Health and Hygiene Speech

Good Morning everyone. Today we are here to talk about Health and Hygiene. It is often said that health is wealth and to keep ourselves happy, healthy and fit, we need to maintain good hygiene practices. So, let’s begin.

What is Hygiene?

Hygiene means the practices and measures that are taken to keep our body, clothes and surroundings clean and healthy. Hygiene is an essential part of our daily life, without which we cannot live a healthy and disease-free life.

The Importance of Hygiene

Hygiene is important because it helps to keep us healthy and disease-free. When we maintain proper hygiene, we can avoid many diseases and infections.

By keeping our environment clean and hygienic, we not only protect ourselves from diseases but also those around us. We need to maintain hygiene in our homes, schools, and other public places to prevent diseases and epidemics from spreading.

Personal Hygiene

Personal hygiene refers to the practices we do to maintain our personal cleanliness and grooming. It includes keeping our bodies clean, taking care of our teeth, and keeping our hair and nails healthy. Let’s talk about some of the essential personal hygiene practices-

Handwashing:

One of the most important personal hygiene practices is handwashing. We should wash our hands with soap and water after using the toilet, before eating, and after coming back from outside.

We should take a bath regularly to keep our body clean, fresh, and free from germs. It is recommended to bath at least once a day or more if you sweat a lot, or if you are engaging in physical activities.

Oral Hygiene:

It’s important to take care of your teeth by brushing at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing, and visiting the dentist regularly.

We should wear clean clothes as dirty clothes can carry germs and bacteria causing skin infections and other health problems

Environmental Hygiene

Maintaining environmental hygiene is also crucial to a healthy life. It means keeping our surroundings clean and tidy, free from germs, and other harmful substances. Environmental hygiene covers various aspects, such as-

Clean water:

The water we drink should be clean and germ-free. We need to ensure that our water sources are clean and properly treated

Sanitation Facilities:

We need to have proper sanitation facilities, such as toilets, washrooms, and garbage disposal systems, to maintain hygiene at homes, schools, and other public places.

Cleanliness:

We need to maintain a clean environment by getting rid of any waste, litter, or dirt around us. We need to clean our houses, rooms, and other common areas regularly.

Food and Nutrition

A healthy and well-balanced diet is essential for good health. We need to eat nutritious food to keep our body healthy and to prevent diseases.

Here are some tips for maintaining good food and nutrition hygiene-

Eating Clean:

It’s important to eat clean food that has been washed and prepared correctly to avoid any contamination or infections.

Variety in food:

We need to eat a variety of foods that provide us with all the necessary nutrients that our body needs.

Drink enough water:

We need to drink at least 2-3 liters of water every day to keep our body hydrated and to flush out waste products from our body.

Benefits of Maintaining Hygiene:

There are many benefits of maintaining hygiene practices, such as-

Good Health:

When we maintain proper hygiene, we can avoid many diseases, infections, and illnesses, leading to good overall health.

Clean Environment:

When we maintain cleanliness, it helps to keep our surroundings clean and tidy. A clean environment helps to prevent the spread of diseases and illnesses.

Improved Confidence:

When we maintain good hygiene practices, it helps to improve our confidence and self-esteem.

Positive Attitude:

Maintaining hygiene habits regularly helps to develop a positive attitude towards life.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, maintaining good hygiene is essential for a healthy life. We need to develop good hygiene habits and practice them daily to avoid illnesses and diseases. We should teach the importance of hygiene to our children and encourage them to practice it regularly.

Thank you for listening.

Essay, Paragraph or Speech on “Hygiene” Complete English Essay, Speech for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

When the word ‘hygiene’ comes in our mind, it reminds us about health and cleanliness. The habit of keeping oneself clean and maintaining hygiene is very important. There is a saying that says, ‘Cleanliness is close to Godliness’. Here hygiene and cleanliness means a long-lasting part of one’s life that is very necessary for healthy body and mind. Besides providing a decent and pleasant look, hygiene and cleanliness of our body keeps diseases away. Thus, maintaining cleanliness is required for a long and healthy living.

A person can lead a good and diseases free life if both body and mind is in a good and healthy condition. A person avoiding and neglecting hygiene of his body and clothes suffers bad health. Dirty skin, clothes, house, surrounding, etc. are all harmful for one’s health. We must stay away from dirt because it results into diseases. To keep dirt away from us, we should keep our body clean. A person with filthy habits and dirty hands, face and clothes has no pride for himself. He loses respect of his family, relatives and friends. Thus, hygiene is not only necessary for one’s health but also to gain respect and appreciation of others.

Personal hygiene includes washing our hand, mouth and face regularly. We must regularly use cleaning agent like soaps, hand sanitizes, hand gels, etc. Whenever we take out our shoes, we must clean our legs with soap. Keeping legs clean creates positive effect on our body balance. Washing vegetables with clean water before cooking them, cutting our nails regularly, cleaning our nose, ear and hair are hygienic habits. We should not touch our mouth and face often at public places. Going to our bed with school dress or with outside clothes is bad for our as well as others hygiene. Cleaning teeth twice a day is very necessary for good dental health.

Being hygienic is an important social duty just like other social duties. Keeping our house clean is not enough. We should think broadly not only by keeping our house clean but also our neighborhood, schools, footpath, our body, our daily usable things, etc. free of dirt and filth. Generally, many have been noticed throwing out dirt of their houses. This must be completely avoided.

As students, let us all take oath: “Hygiene is our motto and shall promote it”.

Paragraph on Personal Hygiene

Students are often asked to write a paragraph on Personal Hygiene in their schools. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 200-word, and 250-word paragraphs on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

Paragraph on Personal Hygiene in 100 Words

Personal hygiene means keeping your body clean. It is important for staying healthy. Every day, we should brush our teeth twice to keep our mouth fresh and free from germs. Bathing or showering every day helps get rid of dirt and germs on our skin. We need to wash our hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet to stop germs from spreading. Keeping our nails short and clean stops dirt from hiding under them. Wearing clean clothes makes us look nice and keeps us from getting sick. Remember, staying clean helps us feel good and keeps us and our friends healthy.

Paragraph on Personal Hygiene in 200 Words

Personal hygiene is about keeping your body clean to stay healthy and feel good. Imagine your body is like a car; just like a car needs regular washing to shine, your body needs a bath to stay fresh. When you bathe, you wash away dirt and germs that can make you sick. Washing your hands is super important, too, especially before eating and after using the bathroom. Your hands touch so many things and can pick up tiny germs that you can’t even see. Brushing your teeth twice a day keeps your mouth clean and your breath nice. Don’t forget to scrub your teeth, gums, and tongue! Wearing clean clothes is part of personal hygiene as well. Dirty clothes can hold germs and don’t smell good. Your hair also needs washing regularly with shampoo to keep it clean and shiny. Keeping your nails short and clean stops dirt from hiding under them. Remember, when you take good care of your body, you feel happier, look better, and keep away from sicknesses. So, always try your best to stay clean, from your head to your toes! It’s not just about looking good; it’s about being healthy and showing respect to yourself and others.

Paragraph on Personal Hygiene in 250 Words

Personal hygiene is about keeping your body clean and healthy. It’s like having your own set of good habits that stop germs from making you sick. Imagine germs are like tiny bugs that can’t be seen with our eyes but can cause illnesses. Now, think about all the things you touch during the day – from your phone to door handles. These objects can have germs on them. When you touch them and then touch your face, you can move those germs to your body. That’s why washing your hands with soap and water is super important, especially before eating and after using the bathroom. It’s like a shield against these invisible bugs.

Taking a bath or shower every day is also part of personal hygiene. It washes away sweat and dirt that can make you smell unpleasant and also helps to keep your skin clear. Remember to brush your teeth at least twice a day to keep your breath fresh and avoid cavities – those are little holes that can form in your teeth if they’re not taken care of. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about feeling good too. Wearing clean clothes, taking care of your nails, and combing your hair might seem small but they all add up to make a big difference in how you feel and how others see you. Good personal hygiene helps you stay healthy, shows that you respect yourself and others, and it makes sure you’re ready to learn and play every day.

That’s it! I hope the paragraphs have helped you.

Personal hygiene

Actions for this page.

  • Good personal hygiene is one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves and others from many illnesses, such as gastroenteritis.
  • Wash your hands regularly, especially before preparing or eating food and after going to the toilet.

On this page

Hand washing, personal hygiene for women, personal hygiene for men, travelling hygiene, where to get help, things to remember.

One of the most effective ways we have to protect ourselves and others from illness is good personal hygiene. This means washing your hands, especially, but also your body. It means being careful not to cough or sneeze on others, cleaning things that you touch if you are unwell, putting items such as tissues (that may have germs) into a bin, and using protection (like gloves or condoms) when you might be at risk of catching an infection. Personal hygiene, such as bathing, is very much dependent on the culture in which you live. In some cultures, it is expected that you will wash your body at least every day and use deodorants to stop body smells. Other cultures have different expectations.

Body smells are caused by a number of factors working in combination, including:

  • Chemicals in sweat, including pheromones, which are made by the body and sexually attract (or repel) other people.
  • Wastes excreted through the skin, such as metabolised alcohol.
  • The actions of bacteria that live on the skin and feed on dead skin cells and sweat.
  • Unwashed clothes, such as underwear and socks.

Most infections, especially colds and gastroenteritis, are caught when we put our unwashed hands, which have germs on them, to our mouth. Some infections are caught when other people’s dirty hands touch the food we eat. Hands and wrists should be washed with clean soap and water, using a brush if your fingernails are dirty. Dry your hands with something clean, such as paper towels or hot air dryers. You should always wash your hands:

  • After using the toilet
  • Before making or eating food
  • After handling dogs or other animals
  • If you have been around someone who is coughing or has a cold.

The vagina is able to clean itselfno special care is needed, other than washing the external genitals. Do not put anything like douches into the vagina, as the delicate skin can be damaged. Here are some personal hygiene suggestions for women:

  • Menstruation - wash your body, including your genital area, in the same way as you always do. Change tampons and sanitary napkins regularly, at least four to five times a day. Always wash your hands before and after handling a tampon or pad.
  • Cystitis - is an infection of the bladder. This is a common condition for sexually active young women. Urinating after sexual intercourse can help to flush out any bacteria that may be in the urethra and bladder.
  • Thrush - some soaps and detergents can irritate the skin of the vagina, and make thrush infections more likely. Some people find that they often get thrush when they use antibiotics. Use mild soap and unperfumed toilet paper. Avoid tight, synthetic underwear. Try cotton underwear, and change regularly. There is medical treatment for thrush, so talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

A build-up of secretions called smegma can form under the foreskin of uncircumcised men. If you are uncircumcised, gently pull back the foreskin when you have a shower and clean with water. You can use soap if you like, but make sure you rinse it off well.

Good dental hygiene includes regular brushing and flossing. Bad breath can be caused by diseases of the teeth, gums and mouth, such as infections. Most people have bad breath first thing in the morning because saliva is not made while you’re asleep. Some foods that can cause bad breath include garlic and onion. Mouth washes, mouth sprays and flavoured chewing gum can make your breath smell better for a while, but if you have a health problem in your mouth, you need to see your dentist.

When travelling overseas, take special care if you’re not sure whether the water is safe. Suggestions include:

  • Drink only bottled water.
  • Don’t use tap water to clean your teeth.
  • When you wash your hands, make sure they are totally dry before you touch any food.
  • Don’t wash fruit or vegetables in unsafe water.
  • If you have no other water source, make sure the water is boiled before you drink it by holding it at a rolling boil for one minute.
  • Make sure any dishes, cups or other utensils are totally dry after they are washed.
  • Your doctor

Speech On Cleanliness - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

  • Speech On Cleanliness

Cleanliness is really important in everyone's life. It is essential for maintaining a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Every individual is taught the value of cleanliness from childhood, particularly in school. Teachers use a variety of strategies to teach kids this vital lesson, such as having them prepare speeches about the value of cleanliness.

10 Lines Speech On Cleanliness

Short speech on cleanliness, long speech on cleanliness, cleanliness: what is it, how can i keep my house clean, importance of cleanliness..

Speech On Cleanliness - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

Cleanliness is directly linked to our health and hygiene. A clean environment helps prevent the spread of diseases and reduces the risk of infections. We must maintain cleanliness in our homes, offices, schools, and public places to ensure good health.

A clean and tidy environment not only looks good but also has a positive impact on our mental well-being. It creates a welcoming atmosphere and makes us feel more relaxed.

Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. It is not just the job of a single person or department, but it is the responsibility of everyone. Keeping our surroundings clean demonstrates our commitment towards our community and the environment.

Cleanliness is also about preserving the environment. Keeping our environment clean helps conserve natural resources and prevent pollution. Our responsibility is to reduce waste, recycle, and use environmentally-friendly products to protect our planet.

Cleanliness has a positive impact on the economy as well. A clean and well-maintained environment attracts tourists and businesses and helps create a positive image of the country.

Cleanliness is a reflection of our personal pride and self-respect. It shows that we take pride in our surroundings and take our responsibilities seriously.

Cleanliness must be taught and practised from a young age. Children must be taught the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and instilled as a habit.

Cleanliness is a social responsibility that we all must take seriously. By keeping our surroundings clean, we are contributing to the well-being of ourselves and our families and the well-being of our communities and society at large.

A clean and well-maintained environment can significantly improve the quality of our lives. It can help reduce stress, increase happiness, and create a sense of pride and ownership.

When we lead by example and clean our surroundings, we set a good example for others. Our actions can inspire others to adopt cleanliness as a habit and positively impact the community.

One crucial component of a good life is cleanliness. It is a state of being free from dirt and germs or clean. As important as breathing, eating, and drinking are hygiene habits.

Since cleanliness is equated with godliness—maintaining cleanliness is equivalent to dedicating oneself to God—this practice should be encouraged early. We protect ourselves against multiple viruses and harmful germs that can make us ill by keeping ourselves and our environment clean.

We can all help keep ourselves and our environment clean with a little effort. Every day, we should take a bath, wash our hands before and after meals, brush our teeth twice a day, comb our hair once a day, and follow other personal hygiene routines. To keep our surroundings clean, we should always put trash in the trash can, sweep and mop the floor, pick up any food scraps that fall on the floor when dining, and engage in other similar behaviours.

We may ignore our surroundings to maintain our cleanliness or hygiene, such as after cleaning the house or dumping rubbish on the road. There are better ways to go. Always make little efforts to keep things tidy, and refrain from doing things that detract from the beauty around us.

Mahatma Gandhi, referred to as the "father of the nation" by all Indians, toiled assiduously to free India. He once remarked, "Sanitation is more important than independence" and "You cannot make your towns and cities clean as long as you do not take the broom and the bucket in your hands."

When we talk about cleanliness, people frequently have broad conceptions of it. People have started to notice clean cities, clean highways, clean environments, and clean nations. When people think about these widespread phenomena, they forget about themselves. On a personal level, cleanliness starts.

Everyone should put themselves first before anything else. Since general sentiments or notions about cleanliness can be realised, everyone should keep themselves clean and hygienic. As Mahatma Gandhi also said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world," everyone should start with themselves to enhance the cleanliness of the entire country.

By taking a daily bath, washing one's hands and feet after entering from the outside, keeping one's home tidy and hygienic, cutting one's hair and nails as needed, etc., one can keep themselves tidy. Most people disregard and casually approach these tasks, which does nothing to help them maintain their hygiene.

Everyone knows that having good physical health helps maintain good mental health and that someone in good physical and mental health can give their all to their country. Maintaining a clean environment makes it possible to practise excellent hygiene, which is necessary to stay healthy.

First and foremost, as I already mentioned, we are in the first stage. One can keep oneself and their family healthy by taking a daily bath, maintaining one's hair and nails, regularly cleaning the home, washing the floors, etc... He can also help society by promoting environmental preservation.

There are many ways to create a clean environment, such as limiting plastic and related trash, recycling and reusing resources like water, using bicycles or electric vehicles, planting trees, maintaining clean surroundings, and many more. Personal satisfaction is also guaranteed in this way.

Further development results from beginning with ourselves. When someone keeps themselves, their environment, and their surroundings clean, it signals to other people that they should do the same. Additionally, this message is transmitted to the following generations. Cleanliness spreads from a clean home to a clean village, then a clean city, state, and nation.

Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014 on Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, keeping in mind the value of cleanliness for everyone. This has had fantastic results; there has been a significant increase in the number of toilets across the nation, improving sanitation for people.

Cleanliness is extremely important, like other fundamental needs like food, water, and shelter. It's one of the most important requirements for living a healthy life. By keeping the environment clean, we can truly thank Mother Earth. I hope you all enjoyed it, found some motivation to maintain cleanliness, and will encourage others to follow your lead.

A Speech On Cleanliness is usually given to address the importance of tidiness within and around the individual and society. Cleanliness is a vital way to live a healthy life. One who keeps clean keeps the diseases far away from him. In this article, you will understand the way to speak on the importance of cleanliness and ways to maintain it in a simple and easy language. There will be a variety of formats to present your topic in, it can be a Long Speech On Cleanliness or a Short Speech On Cleanliness.

Long and Short Cleanliness Speech In English

Long speech on cleanliness.

This kind of Speech On Cleanliness is helpful for students in grades 8-12, as there are many awareness programs held now especially in schools so students can present with a Long Speech On Cleanliness. Take a look below.

Good Morning and a very warm welcome to everyone gathered here, today I ABC (mention your name) have the opportunity to speak on the importance of cleanliness. We have all heard of the saying Cleanliness is next to Godliness, which means it is in clean places that God resides. Many would like to keep their houses clean but throw their household waste into the streets irresponsibly, which is harmful to the environment.

When one thinks of cleanliness, it is important to understand that cleanliness can be explored on many levels. Personal cleanliness means maintaining personal hygiene on day to day basis in the ways like brushing your teeth twice a day, taking bath every day, keeping your hair tidy, making up your bed, cleaning your cupboard, wearing clean clothes, doing laundry regularly, eating clean by avoiding junk foods, tidying up your reading desk, and keeping your room clean. Personal cleanliness is very important in order to lead a healthy life. At the same time, it is important to be considerate of the environment we live in and take accountability to keep our surroundings clean as well.

We must be aware of our surroundings and the harm it causes when we destroy it by making dirty littering plastics all around. Environment cleanliness is equally important, which is why our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started a campaign to keep India clean by keeping our surroundings clean called “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.” It is our responsibility to make the Swachh Bharat Mission a successful one as this is also a responsibility towards our nation. Often when tourists visit India, they complain about the lack of cleanliness, leaking sewage, open defecation, and the lack of awareness to practice proper hygiene. This kind of attitude gives a wrong impression of India and Indians.

There are so many steps already taken in the direction of the success of this mission, by making dustbins available on every street and by building public toilets, especially in villages. This practice will be helpful for our health as well. When one lives in unhygienic conditions, it is an invitation for diseases. Unhygienic conditions only serve as a breeding ground for more harmful bacteria and viruses. As we have learned during this pandemic due to the outbreak of a virus the only way to keep it afar is by staying neat and clean, always cleaning hands after touching a surface, and cleaning up after you come home from a long day of work. Cleanliness will keep you healthy, when you are healthy you are capable of taking healthy and fit decisions for yourself and lead an active life.

A cleaner lifestyle is helpful for you and everyone near you. So, when making these small changes, your life will also have a bigger impact. Share the same with your near and dear ones and help them to lead a clean and healthy life as well, and lead by being an example to them.

Thank you.

Good morning everyone I ABC (take your name) am thankful for this opportunity to speak on Cleanliness and its importance and benefits. Cleanliness is the Gandhian way of living, so in 2014 on Gandhi Jayanti, our Prime Minister launched a mission to promote the idea of clean living further by pledging to build toilets in remote villages and small towns and providing a hygienic sanitation facility. Cleanliness is important at every stage of life be it in our own personal way or when we are a part of society.

When we live a clean life we lead a healthy and disease-free life. Take small steps towards the greater good of society and one can always start at home. Keeping our rooms and homes clean is the first step towards a cleaner life, personal hygiene can be maintained by taking care of our health and bodies clean, taking bath daily, brushing our teeth twice. Throwing the plastic or any food waste in the dustbin. One must maintain cleanliness at the workplace as well, and inevitably this will show a great impact on society and enhance environmental cleanliness. To keep the environment clean, do not engage in littering on the streets or urinating in public rather use a public toilet for sanitation.

Cleanliness will help you in taking good care of your own health while also keeping the environment clean. When the environment is clean, we lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Cleanliness should not be a one-time mission, it should be a practice and a daily habit. Stay clean and stay disease-free.

The sewage system must be checked often to keep from leakage.

The Indian Government has also taken many steps in ensuring cleanliness in our country like the “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.”

In the Swachh Bharat Mission, the government has pledged to build public toilets for providing proper sanitation facilities.

Using plastic bottles and plastic materials to store something can also diminish the chance of blocking the drainage system. 3 Minutes Speech on Cleanliness for Students

Short speech on cleanliness.

Hello everyone, I am here to present a speech on cleanliness. In India, it is a saying that goddess Laxmi ( the goddess of wealth and money)  resides where the cleanliness persists. Thus, cleanliness and hygiene are always a priority and important in Indian culture. Also when we see a place or home which is clean it gives us visual treat and pleasure. Cleanliness is also important to maintain good health and quality lifestyle. Cleanliness can also be attributed to a habit of successful people. Next to hard work, cleanliness tells a lot about a person’s character.

speech on cleanliness

With the coming of the new government in the country since 2014, cleanliness is given priority on the whole new level through “Swachcha  Bharat Mission”. The “ Swachacha Bharat Mission” has targeted to clean the country by the year 2030. Also, our national leader  Shri  Mahatma Gandhi has always preached every citizen of the country to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

Why Maintain Cleanliness?

It is no rocket science to understand that cleanliness is very important in maintaining the health of the family members and the whole nation. As lack of cleanliness and hygiene gives rise to a number of germs. This leads to several deadly diseases ultimately affecting the health of the overall nation. Thus to lead a healthy lifestyle we need to adopt cleanliness in our daily routine.

How to Maintain Cleanliness?

We  should  follow  and   teach our  younger  generation to follow  some basic steps  to maintain cleanliness  on day  to day  basis  like:

  • Brushing teeth before eating anything in the morning.
  • Always wash hands after using the toilets.
  • Always wash hands before eating anything.
  • Wear washed clothes.
  • Always use dustbin to throw the garbage.

Other than these, the females and other members in the house should maintain cleanliness by washing the vegetables before use, cleaning house floors daily with disinfectants, etc. Maintaining human health and hygiene is important but maintaining environmental cleanliness is also equally important.

Maintaining  Environmental Cleanliness

The earth is our home. It provides us with many things of our daily use as food, water, and air. Thus,  we should consider it as our home and become responsible for maintaining its cleanliness. Due to continuous population explosion, we can see here and there, packets of food, plastic beverages bottles, littering, pollution which is making our earth dirty. The environmental cleanliness can be enhanced by adopting measures such as usage of dustbin while traveling or using roads, avoiding spitting and throwing garbage in the surroundings, avoiding usage of plastic bags,  and adopting measures of recycling.

Cleanliness is not only a  necessity but it can also become a habit. A  responsible person is also a clean person. By adopting cleanliness in our home and surroundings, we will contribute to building a healthier nation. A smile is contagious so is cleanliness. When you see a person or a home clean, it also motivates you to clean your surroundings. Thus, we should encourage a number of people to adopt cleanliness measures by mouth publicity or doing awareness camps through advertisements, banners hoarding, etc, spreading awareness on less use of plastic, spreading awareness on the use of recycled products and biodegradable products. With a collective effort, we can achieve cleanliness and in turn, we can get good health and happiness as a reward.

Jeremy Hunt

Budget 2024: key points at a glance

Jeremy Hunt has announced his financial update – here are the main points, with political analysis

  • Politics live: latest news and reaction on UK budget
  • Hunt announces 2p cut in national insurance

Hunt’s opening remarks

Jeremy Hunt says the UK economy has dealt with the financial crisis, the pandemic and energy crisis caused by war in Europe. He acknowledges that interest rates “remain high as we bring down inflation”, but adds: “We can now help families not just with cost of living support but with permanent cuts in taxation.” He calls it a “budget for long term growth”.

Peter Walker, deputy political editor: Anyone who had forgotten this is an election year will have been reminded after Hunt launched into an overtly political opening section, which criticised Labour’s supposed spending plans before he set out even one of his own.

National insurance

Hunt confirms that the national insurance contribution rate will be cut from 10% to 8% of pay from April.

This comes on top of a 2p cut in the autumn statement in November, which reduced the rate from 12% to 10%.

It is estimated that the 2p cut to national insurance would be worth about £450 a year for someone on a £35,000 full-time salary.

PW: This is the worst-kept fiscal secret in Westminster, as briefed and reported more or less everywhere. It will be popular with Tory MPs – but the same ruse was tried in the autumn statement, and did not shift the polls at all. Hunt says the “long-term ambition” is to cut it further when possible.

Hunt says the economy is expected to grow by 0.8% this year and 1.9% in 2025. That is slightly stronger than the 0.7% and 1.4% growth rate expected by the Office for Budget Responsibility at the time of the autumn statement in November.

Growth is then forecast to be 2% in 2026 before dipping to 1.8% and 1.7% in 2027 and 2028.

PW: For all that successive fiscal statements have been billed as a “budget for growth”, even these forecasts are fairly anaemic, and unlikely to instil new hope in Tory MPs facing electoral defeat. This is the big, and perhaps insurmountable, challenge the government faces.

Inflation is expected to fall below the government’s 2% target in “just a few months’ time”, Hunt says, down from 4% in January. “Nearly a whole year earlier than forecast in the autumn statement,” he adds.

The Bank of England’s long-term target is to keep inflation at a “low and stable” 2%.

The figure is down sharply from a peak of 11.1% in October 2022, as food and energy prices have eased.

PW: Inflation is something of a rare political safe zone for Hunt and Sunak, given it looks like the only one of the PM’s five pledges to be met. Falling inflation is also something that you don’t need a focus group to realise it will be welcomed by voters, whoever gets the credit.

Government borrowing

Hunt says underlying debt, which excludes Bank of England debt, will be 91.7% of GDP in 2024-25 according to the OBR, then 92.8%, 93.2%, 93.2% before falling to 92.9% in 2028-29. “We continue to have the second lowest level of government debt in the G7, lower than Japan, France or the US,” he adds.

Hunt says borrowing falls from 4.2% of GDP in 2023-24, to 3.1%, 2.7%, 2.3%, 1.6% and 1.2% in 2028-29. “By the end of the forecast, borrowing is at its lowest level of GDP since 2001,” he adds.

PW: Election looming, anyone? Hunt’s section on borrowing and debt is launched with an attack not just on Labour but also the Liberal Democrats. It is not a coincidence that Hunt faces a very strong Lib Dem challenge to keep his Surrey constituency.

Public services

The chancellor has kept a 1% increase in day-to-day public spending above inflation, despite speculation it would be cut to just 0.75%.

Military spending will rise to 2.5% of GDP “as soon as economic conditions allow”, Hunt says. It is now at 2% of GDP.

PW: In talking about public services, Hunt faces the problem experienced by Rishi Sunak at every prime minister’s questions – he has to argue they are performing well, when more or less every voter in the UK disagrees. Arguing that the solution is not about money but “a more productive state” might cheer some Tory MPs and thinktanks, but is always easier to say than deliver.

Hunt announces a “landmark public sector productivity plan” will be published today, including cutting form filling by doctors using AI, digitising hospital processes and improving the NHS app. He adds: “We need a more productive state, not a bigger state.”

“I want this groundbreaking agreement with the NHS to be a model for all our public services” including education, the police, courts and public government, Hunt says. In the next spending review, the Treasury will prioritise applications for money from departments that show potential savings for the public purse in the long term.

PW: The idea of a “paperless” NHS is also by no means new, although it seems Hunt is pledging some extra money to make it more efficient.

Child benefit

Hunt announces a consultation on child benefit rules, to apply it to collective household incomes rather than for individuals from April 2026. He says the threshold will be for a high income tax charge on the benefit will be raised from £50,000 to £60,000. The top of a taper to withdraw the benefit will be raised to £80,000 from £60,000 at the moment.

The household support fund, introduced by the government in 2021 to help families struggling with the cost of living, has been extended by six months.

PW: This is another tweak that will help higher earners, but Hunt will know from fellow Tory MPs – and probably from some constituents – that the thresholds for child benefit, which used to be universal, can cause some angst, as well as confusion.

Hunt says rates paid to nurseries to fund free childcare hours for parents of children aged more than nine months will continue for the next two years. The payments have become worth less to nurseries in recent years as inflation has risen sharply, cutting into childcare providers’ budgets. Hunt says the move will allow an extra 60,000 parents enter the workforce in the next four years.

PW: The seemingly serious wobbles faced by the government’s 30-hour free childcare offer for younger children has unsettled quite a few Tory MPs, who fear it will cause chaos if it doesn’t work. Hunt promises more support – but is vague as to what, and how much.

Non-dom tax status

The chancellor confirms non-dom tax status will be “abolished” and replaced by a “modern, simpler and fairer” system from April 2025. The status is enjoyed by people who live in the UK but who have certain overseas links – often determined by whether their father was born abroad. The status means they pay UK tax on money earned here, but not on their worldwide income. After four years, those coming to the UK will pay the same tax as other UK residents.

PW: This was billed in advance, but is still politically extraordinary. Downing Street has either defended non-domiciled tax status – as enjoyed by Sunak’s wife – or tried to not talk about it. Now it is being abolished, if replaced with a new system that still gives some benefits. The key aim here is to spike Labour’s guns – this was one of Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves’s few outlined fiscal plans. Did I mention an election was coming?

Property tax

Hunt says the government will reduce the higher rate of property capital gains tax from 28% to 24%.

He also announces the abolition of stamp duty relief for those buying more than one dwelling.

PW: For all Hunt’s insistence this will bring in more overall revenue, reducing a tax aimed at higher-rate earners can be very easily painted by Labour as a break for richer people – and richer second-home owners.

Holiday lets

Hunt confirms plans to scrap the furnished holiday lets regime. The initiative gives tax reliefs on properties being rented out to holidaymakers and make renting out to holidaymakers more profitable than to long-term tenants. The move is expected to raise £300m a year for the Treasury.

PW: Another relatively minor tax change which taps into what appears to be genuine public sentiment – in this case, worries about how the rapid growth of the Airbnb economy risks hollowing out some holiday-dominated communities.

Hunt confirms widely expected plans for a “vaping products levy” to be paid on imports by manufacturers, specifically on the liquid in vapes. It will be introduced in October 2026.

The move is an attempt to discourage children from buying the products. It is expected to raise £500m by 2028/29. A one-off increase in tobacco duty is also announced.

Alcohol and fuel duty

Alcohol duty was due to rise by 3% from August but Hunt said it will be frozen until February 2025, benefiting 38,000 pubs across the UK. The government is “backing the great British pub”, Hunt says.

Hunt said he would freeze fuel duty at its current level for another year, as expected. The levy should rise in line with inflation but this has not happened since 2011.

A 5p cut to fuel duty, which was introduced in 2022 and is due to run out this month, has been extended.

PW: An increasingly common aspect of recent budgets has been chancellors extending supposedly “temporary” freezes, allowing them to repeat the same good news at every budget or statement. Hence alcohol and fuel duties are not changed. The latter is announced with slightly half-hearted “plan for drivers” rhetoric by the chancellor, plus the now-mandatory shout-out for the Sun.

Hunt announces a new “British Isa”, giving investors a £5,000 extra tax-free allowance to “encourage more people to invest in UK assets”.

Hunt says a new British Savings Bond will launched in April, delivered by the state-owned National Savings and Investments. It will offer a guaranteed rate, fixed for three years.

PW: One of the many elements of this budget briefed in advance, this will be welcomed, but thus far is another fairly minor tweak, politically speaking.

Windfall tax and energy

Hunt extends the windfall tax on the profits of North Sea oil and gas companies by a year, raising an expected £1.5bn. It was introduced in May 2022 after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine sent gas prices soaring, feeding through to producers’ profits. It was due to end in March 2028, but will now conclude in 2029.

The chancellor confirms the government will spend £160m on two nuclear sites. The first, on the island of Anglesey or Ynys Môn, is the Wylfa facility in north Wales. It is owned by Japan’s Hitachi. The government hopes to find a partner to develop a nuclear power station there. The Oldbury site in South Gloucestershire is also part of the agreement.

He allocates £120m for green industries to develop technologies including offshore windfarms and carbon capture and storage projects.

PW: What Hunt describes as “clean energy” is focused on nuclear, which some might quibble with. But with the Conservatives badly split on where – or if – to build onshore wind and solar farms, nuclear is about as safe as it gets, politically.

The government will spend £26.4m on the National Theatre to upgrade its stages.

Independent films with a budget of less than £15m will receive a new tax credit.

The Treasury will also provide eligible film studios in England with 40% relief on their gross business rates until 2034.

PW: Such announcements are, in fiscal terms, small change down the back of the sofa, but do resonate. Plus, as Hunt noted, the creative industries are disproportionately important to the UK economy. This section also allowed the chancellor to make a lightly limp joke about Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, “who seems to fancy her thespian skills when it comes to acting like a Tory”.

Other measures

Hunt says he plans to allow full expensing to apply to leased assets. Full expensing allows businesses to offset investment in items such as new factory machinery and IT equipment against tax.

He adds that the VAT registration threshold will be increased from £85,000 to £90,000 from the start of April, saying it would help “tens of thousands of businesses”.

He confirms that the government plans to sell a chunk of shares in NatWest bank in the summer. The bank was bailed out during the financial crisis to the tune of £45.5bn to help save the UK’s financial system from collapse. The state’s remaining one-third share in the bank is now worth about £7bn. “I want to create opportunities for a new generation of retail investors to engage with public markets,” Hunt says.

Hunt announces that AstraZeneca – the pharmaceutical company behind the Covid vaccine developed by Oxford University – plans to invest £650m in the UK to expand its footprint on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and fund the building of a vaccine manufacturing hub in Speke in Liverpool.

The chancellor makes a one-off adjustment air passenger duty (APD) on non-economy flights. APD on premium economy and business class flights will be hiked by more than 10% next year. It will add £66 in tax to a London-New York flight in business class, up to £647, from April 2025. APD on a premium economy seat will rise £22 to £216 on a transatlantic flight, or from £26 to £28 on a short-haul flight.

PW: It is notable that Hunt announces both a tax break for smaller businesses, and efforts to address what he calls “historic under investment” – a concession that many voters believe the UK’s infrastructure is somewhat crumbling. There is even a slightly retro shout-out for “levelling up”.

English Summary

Short Speech on Cleanliness in English for Students and children

Respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends.

Good morning to all of you.

Today I am going to speak on the topic- Cleanliness.

Cleanliness is an important aspect of healthy living. It is a state of being clean which means free from dirt and germs. The habit of maintaining cleanliness is as important as consuming food, drinking water and breathing.

This habit should be encouraged right from childhood as cleanliness is considered next to godliness which means maintaining cleanliness is just like devoting yourself to God.

It is considered so important because it helps us prevent many kinds of diseases. When we keep ourselves clean and also our surroundings clean, we protect ourselves from various kinds of viruses and bad bacterias that can make us fall ill.

It not only prevents various diseases but also keeps us and our surroundings look beautiful. A clean place always looks very attractive and neat.

There are ways to maintain cleanliness around us. It is not very difficult. A small effort by all of us can keep us and our surroundings clean. For personal cleanliness, we should take bath daily, wash our hands before and after a meal, brush our teeth twice a day, comb our hair daily, etc.

To keep our surroundings clean, we should always throw garbage in the dust bin, clean our surroundings with the help of a mop and broom, always pick up in case there is a drop on the floor while eating, etc.

Sometimes we focus only on personal hygiene or cleanliness of the house but not of our surroundings. For example, throwing garbage on the road after cleaning the house. This is not the right thing to do.

Maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings is as important as cleanliness in our house. So we should never throw a toffee wrapper or an empty can on the road. In the case of no dust bin nearby, we should wait to dispose of it properly.

It is very easy to create a mess but it takes a lot of effort to clean. We should always take small steps towards maintaining cleanliness and avoid actions that spoil the beauty around us.
