How to Use Tome AI
A romp through the aisles of Tome AI to generate perfect presentations every time.
The winds of change are blowing, and lo and behold, they reek of artificial intelligence. Nothing, absolutely nothing, escapes this breeze, not even our dear old presentations. It's as if these once plain-Jane PowerPoints are now partying at the glam AI club, decked out in sparkling algorithms.
Just when you thought the disco couldn't get any wilder, the scene is now flooded with such software, dancing, and prancing around, each claiming to be the best partner for your presentation waltz. How do you know whom to choose? Fear not! We've got a knight in shining armor ready to save the day. Make way for Tome AI, your perfect dance partner in this techno-jamboree!
What is Tome AI
What is Tome AI, you ask? Picture a world where AI and storytelling go together like mac and cheese, a divine combination that'll have you salivating for more. Welcome to the domain of Tome AI, a storytelling format where AI doesn't just play a supporting role—it's the lead actor!
You type in a prompt, hit that magic button, and bam! Out pops a fully formed presentation, complete with snazzy images and engrossing text. It's like having a magical genie that turns your every wish into a stunning presentation!
The best part? You can even iterate with AI to get that message, tone, or image just right. Even once the AI has created the presentation, it can switch up the image style or shorten the text for you. All you need to do is ask, and Tome AI will oblige.
You can even use existing documents like creative briefs, strategy docs, or even websites and ask Tome AI to give them a facelift. It is like the plastic surgeon of the tech world, ready to transform your content into a dazzling presentation that packs a punch.
What's more? With Tome AI, you can forget about static, yawn-inducing presentations. This app is all about turning the ordinary into the extraordinary – with everything, from 3D models and animations to videos, data analytics, and social media, at your disposal, you'll never create a presentation that's making people draw open eyes on their eyelids just to get through it.
And let's not forget the cherry on top - the design aspect. With Tome AI, you can create a visually stunning story with smart themes and responsive layouts.
Oh, and did I mention the convenience factor? You can have all your content in one convenient place, and it looks fabulous on any screen. You get a single link that lets you share your tome with the world in an immersive, full-screen experience. It's like having your own personal screening room!
Last but not least, you can not only create awesome content but also keep track of who’s ogling your work with advanced analytics. Who knew being a data nerd could be so cool? Tome did!
Tome AI Pricing
You can use Tome for free, where you get limited access to Tome AI – 500 AI compute credits, to be exact. Other Tome features can be used without any limits for individuals, but for 2+ people in a Workspace, there are limited creations available. If you run out of credits, you can try another app – Gamma AI – that's also amazing at creating presentations; seriously, it's difficult to choose between these two. We've already covered it in the guide linked below.
There are also Pro and Enterprise plans available. The Pro plan costs $10/person per month (or $8 when billed annually) and offers unlimited Tome and AI creations. It also includes other features such as no watermark, the option to import to PDF, custom logos, etc.
Tome also has an Edu plan for students and educators. If you sign up with an .edu account or provide proof of enrollment, you get 5000 computational AI credits that you can use to create or edit the presentations.
Now that you are acquainted with Tome AI, let's get on to the part about using it.
Getting Started
To get started, navigate to tome.app and click the 'Try Tome' button.
Then, sign up using either your email address or your Google account.
Enter your name and role to create a Tome profile and click 'Next'.
Then, enter the name for your Workspace and click 'Continue to Workspace'. A workspace is a shared space where you can collaborate on tomes by adding team members. The name that you enter for the Workspace will become a part of its URL, so choose accordingly.
Choose your Tome plan and click 'Continue'. If you chose Pro, complete the purchase. For Basic users, Tome will be set up and ready to use right away.
Using Tome AI
You will reach the homepage for Tome. The interface is rather easy to navigate.
To create a Tome, click the 'Create' button in the top-right corner of the screen.
A prompt bar (also known as a command bar) will appear at the bottom of the screen. Now, you can either use AI to generate the content or create it yourself.
If you close the prompt bar, you can summon it at any time by clicking on it or using the Cmd + K (Mac) or Ctrl + K (Windows) keyboard shortcut.
In the prompt bar, there will be different options to aid you in the creation process using AI, such as creating a presentation or a page by providing a prompt, creating a presentation from a document, creating an image using a prompt, etc. It will also have other options that don't involve the Tome AI, such as adding text yourself, uploading an image, etc. Some of these can be further customized as well.
For example, if you select 'Create presentation about' from the options, it will load into the prompt bar. You can then alter the number of slides you want the presentation to have by clicking on the number in the upper-right side of the prompt bar and adjusting the slider from the option that appears.
Then, describe the topic of the presentation in the prompt bar. Press 'Enter' to send the prompt to Tome AI.
It will generate an outline for the presentation. You can make any changes to the outline or click the 'Regenerate' button to get a new outline. You can also go back and enter a different prompt. But, if you want to generate the presentation, click on the 'Continue' button to proceed.
Tome AI will begin creating the presentation, and it will cost you nearly 15 AI credits. You can keep the presentation or regenerate it again (this will cost additional 15 credits, though).
Navigating the Tome Editor
The presentation will load in the Tome editor. Now, once the presentation is generated, you can edit it however you like.
You can navigate between different slides using the 'left' < and 'right' > arrows or by clicking the slide number from the pane on the left. You can also rearrange the slides by dragging them up or down. You can also go back to your Tome workspace by clicking the 'back arrow < ' in the top left corner.
There's also a toolbar on the right which houses options to change the theme, add new tiles, and record narration for the presentation. All of these options can also be accessed from the command bar. Click the 'Set theme' button to change the theme.
You can change the theme of the entire presentation or the current page. Switch between the 'Tome' and 'Page' tabs and make the changes.
Click the drop-down menu below Theme to select a theme.
You can also make custom changes to the background color, font, or text color and even save the custom theme for the future by clicking 'Save theme'.
One of the things that impressed me the most was how easy it is to add and rearrange the content with the Adaptive Tile system.
You can drag any tile of content on the page anywhere, and Tome will automatically handle the formatting. Hold and drag the tile; any place where you can drop the tile will be highlighted in pink; drag it onto the desired location.
The content on the page will automatically reformat without anything getting messed up.
You can not only drag and rearrange the existing tiles but also add new tiles. Click on the '+' icon from the toolbar on the right.
Then, drag the type of tile you want to add onto the page.
As you add more content to the page, you don't even have to worry about it fitting onto it. Tome pages are infinite in length; as you add more content, the page keeps growing to fit your needs. But it does not mess with the look of the other pages in the deck.
To delete a tile, simply select it (again, it will be highlighted in pink) and press the Del button.
You can also resize any tiles by dragging the grey handle that appears on the borders of the tile.
To add more pages to the presentation, you can click the 'Add page' button in the bottom left corner and then select the layout of the page you want to enter.
You can also ask Tome AI to enter more pages for you. Go to the command bar and select 'Create page about' from the options. Then, describe what you want the page to be about. Each additional request from the AI will cost you 5 credits.
Tome AI will generate some sample pages. Select the one you want to keep and click the 'Keep' option. You can also ask the AI to regenerate the page samples, but it will count as an additional request to the AI and will cost you 5 credits.
Tome AI can also help with editing written content. While you can't use it to generate written content separately, you can use it to edit the content that is already written – whether generated by Tome AI or written by you. Select the text you want to edit. Then, click on 'AI edit' from the hovering toolbar that appears.
Then, select what you want Tome AI to do – 'Rewrite', 'Adjust Tone', 'Fix spelling and grammar', 'Reduce' (shorten), or 'Extend' the text.
Moreover, you cannot only upload your own images or insert images from Unsplash on Tome for your presentations, but you can also ask the AI to generate an image for you as well. Tome uses Stable Diffusion to create images from prompts. The Tome AI can provide all-rounded help in creating presentations. Go to the prompt bar and select 'Create Image' from the options.
Then, provide the prompt describing the image you want the AI to produce and click on 'Generate'.
The toolbar on the top has further options for presenting, sharing the presentation, renaming, etc.
Whether you're the CEO of a mega-corporation, an ambitious startup founder, or just someone with a story to tell, Tome AI is here to make sure your narrative shines brighter than a disco ball at a '70s party! You will need to work on your prompts to generate great results, though.

Create presentations from scratch with Tome, an AI-powered tool that combines ChatGPT & DALL-E 2
Thanks to the generative storytelling from tome, users will now be able to instantly create story outlines for presentations from scratch..
Artificial Intelligence is redefining the way we carry out routine tasks. The launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in November last year signaled a new era of AI-backed technologies. The chatbot which is the fastest to obtain over 100 million users, renewed hopes for many professionals and also triggered some apprehension – especially of AI taking away jobs.
Be it awe or fear, artificial intelligence is here to stay, and we are likely to witness more of its use-cases in the coming days. While OpenAI’s ChatGPT helps users to generate human-like responses, Dall-E 2 can generate images based on simple prompts . With these AI tools, users found a more efficient way to compose emails, create graphics and newsletters.
Presentations for any business is a medium to inspire, persuade, and inform their target audience. For businesses and professionals, having the right presentation can spell either glory or doom. Even as the world continues to marvel at the possibilities, a new AI tool has surfaced that efficiently creates presentations from scratch. Behold, Tome!
What is Tome?
Tome, a website that uses AI to generate presentations, can prove to be a boon for professionals and businesses alike. It is a combination of ChatGPT and DALL-E 2, as it draws text from the former and images from the latter. The prompts for Tome are reportedly easy as users simply need to describe what they want in the presentation in natural language. Following the prompt Tome will generate around eight slides with corresponding images and texts. As of now, the website also offers a host of templates for users to pick from.
Thanks to the generative storytelling from Tome, users will now be able to instantly create story outlines for presentations from scratch. The tool will also offer catchy and intelligent titles for each slide, apart from page text and page layouts.
“Type in a prompt and watch Tome generate entire narratives from scratch or create additional content pages within seconds. Use our DALL·E 2 tile to create compelling images, tailor-made to bring your idea to life,” reads the description on the Tome website.
How to use Tome?
Users will be required to register and create an account on the Tome website to use the AI tool. Creating an account will let users gain 500 points which will be spent as and when they create new presentations. Reportedly, each presentation will cost around 15 points and adding new slides will cost another five points.
Just like Microsoft PowerPoint, Tome lets users add tables, animations, images, etc., to the presentations which are customisable. While users need not have technical know-how of AI to use the platform, those with expertise can get a lot more from the platform. The key to better presentations here is being more specific with the description or prompt. Interestingly, users do not need to write descriptions. Tome offers audio-to-text descriptions, so one can simply dictate what they want into the tool.
Step-by-step guide to using Tome:
1.Visit the Tome AI website, select ‘Get Tome For Free’ and log in 2.After account creation, make a workspace by clicking ‘create’ on the top right corner 3.Enter simple text description of what you want to see in a presentation 4.Hit Enter and the AI-tool will take care of the rest
The tool will create a PPT of 8 slides with the first slide being the header page, followed by an index page, six pages with subjects based on the description. In case the user wants to edit, they can do so by clicking on the part that needs revision and do it in the same manner as editing on PowerPoint.
As of now, presentations made using this tool can only be viewed on the platform. However, the website lets users generate shareable links to presentations enabling many to view them.

Create your presentation
Writing tone, number of slides.
AI presentation maker
When lack of inspiration or time constraints are something you’re worried about, it’s a good idea to seek help. Slidesgo comes to the rescue with its latest functionality—the AI presentation maker! With a few clicks, you’ll have wonderful slideshows that suit your own needs . And it’s totally free!
Generate presentations in minutes
We humans make the world move, but we need to sleep, rest and so on. What if there were someone available 24/7 for you? It’s time to get out of your comfort zone and ask the AI presentation maker to give you a hand. The possibilities are endless : you choose the topic, the tone and the style, and the AI will do the rest. Now we’re talking!
Customize your AI-generated presentation online
Alright, your robotic pal has generated a presentation for you. But, for the time being, AIs can’t read minds, so it’s likely that you’ll want to modify the slides. Please do! We didn’t forget about those time constraints you’re facing, so thanks to the editing tools provided by one of our sister projects —shoutouts to Wepik — you can make changes on the fly without resorting to other programs or software. Add text, choose your own colors, rearrange elements, it’s up to you! Oh, and since we are a big family, you’ll be able to access many resources from big names, that is, Freepik and Flaticon . That means having a lot of images and icons at your disposal!
How does it work?
Think of your topic.
First things first, you’ll be talking about something in particular, right? A business meeting, a new medical breakthrough, the weather, your favorite songs, a basketball game, a pink elephant you saw last Sunday—you name it. Just type it out and let the AI know what the topic is.
Choose your preferred style and tone
They say that variety is the spice of life. That’s why we let you choose between different design styles, including doodle, simple, abstract, geometric, and elegant . What about the tone? Several of them: fun, creative, casual, professional, and formal. Each one will give you something unique, so which way of impressing your audience will it be this time? Mix and match!
Make any desired changes
You’ve got freshly generated slides. Oh, you wish they were in a different color? That text box would look better if it were placed on the right side? Run the online editor and use the tools to have the slides exactly your way.
Download the final result for free
Yes, just as envisioned those slides deserve to be on your storage device at once! You can export the presentation in .pdf format and download it for free . Can’t wait to show it to your best friend because you think they will love it? Generate a shareable link!
What is an AI-generated presentation?
It’s exactly “what it says on the cover”. AIs, or artificial intelligences, are in constant evolution, and they are now able to generate presentations in a short time, based on inputs from the user. This technology allows you to get a satisfactory presentation much faster by doing a big chunk of the work.
Can I customize the presentation generated by the AI?
Of course! That’s the point! Slidesgo is all for customization since day one, so you’ll be able to make any changes to presentations generated by the AI. We humans are irreplaceable, after all! Thanks to the online editor, you can do whatever modifications you may need, without having to install any software. Colors, text, images, icons, placement, the final decision concerning all of the elements is up to you.
Can I add my own images?
Absolutely. That’s a basic function, and we made sure to have it available. Would it make sense to have a portfolio template generated by an AI without a single picture of your own work? In any case, we also offer the possibility of asking the AI to generate images for you via prompts. Additionally, you can also check out the integrated gallery of images from Freepik and use them. If making an impression is your goal, you’ll have an easy time!
Is this new functionality free? As in “free of charge”? Do you mean it?
Yes, it is, and we mean it. We even asked our buddies at Wepik, who are the ones hosting this AI presentation maker, and they told us “yup, it’s on the house”.
Are there more presentation designs available?
From time to time, we’ll be adding more designs. The cool thing is that you’ll have at your disposal a lot of content from Freepik and Flaticon when using the AI presentation maker. Oh, and just as a reminder, if you feel like you want to do things yourself and don’t want to rely on an AI, you’re on Slidesgo, the leading website when it comes to presentation templates. We have thousands of them, and counting!.
How can I download my presentation?
The easiest way is to click on “Download” to get your presentation in .pdf format. But there are other options! You can click on “Present” to enter the presenter view and start presenting right away! There’s also the “Share” option, which gives you a shareable link. This way, any friend, relative, colleague—anyone, really—will be able to access your presentation in a moment.
Discover more content
This is just the beginning! Slidesgo has thousands of customizable templates for Google Slides and PowerPoint. Our designers have created them with much care and love, and the variety of topics, themes and styles is, how to put it, immense! We also have a blog, in which we post articles for those who want to find inspiration or need to learn a bit more about Google Slides or PowerPoint. Do you have kids? We’ve got a section dedicated to printable coloring pages! Have a look around and make the most of our site!

An AI presentation generator
Tome is a credit-based AI tool that allows users to create presentations from a single text prompt . The generated presentations, or slideshows, contain a complete text template and include AI-generated imagery to accompany the text. From there, the user can make modifications to the generated slideshow and, once they are happy with it, share it with others.
This service leverages the power of AI (artificial intelligence) in the same way that tools like Merlin - Open AI ChatGPT Powered Assistant and docGPT do. Unlike those apps, however, Tome is a web app that does not require the user to have an account with an additional service.
Easily generate slideshow presentations
The interface of Tome is minimalistic, as is the way the service operates. Users simply enter a text prompt (usually the title of their presentation), and the app generates around eight pages of content, including text and images. The content generated by Tome is not "finished" content that the user would present. It is guide content, describing to the user what they should write in each section. The images generated can be somewhat hit-and-miss due to the nature of AI-generated imagery, though the user can adjust the images and even regenerate them if needed.
Credit-based presentation creation
Upon registering with Tome, users are given 500 credits to use. It is possible to earn more credits by referring new users . Each generated page costs five credits, with other AI processes also costing credits. While the service cannot produce a finished slideshow, it is good for creating a working template.

When and where the solar eclipse will be crossing the U.S.
A total solar eclipse will grace the skies over North America on Monday, one of the most hotly anticipated sky-watching events in recent years.
Weather permitting , millions of people in Mexico, 15 U.S. states and eastern Canada will have the chance to see the moon slip between Earth and sun, temporarily blocking the sun’s light .
The total solar eclipse will be visible along a “path of totality” that measures more than 100 miles wide and extends across the continent. Along that path, the moon will fully obscure the sun, causing afternoon skies to darken for a few minutes.
Follow live updates on the solar eclipse
In all other parts of the continental U.S., a partial solar eclipse will be visible, with the moon appearing to take a bite out of the sun. Exactly how big a bite depends on the location.
The first spot in North America that will experience totality on Monday is on Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PT, according to NASA .
After moving northeast across Mexico, the eclipse’s path travels through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Slivers of Michigan and Tennessee will also be able to witness totality if conditions are clear.
In Canada, the eclipse will be visible in parts of southern Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton, at the eastern end of Nova Scotia.
The timing of the eclipse and the duration of totality varies by location. Most places will experience around 2 minutes of darkness, but the longest periods of totality are typically in the center of the eclipse’s path.
This year, the longest stretch of totality will last 4 minutes and 28 seconds in an area northwest of Torreón, Mexico.
Below is a list of timings for some U.S. cities along the path of totality, according to NASA .
- Dallas: Partial eclipse begins at 12:23 p.m. CT and totality at 1:40 p.m. CT.
- Idabel, Oklahoma: Partial eclipse begins at 12:28 p.m. CT and totality at 1:45 p.m. CT.
- Little Rock, Arkansas: Partial eclipse begins at 12:33 p.m. CT and totality at 1:51 p.m. CT.
- Poplar Bluff, Missouri: Partial eclipse begins at 12:39 p.m. CT and totality at 1:56 p.m. CT.
- Paducah, Kentucky: Partial eclipse begins at 12:42 p.m. CT and totality at 2:00 p.m. CT.
- Carbondale, Illinois: Partial eclipse begins at 12:42 p.m. CT and totality at 1:59 p.m. CT.
- Evansville, Indiana: Partial eclipse begins at 12:45 p.m. CT and totality at 2:02 p.m. CT.
- Cleveland: Partial eclipse begins at 1:59 p.m. ET and totality at 3:13 p.m.
- Erie, Pennsylvania: Partial eclipse begins at 2:02 p.m. ET and totality at 3:16 p.m. ET.
- Buffalo, New York: Partial eclipse begins at 2:04 p.m. ET and totality at 3:18 p.m.
- Burlington, Vermont: Partial eclipse begins at 2:14 p.m. ET and totality at 3:26 p.m. ET.
- Lancaster, New Hampshire: Partial eclipse begins at 2:16 p.m. ET and totality at 3:27 p.m.
- Caribou, Maine: Partial eclipse begins at 2:22 p.m. ET and totality at 3:32 p.m. ET.
Other resources can also help you figure out when the various phases of the eclipse will be visible where you live, including NationalEclipse.com and TimeandDate.com .
If you plan to watch the celestial event, remember that it’s never safe to look directly at the sun, including through binoculars, telescopes or camera lenses. Special eclipse glasses are required to safely view solar eclipses and prevent permanent eye damage.

Iowa vs. South Carolina: Start time, live stream, prediction, preview, how to watch the national championship
Caitlin clark looks for a storybook ending to her college career with her hawkeyes taking on the undefeated gamecocks.
It's Championship Sunday in Cleveland. The NCAA Women's Tournament reaches its conclusion when top seeds South Carolina and Iowa clash inside the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse with everything on the line.
The two teams met in last year's Final Four with the Hawkeyes springing the upset to reach the national title game. Now, they meet again with the title at stake.
Dawn Staley's team is on a mission to join an exclusive list of teams that have won the national title with a perfect record. So far, only nine teams have been able to do so.
Despite losing all five starters from last season, the Gamecocks have an even deeper roster and are stronger on both ends of the court. Kamilla Cardoso is the veteran leader, averaging a team-high 14.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest. South Carolina is hard to guard because seven Gamecocks average over eight points per game.
Meanwhile, Iowa (34-4) has had the brightest spotlight this season as Caitlin Clark's re-writing of collegiate basketball scoring records seemed to happen every time the Hawkeyes took the floor. Clark may own all of those individual accolades, but the elusive mission remaining is to win a national championship before she leaves school to enter the WNBA Draft.
Clark leads her team, and the nation, with over 31.7 points per game and a total of 341 assists. However, Iowa is stronger when it's not just Clark shining -- as Hannah Stuelke demonstrated against UConn on Friday with a team-high 23 points in the 71-69 win.
Let's take a closer look at how fans can catch the action Sunday before getting to a key storyline and prediction for the matchup.
How to watch (1) South Carolina vs. (1) Iowa
Date : Sunday, April 7 | Start time : 3 p.m. ET Location : Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse -- Cleveland, Ohio TV: ABC | Live stream: Fubo ( Try for free )
South Carolina vs. Iowa: Key storyline
Can Clark and the Iowa offense break the stout South Carolina defense? These two teams are among the top in the nation in scoring offense (Iowa ranked first at 91.4 points per game while South Carolina was third at 85.4), but the Gamecocks were much tougher on the defensive end, allowing just 56.1 points per game. Clark carried her squad against South Carolina in last year's Final Four with 41 points, but this is a whole different team. It might take one last Herculean effort from Clark on her way out to the WNBA to claim that elusive championship.
Who wins Iowa vs. South Carolina, and what critical x-factor makes one side of the spread hit hard? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the spread hits , all from the expert who's up 371 units since the start of the 2021-22 season, and find out.
South Carolina vs. Iowa prediction, pick
UConn's defense figured out how to disrupt Clark in the Final Four, but the Huskies' thin roster made that difficult to sustain in the second half because of fatigue and foul trouble. South Carolina has considerably more depth, which will allow the Gamecocks to stay fresh against an Iowa team that likes to play fast.
Staley's teams are usually excellent defensively, but the offense has somewhat lagged behind. South Carolina has been much more consistent offensively this season. This team has flexed its dominance on that end several times, registering a program-record six 100+ point games in the regular season. Scoring 100 points on Iowa would be a difficult task, but the Gamecocks will be a hard team for the Hawkeyes to guard as there isn't one main player to focus on.
The Gamecocks have the size advantage and will probably dominate the paint, but they are also capable of shooting from distance if the Iowa defense forces them to like they did in 2023.
Pick: South Carolina

Share All sharing options for: This indie game is about the struggles of pooping on the clock
Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, that’s why I poop on company time. This statement has become a well-worn mantra of the working man, but a recent indie game challenges its wisdom. Please Leave Me Alone, I Need to Poop is a game about balancing biological needs with the demands of the workplace, but it takes a quick hand at some WarioWare-style minigames to meet both urgent needs.
Please Leave Me Alone, I Need to Poop starts with the player character’s boss calling and giving them notes for an important presentation. Unfortunately, this coincides with the protagonist’s need to take a dump. This introduces a very important question: Do you hear your boss out, thus arriving to the presentation well-prepared and ready to go (in more ways than one, unfortunately)? Or do you hang up and sprint directly toward the can?
In order to make it to the presentation without pooping your entire pants, the player has to navigate some minigames. Cleaning up the toilet seat, poking the eye of local perverts who peer between the cracks in the stall, and smacking co-workers who dare block your path to the bathroom are some of the minigames on the menu.
Just vacating your bowels isn’t enough to win this game — you also have to remember all the important data from your boss’s phone call in order to ace the presentation. If you want to sell everyone on the merits of collecting the town’s baby teeth for your boss’s cool uncle Steve (one of many possible presentation topics), you’ll need to pick the right conversation options.
Please Leave Me Alone, I Need to Poop has Kendrick Reinsch, who worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 , voicing the protagonist. Luke Humphrey, who recently worked on Priscilla , brings a certain gravitas to the boss character.
This is one of those games that is incredibly silly, and every single frame or line is stuffed with at least one joke. References to anime, internet culture, and more are included in each playthrough. One run only takes a few minutes, but in order to unlock all the minigames and master all of the presentations, it takes multiple playthroughs. Please Leave is a ridiculous visual novel punctuated by silly minigames, but it also captures the modern struggle of work/life balance in a very evocative way. Is it particularly highbrow? No, absolutely not — but with a title like Please Leave Me Alone, I Need to Poop , it’s unlikely anyone expected that.
The next level of puzzles.

10 top file-sharing services: Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, OneDrive, and more
Most file-sharing services have evolved into full-blown collaboration platforms. we look at 10 online services ranging from basic to enterprise-level..
Back in the pre-cloud days, sharing files involved using file transfer protocol applications or else copying files to a disc and then mailing it or walking it over to a colleague (affectionately known as ‘sneakernet’). Emails could also be sent (and many people still use email as their main “file-sharing” option), but size limits on attachments and security concerns discouraged this practice.
Today’s world of file sharing offers nearly endless options. Giants like Dropbox, Box, Google, Microsoft, and Apple, as well as smaller companies like MediaFire and Tresorit, all offer online cloud storage options that include file sharing, synchronization across multiple devices, and collaboration features. Once you have uploaded a file to one of these services, file-sharing is as easy as clicking a “share” button and then sending the link to a colleague via email. While most offer desktop and mobile applications, users can also upload, store, sync, and share files via a web browser.
The services we’ve chosen are listed here in alphabetical order and cover a range of options, from basic services for consumers to enterprise-level services. This is not an exhaustive list of all services, but rather a sampling of the big players and some lesser-known vendors.
10 top file-sharing services
• citrix sharefile, • dropbox, • google drive, • icloud drive, • mediafire, • microsoft onedrive, • opentext hightail, • sugarsync, • tresorit.
To check file transfer times for each, we uploaded a 245MB ZIP file using an internet connection with an average upload speed of 86 megabits/second. (See “ How we tested .”)
(Click any image in this story to enlarge it.)
It’s nearly impossible to talk about Box without mentioning Dropbox (and vice versa), as the two are frequently pitted against each other. Box has always been geared toward businesses and enterprises, while Dropbox used to be largely focused on consumers and SMBs. But both services now include enterprise collaboration features and cloud content management via integrations with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365/Office 365, and many others, along with enterprise-grade security and management options.
There is a free plan for individudals that lets you kick the tires — it offers 10GB of storage, a 250MB file upload limit, and the ability to share these files with limited permissions. The file upload size limit is a bit strict if you are trying to share video files, but the 10GB storage limit is still pretty generous. Additionally, all of Box’s business plans offer a 14-day free trial.
Free account storage space: 10GB
Free account max file size: 250MB
Paid accounts : Personal Pro, 100GB storage, $10/month; Business Starter, 100GB storage, $5/user/month; Business, unlimited storage, $15/user/month; Business Plus, unlimited storage, $25/user/month; Enterprise, unlimited storage, $35/user/month; Enterprise Plus, unlimited storage, custom pricing. (All business plans require at least 3 users. Prices shown are for annual payments.)
Paid account max file size: Personal Pro, 5GB; Business Starter, 2GB; Business, 5GB; Business Plus, 15GB; Enterprise, 50GB, Enterprise Plus, 150GB.
Additional features with business plans: Built-in integrations with Slack (as well as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace), plus 1 additional enterprise app integration; Box Sign (unlimited e-signatures via web app); Box Relay (workflow automation); data loss protection; two-factor authentication; SSO; Active Directory integration; other user management features. Higher-level plans offer additional enterprise app integrations; HIPAA/FedRAMP compliance; document watermarking; AI-powered threat detection; more.
Time to upload 245MB file: 35 seconds
Citrix ShareFile
ShareFile , which Citrix acquired in 2011, creates a custom file-sharing site for your business, so you can share files easily with clients, partners, co-workers, and others. For example, your accountant might use ShareFile to securely share tax documents with you. The service offers lots of compelling features and tools for business users, including workflow management, document collaboration, e-signatures, and integration with Outlook and Gmail.
Security is robust, too, with enterprise-grade encryption and customizable permissions settings. The ShareFile dashboard makes it easy to add new users and toggle between personal and shared folders. Full-featured apps are available for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. There is no free plan, but you can try the Premium version for free for 30 days without having to enter a credit card number. The company also offers a virtual data room for 5 employee users, which offers advanced security, sharing, and control for sensitive data.
Free account storage space: N/A
Free account max file size: N/A
Paid accounts : Standard, unlimited storage, $50/month; Advanced, unlimited storage, $77/month; Premium, unlimited storage, $122/month; Virtual Data Room, 5GB storage, $338/month. All plans are for up to 5 employee users (additional employee user fees are $10–$24/user/month) and unlimited client users. (Prices shown are for annual payments.)
Paid account max file size : Standard, Advanced, and Premium, 100GB; Virtual Data Room, 5GB.
Other paid options include: Feedback and approvals workflow; activity logs; versioning; third-party integrations including Microsoft 365/Office 365 collaboration.
Time to upload 245MB file: 1 minute, 38 seconds
As previously mentioned, Dropbox and Box are big players in the business market, offering enterprise-level security and management features as well as a healthy ecosystem of integrated third-party apps that make the services more robust. Both have continually evolved and improved to the point that, for most organizations, either one is a great option.
In recent years, Dropbox has been adding features aimed at boosting productivity and collaboration, such as the ability to create Microsoft Office or Google Docs/Sheets/Slides files from within Dropbox and a new shared Spaces interface for team collaboration.
To try before you buy, Dropbox’s free Basic plan for individuals offers 2GB of storage. A 30-day free trial is available for all business plans.
Free account storage space: 2GB
Free account max file size : No limit, but must be smaller than your storage space quota.
Paid accounts : Personal plans include Plus (1 user, 2TB storage, $10 per month) and Family (up to 6 users, 2TB shared storage, $17/month). Work plans include Professional (1 user, 3TB storage, $16.60/month); Standard (3+ users, 5TB storage, $12.50/user/month); Advanced (3+ users, unlimited storage, $20/user/month). For enterprise plans, contact Dropbox Sales. (Prices shown are for annual payments.)
Additional features with business plans: 180 days of file recovery and version history, 180-day history for Dropbox Rewind (recover from accidents/ransomware by reversing changes at folder or account level), remote device wipe, two-factor authentication, document watermarking, shared link controls, file locking, branded sharing, priority email support, and live chat support. Higher-level plans offer HIPAA compliance, an admin console, SSO integration, audit logs, more.
Time to upload 245MB file: 56 seconds
Google Drive
If you’re already invested in the Google ecosystem, Google Drive is a no-brainer, since it integrates with Google’s productivity apps, such as Google Docs. Even if you don’t use other Google services, Google Drive is worth considering, as it gives users 15GB of free storage (shared with other Google services). Its rates are also competitive — 200GB costs individuals just $30/year.
With the Backup and Sync desktop client, you can choose which of your Windows or macOS computer folders to continually sync to Google Drive — you don’t have to keep files in a designated folder, as you do with some services. Permissions on shared files can get complicated — we’ve often shared a link with colleagues only to get a response saying that they can’t access the file. But once you can access a file, collaborating on documents in real time through Google’s other productivity apps is as good as it gets.
Beyond the 15GB free plan, Drive is available to individuals through a Google One plan. Businesses can opt for either a Google Workspace plan, which includes Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and other productivity/collaboration apps, or Workspace Essentials , which includes all of the above except Gmail and Calendar. A 14-day free trial is available for business plans.
Free account storage space: 15GB
Free account max file size: 5TB (with some exceptions )
Paid accounts: Google One plans for individuals: 100GB, $2/month; 200GB, $3/month; 2TB, $10/month; 10TB, $50/month; 20TB, $100/month; 30TB, $150/month. Google Workspace Essentials plans for businesses: 100GB per user/2TB pooled cloud storage, $8/user/month. Google Workspace plans for businesses: Business Starter: 30GB storage per user, $6/user/month; Business Standard: 2TB storage per user, $12/user/month; Business Plus: 5TB storage per user, $18/user/month; Enterprise (300+ users): unlimited storage, contact sales for pricing.
Additional features with business plans: Security and management controls, 24/7 phone and email support, centralized admin console, audit and reporting. Higher-level plans offer advanced endpoint management, data loss prevention, context-aware access, more.
Time to upload 245MB file: 48 seconds
iCloud Drive
Anyone who owns a Mac, iPhone, or iPad likely already has the free 5GB of online storage via iCloud that comes with the creation of an AppleID, and those users can share folders and documents with other iCloud users. Although Apple does offer an iCloud app for Windows, it’s likely that this mainly benefits Apple users who also use a Windows PC; we don’t really see people who are primarily Windows users signing up for an iCloud account to use the service, particularly because iCloud does not have an Android app. Android device users could access iCloud via the web app, but they would likely use Google’s online cloud storage to back up their photos and videos anyway.
As with other online storage services, users can set up iCloud to automatically back up and sync specific folders from their computer to their iCloud account, such as the Documents folder, Desktop folder, or others. Photos and videos from an iPhone or iPad can also be automatically synchronized. Using this feature can quickly eat up the 5GB of free space, so it’s likely that anyone using iCloud for such purposes would upgrade to a paid account . At $3 per month for 200GB, it’s still a relatively good bargain for the Apple faithful.
While iCloud users can use their personal accounts to share files with colleagues (and those files are encrypted in transit and at rest), this is essentially a consumer service.
Free account storage space: 5GB
Free account max file size: 5GB in theory, as long as it doesn’t exceed storage limits.
Paid accounts : 50GB, $1 per month; 200GB, $3/month; 2TB, $10/month. Apple allows these plans to be shared with family members (up to five other members). Those who subscribe to Apple services such as Apple Music or Apple TV+ may also be able to save money through Apple One bundling .
Paid account max file size 50GB, as long as it doesn’t exceed storage limits.
Additional features with paid plans: Upgrading your storage amount doesn’t give you additional features, unlike with other online storage services.
Time to upload 245MB file: 1 minute, 56 seconds
MediaFire is a lesser-known file sharing/storage service. With competitive rates and a free plan that offers 10GB of storage (comparable to Box’s free plan), it may be worth a test drive for the budget-minded. The ad-supported free service lets you upload files up to 4GB, which is very generous, and the service automatically scans files for viruses, which not every file-syncing service offers.
Macs and Windows PCs access MediaFire via a web browser, but the company does offer apps for iOS and Android. You can share file links on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and other sites by generating a one-time download link. The service is very easy to use, with an intuitive interface.
One important caveat: The other services in this roundup offer detailed security information that’s easy to find on their site, but we couldn’t find any specifics on the MediaFire site about encryption or other data protection. The company’s terms of service say, “we work hard to store your data safely and securely,” and its Business plan offers security tools that track the actions taken by user accounts as well as the location, referring domain, and data transfer totals when anyone accesses a file. But the site provides no specific file storage security details, and the company did not respond when we contacted them. Without those details, it’s best to assume that data stored on MediaFire is not encrypted, and the service should not be used for sensitive documents.
Free account max file size: 4GB
Paid accounts : Pro: 1 user, 1TB storage, $3.75/month; Business: 100 users, 100TB storage, $40/month. (Prices shown are for annual payments.)
Paid accounts max file size: 20GB
Additional features with paid plans: Ad-free downloads and sharing, download entire folders; upload from any website; customizable branding; detailed security log.
Time to upload 245MB file: 45 seconds*
* Initial test was about 2 minutes, but subsequent uploads of the same file took 10 and 7 seconds, respectively. We feel that the faster speeds in tests #2 and #3 were achieved due to MediaFire recognizing that the same file was being uploaded.
Microsoft OneDrive
Microsoft’s OneDrive had an awkward youth, stumbling from name to name: Windows Live Folders, Windows Live SkyDrive, and now OneDrive. As is often the case with Microsoft, OneDrive features and capabilities can vary from one version to another (such as personal and business accounts).
Nonetheless, OneDrive integrates nicely with Microsoft 365/Office 365 (not surprising) and Microsoft’s mobile apps, and it offers real-time collaboration in Office documents. A free plan gives you 5GB of storage, which is more than Dropbox but less than Google Drive. The Microsoft 365 Personal plan gives you a hefty 1TB of storage, and the family plan gets 6TB. OneDrive also offers ransomware detection and recovery to paid plans.
Files are protected with enterprise-grade security measures and are scanned for known malware when downloaded. A “Personal Vault” offers two-step verification and auto-locks after 20 minutes of inactivity. It’s also available on all of your OneDrive devices.
Free account max file size: Not disclosed
Paid accounts: For home : OneDrive Standalone, 100GB, $2/month; Microsoft 365 Personal, 1TB storage, $70/year; Microsoft 365 Family, 6TB storage (1TB per person), $100/year. For small business : OneDrive for Business (Plan 1): 1TB storage per user, $5/user/month; OneDrive for Business (Plan 2): unlimited storage, $10/user/month; Microsoft 365 Business Basic: 1TB storage per user, $5/user/month; Microsoft 365 Business Standard: 1TB storage per user, $12.50/user/month. The 365 plans also include access to Exchange, SharePoint, and Teams, and the Business Standard plan includes Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote. Additionally, there are a range of enterprise-level Microsoft 365 and Office 365 plans , starting with Office 365 E1 (1TB storage per user, $8/user/month).
Paid account max file size: 100GB
Additional features with 365 accounts: Ransomware detection and recovery, expiring and password-protected sharing links, file restore up to 30 days. Higher-level plans include 24/7 phone support, advanced data-loss protection, preservation of deleted and edited documents for eDiscovery, more.
Time to upload 245MB file: 33 seconds
OpenText Hightail
Formerly YouSendIt, Hightail features an interface built around shared Spaces, making it well-suited for group collaboration. When you create a new Space, you name and define the project’s goal. You can request approvals on video, photo, and other files in your Space from others; track all recent activity; and keep drafts private but still share them with access codes.
Hightail plays well with other file sharing services, too. You can drag and drop files into a Space from your computer, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. Hightail is versatile, with third-party app integration as well as apps for iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows with automatic desktop folder syncing.
The Lite version is free, with a 14-day trial available for paid accounts. Business plans include Pro, Teams (1-30 users), and Business (3+ users) tiers.
Free account max file size: 100MB
Paid accounts : Pro, unlimited storage, $12/month; Teams, unlimited storage, $24/user/month; Business, unlimited storage, $36/user/month. (Prices shown are for annual payments.)
Paid account max file size: Pro, 25GB; Teams, 50GB; Business, 500GB.
Additional features with paid plans: Delivery notifications, send tracking, custom branding, password protection, live chat and phone support. Higher-level plans offer version control, task management, personal and team dashboards, more.
Time to upload 245MB file : 1 minute, 5 seconds
SugarSync has a slightly confusing usage model. You can designate any file folders on your hard drive to be synced to the cloud — you don’t need to keep everything in a designated folder, à la Dropbox. To sync folders, you right-click them (after installing a SugarSync desktop client). But just in case you want a designated folder, the service automatically creates a syncing folder on your computer called My SugarSync .
But beyond Microsoft Outlook, there are no integrated third-party tools or even two-factor authentication, either of which could be a deal breaker for business users. (2FA aside, however, the company says it follows standard data protection practices, including encrypting data in transit and at rest.) Also worth noting: There’s no free plan, but there is a free 90-day 5GB trial. The 30-day free trials of the paid plans (with more storage) require a credit-card number.
Bottom line: SugarSync is intuitive to use and checks most file sharing/storage/syncing service boxes, but misses some big ones.
Free account storage space: 5GB (on free 90-day trial).
Paid accounts : Personal: 100GB storage, $7.50/month; 250GB storage, $10/month; 500GB storage, $19/month. Business: 3 users, 1TB storage, $55/month.
Paid account max file size: No maximum
Other paid options include: Outlook integration, remote wipe, user management dashboard.
Time to upload 245MB file: 1 minute, 24 seconds
European cloud storage company Tresorit gained recognition with its hacking contest a few years back, offering $50,000 to anyone who could hack into its servers. Tresorit claims no one succeeded. Clearly, the company is going after the security-conscious , promising end-to-end encrypted file sharing and syncing; HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, TISAX, FINRA, and ITAR compliance; ISO 27001 certification; the protection of Swiss privacy laws; non-convergent cryptography; and other security measures. Tresorit includes data residency options available upon request to customers in the UK, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Singapore, the Netherlands, Dubai, and Brazil, and the U.S. states Virginia and California.
Tresorit offers several personal, business, and enterprise plans. It’s fairly easy to use, and you can designate a folder (called a ‘Tresor’) on your hard drive for syncing. Plugins for Outlook and Gmail are available with all plans.
Tresorit has a free tier, but it only lets you send files up to 5GB; you can’t store documents. The free trial of its paid plans is for only 14 days, and you’re required to input a credit-card number.
Paid accounts : For individuals: Premium, 500GB storage, $10.42/month; Solo, 2.5TB, $24/month. For businesses: Business Standard, 3+ users, 1TB storage per user, $14.50/user/month; Business Plus: 3+ users, 2TB storage per user, $19.17/user/month; Enterprise: 50+ users, customized storage per user, $24/user/month. (Prices shown are for annual payments.)
Paid account max file size : For individual tiers: Premium, 5GB; Solo, 10GB. For business tiers: Business Standard, 5GB; Business Plus, 15GB; Enterprise, 20GB.
Other paid options include: Enhanced collaboration and tracking features, admin console, SSO, detailed access logs, branding, more.
Time to upload 245MB file: 1 minute, 26 seconds.
Conclusions and recommendations
By now, most individual users and companies have decided on a single service for their file-sharing and synchronization purposes, and it’s likely one of the big players in the space (Dropbox, Box, Google, or Microsoft). Because most of these offer similar services and features, there may be no need to switch.
If you’re dissatisfied and ready for a change, however, here are our recommendations:
James Martin: Dropbox is my top choice. I’ve been a user since 2008 and never had an issue. The service is supported by a large ecosystem of apps, it’s easy to use and share files with others, and it continues to evolve in positive ways. Though some dislike its revamped Dropbox desktop app, I appreciate the extra features it puts within reach, such as the ability to quickly create Google Docs files. That said, Box, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive are all great choices for most users, depending upon your needs and budget.
Of the services I checked out, I’m only marginally impressed with SugarSync. It’s fine; I like the fact you don’t have to use a dedicated folder for syncing, as you do with Dropbox. But there doesn’t appear to be much feature development going on with SugarSync.
Keith Shaw: As a freelance contributor, I frequently share and receive files with other companies, so I’m not as locked down to a single vendor as other users. In addition, synchronization of files seems less important to me these days, as the cloud basically allows you to quickly grab a file to download should you be working on a different computer. For those reasons, I prefer to use Google Drive, but as James said, the big four are almost interchangeable.
How we tested upload speed
We created a 245MB compressed file (ZIP) consisting of a video (MP4), photos (JPG and PNG), PDF documents, and an Adobe Photoshop PSD file. We then uploaded this file via drag-and-drop through each service’s web upload, timing how long it took the service to give us an “upload complete” message. We conducted three tests and then averaged the time to get the final score. The files were uploaded from a MacBook Pro via 5GHz Wi-Fi connection to a router in the same room. The broadband router provided 85 to 87 Mbps upload speeds, which we verified via Speedtest.net after each vendor’s test.
In most cases, the initial upload of the file took the longest, with the second and third test providing better times. We attribute this to the possibility of some caching by the vendors, but we still saw enough variations that we’re confident in the average time we measured over three uploads of the same file. In all likelihood, users won’t be uploading the same file three different times to the service, and the file sizes and names will vary. Still, once a connection is made between a browser and the service, upload speeds appear to improve over multiple uploads.

Tax deadline approaches: Tips to file on time, obtain extensions and avoid IRS penalties
by JANAE BOWENS | The National Desk
WASHINGTON (TND) — Taxes are due in just a few days, and millions of Americans are expected to ask the IRS for an extension.
Filing taxes can be stressful. If you Google "most hated responsibilities," doing taxes is high on the list.
“One of those mistakes we see people make is that they just get scared so then they put it aside and say ‘no, I don’t want to deal with it at all,” which is about the worst thing you could do," explained Kathy Pickering, Chief Tax Officer for H&R Block, in an interview with CNN.
To file, you will need a W2, an official statement from your employer, which provides your official wage and tax statement. You might need a 1099 form if you are a business owner or have earned interest from investments. You will also need a 1098 form if you have mortgage or student loan interest.
It all can be very intimidating, but there is software like TurboTax. You can also go to a professional tax preparer in person.
If you owe and fail to file on time, the IRS will issue a five percent penalty for each month you are late. The penalty could be as much as 25% of your unpaid taxes.
You know Uncle Sam wants to get paid and they want to get paid April 15, and they're going to punish you if you don't," explained John W. Loyd, seasoned financial and tax advisor and the owner of The Wealth Planner in Texas.
You can get an extension to avoid some penalties. If approved, that will give you six more months to file with everything due on October 15, 2024. The extension has to be filed by Tax Day. You will have to pay any tax you owe by the April filing date.
“What they don't give you is six months of additional time to pay your tax," Loyd added. “There is interest that is going to accrue from April 15th.”
The failure to pay penalty is 0.5% of the unpaid taxes for each month or part of a month the tax remains unpaid. The penalty won’t exceed 25% of your unpaid taxes, per the IRS.
To request an extension , you must file electronically or by mail a 4868 form. You can also pay all or part of your estimated income tax due and indicate the payment is for an extension.
For people getting money back, there are a few bright spots to look forward to.
The fastest way to get your refund is to electronically file and to receive that refund through a direct deposit," explained Pickering.
The average refund is $3,050, about 5% more than last year.
World Bank Tokyo Online Morning Seminar #187 “East Asia and Pacific Economic Update, April 2024 Edition”
Regional growth is projected to ease to 4.5% in 2024 from 5.1% last year, the World Bank’s East Asia and Pacific April 2024 Economic Update says. Growth in developing East Asia and Pacific excluding China is projected to pick up to 4.6% this year, up from 4.4% in 2023. Growth in China is projected to moderate to 4.5% from 5.2% in 2023, as high debt, a weak property sector, and trade frictions weigh on the economy. Among Pacific Island countries, growth is forecast to slow to 3.6% in 2024 from 5.6% last year as the post-pandemic rebound dissipates. The slowdown partly reflects normalization of growth in Fiji to 3.5% in 2024 from an exceptionally strong 8% last year.
At this online seminar, Ergys Islamaj, Senior Economist, Office of the Chief Economist for East Asia and Pacific Region, explained the main points of the report.
