प्राणी मात्रको सबभन्दा नजिक र प्रिय आमा नै हुन् । गर्वअवस्था देखि आजीवन अविरल र निश्वार्थ हित चाहनाले आमालाई मायाकी खानी पनि भनिन्छ । शृष्टि, पालन, संरक्षण, शिक्षा तथा सांस्कृति प्रदान गर्ने आमा नै वास्तविक जिउदो देवता हुन्। प्रकृतिले आमा र उनी भित्र माया नदिएको भए जीव सृष्टिबाट नै ठुलो प्रभाव पर्ने थियो होला । सम्पूर्ण जीव जगतको अध्ययनमा ठुला देखि असम सानासम्म जीवको आमाले सन्तानको हित सम्रक्षणका लागि जस्तो सुकै जोखिम उठाएको उदारहणहरू पाइने गर्दछन । यस्तो काम गर्न सक्ने शक्ति ईश्वरले प्रदान गरेका हुन्छन किनकि आमा नै शृष्टि गर्नका लागि ईश्वरकि प्रतिनीधि हुन् । जसरी सानो चरो चिलसँग र सानो जनावर पनि सिंहसँग लड्न तयार हुन्छ । मनुष्यमा पनि आलमा सन्तानको लागि हृसक जनावर, आगो, पानी, चोर डाका आदिसँग लड्दा लड्दै प्राणको आहुति दिएर पनि सन्तानको रक्षा गर्दछिन । बास्तबमै आमा श्रद्धय र मायाकी प्रतिमूर्ति हुन् ।जुन सुकै प्राणीको जन्म आमाको कोख बाहेक सम्भव नै छैन । जसको कारणबाट प्राणीले जीवनको स्वाश लिन्छ अनि यही जीवनबाट यो संसारमा आँखा खोल्दै आमाको अमृत स्थानको घुट पिउदै जीवन जिउन थाल्छ । सन्तानको जीवनलाई प्रगति पथमा डोर्याउन, उसको पालन पोषण र रक्षाको लागि हरपल घर्ति बनेर पीडालाई छातीमा सहदै परि आउने कठिनाइको सामना गर्दै बलिदानको चक्रमा पिसिदै सन्तानको रक्षा गर्दछिन ।

यस्तै आमाको जीवन दर्दनाक हुन्छ सन्तानको सुख । तर सन्तानको चिनारीलाई हिजो आज नैतिकता, संस्कृति, परम्परा भुल्दै आफ्नो मैलिक चिनारी नै बिर्सिएर स्वतन्त्राको गलत फाइदा उडाउदै आमालाई घुट् घुट्को आशुले पिसाउदै अरुको संस्कृतिमा रमाएर आज आमा एक्ली भएकी छन रे । यस्तै आमाको अनुहारलाई नजिकबाट हेरिकी छु जुन अनुभूतिले मलाई आक्लांत बनाएको छ ।

दुर्गम गाउको बस्तीमा एउटा निम्न मध्यम परिवार थियो । तीन छोरा र तीन छोरी जन्म दिएकी आमाको जीवनमा कहिल्यै सुख्का दिन आएनन । आफ्नो श्रीमानको सानो जागिरबाट सबै छोराछोरीलाई प्रतिपालन गर्न र शिक्षा दिलाउन पेट भरि खुवाउँन आफूले कति दिन भोक्कै बसी सन्तानको पेट भराउन कोसिस गर्द्थिन् । सन्तान सानो र श्रीमानको जागिर शहरभन्दा बाहिर भएकोले उनीलाई अति नै कठिनाइको सामना गर्नु पर्यो । ठुलो परिवारमा भएता पनि आफन्तले कहिल्यै माया नगर्नाले दिन दिन तड्पिएर सन्तानको सुन्दर भविष्यको कल्पना मात्र गर्दथिन् उनी।

एकदिन आमाले आफ्नै सबै सम्पतिको हकदाबी गर्ने छोरालाई सोध्छिन ।

"बाबु भन त तलाई मैले आफ्नो भए जति सबै सम्पति, रुपैया, पैसा तेरो नाम गरी दिनु भनेर मैले गरी दिन्छु । तर, यदि म बिरामी भइहालेँ भने र आँखा अन्धो भएर केही हेर्न सकिन भने के गर्छौ छोरा ?"

सम्पति आफ्नो नाउँमा हस्ताउन तल्लिन छोराले भन्छ ।

"आमा म हजुरलाई राम्रोभन्दा राम्रो डाक्टरको लैजान्छु र इलाज गराउछु । चिन्ता नगर्नु म सेवा गर्छु नि ।"

"ए हो र ?" आमा उत्तर दिन्छिन् ।

त्यही कुरा छोराले आमालाई सोध्छ, "आमा आमा, यदि म कुनै दुर्घटनामा परेर मेरो आँखा गयो भने त्यो बेला हजुरले के गर्नुहुन्छ नि ?"

आमाले मिठो स्वरमा नम्र हुँदै भन्छिन्, "मेरो प्राण, तिमीलाई यो दुई मेरो नेत्र प्रदान गर्छु । तिमीबिना मेरो यो रोशनी भएर पनि अन्धकार समान हुन्छ । मेरो नेत्रले तिमीले संसार देख्न सक्ने छौ ।"

यस्ती ममतामयी आमाको मलाई सम्झना आउछ त्यो पल जुन दिन आमाले खान बनाएर लस्कर पिंढीमा बसाएर छ वटा थालमा खाना राख्नु हुन्थ्यो । अनि लगेर देऊ भन्नु हुदा कान्छी छोरीले सबैलाई लगेर दिन्थी र आफ्नो थाल भान्साकोठामा राख्द्थी ।

"ल जाऊ तिमी पनि सबैसँगै बसेर खाऊ ।"

"नाइँ म यही तपाईंसँग बसेर खान्छु ।"

"जाऊ न दिदीहरूसँगै बसेर खाऊ । आज मेरो ब्रत हो ।"

"अ होला हो ।"

उसले पकाएको भाडो उघारेर हेर्थी र खाना आमाको भागमा हुदैनथ्यो । कान्छी छोरीले आफ्नो थालको भागलाई दुई थालमा हाल्थी र आमा खानु भनेर भन्दा आमाले तर्ककै आँशु खसाल्नु हुन्थ्यो र दुवैले मिलेर आधा पेट खान्थे । कान्छी छोरीलाई त्यो आधा पेट खान र आमाको छेउमा चुलो निर गएर पाखुरामा समातेर आफ्नो शिरलाई राख्द्थी।

न्यानो माया नै कति प्यारो थियो उसलाई । र भन्थी, "आमा यो दुखको दिन कहिले हटला हाम्रो ।"

हुन् पनि किन नहोस र ! जब आमाको काखमा जन्म लिएर न्यानो आचल प्राप्त गर्यौ । हो त्यो दिनलाई आज सम्झना गर्छे ऊ । उसले जसरी आफ्नो सन्तानलाई काखमा लिदा अनुभूति गरिरहेछे ।

सानोमा जन्माउँदादेखि लिएर ठुलोसम्मको कल्पना भित्र मात्र आमाको स्मरण गर्न मन लाग्छ रे उसलाई । हो पनि । ऊ भन्द्छे, "जब म सानोमा आफ्नो कुरा व्यक्त गर्न नसकी मात्र चिच्याएर रोइदिन्थे । अनि अरु कसैले नबुझेर आमाले हामीलाई बुझ्नु हुन्थ्यो । आँशुभित्रको दाना दाना आमाले पढ्नु हुन्थ्यो । सायद म रोइदिएर भाषाको निर्माण गरी दिन्थे र आमाले मलाई यसलाई चिसो लाग्यो, भोक लाग्यो, नाङ्गो भए भनेर आफ्नो आचलमा लुटुपुटु पार्दै आफूले कति दिनसम्म भोकै बसेर हामीले निल्न नसके अन्नलाई आमाले मुखमा चपाएर, खूवाउदै हुकाउनु भयो । मेरो आत भरिएपछि मेरो आँखाको रोदन हरायो लाग्दथ्यो कि मैले जीवन पाए ।

आमा शब्दले अति नै महत्व दिदो रैछ । जब मैले आफै सन्तानलाई नौ महिनासम्म राखेर नारीबाट आफ्नो मुटुको एक टुक्रा झिकेर प्रिथिवीमा झारे अनि बल्ल आमा हुने सौभाग्य प्राप्त गरे । तर मलाई थाहा छ त्यो पीडा, मृतु पछिको पुनः जन्म लिदै कसरी सन्तानलाई जन्म दिन पुगिन्छ । आमा तिमीले गरेका हेरेक दुख आज मैले बोध गरिरहेकी छु । हो हिजो म जसरी शरीरको एक टुक्रा अंशलाई भुइमा झर्दा जसरी चिच्याए त्यो पीडा तिम्रो मैले महसुस गरे ।जुन मेरो लागि सदा बोधगम्य रहनेछ । तिमीले आफ्ना सन्तानलाई कसरी हुर्कायौ होला भनेर मैले सम्झनु आवश्यक छैन किनकि जब घामको न्यानो तापमा दलेका तेलले मलाई शक्ति प्रदान गरे झैँ सन्तानलाई हेरेर मैले गर्दैछु, पिरो अमिलो, नूनिलो, गुलियो स्वाद तिमीले खुवाएका खानाले मलाई चिनायो । किनकि पिरो हुदा म चिच्याएर रोई दिन्थे, अमिलो नूनिलो हुदा म मुखलाई बिचाकाउथे र मिठो, गुलियो म सजिलै खाई दिन्थे । तिमीले मलाई हर सास दिलाएकी छौ आमा, म कसरी बिर्सु ।

मेरो पाइला कुनै गलत ठाउमा जादा तिमीले कानको जरा पक्डेर निमोठी दिदा म रुन्थे, तिमी गाली गरेको शब्दहरूले म झर्किन्थे । त्यो मलाई आज अमृत भएको छ । तर किन तिमीले त्यस्ता गरौ भनेर पाठ मैले आफ्नै सन्तानबाट सिक्दै छु । तिमीले मलाई हासॉको महत्व सिकायौ आमा । तिम्रो हासोमा विजयको गीत गुन्जिदो रहेछ तिम्रो आँखामा आशु बह्दा दुखले बाजा बजाए झैँ लाग्छ । जुन दिन हाम्रो लागि तिमीले अति नै चिन्ता गरयौ त्यो हामी सन्तानको खुशी र सुन्दर भविष्यको लागि कामना गरौ त्यो आत्यधिक थियो आमा । कसैले पिट्न आउदा, धम्काउदा तिमील्र आफू अगाडि उभिएर सामना गर्थौ म कसरी बिर्सिनु म त्यो । हरपल रंगिन यो दुनिया बगेर आएको पानी नअड़े झैँ सिनेमाको चलचित्र बनेर आज आँखामा झल्किन्छ । आज झल्झली आफ्नो सन्तानले याद दिलौछं तिमी भित्रको पीडा ।

म गर्व गरिरहेकी छु आज आमा हुनुमा । जसरी एक नोर्दोष बच्चालाई बोल्न, हास्न, खेल्न, कुद्न, खान, उज्यालो, अँध्यारो, राम्रो, नराम्रो, ठुलो सानो, शिक्षा हुदाको र शिक्षा नहुदाको बोध गराउदै आफ्नो जिम्मेवारी बहन गर्नसम्म सिकायौ अनि आफूलाई सफा र सुन्दर, फाटेको कपडा र नफाटेको कपडाको महत्वसम्मको शिक्षा दिने आमा मलाई आत्मा निर्भर हुन् सिकायौ ।

आमा आज बुवाले छाडेर जानु भए पछि तिम्रो एक्लोपनलाई मैले टाढा बसेर कल्पना गरिरहेकी छु । तिम्रो काखामा तिमीले हुर्काएका सबै सन्तानहरू भएर पनि हिजोको त्यो पलहरूलाई बिर्सिएर आफ्नो दुनियामा मग्नमस्त भएका छनरे अनि तिमी गेन परेवाको भेलबाट छुटेको एक्लो फरेवा जुन बासको लागि भड्किएर यता उता फट्फटाउदै कसैको झुपोमा वास दिन्छन कि एकरात भन्दै मुटु भरि पीडाका ढिक्का बोकी कसैलाई नसुनाई रोदनको हासो हास्दै वास खोज्दै हिडेको छौ रे ।

तिमी कति नोर्दोष छौ आमा । तिम्रो बोली, तिम्रो हासो आज, आफै बालक हुदा तिमीले कति धैर्यता भएर मुस्कुराउँन सिकायौ, झर्किएर सानोमा चिच्याउदै काराउदा पनि तिमीले शान्त भएर बोल्यौ तर आज तिम्रा सन्तान । तिमी झैँ आमा र बुवा भन्ने अवसर प्राप्त गरे तर हाम्रो झर्किएको पल र बोलेको तिखो वचन तिमीले त सयौ आज । त्यो अवस्थामा तिमी छौ । तिम्रो ठाउमा हामी तर किन तिम्रो बचन सहन सकिरहेको छैनन किन तिम्रो त्यो मिठो मुस्कानलाई फर्काउन सक्दैन् ? किन तिमीले गरेका हरेक लगनशिलताको महत्व बुझ्न सकेनन्? किन आमाको शब्दको निर्माण गर्न सक्दैन ? आमा तिम्रो त्यो मायालाई, लगनशिलतालाई मैले शृष्टि कि जननी भनेर उचारण गर्दै तिमीले उचारण गर्न सकिएका हरेक शब्द शब्द सम्झन्छु किनकि मैले आमा हुने सौभाग्य प्राप्त गरे अनि तिमी आमा हौ ।"

मलाई याद आउछ तिम्रो काखमा छ जना सन्तान थिए । तिमीलाई स्याहार सुसार गर्न कति कठिन थियो किनकि तिमीले एक्लो थियौ । बाबाले कमाएर ल्याउन परदेश हिडेको चरी झैँ । तिमीले सानो गुढ़ भित्र संगालेर राखेको सन्तान । म ढिट स्वभावको थिए आफूले चाहेको गरेर छाड्ने । कसैसँग नडराउने । तर तिम्रो हरपल दुखको सहारा हुने प्रयास गरिरहन्थे । म परदेशिए तिमी एक्लो भएछौ । आफूलाई बाल्यअवास्थाको सबै कुरा भुलेछन तिम्रो अरु सन्तानले भन्ने थाहा पाए सम्झे बुवा र तिम्रो सम्बन्धलाई कस्तो अटल थिए कति प्रेम थियो । कुनै छोरा छोरीको गुनासो पनि आफैले घुट बनाएर पिउने बाबाले हरपल सन्तानको सुख्को लागि एकछाक पेटभरी नखाई संगालेर राख्न गरेको कोशीश आज निष्काम हुदै जादैछ रे । तिमीप्रति गर्दै गएका अभद्र व्यवहार, किचकिचले सुन्दा र त्यही एउटा कुटिलाई पनि खण्ड पर्दै तिमीलाई जोखिरहेका छन रे । यो परदेशी मन मेरो अनि तिम्रो झरेका आशु त्यो । सधै एकले अर्कालाई दोषारोपण गर्दै सहन नसकी तिमीले निस्केर पागल झैँ बेसहार वटुवा भएको कुराले मनलाई त्रासित बनाएको छ । म केही गर्न सकिरहेकी छुइनँ । मात्र कानले सुन्छु । मेरो विवशता भन्नु नै मेरो सिंगो जिन्दगी । तिम्रो शिरमा झरेको पहाडले मलाई नै भयभित गराउदै छ कसरी बिर्सिए होलान बालकपनको पहिलो विद्यालय त्यो घर अनि तोते बोलीबाट उच्चारण गर्न सिकाउदै, बाबा आमा, दादा दिदी भन्दै सबै परिवारको नाम सम्बोधन र क देखि जेडसम्म सिकाउदै विद्यालयका सिँढीहरूउत्रिन सिकाउने गुरु आमा तिमी नै थियौ, । तर आज तिमी एउटा पिजडा भित्र कैद गरिएकी मैना झैँ देख्छु । लाग्छ खुल्ला हावामा सास लिइरहेकी तिमी आज सुन्शान कोठामा एक्लै झोक्रइरहेकी छौ रे ।" आमा तिमी त गाउ घरमा सबैको लागि सुगा झैँ सिता र रामको कहानी सिकाउदै, महाभारतको कहानी सुनाउथ्यौ । मिठा मिठा ज्ञानको कुरा गरेर सबैलाई जिन्दगीको सन्देश सिकाउने भएकी थियौ । कसैको लागि मिठो बोलीले मैनाको सुरुलो आवाज सुन्न ब्याकुल हुने गर्दथे तर किन तिम्रै छोराहरूले आज गिद्ध झैँ गरिरहेछन तिमीलाई ।

"आमा तिमी त्यही हौ परेवा झैँ कोलम र सुन्दर । तिम्रो त्यही बोलीले आगनमा रौनकता आउछ जुन बेला घन्टी बजाउदै गुण गुनाउछौ सन्तानको रक्षा गर । हे प्रभु हाम्रो दुख हर ।' हरपल सम्झिन्छु आमा।"

मेरो आँखाले मात्र तिम्रो रुपलाई कल्पना गरिरहन्छ । त्यो ढोका कहिले खुल्ला अनि तिमी आफ्नै गतिमा सुख्को सास फेरौली ।मेरो आँखा परदेश भएर पनि टोलाइरहेछ त्यो पिजडाको ढोकातिर ।" जब तिमी त्यो बन्दनबाट मुक्त भएर यो लोभी अंशमा दाबी गर्ने सन्तानका आशक्त मनलाई पन्छाई दिनेछौ अनि तिमी बाहिरको स्वच्छ हावा लिदै आफ्नै संसारमा परेवा झैँ उडन सक्छौ तर आफ्नो गुढ़लाई संगालेर राख । सुनौलो संसारमा रमाउन पनि जीवन रहेसम्म आफ्नो थलो हुने पर्छ हैन भने यो पापी संसारमा जीवन जिउन गाह्रो हुदो रैछ आमा । त्यसैले म पनि एक सुगा झैँ परदेशमा पिजडा भित्रै छु, निस्केर बाहिरको संसारमा रमाउन मन लाग्छ तर भाचिएको पखेड़ाहरू अँझै तन्रिन सकेका छैन । निस्कन चाहन्छु हेर्छु तिमी झैँ यहा पनि विवश भएर बाच्ने गरेका आमा, बुवाहरूलाई अनि फेरि फर्कन्छु उही थलोमा म के गरु आमा ।

सायद समय निर्दयी भएर होला तिमी त्यहा बर्बर आशु झरेर बस्दा पनि मैले यहीको कैदीहरूलाई आशु पुछ्ने गर्दा गर्दै एक्लै यो नौलो संसारबाट फुत्त निस्किन सकिकी छैन । म यहा बसेर पनि तिम्रो कथा र ब्यथा सुनेर एउटा नौलो अनुभव गरिरहेकी छु । समयसँग परिवर्तन र प्रकृतिको सम्मान । जहाँ तिम्रो नै सम्मान देख्छु । तिमीले सिकाएका संस्कृति, संस्कारको नियम सम्झिन्छु । अनि मनन गर्छु । कति महान छ जीवन आमा भएर जिउनुमा तर पिडि पिलाले तिम्रो रुपको बर्णन सुन्छु यहा मन स्थिर छैन यता उता भड्किएको चरा झैँ आमा आज मृतुलाई कुर्दैछिंनरेभन्दा कति मन भयभित भएको छ म कसरी बर्णन गरूँ ।"

प्रकृर्तिलेपनी आज तिम्रै गीत गायो आमा ।।

तिमीलाई छोडी टाढा अब हुनेछैन आमा

भोलि के हुन्छ यहा थाहा छैन विश्वासको पर्खाल टुटिन्छ आमा

बाउआमालाइ हेर्ने कुन छ नभन न आमा ।

एकदिन यो नि टाढा हुन्छ नभन न आमा ।।

उसको पनि को नै छ र म भनेरै आइछे ।

खाली बुहारीकै कुरा सुन्छ नभन न आमा ।।

एक चिम्टी सिन्दुरको भर हुन्न आमा ।

रगतको भन्दा प्यारो थर हुन्न आमा ।।

पराई बनाउन नखोज्नु डोलिमा चढाएर ।

जन्मिएको जस्तै अरु घर हुन्न आमा ।।

अाफ्नै छायामा झुकिन्छ ख्याल गर है आमा

हिन्दा पाईला ठोकिन्छ ख्याल गर है आमा

ठुलो मान्छे बनि अाउछु एक दिन पक्कै पिर नग

र दुखी हुदा आँसु पोखिन्छ ख्याल गर है आमा

दिन दिनैकाे दौडान ,दुखले दिन कटाउनु परेको होला

खाना खादा ढुङ्गा टोकिन्छ ख्याल गर है आमा

भोकाएर दुख दिंदा ‘दिनमा’ होस् या राति,

रिसाएझैँ गर्थ्यौ तर..रित्याउथ्यौ छाती

कुटे पनि मारे पनि आफ्नै आमा जाति….

छोरी-बुहारी श्रीमती रुप कति कति,

सबै रुपको बोझ बोक्छ्यौ सिंगै धर्ति जति

संसारमा आमा नै हुन सप्पै भन्दा माथि…

जीवन बित्यो साहुको गेटमा भाग्यले नै ढाँटो आमा जहाँ सुकै बसेपनी प्यारो आफ्नै माटो आमा ।

बा उठेर जुँवा खालमा रक्सी धोकी साँझ घर। खोलेसिस्नो खुवाई हाम्लाई पाल्ने मेरी  आमा ।

माफ गर्नुहोस् ए  आमा  म असल छोरो भईन। मलाई चोट लाग्दा आँशु खसाल्ने मेरी  आमा ।

आज एकलोटा पानी सारेर पिउन सक्दिनन्। दिनरात नभनी माटो वालुवा चाल्ने मेरी  आमा ।

आँशु पसिना लाग्छ बाबु सहयोग गर्नु भन्थिन। एकदानो पनि अनाज खेर नफाल्ने मेरी  आमा ।

तिम्रै तस्वीर छुन्छु,  आमा  तिम्रो सम्झनामा!! भक्कानिदै रून्छु,  आमा  तिम्रो सम्झनामा!

प्रवास मा जब जब, तिम्रो याद आईदिन्छ!!  आँसूले गह धुन्छु,  आमा  तिम्रो सम्झनामा!

रमेको छु रम्न त, हजारौं को भीड मा!! तर एक्लै हुन्छु,  आमा  तिम्रो सम्झनामा!

बिरानो शहर मा, पसीना को धारा बगाई!! लाखौं सपना बुन्छु,  आमा  तिम्रो सम्झनामा!

भगवानले असर्फीमा, एउटै चिज दिए!! तिम्रो खुशी चुन्छु,  आमा  तिम्रो सम्झनामा!

आमा जहिलै हाम्रो मुखमा सधै आउने नाम। कसैले नि नसकेको गर्छौ तिम्ले काम।।

हिजो तिमिले जन्म दियौ आफ्नो कोखमा राखी। दिनै पर्छ तिमिले आमा सन्तान सम्झी माफी।।

लिएको ऋण अझसम्म तिर्न नसकेर, आँगनमा दिनकै साहु पल्किएर रुन्छिन !!

अन्नपात केही छैन सधै भोकभोकै, खेतबारी सबै बाँझो टल्किएर रुन्छिन !!

बुढेसकालमा बेसहारा बनाएर गएपनि आँखाभरी सन्तानकै तस्बिर झल्किएर रुन्छिन !!

गाली गर्दै , उठा भन्दै , जुठो छर्छिन् हजुरआमा दिनभरिको कामले थाकी जब अढेश पर्छिन् आमा ।

बिहान जैले चार बजे उठि ढिकी जाँतो गर्दै, रोटी, भात पकाउन सधैं अघि सर्छिन् आमा ।

कोशेली र मीठो जति सबैलाई बाँढे पछि, भोक मेट्न बाँकी भाको रहल्पहल चर्छिन् आमा ।

घाँस, दाउरा अनि पानी संगसंगै बोक्नु पर्ने, ज्यान यौटा काम अनेक एकै चोटी गर्छिन् आमा ।

जुठा भाँडा सकेपछि जब राती सुत्न जान्छिन् , झर्ने आँशु लुकाएर भित्र भित्रै मर्छिन् आमा ।

मलाई संसार देखाएर तिमी कहाँ गयौ आमा माया अपार देखाएर तिमी कहाँ गयौ आमा सारा दुख एक्लै भोगी मलाई पढ्न पठाइ पठाइ जिउने आधार देखाएर तिमी कहाँ गयौ आमा पुजापाठ धर्मकर्म अतिथिलाई सत्कार गरी असल संस्कार देखाएर तिमी कहाँ गयौ आमा एकदिन आखिर मर्नै पर्छ नरोए है छोरी भन्दै महान विचार देखाएर तिमी कहाँ गयौ आमा नदि तटको चितामाथी राख्दासम्म हेर्दै थियौ मलाई किनार देखाएर तिमी कहाँ गयौ आमा

आमा तिम्ले काखमा राखी, खुवाएको याद आयो नाना चाचा लगाउदा , सुहाएको याद आयो।

बायाँ हातले मैले लेख्दा ,अशुभ हुन्छ भन्दै तिम्ले नलेख भन्दै हातमा हानी, रुवाएको याद आयो

बदमास गरि सङ्गिनिले, दोष जति मलाई लाउदा साबित गर्न देबिथान, छुवाएको याद आयो

बगैचामा फल्थे आँप ,दुख्छ पेट नखाउ भन्दै लुकाएर भण्डारमा ,कुहाएको याद आयो

सानो चोट मलाइ लाग्दा ,ज्यान जालाझै सुम्सुमाउदै के भो भन्दै तिम्ले आँसु ,चुहाएको याद आयो।।

बुहारीका हातमा डाडू पनिउ अघाएनौ होला आमा !! आफू खुसी मिठो मसिनो पकाएनौ होला आमा !!

आफ्नै घरमा तिमिलाई दासी बनाउँदा, पक्कै पनि त्यो ज्यान थकाएनौ होला आमा !!

रोगी छौ कसरी ख्याल राख्छौ आफ्नो, नहुदा खर्च स्वास्थलाई जचाएनौ होला आमा !!

थोत्रो अनि मैलो देखिन्छ होला लुगाहरु, अरुकै खटन त्यहाँ सुकिलो-मुकिलो लगाएनौ होला आमा !!

घरमा कहिलेकाहीँ मनमुटाव हुँदा, स-साना बचनमा आँशु बगाएनौ होला आमा !!

दिनभरि भोको बसि रातमा तिमी छटपटाउँदा, आधारातमा कसैलाई जगाएनौ होला आमा !!

जस्तो कर्म गर्यो उस्तै फल पाईन्छ आखिर, पालो सबको आउँछ भनी सम्झाएनौ होला आमा !!

गरिबको र धनीको खाना फरक पाएँ आमा। लाज ढाक्ने एक धर्सो नाना फरक पाएँ आमा।

सोचेको’थेँ यो जिन्दगी बनाउँछु म रङ्गमय, सपना र विपनाको पाना फरक पाएँ आमा।

नि:स्वार्थ माया पाउँछु भन्ने लाग्थ्यो मैले पनि, पुर्व र पश्चिमको चाहाना फरक पाएँ आमा।

वशमा पार्छु भन्ने लाग्थ्यो मायाको त्यो घडेरी नि, तैपनि त रोपनी र आना फरक पाएँ आमा।

फूल झैँ कोमल हुन्छ भन्थेँ, उनको मन पनि, मुटुको घाउ र आँसु दाना फरक पाएँ आमा।

तिम्लाई अझै लुट्ने हुन कि भन्ने मलाई पिर छ आमा अरु दिन नसके नि यहि यौटा शिर छ आमा

घर आउदा बुहारी ल्याउनु भन्छिन् आमा । म मात्र पधेरि कति धाउनु भन्छिन् आमा । म डाडा पारिको घाम भइ सके बाबू अब ! यादमा कति आँसु बगाउनु भन्छिन् आमा ।

आमा के हुन भन्ने कुरा , कति बुझ्छौ तिमी।। भगवान त आमा हुन,ढुङ्गा कति पुज्छौ तिमी।। आमाको बरदानलाई एकपटक ,सम्झिएर हेर त, देउता खोज्दै यताउता,कति काका कुद्छौ तिमी।।

घरमा मेरी बुढी आमा हुनुहुन्छ एक्लै! आँसु लुकाइ मन-मन रुनुहुन्छ एक्लै! सन्तानकी धनी तर कोहि छैन साथमा हेरि मेरो तस्विरलाई छुनुहुन्छ एक्लै!!

सन्तानलाई काखमा लिइ निदाउछिन आमा उसकै निम्ति हास्दै दुख बिताउछिन आमा खै के जादु छ कुन्नि उनिमा बुझ्न सकिएन हार्न खोज्ने सन्तानलाई नि जिताउछिन आमा ।।

सबैको छोरा छोरी आउदा रुन्छिन होलि मेरि आमा दोबाटोमा हेर्दै आशुले मुख धुन्छिन होलि मेरि आमा आमाको मुख हेर्ने दिन्नि फर्किएन परदेशि छोरो भन्दै सम्झिदै बिगत मेरो तस्विर छुन्छिन होलि मेरि आमा

आमा बिना को संसार कस्तो होला है? धर्ती बिना को आकास जस्तो होला है

बृद्दाश्रम मा आमा सङ्ग सेल्फी लिने हरु आमा नाम को शब्द नै सस्तो होला है

सब चिज छ मसङ्ग तर छैनन् मेरि आमा। खुसी दिई राख्थे होला रहिनन मेरि आमा।

बिशेष आजको दिन त कहिलै नआओस, आँसु झर्छ,सम्झिएर,किन भईनन मेरि आमा।।

आमा मैले दस धारा दुधको भरा तिर्न भ्याउन्न कि तिमी बिरामी भएकोमा हेर्न पनि आउन्न कि पराई भाको म त आमा माइत बस्न सुवाउन्न कि पराई रिजाउदै म ब्यस्त भएमा तिम्रो आशीर्वाद पाउन्न कि

जन्म दिने बाबा- आमालाई ,सम्पत्ति सँग जोक्छन् किन? ईज्जत र इमान्दारलाई, धनको अाधारमा तोक्छन् किन? घरमा भएका बिचरा यी बुढा,आमा-बाबा लाई हेला गरी , पुण्य पाउने बाहनामा ,मन्दिरको ढुङ्गालाई ढोक्छ्न् किन ?

आकासका जुन हेरि टोलाउदै छु आमा ! सम्झनाले नयन घेरि लोलाउदै छु आमा ! माफ गर्नु छोरो सम्झि सु:ख दिन नसकेनि चोट पर्दा हजुकै नाम बोलाउदै छु आमा!!

आज म अलिकति सोच्न सक्ने भएकी छु फुकाएर मन सबैमा राम्रै बोल्न सक्ने भएकी छु तपाइको मेहनत मैले मेरा नानीहरुमा क्रमशः सारिरहेछु तपाइले जस्तै मैलेपनि मेरै बारीमा फूल फुलाउन निरन्तर पानी हालीरहेछु।

कहिले उल्टोबाट हेर्छु कहिले सुल्टोबाट हेर्छु जताबाट हेरे पनि पुर्णता पाउछु सधैं मुस्कुराइरहनु स्बस्थ जीबनको सधैं गुणगान गाउछु।

Nepali Familial Relationships (Immediate Family)

As in many South Asian cultures, Nepali relational terms is very family-centric, respect-based, and gendered. As you venture beyond immediate family, terms change depending on the family member’s relation to you paternally or maternally. In this lesson, we will go over terms for immediate family and how some of these terms are used colloquially for non-family members.

Father =  बाबा ( bābā ) Mother = आमा ( āmā ) *There are no terms for step-mother or step-father as this is very uncommon

Grandfather = बाजे ( bāje ); हजुरबुवा ( hajurbuwā ) Grandmother = बज्यै ( bajyai ); हजुरआमा ( hajurāmā ) *The terms for Grandfather and Grandmother are the same on both sides of the family. It is also not uncommon to refer to people who are much older than you and  not related to you as hajurbuwa or hajurama.

Granddaughter = नातिनी ( nātinī ) Grandson = नाति ( nāti )

Elder brother = दाइ ( dāi ) *Dai is also a friendly term for any older male in your life. You may refer to a older male friend or colleague as Dai. Additionally, if you walk into a tea shop or food stall, it is common to refer to this stranger as Dai.

Older male = जेठो (Jēṭhō) *This word is used to distinguish an older male sibling. You would not call your older brother Jetho Dai, instead this is used to describe their relationship to you. For example, if someone asks about your brother’s names, you would distinguish the older from the younger: “Mero jetho dai ko naam John ho” “ My older brother’s name is John” .

Elder sister = दिदी ( didī ) *As with Dai, Didi is also a friendly term for any older non-relative woman in your life. You may refer to a older female friend, colleague, or stranger as Didi.

Older female = जेठी (Jēṭhī) *This word is used to distinguish an oldest female sibling. You would not call your oldest sister Jethi Didi, instead this is used to describe their relationship to you. For example, if someone asks about your sister’s names, you would distinguish the oldest from the others: “Mero jethi didi ko naam Sara ho” “ My oldest sister’s name is Sara” .

Younger brother = भाइ ( bhāi ) *As well as a direct term for your younger brother, Bhai is also friendly term for all younger males who are not related to you.

Younger male = कान्छो (kānchhō) *This word is used to distinguish an younger male sibling or son. You would not call your youngest brother kanchho bhai, instead this is used to describe their relationship to you. Husband = श्रीमान् ( śrīmān ) or बुढा ( buḍhā ) Wife = श्रीमती ( śrīmatī ) or बुढी ( buḍhī ) *Budha and Budhi translate to old-man and old-woman. It is more polite to ask about someone’s husband or wife using sriman or srimati. They (or you) may refer to their spouse as budha or budhi.

अचम्म लाग्छ मलाई पलपल तिमी ले आफुतिर आकर्षित गरेको देख्दा चुलबुलिएर तिमिले गरेको बदमासी पनि मलाई यति धेरै मन परेको देख्दा।

अचम्म लाग्छ मलाई तिमि प्रतिको यो माया मोह देख्दा तिम्रा साना साना गतिविधिमा अल्झिएर आफ्ना ठूला ठूला लक्ष्यहरु मा छायाँ पार्दा दिन प्रतिदिन तिमी बढेको हेरि,त्यसैमा मोहित भै बस्दा।

मेरी प्यारी छोरी, जब तिमी बामे सर्दै आएर,मेरो काखमा लुटुपुटु गर्छौ, साना तिम्रा हत्केलाले, मलाई स्पर्श गर्छौ, खेल्दै, चल्दै मलाई खोज्दै पल्याक पुलुक हेर्छौ, तिमिलाई थाहा छैन, खुशी र उमङ्ग का अनेकौं रङ्ग मेरो मनमा, जिबनमा भर्छौ।

तिमि लड्छौ,पल्टन्छौ फेरि आफै उठ्छौ नयाँ केही देखे ,नियालि खुबै हेर्छौ माइक्रोसकोप जस्ता तिम्रा आँखा, भुइँ का साना दाना पनि देख्छौ चुम्बकले फलामका टुक्रा तानेझैँ फेरि ति साना दाना नि औँलाले टिप्छौ। खेल छ तिम्रो आफ्नै,आफ्नै छ खेल्ने तरिका अचम्म लाग्छ यो जानेर कि तिम्रै वरिपरि छन् मेरा खुशी संसार भरिका।

मेरी प्यारी छोरी, यसै फुरुङ्ग भइ डुल्छौ तिमि यता उता सोच्छु म , साच्चै भगवानकै रुप हो यो बाल अवस्था पत्थर कै मुटु होला त्यो मानिसको जो नियाल्न सक्दैन स‌ृष्टिको यो अनुपम सुन्दरता॥

मानोउ कि आकास जस्तै ठूलो एउटा सफा क्यानभाषमा, केटाकेटीहरु आएर चित्रकलाको अभ्यास गर्छन, चित्र कोर्छन बिग्रन्छ, अनि मेट्छन, फेरि कोर्छन बिगार्छन अनि फेरि रिसाएर हेर्छन जहाँ एउटा रिसाएको मान्छेको अदभुत अनुहारलाइ देखेर, अनि आफ्ना बाबालाइ डराउदै बोलाएर भन्छन “यहाँ हेर्नु त ” अन्तत, हेर्दा त्यो तस्बिर ती नानिहरुलाई नै हेरेर स्वयम् हासिरहेको हुन्छ किनकि त्यो उनिहरुकै आमा हुन ।

एउटा अध्याय यहाँ पनि छ इतिहासको— हयाँगरजस्ता लाग्ने करङहरुमा टाँगिएका मैला कपडाहरु हाम्रा सुकिला जीवनका अर्थहरु रहिछन, उनको निद्रा अपहरण हुनु र, छेउमा हामी ढुक्क निदाउनु यी पनि हाम्रै सपनाका पहरेदारी रहिछन् ।

सम्झनाका नदीहरु बगाउँदै आँखाबाट तर पनि अटाएकै छन् हाम्रा भागका सपनाहरु एक्लैबाट धेरै र, टुक्रिएकर पनि फेरि एक्लै हाम्रै राजमार्ग फराकिला पार्न लागिरहने “आमा” ! त्यसै कहाँ बनिदोरहेछ र “आमा” ! थाहा भयो समयले गलहत्याएर इतिहासको चाङमा राखिदिएपछि । महानताको व्याख्या यसै हुन सक्दैन छोराहरु आयोजित/प्रायोजित औपचारिकताको आडम्वरी भेलामा ।

Momo “म:म:” unanimously is the unofficial national dish of Nepal. This Nepali dumpling which comes in various shapes, sizes and with all kinds of fillings is a household name in many parts of Nepal. With simple recipes contrasting to the delectable taste, Momo is the go-to meal for any period of the day. Momo is more than a dish in Nepal; it is a way of life.

What is Momo?

The word Momo is said to be originated in ancient Tibet but the Nepali Momo has established a unique identity of its own. Like any other type of dumpling, it is a meat or vegetable filling wrapped in a dough. It is bite-sized and usually served with dipping sauce. Chicken, Veg, and Buff Momos are the most common kinds of Momo in the country but other kinds are available too. Due to its massive consumption, Momo has evolved to become a fast food in Nepal. If a Momo shop gets going, it is very likely to be making and selling Momos from lunch to dinner. The average cost of a Momo in Nepal is around 100 rupees (~US$1) but the cost can differ according to the choice of filling, and the scale of restaurant you choose to consume it at.

Why anyone should try Momo?

This delicious dish, if made and consumed in the right way has health benefits too! For one, the sheer delight when you bite into the savory fillings of a Momo is bound to refresh your mood and bring about positive energy! For a well-made Momo (with minimum oil and healthy fillings) the average calorie count is at 45 Kilocalories per piece. A steamed Momo is always healthier than a fried one. The dipping also is known as “Achar” or “chutney” can be made a healthy one with a blend of spices and flavors such as mint, oregano, mustard etc.

Why anyone should try Momo making?

Not only eating Momos, but the process of making them is also a unique experience. It is a wonderful family activity perfect for gatherings. Everyone can be involved in the process of wrapping the mix and it always tastes better when the whole family plays a part. Momo is also a great food to experiment with. You can experiment with the fillings and create your own type of Momo. Furthermore, the dipping sauce can be a unique creation of your own.

Momo recipes

Momos can be made in various ways but the basic ingredients and process are as follows:

Ingredients

• Choice of filling (minced meat/veggies)

• Flour for the dough

Momo Making Steps

• Wrap the dough in a plastic and set it.
• Add the ingredients (apart from the dough) in the filling of your choice and mix it properly. Add a tiny bit of water to ensure the filling is soft and moist. It is best if the filling is prepared an hour or so earlier to let the flavors set in.
• Ball up tiny pieces of the dough and roll it out
• Place the filling inside it and wrap it (YouTube wrapping techniques)
• Steam the dumplings until it is ready
• You can make the dipping as per your taste.

You will not only find it yummy and be wanting more but also experience the richness of the community in this dish. A unique identity and delicious taste, Momo will have that effect on you where you can’t help but drool on the thought of having it again.

If there is a country’s flag that stands out among all other countries it is the flag of Nepal . Our flag is very unique and cannot be compared to other countries’ flags due to its shape. It also has a hidden meaning behind it which represents the country’s peace-loving and friendly nature, bravery, and immortal history.

My country Nepal is situated between two countries, India and China. Although it is sandwiched between international powers, conflicts have not happened between any, and peace remains. Nepal is a country of various castes and cultures. In other words, it is like a beautiful garden of flowers with people of different ethnicities and backgrounds.

My country Nepal is not only unique for its flag but also its geographical terrain, the variety of castes and cultures you can find, and the rich history of it. It is the land of various great places and important figures that people know far and wide. The temperature here spans from cool to hot and is a heaven for residing in.

There are about 126 castes in Nepal each with its own rich history and culture which makes Nepal a rich place for culture. Some dating back to the millenniums. Not only that, our country is very rich in its geographical terrain. From the lowest point of just 70 Meters from sea level to the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest (8848.86 meters) , we have temperature scales that vary from place to place. It is divided into three regions, Terai, Hilly, and Himalayas each according to their altitude and geographical differences.

Himalayan regions have high and mighty Himalayas that are breathtaking to look at. Out of the world’s top 10 highest peaks, 8 of them fall in my country. It is already a great pride to have come from such a country. The diverse flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes, lush and green jungles, historical and religious places in Nepal are enough to gather the attention of foreigners and locals too. People from all over the world pay thousands of dollars just to see our country’s snow-capped mountains, rivers, cliffs, waterfalls, other beautiful landscapes, the rich flora and fauna, and sites of great religious and historical importance. It just doesn’t end there.

Our country ranks in the top 5 for the richest in water resources. With just a small country with an area of 1,47,181 sq kilometers, it has the potential to fuel hydropower worth 2% of the entire world. It may look small in number but taking our country’s small area in context, it is a potential incomparable to all. The Terai region holds fertile land and smooth flowing waters that are excellent for farming and cultivating.

Nepal is also known as an agricultural country where 60% of the people here follow agriculture as their work. Our country also has huge historical importance. Gautama Buddha the founder and preacher of Buddhism which is practiced worldwide was also born in Nepal. Buddhism is known to preach peace and non-violence and to love everyone. King Janak is also an important figure who holds great importance to communities in Nepal.

Other personalities include Bhrikuti, Araniko, etc. Our country is also known for its bravery. Our country never has to celebrate Independence day as we were never under the rule of any other. We stood and fought against the Britans and other Mongol countries. Brave Gorkhalis were united after a long struggle and fought their way to preserve their country. The courage and bravery of Nepali people are also know world wide. Many brave Gorkhalis went to fight under countries in world wars and won various colors and medals. This brought our country so much respect that we even enjoy it for granted to date.

Although our country’s history, culture, terrains, and achievements make anyone feel proud, the power struggle for the politicians, previous kings, and presidents have made the country weak and fall in the developing country category. Our rich natural resources have not been utilized and we have fallen way behind. Corruption is widely prevalent in our country and the loans we have taken from other countries are in a large number. The amount of food and other materialistic consumption has made Nepal import more and export less.

Our country is poor but the people here are rich. This is because of the corruption and the illegal working/trading that has been done. The government has not made significant progress and the people aren’t responsible. Although I feel proud to be A Nepali, the condition of my country makes me feel bad. People should feel responsible and carry out their duties and not just complain about the government.

The government too should implement proper policies and rules and enforce them accordingly. Utilization of our natural resources should be done in an effective way and social evils such as discrimination according to castes and genders, other superstitions should be slowly removed. Centralized development should stop and we should control the people moving out to other countries with their skills that are wasted abroad. This way we can slowly develop our country.
