chelsea soap opera so far this season.

November 25, 2023: James second yellow card vs Newcastle

Having replaced the departed Cesar Azpilicueta as club captain at the start of the season, this was meant to be the campaign where Reece James stepped up as a leader for a young Chelsea side. This has not come to fruition, as the right-back has missed much of the season through injury.

But even when he has played, he has not always lived up to his leadership role. With Chelsea down by two away at Newcastle and James already on a booking, he foolishly tried to chip the ball over Anthony Gordon towards his own goal, only to lose out to the speedy winger in a footrace.

Chelsea's Reece James leaves the pitch after being shown a red card by referee Simon Hooper

James then pulled Gordon’s shirt, causing him to go down, and leaving the referee with no choice but to brandish a second yellow card. They would go on to suffer a 4-1 defeat.

February 4, 2024: Silva’s wife calls for Pochettino to be sacked

Chelsea have not only suffered embarrassing moments on the pitch this season, but also off it. Following a miserable 4-2 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, which came just days after a 4-1 thumping at Liverpool, Belle Silva, Thiago Silva’s wife, published an incendiary post on social media calling for Pochettino to be removed from his position.

It's time to change. If you wait any longer it will be too late 💙💙 — Belle Silva (@bellesilva) February 4, 2024

“It’s time to change. If you wait any longer it will be too late,” she wrote, in a post which has still not been deleted. After the post received traction and forced Silva himself to have a word with Pochettino, she eventually apologised three days later.

I'm sorry that my personal outburst as a passionate Chelsea fan has caused such an impact. I'm passionate about the team, I thrive on victories and I'm saddened by defeats. We all want the same thing, a winning team, come on Chelsea!!💙💙💙 — Belle Silva (@bellesilva) February 7, 2024

Given Silva’s seniority and role as one of the leaders in the team, this was not the sort of thing that would fill Chelsea fans with confidence about the dressing room.

March 17, 2024: Sterling and Palmer argue over penalty

Leading Leicester City 1-0 in the quarter-final of the FA Cup, Chelsea were awarded a penalty. Usual penalty-taker Cole Palmer, who had converted all five of his penalties in a Chelsea shirt up to that point, had the ball in his hands and was ready to take another. But Raheem Sterling decided he wanted to take the spot-kick, and after a brief discussion, Palmer reluctantly agreed.

Sterling then proceeded to produce one of the tamest efforts you will see all season, with the forward rolling his kick straight down the middle, proving no problem at all for Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk. The miss could have proved costly, with Leicester eventually tying the game at 2-2.

Later on, Chelsea received a free-kick in a promising spot at the edge of the box. With Palmer and Sterling standing over it, one would assume Sterling would hand over the responsibility to Chelsea’s young star. Instead, he again took it on himself, horrifically skying the free-kick wayward .

April 4, 2024: Madueke and Palmer argue over penalty

With Chelsea trailing 2-3 in the 10th minute of stoppage time at home to Manchester United, they were granted a lifeline, after being awarded a penalty.

Not again man 🤦‍♂️ 🚨Madueke tries to steal the ball off Palmer for the second penalty, but Gilchrist, Chalobah and Badiashile had to take him away. Genuinely don't understand these players man. Always let Palmer take it. pic.twitter.com/qBffJ6F04E — Finestt ~ FPL (@CFC_Finestt) April 6, 2024

As expected, Palmer stepped up to take it but was then confronted by Noni Madueke who appeared to want to take the spot-kick himself. Palmer clung onto the ball, before various Chelsea players stepped in to physically drag Madueke away from the scene.

April 15, 2024: Madueke and Jackson squabble over penalty

Arguably Chelsea’s most petulant, embarrassing moment of the season came in the 6-0 rout over Everton. With Palmer already on a hat-trick, he was keen to take the penalty. However, some of his team-mates had other ideas, and stepped in to take the ball from him.

😳😳😳 pic.twitter.com/qCP4uALalE — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) April 15, 2024

Madueke then held it and would not give it back to Palmer, as Chelsea’s top scorer demanded him to hand it over. Captain Conor Gallagher stepped in to diffuse the situation and eventually got the ball to Palmer, only for Nicolas Jackson to join the fray. Jackson tried to grab the ball back before Palmer physically shoved him away, before dispatching the penalty.
