I Dream Of Pizza A Pizza Blog, Established In 2008

Why i love pizza – a personal essay about my favorite food.

Posted by: I Dream Of Pizza in Miscellaneous November 21, 2008

Ever since I was a little boy, pizza has always had a special place in my heart. From pizza day in the school cafeteria to pizza parties at sleep away camp, there was nothing more exciting than when that cardboard box was opened to reveal a round pie with eight delicious slices waiting to be devoured.

Early on I learned that everybody eats their pizza differently. There are those who fold their slices in half, those who eat their slices with two hands, and those who (dare I say) like to cut their pizza with a fork and knife. Some people soak up the olive oil with a napkin, while others don’t mind a greasy slice. Some people like the crust, while others live for that first bite. Some people decorate their slices with spices, while others like it plain.

Nearly any ingredient can be put on pizza. From pepperoni and anchovies to barbecue chicken and pineapple, every pizza pie is like a unique work of art. Every pie is a different shape and size. There are thin crust pies, deep dish pies, and everything in between. There are pies with different cheeses and tomato sauce, or even pies with a completely different base altogether.

Growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC there weren’t so many great options for pizza. Ordering in from Domino’s and Pizza Hut was a weekly occurrence. But when I arrived in New York in 2002, I was thrust into an entirely new pizza universe.

Living at an NYU dorm by Washington Square Park, I developed a quick allegiance with my local pizzerias. I could barely walk a block without passing by a shop — many of them claiming to serve up the best slice in the city. There was Joe’s on the corner of Bleecker Street and Carmine Street (which closed it’s doors in 2004) where tipsy students, homeless people, and even celebrities made their way to the counter through the wee hours of the morning. I remember eating a slice of pizza with Dave Chappelle one evening after he’d finished up a set at the nearby Comedy Cellar. Joe’s served up a good slice, but it was about more than the food. Going there was an adventure. It was where old friends would run into each other and new friends were made. You couldn’t help but notice the non-stop hustle and bustle around you — but at the same time there was sense satisfaction once you took your first bite of their delicious slices.

Within a five minute walk from my dorm, there were dozens of pizza places and I intended to try them all. I fell in love with many including Pizza Booth on Bleecker Street and The Pizzeria on MacDougal Street. I remember the night I ran into Adam Sandler at Ben’s Pizza on the corner of MacDougal and 3rd Street and the first time I went to Pasty’s Pizzeria on University Place — the final meal I ate in 2002.

Patsy’s opened my eyes to a whole other world of pizza — the upscale pie. I had always thought that a New York slice was served on a paper plate — intended for a quick late night bite on your way between watering holes. But I soon came to learn that many of city’s best pizza places didn’t serve slices and that eating their pizza involved a great deal of patience while your custom pie was prepared.

The fall of 2003 took me to what is still one of my favorite pizza places in the New York: Grimaldi’s . Although there is a subway stop a few blocks from this Brooklyn pizzeria, the only true way to get there is by walking over the Brooklyn Bridge, arguably the most picturesque ways to take in New York’s sprawling skyline. To me, a walk over the bridge and Grimaldi’s have become synonymous with one another. I can’t walk across the bridge without stopping at Grimaldi’s and I can’t stop at Grimaldi’s without walking across the bridge. This is the first thing I do with any out-of-town guest. It’s just off the beaten path enough to make a tourist feel like a New Yorker, yet not so touristy that a New Yorker feels out of place. It is the quintessential New York experience.

There have been days when I’ve been seated at Grimaldi’s right away and other times where I’ve waited behind hundreds of people outside in the cold. When you’re inside, the best view of the action is in the bathroom line, adjacent to the brick ovens where pies are constantly being removed, put on a platter, and placed on a nearby table as the steam still rises off the top. The pizza is thin enough that two people can split a large pie. In fact, ordering the small pie for $2 less is not even economical.

There is no better place to digest Grimaldi’s than on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade overlooking lower Manhattan. It’s the only place in the city that I can be assured to find at least one bride and groom snapping photos every time I’m there. On weekend afternoons it’s common to see five or six couples taking wedding photos. Walking back on the bridge, one feels content, satisfied, accomplished, and [insert positive feeling here]. There are few experiences that rival this.

The spring of 2004 took me to Italy where I spent a semester studying in Florence. At the time, I was not a big foodie, so I rarely kept track of where I ate. Today, however, if I was to return, my entire trip would be dictated by food. Although Florence is a very Americanized city, my apartment was a 20 minute walk from the center of town. One evening, while exploring the area around our apartment, my roommates and I discovered a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant on a hidden side street. There wasn’t a single English speaking person in the entire place and there was no English version of the menu. Although I have no idea what this place was named, I know how to get back there and one day plan to return. Their pizza pies were large, but so thin that everyone needed their own. Their pies were more closely resembled the shape of a puddle in the street than a geometric figure. Of the dozen times I dined there, my pizza never looked the same. I think about this place a lot — whether it still exists, what it was actually called, whether any other tourists every discovered it. But most of all, I’m upset that I can’t tell people traveling to Florence how to find it. I need to get back there for the sake of this pizza place.

Upon returning from Italy, I moved to the east side of Manhattan where I inherited a completely new set of local pizza places. Nino’s Pizza on the corner of St. Marks Place and Avenue A became a favorite along with Pizzanini on the corner of 2nd Avenue and St. Marks Place. There were drunken nights spent in Due Amici on 3rd Avenue and 12th Street and Two Boots on Avenue A and 3rd Street. I never really developed a favorite place in the East Village. All these pizzerias served solid New York slices. Pizza continued to remain an important part of my diet and determining which place to eat at was solely based on where I was when my pizza craving hit.

As my love for pizza deepened, I began to do more research online about where I could find the city’s best pie. All sources pointed to the same place – Di Fara – a modest shop in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn that has been serving its heavenly pizza for more than 40 years. It’s owned and run by Dom De Marco. He makes every single pie himself, working 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week. Apparently he takes 3 ½ days off a year. If he’s sick, the shop is closed. It shut its door for a few weeks in 1988 when De Marco went to Italy and another time in 2006 when he had foot surgery. The lines have been known to stretch for hours as he gives every single pie his undivided attention. He likes to know who every pizza is for before serving it to them. Watching him make a pie is like watching an artist paint a painting – in slow motion. He uses a hand grater for the cheese and meticulously smears the tomato sauce on the dough.

I made my first trip out there in the fall of 2006 and taking my first bit of pizza at Di Fara changed my life forever. Not only was it the best slice of pizza I’d ever eaten (and still remains so), but I honestly can say it was the best food I’d ever consumed. There is no description that could do each bite justice. Only a few steps away from the Flatbush Avenue stop on the Q train, it’s about 45 minutes from Midtown Manhattan. It’s a place that every New Yorker should go. I can only hope that De Marco continues to churn out his mouth watering pies for years to come. For weeks after my visit I had dreams about the pizza on a nightly basis and only wish I could return there more often that I currently do.

In the spring of 2007 the blogosphere started to buzz about a new pizza place that opened on 14th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue. Lines were forming around the corner. And during peak hours, it’d be common to wait for more than an hour for a slice of the city’s most talked about new pizzeria. Artichoke Basille’s Pizza & Brewery reinvented my notion of a local pizzeria – primarily because it’s about a 60 second walk from my apartment. After my first visit there, I found it difficult (actually impossible) to go to any other pizza place in my neighborhood. Once that Artichoke craving hit, I knew where my last stop of the night would be before heading home. In fact, I still find it difficult to even walk by the shop without stopping in for a slice. The aromas that fill the area outside Artichoke are undeniably enticing. When I pass people on the street who are eating pizza, I lean over and take a big sniff of their slice – hoping to fill my sinuses with that signature Artichoke smell. If you couldn’t tell I’m a little obsessed.

Artichoke does it right. They have four kinds of slices – a square Sicilian slice, a classic Neapolitan slice, an artichoke-spinach slice, and a crab slice. All are delicious and so think and cheesy that they’re as filling as an entire meal. Now that the hype has dwindled down, so have the lines. A good thing for my taste buds, but a bad thing for my arteries.

Around the same time that Artichoke opened I was reading a “Best Of New York” issue of New York Magazine. They listed what they believed to be the best pizza place in each of the five boroughs. Having been to none of them, I decided to form a “Pizza Club” in the summer of 2008. The mission was simple: every other weekend we’d venture to a different pizza place on the list in an attempt to determine which borough truly has the best pizza. I couldn’t possibly imagine finding a better place than Di Fara in Brooklyn or Artichoke in Manhattan. Here’s where we went:

Brooklyn: Our first trip was to Franny’s on Flatbush Avenue in Prospect Heights. Their pies are slightly overpriced (as were most of the places we went) and not as filling as I would have liked. But tasty they were. I had the tomato and buffalo mozzarella pie. Not one of the best in Brooklyn, but a nice restaurant in a cute neighborhood that’s worth checking out.

Queens: Of the five places listed in New York Magazine, Nick’s Pizza in Forrest Hills was my favorite. Their pies were simple, yet uniformly excellent – a crispy crust, gooey mozzarella cheese, tangy marinara sauce, and a touch of fresh basil. We ordered one with mushrooms on top as well, a nice touch to an already solid pie.

The Bronx: It’s a trek up to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, but once you reach this strip of authentic Italian restaurants, you’ll feel like you’ve been thrust in the center of a quaint town in Tuscany. At Zero Otto Nove , we tried three pies: Margherita (tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil), Patate E Porcini (mozzarella, sliced potatoes and porcini mushrooms), and Quattro Formaggi (smoked mozzarella, gorgonzola, provolone and fresh mozzarella). I particularly enjoyed the last two which were more unusual combinations – a nice paring with the traditional Margherita pie.

Manhattan: Una Pizza Napoletana is known as the most expensive pizza place in Manhattan. At $21.95 for a 12-inch personal pizza, it’s hard to feel like you’re not getting ripped off. Our group tried all four pies they serve: bianca, marinara, margherita, and filetti. The bianca (buffalo mozzarella, olive oil, garlic, basil, and sea salt) was my favorite, but the steep prices make Artichoke, which is right around the corner, a more appealing option.

Staten Island: After a ride on the subway, ferry, and bus, we finally made our way to Joe & Pat’s , a famous establishment in the city’s forgotten borough. In addition to a traditional cheese pie, we tried a vodka pie, and a pesto pie with fresh tomatoes. Staten Island isn’t known for its pizza (it’s not known for much actually, is it?), so I would say the highlight was the adventure out there, not necessarily the pizza itself. Nevertheless, it was fun to dine alongside locals in one of the Island’s most famous pizza places.

The Pizza Club visited two other pizzerias at the end of the summer: L&B Spumoni Gardens in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn and Di Fara. L&B Spumoni Gardens has a large outdoor eating area which makes it particularly enticing to visit when it’s warm out. They’re known for their Sicilian slices which the group overwhelming enjoyed more than the regular slices. The thick square slices are overloaded with tomato sauce and are definitely worth the trip out there.

Little did I know I’d return to Staten Island for pizza in the fall of 2008 as part of a Staten Island pizza tour. This tour is one of the first offerings by a newly formed tourism department which was created in order to bring more New Yorkers out to the Island. In addition to stopping at four pizza places, we visit the Staten Island Zoo, the Wagner campus, and various historical sites on the Island. Our first pizza stop was at Jimmy Max, my favorite of the afternoon. Their pizza was served with fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, and basil leaves – pretty standard, but delicious nonetheless. After visiting Joe & Pat’s we made our way to Denino’s which reminded me of one of those sit-down Pizza Hut restaurants with waiter service. Not to compare their pies with those of Pizza Hut, but in a blind taste test, I’m not so sure Denino’s would stick out in my mind. The final stop was Lee’s Tavern, an unassuming bar on the corner of a quiet street. There isn’t even a name on the outside. We made our way to a backroom of the place where our already stuffed stomachs were filled with a final serving of pizza. At this point of the day it was hard to really rate the pies at Lee’s, but they seemed to be just as tasty as the rest of the pizza we’d been eating all afternoon. And with one final bite of crust, I was back on the ferry to Manhattan.

Pizza has obviously played a big role in my life. I eat it almost everyday and continue to keep my eyes and ears open for new places I’ve yet to try. Totonno’s in Coney Island is at the top of my list as far as New York pizza places go, after which I hope to work my way through some of the smaller neighborhoods of the outer boroughs in hopes of discovering some hidden gems. And one day I hope to visit Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix, Arizona where Pizzaiolo Chris Bianco makes pies that are considered by many to be the best in the country. But in the meantime, I’ve created this blog for pizza lovers. I’ll post any pizza content I come across, which is a lot, in hopes of creating the go-to website for all pizza related content for those who love pizza as much as I do.

The college admissions essay about Papa John’s Pizza that Yale loved, highlighted edition

i love pizza essay

Just a few months after her 18th birthday, Carolina Williams has suddenly hit the national spotlight for 196 words that she sent to Yale University.

“I never really understood the concept of viral until now,” she said.

I just want @PapaJohns to know that I wrote a college essay about how much I love to order their pizza and it got me into Yale 🍕👌 pic.twitter.com/lDlzEErHCn — Carolina Williams (@justcarolina22) May 9, 2017

The teenager from Brentwood, Tenn., wrote a college admissions essay about her love for Papa John’s Pizza.  (Click the yellow highlights for more.)

“When the delivery person rings my doorbell, I instantly morph into one of Pavlov’s dogs, salivating to the sound that signals the arrival of the cheesy, circular glory. It smells like celebration, as I love to rejoice a happy occasion by calling Papa John’s for my favorite food.”

Williams was admitted.

“I laughed so hard on your pizza essay. I kept thinking that you are the kind of person that I would love to be best friends with,” a Yale admissions officer wrote in an email.

Williams and her friends thought it would be funny to tweet the pizza company, which has responded with free pizzas and offers of an internship, she said. Then her local newspaper wrote a story  about it, and it took off from there .

That’s how we got here.

Speaking to The Washington Post from orientation at Auburn University in Alabama, Williams described her newfound fame.

“I’d walk into a place and they’d go, ‘Oh, it’s the pizza girl,’ which is a great reputation, honestly.”

They would also ask why she chose Auburn over Yale, she said.

“Auburn was just personally a better fit for me. I felt more at home here. It was just a gut feeling.”

When asked why she loves Papa John’s above all the other pizzas out there, Williams, who says she is the first person in her family to go to college, said that she will eat pretty much any pizza put in front of her but that something about Papa John’s brings her back.

“I’ve been ordering there since I was little. It’s such a classic to me.”

And I love their garlic sauce.”

The Yale University application essay: ( “Write about something that you love to do”)

The sound of my doorbell starts off high, then the pitch mellows out, and the whole effect mimics an instrumental interpretation of rain finally finding a steady pace at which to fall. I have spent several minutes analyzing its tone because I have had many opportunities to do so, as one thing I love to do is order pizza and have it delivered to my house. When the delivery person rings my doorbell, I instantly morph into one of Pavlov’s dogs, salivating to the sound that signals the arrival of the cheesy, circular glory. It smells like celebration, as I love to rejoice a happy occasion by calling Papa John’s for my favorite food. It tastes like comfort, since having pizza delivered to my quiet home is a way for me to unwind. It looks like self-sufficiency, because when I was young, ordering pizza made me feel grown-up, and it still provides that satisfaction for my child at heart. Accepting those warm cardboard boxes is second nature to me, but I will always love ordering pizza because of the way eight slices of something so ordinary are able to evoke feelings of independence, consolation, and joy.

Handwritten note on invitation letter to Yale’s Bulldog Saturday:

Congratulations on your acceptance and welcome to Yale! I absolutely loved reading your application. Your essay on reading 100 books in a year was so passionate, fun, and likable and, as a fellow lover of pizza, I laughed out loud (then ordered pizza) after reading your application. Yale would be lucky to have you, and I know …”

An Essay on My Favorite Food Pizza [PDF]

Yummy! Is not it? Today I’ll show you the example of an essay on Pizza.

pizza essay feature image

Pizza is an Italian dish with a round in shape made with a base of wheat dough on which, the toppings of tomato, onion, capsicum, corn, cheese, and chicken is put with contents of spices then baked in the oven at high-temperature and lastly served with chili flakes and oregano or seasonings.

It has a soft crust after it is baked with cheese and has mouth-watering taste savoring your tongue with spongy and different toppings on it. Pizzas are the best to have for lunch or dinner. It is easily available at affordable rates in many of the restaurants and cafes too.

The Italian dish, Pizza became my favorite when for the first time I had a margarita cheese pizza with extra cheese on it. It was a medium-sized pizza with servings for six people each or three people if they ate in pairs. The Pizza was hot and spongy to touch.

Its top layer was swollen and round shaped. I sprinkled chili flakes and oregano for great taste, and after this when I took a slice of pizza, the cheese was melting and gave yummy taste my tongue. With packed Pizza, inside it also had sachets of tomato sauce that I also tried on another slice of Pizza that I took.

Pizza is an easy dish to make at homes too. I had seen many videos on YouTube telling different ways to make Pizza, in which they had toppings of vegetables and corn too. People who are not having oven for baking, use a pressure cooker or a pan for baking their Pizza using various seasonings.

It could be easily ordered in any size like large for a group of friends or family, medium-sized for a small group and small-sized for an individual. They are made either in fresh pan or hand-tossed, whichever way we want we can have it.

There are up to more than 15 varieties of Pizza’s made to serve. There are three variations of Pizza that are Stromboli, panzerotti, and calzone.

Dominos and Pizza hut are the two main largest selling pizza restaurants with multiple varieties for vegetarians and non-vegetarians too. They are available in pizza mania with four slices. Side beverages are also available that could be ordered with pizza-like garlic bread, cold drinks or chocolate brownie.

Portions of pasta are also available in both the restaurants. However, they both have variations in price range’s as in Dominos you could get Pizza at reasonable rates but Pizza Hut might be a little bit costly for you to have your favorite Pizza or try new ones.

In today’s time being in every city, we have both these restaurants in every city or every area. With the commencement of these restaurants, they were not having online orderings before but with the advancement of technology they had made available online orderings and delivery services at your doorstep in just 30 minutes.

Not only these both restaurants but also various other restaurants are also opened servings different varieties of Pizza at affordable rates or sometimes high rates too.

Since Pizza is one of my favorite dishes that I love to eat so I must also keep in mind the contents and other fats present in it to prevent myself from harming my body as it could also lead to negative health effects causing digestive tract cancer or cardiovascular problems.

However, lycopene content is present in Pizza that provides a shield or protection from both these critical issues.

Pizzas are made with mouth-savoring taste and soft crush but could cause harm to your health if consumed excessively. Eating Pizza every day could damage your internal organs’ liver or could cause you digestive problems like stomach pain too.

It could create serious health problems and easily to children it could deteriorate their health, and to women, it could cause pregnancy issues creating too many hectic problems regarding their health status.

Pizza contains a high quantity of calories, and so it could cause severe damage to your body. So, a person should consume a pizza once or twice a month, only to remain healthy. It would save him or her from a high amount of fat and salt ingredient present in it.

My Favourite Food Pizza – Essay 1

Introduction.

From the cafeteria of my playschool to the canteen of my college, one thing always had a special place in my heart and it is pizza. From all small house parties to those big gatherings, one dish which I ever searched for was pizza. I was a little kid when I had my first pizza since then I am in love with this delicious dish. It’s a delightful dish that came from Mediterranean nations like turkey and Greece. It was invented in Italy Raffaele Esposito was a baker who made pizza for the first time.

Varieties of Pizza are being baked across the world. Every nation tried and twisted the recipe according to their taste. It has become the biggest appetizer across the globe. Pepperoni is one of the most popular types of pizza all around the world. It is found that every person in the USA consumes around 46 slices of pizza every year.

Origin of Pizza

Naples was a town in Italy where the first-ever modern pizza was invented. But interestingly, pizza has never created in Italy. The word pizza itself is being derived from a Greek word pektos, which means clotted. Delicious bread, which was covered with cheese, different oils, and spices that tasted amazing, was made. The turn in pizza history took place when the tomato was used the first time as saucing for it from here we got what we eat now the modern pizza. Antica pizzeria was the first-ever live pizza restaurant that served fresh pizza. It was situated in Naples in Italy.

How to prepare pizza?

Now let me tell you how to make this fantastic and delicious dish:

Ingredients-

  • And some salt

Preparation-

  • To make the dough, we need to mix flour, oil, salt, water together in a container. Then prepare the dough using your hands. Mix them very well until everything gets mixed up well, and the dough becomes soft.
  • And spread the dough like a circular sheet. Now the next thing we have to do is to prepare the toppings which will make the Pizza delicious. Get some mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, herbs, some tomato sauce over it. People may use other edibles as the topping over pizza for better taste.
  • Grind the cheese, chop the mushrooms. Now spread the sauce all over the circular dough, add the mushroom, and other toppings over it now put over the grated cheese all over the base.
  • The last and the final thing is to keep the prepared base inside the over for at least 15 minutes. And they’re the most fantastic pizza is ready to eat. Cut the pizza in slices and enjoy the taste. Serve it beautifully with pasta and garlic bread for a more unusual and delicious experience.

How to prepare the sauce?

The thing that makes pizza the most famous dish across the world is its sauce. So let’s see how to prepare the pizza sauce:

Ingredients

  • Some red vine tomatoes
  • Some big dried tomatoes
  • Red chilies
  • Virgin olive oil
  • Chopped garlic
  • Chopped onions
  • Rock salt and pepper
  • Some basil leaves
  • Tomato ketchup

And there we go. Let’s see how to make the sauce:

Take some olive oil and add chopped garlic into it. Add some chopped red wine tomatoes along with chopped dried tomatoes to the mixture. Take one medium chopped onion and mix it with garlic then add a cup of tomato puree to it. Take the dried red chilies and make flakes out of them and add them. Sauté it for a while, add some salt according to taste crush the black pepper and add it to the mixture. Add some water to it and let it boil for one to two minutes. While boiling, add one tablespoon of paprika and half tablespoon of chili flakes and mix it well. Add some natural tomato ketchup to it, and some finely chopped basil leaves and let it cook for some time. Here you go, your pizza sauce is ready.

Why pizza is my favorite food?

The biggest love of my life is pizza. The crispy base, cheesy top, and spicy taste all that in a single dish, the hot pizza in hand, is the best feeling of the world. Always ready for a slice of pizza anytime in the day. Those healthy and delicious tomatoes, cheese, herbs, and toppings make it even tastier. It’s easy to bake and tastes very good. Readily available and whenever I see a pizza automatically, I crave to eat it.

You can carry it anywhere it may be eaten as a snack or appetizer or the main meal. It can be consumed at any time. Whether hot or cold, it tastes fantastic and yes, all over the world, lots of pizza delivery is available so readily available. All these things make pizza my favorite dish.

Pizza is available all around the world nowadays some companies, and food brand provides frozen pizza, all we have to do is heat them in the oven for 5 minutes, and it’s ready to eat. Everywhere near to us, there are lots of multinational pizzeria chains that make incredible pizza. We can order them online while we are at the office, and till the time we reach home, they will get it delivered to our home. The best part about pizza is it’s available everywhere, and it’s cheap so it can be consumed by anybody.

   Why is Pizza Unhealthy?

As soon as we eat a pizza, it is our brain that takes out its taste and makes “Satisfaction” our middle n. But as the level of triglycerides increases in our blood pressure, it promotes the blood clots in the human body, which have heart diseases. So if you are not a healthy person, you are at a high risk of life.

Conclusion-

We got knowledge from this essay like where was the first-ever pizza baked. It was in Naples, Italy, in 1889 by Raffael Esposito. Then we had included a recipe of Pizza sauce which could be made at home and also how to make a Pizza deliciously at home. We have also learned about its cons of why it is a bit unhealthy if you don’t own a healthy and immune digestive system. But then too I LOVE PIZZA…

My Favourite Food Pizza – Essay 2

Food is one of the indispensable essentials in everyone’s life. There is one Mahatma Gandhi saying that “this world is enough for everyone’s need not for everyone’s greed”.

Now this world is becoming more and more greedy which will destroy without even known to us.

But a greedy person too will say enough or no to food only. Everyone is living and chasing for food at all point of time.

Some of us will live with food as passion by changing into profession like chef. But this is not true. Not only chef will live as passion our mothers will do that with pure love.

We will come across many food items in our life which will occupy certain places in our mind. There is a category for each and every item we eat like favorites, we love, not again.

Without having reason, we hate some items by hearing the name itself. So now here we are going to see my favorite food.

Pizza

My Favorite food

Among my food items, my favorite food is the most delicious pizza. How it becomes my favorite will be seen later. Not only to me, most of our younger generations will be addicted to this food item pizza.

Yes, but before generation are slightly getting to know about pizza. So, they will not be attracted towards this.

Also, will give advice that pizza should not be eaten as it is a fast food category will spoil your health. But it always tastes great for me.

How it becomes my favorite?

If any food item is becoming our favorite means there will be some story behind that or may be some persons or some reasons.

Let me tell you that story. My parents are not used to get me into hotel so I don’t get chance of having a pizza much.

While in school with my friends I was arranging programs for a special day and we got late.

So, with our pocket money we ordered something to eat as we were hungry and tired, not having energy to do further work.

So, we Ordered pizza and ate fully without leaving a bite as it was a cheese pizza.

Always first impression is our best impression both in positive and negative sense. Then I started to like it. At the same time, some of my friends started to dislike it as its taste did not suit them.

Now I am addicted this so always thanks my friends to bring pizza in my life.

Cheese Pizza

Pizza – person

At home too, I started to order pizza. As my favorite is cheese pizza or meat pizza. Both will be more tasty and healthy.

Normally it will be a mixture of more things. We also can order in that way. Now they are delivering four varieties of pizza in single pizza.

Then I started to taste different types of pizza in different places. Even though my taste buds tasted many pizzas, my favorite is cheese pizza.

I eat pizza in every week without fail. For a foodie like me, I think it is better to try to cook pizza at home. My love for pizza makes me to think like that.

Pizza at home

I started to search like from history to recent updates about pizza. History is it is an Italian dish famous in America by some Italian dish makers in world war II.

There are more types of pizzas, hamburgers available in America. Then I started to search for how to make a good tasty yummy pizza at home.

As usual many sites opened with how to prepare videos. I begin with materials require to prepare pizza.

I watched each and every single step curiously to make my pizza tasty.

In the beginning I thought pizza is for only vegetarians with that color of vegetables and cheese later I realized that it is also available for non-vegetarians that too like meat, chicken pizza.

At first, I got to know many procedures to prepare, but I got confused.

I started with simple things like with three essentials ingredients of pizza- tomato in the vegetable category, cheese from dairy category, crust from grains category. These three itself will make our pizza a delicious snack food item.

At last I prepared pizza with thin crust with many flaws. Then I corrected it one by one. While everyone who is preparing pizza at home will start with electric oven but pizza lovers will prefer the taste of wood fired ovens.

Finally, I got to know the secret of pizza which is sauce not just crust in the final stage.

Sauce can be simply a tomato sauces which is sweet, salt, spicy or seasoned or creamy sauce like rose sauce, Alfredo or crust with little bit of flavored olive oil.

Whatever cooking method you use, the delicious smell coming out of oven is unmatched to anything in this world.

Why everyone like pizza the reason is simple. In this fast-moving world, we want everything should travel with us but in small size like compact.

This includes our mobile, laptop etc., likewise pizza can be taken with us. Yes, cold pizza also tastes nice.

But I like hot one which is crispy at the sides and soft in the middle that too crispy crust pizzas with extra cheese tastes like heaven.

Furthermore, the aroma or smell come from the pack when we open is always tantalizes like anything.

Pizza is available for all categories of people like affordable to unaffordable people and to all number of people like to an individual, to family, party people, romantic people, office celebration.

It is accessed by everyone that you can find one everywhere you go.

It is so loved because you can personalize it and feels you up. You can feed a crowd with it easily that you don’t have to cook and it can also be cooked quickly if you cook at home.

All children even those who does not eat food properly will also love it. If it is an instant party or a small party at house, we can have pizza and some soft drinks.

It will complete everything and gives party feel to everyone within affordable budget.

Pizza it is for everyone like veggie pizza for vegetarians, cheese pizza for picky eaters, meat pizza for meat lovers, pineapple pizza for fruit lovers, naan pizza for lovers of Indian flavor, pepperoni pizza for classic style lovers.

So, it does not matter if you are a vegetarian or not because it is available in all flavors and for everyone’s taste buds.

No matter how much I have eaten, I will never fail to make my stomach hungry to have my favorite pizzas in front of me.

Whenever I take the first bite of my pizza, flavors will explode in my mouth.

In addition to that vegetables, tomato, cheese, thin crust which makes it crispy makes me eat more and more.

“Yale University loved her Papa John’s Pizza college application essay.”  Carolina Williams’ supplemental essay for Yale has gone viral thanks to headlines like this one.

Now let’s get some perspective on the situation , understand what really matters about this application essay, analyze how it can help you come up with compelling angles in your own narratives , and map out how this essay connects to other Yale supplemental essay topics .

BUSTING THE MYTH OF THE PIZZA ESSAY GETTING A STUDENT INTO YALE

Let’s face an essential fact.

Saying that an essay on pizza got Carolina into Yale is a bit of an exaggeration.

Take a look at the handwritten letter from Yale:

“I absolutely loved reading your application. Your essay on reading 100 books in a year was so passionate, fun, and likable , and, as a fellow lover of pizza, I laughed out loud (then ordered pizza) after reading your application.”

Her regional admissions officer wrote to say:

“I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read your application. As someone who kept trying to read books for fun on top of thousands of applications this winter, I really loved reading your essay on reading 100 books in a year and I laughed so hard on your pizza essay. I kept thinking that you are the kind of person that I would love to be best friends with. I want you to know that every part of your application stood out in our process and we are thrilled to be able to offer you a spot at Yale.”

Hmmmm. . . .

Interesting, isn’t it?

The first essay both admissions officers commented on was the one on reading, but. . . .

The media  is  only picking up and promoting the pizza essay .

Stories about essays on books just aren’t very likely to go viral.

That’s sad but true.

However, what’s also true is that the Yale team felt that every single part of her application stood out.

Trust me, no admissions officer or committee is going to say, “Wow. . .this one essay on pizza is so clever. . .it made me laugh so hard. . .we have to let her in.”

WHAT’S SO IMPORTANT ABOUT THIS PIZZA ESSAY?

On the surface, it might seem that Carolina’s pizza essay is just some sort of gimmicky hook, but it’s not.

Let’s consider her perspective:

“When I read the prompt, `Write about what do you love to do,’  ordering pizza was literally the first thing that came to my mind . So I just ran with it. I thought that even if I wanted to change it I would just start writing and see how it went. And it flowed so well , and I loved it so much and I didn’t want to change it and I was so proud of it. It was so reflective of my personality that if they wanted me they would really know what they are getting. So I decided to submit it.”

So many students stress out about being super serious and trying to impress admissions officers by telling them what they think they want to hear .

Guess what?

That often backfires .

Carolina’s essay works so well precisely because it’s so real and relatable. It isn’t pretentious. There are no veiled brag alerts.

She’s simply describing something she loves:

“The sound of my doorbell starts off high, then the pitch mellows out, and the whole effect mimics an instrumental interpretation of rain finally finding a steady pace at which to fall. Accepting those warm cardboard boxes is second nature to me, but I will always love ordering pizza because of the way eight slices of something so ordinary are able to evoke feelings of independence, consolation, and joy .”

Her essay is refreshingly simple and straightforward, but also humorous and serious.

REMEMBER. . . .

Admissions officers are genuinely curious about what you love to do.

That’s why Yale gives you the option of writing a 200-word supplemental essay to share “something that you love to do.”

That’s also why MIT has a similar 100-word essay: “We know you lead a busy life, full of activities, many of which are required of you. Tell us about something you do for the pleasure of it .”

One of my students who recently graduated from Yale wrote his MIT essay on glowsticking. It was awesome.

(Obviously, that’s not a video of my student.)

YALE SUPPLEMENTAL ESSAYS

As I mentioned earlier, it’s important to keep in mind that the pizza essay was one of a few additional essays that Yale requires.

Yale asks you “choose two of the following topics and respond to each in 200 words or fewer”:

1. What is a community to which you belong? Reflect on the footprint that you have left. (You may define community and footprint in any way you like.)

2. Reflect on a time in the last few years when you felt genuine excitement learning about something.

3. Write about something that you love to do.

There’s also a very short (100 words or less) “Why Yale?” essay:

Why does Yale appeal to you?

1. Who or what is a source of inspiration for you?

2. If you could live for a day as another person, past or present, who would it be? Why?

3. You are teaching a Yale course. What is it called?

4. Most Yale freshmen live in suites of four to six students. What would you contribute to the dynamic of your suite?

If you’re applying to computer science or engineering, you’re asked to write another essay:

“Please tell us more about what has led you to an interest in this field of study, what experiences (if any) you have had in computer science or engineering, and what it is about Yale’s program in this area that appeals to you.(Please answer in 500 words or fewer).”

MY PERSPECTIVE ON SHORT SUPPLEMENTAL ESSAY TOPICS

I’m not sure if Carolina’s essay would have worked so well if it were expanded into a longer 650-word essay like the one you have to write for the Common Application .

My sense is that it packed a nice punch precisely because it was short and part of multiple short narratives .

You should think about how each of your essays –long or short– offer additional insight into who you are.

Are you coming across as one-dimensional? Is everything in your application very serious? Then, you need to consider how you can show more range .

Are you coming across as totally scattered? Will admissions officers walk away not having a clear sense of who you are? Then, you need to consider how you can tactfully and subtly tweak your narratives so there’s more unity .

DAVID GREENE, HOST:

Good morning. I'm David Greene. So to get into Yale University, you've got to write an essay about something you love to do. Carolina Williams told The Tennessean newspaper she went with the first thing that popped into her head - how much she loves ordering pizza from Papa John's. She wrote of how slices of something ordinary evoke feelings of independence and joy.

Yes, she got in.

Carolina posted a note from an admissions officer saying she laughed out loud reading that essay, and then she ordered a pizza. It's MORNING EDITION.

ABC News reported that when Carolina Williams found out she was accepted into the New Haven, Connecticut, school in March, she received notes from the university's admissions team that singled out her essay about Papa John's pizza. It was one of nearly 10 essays she submitted in her application.

“It really tickled me that they specifically commented on that one because there were a ton of essays,” Williams told ABC News. “I think it stood out because it was just very genuine and reflective of me and it was kind of taking a risk, I guess.”

AL.com reported that the reviewer of Williams' application was especially amused at her essay and said as much in her acceptance letter.

“As someone who kept trying to read books for fun on top of thousands of applications this winter, I really loved your essay on reading 100 books in a year and I laughed so hard on your pizza essay,” the reviewer wrote. “I kept thinking that you were the kind of person that I would love to be best friends with. I want you to know that every part of your application stood out in our process and we are thrilled to be able to offer you a spot at Yale.”

Williams wrote in her essay that ordering pizza at the chain when she was younger “made me feel grown-up” and that the slices “evoke feelings of independence, consolation, and joy.”

USA Today reported that Papa John's founder John Schnatter offered Williams gift cards, a pizza party for her dorm, free pizza for a year and an internship.

Family and friends were so amused that they encouraged her to share the essay on Twitter, where she posted it on May 9 .

Despite the warm response from the admissions team, Williams will be attending Auburn University in Alabama in the fall with a $72,000 scholarship over four years. Williams plans to study business and economics.

Luckily for Williams, Auburn has a Papa John’s on campus.

Teen's Essay About Her Love Of Ordering Pizza Earns Her A Spot At Yale

Breaking News Reporter, HuffPost

A Tennessee teen is encouraging others to break the mold after reportedly earning a spot at Yale University with an unusual essay about ordering pizza.

Carolina Williams announced that she had been accepted to the Ivy League school on Twitter earlier this month and shared a copy of her essay that appeared to draw high praise (and laughs) from an admissions officer.

“I just want @PapaJohns to know that I wrote a college essay about how much I love to order their pizza and it got me into Yale,” she boasted in a Tweet.

I just want @PapaJohns to know that I wrote a college essay about how much I love to order their pizza and it got me into Yale 🍕👌 pic.twitter.com/lDlzEErHCn — Carolina Williams (@justcarolina22) May 9, 2017

The 18-year-old, who told HuffPost that she will be the first in her family to attend college, had been tasked with writing about something that she loves to do. Williams said she genuinely loves ordering pizza.

“Accepting these warm cardboard boxes at my front door is second nature to me, but I will always love ordering pizza because of the way eight slices of something so ordinary are able to evoke feelings of independence, consolation, and joy,” a portion of her essay reads.

“I came up with the idea all on my own and did not really tell anyone about it,” she told HuffPost by email on Thursday. “When my friends found out about it though, they thought it was hilarious.”

Her admissions officer apparently did, too.

Recent high school graduate Carolina Williams, 18, holds up a Papa Johns pizza after getting accepted into Yale University.

In a letter shared by the teen, the officer, who was not named, said she “laughed so hard” while reading it.

“I want you to know that every part of your application stood out in our process and we are thrilled to be able to offer you a spot at Yale,” the officer’s accompanying message reads.

Another handwritten note, read: “Yale would be lucky to have you.”

Of course, it wasn’t just Williams’ creative essay that earned her a coveted spot among the 2,272 students accepted by Yale this year ― making a slim, 6.9% acceptance rate.

Her application contained all the right ingredients, including a high GPA, volunteer work, as well as memberships with the English Honors Society, National Honors Society, Model UN and Youth in Government, the Tennessean reported.

But just as she had many choices on what to write about, she also had choices other than Yale.

In the end, she opted to go to Auburn University instead. One big reason, she shared, is that the Alabama school is much closer to home.

Welcome to @AUCampWarEagle Session 2, @justcarolina22 ! Be sure to stop by the Student Center for lunch🍕 Her story: https://t.co/H60AO2iJfo — Auburn University (@AuburnU) June 1, 2017

“I absolutely love Yale, but I felt so at home at Auburn,” she told HuffPost. “I love the South and the school spirit. I will be a part of the Honors College. I’m so honored to have been accepted by Yale, though!”

At Auburn, she plans to pursue a business degree while minoring in economics, she told the Tennessean, which also reported that the school provided scholarship opportunities.

Short essay on pizza

Pizza is a worldwide favorite. The reason for pizza spread is that you can add anything to it and eat it anytime of the day and anywhere.

The pizza originated in Italy and it is one of the favorite foods for adults and children.

It was originally dough with topping of any ingredients as meat or vegetables that baked in the oven. Pizza developed to become more organized as Italians added sauce, cheese mozzarella and many other types of cheese. Such new way moved from Italy to other countries by Italian immigrants.

Pizza arrived the Middle East and spread very quickly and become favorite.

I’m not fond of pizza, I have pizza only once a month and when there are no options, this time I had dinner at the Pizza restaurant. The menu contained exciting varieties in terms of appetizers, pizza and pasta with a detail of the ingredients of each dish.

The appetizers were a chicken soup with delicious cream.

The second dish was a mushroom dish with pashamel sauce (cream sauce) and the onion was excellent and the mushroom was fresh.

The third dish was garlic bread.

Then we ordered three types of pizza, medium size divided into four pieces.

The pizza dough was light and soft and its ingredients were excellent in terms of quantity and taste.

The first was “Polo Kun Fungi” pizza. It  was made of chicken, pashamel sauce and mushroom.

The second was sausage pizza. It was made of sausage, mushroom sauce and mozzarella.

It was very good but the first one was better.

The third was romana diavolo pizza, which of the same dough but they extend the dough until it becomes bigger and thinner. It was made of  beef, pepperoni, cold pepper and tomato sauce.

Personally, I do not like meat in the pizza nor the pepperoni, so I did not like this pizza and it was very ordinary.

The bill was fairly high but the quality of the pizza differed from other well known restaurants.

After the interesting experience with this restaurant. I decided to have a weekly visit to a different pizza restaurant to try different pizza types and explore the best restaurant.

Indeed, pizza can be eaten anytime, anywhere hot or cold.

I became a pizza expert in a short time.

Pizza is the best meal that my brothers and I like, even though we are different in our love of the flavors that it presented with.

I love it so much with chicken and to put a lot of cheese on it, I like the layer of dough to be thin and not leave it too much in the oven until it becomes solid, but I like it medium maturity.

Unlike my brother, he likes to eat it with shrimp pieces and does not like to add many ingredients to it. He does not pay much attention to the details, such as the degree of cocking or thickness. Which makes me feel that I beat him in the art of taste. I also love making it with my mom in case we want to eat it homemade. I love preparing the dough and adding a touch of olive oil and sauce.

The possibilities are endless and they can be enjoyed in any time of the day. Overall, tacos are a comforting and satisfying dish that brings people together and I can’t get enough of them.

FAQ about My Favorite Food Essay & Paragraph

We need food to provide our bodies with the nutrients and energy they require to function properly. These nutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Without enough of these nutrients, our bodies can’t grow and repair tissues, produce energy, or properly regulate functions such as our immune systems and metabolism.

It’s okay to enjoy your favorite foods as part of a balanced diet, but it’s important to remember that variety is key to a healthy diet. Eating the same foods repeatedly can lead to nutrient deficiencies and make your meals less enjoyable. It’s important to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your diet to ensure that you’re getting all the necessary nutrients. Additionally, having a balance diet can also help prevent chronic disease.

Fast food is often high in calories, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium, which can contribute to weight gain and an increased risk of chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure when consumed in excess. It is important to be aware of the nutritional content of the fast food you are eating and make informed choices.

Eating fast food occasionally as part of a balanced diet is generally okay. However, it is not recommended to make a regular habit of eating fast food, as it can contribute to nutrient deficiencies and displace healthier food choices. Instead, it’s better to prepare meals at home using fresh, whole ingredients, which can be more nutritious and allow you to control the ingredients and portion sizes.

When writing about your favorite food, it’s important to be descriptive and use sensory language to convey the taste, texture, and appearance of the food. Here are a few tips on how to write about your favorite food:

  • Start by describing the appearance of the food. What does it look like? Is it colorful or monochromatic? Is it smooth or chunky?
  • Next, describe the texture of the food. Is it crunchy, chewy, or soft? How does it feel in your mouth?
  • Then, describe the taste and flavor of the food. What are the dominant flavors? Are they sweet, savory, spicy, or sour? Are there any unique or interesting flavors that make this food special?
  • Share the history and cultural background of the food. It can be interesting for the reader to know where it comes from and how it is traditionally consumed
  • Finally, explain why it is your favorite food. What is it about this food that you love? How does it make you feel? How often do you eat it?

Remember to be honest, specific, and use vivid language to make your writing come alive.

It is hard to make a list of the 10 most favorite foods in the world as different cultures have different tastes, preferences and cuisines. However, here is a list of some foods that are popular and well-loved globally:

  • Pizza – a dish made with a wheat flour base, topped with tomato sauce, cheese, and various toppings.
  • Sushi – a Japanese dish made with vinegared rice, raw fish, and vegetables.
  • Pasta – a dish made from wheat flour, eggs, and water, usually served with a sauce.
  • Tacos – a Mexican dish made with a tortilla, filled with meat, beans, cheese, and vegetables.
  • Fried Chicken – a dish made by marinating chicken in a mixture of spices and flour before deep-frying it.
  • Curry – a dish made with a combination of spices, vegetables and meat or fish, originating from South Asia.
  • BBQ ribs – a dish made by grilling or smoking meat, usually pork, with a barbecue sauce.
  • Pho – a Vietnamese dish made with rice noodles, meat, and a flavorful broth.
  • Ramen – a Japanese dish made with Chinese-style wheat noodles, meat, and vegetables in a broth.
  • Hummus – a Middle Eastern dip made from chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, and spices.

Again, this is not an exhaustive list, and there are many other delicious and popular foods from around the world that could be included.

Short Paragraph on My Favorite Food Pizza for Students

In This Blog We Will Discuss

Short Paragraph on My Favorite Food Pizza in 200 Words

I love eating pizza a lot. It is my favorite food. My mother is the person who makes pizza for me. There are different types of pizza but I love cheese pizza mostly. Because I think these types of Pizzas are healthy and give me strength. Eating a lot of pizza is not good for health.

But I always love to eat a lot of them. My parents scold me sometimes for that. But it is really hard to avoid pizza for me. It is like a drug to me. Pizza is mainly Italian food, but now it’s popular worldwide.

Lots of my friends love to eat pizza too. And sometimes we eat together in some restaurants. While we hang out, I love to have pizza there. I tried to make it myself, but I found it really hard. I didn’t have the proper ingredients to do that. I prefer buying it or made by my mom.

Though it is part of junk food, still, I love eating it a lot. When I see my favorite pizza in front of me, I feel so much hungry. I think I have a unique and different relation with Pizza. That’s why Pizza is my favorite food.

What is Columbus-style pizza? Here's the lowdown and why it tops them all.

I’ve lived in Columbus for 20 years now. I started working at The Dispatch on March 29, 2004, and I remember it like it was yesterday. It was either 73 degrees or 5 below. People were complaining that the paper was too liberal — or maybe too conservative.

Twenty years, I think, gives me the right to self-deprecate like a local, at things such as the 10-most-wanted list of central Ohio criminals that one of the now-defunct alt-weeklies used to publish regularly; in one, seven wore Buckeyes sweatshirts. At things such as our penchant for selecting places like Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wings and PF Chang’s in best-of- Columbus contests.

I’d poke fun of how we pronounce certain things here in Clummus , but I grew up in Toledo and know I’d get it back 10-fold whenever I say things like “Oh my gaaaaaad!” and “Have you ever been to Tony Paaacko’s?,” which in both cases is quite often.

One, thing, though, that I never joke about in my now-hometown is our local pizza. In 20 years, I’ve become not just used to Columbus-style pizza. I’ve become a fan.

What is Columbus-style pizza?

First of all, for those of you who aren’t as versed in these things as I am, let me explain Columbus-style pizza.

Three features define it. The first is its thin crust. Second, it’s cut into squares rather than triangular slices. Outside this region, where people can’t believe we’re the 15th biggest city in the country, let alone that we have our own style of pizza, they call small square slices “party style” or “tavern style” because it supposedly feeds more people. (They really don’t know much about us, do they?)

Jim Grote, the king of Columbus pizza, explained it all to me last fall when I sat down with him and his daughter, Jane Grote Abell, for an interview as their family-owned Donatos Pizza chain celebrated its 60th year in business.

More: Donatos at 60: Founder reflects on humble start, McDonald's takeover and the golden rule

Notice I called Grote the king of Columbus pizza, not the king of Columbus- style pizza. Although Donatos is by far the biggest purveyor of our local type of pie — between its own franchises and a partnership with Red Robin restaurants, it’s available now in 29 states — Grote was careful to point out that he didn’t create the style.

“That’s the way I learned how to do it,” he said of Columbus-style’s signature square pieces. Grote began working at a local pizzeria as a teenager in the 1950s and ended up buying the place as a college sophomore in 1963. That's how Donatos was born.

What Jim Grote does take credit for, though, is marketing the edge-to-edge toppings that are the third signature of Columbus-style pizza. Donatos took Pizza Hut to court in 1996 and won a $5 million copyright infringement settlement after the national behemoth launched an ad campaign for a pizza called The Edge. The Columbus behemoth argued that Pizza Hut could certainly copy the idea of edge-to-edge toppings, but it couldn’t steal Donatos’ capital-Edge marketing language.

Now, Columbus-style pizza is so much a part of life in central Ohio that Experience Columbus began promoting a Columbus-Style Pizza Trail in 2022. There are 18 pizzerias listed.

A convert to Columbus-style

I was a Columbus-style skeptic when I first settled here, because I grew up eating a homemade focaccia that my family instead called pizza. Our go-to carryout pizza was Little Caesar’s. Our high school hangout was Godfather’s. All were thick, fluffy and crust-centric.

Columbus crust isn’t bready like Detroit’s square pan pizzas, but it’s not crispy, either. It isn’t flimsy like New York’s oversized slices, but it’s not crackery. It’s just right.

Therein lies its genius.

Our crust has a dense presence — more like a pizza shell than an airy crust — but it’s not the focus of the entire pie. You don’t need extra cheese to even things out and, thank goodness, you never get that mystery middle zone that leaves you uncertain if you’re chewing on mozzarella or undercooked dough. I'd even say a fourth feature of Columbus-style pizza is that it's baked to the very limit of well-done.

Toppings take the starring role. (And speaking of toppings: Thank you, Jim Grote, for the Founder’s Favorite. Chef’s kiss to the addition of vinegary banana peppers to pepperoni, sausage and ham.)

We’ve got a good thing going here in our well-balanced pie. That’s probably why 11 of the 16 reader-nominated pizzas for our ongoing Dispatch Best Pizza in Columbus pizza bracket — vote before noon Friday! — were thin-crusted and square-sliced with toppings brimming to the edges. Six of the eight first-round winners were Columbus-style, as are three of the four still vying for bragging rights in this week's voting .

Save the corners for me

I certainly still love thick-crust pizzas. We often order half-priced Detroit-style Jet’s when the Blue Jackets score two goals at home. It happens quite often, you’ll be happy to know; unfortunately, their opponents quite often score three goals or more.

More: Here are 10 of Columbus' top specialty pizzas

And my cousins and I will be thinking about our mothers this week when we carry on family tradition with the pizzas they’d make every Easter: a bready dough topped with sauteed onions, tomato sauce and Romano cheese. It’s our family’s version of a two-crusted, calzone-like Pugliese onion pie.

But I’m also now a full-fledged Columbusite — Columbian? Columbusinian? — and with that title comes the right to stack my plate with enough small squares of Columbus-style pizza to retire the notion that a party-cut pizza serves more people.

And like any good, red-blooded Columbus resident, I’m going to snag those four tiny corner pieces first.

IL Pizzaiolo

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

When I’m in Moscow I come here. The food is always delicious and the staff are really helpful and are very happy to speak English. They also catered for my vegan needs. Much, much better than Jamie’s Italian.

Thanks for the great feedback! We are very proud of our waiters and cuisine. Waiting for you again!

Visited this place while visiting Moscow for the first time and I have to give them 5* Everywhere me and my friend went to, everyone was looking down on us, not sure if it has something to do with us being foreigners but this restaurant... was a real gem. Since the minute we walked in staff made us feel welcomed, our waitresses had perfect English and the service was great. Lovely staff and lovely food. The homemade cheesecake was delicious. Great restaurant More

We are glad that you liked everything! Come back when you are in Moscow again.

Popped in for a coffee and cake. Best red velvet cake I ever had. Really nice coffee. Very friendly waiter (explained the cake options in good English as well as Russian). Small and cozy inside. Happy/satisfied looking people. Will go again.

Thanks for the sincere feedback! Come again to taste our pizza.

Really enjoyed our lunch here last month. It’s a very quaint little place but has fantastic friendly service and great food. The soup of the day was really hearty and comforting when being out in the cold all day. We shared a pizza which was... really nice and I had cherry juice which is random, haven’t seen that on many menus. More

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing you again!

The food was outstanding, we had the margarita pizza, the ravioli with ricotta and the strawberry and mint lemonade, all three were outstanding !! The best part was the extra dip they gave for the pizza crust to barbecue dip into !! We were served... by two servers !! The girl was extremely sweet but the dude was rude, and didn’t know much about what he was serving !! And very blatantly said he doesn’t know what it is, and whether it’s veg or not !! Rest all good !! Would go for brunch again while at GUM for shopping !! More

Thank you for your opinion. We will take action

Eventhough small, we did manage to have meals twice during our stay and were totally pleased with the delicious food, efficient service and cosy decor. Definetely one of Moscow's best and highly recommended!

Thanks for the great review! We are waiting for you again when you will be in Moscow.

Delicious pizza's here. Service very good. Nice location, very close to Red Square - can sit outside or inside

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so glad to see you again!

Took my Indian family to this place, They loved it and they don't even eat pizzas. Finally they got to eat real pizzas

i love pizza essay

Thanks for your kind words!

We had pizzas here after a visit to the Kremlin. Great quality and good value. There is another restaurant in this chain in Arbat Street. Desserts were excellent too!

That’s so kind of you

For authentic Italian cuisine come and dine at this awesome restaurant. Food is freshly prepared. I tried the tomato soup, veg pizza and a brinjal pasta dish. Every item was simply divine. Service is excellent. Highly recommended

Thank you for your awesome review ❤️Hope to see you again soon!

For this evening we wanted something else - why not try Italian? We ordered two dishes. 1: tagliatelle with seafood and bisque and 2: ossobuco with risotto. For a drink two glasses of beer. The tagliatelle is very good, with deep flavors of the bisque... and the seafood. The ossobuco is perfect. A large piece of tender meat on the bone with the marrow. This classic dish tastes full of richness. The meat is cooked to perfection. The risotto was creamy and very good done. A classic stew to enjoy on a nice evening. Compliments to the chef. One little downside: the beer could be a little bit colder as served. More

Thank you a lot for this great review! We're happy to know you liked our cafe! Hope to see you again soon :)

It's a little touch and go in the outside area - not enough room for customers to relax... and not enough room for the waiting staff to work. Nevertheless, we sorted out an amazing, freshly cooked burrata, rocket and tomato pizza... and some drinks. Good... location, good price. More

Dear Sebastian thank you a lot for your review! We're happy you liked our cafe. Hope to see you again soon :)

Amazing place, perfect pizza, dessert and coffee, absolutely nice and kind personnel, the atmosphere really relax and comfortable. The order took no more than 6 or 7 minutes to come. And the prices really affordable! We had an amazing dinner! Totally recommendable! Thanks a lot... for the kind attention from all the personnel and the manager. More

The food is tasty, the waitress very kind and helpful! Thanks a lot! Pumpkin soup is the best in my life

L.A. Affairs: ‘Let’s be like this forever,’ I said. ‘Nothing’s forever’ was his reply

i love pizza essay

My first spot in L.A. looked like a scene from “Melrose Place.” Two stories, old motel style, courtyard in the middle. A wedge of sun-kissed paradise. As I unloaded stuff from my newly acquired Toyota pickup (a parting gift from an ex-boyfriend), I wondered just how I’d fit in here, this place called Studio City, where the streets are wide and everyone’s hair is the color of spun gold.

With my black outfit, chunky shoes and the veneer of New York still on me, I thought, “What the hell am I doing here?”

Then I saw him, from across the pool. The guy who would teach me about forever. He was lounging in a yellow chair, rolling a tobacco cigarette. He wasn’t wearing a shirt. Or shoes. But he was wearing a guitar, and shards of daylight were bouncing off it.

I slept with a married man twice. And honestly, I'm not sorry Illustration by Hannah Agosta / For the Times for Natalie Arroyo Camacho essay

L.A. Affairs: I slept with a married man with kids. But don’t call me a home-wrecker

Being a straightforward person, I wanted to know if the chef wanted to come back to my hotel. The next day I asked him if he’d be back for Round 2.

March 22, 2024

I pretty much skipped over to him. Not because he was a near replica of the Dude from “The Big Lebowski,” but because he was my new neighbor — and quite possibly the only person who would ever understand me. “So what do people do for fun around here?” The sound of my voice surprised me, as I’d taken on the throaty rasp of a 1940s bombshell. Damn.

Too East Coast, I thought, wishing I’d kept my mouth shut. But the dude was smiling, and his eyes twinkled like moonbeams hitting sand. The next day, we were laughing over margaritas at Casa Vega about our mutual love for “Freaks,” a movie from 1932 whose main characters were members of a carnival sideshow. “To freaks,” he said, raising a glass. “A love story.”

After that, we ordered nachos, discussed the meaning of life, and danced to a bluesy version of “Suzie Q” at a local dive bar on Whitsett. The dude knew where to go. He took me to places that had staying power. And that’s what I was craving: things that could hold up over time. In a land of ephemeral coffee shops, I wanted something solid. Something that would stick around for a good long while. The dude showed me that L.A. — the parts often seen on celluloid — making it effortless for me to settle in.

A week later, he showed up with a frozen turkey. “Hey, hey, do you need poultry?” It was near Thanksgiving, so this wasn’t too weird an ask.

“Sure, I’ll take some poultry,” I said with a shrug.

“Dope,” he said and walked away with perfect posture.

A man and woman holding hands dash across a stage with stage props holding luggage

L.A. Affairs: I was 18. He was 36 and my teacher. Could our marriage survive?

I was attending college when a lonely Mr. C asked me to dinner as a thank-you for taking care of his children.

March 15, 2024

The next time I saw him, he gave me a Slinky. Because this was my favorite toy, the dude and I fell in love. No words were spoken. We just knew. Soon he began to share his world with me: his friends, his family, his German shepherd Sam.

I met his mother, an ex-movie starlet who’d lived the Hollywood dream in the late ‘60s, as depicted through old photos on a stucco wall. She’d dated Brando and Dylan and had stories to tell — ones worth telling — and I wanted every detail.

Overnight I’d acquired an instant family, a new tribe or maybe an old one that I had belonged to since the dawn of time. I was now part of the Angelenos, a special breed of artists, who’d lived here their entire lives. My feelings of aloneness vanished.

Then, one night, the dude drove us to the top of Mulholland and told me he loved me. Though it had been implied for months, our union was now official. He’d solidified it, right there, with the lights of the San Fernando Valley bearing witness. The dude was spontaneous — and romantic.

He would call me at work to recite poems by Neruda, a thing we often did before bed. “Hi, just need to tell you this,” he’d say, “I love your feet, because they walked upon the earth and upon the wind and upon the waters, until they found me.”

LA Affairs

L.A. Affairs: I keep calling my new boyfriend Paul. That’s my ex’s name

I keep calling Scott, a man I loved so completely I felt whole, by my ex’s name, Paul. Is there a deeper meaning behind my slipups?

March 8, 2024

From there, our courtship went into super bloom, as we hit every museum, club, concert and pizza place in the Southland. And on summer nights, we camped at Point Dume, where I experienced my first algae bloom, a thing that sometimes happens when placid water is gently disturbed, creating sparkly green particles.

This phenomenon is intoxicating, making it easy to believe in forever. Ripping through emerald waves, hand in hand, it seemed that the dude and I might stay this way until the end of time. “Let’s be like this forever,” I suggested, drying off in a wool poncho.

“Ahhh,” he said, “Nothing’s forever. You know that, right?”

My heart sank to my feet (the feet he’d professed to worship), which were buried under a mound of sand alongside his. He tried to straighten the wheel by saying, “I mean, according to Buddhists, permanence isn’t really a thing.” Then he kissed me and all the noise of the ocean disappeared.

A month later we moved in together. Our new home was an Art Deco flat in East Hollywood, drenched in colored lights and paper lanterns. We cooked Bolognese sauce there and wrote songs. We were hip and cool and inseparable, and we explored every corner of old Hollywood, from Musso & Frank to Yamashiro.

We carried on this way for years. And for nearly a decade, in the gentle hum of Little Armenia, we helped each other grow. The dude and I became adults together.

But even with all that adulting, cooking, monogamy and poetry, the dude still couldn’t promise forever. And sometimes, when I told him I loved him, he would simply reply, “Thanks,” and go back to strumming an acoustic guitar.

A man enters an empty apartment.

L.A. Affairs: I gave my boyfriend an ultimatum. What he did next was shocking

After a tough conversation followed by our breakup, my boyfriend left without telling me. He even took the shower curtain.

March 1, 2024

The illusion of permanence was slipping from me, at a rate I was less than comfortable with. The more I wished for eternal romance, the more I noticed his condescending tone — and sideways glances. And there was the uncanny way he ignored street cleaning signs and trash days. The way the dude stirred his coffee, clanking his spoon against his cup an excessive amount of times before taking a sip, became grounds for my full-blown meltdowns, which I started having on the regular.

Then one day, with the sky cloaked in heavy marine layer, we broke up. Just like that. On the eve of our 10th anniversary. Not because we didn’t love each other but mostly because nothing lasts forever, as the dude had once speculated. So, after a river of tears and many love songs, he moved out. And we promised to remain friends. Forever.

It’s been 20 years since the dude and I ended our love affair, and those iconic spots he turned me on to are still around. Much like our friendship, they’ve stood the test of time, remaining stable amid an ever-changing landscape.

As friends, we share a unique connection, not unlike the one we had before: We still write songs and discuss the meaning of life together. We still celebrate holidays together. His family is still my family, his friends are still my friends. We know every secret, private joke and pet peeve about each other , based on memories woven so deeply into the L.A. backdrop, they can’t be undone. And though he no longer calls me at work to recite Neruda, the dude and I still enjoy a margarita together every now and then.

He Expresses Himself Through Art. She Through Math.

Alexandra Plzak and Sharif Farrag met in college and had very little in common on paper. But you know what they say about opposites.

The groom, in a dark suit, waves to guests from behind a table with a floral arrangement while grinning. The bride, also grinning, is adjusting her white veil.

By Alyson Krueger

The last weekend of February, Sharif Hussein Farrag, a ceramic artist, raced colorful clay rats that he sculpted and placed on motorized vehicles around a sports field outside the Santa Monica Airport.

The performative art piece was part of Frieze Los Angeles, a weekend-long contemporary art show, and Mr. Farrag, dressed in a white racing suit and waving a black and white checkered racing flag, explained to the steady stream of art critics, artists, collectors and spectators that it symbolized the “rat race” of capitalism.

“It was a lot of attention,” said Mr. Farrag, 30, who is currently represented by François Ghebaly, a gallery in Los Angeles, but was doing this piece for the Art Production Fund, which supports public art projects across the country. “I was on display with my art.”

But that was just the beginning of a whirlwind week.

A week later, on March 9, he was at the Eden Garden Bar and Grill, a restaurant in Pasadena, Calif., marrying Alexandra Ann Plzak, 27, his girlfriend since college.

“I went right from this crazy week for my career into this week where all my friends were like, ‘My homie is getting married,’’ he said.

The timing of the wedding was deliberate. “Having it near Frieze meant some of my art friends could stay in town an extra couple of days and join,” Mr. Farrag said.

From the beginning, the couple has always found a way to merge work with love. “This is a repeated thing in our relationship,” said Ms. Plzak, who also has a demanding job as a financial analyst for DAOU Vineyards of Paso Robles, Calif. “There are so many times he is working with clay or doing a show, and I am hanging out or working and doing math or Excel finance five feet away from him for 10 hourlong periods.”

“Everything Sharif sets out to do and be a part of, Alexandra, from what I can see, is there supporting him and behind him and holding it down,” said Chase Hall, a multimedia artist who is friends with Mr. Farrag and attended Frieze and the wedding.

The couple met at a party at the University of Southern California in 2016. Mr. Farrag had just transferred to U.S.C. from Santa Monica College to get a B.F.A. in art (he later got an M.F.A. from U.C.L.A.). Ms. Plzak was studying math and economics.

They ran into each other a few times at other parties before Ms. Plzak invited Mr. Farrag back to her house during one. “We just sat on the couch in the living room and watched that Anthony Bourdain show, ‘Kitchen Confidential,’” she said. “It was kind of intimate.”

“In my college head I was like, ‘I am leaving a party to do this wholesome thing,’” Mr. Farrag said. “I kind of knew at that moment this girl was special.”

A few months later, after multiple hangouts, Ms. Plzak invited Mr. Farrag over to her house once again, this time for shrimp scampi. “That night he asked me to be his girlfriend,” she said. “We hadn’t even kissed.”

“I was just going for it,” Mr. Farrag said. “I really wanted to be with her.”

They had some fun moments in college, like when Mr. Farrag would put Ms. Plzak in a milk crate attached to his bike and take her to Pasta Roma, a buffet-style Italian restaurant. “He bikes like he is driving a car,” meaning fast, she said, laughing, “so I had to hold on.”

But they also worked hard. They spent many late nights in the ceramics studio with Mr. Farrag sculpting and Ms. Plzak crunching numbers on her laptop. “I would look at her computer, and it would be all these formulas and all these numbers, and I respected it so much,” he said. “To me, that was crazy stuff.”

Sometimes Ms. Plzak would get involved in the art. As Mr. Farrag was finishing up his bachelor’s degree, he had a thesis show to which he invited all the galleries he wanted to work with in Los Angeles. The duo spent 72 hours preparing for the show, which explored Mr. Farrag’s family heritage (his father is from Cairo and his mother is from Homs, Syria). “He did these beautiful two-tone hand drawings on the wall,” she said. “I actually painted the ceiling because he is sort of afraid of heights.”

They realized quickly that their divergent interests worked well together.

“They really do complement each other well,” said Beth Plzak, the bride’s mother, who lives in Vail, Colo. “He is an artist, and she is financial, so they have a completely different way of approaching things, but it works,” she said. “My daughter is appreciative of art and passion, and he is so appreciative of someone who can keep track of everything.”

The couple dated steadily for the next three years, even as Mr. Farrag traveled the world doing shows and Ms. Plzak moved to Paso Robles to work for Justin winery, about a four-hour drive away from Los Angeles, where he was living. “I was just living in the bedrooms of people’s houses and focused on working, so it was a good time to be long distance,” Mr. Farrag said.

Ms. Plzak agreed the physical distance helped her master her career. “Corporate finance is already a demanding job, and wine is a super complicated industry because wine has to be aged so you are working with five, six, seven-year financial plans,” she said. “Also, because it’s alcohol and every state gets to make its own laws about how wine gets sold, you can’t just know how it works in the United States. You have to know how it works in every state, every market.”

At the start of the pandemic, they moved in together in Los Angeles, and adopted a miniature pinscher Chihuahua named Miss Sprinkles.

In March 2023, Mr. Farrag popped the question during a dinner at his parents’ house that Ms. Plzak’s parents, who were visiting Los Angeles, also attended.

“My dad looked at me and said, ‘Don’t you have something you want to say?’” Mr. Farrag said. “I stepped in and said to Alexandra’s parents, ‘I really want to marry your daughter.’ Then we both started crying.”

Ms. Plzak liked that the Eden Garden Bar and Grill, the wedding site, held meaning for both of them. As a couple, “we’ve gone there for dinner, we’ve gone there to smoke hookah,” she said.

But it also held a special place in Mr. Farrag’s family history. “We used to go there for family get-togethers like baby showers, breaking of the fast in Ramadan,” said his sister, Habah Farrag, 41.

Their professions aren’t the only way the couple differs. Ms. Plzak grew up in Chicago and Vail to parents born in the United States. She was raised Catholic. Mr. Farrag grew up in Los Angeles and is the son of Middle Eastern immigrants. He was raised Muslim.

The wedding merged elements of both of their backgrounds.

During the ceremony one of Mr. Farrag’s cousins led an Arada, a Syrian wedding tradition where he recites a prayer in Arabic and the congregation repeats it. “The whole crowd was chanting in response, and that was incredibly touching,” said Habah Farrag, Mr. Farrag’s sister.

Ms. Plzak had her father walk her into the ceremony, something that happens in Catholic weddings, but not Muslim weddings. “My dad met me in the women’s bathroom, because that is where I was located,” she said.

During the reception, the crowd hoisted the couple up on chairs, another Arada tradition, and everyone danced around them. “Sharif’s friends from childhood rushed to pick up his chair and Alexandra’s family held her chair,” Ms. Farrag said, adding that she didn’t think the couple’s “smiles couldn’t have been bigger.” The D.J. even brought out a tabla hand drum that some members of Mr. Farrag’s family played.

Many of the artists who were at Frieze, either as participants or spectators, cherished getting a chance to unwind after the hectic festival. “There were a lot of artists there who were part of Sharif’s cohort,” said Mr. Hall, the multimedia artist. “There were older artists he had learned from and mentored and younger artists who he engaged with while he was getting his M.F.A. But there was no market or money or financial talk. The wedding was a day when we showed up with nothing but love.”

“The response to my art, it felt amazing, but it was nothing compared to the week of my wedding,” Mr. Farrag said. “Just to see so many people in my life support the decisions I am making, it was pretty freaking cool.”

On This Day

When March 9, 2024

Where The Eden Garden Bar and Grill, Pasadena, Calif.

Marriage Certificate Copy Two days before the wedding Ms. Plzak’s car got broken into and someone stole their marriage license. “We went to the clerk’s office right after our joint bachelor party to get another one,” Mr. Farrag said. “Who would steal that? But we handled it quickly. It made me happy that we are prepared to handle anything.”

Cake from the Pizza Place “We get takeout from this place two blocks away from our home named Quarter Sheets Pizza, and they randomly have these amazing cakes, so we had the idea to get our cake from there,” Ms. Plzak said. “We chose the Princess Cake, our favorite.”

Champagne and Apple Cider Mr. Farrag’s family doesn’t drink, so they served apple cider alongside champagne at the wedding. “Usually only kids would have apple cider, but we had 75 percent of the people drinking it,” he said. “We had a blended wedding.”
