Synonyms of methodology

proposed methodology in marathi

In its most common sense, methodology is the study of research methods. However, the term can also refer to the methods themselves or to the philosophical discussion of associated background assumptions. A method is a structured procedure for bringing about a certain goal, like acquiring knowledge or verifying knowledge claims. This normally involves various steps, like choosing a sample, collecting data from this sample, and interpreting the data. The study of methods concerns a detailed description and analysis of these processes. It includes evaluative aspects by comparing different methods. This way, it is assessed what advantages and disadvantages they have and for what research goals they may be used. These descriptions and evaluations depend on philosophical background assumptions. Examples are how to conceptualize the studied phenomena and what constitutes evidence for or against them. When understood in the widest sense, methodology also includes the discussion of these more abstract issues.

Machine translation (MT) is a term used to describe computerized systems that generate translations from one linguistic communication to another, either with or without the need of humans. Text can be used to evaluate knowledge and converting that information to visuals can help in communication and information acquisition. There have been limited attempts to analyze the performance of state-of-the-art NMT algorithms on Indian languages, with a significant number of attempts in translating English to Hindi, Tamil and Bangla. The paper explores alternative strategies for dealing with low-resource hassle in neural machine translation (NMT), with a particular focus on the English-Marathi NMT pair. To provide high-quality translations, NMT algorithms involve a large number of parallel corpora. In order to tackle the low-resource dilemma, NMT models have been trained, along with transformers and attention models, as well as try hands-on sequence-to-sequence models. The data has been trained for sentence limit of 50 words and then fine-tune the default parameters of these NMT models to obtain the most optimum results and translations.

How to Write a Research Proposal | Examples & Templates

Published on October 12, 2022 by Shona McCombes and Tegan George. Revised on November 21, 2023.

Structure of a research proposal

A research proposal describes what you will investigate, why it’s important, and how you will conduct your research.

The format of a research proposal varies between fields, but most proposals will contain at least these elements:

Literature review.

  • Research design

Reference list

While the sections may vary, the overall objective is always the same. A research proposal serves as a blueprint and guide for your research plan, helping you get organized and feel confident in the path forward you choose to take.

Table of contents

Research proposal purpose, research proposal examples, research design and methods, contribution to knowledge, research schedule, other interesting articles, frequently asked questions about research proposals.

Academics often have to write research proposals to get funding for their projects. As a student, you might have to write a research proposal as part of a grad school application , or prior to starting your thesis or dissertation .

In addition to helping you figure out what your research can look like, a proposal can also serve to demonstrate why your project is worth pursuing to a funder, educational institution, or supervisor.

Research proposal length

The length of a research proposal can vary quite a bit. A bachelor’s or master’s thesis proposal can be just a few pages, while proposals for PhD dissertations or research funding are usually much longer and more detailed. Your supervisor can help you determine the best length for your work.

One trick to get started is to think of your proposal’s structure as a shorter version of your thesis or dissertation , only without the results , conclusion and discussion sections.

Discover proofreading & editing

Writing a research proposal can be quite challenging, but a good starting point could be to look at some examples. We’ve included a few for you below.

  • Example research proposal #1: “A Conceptual Framework for Scheduling Constraint Management”
  • Example research proposal #2: “Medical Students as Mediators of Change in Tobacco Use”

Like your dissertation or thesis, the proposal will usually have a title page that includes:

  • The proposed title of your project
  • Your supervisor’s name
  • Your institution and department

The first part of your proposal is the initial pitch for your project. Make sure it succinctly explains what you want to do and why.

Your introduction should:

  • Introduce your topic
  • Give necessary background and context
  • Outline your  problem statement  and research questions

To guide your introduction , include information about:

  • Who could have an interest in the topic (e.g., scientists, policymakers)
  • How much is already known about the topic
  • What is missing from this current knowledge
  • What new insights your research will contribute
  • Why you believe this research is worth doing

As you get started, it’s important to demonstrate that you’re familiar with the most important research on your topic. A strong literature review  shows your reader that your project has a solid foundation in existing knowledge or theory. It also shows that you’re not simply repeating what other people have already done or said, but rather using existing research as a jumping-off point for your own.

In this section, share exactly how your project will contribute to ongoing conversations in the field by:

  • Comparing and contrasting the main theories, methods, and debates
  • Examining the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches
  • Explaining how will you build on, challenge, or synthesize prior scholarship

Following the literature review, restate your main  objectives . This brings the focus back to your own project. Next, your research design or methodology section will describe your overall approach, and the practical steps you will take to answer your research questions.

To finish your proposal on a strong note, explore the potential implications of your research for your field. Emphasize again what you aim to contribute and why it matters.

For example, your results might have implications for:

  • Improving best practices
  • Informing policymaking decisions
  • Strengthening a theory or model
  • Challenging popular or scientific beliefs
  • Creating a basis for future research

Last but not least, your research proposal must include correct citations for every source you have used, compiled in a reference list . To create citations quickly and easily, you can use our free APA citation generator .

Some institutions or funders require a detailed timeline of the project, asking you to forecast what you will do at each stage and how long it may take. While not always required, be sure to check the requirements of your project.

Here’s an example schedule to help you get started. You can also download a template at the button below.

Download our research schedule template

If you are applying for research funding, chances are you will have to include a detailed budget. This shows your estimates of how much each part of your project will cost.

Make sure to check what type of costs the funding body will agree to cover. For each item, include:

  • Cost : exactly how much money do you need?
  • Justification : why is this cost necessary to complete the research?
  • Source : how did you calculate the amount?

To determine your budget, think about:

  • Travel costs : do you need to go somewhere to collect your data? How will you get there, and how much time will you need? What will you do there (e.g., interviews, archival research)?
  • Materials : do you need access to any tools or technologies?
  • Help : do you need to hire any research assistants for the project? What will they do, and how much will you pay them?

Once you’ve decided on your research objectives , you need to explain them in your paper, at the end of your problem statement .

Keep your research objectives clear and concise, and use appropriate verbs to accurately convey the work that you will carry out for each one.

I will compare …

A research aim is a broad statement indicating the general purpose of your research project. It should appear in your introduction at the end of your problem statement , before your research objectives.

Research objectives are more specific than your research aim. They indicate the specific ways you’ll address the overarching aim.

A PhD, which is short for philosophiae doctor (doctor of philosophy in Latin), is the highest university degree that can be obtained. In a PhD, students spend 3–5 years writing a dissertation , which aims to make a significant, original contribution to current knowledge.

A PhD is intended to prepare students for a career as a researcher, whether that be in academia, the public sector, or the private sector.

A master’s is a 1- or 2-year graduate degree that can prepare you for a variety of careers.

All master’s involve graduate-level coursework. Some are research-intensive and intend to prepare students for further study in a PhD; these usually require their students to write a master’s thesis . Others focus on professional training for a specific career.

Critical thinking refers to the ability to evaluate information and to be aware of biases or assumptions, including your own.

Like information literacy , it involves evaluating arguments, identifying and solving problems in an objective and systematic way, and clearly communicating your ideas.

The best way to remember the difference between a research plan and a research proposal is that they have fundamentally different audiences. A research plan helps you, the researcher, organize your thoughts. On the other hand, a dissertation proposal or research proposal aims to convince others (e.g., a supervisor, a funding body, or a dissertation committee) that your research topic is relevant and worthy of being conducted.

Isolated spoken Hindi digits recognition performances have been evaluated using Matlab and HTK (Hidden Markov Model Toolkit). In both cases MFCC (Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient) and HMM (Hidden Markov Model) has been used as feature extraction technique and classifier respectively. Experiments were performed for both clean as well as noisy data. In this experiment car noise, F16 noise, Factory noise and Speech noises have been added to clean signal to make noisy signal at different SNR levels. The recognition performance of isolated Hindi digits with HTK was better than with Matlab for both noisy and clean environments.

This paper describes the approach followed for development of speech database of Marathi digits starting from Shunya (zero) up to Nau (nine). The following paper describes the step by step procedure followed for the development of the speech database. For the development of automatic speech recognition (ASR) it is necessary to have a speech databases and the recognition rate depends upon the quality of the used speech databases. I. INTRODUCTION Speech is the way communication between humans where human can share their information with each other. The researchers around the world are trying to develop new interface system for communication between human and computer. Speech is having the capability of being used as a mode of interaction between human and Computer. Estimated number of languages spoken around the world varies between 6,000 and 7,000. Language technologies can play a vital role in the natural interfaces for those who can't understand the particular language. The lan...

In this work we do Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) for Gujarati digits using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The feature extraction from the speech signals, for the required purpose, is done using Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC). The extracted features are used in training of ANN, which later recognises the unknown speech signal. The recognised digit is outputted as an image of digit written in Gujarati language and its equivalent sign language image. Computations and experimental results are verified by the programs in MATLAB. Such an interface would be useful for person with disabilities and also for illiterate people.

This paper evaluates comparative recognition performance of Linear Predictive Coefficients (LPC), Linear Predictive Cepstral Coefficient (LPCC), Perceptual Linear Prediction Coefficients (PLP), Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) and Wavelet coefficients. These features have been tested for speaker independent isolated Punjabi digits recognition. The comparative study of recognition performance of LPC, LPCC, PLP, MFCC and Wavelet coefficients has been studied. The recognition performance of PLP is better than LPC and LPCC coefficients. The recognition performance of LPCC coefficients is 4.2% better than LPC. The recognition performance of PLP is 10.95% better than LPCC coefficient. And MFCC coefficient gives 2.76% better performance than PLP. Wavelet Coefficients gives 14.79% better recognition performance than MFCC. A classifier is implemented by using Hidden Markov Model (HMM) on MATLAB for training and testing of Punjabi digits.

Professor (Dr.) Ratnadeep R . Deshmukh

Speech is the way of communication among the human beings and speech recognition is most interesting area of research from last five decades. Speech recognition is the problem of pattern matching so classification is important part of speech recognition. To develop database Voice signals are sampled directly from the microphone. The proposed method is implemented for Marathi isolated word. 100 words are collected from Marathi language. ASR implemented for 100 speakers give three utterances of 100 words. The features from the signals are extracted using Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT) because they are well suitable for processing non-stationary signals like speech because of their multiresolutional, multi-scale analysis characteristics. Speech recognition is a multiclass classification problem. So, the feature vector set obtained are classified using Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). During classification stage, the input feature vector data is trained using information relating to...

IJERT Journal Speech synthesis and speech recognition are the area of interest for computer scientists. More and more researchers are working to make computer understand naturally spoken language. For International language like English this technology has grown to a matured level. Here in this paper we present a model which recognize Gujarati numeral spoken by speaker and convert it into machine editable text of numeral. The proposed model makes use of Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) as a feature set and K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) as classifier. The proposed model achieved average success rate of Gujarati spoken numeral is about 78.13%.

Computer Science & Information Technology (CS & IT) Computer Science Conference Proceedings (CSCP)

This paper presents a baseline digits speech recognizer for Hindi language. The recording environment is different for all speakers, since the data is collected in their respective homes. The different environment refers to vehicle horn noises in some road facing rooms, internal background noises in some rooms like opening doors, silence in some rooms etc. All these recordings are used for training acoustic model. The Acoustic Model is trained on 8 speakers’ audio data. The vocabulary size of the recognizer is 10 words. HTK toolkit is used for building acoustic model and evaluating the recognition rate of the recognizer. The efficiency of the recognizer developed on recorded data, is shown at the end of the paper and possible directions for future research work are suggested.

ABSTRACT A novel method for recognition of isolated spoken words on an 8-bit microprocessor is presented. The method uses a new but simple feature vector based on the zero-crossings of the speech signal. The feature vector is the histogram of the time-interval between successive zero-crossings of the speech signal. Dynamic time warping is used to calculate a time-aligned normalized distance between the feature vector and the reference templates.
