Music Thesis Statements
Music has been shown to have a profound effect on the human brain. It can alter our mood, relieve stress, and even boost our immune system. Music therapy is an increasingly popular treatment for a variety of conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, autism, and depression.
While the exact mechanisms by which music exerts its effects on the brain are not fully understood, there is no doubt that it has a powerful impact. In some cases, music may even be more effective than medication. If you are struggling with a mental health issue, consider giving music therapy a try.
Music stimulates brain development and productive function. In humans, music is an instinctive desire to create and enjoy, it is not forgotten by diseases such as Parkinson’s or dementia, and it has been shown to assist kids with ADHD and ADD focus. Charles Darwin, together with other experts, believes that music was used to aid human evolution and bonding over time.
There are different types of music for different purposes, such as: for relaxation, concentration, to increase productivity or creativity, to improve sleep quality, to boost energy and mood, to reduce stress levels and anxiety. Music can also be used as a form of therapy to help treat various conditions such as: Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, depression, stroke recovery and more.
A study done at the University of Southern California found that when people with Alzheimer’s disease listened to personalized music, it activated regions of their brain that were otherwise inactive. The music helped the patients reconnect with lost memories and improved their verbal skills.
In another study done at Stanford University School of Medicine, it was found that music can help reduce stress hormones and inflammation in the body. The study was done on rats, but the findings can be translated to humans as well.
So, what is it about music that has such a powerful effect on the brain and body?
Music affects different areas of the brain, which in turn affects our emotions, behavior and physical state. When we listen to music, our brains release dopamine, which is a feel-good chemical that makes us happy and motivated. Dopamine also helps to improve memory, focus and concentration.
In addition to releasing dopamine, music also activates the autonomic nervous system, which controls things like heart rate and blood pressure. This is why music can have such a profound effect on our physical state – it can make us feel more relaxed or energized, depending on the type of music we’re listening to.
Music is a language that people can use to better communicate emotions, sentiments, thoughts, and motivation than words can. It has almost the same effect as our natural language; it seems to be our native tongue. There are many instances in this essay where music’s impact on our mental processes cannot be denied or overlooked. It is written into our DNA to be affected by music, powered on its emotional energy, and to stimulate our brains in order for us to acquire knowledge and enhance natural mental operations.
Studies have found that music:
– Aids in focus and concentration
– Reduces stress and anxiety
– Helps with memory recall
– Encourages creativity
– Increases productivity
– And even promotes healing.
Music therapy is an ever growing field which uses music as a form of treatment for physical, emotional, mental, and social needs. This type of therapy has been shown to be helpful for those suffering from:
– Alzheimer’s disease and dementia
– chronic pain
– depression
– heart disease
– posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
There is no denying the power of music. It is an integral part of our lives, capable of affecting us on a physical, mental, and emotional level. It has the ability to improve our focus and concentration, reduce stress and anxiety, help with memory recall, encourage creativity, increase productivity, and promote healing. With all of these benefits, it is clear that music is a powerful tool that should not be underestimated.
Music has long been a part of our family’s history, and we’ve employed it as a means of communication before there was even language. Darwin believed that humans first utilized music to attract mates because a peacock flaunts its feathers. Dean Falk of the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Ellen Dissanayake of the University of Washington at Seattle think that music was used to calm babies in addition.
The act of making music activates many different areas of the brain. The auditory cortex is responsible for processing sound, and the motor cortex controls movement. But music also engages the parts of the brain that control emotion, memory, and even social interaction.
Because it engages so many areas of the brain, music has a unique ability to affect our emotions. Studies have shown that music can lower anxiety levels and blood pressure, and it can also help to reduce symptoms of depression. Music therapy is now being used to treat a wide range of mental and physical health conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, autism, and even cancer.
So there you have it, the power of music is undeniable! It has been part of our history since the beginning, and it continues to have a profound impact on us today. Whether you’re using it to relax, or you’re using it to treat a health condition, there’s no doubt that music can have a real and lasting effect on our lives.
The term “motheresing” refers to this natural process, which is exactly what it sounds like. Just as contemporary moms perform lullabies for their children, primordial humans sang quiet songs to calm them. The method by which mothers motherese are similar in all societies: a softly sung song with a higher than usual tone and tempo. These professionals believe that grown-ups began creating music for their own pleasure after the fundamental elements were established and understood.
In other words, music is older than language. While the date of the first musical performance is lost to history, we do know that music has been an integral part of human culture for tens of thousands of years. The power of music is far-reaching and undeniable. It has the ability to affect our emotions, physiology, and even our behavior.
Numerous studies have shown that music can have a positive effect on the human brain and body. For example, music can:
– Lower blood pressure
– Slow heart rate
– Decrease levels of stress hormones
– Increase production of feel-good chemicals in the brain
– Boost immunity
– Improve sleep quality
– Enhance cognitive functioning and memory
In addition, music therapy is an evidence-based clinical use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music therapy is an established mental health profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages.

How to Describe Music in Writing
You might think that writing about music is like dancing about architecture. Well, it is not an easy task, but we know how to cope with it.
Follow these tips while writing:
- Make a comparison. Explain which characteristics of a piece remind you or are identical to those of another one. It’s better to avoid comparing music from different composers in this case. Instead, evaluate and analyze two musical pieces from the same composer.
- Describe the melody and dynamics. You may want to use musical terms to show your knowledge and proficiency. Define the genre and what kind of instruments and tones are used.
- Explain how it makes you feel. You can use basic human emotions to describe the feelings of a listener. For example, it can be anger, tenderness, irritation, excitement, or nostalgia.
- Use metaphorical language. You may try using your imagination to create analogies. Be careful not to make your metaphors overcomplicated, as it may confuse the readers.
Essays about Music: Descriptive Words
Do you want your essay on music to be interesting and expressive? Then you may want to use descriptive vocabulary. Here are some of the terms that you can use in your essay to make it sound more professional:
- Tempo is the “speed” of music. There are fixed expressions to define tempo—for example, largo, moderate, or presto. You can also describe how fast the music feels.
- Timbre is the term that evaluates the “color” of music. Even if two instruments play the same note of the same volume, the sound is still different. This is how you can notice the color of the tone. For example, gentle, clear, heavy, or warm can be the adjectives to describe timbre.
- Dynamics define the volume levels of music. The volume can be the same all the time, for example loud or soft. If the volume of music changes, you can use such expressions as “gradually gets louder” “or suddenly becomes soft.”
- Harmony characterizes how all the notes and chords sound together. The sequence of chords—chord progression—defines how satisfying the melody is for the listener. For example, if the transitions are smooth, you can use such words as “relaxed” or “warm.”

Korean Pop Music and Youth Identity Essay
Introduction, analysis of the topic, analysis of the above thesis statement, works cited.
Music plays a significant role in every mainstream society. Many people associate themselves with various genres of music. Different music types are characterized by unique sub-cultural movements or values. Korean pop (K-pop) is a powerful genre that supports the values of many youths who want to be part of the wider global subculture. This essay begins by describing the targeted topic. The paper also discusses the group identity associated with K-pop music. The essay also uses powerful examples to describe how the identity of many Korean youths is associated with K-pop music.
Throughout the 1990s, many Korean youths wanted to develop their values. Such youths formulated their tastes and values. The targeted music for this essay is Korean popular (K-pop) music. Many Korean youths have embraced this kind of music because it portrays their positions in society. This group has been “using K-pop music as a sign of attachment with the outside world” (Jung 4). Many youths in the world are sharing similar values. Such youths engage in different activities that support the welfare of their friends and colleagues. They also oppose most of the values and traditional practices embraced by their parents. For example, many Korean parents have been cynical and unhappy with modernism (Jung 4). They have been encouraging their children to focus on different Korean dances and practices. However, such youths have been looking for a new identity. They have found this solution in K-pop music.
K-pop music presents new values and practices for these individuals. Social activism is a common practice associated with K-pop music. Many youths participate in different socio-cultural activities, “such as volunteering, fund-raising, and donations to charity” (Jung 17). According to such youths, K-pop music is a sign of liberation from traditional cultural practices. Many global youths are coming together in order to support new technological ideas. They are also addressing various malpractices such as racism and prejudice. Such misbehaviors are embraced by many parents. The youths have been searching for new identities in a world characterized by prejudice and bigotry. The internet encourages more youths across the globe to exchange their views.
K-pop music is embraced by many Koreans. However, K-pop is “characterized by different aspects of pop music such as beats, instruments, and cultural practices” (Jung 8). This kind of music also covers different subgenres such as metal, R&B, hip-hop, rock, and dance-pop. The integration of “different foreign elements and musical instruments have become common in the K-pop music industry” (Jung 11). These foreign elements and instruments portray the appreciation of various cultural practices. Many musicians and fans have established new networks with different individuals across the globe. This fact explains why K-pop has attracted many fans.
This kind of music presents positive values to many people in society. For instance, K-pop music brings many youths together. These youths analyze and address most of the challenges affecting their lives. They also come together in order to challenge most of the discourses in their societies. This effort “has led to different social actions” (Hernandez, 59).
The concept of cyber-vigilantism has emerged in order to deal with certain problems associated with globalization. Throughout the 2000s, many Korean youths interacted with their counterparts in different parts of the world. They formed a unique global subculture that ignored the practices and expectations of their parents. K-pop music has promoted the establishment of a hybrid culture. The connection between teen culture and K-pop music reveals many issues in different parts of the world. These youths embrace most of the values supported by other groups in the world. Such youths have detached themselves from their parent’s ideas. The individuals have managed “to form new identities” (Hernandez, 64).
K-pop music has made it easier for many Korean youths to negotiate their values in mainstream society. The youths have formulated their tastes and ideas. They have also redefined their positions in society. They have ignored most of the practices and concepts embraced by their parents. They have been looking forward to creating a new youth subculture that supports the best practices in the world. Some valuable practices have emerged because of this K-pop music. Some of these practices include “fan activism and cyber-vigilantism” (Jung 16). These practices are aimed at addressing most of the challenges affecting many individuals in society. The youths have been promoting various practices in order to formulate the best public opinions. Modern technologies have made K-pop music a powerful tool that supports the needs of many Korean youths.
Each subculture has its own ideas and concepts. Korean pop music has become a powerful genre that connects many youths to their counterparts in different parts of the world. K-pop portrays the identities of these Korean youths. These individuals embrace new values and virtues in order to help those in need. They have created a powerful movement that can transform the world. They have also been supporting positive activities that can fulfill the needs of many people in the world.

Poulitsidis, George
“The globalization of pop music in 2019: An analysis of the Anglo-American, Spanish, and South Korean music markets.”
Publication.
The aim of this thesis is twofold. First, is to expand on the current literature by examining the implications that streaming services have brought in the globalization of pop music. Second, is to examine the applicability of the explanatory determinants in this growing digital market, as it is believed that technological advancements could potentially diminish the importance of certain explanatory determinants, such as cultural centrality, cultural proximity, and physical distance. Since streaming consumption accounts for more than half of the overall music consumption worldwide, this is done by analyzing the annual top 100 pop music charts that incorporate both online and offline consumption for the markets of the U.S., the U.K., Spain and South Korea for 2019. Notably, during the analysis further attention is given to the prominence of language and record labels. Overall, the results show that there are substantial differences between the Western markets and the market of South Korea. Generally, South Korea was had most domestically oriented chart in the sample, while U.S. was the most successful origin country. Surprisingly, the international success of K-pop seems to be limited, while Latin music songs and artists were found in all four countries. Furthermore, while the analysis shows that the explanatory determinants, and especially the destination effects, have become less important, the charts still seem to reflect the preexisting offline power relationships of the industry. Particularly, the presence of majors was significant in all Western markets, while South Korean charts mostly consisted of domestic labels. All things considered, the findings of this thesis contradict the notion of one global market and instead suggest the conceptualization of multiple centralities in similar future studies.

Combining global, media, and cultural studies, this book analyzes the success of Hallyu, or the "Korean Wave” in the West, both at a macro and micro level, as an alternative pop culture globalization. This research investigates the capitalist ecosystem (formed by producers, institutions and the state), the soft power of Hallyu, and the reception among young people, using France as a case study, and placing it within the broader framework of the 'consumption of difference.' Seen by French fans as a challenge to Western pop culture, Hallyu constitutes a material of choice for understanding the cosmopolitan apprenticeships linked to the consumption of cultural goods, and the use of these resources to build youth’s biographical trajectories. The book will be relevant to researchers, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students in sociology, cultural studies, global studies, consumption and youth studies. This book gives fresh insights into how transnational flows of East Asian media culture have been organized by various social actors and industries, generated alternative media globalization, engendered cross-border dialogues, and fostered a cosmopolitan outlook. It is essential reading for anyone interested in the study of the “Korean Wave,” cultural globalization and mediated dialogue.” —Koichi Iwabuchi, Professor of Media and Cultural Studies, Monash University, Australia. “This is an exceptional work about the "Korean Wave" (Hallyu) and multi-polar globalization of culture. While providing the context surrounding the emergence, promotion, and global diffusion of Hallyu, the authors also address it theoretically, tackling such emerging concepts as aesthetic capitalism, sweet power, and the theory of cosmopolitan elective affinities. A must-read book for understanding the past, present, and future of Hallyu!” —Wonho Jang, Professor of Urban Sociology, University of Seoul, South Korea Vincenzo Cicchelli is Associate Professor at Université de Paris and Research Fellow at Centre Population et Développement (Université de Paris / IRD), France. Sylvie Octobre is Researcher at Département des études, de la prospective et des statistiques, French Ministry of Culture, and Research Fellow at Centre Max Weber, France. This article analyzes discourse around pop stars Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj as fragrance spokeswomen. It mobilizes the term “post-feminist entrepreneurialism” to describe business strategies for female recording artists representing themselves as workers and capitalist subjects through the endorsement of mass-produced, hegemonically feminine consumer products that exploit individual brands to engender feelings of proximity and empowerment in consumers. Because such entrepreneurial efforts extend female pop stars’ industrial viability, post-feminist entrepreneurialism is defined through a critical reclamation of “shelf life,” or the timespan that a commodity can be stored before it spoils. This concept is meaningful for female celebrities who embody the passage of time in complex ways and defend themselves against industrial and cultural perceptions of their own disposability. Post-feminist entrepreneurialism describes the contradiction between empowerment and the erasure of agency for such media professionals. Thus “shelf life” metaphorizes the affective registers embedded within the consumption of endorsed products and the demands placed on female pop stars to sell normatively feminine ancillary properties.
In this study, it is evident that professional musicians in Metro Manila inhabit different social environments by which their skills are engaged with. Three factors define their existence in these environments: the repertory, the audience, and place. The repertory is controlled by the producers and the audiences but singers may be free to suggest additional ideas. Through the musicians’ repertory, a culture is formed. This in turn, namely, the show band, the life cycle performance, and the mass media is commodified, which means that economics is a major element in the ways of making music. This study investigates how the aforementioned factors affect each live performance scene. To further explain how these three factors affect them, case studies of various types of professional musicians, as well as producers and mediators were presented through the interviews conducted. Each music scene was studied through participant-observation to explore its overall environment.

This dissertation is an ethnography of intimacy as it is transacted in the political economy and commodity culture of K-pop. I view both K-pop singers and fans as intimate laborers in the affective economy of global K-pop and explore how intimacy is commodified as a product in digital media. Popular music studies have often defined fan activities in the pop music sector as domestic, and thus feminine. However, female K-pop fans’ activities complicate the conventional dichotomies of domestic versus public, and feminine versus masculine, as their relationships with K-pop idols—male singers in particular—are built upon female dominance acquired through digital surveillance and fetishization of idol bodies. These activities have long been deemed abnormal, hysterical, irrational, and unintelligent; however, I see K-pop fans as active consumers who seek intimate solidarity through purchased feelings of pleasure, power, and ascendancy. K-pop fandom is not phenomenal—it is performative.

This thesis contains a comparative study of the most popular female artists or femalefronted groups among tween girls in the years 2006 and 2016. During the tween years girls construct their identities, develop sexual beliefs, and interact with potentially influential media texts. 2, 3 Based on survey data of fifty-seven female students ages twenty to twenty-four in a mid-Atlantic university, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff, and The Black Eyed Peas were remembered as the musical artists they most often listened to in and around the year 2006. An analysis of the music videos, lyrics, and public personas of these artists showed a dichotomy in representations of sexuality with no middle ground; while The Black Eyed Peas displayed a hypersexualized version of female sexuality that objectified women and commodified female sexuality, Montana/Cyrus and Duff expressed little to no sexuality in their music and spoke publicly about wearing purity rings and/or virginity. The 2016 surve...
