Pokemon Go: How to Get Meteorites & Mega Evolve Rayquaza

Image of Zack Palm

Mega Pokemon are some of the best Pokemon you can get while playing Pokemon Go. They’re incredibly powerful, although you can only use them every so often. However, having them stashed in your inventory is a good idea, and one of the better ones to add to your collection is Mega Rayquaza.

Mega Rayquaza is unlike the other Mega Pokemon in that there are a few requirements that you need to meet before one can go through the Mega evolution. One of these requirements is finding Meteorites, and these are tricky to track down. Here’s what you need to know about how to get Meteorites and how to Mega Evolve Rayquaza in Pokemon Go.

Where to Find Meteorites in Pokemon Go

pokemon go meteorite research tasks

Meteorites will not be an easy item to acquire in Pokemon Go. Right now, they only appear during the Pokemon Go Fest 2023 event. They originally appeared during the special in-person event weekends, and then they’re appearing during the global event, set to occur from August 26, 2023, to August 27, 2023 .

They are set as rewards for completing the Special Timed Research that Pokemon Go ticket holders for Go Fest 2023 can acquire. If you do not have these Special Research tasks, unfortunately, acquiring the Meteorites won’t happen. However, they might appear later in the future in other Pokemon Go events that have yet to be announced. They will likely also appear in Special Research tasks.

The only Pokemon in Pokemon Go that can use these Meteorites is Rayquaza. When you get it to one, it learns the move Dragon Ascent, which unlocks Rayquaza’s Mega Evolution . Without this item, Rayquaza will not be able to Mega Evolve.

How to Mega Evolve Rayquaza in Pokemon Go

The big requirements for Rayquaza to Mega Evolve in Pokemon Go are to ensure it’s received a Meteorite and knows the move, Dragon Ascent. This is a powerful, Charged Attack move exclusive to Rayquaza, and it should have the chance to Mega Evolve. The last step you need to complete is rounding up the Mega Rayquaza Energy.

You can earn Mega Rayquaza Energy by challenging it to Mega Raids. These will appear in Pokemon Go at set times, debuting during Pokemon Go Fest 2023. These initially occurred in the in-person events, and later in the global Pokemon Go Fest 2023 event. So long as you have at least one Rayquaza with Dragon Ascent and Mega Rayquaza Energy, it should be able to Mega Evolve.

Pokemon GO: How to Get Meteorite

Image of Ashley Erickson

Meteorite is a new item exclusive released during Pokemon GO Fest 2023. Debuting along with Mega Rayquaza, it’s a necessary item for any Legendary Pokemon collector. Whether you’re attending an event now or strategizing for the future, here’s how to get Meteorite in PoGO .

How to Get Meteorite in Pokemon GO

Since Meteorite is a Pokemon GO Fest item, you’re only able to obtain it by participating in associated events. Just load up the game, and the quest will pop up. You’ll be awarded a single Meteorite for finishing all the tasks and stages, along with other rewards.

  • For ticket holders , you’ll be able to get a Meteorite just for attending. You’ll also be able to grab some by completing Special Research tasks that are given while there.
  • For the rest of us who don’t have tickets, we’ll be able to get our Meteorite by completing Special Research given during the Global event on August 26 and 27.

What is Metorite Used for in Pokemon GO

Rayquaza in the main games requires knowing a certain move, Dragon Ascent , before it’s able to Mega evolve. This remains the same in PoGO. In order to learn Dragon Ascent, a Charged Attack, Rayquaza needs to be given a Meteorite. That’s right. You only need one Meteorite to teach Rayquaza Dragon Ascent and enable its Mega evolution.

That’s how to get Meteorite in Pokemon GO . Ready your team to take on Mega Rayquaza raids, attempt to catch a Shiny Cresselia, or just veg out with Grass-type Pokemon during the upcoming Glittering Garden event. We also have PoGO guides that cover various battle league teams, the rarest Shiny Pokemon, and more.

Special Research List

Special Research Lines come in two main flavors: Unlimited and Limited. Unlimited lines unlock at specific points in the game, and  are available to complete at the player's leisure. Limited lines have specific requirements to unlock such as playing during a specific time period, and may or may not have a time-limit.

Unlimited Special Research

Research System Breakdown

Research Tasks are divided into four categories:

  • Field Research - Single-objective goals such as spinning PokeStops and catching Pokemon that reward items and one "stamp" (1 per day). These are the tasks outlined above.
  • Special Research - Story based multi-objective goals such as catching and transferring Pokemon that have unknown rewards
  • Paid Research  - Similar to Special Research, but a ticket must be purchased in order to actually enjoy these Research lines. These are frequently tied to events or seasons.
  • Research Breakthrough - Rewards based on collecting stamps that reward Stardust, items, and a Pokemon encounter.

Task Mechanics

A trainer can hold up to 3 tasks at a time, 4 including an AR task. Also, trainers can trash a task if they do not want to try to complete it.

Trainers receive tasks from spinning PokeStops, and each Pokestop gives the same task to all trainers during the day. If the reward is an encounter, all trainers receive the same species (though IVs will differ). If you get a task on Monday from a stop and don’t clear it until Tuesday, you will not be able to get a task from that same PokeStop on Tuesday as once you receive a task, you will not receive another one from that PokeStop. However, if you delete a task, you can go back to that stop later in the day to get it again.

Various events frequently have their own unique set of tasks with event-themed rewards. Community Days in particular bend the Research rule a bit, as the research assigned to each Stop for the day changes to Community Day-themed research for the duration of the event, and revert back to normal after the event. Note that completing research from a given stop at any point during a given day will cause it to remain claimed for the rest of said day regardless of event-themed task changes.

Tasks give a variety of rewards, often based on the challenge you had to complete. Rewards can be encounters, Stardust, or items such as balls, potions, revives, TMs, and Rare Candy. Generally, more difficult tasks will have higher rewards.

Encounters from tasks are level 15 Pokemon with IVs of at least 10 in all 3 stats. After clearing an encounter task, you will be taken to the encounter. The Pokemon will not be weather boosted regardless of the in-game weather. You can run from the encounter and come back to it in the future.

Once you clear an encounter task, you can immediately collect a new task. Interestingly enough, you can save a large number of encounters! Some trainers do this and choose to catch them during a Lucky Egg or Star Piece session.

Each day when you complete your first task, you receive a Research Stamp. When you have 7 stamps, you will receive a Research Breakthrough.

Research Breakthrough rewards change each season.

General Tips

Special research tasks do not give a daily stamp - only field research does Minimum level for Special Research is level 5 Pokemon encounters appear to be at level Many players have a “refill loop” or “grind loop” of stops and gyms in their PoGo lives, often one they hit multiple times each day.. If you have the option, add a second loop. Having multiple loops will greatly increase the number of tasks seen Try to keep one open task so you can always pick a new one up when you visit a Pokestop for the first time in a day. Find a network of players to report tasks, perhaps through your raid chat of choice. You won’t be able to check every stop, so if people call out TM, Rare Candy or Chansey quests it can really help. Some communities have focused on calling out Charmander encounter quests. This is a great way to farm high IV Pokemon before a community day. Some encounters have very large hit-boxes. Save these for when you are working on a 3 excellent or 3 great throw in a row quest. Try not to hold more than 1 long term quest. Remember there is an opportunity cost to holding 3 “Catch a Ditto for 3 Rare Candy” tasks. Obviously the payoff is awesome, but in the meantime you are missing out on so many other potential rewards from other tasks you cannot get. Don’t miss a day of Research Progress. If you don’t think you can play much tomorrow, leave one task unclaimed today. Tomorrow you can wake up, claim the task, and make progress towards your Research Breakthrough. Consider weather, biome, and active events when deciding whether to keep or delete a task. You likely aren’t going to quickly complete the “3 Pidgey or Murkrow” task on a sunny day during a rock event, but you should blow through “catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost” on a cloudy day during a fighting event. If you don’t throw excellents well, it’s not the end of the world to toss a task requiring an excellent throw. Holding on to tasks without substantial rewards for a long period of time is a big mistake. In general, take your playstyle into account when deciding to keep or delete a task. Do you battle gyms constantly? Then the Minium task isn’t bad as you will quickly turn it over. Did you already use your raid pass for the day? Then don’t hold on to that “Defeat a level 3 raid for some potions” type tasks. Free to play? Then the hatch 3 eggs” quest is probably an easy one to delete. Have a task that you know you cannot complete quickly at a stop near your house? Well trash that task while you grind. Then as you return home you can grab it later in the day. That way you can cycle through more tasks without it clogging your inventory. Remember that reward encounters and the Research Breakthrough reward have a 0% flee rate. Use pinaps liberally! Keep track of local nests. “Catch 3 Bugs” is much easier when you know there is a Caterpie nest a couple blocks away.

How To Get a Meteorite in Pokemon GO A guide on Getting a Meteorite in Pokemon GO

How To Get a Meteorite in Pokemon GO A guide on Getting a Meteorite in Pokemon GO

Credits - Niantic

Pokemon Go Fest 2023 promises to be an exciting event, and one of the most sought-after rewards is the legendary Dragon, Mega Rayquaza. This Mega version of Rayquaza, first introduced in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, was a formidable force in the competitive scene until it was eventually banned. Now, players have a chance to obtain Mega Rayquaza in Pokemon GO, but it comes with a twist – the need for a special in-game item called Meteorite to achieve this evolution. In this guide, we will explore how trainers can get their hands on Meteorites and fulfill the dream of Mega Evolving Rayquaza.

The Enigmatic History of Mega Rayquaza:

Mega Rayquaza’s history is a complex one. Originally, it appeared as a Mega form in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, where it dominated the competitive environment. However, due to its overwhelming power, it was later banned. Now, Mega Rayquaza is making its way to Pokemon GO, presenting an exciting opportunity for trainers to harness its extraordinary strength.

Acquiring Meteorites:

To Mega Evolve Rayquaza in Pokemon GO, players must first teach it the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent. The key to teaching this move lies in obtaining Meteorites, a new in-game item. Fortunately, trainers attending Go Fest 2023 or completing certain Special Research tasks during the event will be eligible to receive Meteorites. Specifically, trainers attending the live events in London, New York, and Osaka will have a chance to obtain Meteorites, while others can earn them by accomplishing designated research tasks.

Unlocking Mega Evolution:

Similar to its Mega Evolution process in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Mega Rayquaza’s evolution in Pokemon GO relies on learning the signature move Dragon Ascent. This Charged Attack can be taught to Rayquaza using Meteorites, making the acquisition of these items even more critical for trainers aspiring to unlock Mega Evolution.

Global GO Fest and Mega Rayquaza Raids:

Meteorites will be available during the Global GO Fest event, with ticket-holders having early access. Trainers need a ticket for the special research task that rewards them with Meteorites. During this time, players can expect to encounter Mega Rayquaza in Raids held in London, Osaka, and New York. Only ticket-holders will receive Mega Energy upon defeating Mega Rayquaza in these Raids.

Global Debut of Mega Rayquaza:

For all Pokemon Go players, the much-anticipated global debut of Mega Rayquaza in Raids will occur on Sunday, August 27, 2023. As a special bonus, all players who log into Pokemon Go on this day will receive a new Special Research quest that grants a Meteorite upon completion. This item is a crucial requirement for Mega Evolving Rayquaza.

Mega Rayquaza’s Advantages:

The Mega Evolution of Rayquaza brings several advantages to trainers. As the Mega Level increases with successive Mega Evolutions, catching Flying, Dragon, or Psychic-type Pokemon will yield additional XP, Candy, and an increased chance of Candy XL. Moreover, while in battle at a Gym or Raid, Mega Rayquaza enhances the damage dealt by other Trainers’ Pokemon in the same area. Attacks from Flying, Dragon, or Psychic-type moves will receive an additional damage boost.

Conclusion:

With the highly anticipated Pokemon Go Fest 2023 on the horizon, trainers around the world are eagerly preparing for the chance to obtain Mega Rayquaza, the legendary Dragon. To achieve this powerful Mega Evolution, trainers need to obtain Meteorites through Special Research tasks or by attending Go Fest events in London, New York, or Osaka. Once equipped with a Meteorite, they can teach Rayquaza the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent, unlocking its Mega Evolution potential. With Mega Rayquaza’s arrival, Pokemon GO players can look forward to exciting battles and enhanced rewards, making their journey as trainers more thrilling than ever before.

All Pokémon Go Fest 2023 Global Research tasks and rewards

Image of Cale Michael

While Pokémon Go Fest 2023 Global is bigger than the in-person events based on sheer number of players participating, Niantic has shifted some content around to make it unique. This did result in some Special Research being highlighted while some other research was removed.

The main point of the Go Fest Global Special Research is to give players access to various exclusive bonuses if they purchase an event ticket. This includes the first chance to catch Diancie and rewards tied to Mega Diancie and Mega Rayquaza.

This version of the Diancie Special Research is different to how it was back during the in-person Go Fest content in Osaka, London, and New York City—mainly because players aren’t going to be limited to where they can be at specific hours of the day. So if you need to complete everything to do with Go Fest Global, here are all of the relevant research tasks, rewards, and additional event bonuses.

Pokémon Go Bug Out 2024: all Research Tasks

Why did it have to be bugs?

  • Author: Marco Wutz

Hope you’re not grossed out by virtual bugs crawling all over your screen, because the latest Pokémon Go event, Bug Out 2024, is basically like being thrown into a pit filled with insects – well, you can banish them into your Poké Balls, at least.

Starting on April 12, 2024, at 10am local time and lasting until April 17, 2024, 8pm local time, this is the perfect event for those bug freaks you always find in the mainline games.

On the bright side, Bug Out comes with a variety of neat bonuses – double XP for catching with Nice Throws or better, additional Candy for Nice Throws or better, and an increased chance for Candy XL for Nice Throws or better. Yeah, it’s about time you practiced your throwing game. In addition, the event comes with exclusive Field Research and Collection Challenges to complete.

Find all Pokémon Go Bug Out 2024 tasks and rewards below.

Pokémon Go Bug Out 2024: Field Research Tasks

Field Research Tasks can be acquired by spinning PokéStops during the event’s runtime, which ends on April 17, 2024, at 8pm local time. Once you’ve got them in your storage of tasks, you can complete them whenever you want, so there’s no time pressure involved.
