In today’s Canva tutorial , we will talk about how to make your school presentation stand out. These tips can be implemented and modified to make a presentation for your own topic for class. Not only will you have wonderful pieces you can use for school but you can have a bit more fun doing homework!

Discover tips to make your school presentation stand out

In a crowd of presentations, how do you make yours stand out? There are many boring pre-made templates that don’t use enough pictures out there, and if you’re in a time crunch there’s no problem using these. This tutorial wants to challenge you to create a stunning presentation from scratch rather than copying and pasting into a carbon-copied template. Here you will learn a few tricks to turning your boring school presentation to an eye-catching work of art.

1. Have a stunning opener

First impressions are important and that counts for school presentations too! Make that first opening slide memorable but remember to keep it relevant to your topic. Remember, keep the aesthetic for the rest of your presentation, because the opening slide sets the tone for the rest of the presentation.

Make sure not to overcrowd your opening slide with pictures, graphics, or words. In this case, less is more. You can even make one image frame your text for an effortless but professional look. Just make sure to have all the important information on there.

2. Limit the colors in your presentation

Use no more than five colors for your whole presentation. Remember simplicity is key. It is hard to know which words or information is important if every word is a different color! Use color sparingly, consistently and to highlight important information. Use your colors as accents, not the main stars of your presentation.

3. Have consistent slides

Build a template you can follow throughout your presentation. Or chose any of Canva's existing templates from the toolbar on the left. Then adapt the colors to make it uniquely your own by clicking on each object in the template, clicking on the color box near the top left of your slide window, and changing the color.

Add visual interest by using a second font. Pair different fonts and styles for body copy and titles in your slides and stick with it with all of your slides. In terms of fonts, also try to stick to a sans-serif font, as it will be easier for audience members to read. Pick a similar background and use the same colors throughout your presentation and make them indicate similar things throughout your presentation to create a design language with your audience and solidify information rapidly.

4. Add stunning photos

Have you noticed the most boring presentations lack any visual elements and pictures? Although some may think it distracting from the information at hand, visuals can help solidify information in your presentation. A lot of people learn in different ways, so by keeping it entertaining and visually appealing for those visual learners, you can broaden the interest of your audience. In fact, visuals are processed 60,000 times faster in the brain than text!

To add photos or graphics in Canva, use the toolbar on the left to click on Elements. Then search for the item you're hoping to add. Next click on Photos, Graphics or Videos to see relevant results for each type of content. Once you find the image you like, just click on it and drag it onto your slide. You can also upload your own images by clicking Upload in the left-hand toolbar.

5. Write short, direct bullet points

Presentations are all about information so we want the message to be clear. Remember, less means more! Like in the title page, only put the most important information on your slides and make them short and easy to understand sentences. Visuals can help where words can fail.

6. Add some finishing flourish

You can add simple animations and transitions between slides to really make your presentation come to life! To add animations simply click on the objects on your slide you want to animate, and then click Animate above your working window. You'll have to option to chose how those objects move onto the slide, such as from the left side, from the bottom, and so on. You can also use animation to make items get larger or smaller (select under Scale), and really pop out by tumbling (select under Exaggerate), and more.

7. Don’t forget to research!

Now that you have a visually stunning presentation, hit it out of the ball park by having accurate facts fill in those short bullet points. What your teacher will care about is facts, making it look pretty is the icing on the cake. Research your topic online, reference your textbook, and ask your teacher for more information if needed!

If you need some persuasive PowerPoint presentation ideas, you've come to the right place. Here are some tips for doing so.

When creating a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation for a school project, it is important that you stand out from the crowd. You can make your presentation creative in many ways; it shouldn't be dull, dry, and limited.

The creative style of your presentation is also greatly influenced by the topic you will be discussing. If you are creating a presentation for a school assignment, it is always better to go the creative route.

Your presentation should stick with your audience. Below are some tips on how to do that in Microsoft PowerPoint.

1. Narrow Down Your Talking Points

Before even creating the presentation, the first thing you need to do is to figure out your talking points. Outline your speech, and pay special attention to the structure of it all. The main message you are trying to convey should be obvious from the title to your first slide.

Start by putting all your ideas down on paper. You can change this as you start building your PowerPoint presentation, but it is always good to create an outline and a rough draft of it all.

2. Finding the Right Template

Once you have outlined your topic and you know what you want to create, it is time to find an appropriate template. There are tons of great PowerPoint templates that you can choose from, but not all of them will work with your topic.

It would be best if you keep your topic in mind when choosing the template. For example, if your topic is about something serious, choosing a template that is a bit basic and formal is better than picking a template that is colorful and cheerful-looking.

Use Design Elements Instead of Photos

One of the biggest mistakes students tend to make is that they stock too many photos on top of each other. It is better to leave your presentation simple and use the creative templates to your advantage instead.

Having a photo collage or a stock image background tends to be everyone’s go-to when creating a PowerPoint presentation. However, having a solid-colored background with shapes, icons, and colored text will make it look a lot more professional.

Of course, this does not mean that you should not have any photos at all. Adding a photo to emphasize your point is important, but keep the photos to a minimum.

This also brings us back to the topic of your presentation. In some instances, adding a lot of photos to a presentation is needed.

However, even in those situations, you should try not to overcrowd one slide with tons of pictures. Instead, separate the pictures into different slides and go through them while simultaneously talking about them.

Really good campus with facilities that allow the students to have a holistic education. The Rosinka Campus provides students with a more unique PE curriculum giving students the opportunity to learn sports like rock climbing, ice-skating, swimming, kayaking, along with more traditional sports like athletics, ball sports, and racket sports.

Rosinka has an excellent leaderships team and highly qualified teachers. Lessons are presented in a very attractive way that keeps children strongly envolved. The atmosphere is welcoming and with a personal approach to students. The school presents a wide range of sport and cultural activitites to attend. The school has high expectations of the students and high levels of acchievement. Our children (Dutch, 10-13 y.o.) are studying for 4 years at the school and love it.

Great school! Myself and both my younger sisters went to/ go to ISM and I wouldn’t have wanted us to be anywhere else! The teachers were amazing and very educated and I don’t think I would be getting a PhD from one of the best universities in the UK without their experience and support.

Cillian Murphy's old school 'thrilled' by Oscar win

The headmaster at Oscar winner Cillian Murphy’s former school has spoken of his pride at the actor’s history-making achievement.

Murphy, 47, was named best leading actor for his acclaimed portrayal of theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer on Sunday.

The Cork native’s win for Oppenheimer makes him the first Irish-born winner of the best actor award.

Presentation Brothers College principal David Barry said the school was “so proud” of the star’s global success.

“Presentation Brothers College are delighted for Cillian and his family on his success in winning the Oscar,” he told the PA news agency.

“Hopefully when he’s back in Cork he might be able to visit us.”

A portrait, made by senior art students, of Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the actor’s character in Peaky Blinders, hangs in a school corridor.

His presence is still felt at the school and the actor never forgets where he has come from, the principal said.

“He’s always about for us really in our thoughts as the kids walk through the corridors every day.

“Your roots are really important and Cillian has worked abroad so often but really never forgets his roots and visits his parents regularly.

“Because he has such a busy schedule getting back to Ireland and Cork brings him back to who he is really,” he said.

His Oscar win will serve as further inspiration to the current crop of pupils, the headmaster said.

“The harder you work, the luckier you get. So if you put in the efforts you will get the rewards eventually, no matter what field you’re in," Mr Barry added.

The actor's former primary school had also wished their past pupil well, hanging a banner outside the scholl in the run up to the oscars.

Murphy’s historic win was lauded by the President of Ireland’s official X account.

Michael D Higgins account said it was “a wonderful achievement” that was “so appropriately dedicated to peacemakers everywhere”.

Ireland’s deputy premier Micheál Martin said that Murphy gave an “outstanding” performance in a film “that will stand the test of time”, while Irish culture minster Catherine Martin said the win was “no more than he deserves”.

It is, she added, a “a fitting recognition” of Murphy’s “immense” talent.

Screen Ireland chief executive Desiree Finnegan, said Murphy had long delivered “outstanding performances” in Irish films, including Small Things Like These, Disco Pigs and The Wind that Shakes the Barley.

She called his performance in Oppenheimer “extraordinary” and that it deserved the “worldwide recognition and critical acclaim”.

James Crumbley, father of Ethan Crumbley, found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in son's school shooting

PONTIAC, Mich. — A jury on Thursday convicted James Crumbley of involuntary manslaughter in connection with his teenage son’s deadly school shooting in 2021, in step with his wife, who was found guilty last month on the same charge.

The jury's decision after about 10 hours of deliberations caps a landmark case that for the first time in the U.S. held the parents of a mass school shooter criminally responsible. James and Jennifer Crumbley’s son, Ethan, who was 15 when he opened fire at Oxford High School in suburban Detroit, pleaded guilty as an adult and was sentenced in December to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

"These were egregious facts in this case. These parents could have prevented this tragedy. It was foreseeable," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said after the verdict.

"With just the smallest of efforts, they could have prevented this shooting and saved these kids’ lives," she said.

James Crumbley, 47, faces up to 15 years in prison per the four counts of involuntary manslaughter, each one representing a murdered student. Jennifer Crumbley, 45, will be sentenced in April.

Prosecutors said James Crumbley had bought Ethan a 9 mm Sig Sauer as a gift a day after Thanksgiving, at a difficult time in his son's life when he was struggling emotionally because his best friend had moved away. Crumbley is not accused of knowing about the attack beforehand, which his son had warned about in journal entries.

His attorney, Mariell Lehman, said after the verdict that James Crumbley "did not know that his son could or would harm anyone or that he had obtained the means to do so. James feels terrible about what happened that day to Hana St. Juliana, Madisyn Baldwin, Tate Myre, Justin Shilling, and the many others affected."

 Parents of the four children killed spoke after the guilty verdict and said no other parent should have to go through what they have.

“We can put people on the moon, we can build skyscrapers, huge monuments like the Hoover Dam — and we can’t keep our kids safe in schools,” Steve St. Juliana, the father of Hana, said. “I think people just need to wake up and take action. Stop accepting the excuses.”

Some of the parents also said the school failed their children, and called for change in leadership.

An attorney for Jennifer Crumbley, Shannon Smith, declined to comment after Thursday's verdict.

“We believe the victims, their families, and the community need and deserve the space and time to begin healing from this tragedy," Smith said.

While the cases against the husband and wife largely mirrored each other — with many of the same witnesses testifying in both trials — prosecutors did not delve as deeply into James Crumbley's social and work life. Testimony took less than a week, and Crumbley did not take the stand in his own defense, like Jennifer Crumbley had.

His actions in the lead-up to and the day of the shooting played a vital role. School staff testified that the Crumbleys were called to Oxford High that morning about a drawing made by their son depicting a gun and a person shot. The parents didn't tell school officials he had access to a weapon and said they couldn’t take him back home that day, saying they had work.

A computer crimes expert testified that James Crumbley had not begun his DoorDash delivery job until after the meeting and that when he started taking orders, he drove by the family's home four times — with the prosecution suggesting he had the opportunity to check on the gun and ensure it was safely secured.

Crumbley later told investigators he hid the 9 mm handgun in an armoire and placed the ammunition underneath jeans in another drawer.

Ethan Crumbley would go on to kill four students: Justin Shilling; Madisyn Baldwin, 17; Tate Myre, 16; and Hana St. Juliana, 14.

During closing arguments Wednesday, McDonald, the prosecutor, said the deaths were "preventable and foreseeable" if Crumbley had done any number of "tragically small efforts," and she attempted to undercut the defense by telling jurors that parents can be responsible gun owners no matter if their child is planning a mass shooting.

“This case is not a statement about guns. It’s not a statement about parental responsibility. It’s not a case about kids doing kid things,” she said.

The majority of jurors in Crumbley's trial are parents and also either own guns, grew up around guns or have family or friends who have them — highlighting how firearm exposure is a familiar facet of this region of Michigan, where hunting is a popular activity.

Defense lawyer Mariell Lehman said in her closing arguments that the prosecution had to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt and that it presented no evidence to show Crumbley knew his son was a danger to the public or that he had access to the gun.

Prosecutors in the mother's case had focused more heavily on Jennifer Crumbley's perceived parenting failures and how she seemed to ignore her son's mental distress while she was preoccupied with her hobbies and an extramarital affair.

During James Crumbley's trial, prosecutors stressed to jurors that although Michigan now has a safe gun storage law that went into effect this year , it was still his legal duty as a parent to prevent his minor child from causing "unreasonable risk of harm to others."

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said after the verdict that the Crumbleys showed "tragic inaction" before the shooting.

“If [your] very first thought when you hear about an active shooter at your child’s school isn’t, ‘Is he OK?’ but to worry if your son is the shooter or to rush home to find out if the gun you irresponsibly left unsecure is still there, then you should’ve done something in advance,” Bouchard said.

McDonald said that the guilty verdict does not bring back the children killed that day, “but it does mark a moment of accountability.”

She called gun violence, which in 2020 became the leading cause of death for children , a crisis in the United States.

“And we will not be able to address it until we start treating it like a public health crisis,” McDonald said. “And yes, access to guns is a critical piece of that. But it’s not the only piece.”
