7 Ways Game of Thrones Can Make Your PowerPoint Presentations Epic!
Anuj Malhotra
Warning: Spoilers ahead for those who have not watched a single episode of Game of Thrones and are planning to get started soon.
It’s the world’s greatest show on earth. And if you don’t think so, the army of the dead might soon come knocking on your door (Shhh GoT followers, I know what you are thinking).
Sorry but that’s what the Game of Thrones series turned us into - a bunch (swelled into millions) of unsuspecting viewers into fanatic followers! It turned us - the people of the 21st century - into prehistoric fellowmen of Westeros greeting one another with Valar Morghulis and Valar Dohaeris . The coming of winter season became a golden opportunity for GoTers to say the most-repeated dialogue of the series:
The entertainment landscape changed with this fictional TV series based on the novel series “A Song of Ice & Fire” by George R.R. Martin. And we are so thankful that it came into our lives. For we learnt a lot. The haters gonna say “it taught you nothing but violence and deceit” but those who have watched it know the show celebrates the power of brotherhood and family. The lone wolf dies but the pack survives! The GoT followers know that the show has rekindled the childhood belief that anything is possible in this world - dragons, witches, rebirth, black magic...you name it.
That’s not why I am penning down this article. While creating my next PowerPoint presentation, I had a burning desire to make the viewers of my presentation ogle at my slides and be spellbound by each slide like the tv series achieved. And I realized “why not.” Why can’t Game of Thrones inspire us to create a presentation story that’ll keep the audience riveted to their seats! So let’s enter the PowerPoint battlefield and get in the GoT mode:
Epic Presentation Lessons from Game of Thrones:
#1- what do you say to fear not today.
Yes, GoT fans we know we have tweaked the original dialogue but for a good reason. This viral dialogue “Not Today” appeared in the series at two crucial junctures:
Season 1, Episode 6:
Syrio Forel , master sword-fighter and instructor, to Arya in Season 1, Episode 6, “ There is only one God, and His name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: 'not today'. ”
Season 8, Episode 3:
Melisandre (The Red Woman) reminding Arya the same lesson she learnt from Syrio in season 1, “What do we say to the God of Death?”. Arya knowing the answer very well says, “Not Today.”
Arya then proceeds to fulfill her destiny i.e. shut the blue eyes forever. The epic episode “The Long Night” featuring the epic battle between the living and the dead rekindled the hope that evil can be defeated and hope should never be given up even in hopeless situations.
The Long Night (Season 8, Episode 3)
How to Leverage This in Your Presentation
Everybody has faced the fear of public speaking. Facing the crowds is no easy thing. Palms sweating, heart beating fast, and mind clouded with a hundred doubts - the fear of public speaking is real. The fear becomes so strong in some that they goof up and what could have been a great presentation quickly turns into a disaster with “ummms” and “aahs.”
How can one remain confident? By winning the battle of the mind first. Remember this valuable lesson and say to yourself “What do you say to fear” and answer it aloud “ Not Today! ”
Social Psychologist Amy Cuddy in her popular Ted Talk “Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are” talked about Power Posing - hands on your hips and arms in a V - to help us feel more powerful. Along with body language, power thinking too can help you pump up yourself and shake away the presentation jitters.
Stage fright or anxiety are usually born out of exaggerated thoughts of failure, humiliation or embarrassment in front of the audience. These imagined dangers can only be defeated by countering them with positive, bold thoughts. Believe in yourself that you can do it and you will give a great speech. When you get negative thoughts of failure, scream out aloud... Not Today!
#2- Shock the Audience. They Love It
There can be no bigger shock that the tele viewers ever witnessed than when Ned Stark was killed in season 1. The shock was strong enough to send an earthquake and a tsunami of emotions in our life. It was also the first real taste of the real GoT. We might hate the fact that he was killed but we have to admit GoT is loved for this shock-after-shock-after-shock treatment.
Even though we knew better what to expect from GoT, the series dealt another shock when Starks were brutally massacred at the wedding. “Why did Starks have to bear so much” is a question we are still asking. The singles still get second thoughts whether they should have a wedding. Ever!
Not all Shocks are Unpleasant!
Game of Thrones is a bit depressing and dark but it has the “Yesss” moments too. In Episode 3 of Season 8 “The Long Night” Arya Stark joyously shocks us by taking out the Night King. Fans, including me, were jumping in joy.
How to Leverage This in Your Presentations
Use Shock Appeal without Hesitation or Guilt
Now, of course you won’t start showing blood-curdling videos of eyes popping out. But you can definitely present a statement or fact that audience didn’t expect to hear.
At night you share your bed with up to 10 million dust mites.
Cleanliness will suddenly be the top priority of many in your audience.
#3- Bring Power Dynamics into Play
Perhaps the biggest lesson learnt from GoT is that there is no middle ground! You either win or lose! Sitting on the fence is not an option.
In this drama series, nine noble houses in the mythical lands of Westeros - Stark, Arryn, Baratheon, Tully, Greyjoy, Lannister, Tyrell, Martell and Targaryen - are engaged in a bitter power struggle. When the king on the throne Robert Barratheon dies, it sets in motion a chain of events that set houses against one another. The plots, twists and deceits make each season and episode of GoT a nail-biting experience for the viewers.
While this article is being written, we are on the final season of the series and the last battle, the endgame is approaching with Cersei Lannister pitted against Daenerys Targaryen and John Snow (aka Aegon Targaryen). Who will sit on the Iron Throne? The audiences can’t wait to watch.
Incorporate the Fight Between Good & Evil
All stories are ultimately a battle between the good and the evil side. The good always wins. Life wins over death.
A story is incomplete without a villain. Where presentations are concerned, the problem or threat is the villain and your idea or brand is the hero.
Take the case study of Dollar Shave Club for example. Back in 2012, they released a hilarious video that quickly became viral and made the brand a runaway success. A boring topic as shaving was turned into an entertaining discussion. The villain was introduced as name-brand razors which cost too much. These villains kept increasing the rates of razors arbitrarily making blade replacement a frustrating task. Enter the hero and saviour - Dollar Shave Club. They rolled out an affordable, hassle-free blade service wherein high-quality razors would be automatically delivered to the customer's door for as little as $1.00 a month (compared to $20 a month buying brand-name razors).
Every brand exists to serve a customer’s needs and solve a problem. Ensure your presentation clearly pitches your heroic solution and wages a war against competitor’s services.
A small brand can take on a very big brand. You simply have to give up on the belief that the big brands are infallible. After all, as Varys rightfully put it:
#4- Hype It Like Ser Davos
A character best with words in this series is Ser Davos Seaworth. He has proved his convincing skills a number of times. In Season 4, Episode 6, Ser Davos convinces the Iron Bank to support Stannis Baratheon even when Tycho Nestoris, the representative of the bank was clearly not in favor of lending any gold to the Baratheon:
Had it not been for Ser Davos, Stannis would have had no luck with the Iron Bank. It’s a different story that he loses the Battle of the Blackwater.
Ser Davos shows his diplomatic skills once again when John Snow goes to meet Daenerys for her support in defeating the army of the dead...
Presentations are all about convincing people about your cause, product or service. The people in general are resistant to change. Why should they switch to your product? What is so special about your brand? You have to know your strengths and hype them like Ser Davos does.
Anybody in the presentation industry who comes close to Ser Davos in the art of convincing is Steve Jobs. Yes! Steve Jobs was the world’s greatest salesman. He was spectacular at communicating the beauty and power of his products and make them go viral. Of course, like Ser Davos from GoT and Steve Jobs from the real world, you have to first believe in yourself and that comes with knowing how right or strong your king/product is.
How Steve Jobs pitched the iPod:
This amazing little device holds 1000 songs and it goes right in my pocket.
How Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone:
Today, we’re introducing three revolutionary products of this class.
The first one: is a widescreen iPod with touch controls.
The second: is a revolutionary mobile phone.
And the third is a breakthrough Internet communications device.
So, three things: a widescreen iPod with touch controls; a revolutionary mobile phone; and a breakthrough Internet communications device.
An iPod, a phone, and an Internet communicator. An iPod, a phone … Are you getting it?
These are not three separate devices, this is one device, and we are calling it iPhone.
By analyzing his pitches, it is clear that Steve Jobs did not focus on the features of the product as much as the benefits of the same to the customer. It wasn’t all “me me me” but “you you you”. Tell your audience what’s in it for them. Follow that and you will be winning the hearts of all, like Ser Davos of GoT and Steve Jobs of the real world.
#5- Know Your Strengths & Own Your Weaknesses
Yes, GoT fans must have been wondering why Tyrion Lannister was not mentioned till yet. After all, he is one of the most loved characters of the series and also one who delivered some of the best dialogues ever. Sorry for the late entry but here goes the dialogue you were waiting for:
"Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armour, and it can never be used to hurt you." Tyrion Lannister.
Tyrion, a dwarf and hated by his father and elder sister, is the wisest character (well, he made a few mistakes). Knowing the world poked fun at him, he didn’t let it bring him down. Using his wit and sharp intellect, he defeated his opponents (including his father) and became the Hand of the queen Daenerys Targaryen. He capitalized on his strengths by reading and knowing things.
Exploit your strengths and work on your weaknesses. You are the expert of your subject. That is your strength. But your weakness might be that you use a lot of jargon. Work with your colleagues and friends to simplify your content so that the audience can relate to your presentation.
Or probably, your weakness is presentation designing. You are not a graphic designer. So, it is understandable that you do not know the tricks of creating a beautiful design. However, it is not acceptable to put all bullet points in your presentation. Use professionally-designed PowerPoint Templates in such a scenario. The professional graphic add power to your content. All you need to do is download them, put your content in the placeholders and present it with confidence.
Check Out the Most Popular PowerPoint Templates
#6- don’t boast like jeoffrey.
Confidence is one thing and overconfidence is another. Jeoffrey Baratheon was one of the most despised characters in the series. He was a cruel king and loved insulting and torturing others.
I would not go about describing the cruelties of Jeoffrey. His name is enough for the blood of all GoT followers boil in anger. He constantly boasted, “I am the King” to prove his superiority. However, his grandfather Tywin Lannister once and on many occasions put him in place. He intelligently reminds his grandson…
No wonder, Tywin’s death is celebrated by GoT lovers and Jeoffrey will be counted in television history as one of the worst kings ever.
What Does This Mean for Your Presentation:
Establish your credibility but do not keep harping on the same string. The “me me me” monologue gets on the nerves of the audience. Feel free to let the audience know of the awards you have won, your designation but do it in a graceful manner. A few seconds are enough to lay the ground for your expertise in the subject.
#7- End on a High Note
She is the queen of sass. She is one badass b***h. She is tart-tongued queen of thorns. She is Olenna Tyrell, a strong character that one can’t help but admire. She minces no words and even the most powerful men (take Tywin Lannister for example) and women (Cersei Lannister for example) have to shut up in front of her.
Defeated by Lannisters in season 7, she knows her fate - execution by the hands of Lannister. When Jaimie Lannister confronts her in the end and he tells her that Cersei had horrible plans of her death but he had convinced her for a painless death by poison. Olenna delivers a hard knockout punch with her words before going down. She reveals the shocker to Jaimie that she was the one who had planned the painful murder of his and Cersei’s son Jeoffrey. Before her last breath, she delivers the savage truth to Jaimie, “Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me.” Period. Olenna had the last word in the conversation; as always.
Your ending should be spectacular. One that audience remember you for. The one before you say thank you and hang up the boots. The ending can be a powerful quote, a call to action (but not a cliche) or a personal commitment like the swimmer Diana Nyad shared in her TED Talk:
That ocean’s still there. This hope is still alive. And I don’t want to be the crazy woman who does it for years and years and years, and tries and fails and tries and fails and tries and fails . . . I can swim from Cuba to Florida, and I will swim from Cuba to Florida.
The Ultimate Lesson from Game of Thrones: Storytelling Wins!
Game of Thrones did not become epic because of nudity and violence. It was a triumph of storytelling. The rich, multi-layered characters, plot twists, hard-hitting dialogues, action, tragedy and emotions made this show what it is today. If you haven’t seen it but still read the article knowing many of the spoilers by now, go ahead and watch it; you won’t be disappointed.
And when you plan to deliver your next presentation, spend more time perfecting your story - the pitch. Think how you can make it more interesting for the audience. Add emotions, be it humor or empathy. Add passion to your presentation delivery. Be the King of the Stage and win this game of thrones! Breathe dragon fire - metaphorically speaking of course!
Dracarys!!!

Transcript: Game of Thrones Viserys Targaryen is the brother of Danny Targaryen who is the protagonist of the story. He calls himself the dragon and has a temper like one as well. He frequently harrasses his sister to the point of causing extreme mental trauma to the girl. He is the reason Danny has so much mental strife within her as the conflict. He dies at the hands of Khal Drogo for his rudeness to his court. Characters Alliser Thorne is a sworn man of the Night Guard, a group of men who protect the Land of the 7 Kindoms from the wildlings in the north. He is the master-at-arms at the Castle Black, where the Night Watch are based. He was moved to Eastwatch after he was found to be to detremental to the welfare of trainees. Queen Cersie Lannister is an ambitious woman and the wife to King Robert. She was also in an incestuos relationship with her brother, Jaime. The heir to the throne is secretly not the children of the king but of this secretive relationship. It was by her command that Eddard Stark be imprisioned. Red Keep is the seat of the King of the land with 7 Kindoms and the sight for much of the plot. It was here that Eddard was called to, it was here where he worked to stop the Lannisters, it was here Robert died, and it was here that Eddard was beheaded. By the end of the book this castle becomes a bastion of power for the Lannisters. John Snow is also a man of the Night Watch like Alliser, however he is a little better tempered than the cruel master-at-arms. He is the bastard son of Lord Eddard Stark and was raised at Winterfel with his half-siblings. He is currently in training to become the next Lord Commander of the Night Watch at this point in the book series. Daenarys Targaryen is the protagonist of this book. She is the last living air of the Targaryen dynasty and has vowed to retake her kingdom from King Robert, "the Userper". She was married to Khal Drogo, however her died from an infected wound several months after the marraige. Danny as she is often reffered to is now the Dragon Queen and fosters 3 dragons at her breast. Winterfrell is where this story starts and the home of the Stark family. It was in the forests sourrounding this castle that the direwolves of the children were found and taken to the castle. At the end of the story it was to be the seat of power for King Robb of the Northern Kindom. Khal Drogo was the husband of Daenarys and the leader of 40,000 Drokthari riders. He had origionally planned on attacking the Land of the 7 Kingdoms, however he was soon killed from an infected wound. It was his death that sparked the climax of the story. by Geourge R. R. Martin Lord Eddard Stark is Lord of Winterfrel and Hand of the King to King Robert. He was sent from Winterfel to be the King's Hand after the death of John Arryn at the hands of the Lannisters. Saddly it was also the Lannisters that cut him down aswell. He was succeded as Hand by Tywen Lannister. Eddard's son is also King of the North as well. Riverrun is the castle of the Tullys the house of Catelyn Stark's childhood. It was here that Robb Stark defeated the Lannisters and won his Kingdom in the North. If this battle had not been won, the Stark's exploites would not have been successful and the Lannisters would rule supreme in the realm of 7 kindoms.

Led by Angus Wall, the Creative Director at Elastic, They did just that. He said he wanted to build the most intricate, beautiful map you could possibly imagine. Goal: Replicate something that looks and acts like a physical object which also have a sense of timeless design; like Leonardo's machines. Everything is made out of materials that the people of Westeros could get their hands on. " we set up the world and started blocking out the sequence. It seemed fruitless to do storyboards because they don’t move and in my mind this whole sequence had to be really dynamic. The camera had to be moving the whole time, taking you on a journey. So we blocked the big moves, the moves from place to place, then focused on how we were revealing the different locations and how they were emerging from the surface of the map." How To Watch the Game of Thrones Franchise in Order
Rachel Ulatowski
Official JustWatch writer
After an almost two-year hiatus, the Game of Thrones franchise is returning to the screen with House of the Dragon season 2, meaning now is a great time to dive into or revisit the fantasy series. This guide will show you how (and where) to watch the Game of the Thrones franchise in order. This includes which TV show to watch first if you're watching in release or chronological order, and where you can find them on streaming services.
Game of Thrones first started as a book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, by author George R. R. Martin. The series became a New York Times bestseller, with all five books earning Locus Award, Hugo Award, and Nebula Award nominations. However, the vast scope of the story, which spans countless story arcs, characters, continents, and time periods, was initially believed to be impossible to adapt, similar to other sci-fi/fantasy epics like Dune and The Wheel of Time .
Martin, as well as TV writers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, admitted that the scale of the book series would be impossible to capture in a film adaptation. Hence, Benioff and Weiss decided to go in the direction of an HBO TV series. The show received widespread critical acclaim for its scale, ensemble cast, and complex story. It pulls from all five of Martin’s novels, as well as two of his future novels, for which he provided the outline. Game of Thrones takes place on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, following a long political conflict between nine noble houses vying for the throne after years of peace were disrupted by the Targaryen madness. Throughout its eight seasons, it follows a large cast of characters, including Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldua), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).
Although the show concluded in 2019, it didn’t take long for the prequel series House of the Dragon to arrive. It adapts parts of Martin’s book Fire and Ice and takes place 200 years before Game of Thrones, following House Targaryen when it ruled the Seven Kingdoms. The show has been very well received, earning numerous accolades, including several for the performances of Emma D’Arcy, Milly Alcock, and Matt Smith. Another prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight , is in development.

- A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight (coming late 2025)
Game of Thrones
There are two ways to watch The Game of Thrones franchise: chronologically or by release date. For those wishing to watch it chronologically, they would watch season 1 (and eventually season 2) of House of the Dragon which takes place in 101 AC. Then, once released, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will take place in 209 AC, between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. You can then finally begin watching all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, which begins in 298 AC.
Watching chronologically removes the risks of spoilers for House of the Dragon, but we recommend watching in the release date order below to understand the Game of Thrones world before delving into the prequel.
How to watch the Game of Thrones franchise in release order
Below you can find the entire franchise in release order, including the latest streaming offers for each of George R. R. Martin's fantasy TV shows. This will show you whether you can watch Game of Thrones on streaming services such as Netflix, MAX, Prime Video and more. We'll also let you know if you the franchise is available to watch legally online for free.
Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
The Targaryen dynasty is at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins when King Viserys breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight
A century before GOT, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg wandered through Westeros, while the Targaryen dynasty ruled the Iron Throne and dragons were still remembered, great destinies and enemies await the incomparable friends.

32 Game Of Thrones Moments That Still Shock Us Today
My jaw is still on the ground.
If you know me, you know I love the HBO show Game of Thrones. I'm a huge fan of fantasy and will always suggest this show as one of the best fantasy TV shows out there because it's so good. But with eight seasons, there are plenty of Game of Thrones moments that still shock us today—so let's get into the ones that still hit years later.
The Red Wedding (Season 3, Episode 9)
I mean, obviously. Whenever anyone thinks of Game of Thrones, The Red Wedding in Season 3, Episode 9 is always the most significant shock we think of. The moment halted television for a good bit of time, and it was all anyone could talk about when two Starks were taken out and several others were killed in the process.
Jon's Death (Season 5, Episode 10)
There's no denying Jon Snow's impact in Game of Thrones, and one of the biggest moments occurs when he dies. His brothers of the Night's Watch betray him for taking in Wildlings to protect them from the Night King and build their armies. They can't move past their biases for the sake of common ground.
Hardhome (Season 5, Episode 8)
I'm pretty sure the Season 5 episode, "Hardhome," altered something in my brain when it first came out because it blew my mind. It's the first time we truly see the Night King in all his power and when he brings back all those soldiers from the dead. There's nothing like it.
Daenerys Eats A Heart (Season 1, Episode 6)
The character arc of Daenerys Targaryen surely needs to be studied for years on end. One of her biggest moments happened in Season 1 when Daenerys must eat a stallion's heart as part of a pregnancy ceremony for the Dothraki. I mean, it's nothing much else but a gross moment, but yeah, it's still pretty shocking.
Khal Drogo's Death (Season 1, Episode 10)
When we talk about Jason Momoa 's best TV shows, his time as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones always comes up – he's Khal Drogo, a great ruler of the Dothraki, and made anyone in his presence quiver in fear. So, color me shocked when this man is taken out by an infection in his chest. No glorious battle – just turned into a vegetable by the end, and then Daenerys finished the rest. It's a shame, and it still shocks me now.
Viserion's Death (Season 7, Episode 6)
The dragons in the world of Game of Thrones have always been mystical beings, especially from the beginning, so in all honesty, it would make sense for another mystical creature to kill one of them. Unfortunately, Viserion was destroyed by the Night King himself and turned into an undead dragon. You couldn't get more shocking – and sad – than that.

Ned Stark's Death (Season 1, Episode 9)
Oh, you knew this would be on here. When Ned Stark was executed in Season 1, I'm pretty sure everyone across the entire planet was not expecting it. I still recall my father yelling at the television, "I thought he was the main character!!" Good memories—and even I now still find it so shocking that he was taken out.
The True Age Of Melisandre Is Revealed (Season 6, Episode 2)
Melisandre became a character in Game of Thrones who stood in the background but played such a vital role in so many powerful lives that she was essentially just as important as everyone else. In Season 6, however, we see just how old Melisandre truly is because when she removes a necklace from her body, she turns her real age—and she is old, old—like centuries old. It's no wonder she's so magical and sketchy.
Daenerys Gets Her Dragons (Season 1, Episode 10)
The final shot of the Season 1 finale of Game of Thrones will forever live on in the TV Hall of Fame. After surviving a burning pyre throughout an entire night, Daenerys emerges from the embers with three newly hatched baby dragons. From there, we see a character literally rise from the ashes and become arguably one of the best characters in TV history.
Sansa's Wedding Night (Season 5, Episode 6)
I'm not going to go into detail about this because just thinking about it makes me sick and still shocks me. Sansa is married to Ramsay Bolton because of Littlefinger, and their wedding night is…not pleasant and quite upsetting to the viewers. If you know, you know. And yes, he got what was coming to him by the end of Season 6.
Rhaegal Getting Speared Out Of The Sky (Season 8, Episode 4)
While Viserion getting taken out by White Walkers almost makes sense, Rhaegal's sudden death shocked me the first time I watched it. Daenerys and the rest of her crew were just souring in the clouds one moment, and then Rhaegal was shot down by Euron and his men. It's messed up – and super sad.
Tyrion Ends Shae (Season 4, Episode 10)
There are plenty of relationships in Game of Thrones, most of which end terribly, and one of the most prominent ones is Tyrion and Shae. While they were certainly lost in murky waters for a bit, Tyrion takes out Shae when he realizes that she betrayed him out of anger—and, in turn, ends her life.
Bran Getting Pushed Out Of The Tower (Season 1, Episode 1)
This is the ultimate shocking moment in Game of Thrones. At the end of the very first episode, Bran mistakenly catches twins Jaime and Cersei together in a tower. Instead of trying to talk the boy into not revealing their intimate secret, Jaime pushes him out of the window to send Bran to his death. Bran doesn't die, but that moment indeed made people keep watching.
Daenerys Burns The Masters (Season 3, Episode 4)
There are plenty of moments in Game of Thrones where Daenerys shows just how powerful she is, and one of my favorites is her in Astapor, where she burns the masters who dared to enslave all the Unsullied. Because of her courage, bravery, and guts to do such a thing after using a ruse to get them all in the same place, the Unsullied follow her, acting as her personal army. It's such a kick-butt, shocking moment.
The Battle Between Jon And Ramsay (Season 6, Episode 9)
You knew I would bring up Episode 9 here of Season 6. The entire battle between Jon's forces and Ramsay's forces was the epitome of shock, and out of every fight in Game of Thrones, this one stands out as one of my favorites. How can it not? That one-take moment of Jon fighting soldier after soldier, body to body, hands down, makes this battle stand out.
The Sept's Explosion (Season 6, Episode 10)
Cersei is a character who has appeared in many Game of Thrones episodes , and she always has some scheme up her sleeve, no matter what. One of her best – and most shocking – is when she blows up the entire Sept of Baelor with Wildfire from underneath the ground. She not only takes out a whole religious sect but almost all of the Tyrells in one fell swoop. However, her son also jumps out of a window afterward, thanks to the grief of losing his wife in the explosion, so it's a win-lose situation.
Sansa Arriving With The Vale (Season 6, Episode 9)
Sansa's character arc in Game of Thrones stands out, and watching her become even more powerful as time goes on is one of my favorite things about the show. When things seem bleak during the battle between Jon and Ramsay and their men, Sansa arrives with backup from the Vale, the final push for a win for the North—all thanks to the connections she has made. Now that's a character arc for you.
Jon Snow Is Actually A Targaryen (Season 6, Episode 10)
Okay, so the Targaryen family tree is intense and crazy, but remember when we discovered Jon Snow was a Targaryen? The finale of Season 6 revealed this crazy moment to us, and while it certainly set up a lot of craziness for what was happening in Seasons 7 and 8, the news shocked the world as a whole to discover that Jon is not just an ordinary boy, but a prince.
Littlefinger Forcing Lysa Out The Moon Door (Season 5, Episode 7)
Littlefinger does these things; none of us should be shocked, but of course, he winds up pushing Lysa Arryn out of the Moon Door of her home. Honestly, Littlefinger is that person who will do anything for power, but it still shocked me to see him so ruthlessly take out Lysa despite her being, well, Lysa and having her issues.
Arya's Revenge Against The Freys (Season 7, Episode 1)
Arya Stark is hands down one of the most powerful Starks, and you can see that entirely in the first episode of Season 7. After spending ages across the sea and learning the ways of the Faceless Men, Arya not only takes out the head of House Frey but wipes out the entire house in general. It's shocking but one of her best moments, and it makes me proud to always be an Arya supporter.
Arya Slays The Night King (Season 8, Episode 3)
Arya's best moments genuinely come from all throughout the show, but I have to say the epitome of her being a fabulous protagonist is when she takes out the biggest villain of the show – the Night King. She uses a dagger to stab it into his heart using a fancy little hand trick, ending the White Walkers one moment. She saved the entire world. That's my girl.
Ygritte's Sad Demise (Season 4, Episode 9)
Relationships don't work out all that often in Game of Thrones, and while the actors who played Jon and Ygritte are married in real life and have a happy ending, their characters do not. During the attack at the Wall in Season 4, during Episode 9, Ygritte is shot in the heart by Olly, a young recruit of the Night's Watch. Jon, despite being her enemy at this point, holds his former lover in his arms as she passes, and yes, I'm still crying years later.
Daenerys Burning Down King's Landing (Season 8, Episode 5)
I think everyone who watched Season 8 was rooting for Daenerys not to turn mad, but it happened, and we have to live with it. Of course, the shocking moment I have to point out is her absolutely leveling Kings Landing with her dragons when she takes on Cersei's forces. She also inadvertently kills Cersei and Jaime in the process. And you know what? I'd still fight for her—forever, my queen.
Theon Greyjoy, Lyanna Mormont And More Die In The Battle Of Winterfell (Season 8, Episode 3)
As the final season, Season 8 featured plenty of significant deaths, but none as much as the third episode, where we saw many people pass in the Battle of Winterfell against the White Walkers. Theon Greyjoy, Lyanna Mormont, Jorah Mormont, Wun-Wun, and many others are taken out, and it still shocks me. I'm just glad that Bella Ramsay, who played Lyanna, is still on HBO as part of The Last of Us , but seeing her so young – certainly does something to you.
Daenerys Riding A Dragon For The First Time (Season 5, Episode 9)
The dragons have always been a big part of Game of Thrones, and in the ninth episode of Season 5, we finally see Daenerys ride one. At this point, Drogon is large enough to hold someone on his back, and Daenerys uses this to escape from her death at the Fighting Pits in Meereen. This moment forever lives in my mind and is still shocking but awesome to watch.
Jon Hanging The Men Of The Night's Watch (Season 6, Episode 3)
I mean, we know that Jon wasn't just going to let the people who killed him live, but I think we're all just conditioned to him being such a great person that this moment was indeed where we begin to see a shift in his demeanor, just slightly. He takes the four traitors, including Olly, and hands them for what they did. He even gives up being Lord Commander after that, with the bodies in the background. It's still shocking even now.
Tyrion Demands A Trail By Combat (Season 4, Episode 6)
Tyrion has some of the best moments in Game of Thrones. I thrive off of his witty comments and advice , but one of his most shocking moments is that speech in Season 4. While on trial for the death of Joffrey, he is accused of several different acts he did not commit, but he knows he will not be served justice. Instead, he demands a trial by combat, a scene still chilling, shocking, and so much more to this day – powered by Peter Dinklage's fantastic performance.
Shireen's Painful Burning (Season 5, Episode 9)
Shireen's death hit the hardest out of all the Game of Thrones side characters. She was just a young girl who wanted to see the world, and her father put her to death because of what Melisandre told him. She burned at the stake, screaming for him. It's still disheartening and sad to watch, even years later. And it's just as shocking.
Oberyn Martell Vs The Mountain (Season 4, Episode 8)
While Pedro Pascal's best movies and TV shows have certainly expanded since his time on Game of Thrones, his last battle as Oberyn Martell is about as shocking as you can get. We don't need to get into specifics because we all know how it ended – but it was undoubtedly eye-popping.
Okay, the pun is done; I apologize.
Jaime Loses His Hand (Season 3, Episode 3)
When you think about it, Jaime losing his hand is a lot more shocking. He tried to utilize his status and name to free himself and Brienne, and in turn, it took away the one thing he's mainly known for—his battling skulls with a sword. Of course, years later, he learns how to wield one with his fake hand, but it is still so shocking to see.
Daenerys Is Killed By Jon (Season 8, Episode 6)
Yeah, the Game of Thrones finale can burn somewhere with the Iron Throne because I hated seeing Jon kill Daenerys and will forever gasp and cry at her limp body. This shocking moment can go somewhere else – even if I can't escape it.
Bran Becomes The King Of Westeros (Season 8, Episode 6)
Do I even need to talk about this? Whoever would have expected "Bran the Broken" to become King? Get out of here – several years later, and I'm still shocked and upset about it.
While the Game of Thrones cast might have moved on to other projects, I'll never forget this show and the shocking moments it gave me. And now, I'll rewatch Game of Thrones repeatedly, even if it breaks my heart and shatters my soul a little more each time.

I visited the 'Game of Thrones' studio 5 years after the series finale. The $37 tour reminded me why I love the show.
Posted: April 12, 2024 | Last updated: April 12, 2024
- I recently visited the Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Northern Ireland for $37.
- It offers an exclusive look at the HBO series , which spent millions of dollars on each episode.
- Even five years after the series finale, the studio is still a worthwhile experience for fans.
It's been five years since the series finale of HBO's "Game of Thrones," but I'm as big a fan as ever.
When a work trip took me to Northern Ireland , I knew I had to detour to the Game of Thrones Studio Tour. By season eight, the HBO drama was spending $15 million per episode , and like any true fan, I wanted a behind-the-scenes look at where some of that money went — and what made the show so visually incredible.
The tour, located in one of the show's original filming locations , Linen Mill Studios, opened in 2022, and standard tickets cost £29.50, or about $37.
I wanted to see just how relevant the studio is today — especially in the lead-up to the new season of the "House of the Dragon" prequel series in June — and if the widespread passion of the fandom is still alive.
It felt like the studio was hidden in plain sight.
There's no onsite parking at the studio, so getting there felt like being escorted to some secret location. Luckily, the instructions were clear: Meet at The Boulevard, a large shopping district in Banbridge, Northern Ireland.
From there, a complimentary shuttle took me down a long, formal-looking driveway. It's easy to see how the studio remained low-key during its filming heyday — it's almost as if it's hidden in plain sight.
My excitement overflowed as I stepped off the bus to blasting theme music and a massive Game of Thrones Studio Tour sign. About 10 other visitors immediately began posing for photographs.
After the 10-minute shuttle ride, it took me a good five minutes to reach security and start the experience, but the atmosphere was already infectious. Even the staff seemed genuinely excited to greet me.
The impressive theming immediately drew me in.
After passing a dragon skull and armored "guard," the tour started with a green-screen photo while we waited for some dramatic doors to swing open.
A tour guide quickly explained the studio rules — mostly, no touching the exhibits (which were used during filming) and absolutely no photos of the pre-tour movie.
I won't spoil too much, but the short film gave me goosebumps. At the end, the screen parted, and we entered the studio from "beyond the wall."
The studio clearly takes immersion seriously.
On the other side of the screen, we were blasted by fog machines before standing toe-to-toe with the Wildlings. Everything was incredibly immersive.
This was one of my favorite rooms. It had elaborate costumes from the show , including coats laden with bones and oysters. I learned that some weighed up to 15 pounds.
I also caught a glimpse of Wun Wun — or, at least, the costume that 7-foot-1 Ian Whyte wore during filming. It supposedly took the actor three to five hours a day to transform into the giant.
It was fun to walk through the different memorable sets.
The studio is made up of a trail of set rooms, including Mess Hall in Castle Black, the Crypts of Winterfell, King's Landing, and the Great Hall of Winterfell.
Costumed mannequins stood in each room to mimic the real scenes from the show.
I learned a lot about the making of the show throughout the tour.
In addition to walking through the sets, I got an insight into the show's creation process.
The 30-foot dragon skull of Balerion the Black Dread took six weeks to make before being shipped to Spain for filming. While standing next to the masterpiece, I could hardly believe that something of its scale could be transported across Europe .
Equally staggering, we learned that the crew went through 52,000 bags of fake snow and 163 tons of propane (for pyrotechnic effects) throughout the series.
Hearing about these intense behind-the-scenes efforts brought the series' magic back to life and made the visit worthwhile for me.
Behind-the-scenes exhibits and interactive experiences made the experience even better.
Other rooms were dedicated to the show's costume design , music creation, and set design. There was even a sword display room that housed famous props like Arya's Needle.
I'd nearly forgotten about the significance of the show's many props before embarking on the tour. But I almost squealed at Jaime Lannister's golden hand.
There were activities throughout the tour, too, including adding your face to the Hall of Faces and creating your own sigil.
I was entranced up until the very end of the experience.
The tour finished at the Iron Throne, a dragon flitting behind the rubble on a digital back wall.
It was a fitting endpoint seeing as it was the location where Jon killed Daenerys, controversially culling her brewing tyranny and ending the series.
I don't think the "Game of Thrones" buzz is going to die down anytime soon.
The studio wasn't packed, but Northern Ireland tends to be a little quieter in February and busier during the Easter holiday and summer. Honestly, I was grateful I missed the heavier crowds.
Overall, the "Game of Thrones" fandom seems to be building momentum rather than slowing down — especially with the second season of "House of the Dragon" looming.
I saw plenty of visitors bringing their children, too, so love for the series seems to be getting passed down to the next generation.
Initially, £29.50 seemed steep to me. But comparably, it's cheap for a studio tour — the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London charges a base price of £53.50.
Plus, I thought it offered great value. It packed so much in and the staff's passion is evident, which makes all the difference for visitors.

'Game of Thrones' sequel centered on Jon Snow isn't happening, actor says
by BROOKE LEFFERTS | Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) — Winter, apparently, is not coming back. Kit Harington has shut down talk of a Jon Snow sequel to HBO’s massive hit “Game of Thrones.”
“There are no plans for it at the moment. It’s off the table for the foreseeable,” Harington told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday, while promoting his new crime drama film “Blood for Dust.”
“Game of Thrones” ended in 2019 after eight seasons, but the prospect of spinoffs were bandied about. Fans had to wait three years for the only one that's aired thus far, the HBO prequel “House of the Dragon,” set two centuries before “Game of Thrones.”
A sequel centered around the popular Snow, who started “Game of Thrones” as an outcast and brother of the Night's Watch and fought his way to more power in Westeros and the truth of his ancestry, had reportedly been in development for a few years.
We sort of threw around a few ideas. Nothing really stuck, and we’re going to leave it there for the moment,” Harington, 37, said.
An HBO spokesperson declined comment to the AP.
The Snow-centric sequel isn't the first spinoff put on ice. In 2019, HBO reportedly dropped a prequel set thousands of years beforehand. Starring Naomi Watts, it had already filmed a pilot episode.
As for Harington, he recently partnered again with HBO for an appearance on the third season of the network’s drama “Industry,” which premieres later this year. The actor said he was “really excited” about being on the show, based on London’s cutthroat financial world.
I just think it’s one of the most unique, interesting, tonally, exciting pieces out there,” Harington said.
The second season of “House of the Dragon” is set to premiere on June 16 — and fans eager for more Westeros can look forward to the prequel “Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.” Warner Bros. announced last week that Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell will lead the series, set 100 years before “Game of Thrones.”

Wicked Casts Game of Thrones Alum Peter Dinklage - But Who Is He Playing?
Wicked just got another major star.
With a cast led by Cynthia Erivo , Ariana Grande, and Jeff Goldblum, Universal's upcoming two-part adaptation of the hit musical Wicked was already packed with major stars. Now, another big name has joined the cast, in a pivotal role.
Universal's presentation at this year's CinemaCon was capped off with a dazzling new trailer for Wicked on Wednesday, along with the news that Peter Dinklage has joined the film's cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Dinklage, best known for his work on the hit fantasy series Game of Thrones , will voice Doctor Dillamond, a key character in the development of the story of the witches of Oz.

Peter Dinklage Joins Wicked as Doctor Dillamond
Dillamond emerges as a history teacher at Shiz University, where he's set apart by the fact that he's the only speaking animal who holds a teaching position at the school. An eloquent, kind talking goat with a passion for teaching, he forms a close bond with Elphaba (Erivo), who learns that Dillamond and speaking animals like him are facing discrimination within Oz, discrimination that the Wizard (Goldblum) doesn't seem keen to stop. This fact, and Elphaba's investment in Dillamond's plight, is a key part of Elphaba's eventual turn to becoming the Wicked Witch of the West.
RELATED: How Ariana Grande's Anticipated Role in Wicked Inspired Her Tattoo
Based on Gregory Maguire's novel of the same name, Wicked purports to tell the untold history of how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch, and how her one-time school friend, Glinda (Grande), eventually became the Good Witch who seemingly opposes her in L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz . Maguire's novel was a bestseller, but the story really took off when it debuted as a new musical in 2003, quickly becoming one of the most successful productions of its era.
Now, Wicked is prepared to take movie theaters by storm. Directed by Jon M. Chu ( In The Heights ), the film adaptation will be a sweeping two-part epic, with a cast that also includes Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and more.
Wicked hits theaters November 27. Its follow-up, Wicked Part Two, arrives almost exactly one year later, on November 26, 2025.
