Google Classroom Tips

*Once you are logged in to Clever, go to Google Classroom. Look for the green icon. This is where teachers will post assignments.

• Follow the teacher’s instructions for completing assignments.
• Some assignments may take you out of Google Classroom to perform a task. REMEMBER, you must always return to Google Classroom and click the submit, turn in, or mark as done button.
• To check assignments in Google Classroom, always check the “Classwork” tab. On this page, you can click “View Assignments” at the top for a summary list of all assignments.

Turning Assignments in with KAMI

The teacher may require that some assignments be completed with Kami. Here are some tips for successfully completing Kami assignments:

• If it is the first time using Kami, you will be asked a few questions. You will select that you are a students and you are using this for K-12 school. You will want to connect with Google Drive.
• There are a variety of editing tools on the left side of the page. You will most often use the text tool (T in a box).
• Once you have completed your assignment, click the turn in button. A drop-down menu will appear. Click Turn In again. It will then take you back to Google Classroom where you will also click the turn in button.

**WHAT TO DO IF YOUR TURN IN BUTTON IS NOT THERE**

1. If you open your assignment with Kami and you DO NOT see the turn in button, look in the far right of the web address bar for a (+) sign. Click on the (+) and you should be prompted to install Kami. 

2. Click on the (+) and a window will pop up asking if you would like to install the app. CLICK ON “INSTALL”

3. A new window will open up. Click on your (or your child’s) initials in the upper right, the click on settings.

4. Scroll nearly all the way down and you will see a list of options. Most of the boxes are check except the “automatically load files in Kami” option. Check that box.

 5. Next, close all windows and log out of the Chromebook.

6. Log back in and go to your assignment as usual. You should see your turn in button in Kami.

How to Use Kami with Google Classroom

Kami is a PDF and document annotating tool that is a must for any digital classroom. And now, with the pandemic, almost all the classes are digital as we have adapted to this new normal.

Although Kami is useful for anyone who needs a simple yet effective tool for annotating documents, its best usage has to be for a classroom. Using Kami, you can share annotated PDFs with notes/ insights you want your students to see. But the best thing is, you can even share virtual worksheets with your students that they can directly write upon and submit to you to grade. And its integration with Google Classroom makes it infinitely better and that much easier to use in the class.

Important Note: To use the Google Classroom extension in Kami, you need a Pro account with a Teacher or School & District plan. Kami’s Google Classroom integration is not available with the free or even the ‘Pro’ & ‘Work’ Plans for Individuals for logical reasons.

Using Google Classroom with Kami

Now you can either use Google Classroom from Kami’s web app, or you can have a direct integration of Kami in Google Classroom that adds buttons to create an assignment with Kami for teachers and submit a Kami assignment for students right into the Google Classroom’s interface.

Teachers can then grade the assignments students have submitted from within the Google Classroom. It means that everything will happen from within Google Classroom itself, and you won’t even need to open another website.

Getting Kami in Google Classroom

For classes that are already using Google Classroom, this option is the more convenient choice as students and teachers are already comfortable with the interface.

Note: The integration of Google Classroom in Kami allows teachers to create a Google Classroom assignment from Kami, but the rest of the usage like tracking students’ progress, grading assignments, etc. has to be done from Google Classroom only. Also, students cannot see any worksheets you’ve assigned from Kami; it’s only available in Google Classroom.

To use Kami in Google Classroom, you need to install the Kami Chrome extension. The extension should be installed on the teachers as well as all the students’ systems for everyone to able to use it. For schools, admins can deploy the extension to all student accounts from the Google Admin panel to ensure that all students have it.

Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for ‘Kami’ to add the extension to your browser. You can also click the button down below to quickly go to the download page.

Click on the ‘Add to Chrome’ button to install the extension on your browser.

A confirmation dialog box will appear. Click on ‘Add Extension’ and Kami would appear on your address bar with the rest of your extensions.

Once you install the extension, the Kami integration would automatically appear on your Google Classroom account.

Using Kami In Google Classroom (As a Teacher)

Teachers can use Kami to create assignments or worksheets for students that students can annotate. You can even annotate the assignments yourself with any special instructions before you share it with them. The Google Classroom and Kami integration also allows you to grade the assignments as you would real pen-and-paper assignments: you can mark the assignments, and add comments!

Creating an Assignment

To assign worksheets or assignments using Kami in Google Classroom, log in to your Google Classroom account, and open the class you want to create the assignment for. Then, go to the ‘Classwork’ tab.

Click on the ‘Create’ button and select ‘Kami Assignment’ from the menu.

The window to create the assignment will open. Select the assignment file from either Google Drive or your computer.

Give the assignment a title and add instructions for students (optional). Then, select the class and students the assignment is for. You can also specify marks, due date, etc. like you can with any other Google Classroom assignment.

Now, if this is a worksheet that every student needs to work separately on, make sure that you select the option ‘Make a copy for each student’.

If it’s something you want all the students to collaborate on, then select the option ‘Students share one file’.

If it’s the first time the students will be using Kami, check the ‘Send Instructions with Kami’ option. Students will receive detailed instructions on how to complete the assignment with Kami.

You can also restrict the Kami tools that students can have access to for that particular assignment if you want them to have access to only required and limited tools. Click on the ‘Restrict Features’ button on the assignment window.

A list of all Kami features will appear. Uncheck the ones you want to restrict access to and click ‘Ok’. Your students won’t be able to use those tools for this assignment.

Finally, click the ‘Assign’ button.

If you haven’t authorized Kami access to your Google Drive before now, it will ask for permission to access it. Click on ‘Authorize Google Drive’.

The assignment will be created, and the students will be able to see it in their Google Classroom Stream and Classwork automatically. You can also share the link to the assignment separately if you want.

Tracking Progress and Grading the Assignments

Once you’ve given the assignment, you can track the status of students’ work from Google Classroom as well. You can see how many students have turned in the assignment. And once they have turned it in, you can also grade the assignments. You can also open the assignments before the students have turned them in to see if they need any help and provide any in form of comments.

To track the assignment progress, open it in Google Classroom and go to the ‘Student Work’ tab.

Here, you’ll be able to see all the statistics related to the assignment, like how many students have to complete the assignment in total and how many have turned it in under ‘All Students’.

Individual copies of each student’s assignment will appear, and you’ll be able to see the status of the assignment, i.e., whether or not they have turned it in. Click on the assignment to open it.

You can see the student’s annotations and comments on the assignment. If you only want to grade it with final marks, just enter the marks on the right side and click the ‘Return’ button.

You can also enter any comments from the Google Classroom viewer itself. But if you want to annotate the assignment like mark the wrong or right answers, click the box next to ‘Grade with Kami’ to select it.

Kami’s editor will open right in Google Classroom. Annotate the assignment however you want. Then, enter the final grade on the right and click the ‘Return’ button.

A confirmation dialog box will appear. Click on the ‘Return’ option on the dialog box.

The student will be able to see their grade on the returned assignment, as well as any annotations or comments you must’ve made.

Using Kami in Google Classroom (As a Student)

Students can use Kami with Google Classroom to annotate on their worksheets or assignments and submit them after completion. Go to Google Classroom and click on the class you want to view the assignments for.

You can see an announcement post for a new assignment on your Stream. But if there are too many posts, click on the ‘Classwork’ tab.

Then, click on the assignment you want to complete.

Open the file in the assignment. In the preview mode, you’ll see the ‘Open with Kami’ button. Click on it.

The assignment will open in the Kami’s web viewer. You can use all the tools your teacher has allowed for the assignment from the toolbar on the left. Once the assignment is complete, click the ‘Turn In’ button on the toolbar on the upper right corner of the screen.

Note: When you’re still working on the assignment, Kami saves all the changes automatically. So your work won’t be lost even if you close the window. You only have to click the Turn in button once the assignment is complete.

After clicking the Turn in button, if it is your first assignment, Kami would request access to Google Drive. Click the ‘Authorize Google Drive’ button and sign in with your Google account. Then, give Kami access to your account by clicking the ‘Allow’ button.

Your assignment is now submitted and the teacher can grade it and return it you.

You can also unsubmit the assignment if you need to make some changes after turning it in. To unsubmit the assignment, click anywhere on the assignment in Kami’s web viewer. A dialog box will appear stating that to edit the assignment, you need to unsubmit it. Click the ‘Unsubmit’ button.

Once the teacher has graded your assignment, you’ll be able to see your final grade from Google Classroom. Click on ‘View your work’ in the Classwork tab.

All assignments will open. The returned assignment will have your grade next to it. You can also open the assignment to see any more annotations from the teacher.

Kami is a great tool for teaching. And with schools already using a Learning Management System like Google Classroom, the integration of both makes remote teaching as easy. It feels almost as if you were present in the classroom and handing out assignments in person.

Twins' royce lewis begins running bases, moves closer to starting rehab assignment.

WASHINGTON – In a best-case scenario, Royce Lewis might be only a couple of weeks away from rejoining the Twins lineup.

Lewis ran the bases Monday at Target Field. He's already doing all other baseball activities — taking ground balls, hitting on the field and hitting in the batting cages — so this is the last hurdle he needs to clear before he begins a rehabilitation assignment.

Head trainer Nick Paparesta said Lewis will continue running the bases throughout the week, and they will simulate game-like scenarios Friday.

"We're getting close to a point with him, I think, where we start heading in the right direction of a rehab assignment," Paparesta said, "but we're not ready to say yet when."

Lewis, sidelined since Opening Day because of a partially torn quad in his right leg, passed all his running tests last week when he worked on changing directions and ramping up his sprints to nearly full speed.

"We just have to see how he does on the bases," Paparesta said. "Friday will be a big tell for us because we're going to do a lot of stuff with him where we're going to try to put in as many game-scenario situations as we can."

Lewis has admitted his frustration during the rehab process because of the lack of a firm timeline, and he says his quad feels good.

"We have to go by the science a little bit on that and explain that to him," Paparesta said. "You just take the time to explain to him every time what we're doing, why we're doing it, and just make sure that his group of people around him understand that as well. I think ultimately you just get to a relationship where Royce comes in every day, tells us he's good, and we're excited to hear that, and that's good, but he knows there are things that we need [to do]. I think it's just a good give and take a little bit on that side of things."

However, finishing an assignment takes time and serious effort. Many students tend to get overwhelmed and procrastinate until the last minute, leading to subpar work that does not meet the reader’s expectations.

Tigers’ shortstop prospect begins rehab assignment

Detroit Tigers shortstop Eddys Leonard began a rehab assignment with Class A Lakeland on Tuesday night as he begins to work his way back to the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.

Leonard has been on the injured list since straining his left oblique while swinging at a pitch on April 7.

Leonard is the designated hitter for the Flying Tigers on Tuesday night.

In an alternative universe, Leonard might be in the big leagues right now. He had a strong spring training, making him a potential candidate for a call-up when Andy Ibanez went on the IL on April 9.

But with both Leonard and fellow shortstop Ryan Kreidler injured in Toledo, the Tigers turned to outfielder Wenceel Perez, whose hot bat has made him an everyday player in Detroit.

Leonard, 23, was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers at least year’s trade deadline (shortly after the Eduardo Rodriguez deal fell through ) and immediately made a positive impression in Toledo.

Shortstop is his natural position but has played all over the diamond and a utility role is likely his quickest path to Detroit.

“I asked him, of all the positions that he’s played, what’s his favorite? He said, ‘Lineup,’” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said back in February. “And he meant it. I thought that was a pretty good answer.”

Kreidler, who is considered the organization’s best defensive shortstop in the minor leagues, fractured his right finger after being hit by a pitch on April 4. He is not far behind Leonard in his return.

In other injury news, the Double-A Erie Seawolves announced that outfielder TJ Hopkins had been placed on the season-ending injury list.

The Tigers claimed Hopkins off waivers from the Giants this spring , then outrighted him to the minor leagues . Hopkins was injured in an outfield collision on May 7.

Hopkins, 27, was selected by the Cincinnati Reds out of the University of South Carolina in the ninth round in 2019. He had a strong season with Triple-A Louisville in 2023 but went 7-for-41 with 17 strikeouts during a brief look with the Reds at the big-league level.

The Reds traded him to the Giants last December to free up a roster spot. The Giants waived him in February , which is when the Tigers picked him up.

When Jonah Williams joined the Arizona Cardinals in NFL free agency for a two-year, $30 million contract on March 13, the former Alabama All-American didn’t know which offensive-tackle spot he would fill for his new team.

On Monday, Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon settled that – at least for now.

“Jonah is going to go right, Paris (Johnson) is going to go left, and then we’ll see how that looks,” Gannon said as Arizona opened Phase 3 of its offseason program. “… I think it’s going to be good. Paris, obviously, playing both, Jonah playing both, we’ll start there and see how it goes. Through the first three weeks on the grass, that’s what they’ve been doing. That’s what they’re both comfortable with right now, so we’ll see how it looks.

“But I do have the veto power to switch them back.”

The 11th selection of the 2019 NFL Draft, Williams started at left tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals in the first 47 games of his career. But after the  Bengals signed  four-time Pro Bowler Orlando Brown Jr. in free agency last offseason, they put Brown at left tackle and shifted Williams to right tackle.

The sixth pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Johnson started every game of his rookie season at right tackle for the Cardinals.

Arizona’s left tackle was D.J. Humphries, but on the same day they signed Williams, the Cardinals released Humphries after eight seasons. Humphries had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during Arizona’s next-to-last game of the season on Dec. 31 and was due $22.9 million  in 2024. His release reduced the Cardinals’ salary-cap obligations by  $15.9 million  for this season.

Johnson played left tackle as a senior at Ohio State after playing right guard as a junior. Williams worked as Alabama’s right tackle as a freshman in 2016, then played left tackle in 2017 and 2018 for the Crimson Tide.

Williams and Johnson played every offensive snap at right tackle for their teams in 2024.

Arizona right guard Will Hernandez said it would be “ easy ” to develop the rapport with Williams that he had with Johnson.

“These guys aren’t bringing in just regular Joes,” Hernandez said . “Jonah’s a dog, and I really like him. Same thing as with Paris. We’re clicking quick. He’s also a vet, and he knows what it is and how it’s supposed to look and what you’re supposed to do. I really like it. I like his mindset. And I think we’re going to do big things on the right side again.”

Commonly called OTAs (for Organized Team Activities), Phase 3 practices allow NFL teams to expand their offseason on-the-field work to include 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills matching the offense and defense. Contact is still not allowed, but group drills can proceed at more than a walkthrough pace now.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians have parted ways with struggling outfielder Ramón Laureano, designating the seven-year veteran for assignment ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Mets at Progressive Field.

In a related move, Cleveland recalled outfielder Johnathan Rodriguez from Triple-A Columbus to take Laureano’s spot on the active roster.

Rodriguez, the club’s No. 16 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, was added to the 40-man roster in November after his best year as a professional in 2023. A third-round pick in the 2017 draft, Rodriguez was an Eastern League All-Star and the Guardians Hitting Prospect of the Year in 2023 according to MLB.com.

He split last season between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus, batting .289 with 18 home runs, 55 RBI and an .876 OPS for the RubberDucks. After moving to the Clippers in late July, Rodriguez hit .280 with 11 home runs, 33 RBI and a .936 OPS.

Manager Stephen Vogt said Rodriguez has hit the ball well since opening with Columbus in March.

“He’s been driving the ball all over the ballpark, been playing pretty good defense and really starting to mature and develop as a player overall,” Vogt said. “Really excited to have JRod here and see what he can bring.”

In 156 at-bats for Columbus this year, Rodriguez has a .276 average with seven home runs, 28 RBI and an .838 OPS.

Laureano, 29, joined Cleveland in August 2023 after he was released by Oakland. In 41 games for Cleveland last year, he hit .243 with three home runs, 14 RBI and 41 strikeouts. His .342 on-base percentage after joining the roster Aug. 7 was fourth-best on the club. Laureano reached base safely in 24 of his final 32 games to finish year and posted an .808 OPS after Aug. 24.

The Guardians avoided arbitration with Laureano and signed him to a $5.15 million contract for the 2024 campaign. But the 29-year-old right handed hitter struggled to get on track in the club’s first 47 games. Laureano hit .143 with one home run and four RBI to go along with 32 strikeouts in 83 plate appearances across 31 games.

Vogt said it was a disappointing day with having to release Laureano, a teammate of the Guardians skipper when he was in Oakland.

“It was just time, on both sides,” Vogt said. “Not a fun day or decision, but we wish Ramón nothing but the best and we’re excited that JRod’s here.”

Rodriguez, meanwhile, is tied for fourth in the organization in home runs, RBI and total bases. He has appeared in 26 games in right field and 12 in left while batting .346 with runners in scoring position.

Vogt said the Guardians believe Rodriguez is ready to see what he can do against major league pitching.

“He’s worked really hard and done some things that we asked of him coming out of spring,” Vogt said. “Andy Tracy (Triple-A manager) does such a good job down there of helping those guys develop into major leaguers. We couldn’t be more thankful for the work that Trace and all the guys that have put their hands on ‘em down there in Columbus.”
