The Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences was officially established in 2009 as a public university with an international orientation. They have more than 7,000 students from 120 different nationalities and 76 academic staff. The university offers 25 Bachelor degree courses in four faculties: • Technology and Bionics – Kleve • Life Sciences – Kleve • Society and Economics – Kleve • Communication and Environment -Kamp-Lintfort The university library is the center of information and learning to both students and staff in Rhine-Waal University. It provides high-quality collection of physical and electronic holdings. Located in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort, it offers group and individual learning, research workshop, can access to Pcs and more. The Rhine-Waal offers free language courses in all levels. International student can take the TestDaF, the German language proficiency exam that officially recognized by German universities as proof of language competence. I love that the university is so diverse, so there are students from different places all around the would, which makes it interesting to make new friends. There are study courses mostly in English so it doesn’t matter if you know proper German, that’s an advantage too.

I had the privilege of studying at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, pursuing my Master’s in Sustainable Development Management, and my experience there was nothing short of exceptional. Rhine-Waal is a modern and dynamic institution located in a picturesque region of Germany, offering a range of programs that cater to diverse academic interests. Here are some highlights from my time at the university:

Diverse Academic Programs: Rhine-Waal University offers a wide variety of programs, and I can personally vouch for the excellence of the Master’s in Sustainable Development Management. The program was not only comprehensive but also incredibly engaging.

Practical Projects and Insightful Discussions: One of the standout features of the Sustainable Development Management program was the emphasis on practical projects and insightful discussions. These real-world applications of sustainability principles made the learning experience tangible and relevant.

Exceptional Courses and Professors: I was particularly impressed with the quality of the courses and professors in my program. The professors were not only experts in their fields but also genuinely passionate about sustainability.

Small Group Dynamics: Despite the online learning environment that I started in during the COVID-19 pandemic, the small group size in my program fostered a close-knit community. This allowed for meaningful interactions with professors and fellow students, making it easier to collaborate and exchange ideas.

Engaging Professors: The professors at Rhine-Waal are incredibly engaging and supportive. They went above and beyond to ensure that the online learning experience was as enriching as possible.

International Atmosphere: Rhine-Waal’s international atmosphere was a significant advantage. Despite the challenges of starting during the pandemic, I connected with my fellow students from around the world. This global perspective added depth to our discussions and broadened my horizons.

Career-Oriented Focus: Rhine-Waal University’s commitment to preparing students for their careers was evident throughout my studies. The practical projects and internship opportunities provided valuable real-world experience.

Beautiful Location: The campus’s location along the Rhine River is simply stunning. It provides a serene and inspiring environment for both study and leisure.

While my experience at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences was positive, it’s essential to do your research and consider your specific program and personal preferences when choosing a university.

In conclusion, Rhine-Waal University offers an excellent academic experience in a diverse and supportive environment. For those considering the Master’s in Sustainable Development Management, I can personally attest to its quality and relevance. It’s a place where you can learn, grow, and prepare for a successful future while contributing to a more sustainable world.

The university has a great location, beautiful modern campus and the Life Sciences faculty has a cozy, very international but also familiar feel. A lot of interesting projects are being started here, like the StartGlocal Startup coaching. After corona, the teaching did include some nice labs and practical excursions. However, that being said, I was disappointed by the lack of in depth discussion about actual sustainability, the sometimes middle-school level teaching quality and the poor organisation of the young university. Some students also complain of unfair grading and power hungry professors and I have sadly also seen evidence of this. I can only hope that HSRW will find a way to grow past these starting troubles and focus on quality, not quantity.

In general, the University is a well structured International learning environment and easy integration with other fellow International students. Also for my program which is offered in the Kleve, NRW campus, to a large extent, the curriculum is really well structured and I find most of the courses related to my chosen career path.

What I really find displeasure about the University is the criterias that are put in place at every point of the academic semesters, e.g., preparatory internship clause for a student to be able to continue his or her schooling from 4th semester or gets locked out of the student portal after 3rd semester if not able to proof the necessary requirements for this internship. Also, minimum ECTS for 4th and 5th semester exams. In my own opinion, all these are too mentally disturbing for students such, many fall into depression and all unconsciously because of too many clauses waiting them.

In conclusion, I will surely recommend this University to a friend.

European School of Economics

I liked that the university was located in a small village called kleve which bordered a Netherlands city called Nijmegen. It gave us the leisure as students to always travel at weekends or during semester breaks to the Netherlands freely and also our student bus ticket covered the trip free of charge.

Most students did not like the village kleve. The university need to create more games or activities to accommodate we the international students from various countries. I lived in the village kleve where the university is located till I graduated, I always felt lonely, especially due to the fact that it is a dead city on weekdays/weekends for students. There was no pub or nightclubs or bars to help we students relax after a hectic lecture week. most students got depressed and had to go back home, or change schools.

Norway’s health minister accused of plagiarism in latest ethics scandal to rock the government

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — An academic probe said Thursday that Norway’s Health Minister Ingvild Kjerkol plagiarized parts of her masters’ degree thesis three years ago, the second such case this year in the Norwegian government and the latest allegation of unethical behavior to rock the center-left government.

The investigation by Nord University in Bodoe, northern Norway, found Kjerkol’s 2021 thesis contained “far more serious errors than sloppiness,” Norwegian broadcaster NRK reported. The broadcaster said the probe’s conclusion was to deprive Kjerkol of her master’s degree in health management.

The 48-year-old Kjerkol did not comment Thursday. But she has previously rejected the allegations, saying she and a co-author did not copy to parts of another student’s thesis from 2015.

Kjerkol has been in office since October 2021 when Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre presented a coalition government of his own Labor party and the junior Center Party.

The conclusion of Thursday’s probe immediately prompted the opposition to urge Gahr Støre to say whether he has trust in Kjerkol.

Jan Tore Sanner, a senior member of Norway’s main opposition party, Hoeyre, told Norwegian news agency NTB, that the prime minister must address “the matter of confidence” in Kjerkol.” Sylvi Listhaug, the leader of the anti-immigrant Progress Party, also called on Gahr Støre to “assess whether he has confidence in her.”

Kjerkol is the second government member to be entangled in academic plagiarism allegations this year. In January, Sandra Borch stepped down as minister for research and higher education after a student discovered that parts of Borch’s master’s thesis, including spelling mistakes, were copied without attribution from a different author.

Gahr Støre’s coalition has seen the departure of several ministers in recent months over other wrongdoings. In September, it was revealed that the husband of then Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt had been trading in stocks for years behind her back and that could potentially enrich her.

The ruling social democratic Labor party was defeated in September in local elections by the Hoeyre for the first time since 1924. The party, which for decades was Norway’s largest party in local elections, came in second in the Sept. 11 elections for local councils in Norway’s 356 municipalities and 11 counties .
