Have a look at the following videos for insights on how to implement the Core in classrooms and homes across America. We also have lesson plans, assessments and worksheets to help you in your preparation.

In this first video, we will join Sarah as she explains the Common Core State Standards and offers insights on how to implement the Core in classrooms. We will learn how teachers and students can shift their math classrooms to promote mathematical reasoning.

She emphasized on the need to focus on fewer concepts, coherence for mastery and an approach with more rigor. Focus means less rote memorization and more deep procedural knowledge and conceptual understanding. Rigor means having procedural fluency and conceptual understanding.

She talks about the six shifts in teaching Mathematics: Focus, Coherence, Fluency, Deep Understanding, Application, and Dual Intensity. Classrooms should be creative, engaged and even noisy. Families can be involved in applying the mathematical concepts.

In this video Sarah explains what is the Common Core and where did it come from. How to read the Common Core State Standards with confidence and perspective.

She explains that “Common doesn’t mean the same and the Standards are not the curriculum”. She also shows how to read the grade level standards for mathematics and for reading and writing.

TRAPS & PITFALLS

The angle of depression is always a great setback for many students. The angle of elevation is so easy and then almost in a careless nature they often wrongly assign the angle of depression. If they do not create the horizontal line (the horizon line) they place the angle in the wrong location.

The other issue in this objective is the process of translating the descriptions into mathematical relationships. I spend a lot of time drawing diagrams and linking words to pictures.

PAST CONNECTIONS

The past connection is to G.SRT.6 where we discovered that trigonometry was tightly connected to similarity and that it allows us to link angles sizes to side proportions. In this objective we use this knowledge to solve 'real world' problems.

FUTURE CONNECTIONS

Trigonometry becomes a powerful tool to solve many problems past this point of mathematics.

MY REFLECTIONS (over line l )

I love this area... I must admit I love drawing the diagrams for the trigonometry problems. I spend quite a bit of time discussing the specific vocabulary that comes from these types of 'real world' problems. I build the process by first having them try to diagram the problem without even worrying about how to solve it. Usually if they can draw the diagram then they can solve it.

About This Course

Welcome to the Math Medic Geometry course! Here you will find a ready-to-be-taught lesson for every day of the school year, along with expert tips and questioning techniques to help the lesson be successful. Each lesson is designed to be taught in an Experience First, Formalize Later (EFFL) approach, in which students work in small groups on an engaging activity before the teacher formalizes the learning.

Our Geometry course develops reasoning, justification, and proof skills through an in-depth study of shapes and their properties, rigid transformations and congruence, and the relationship between similarity and right triangle trigonometry. Rich opportunities for problem solving culminate in the unit on surface area and volume. This course was created using the Common Core State Standards as a guide. The standards taught in each Math Medic Geometry lesson can be found here . Additionally, we've chosen to include a unit on Statistics and Probability that can be used as a stand-alone unit at any time during high school course work. The unit overviews and learning targets for the Math Medic Geometry course can be found here .

Math Expressions Grade 3 Building Fluency with 0s – 10s Answer Key Unit 2 Lesson 8 Question 1. Maria created artwork by placing all of her seashells in 4 rows on a wall. In each row, she arranged 8 seashells. How many seashells did Maria collect in all? Answer: Number of seashells Maria collect in all = 32.

Explanation: Number of rows on a wall Maria created artwork by placing all of her seashells = 4. Number of seashells she arranged in each row = 8. Number of seashells Maria collect in all = Number of rows on a wall Maria created artwork by placing all of her seashells × Number of seashells she arranged in each row = 4 × 8 = 32.

Math Expressions Grade 3 Unit 2 Lesson 8 Answer Key Question 2. Arturo collected 18 seashells. He wants to divide the seashells evenly among his 3 best friends. How many seashells will each friend receive? Answer: Number of seashells each friend receive = 9.

Explanation: Number of seashells Arturo collected = 18. Number of best friends he wants to divide the seashells evenly = 3. Number of seashells each friend receive = Number of seashells Arturo collected ÷ Number of best friends he wants to divide the seashells evenly = 18 ÷ 3 = 9.
