How to hide (or un-hide) a slide in microsoft powerpoint.

Want to hide certain slides during a presentation but still keep them in the file? Here's how.

Quick Links

Hide and unhide powerpoint slides, show hidden slides during the powerpoint presentation.

You can hide slides in Microsoft PowerPoint so that they're hidden during the presentation but are still a part of the file. You can also show hidden slides during a presentation or unhide them for future presentations. Here's how.

If you give talks, it's very likely that you prepare a PowerPoint for that presentation. Depending on your audience, you may want to hide or unhide certain slides to make the presentation more relevant for that particular group.

To hide slides during a presentation, open PowerPoint and select the slide that you want to hide by clicking it. The slide will have a box around it if it's selected.

Select a slide in PowerPoint

Once it's selected, right-click the slide. In the context menu, choose "Hide Slide."

Hide slide option

The slide will now be hidden while in Presenter View. You can tell that a slide is hidden if the thumbnail is a lighter color than the other slides.

Hidden slide

If you want to unhide the slide, simply right-click the slide and click "Hide Slide" again.

The slide will now appear during the presentation again.

If you've hidden a slide but have decided that you actually want to show it during the presentation, you can do so without ever leaving Presenter View.

During the presentation, right-click anywhere on the current slide. In the context menu that appears, select "See All Slides."

See All Slides option

Once that's selected, all of your slides, including hidden slides, will appear in a row. Hidden slides are grayed out, and the slide number is crossed out. Click the thumbnail of the hidden slide to display it to your audience.

Once you've moved to the next slide, if you want to show the hidden slide again, repeat the above steps.

If you frequently use the same Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, the content is likely to change over time. If the content of a slide is no longer relevant, you can simply delete the slide instead of hiding it.

Slides don't show in Slide Show View

You know you created a slide -- you can see it in the thumbnails in the navigation and slide panes -- but in slide show view, it disappears.

Possible causes and solutions

There are several reasons why this might happen. Courtesy of PowerPoint MVP Sandy Johnson, here they are:

The slide is hidden.

In the animation pane or slide sorter view each slide thumbnail is numbered. If the number is covered with a gray box, then it is hidden. To fix (in all versions of PowerPoint)

  • Right click on the thumbnail (or select all affected thumbnails, then right click)
  • Click Hide Slide on the pop-up menu to remove the checkmark next to it.

Set up Show Settings are causing the problem.

Go to Slide Show | Set up Slide Show . In the Show Slides section, choose All . The other options will cause PowerPoint to display just a range of slides or a custom show.

Slide(s) set at zero second auto transition

If the slide is set to advance automatically after a very short time, PowerPoint won't have enough time to display it at all.

  • In PowerPoint 2003 and previous choose Slide Show|Slide Transition
  • In PowerPoint 2007 choose Animations | Transition To This Slide
  • Set Transition to occur on click or set auto transition to allow enough time for slide to be viewed before it advances to the next slide automatically.

Invisible Monitor Problem.

The slide show might be set up to display on a second monitor. If you don't have a second monitor attached to your computer, the slide show will be very difficult to see.

Go to Slide Show | Set Up Show and choose Show on | Primary Monitor .

  • Play Music During the Slideshow
  • Set up the Slideshow
  • Add Timings to Each Slide
  • Edit Timings on a Slide
  • Create a Video Slideshow
  • Save a Slideshow to a CD or Other Removeable Media

When you're ready to present your PowerPoint slides to others, look no further than PowerPoint's slideshow feature. Use this tool for all kinds of slides, but those containing photos work best for most viewers.

Instructions in this article apply to PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 , PowerPoint 2019, PowerPoint 2016, PowerPoint 2013, PowerPoint 2010, and PowerPoint for Mac.

Before you create slides for your slideshow presentation, decide how long to make the slideshow, how it should flow, and the pictures you’ll use.

  • Length : A slideshow can be as long or as short as you need. The length of the slideshow should be appropriate for the topic and for your audience’s attention span.
  • Outline : It’s always smart to start with an outline; it helps you visualize your slideshow. An outline can be as simple as the list of topics you want to cover.
  • Pictures : Choose photos that are clear and tell a story.

With PowerPoint's Photo Album , select the pictures and PowerPoint creates the basic slideshow. Fill your slides with informative text and harmonizing background music, then turn your collection of slides into a self-running photo slideshow with music that can play as a video or be stored on a CD.

When you’re ready to make a photo slideshow with music, PowerPoint gets you up and running quickly. To get started, select Insert > Photo Album > New Photo Album .

Here’s how to add and format pictures for the slideshow using the Photo Album:

Add pictures

Select File/Disk and select the images you want in the picture slideshow.

Enhance photos

Place a checkmark next to the picture you want to enhance and change the orientation, contrast, and brightness. You’ll see the changes in the Preview window.

Add text boxes

To add a slide for text, select the image in the album list you want the text to follow and select New Text Box .

Rearrange slides

Place a checkmark next to the picture you want to move and select the Move Up or Move Down arrows.

Choose a picture layout

Select the Picture layout down arrow and choose how you want the pictures to appear in the slideshow.

Frame the pictures

Select the Frame shape down arrow and choose a frame style. You’ll see a preview in the Album Layout area. This option will not be selectable if the picture layout Fit to slide is enabled.

Select Create when you’re finished.

Your photo slideshow is created in a new file. Add text to the slides and change the look of each slide.

How to Play Music During the Slideshow

Play music in the background during your slideshow to offer an audio counterpoint to all the visuals. The background music starts automatically with the slideshow and plays during all the slides.

To add background music to your presentation, select Insert > Audio > Audio on My PC , choose a music file, then select OK .

The audio icon appears in the middle of the current slide. To move it, drag it to a different place on the slide. When the audio icon is selected, the Playback tab appears. Select Play in Background and make changes to the audio file . Here are some suggestions.

  • Preview the music : Select Play to hear what the music will sound like during your slideshow.
  • Shorten the duration : Select Trim Audio to remove parts of the beginning and end of the music file.
  • Adjust the volume : Select Volume to make the background music louder or softer.

How to Set up the Slideshow

Once your slides are finished, it’s time to set up the slideshow. Start by deciding whether to show the slideshow in a window or full screen.

To set up the slideshow, select Slide Show > Set Up Slide Show and choose one of the following:

  • Browsed by an individual (window) : Run the slideshow automatically and inside a window. This option works best when you save the slideshow to a CD.
  • Browsed at a kiosk (full screen) : Run the slideshow automatically and at full-screen size. This option works best when you convert the slideshow to a video.

Select OK when you’re finished.

How to Add Timings to Each Slide in the Slideshow

Now it’s time to decide how long each slide will appear in the slideshow. To begin, select Slide Show > Rehearse Timings . The slideshow displays in full screen with a Recording toolbar and a timer.

While timing your presentation, use the Recording toolbar to advance through the presentation.

Select Next (arrow pointing to the right) to go to the next slide when the desired timing has been reached.

Select Pause to start and stop the timing.

Select Repeat to restart recording the time for the selected slide.

When you’re finished and have set the time for the last slide, close the Recording toolbar.

Select Yes to keep the recorded slide timings.

How to Edit Timings on a Slide

If you need to increase or decrease the time for your slideshow, change how long slides appear during the slideshow.

To change the timing for a slide:

Select View > Slide Sorter .

Select Transitions .

Select a slide.

In the Advance Slide After text box, enter how long the slide should appear in the slideshow before proceeding to the next slide, then press Enter .

The new timing applies to the slide.

How to Create a PowerPoint Video Slideshow

The easiest way to distribute and play your slideshow is in video format. This way, anyone can view your slideshow no matter what computer or device they use.

To convert a slideshow into a video:

Save the file.

Select File > Export .

Select Create a Video .

To force a smaller file size, select the Full HD drop-down list and choose a lower quality.

Select Create Video .

Select the destination folder and give the video a descriptive file name.

Select Save . It may take a few minutes to process the file and create the video.

How to Save a Slideshow to a CD or Other Removeable Media

To create a presentation that can be watched on any computer and can be stored on a CD or other removable media:

Select Package Presentation for CD > Package for CD .

Type a name for the CD.

Select Copy to Folder or Copy to CD and follow the on-screen directions.

When you’re finished, select Close .

Same problem. Just started suddenly last Friday, 9/29/23. Previously worked just fine, now suddenly I cannot get the file go into slideshow mode, no matter what I do. Proper displays are chosen, including setting the primary monitor. But nothing.

Why Don't Items in My PowerPoint Master Show Up in Presentation?

James t wood.

Man sitting lounge chair reading a book.jpg

Microsoft Office PowerPoint uses a Slide Master that can apply changes across an entire presentation -- until it doesn't. Sometimes changes applied to the Slide Master don't affect the rest of the presentation. Learn to apply your changes to all the slides in the presentation, if desired.

  • Reapplying the Master Layout

1 Reapplying the Master Layout

The Slide Master view is designed so that you can set up all the design elements you want before you start your presentation. But in real life, design often happens on the fly: people tend to decide they want things to look a certain way after they've already started creating slides. So once you've changed the Slide Master any new slides will look the way you want. The problem is you need to apply those changes to all the existing slides too. Once you're back in the Normal view editing the slides of your presentation, you can click on a slide in the pane on the left and then choose the Layout that contains the changes you made to the Slide Master. So, if you changed the Title and Content layout, click a slide with that layout, select the Layout button on the Home tab, and then choose the Title and Content layout. The Slide Master changes appear. You can speed up the process by selecting multiple slides at the same time and reapplying the layouts.

Troubleshoot footers in PowerPoint

If you've added footer information (such as slide numbers or the date) to your slides but they still don't appear, the likely problem is that footers are currently turned off in Slide Master view. Read on for instructions on how to turn on footers in Slide Master view.

Turn on the display of footers for a specific layout

Select the slide you're having trouble with.

On the View tab, select Slide Master .

In Slide Master view, the layout for your slide appears in the main pane.

On the Slide Master tab, in the Master Layout group, select the Footers box:

On the Slide Master tab, in the Master Layout group, select the Footers box.

In the main pane, immediately you should be able to see the footer placeholders on the slide layout. If that doesn't happen, skip to the next procedure, Turn on the display of footers for a slide master .

Turn on the display of footers for a slide master

In step 3 above, if PowerPoint doesn't accept your selection of the Footer box, it means that footers are turned off in the hierarchical parent of the current layout—which is known as the slide master . In that case, we first need to adjust that setting, then repeat the procedure above.

In the procedure above, you attempted to edit a slide layout . The following picture shows the left-hand thumbnail pane in Slide Master view. It depicts two layouts that have a parent slide master:

powerpoint slide not showing in presentation

The slide master and its child slide layouts are part of the theme that is applied to your presentation.

If you have multiple themes applied to different parts of your presentation, then in Slide Master view there will be a slide master corresponding to each theme.

As the picture shows, layouts are indented under the slide master. For the next procedure, you have to locate and select the parent slide master of the layout you're attempting to edit.

In the thumbnail pane, select the slide master.

On the Slide Master tab of the toolbar ribbon, select Master Layout .

In the dialog, turn on the Date , Slide number , and Footer options, then select OK .

At this point, all layouts that are subordinate to this slide master have the ability to show footer information. You just have to turn on footers for each layout in turn. Select a layout in the thumbnail pane, then follow the instructions in the first procedure above,  Turn on the display of footers for a specific layout , beginning with step 2.

PowerPoint presentations in a window not full screen

PowerPoint presentations don’t have to be full-screen, that’s the default and normal way to show a deck, but a window option is also there.  A windowed presentation lets you display the slides in other software like virtual cameras or desktop capture.

Go to Slide Show | Setup Slide show and choose ‘Browsed by an individual (window)’.

powerpoint slide not showing in presentation

The options are the same in PowerPoint for Windows or Mac.

Start the slide show (Slide Show | From Beginning or From Current Slide) as usual except now it appears in a resizable window.

powerpoint slide not showing in presentation

Windowed presentation controls

There are back and forward slide buttons on the bottom status bar (see above).

Click on the icon between those two buttons to see some more options.

powerpoint slide not showing in presentation

The same options appear if you right-click in the presentation while windowed.

  • Next / Previous
  • Go to Slide – choose a slide from the flyout list.
  • Go to Section – for decks in Sections
  • Zoom In / Zoom Out
  • Print Preview and Print
  • Edit Slides
  • Full Screen

It would be really nice if Presenter View could appear in a second window – but alas it’s not an option. That would let the use control the presentation properly while the slides appear in another window (which could be visible via a third-party tool).

Switching Full Screen and window slide show

Starting from a windowed presentation means you can switch between Full Screen and the window presentation without showing the entire PowerPoint menus etc.  It’s a little neater and more professional.

Go to Full Screen from the menu option.

In Full Screen mode press Escape to return to the windowed presentation.

Why use a windowed PowerPoint presentation?

Having the slides in a resizable window gives you options not available when the deck is taking up the whole screen.

Perhaps you’re demonstrating some software?  Have the presentation in one window and the software in another? See A better Side-by-Side document view for Windows and Mac to see how to use windows controls in Windows or Split View on a Mac.

A windowed presentation can be selected as an input option for a virtual camera or other service which lets you choose to display a selected running program.  Full screen PowerPoint can’t be selected but the same slide can be chosen from a windowed presentation.

Troubleshooting PowerPoint Slide Numbering: How to fix common issues

  • April 16, 2021

powerpoint slide not showing in presentation

Looking for how to add slide numbers in PowerPoint? Trying to work out what to do when PowerPoint slide number not showing? This help guide steps through troubleshooting options to fix scenarios of slide numbers not showing in PowerPoint. This includes when slide numbers do not appear on one or more PowerPoint slides in your presentation.

This troubleshooting guide covers the following:

  • PowerPoint Slide numbering placeholder in the Slide Master layout needs to be reset
  • The Slide numbering placeholder needs to be reset and your PowerPoint presentation has multiple Slide Master layouts
  • Your PowerPoint presentation uses the Title Slide layout for content slides as well as the Title slide and does not display slide numbers
  • Slide numbering on one or more PowerPoint slides is obscured by pictures or shapes

Note that this guide has been written for users of PPT Productivity add-in for PowerPoint , but we have included alternative steps to also assist anyone working in PowerPoint without PPT Productivity.

PPT Productivity created a Manage Slide Numbering feature , so you can customize how slide numbers appear on your page. You can add slide totals or a slide count to each slide and add wording, e.g. Slide 1 of 20 .

Error message when adding slide numbers and totals

Trying to add slide numbers and Slide Totals to your slides using the PPT Productivity Manage Slide Number feature, but encounter an error message?

Here is an example of the error message you likely encountered.

Or have you added Slide Numbers to your slide master but they are still not showing on your slides? You might need to reset the display of Slide Numbers in the Slide Master.

How to fix placeholders on Slide Master layout in PowerPoint?

Wondering why slide number is not showing in PowerPoint? The first thing to check is your PowerPoint Slide Master.  The slide numbering placeholder needs to be activated on your Slide Master layout.  Any previous updates to your presentation or template may have ‘deactivated’ the placeholder for one or more of the layouts in your presentation.

To do this:

  • From the View tab of the PowerPoint ribbon, select Slide Master.
  • From the thumbnail view, select the PowerPoint Master Slide Layout.  The Master Slide Layout is the slide at the top of the selection (it's also called the Parent layout).  The other layouts beneath this Master Slide layout are called Child layouts in PowerPoint.  It’s important to update the slide numbering placeholder on the Master layout, because the Child layouts inherit the update (unless you separately change a specific child layout).  Note that your PowerPoint presentation should ideally have only one Master slide (Parent) parent layout and multiple child layouts linked to it.

Image shows PowerPoint Slide Master view

  • While you have the Master Slide Layout selected, click on Master Layout from the top PowerPoint ribbon in Slide Master view.

Image shows PowerPoint Slide Master view with Master Layout selected on the Ribbon

  • The PowerPoint Master layout menu will now appear.

Screenshot of PowerPoint Master Layout dialogue box

  • If the slide number check box is unchecked, check this box now. You can also check the footer check box at this point if required. Then click OK.

Screenshot of PowerPoint Master Layout dialogue box

  • The slide number and footer placeholder should now appear at the bottom of your Master slide.

  • Next, review the rest of the child slide layouts to ensure that the slide number placeholder has been activated. To do this, navigate through each slide in thumbnail view to find any slides where the slide number placeholder is missing.

  • If you discover a Slide Layout which does not show the placeholder, uncheck and then recheck the ‘Footer’ check box found on the top ribbon in Slide Master view.

  • Unchecking then rechecking the Footer check box is a ‘reactivation’.  It will refresh the Slide Layout.  The Slide Number placeholder will now appear on the bottom of the Slide Layout.

  • Continue reviewing the layouts to make sure that all Slide Layouts display the footer and slide number placeholders.  If you find any additional Slide layouts which are missing the placeholders, simply repeat step 8 to correct them.
  • Now, try applying the PPT Productivity slide numbering feature again. You should no longer encounter the error message.

If you are still unable to see your slide numbers, it could be caused by several different issues. Below are some ways to troubleshoot.

How to manage PowerPoint Presentations with multiple Slide Master Layouts?

A slide layout is applied to every slide in a PowerPoint presentation. If slides have been copied from another presentation or different themes have been applied, extra layouts (or even masters) may have been added to your presentation.  These can impact the slide numbering placeholder which also impacts your ability to use the PPT Productivity slide numbering feature.  We recommend that you work with a single Master (Parent) slide layout in your presentation.

To ensure the desired layouts are applied to your slides:

  • In Slide Sorter View, Ctrl-click each slide that should be using the same layout (i.e., the ones that have the slide number placeholders).
  • From the ‘Layout’ drop down on the PPT Productivity ribbon select the desired layout (if you don't have PPT Productivity addin installed you can also find the layout menu on the Home tab in the Slides group).

  • All slides selected will have the selected slide layout applied.
  • Continue with any other slides that require the slide layout to be updated.

What if a PowerPoint presentation is using Title Slide layout for one or more content slides?

Users often turn off the slide numbering placeholder on the Title Slide layout, to remove the slide number on the title page.  However if you use the Title Slide layout for other slides in the content of your presentation, this slide will also not display the slide number.  To solve this, you can either update your preferences to include numbering on title slides, or you can change the slide layout used for the content slide(s) currently using the Title layout.

There are 2 ways to find out whether slide numbering has been disabled on Title Slide Layouts -skip to Option 2 if you do not have PPT Productivity addin for PowerPoint.

Option One: Using the Slide Number and Slide Totals PPT Productivity feature

  • From the PPT Productivity tab or the PowerPoint Insert tab on the ribbon, select the ‘Slide number and Slide Total’ icon.

screenshot showing where to find Slide number and Slide Total button on PPT Productivity ribbon in PowerPoint

  • The PPT Productivity ‘Slide Numbers and Totals’ dialogue box will open.

screenshot showing PPT Productivity Slide Number and Totals dialogue box

  • If ‘Show on Title Slides’ is unchecked, slide numbering will not appear on any slides with the Slide Title layout applied. To have slide number appear on these slides, check the box and click ‘Apply All’
  • Slide numbering with totals will now appear, in your chosen format to your Title Slides.

Option Two: Using the Slide Number feature from the Insert tab

An alternate method to ensure slide numbering is applied to Title Slide layouts is from the PowerPoint Insert Tab. Note that if you don't have PPT Productivity this is the option you should use. You will see less options for Slide numbering in the popup box below because standard PowerPoint does not have the option to add Slide Totals, nor to Skip numbering on hidden slides.

  • From the Insert tab on the ribbon, select ‘Slide Number’.

PowerPoint Insert Tab on the Ribbon with Slide Number feature highlighted

  • The Header and Footer dialogue box will open. If the ‘Don’t show on title slide’ box is checked, the slide number will not appear on any slide with the Slide Title Layout applied.

PowerPoint Header and Footer dialogue box

  • If you want to use the Title slide layout on content slides and display slide numbering, uncheck ‘Don’t show on title slide’.  The slide numbering will now appear on all slides with Title Slide layout applied.

Alternative solution: Update your slide layout for content slides using the Title slide layout

The alternative way to solve this is to update the content slide(s) in the body of your presentation that use the Title slide layout.  To change the slide layout for the content slides currently using the Title layout slide:

  • Navigate to the relevant slide in your presentation.
  • From the thumbnail view beside the slide, hover over the relevant slide thumbnail, right click your mouse and select layout.  The current layout will be ‘Title Slide’.
  • Select an alternate layout given the content of your slides – for example a Title Slide Only or Blank Slide layout may be the most appropriate.
  • Review your slide once you have made this change to correct any formatting.

Changing your slide layout should solve your missing numbering for this and any other content slides that originally used the Title Slide layout.  If the numbering is still not appearing for the updated slides, please refer back to the Fixing placeholders on the Slide Master layout section above.

Troubleshooting - is a picture or shape covering the PowerPoint slide number placeholder?

Another possible cause for slide numbers not displaying correctly is where a picture or shape is covering the slide number placeholder.  To solve this you can resize, move or reorder (send to back) the picture or shape.

  • To send a picture or shape to the back of a selection of objects, click the picture or shape to select it.
  • From the PPT Productivity Format toolbar, select send to back or use your assigned keyboard shortcut to move the shape/image behind the slide number placeholder.

Image of the PPT Productivity Format Toolbar with the Send to Back feature highlighted

  • Repeat on any slides where the slide number is hidden.

Top 8 Fixes for PowerPoint Not Displaying Pictures on Windows

Microsoft PowerPoint can be frustrating when it fails to display pictures in your presentation on your Windows 10 or 11 PC. You may see errors like ‘This picture can’t be displayed’ along with a red X sign in place of the image. Whether the issue only affects specific slides or an entire presentation, you can fix that error with little troubleshooting and save yourself from embarrassment.

Top Fixes for PowerPoint Not Displaying Pictures on Windows

There can be several reasons for such an error, like corrupted image files , misconfigured settings, or a corrupt PowerPoint installation. In this guide, we’ve listed a few effective solutions to make Microsoft PowerPoint load images again.

1. Remove and Add the Picture Again

Microsoft PowerPoint may fail to load an image if it is not added completely to the presentation file. Additionally, if you have added a picture link and the image file is moved to a different location before you saved the presentation, PowerPoint will not be able to find it. You can add the image(s) again to fix such issues.

Step 1: Open Microsoft PowerPoint on your PC. Right-click on the image that is not loading and select Cut.

Cut an Image in PowerPoint

Step 2: Switch to the Insert tab, click on Pictures, and select This Device.

Insert Pictures in PowerPoint 1

Step 3: Locate and select the picture you want to add from your computer and click the Insert button.

Insert Pictures From Your PC in PowerPoint

Alternatively, you can also select the Stock Images or Online Pictures option in to add images from online sources.

Insert Pictures Stock or Online Image in PowerPoint

Browse through various categories or use the search bar to locate the images you want to add, select them, and click the Insert button at the bottom.

2. Save the File in a Different Location

If Microsoft PowerPoint is unable to load images even after you reinsert them, try saving the file in a different location and see if that helps. Open your PowerPoint presentation and press F12 to bring up the Save As dialog box. Select a different location for your file and click Save.

Save As Dialog in PowerPoint

Close the PowerPoint presentation and reopen it to check if the pictures load properly.

3. Disable Image Compression

Microsoft PowerPoint allows you to compress images in your presentation to reduce the overall file size. While this makes it easier to share presentations with others via email, it can also end up breaking some of the images in your presentation.

To avoid this, you need to prevent PowerPoint from compressing images in your file by following the steps below.

Step 1: Open Microsoft PowerPoint and click the File menu at the top-left corner.

File Menu in PowerPoint

Step 2: Click on Options in the bottom left corner.

PowerPoint Options

Step 3: Select the Advanced tab from the left sidebar. Scroll down to the ‘Image Size and Quality’ section and tick the ‘Do not compress images in file’ option. Then, click OK.

4. Allow PowerPoint to Download Online Content

Do you face problems with the stock or online images in PowerPoint? That could happen if you have prevented PowerPoint from downloading online content, causing the Stock Images and Online Pictures options to appear grayed out. Here’s how to fix that.

Step 2: Select Options from the left pane.

Step 3: In the PowerPoint Options window, click the General tab. Then, click the Privacy Settings button in the right pane.

Privacy Settings in PowerPoint

Step 4: Tick the checkboxes that read ‘Turn on experiences that download online content’ and ‘Turn on all connected experiences.’ Then, click OK.

Turn On Connected Experiences in PowerPoint

Restart PowerPoint to apply the above changes and check if the issue occurs after that.

5. Turn Off Hardware Acceleration

When you enable hardware acceleration in PowerPoint, it offloads some of the graphical processing tasks from your CPU to the GPU to achieve better performance. However, if this feature malfunctions, PowerPoint may have trouble loading images. You can try disabling this feature to see if that helps.

Step 1: Open PowerPoint and click the File menu at the top-left corner.

Step 2: Click on Options at the bottom-left corner.

Step 3: In the Advanced tab, clear the checkbox that reads ‘Disable Slide Show hardware graphics acceleration.’ Then, click OK.

Disable Hardware Acceleration in PowerPoint

6. Repair the Problematic File

If Microsoft PowerPoint does not display pictures only in a specific presentation, the file may be corrupt. You can try using the built-in file repair option in PowerPoint to fix the presentation.

Step 1: Open PowerPoint and press the Control + O keyboard shortcut. In the Open tab, click the Browse option.

Browse PowerPoint File

Step 2: Locate and select your PowerPoint file. Then, click the downward arrow next to Open to select Open and Repair.

Repair PPT File

After PowerPoint repairs the presentation, the images should load fine.

7. Make Sure PowerPoint is Updated

Using an outdated version of Microsoft PowerPoint can also lead to such problems. This can happen if you have disabled automatic updates for Office apps on your Windows PC . Here’s how you can check for updates manually in PowerPoint.

Step 2: Navigate to the Account tab. Click Update Options and select Update Now.

Update PowerPoint

8. Run the Office Repair Tool

If PowerPoint does not display pictures even after you update it, there may be a problem with its installation on your Windows PC. Fortunately, Microsoft includes an Office repair tool that can automatically fix such issues with Microsoft PowerPoint . Here’s how to run it.

Step 1: Press the Windows + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run dialog box. Type appwiz.cpl in the box and press Enter.

Open Programs and Features on Windows

Step 2: In the Programs and Features window, select the Microsoft Office product on the list and click the Change button at the top.

Repair MS Office Suite

Step 3: Select the Quick Repair option and click Repair.

Quick Repair Office

If the issue remains, repeat the above steps and select the Online Repair option to conduct a thorough repair operation.

Enjoy Picture-Perfect Presentations

Eye-catching images are essential for making your PowerPoint presentations stand out. Additionally, they can also be useful for conveying information at a glance. How to make a Shape Transparent in Google Slides (The Easiest Way)

Google Slides provide a vast canvas for creativity, enabling you to explore and seamlessly implement innovative and visually stunning slides. However, when incorporating shapes or images on top of text or other elements, it may appear sharp and distract from the overall slide. To address this, you can make these shapes transparent in Google Slides. In this article, we will delve into the process of achieving transparency to maintain a harmonious and engaging visual experience in your slides.

How to make a transparent shape?(step-by-step)

If you wish to add text or make adjustments for a more creative and presentable slide, consider creating a transparent shape. Here's how to step-by-step make a shape transparent in google slides:

Step 1: Open your Google Slides presentation where you wish to add a transparent shape.

Step 2: Go to "Insert" on the toolbar, allowing you to import the desired image or shape effortlessly.

Step 3: Opt for shapes by navigating to the "Shapes" section, offering a variety of options, including shapes, arrows, callouts, and equation figures.

Master Layout does not apply the changes made / Power Point

I am creating a PowerPoint presentation using the master layout. On each master layout, I have different sizes and fonts that I need to adjust to a specific layout.

When I create the layout with my elements and text, some of the layouts work just fine when I want to use them (with the right font, color, and size).

However, some of them don't work; the size and color of the font change from the master layout, and I have to edit them individually or use the "list level" buttons to make them work.

I don't understand what I am doing wrong since some of the layouts work just fine.

I inserted two text placeholders in the master layout with different colors and text sizes. When I want to use the layout and the text appears as it does in the master layout, everything works perfectly. However, when I tried the same on the other master layouts, inserting placeholders, the color and size of the text are different, and I have to adjust them manually."

Hi Sara Martin2 ,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the Master Layout in PowerPoint. It sounds like the changes you're making to the Master Layout aren't being applied consistently to all of your slides.

One thing to check is whether the slides that aren't working properly are based on a different Master Layout than the ones that are working correctly. If that's the case, you may need to make changes to the other Master Layouts as well.

Another thing to check is whether the placeholders on the Master Layout are set up correctly. Make sure that the font size and color are set to the values you want, and that the placeholders are set up to resize automatically to fit the text.

If neither of those solutions work, you may need to manually adjust the font size and color on the individual slides. You can do this by selecting the text box and using the formatting options in the Home tab of the ribbon.

Let’s troubleshoot this issue and find a solution:

Broken Inheritance :

The symptoms you’re encountering (where some layouts work fine while others don’t) often indicate  broken inheritance .

Here are steps to address this:

Create a New Slide : Try creating a new slide from the layout that isn’t working as expected. Does the new slide inherit the formatting correctly?

Theme Fonts : When creating a new presentation, follow best practices:

Create font and color themes.

Use these theme fonts to format the slide master (the large slide at the top of the thumbnails).

Theme fonts include labels like  (Body)  or  (Headings)  after the font name.

Check Slide Master Text :

On the slide master, select each piece of text.

Ensure the font name includes  (Body)  or  (Headings)  after it.

Layout Inheritance :

Delete any layout placeholders that aren’t inheriting the bullets.

Replace them with new placeholders.

Verify that the layout-slide inheritance is intact.

Reset Button :

The Reset button should work, but if it isn’t in your case:

Create new slides from the layouts.

Copy your text over from the old slides using  Paste Special > Unformatted text  to avoid contaminating the new slides with old formatting.

Repair Office Application :

Right-click the  Start button  (lower-left corner) and select  Apps and Features  from the pop-up menu.

Find the  Microsoft Office product  you want to repair and select  Modify .

Note: This will repair the entire Office suite even if you want to repair just one application like  Word  or  Excel .

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair process.

Restart your computer after the repair 1 . Please Choose Quick Repair.

Remember, PowerPoint can sometimes behave mysteriously, but following these steps should help resolve the formatting inconsistencies. If you need further assistance, feel free to share the sample file, and I’ll be happy to take a look!

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can do to assist you.
