November 19 2020 – Mike Yarbrough

wedding ring box for couple's wedding ring set

Wedding rings are some of the most significant objects you will ever own. Sure, the aesthetics matter (we know how essential good wedding ring photos are), but so does keeping the rings safe. If you want the presentation to be as meaningful as the rings themselves, treating them with care and keeping them secure until your wedding day is of the utmost importance.

We've been creating one-of-a-kind wedding rings for a while now, and we have a few thoughts on how to keep your rings safe, secure and aesthetically pleasing. Consider these wedding ring presentation ideas leading up to your big day!

How to Present the Rings

The wedding ring presentation can (and should) be as personal and unique as the rings you buy, another part of your love story. While many ring holders are used to keep your rings safe right up until you say "I do," you may also want to use them after the wedding. They can come in handy for those times when you'll need to temporarily take off your rings and keep them safely tucked away until it's time to put them back on.

Wedding Ring Boxes

The options for wedding ring boxes are only limited by your imagination. The box your ring comes in will certainly do the job, but you can also choose something more stylish and distinctive. Wooden ring boxes are a great choice to pair with a handmade rustic wedding ring, and you can find them hand-carved and finished in beautiful hardwoods like walnut, cherry or maple. Adding a monogram, imprint or carving to the box makes it even more personal.

Ring Wallets

Ring wallets are a great way to keep your rings safe and secure, and carry them with you anywhere you go. Our leather ring wallets are handmade in the USA using the highest quality leather and antiqued brass adornments. Good leather develops its own unique patina and warm glow as it ages -- a beautiful metaphor considering the way love becomes deeper and richer with time.

Ring Pillows

Ring pillows don't quite offer the security that would make them a good place to keep your rings long-term. However, there are many beautiful styles of ring pillows, ranging from the rustic to the ornate, that make for a great ring presentation on your wedding day. Choose one that includes ribbons or twine to secure the ring to the pillow. It's also possible to get smaller ring pillows that could fit inside a custom ring box or basket.

Who Presents the Rings?

While there are no firm rules regarding who hangs onto your wedding rings on the big day, there are a few traditional options.

The Best Man or Maid of Honor

In many traditional weddings, the best man is in charge of holding both the rings right up until the wedding ceremony. You could also choose to have the maid of honor and the best man each hold a ring, or designate different members of the wedding party. Either way, the person(s) holding the rings will be right there by your side when the moment arrives.

The Officiant

Having the officiant hold the rings is another possibility. Doing so makes for a simple and seamless transition, as they'll be presiding over the ceremony and can easily present the ring to the right person when the time comes to say your vows and make the wedding ring exchange .

A Designated Ring Bearer

You can pick anybody, really, and ask them to act as a ring bearer. This can be a lovely way to give a special job to a special person -- especially a family member like a parent, grandparent or sibling. Having someone dear to you both hold the rings until the big moment can add an extra layer of meaning to your wedding.

Children and Pets

Some couples choose to have kids act as ring bearers, while others attach a ring pillow to a beloved canine or feline and have them bring the rings down the aisle. It goes without saying that this can be an adorable choice, but make sure that any youngster you assign this task to has the necessary maturity level. If you choose a four-legged friend , make sure they are very well trained, and make sure that pillow is secure! A younger child can be escorted by a family member and a pet can be walked on a leash to avoid a disastrous (albeit most likely humorous) runaway puppy and rings.

Perfect Your Ring Exchange Wording With These Examples

Ring exchange wording: A groom puts a ring on a bride's finger

The ring exchange: It’s the moment in your wedding ceremony where all those promises and dedications you make are symbolized in a physical form. For many couples this is one of the most special moments of the ceremony.

You might be familiar with the “With this ring, I thee wed” or “Take this ring as a symbol of my love” script and think that’s all there is to it. But, like with almost every aspect of your wedding including your wedding invitations , you’re free to choose your own words for this magical part of the proceedings.

Whether you’re looking for something traditional to say as you exchange rings or you want to make a modern statement, we’ve got plenty of ring exchange wording samples to inspire you.

Traditional Ring Exchange Wording

Traditional ring exchange wording often features words like cherish, devotion, and faith. They’re phrases centred around long-held views on marriage and the symbolism of the wedding ring, and filled with powerful words that evoke emotion. To get you thinking about your own ring exchange wording, here are some traditional promises and phrases for your “I do” moment.

  • “I give you this ring as a symbol of my everlasting love for you.”
  • “I give you this ring as a sign of our love for and commitment to each other. I promise to support you, care for you, and stand alongside you for all of our days.”
  • “I offer you this ring to wear as a symbol of our unbreakable bond. It is a reminder of my eternal faith and unwavering dedication. I will cherish you forever more.”
  • “This ring is symbolic of my never ending commitment, love, and devotion to you.”
  • “I give you this ring as a sign of my faithful devotion. I will always love you, cherish you, and honor the vows spoken here today.”
  • “This ring is a token of my love. I offer you all that I have, all that I am, and all that I will be.”
  • “I give you this ring as a symbol of my faith in our united strength. It shines as brightly as my undying love for you.”
  • “This beautifully crafted ring is an outward reminder of our inner unity, a bond which is stronger than any obstacle.”
  • “Let this ring always be a reminder of my promises to you and the unwavering bond between us.”
  • “Take this ring as a symbol of my vow to you. I’ll be your faithful partner forevermore.”
  • “I give you this ring as a sign of my love. With all that I have, I am honored to call you my husband/wife from this moment until forever.”
  • “With this ring, I vow to love and honor you from this moment forward.”
  • “This ring is a symbol of my eternal love. May our everlasting friendship reign forevermore.”

Modern Ring Exchange Wording

Ring exchange wording: A officiant puts a ring on a bride's finger

If you’re looking for a more simple or modern alternative for your wedding ceremony, there are plenty of less traditional options. The wording of these feels more relaxed, with phrases that explore the nuances of exchanging wedding bands in a fresh way. Here are some of our favorite modern ring exchange wording samples for you to borrow or recreate in your own way.

  • “This ring is a token of my love for you. I am yours, today and forever.”
  • “I give you this ring as a reminder that we face this world together. We’re an unbreakable team.”
  • “I give you this ring as a gift that lasts forever. Know that I’m always with you, behind you, and by your side.”
  • “With this ring, we forge a new path on our adventure together. I love you, always, as my best friend.”
  • “I give you this ring as a reminder of today and all our hopes and dreams for the future.”
  • “This ring is almost as beautiful as your smile. Let’s embark on this new journey together and live life by each other’s side.”
  • “You are the love of my life. With this ring, I’m making it official.”
  • “I give you this ring as a way of showing just how much I love you. I’m delighted to call you my husband/wife and spend the rest of our days together.”
  • “With this ring, you’ll have a reminder close by that you’re always in my heart.”

Your Ring Exchange Questions Answered

With so much to think about when planning your wedding, it’s completely normal to have lots of questions about the ceremony. Here are some of the most asked questions about the exchange of rings wording and traditions, with our answers to help guide you along the way.

Who Goes First in the Ring Exchange?

Traditionally, the groom will go first when it comes to exchanging rings. That doesn’t have to be the case though. Feel free to choose the order that works best for you as a couple. If one of you is more nervous in front of an audience  than the other, it might help if the more confident partner goes first. As most ring exchange wording stays the same for both partners, you can decide on what you’d both like to say and figure out who speaks first as you get closer to your wedding date.

What is the Difference Between the Vows and the Ring Exchange?

With the ring exchange following the vows in most wedding ceremonies, it can be tricky to figure out the differences between the two.

The wedding vows are the promises you and your partner make to each other. It’s where you declare your love and commitment, surrounded by close friends and family. The ring exchange follows. This is when the officiant will ask you to place the ring on your loved one’s finger and recite your chosen words.

Some couples choose to include the ring exchange within their vows, so there’s little distinction between the two moments. Others may choose not to speak at all during the exchanging of rings. It’s up to you how you’d like the ceremony to go.

Can I Write My Own Words?

It’s your wedding and a celebration of the love between you and your partner, so absolutely feel free to write your own ring exchange wording. If the two of you are writing your own vows, having personalized ring exchange wording helps the ceremony flow nicely from one moment to the next.

Most ring exchange vows only last for a minute or two each, so there’s no pressure to write something lengthy. Instead, find a way to honor the moment with words that match your personality, style, and sense of humor. And if you don’t want to create your own wording from scratch, you can always personalize one of the traditional or modern examples given here.

What Happens After the Ring Exchange?

While you can customize your wedding ceremony timeline , the ring exchange typically takes place after your wedding vows and before the pronouncement. That’s where the officiant pronounces you as the newly married couple. You’ll often hear words like “I now pronounce you husband/wife and husband/wife.”

If it’s a religious ceremony, there’s often a set phrase that marks the end of the ring exchange. For example, Catholic ceremonies may end with “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I now pronounce you husband/wife and husband/wife.”

Whether you opt for a traditional, modern, or religious ceremony, there’s comfort in knowing that right after the ring exchange, everything is official, and you’ll be able to relax and celebrate the moment with loved ones.

Words to Inspire You

Your ring exchange is a visual reminder of the vows you and your loved one make to each other on your wedding day. For a moment so memorable, it can be hard to find the right words. Luckily those who have walked the aisle before us have offered up plenty of ideas on how to make the most of this part of the ceremony.

We hope this guide on ring exchange wording has helped you find inspiration for your own ceremony. Whether you borrow an idea from this list or head in a new direction, you’ll soon find the perfect words to accompany the moment when you exchange rings with your husband or wife to be.

Traditional wedding ceremony script with rings exchange.

By Glen Yoshioka

Two gold wedding rings are placed in the spine of a book, waiting for the ring exchange ceremony.

This traditional wedding ceremony script includes a detailed rings exchange. This ceremony script can easily be adapted for both religious and non-religious ceremonies with a few easy edits.

PROCESSIONAL

Formal processionals are integral to traditional marriage ceremonies. This iconic part of the ceremony is characterized by the song "Here Comes the Bride" accompanied by the bride and wedding party walking up the aisle.

This traditional processional observes the rite of the "Giving of the Bride", where the bride is accompanied by her father as she walks down the aisle.

The steps below block out each action during this traditional procession:

  • Before the guests enter, the officiant and groom(PARTNER A) IS ALREADY STANDING ON THE WEDDING STAGE. PLAYING SOME LIGHT MUSIC IS A GREAT WAY TO SIGNAL TO PEOPLE  THAT THE CEREMONY IS ABOUT TO BEGIN.
  • THE GUESTS BEGIN TO ENTER. THE ELDERS ARE SEATED FIRST, ASSISTED BY OTHER GUESTS. AS THE OFFICIANT, YOU CAN HELP DIRECT PEOPLE TO THEIR SEATS WITH EYE CONTACT AND, NODDING AND POINTING.
  • ONCE ALL THE GUESTS ARE SEATED the dj or  sound person stops the music to que people into stillness.
  • Once everyone is silent, the "Procession song" is played. Traditionally this is "Here comes the bride" but it can be any song of the couple's choosing.
  • The Wedding party enters. The choreography will be blocked out beforehand. The order below follows a traditional processional order.

TRADITIONAL PROCESSIONAL ENTRANCE

  • The brides maids and grooms men enter, parntered up, hand in hand.
  • They walk onto the wedding stage and go to their pre-assigned places behind the officiant. All the bridesmaids on one side and the grooms men on the other.
  • The BRide enters, accompanied by her father (or other significant guardian).
  • The bride walks onto the stage to face the groom. her father takes his seat in the front row.
  • The music stops and the officiant waits a beat for everyone to sit in stillness.

How to Write Moving Ring Exchange Vows for Your Wedding Ceremony

We have expert tips, samples, and more.

presentation of wedding rings

Wedding ring vows are the statement you make while presenting your ring to your beloved. The best wedding ring vows are short and meaningful, but if you need a bit of help personalizing or writing them, we’ve got all the advice and samples you need.

What Is a Ring Exchange?

A ring exchange is a symbol of the commitment two people make to each other on their wedding day. Couples can exchange rings as part of their wedding vows, in which case, no ring vows are needed, or they may have a separate wedding ring exchange following the wedding vows.

From ancient times to the not-so-distant past , if a ring presentation was part of a wedding ceremony, there was only one ring and the groom gave it to the bride. Today it’s common to have an exchange of two rings between the couple, often called a double-ring ceremony. A religious ceremony performed by a priest or minister may not allow for any changes to the script used in the sacrament or rite of marriage. But, if you are having a non-denominational or a civil ceremony, in most instances, you may write your wedding ring vows if you wish.

Meet the Expert

Michelle M. Winner is an ordained non-denominal wedding minister who has officiated hundreds of weddings over 20 years. Her specialty is writing custom ceremonies that reflect the couple's unique personalities and beliefs.

Here's how to write your ring exchange vows along with a few tips and questions to help you get started.

Ring Exchange Vow Template

Start by expressing your joy.

You just made your commitment, so consider including what your ring symbolizes to you.

Look to a Quote or a Poem

There is lots of leeway with regards to style for these vows, and they don't have to be original. Inspiring quotes from your favorite figures could offer inspiration as well.

Ask Your Officiant to Offer a Few Words

You may also have a blessing of the rings before the exchange if you wish. Many Christians like to have their rings blessed on a Bible. If the officiant is blessing your wedding bands as part of the ceremony, you may also have your engagement ring blessed at the same time. Both the engagement ring and wedding ring will be placed on the hand together during the ring exchange.

Tell Your Partner You Love Them

On your wedding day, the words "I love you" can never be said enough.

Ring Exchange Vow Tips

Consider the length.

The vows should be one to three sentences in length. You've already said your wedding vows , so ring vows are just the icing on the cake, the exclamation point, the symbolic seal to your wedding vows. The classic, “With this ring, I thee wed," says it all.

Practice Beforehand

Unless you memorize your vows, you'll be repeating them after the minister. Your hands will be busy putting a ring on your cherished one’s finger so you can’t hold a piece of paper with your vows on it. That's why it's important to practice and memorize them.

Don't Worry About What Your Partner Will Say

Your ring vow doesn’t have to be the same as your partner’s. The beauty is that you each express your feelings for one another in your own words.

Engrave Them As a Keepsake

A phrase from your ring vows may be engraved inside your rings to preserve the moment you exchanged your wedding ring vows, forever.

It’s adorable to have a child or your fur baby walk down the aisle with your ring pillow—it’s just not a great idea to have them hold your rings. Tie two ornamental rings to the ring pillow and have your best man or other adult be responsible for the real wedding bands.

Answer These Questions to Get Started

Getting started is often the hardest part. Here are some thought-provoking questions to ask yourself:

  • What does your wedding ring mean to you?
  • When did you realize your partner was the one?
  • How will you show your commitment throughout your marriage?
  • What promises do you want to make to your partner?

Ring Exchange Vow Examples to Make Your Own

Here, we've gathered examples of ring vows to inspire you to write your own . Most are vows for a separate wedding ring exchange following your wedding vows while others are wedding vows which include exchanging rings.

Please accept this ring as a symbol of my eternal love for you. I will follow you anywhere and everywhere you go. Hand in hand and heart to heart.

“I give you this simple gold ring I have made by my own hands. Shaped by my dreams and honest desires, of many hours spent late into the night, I endured. And now to see it on your hand here today as God and the angels surround us makes me the happiest man/woman/person in the world.”

“With this ring, I ask you to be my (wife/husband/partner), to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish you, for time and all eternity.”

To the one who shares my life, my love, and my dreams, I give you this ring with pride and joy. As a ring has no end, neither shall my love for you.

"As we stand here in this blessed space and enter into a more sacred love, I give you this ring and, with it, all of my heart. With total commitment, I give myself to you and promise you my trust, my devotion, my compassion, and my love.”

Presenting the Wedding Rings

When you walk down the aisle, you have one thing on your mind. You are there to wed the person that you love and cherish. The last thing on your mind is where the wedding rings are until the official asks for the rings.

Since you have many options for whose has the wedding rings, you have less to worry about and more time to worry about saying your vows right. You can have the best man hold the rings or a miniature groom. The rings can be displayed on a satin pillow secured with a ribbon or maybe, you do want to keep your own rings.

Miniature Groom

Many couples want a miniature bride and groom. The girl usually throws petals out as the two walk down the aisle, while the boy will carry a pillow with the wedding rings secured by a ribbon. The miniature bride and grooms are so cute and add something to the wedding.

If you have wedding rings, you can have the miniature groom in charge of the rings. There are many different ways to display the rings when you use a little groom for this task. The miniature bride and groom will be by your side through the entire ceremony.

Best Man or Groom

If you think that the miniature bride and groom should only be for show, than you may want the best man to carry the rings. The best man can keep the rings in his pocket until he is asked for them. This is common for weddings that have no miniature bride and groom as well.

Sometimes, the groom will keep his and her rings in his pocket as well, but this is only in small weddings. You can choose which way will work the best for you. Before you make a choice, you should know the different ways the wedding rings can be displayed.

The Display of the Rings

Displaying the wedding rings until the official asks for them can be done in many different ways. The most common way to display the rings is on a white satin pillow with a white ribbon holding them in place. This would be the pillow that the miniature groom would carry. Another way to display the rings is in a velvet case or in a velvet bag. Many couples have used the miniature bride with a velvet pouch to carry the rings. Since it is your wedding and your rings, you can choose the best way to present the rings until they are asked for.

The wedding rings are an important part of the ceremony and you do not want anything to happen to them while you wait to give them to each other. You can use the miniature bride or groom, the best man or the groom to keep the rings safe. You can display the rings on a pillow, keep them private in a velvet box, or pouch until you are ready to give them to each other after you say your vows.

How To Present Ring When Proposing: Step by Step

Michael Bold

One of the most important parts of any relationship is the proposal. You’re showing that you want to be committed to this person for the rest of your life. Maybe you do this by surprise (we’re always a fan) or it’s something you just discuss over coffee. There’s still one aspect you need to get right and that’s how to present the ring when proposing.

There’s a multitude of possibilities. Maybe you’re a creative type who has something truly spectacular planned. Perhaps you present the ring on stage at a Taylor Swift concert (always a high-risk strategy) with weeks of planning or maybe you take your beloved away for the weekend to a romantic location. Getting the presentation of the ring right will be something that stays with you and your partner forever.

How do we know so much about the best ways to present the ring when proposing? Well, over the years we’ve been hired to capture this special moment for wonderful couples. We’re often booked by the proposer and work covertly to document this special moment.

How To Present Ring When Proposing?

It’s always really exciting and we love feeling like private investigators for a few hours. We’ve seen some great ways of presenting the ring when proposing and we’d love to share some of them with you.

In this article, we’ll take you through the steps for the perfect proposal, tell you about some of our favorite methods and answer some frequently asked questions about how to present the ring.

What is a Proposal?

You’ve probably seen your fair share of viral proposals on YouTube and TikTok, right?

Simply put, a proposal is your opportunity to ask your partner if they’ll marry you. If they say yes, congratulations! You’re getting married. Let’s not talk about the other possibility…

Some people who propose like to honor tradition and ask their partner’s parents’ permission. This is becoming a little old-fashioned but we think it’s a nice touch to inform them of your intentions. Letting them know can also help you with the organization if you have anything elaborate planned.

The proposal is traditionally performed by the groom but there are no rules here and anyone can pop the question. The proposer will typically purchase a ring and plan to pop the question when they find the perfect opportunity.

Steps to Traditionally Presenting the Ring When Proposing

In our opinion, there are some key elements that every proposal needs. Hit these points and you shouldn’t fail to make a lasting memory for you and your partner as you present the ring.

Get down on one knee

Classic, isn’t it? It’s what every good presentation of the ring needs.

This is the way proposals have been done for years. It shows your partner respect and also puts you in a very vulnerable position.

Getting down on one knee also makes this a very formal moment. It forces you both to stop and stand still for a second. This is great to capture on camera and we love to see it!

Tell them what they mean to you

Once you’re down on one knee it’s your opportunity to tell your partner what they mean to you. Tell them what you love about them, how they make you feel, and why you want to spend the rest of your life with them.

At this point, they’re sure to know what’s going on and might be overcome with emotions.

You can either write these words out or try to memorize them. In our opinion going freestyle is a little risky as the emotion might get the better of you.

Ask them to marry you

After your preamble, it’s time to ask the main question. For example, “Jane Ellis Darby, will you marry me”

Place the ring on their finger

At some point, between those first three steps, you will have got the ring out and presented it to your partner. Now it’s time to place that ring on the fourth finger of their left hand.

Whether it fits or not will depend on whether you’ve done some prior research into their size. Try to maintain eye contact as this will further enhance the moment.

Hopefully, they say yes! Now’s the perfect time to have a big old hug, a smooch, and a hug spin. Whatever takes your fancy.

Creative Ways to Present the Ring When Proposing

You can’t really go wrong with the tried and tested traditional way of proposing.

However, if you’re looking for a little more creative way of presenting the ring when proposing we’ve got your back.

This can be the first step to your partner discovering the ring and realizing what’s going on.

You can then combine this reveal with the traditional way of popping the question.

Fortune Cookie

Placing the engagement ring inside a fortune cookie will be the ultimate surprise for your partner. It’s also a great excuse to eat Chinese food! Win win!

One note of caution is that it might be best to bring your own fortune cookies. You don’t want yours containing the ring to get mixed up with all the others.

Additionally, make sure your partner likes fortune cookies. You don’t want to make it too obvious by insisting they crack one open.

Treasure Hunt

Step up your ring presentation by organizing a treasure hunt. This is something you could do around your own home or at meaningful locations.

Once your partner finds the ring you can then ask them the all-important question.

This is something you could leave with them on the weekend or something you do together. If choosing the first option you could be waiting at the X on the map on one knee with the ring.

In a Bouquet

A classic way to present the wedding ring when proposing is by including it in a bouquet of flowers.

This can be especially good if you regularly get your partner flowers anyway. Therefore the addition of the engagement ring will come as a huge shock.

This is such a subtle way of presenting the ring in our opinion but one of the most effective.

The pet and ring combo

One of the other biggest commitments a couple can make to each other is getting a pet. If your partner has always dreamed you’d both get a puppy then why not combine the two?

Your partner will be so surprised and overwhelmed they might not even notice the ring you’ve subtly attached to the dog’s collar.

Let them discover this for themselves and then watch for their reaction. This will be well worth it!

By surprising your partner with a pet and an engagement ring you’ll demonstrate your commitment. And who can say no to those puppy dog eyes?!

On the Water

Provided you and your partner have good sea legs this can be the perfect romantic spot.

For added flair try to combine it with a sunset to really amp up the drama.

You could either look to hire a row boat so it’s just the two of you or you could have someone sail you around the sights at your favorite location.

A very high risk maneuver would be to have already placed the ring at the end of a fishing line that you then casually reel in. Your partner will be flabbergasted until they realize what’s going on.

Fruit Picking

For those nature lovers out there we’ve got you covered. Arrange this with a local fruit farmer in advance so that you can ensure some privacy.

Suggest to your partner that you want to go fruit picking at the weekend. Beforehand place the ring on a stem or have it dangling on a string from a tree. Casually make your way over and let them discover the ring for themselves.

As they turn around to tell you what they’ve found in the tree you can then pop onto one knee.

In a Box of Chocolates

Timeless and classic, much like the bouquet but still highly effective. Make sure your partner is a chocoholic of course so that they won’t refuse the offer of a sweet treat.

“Hey Jane, do you want a chocolate?” “Yeah sure” she says. You open the box of chocolates only to reveal the engagement ring occupying the center stage.

With this method, there’s also the added bonus of chocolate afterward!

Think outside the box with the box

The wedding ring you purchase from the jewelers will likely come in its own box. However, this can sometimes be generic or display the branding of the jewelry or the ring.

Instead, we think it’s a great idea to look for something a little more personal.

We love custom wooden boxes with your initials engraved onto the lid. This is a great keepsake to remind you both of the proposal.

At the same time, your partner can also use it to store other jewelry or it can be used on your wedding day. It’s just an added touch to your ring presentation that takes it to the next level.

The classic tied up method

Keeping it simple is sometimes the best way to present the ring when proposing. Maybe you could use a ribbon to tie the ring to a teddy bear or balloon. Or, another option is to tie the ring to a bottle of champagne or a champagne glass.

If you’re planning on doing this at a restaurant you should pick somewhere that you trust implicitly. Engagement rings cost a lot of money so you don’t want it going missing because you trusted the wrong people.

The obvious bonus of choosing the champagne over the teddy bear is the option to pop the cork and celebrate afterward.

Drone Delivery

For a real element of surprise, you could arrange with your friends to deliver and present the ring via a drone.

You and your partner could be out for a romantic stroll in the park. Your friend could fly the drone to you both. Obviously, you look shocked not letting on that you’ve planned this meticulously. Your partner investigates, picks off the ring, and hey presto!

The added bonus of this method is that you could also film the action from the drone. This will be a great video to share with the kids in years to come!

Nestled in a Book

Does your partner love to read before going to bed? Think about placing the ring on the same page as their bookmark. That way when they come to open the book the ring will fall out.

Equally, you could place the ring in an envelope with a note inside. This is particularly good if you’re better at writing down your thoughts rather than saying them out loud.

Perfect for a beach proposal is to present the ring in a seashell. As you’re wandering along the shoreline, pretend to bend down and say something like “Hey come and look at this interesting shell”.

Your partner will never suspect that on the other side of the shell you’ve housed the engagement ring. The beach is always a beautiful and romantic spot anyway but this will be a memory you can cherish forever.

Location, Location, Location

As they say on all the real estate programs it’s all about location, location, location. The same is true for where you decide to present the ring when proposing.

Whether you pick somewhere you both love or someplace completely new make sure that it’s the perfect spot.

Somewhere that you both love will hold significance. Maybe it’s the place you went for your first date or somewhere you had a particularly nice meal.

Equally, if you can find the ideal new location to present the ring that becomes its own important place in itself. Maybe your partner likes hiking. Well, investigate a new and epic place you can go to together. That’ll become known as the place you presented the ring.

You should also think about timing when picking your location. In our opinion, you should choose somewhere nice and quiet without lots of people. You should also choose your moment to present the ring at sunset time. This will just add to the overall majesty of the event and memories.

If you don’t think you can achieve some of the suggestions on our list alone it might be an idea to hire a pro. A proposal planner will have years of experience and contacts that can help you present the ring in the best way.

They’ll usually take care of all the logistics of the proposal, leaving it up to you to just bring the ring and your partner to a specific spot.

We’ve worked with loads of proposal planners over the years and they always create spectacular events.

Hire a Photographer

If you want to immortalize the presentation of the ring to your partner forever why not hire a photographer? Wedding photographers love to capture this special moment between two individuals. It also gives you a chance to sample their work before hiring them for your big day.

This will of course be an additional cost but one that’s well worth it in our opinion. Having photos to show your grandkids of the moment you popped the question are priceless in our opinion.

You’ll of course have to let them know of your location and plan well ahead of time and keep them constantly informed.

FAQ about How to Present a Ring When Proposing

What knee do you propose on.

Like the whole proposal in general there are no rules here.

The way most people do it is with their left knee on the floor as they hold the ring box with both hands and slowly reveal the ring.

However, if you’re more comfortable with your right knee on the floor you won’t be arrested by the proposal police. So do whatever suits you best.

What do you say when presenting an engagement ring?

What you say when presenting the ring will be individual to each couple.

You could draw on your past as a couple and how far you’ve come. You can keep it short and sweet or make a long impassioned speech.

Ultimately though we think you should make sure to tell your partner what they mean to you.

Also, tell them how you want to spend the rest of your life together and then ask them to marry you.

A bonus tip if you’re liable to a good old cry. Bring some tissues with you for you and your partner.

Do you present both rings when proposing?

There is a difference between an engagement and a wedding ring so it’s not the norm to present them at the same time.

However, if you’ve talked about marriage for a while and even picked out the rings together this could be the way to go.

The engagement ring is usually a surprise that one partner buys in secret. For that reason, we think it’s best to just present this ring when proposing.

Do you show the engagement ring before proposing?

Similar to the above question it will rely heavily on whether the other partner knows your intentions to propose. Otherwise, it somewhat ruins the element of surprise.

A bonus of showing your partner the ring is that you can check that it fits ahead of time .

Do you put the ring on while kneeling?

Yes. This is how most people do it. However, as we’ve kept saying there are no rules so you just do you.

The benefit of doing it in this way is that it makes more of an event of the proposal.

It also shows respect to your partner and will force you to slow down. This is the iconic moment that your photographer will be looking to capture if you’ve hired one.

Afterward, you can get up and have a big hug and a smooch.

To Wrap It Up

As you will no doubt already realize, proposing to your partner requires a lot of planning.

The way you present the ring when proposing can be so varied and will ultimately come down to personal preference.

At the same time, it gives you an opportunity to get creative and really impress your partner with your attention to detail.

We hope this article has inspired you to think outside the box. Make the way you present the ring when proposing a unique experience for the two of you and you can’t go wrong.

Our advice is to still use the foolproof traditional technique that we discussed at the start of the article. However, we think you should combine it with a creative way of revealing the ring for that added bit of flair.

Officiate With This Perfect 10-Part Wedding Ceremony Script

So you need to write a wedding ceremony script and officiate a wedding . Instead of grabbing a canned pre-written sample from one of the 695,691 webpages out there, start with the 10-part wedding ceremony script outline I use every weekend instead.

A canned script is restrictive right out of the gate. It says, “I’m not really sure what I’m doing.” When we use a wedding ceremony script outline , it communicates to our couple that we’re structured and flexible. The process ends up being way more collaborative, and the finished script ends up being way more personal.

It’s the difference between “Hey, I bought this cake. Now eat it,” and “Hey, let’s make a cake!” Or… something.

Call up your couple, sit down with them for an hour over a drink, and brainstorm through this standard 10-part wedding ceremony script outline. Talk over the personal elements they might want to add. I’ve included some of the most common variations when relevant so you can discuss some options.

Here is the ceremony script outline I start with for 100% of the weddings I officiate.

1. Officiant Opening Remarks

The wedding officiant takes the front with Partner 1 and Partner 1’s party (down the aisle or from the side), and then the officiant makes some brief opening remarks.

  • Welcome the guests.
  • Announce whether photos are allowed.
  • Ask guests to please turn phones to silent.
  • “With that, let’s begin!” That’s the cue for the processional.

Variations:

  • After the officiant and Partner 1 and Partner 1’s party enter, maybe some grandparents or other important family members enter and are seated in the front row before the officiant speaks.
  • If Partner 1 and his/her party are part of the processional, the officiant can enter alone and make the opening remarks alone before anyone else enters.

2. The Processional

The music starts, and the wedding processional begins.

  • Ring boys and/or flower girls and/or junior bridesmaids enter.
  • Partner 2’s party enters in single file.
  • The officiant asks guests, “Please stand for [Partner 2] as you’re able.”
  • Partner 2 enters with parent(s), walk the aisle, and stop at the front row.
  • Partner 1 steps forward to receive Partner 2 at front row.
  • Partners and parents exchange handshakes, hugs, and kisses with parent(s).
  • Partner 1 and Partner 2 stand in front of the officiant, facing each other holding hands.
  • The officiant invites guests to be seated.
  • Sometimes when Partner 2 and his/her escort arrive at the front row, the music fades and the officiant asks who gives Partner 2 away or who supports this union. Partner 2’s escort answers, “I do.”
  • The ring boys and/or flower girls and/or junior bridesmaids can enter either first in the processional or just before Partner 2.

3. The Officiant’s Speech

What makes today so important in the life of this couple? It’s the promises they are making to always be there for each other (“vows”) in front of their closest friends and family. Here’s where the officiant says some things about that.

Some suggestions for what to say:

  • share a story about the couple,
  • read a poem or excerpt from a book that is meaningful to the couple,
  • say something deep and philosophical about commitment and faithfulness,
  • add some prayers or blessings from the couple’s religious tradition.

Be creative, respectful, and remember everyone there wants to have fun and be engaged! (Well, except the couple. They don’t wanna be engaged anymore. Heh. See what I did there…? Ohhhkay.)

We may be legally required to say a couple of things in the ceremony, and I like to add them to the end of the speech. A couple of those things might be:

  • “If anyone knows of any legal reason why these two may not be married today, please speak now.”
  • “[Partner 1] and [Partner 2], do you stand here today to give yourselves to each other in marriage.”

How do we know if we have to include these things in the ceremony? Google up on the laws in your state or province.

4. The Exchange of Vows

This is when the couple makes promises to each other. It’s kinda the biggest part of the day. No pressure.

Have no fear! See my two blog posts on the three ways to say wedding vows and my curated list of favourite wedding vows.

5. The Exchange of Rings

The Best Man is usually holding both rings. The officiant states that the couple will now exchange rings as a physical symbol of the promises they’re making today.

  • The Best Man gives Partner 2’s ring to Partner 1.
  • Partner 1 slides the ring on Partner 2’s finger.
  • The officiant asks Partner 1 to repeat a few lines about giving this ring as a symbol and a reminder of his/her commitment (i.e. “I give you this ring/as a sign of my commitment to you.”).
  • The Best Man gives Partner 1’s ring to the officiant. (So that he doesn’t have to cut across the front.)
  • The officiant gives the ring to Partner 2.
  • Partner 2 slides the ring on Partner 1’s finger.
  • The officiant asks Partner 2 to repeat a few lines about giving this ring as a symbol and a reminder of his/her commitment (i.e. “I give you this ring/as a sign of my commitment to you.”).

6. Pronouncing the Couple as Married

“Well now, in front of your closest friends and family (and by the authority given be by the province/state of _________ ), I pronounce you husband and wife/married! [Partner 1], you may kiss [Partner 2]!”

  • Some officiants put this element after the signing, but I like to put it before. That way, everyone has clapped and cheered and the signing is more relaxed with a party-like atmosphere, rather than stiffer and more ceremonial.

7. Signing the Legal Documents

Is this a legal ceremony? The officiant tells the guests that the couple is going to sign some papers and we will all be back in just a few minutes.

  • Music starts.
  • If the officiant is legalizing the ceremony (or someone else in attendance is doing that), head over to the table and sign with the required number of witnesses (usually the Best Man and Maid of Honour).
  • When finished, everyone comes back to the centre as before and the officiant gets ready to make some closing remarks.
  • Sometimes the couple opts to do this in private with the witnesses before or after the ceremony.
  • Some countries do this before or after the ceremony, so you can leave this out if it’s not customary where you’re from.

8. Officiant Closing Remarks

This is mostly practical, next-steps stuff. The officiant tells the guests 1) what the couple is doing next, 2) what the guests need to do next, and 3) thank you for coming. For example:

  • “[Partner 1] and [Partner 2] are heading out briefly for photos and will rejoin us shortly,”
  • “In the meantime, you are all invited out to the terrace where drinks and refreshments will be served, with the reception to follow shortly after.”
  • “On behalf of the happy couple, thanks for coming and have a wonderful evening!”

9. Presentation of the Couple

Here’s where the couple gets officially presented to everyone for the first time. This is what I typically say:

  • “Finally, stand with me now; it is my distinct honour to present to you for the first time: _______ and _______ as husband and wife/married!” or an alternative (i.e. “Mr. and Mrs. _______!”).

10. The Recessional

  • The recessional music starts immediately.
  • The couple heads up the aisle.
  • When the couple has cleared the aisle completely (no photo-bombing and traffic jams!), the two wedding parties follow in pairs, linking arms and starting with Best Man and Maid of Honour.
  • The officiant goes to Partner 2’s family, offers congratulations, and motions them to exit up the aisle.
  • The officiant goes to Partner 1’s family, offers congratulations, and motions them to exit up the aisle.
  • Finally, the officiant stands and motions the subsequent second rows to exit.

There you have it!

Now, one thing to note here at the end. This is a standard 10-part wedding ceremony outline. Our couple may expand it out to 22 parts or 648 parts by adding readings or rituals involving multiple family members, fire, sand, doves, F-18 flyovers, clowns, alcohol, etc.

Just go with it! And remember: it’s not our job to coordinate all the minute details like bringing all the candles and birdcages! Our role as Officiant is to facilitate and accommodate what they want their ceremony to look like and make the space for it to happen. Use my standard 10-part ceremony script outline as a starting point, and craft any style of perfect wedding ceremony from there.

If you feel you need more help, I offer a full wedding script + 1-on-1 coaching service here , and a full wedding officiating course called Unboring!Wedding Academy here.

11 Memorable Wedding Presentation Ideas & Examples

  • by Marisa Jenkins
  • October 31, 2023

Beyond just solemnizing your relationship, weddings are all about gathering the people you value and celebrating with them. Couples are becoming more unique and technologically savvy with how they keep their guests engaged — including wedding presentations.

Wedding presentations are electronic slideshows that feature pictures and videos of the couple. Unforgettable content in a presentation at a wedding may come from yearbook photos, interviews with loved ones, bloopers from engagement photo shoots, and more.

Below are 11 wonderful wedding presentation ideas for your reception, along with some examples to inspire you. An in-depth guide for creating your own wedding slideshow is also provided.

Presentation at a Wedding: Special Ideas to Consider

bride and groom nose to nose

1. Show Your Yearbook Photos

Whether you and your partner are getting married in your 20s , 30s, or 40s, showing yearbook photos is an entertaining and endearing idea. Your guests will see how much you have grown over the years — not only in terms of physique but also in maturity and personality.

Look back at your ambitions in preschool or what you thought of as peak comedy in your middle school yearbook quote. If you and your partner met in high school or college, a nostalgic wedding presentation idea would be to show your photos side-by-side.

2. Have Someone Interview You

Utah Wedding Video | Tommy + Amanda: The Interview

When you meet your photographer or videographer, do not forget to mention that you want to have a presentation at your wedding. You can plan an interview during your engagement photoshoot.

Your photographer or videographer can coordinate with your planner — or maid of honor — if they need help coming up with questions. Videos and photos from the shoot can serve as B-rolls for the wedding presentation.

You can even play some quick games during the interview. For example, you can incorporate “ How Well Do You Know the Bride ?” into the video and ask a few entertaining questions about your spouse.

3. Play an Original Song

Michal And Josh

If you or your partner are musically inclined, consider composing a short original song for your wedding presentation. It does not have to be three to five minutes long; you can play the song during a specific part of the slideshow.

Alternatively, a friend or relative might volunteer to write an original song for you as a wedding gift. If they do not feel comfortable performing it live, ask them if you can incorporate the piece into your slideshow.

4. Sing a Cover and Use It as Background Music

Even though you consider yourself musically inclined, you might think songwriting is not your strong suit. In this case, why not pick a personally meaningful song and provide your own rendition for the slideshow?

This song might be the music playing on your first date, or it might be from an artist you bonded over when you first met. You can also cover the second choice for your wedding first dance music as a way to include it in your reception.

5. Show Bloopers from Your Engagement Photoshoot

woman taking a picture of her boyfriend

The polished images from your engagement photoshoot might already be included in your wedding videographer’s outputs. As such, consider including bloopers and other pictures that did not make the final cut.

Pictures wherein you and your partner are making goofy or wacky poses will be perfect for your slideshow. You can also include any stolen or candid shots from other people in the photo shoot, such as relatives and friends.

6. Add Travel Photos

Everyone might know you as a well-traveled couple who has visited many states, countries, and continents. In this case, a memorable wedding presentation idea would be to include some photos from your favorite trips.

This idea for a wedding presentation is especially fitting for a destination wedding. For example, if your ceremony is at Lake Como , show some pictures you took while traveling around the area. Let your guests see what made you fall in love with the place and your venue.

7. Include Family Photos

One way to pay homage to your family is by including them in your wedding presentation. Look for pictures where all your relatives are present.

If you have a family member that has passed on, this idea is a touching way to honor them. You can feel their spirit with you, even if they cannot be physically present.

If you or your partner have children from a previous marriage, add pictures that show you and your stepkids bonding. Earning their trust and forming a bond with them might have been challenging, but all the difficulties are worth it.

8. Compile Well Wishes from Loved Ones

Jones + Divya | Wedding Video Message

The presentation at your wedding can be a compilation of well-wishes and messages from your loved ones. You can ask your friends and relatives to record a short video where they can say anything they want — anecdotes, blessings, and whatnot.

This idea is particularly excellent if you have a lot of friends and relatives who cannot attend your ceremony; they might be too far away, have prior commitments, or have a personal reason for why they cannot go.

9. Interview Your Friends and Family

If you and your partner think an interview sounds like a fantastic wedding presentation idea but do not want to be featured yourself, why not have your loved ones in front of the camera?

You can ask someone to prepare a list of questions to be answered by friends, family, and anyone you want to hear from. This idea is a sentimental gesture, something you can rewatch years down the line and feel touched by.

10. Share Your Passions

Odds are your guests will have varying levels of familiarity with you. Some might be aware of your interests and hobbies, while others might simply know you as a distant cousin or your partner’s partner.

Wedding presentations are a great way to give more information about yourself. After all, you are more than just a spouse.

If you like sports, show a picture of you at a golf course holding your favorite club. If you are an artist, why not share some images of your previous works? If you have a diverse and colorful home garden, boast about it through your photos.

11. Tell Your Life Story

"The Story of Us" Jonathan & JoEllen Wedding Slideshow

Most of the wedding presentation ideas above focus on specific parts or aspects of your life. However, keep in mind that you can use your wedding presentation to narrate the story of your relationship.

The example above starts with childhood photos of the bride and the groom. To give the slideshow structure, the creator included some text and narration. Within 10 minutes, the couple was able to tell a cohesive story of how they grew up, found each other, and started a life together.

Visualize Your Presentation

Before looking into what software to use, try to figure out how you want your presentation to look. Do you prefer a simple but elegant scrapbook-like collection of photos, or do you want to intersperse footage from a photo shoot with interviews?

Having an idea of what you want to achieve can make it easier for you to find the right software. Likewise, doing so will help you determine if you need to ask for help from a professional.

Choose the Software You Will Use

adobe softwares

There are plenty of free software options you can explore.

  • Canva – a free-to-use graphic design tool with thousands of templates to suit your needs. You can edit presentations, videos, accompanying social media posts, and more. You also have access to tons of elements — stock media, digital illustrations, etc. — for free or a certain price.
  • PowerPoint – a classic software package that allows you to design electronic presentations from scratch or following a template. This program is easy to use and learn.
  • Google Slides – another software for producing electronic presentations similar to PowerPoint. Whereas PowerPoint is an offline program, Google Slides is part of Google Workspace; like Canva, you can work on the same document with other people in real-time.
  • iMovie – a video-editing program that comes with the Apple ecosystem. This software comes with a variety of elements and transitions that will allow you to smoothly create your wedding presentation.
  • Animotica – a video editor, movie maker, and slideshow maker available to users of Windows 10. It is simple and intuitive, allowing you to add pictures, trim clips, overlay elements, and more.

There are other options, such as Smilebox, Animoto, and Adobe Spark, each with its own pros and cons. If you are already familiar with a specific program, feel free to use it to start your wedding presentation.

Browse Templates and Search for Inspiration

The programs listed above come with a library of templates and elements you can use for a presentation at a wedding. In particular, choosing a template will make editing easier and more seamless.

Instead of simply going with the first template you see, try to browse through your options until you find one that matches your theme. It can be as simple as your wedding color scheme or as elaborate as a Friends-inspired presentation.

Set a Duration for Your Slideshow

person typing on laptop

Nowadays, most of us have shorter attention spans. While a 15-minute slideshow sounds great in theory, it might not be ideal in practice; your guests might not find it entertaining or engaging anymore after the 10-minute mark.

As such, make your wedding presentation 10 minutes at most. This duration allows you to include approximately 50 to 130 images. If you want to add videos and recordings, try to trim them down as short as possible.

Gather Your Photos and Videos

Spend some time looking through old albums, Facebook posts from years ago, and storage drives. You can also ask your friends and relatives to send you anything they have.

Besides actually editing the slideshow, this part of the process might take you the longest to finish. Give yourself enough time to collect photos and videos, choose the best ones, and import them to your device with the highest quality possible.

Finalize Your Slideshow

Once the presentation is finished, you can add final touches to make it more engaging and pleasing. Firstly, consider adding background music. However, make sure to match the music to the theme and tone of the presentation.

Secondly, feel free to add any transitions, overlays, and other elements. Again, keep your theme in mind — do not put anything for the sake of putting it.

Lastly, go through the slideshow and try to catch any typographical errors and other mistakes. If you happen to miss some and only notice them while presenting the slideshow at your reception, do not worry; it happens to the best of us.

Save Your Slideshow and Back It Up

person working on her laptop

Download your file once you are satisfied with the output. The specifics depend on the venue and technological requirements; you might need to save your slideshow in a flash drive or add it to a shared folder.

Ask staff from the venue and pertinent wedding vendors for instructions.

Do not forget to save multiple backups of your slideshow. Save it on the cloud, make a copy in Google Drive, put one in a flash drive, send it to yourself via email, and so forth. You can never be too safe.

Make Time for Your Wedding Presentation

Commonly, presentations at weddings are played during the reception. However, you have other options for the timing of your slideshow presentation:

  • At the rehearsal dinner
  • During cocktail hour

If you are worried about being short of time — or losing your guests’ attention quickly — then you can have the slideshow playing in the background while they eat and socialize. You can have the slideshow repeat on mute until the next agendum on your reception timeline .

Creative ring presentation ideas for the engagement

BY The WMG Bride | 31 Mar, 2015 | 28568 views | 2 min read

One thing that's unique to Indian weddings - you wear your engagement ring not when you are proposed, but in most cases on the day of the big fat shebang we call the engagement party. One of the little details in that party is how the rings are presented. Whether you want them in trays, atop a cushion or get customised platters made from your  trousseau packer - these are some cool ideas to help you out.

1. Inside a ring tray

dcc4fe97fb71c108fb45a2e8987feed1

Trousseau Packers can create a pretty, coordinated platter for  the rings. You can get them made on top of glass, silver trays or just decorated card board.

2. Inside a custom made photo frame

engagementringplatter

An alternate to the platters would be to get a mini tray like photo frame made from your trousseau packer. You can use it as a ring holder on the day of the engagement, and in the future, you can switch up the tray to be made into a frame with a photo and your ring atop it. Way cute!

3 . Inside a birdcage

1-engagementring-platters

This engagement (coming soon on WMG) features the rings kept inside a velvet case inside a birdcage with pearls and flowers. Super pretty!

4. Martini glass and candy

2-engagementring-platters-001

You can fill a martini glass with rose petals and have the ring with the box placed on top of it. You could even place the ring on a mini cushion that rests on top of petals or candy inside the martini glass.

5. Make your nephew/ niece the ring bearers

engagementring

SO cute. Get a placard called Ring security and have it hung over your nephew or niece.

6. Macaroon Boxes

3-engagementring-platters-002

These macaroon boxes are adorable. Available at Etsy.com, not only would these be super cute to present the ring, but even after you are married these would be lovely to store your everyday earrings and ring on your bedside when you sleep.

7. For the comic obsessed variety

Remember Pallavi - the girl whose wedding had all sorts of comic detailing ? She had a batman ring bearer!!! They put the wedding bands on each arm of the batman figure!
