How to Set Up a Wireless Presentation

Last Updated: December 7, 2023

wikiHow is a “wiki,” similar to Wikipedia, which means that many of our articles are co-written by multiple authors. To create this article, volunteer authors worked to edit and improve it over time. This article has been viewed 62,272 times. Learn more...

Presentations in the old days only had only one main component: the presenter. Teachers, preachers, and politicians are all presenters, one way or another. This works just fine when the presenter mostly explains common and familiar issues. But when they need to discuss a more complicated subject, visual aids are absolutely necessary. For these presentations, there are three main components: the presenter, the computer, and the multimedia projector. If you as the presenter have to be tied to your computer and projector via a cable, your movements will be restricted and it might infringe upon the flow of your presentation. Using a wireless setup can free up your presentation and help it flow better, so read on to learn how.

Using a wireless presenter

Step 1 Get a wireless remote presenter.

  • Using this clicker allows you to remove away from the computer, walk around the stage, and engage more closely with the audience, without giving up control of the computer.

Step 2 Connect the clicker to your computer.

  • Put in any necessary batteries or other requirements for your clicker.
  • Once the receiver connects to your computer, it will automatically install the necessary driver. Wait until this process finishes before proceeding.

Step 3 Make sure the clicker works properly.

  • Check the user manual for the maximum distance covered by the wireless presenter. When giving the presentation, make sure you do not move beyond that distance.

Wireless Presentation Gateway (WPG)

Step 1 Know when to use a Wireless Presentation Gateway, or WPG.

Setting up a WPG through WiFi Direct

Step 1 Connect the WPG to a power outlet.

Setting up a WPG through a WiFi Network

Step 1 Connect WPG to power outlet.

Expert Q&A

  • Sometimes the projector already comes with an internal WPG. In this case, no VGA cable is needed. Simply turn on the projector and follow the instructions. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • Each brand of WPG and wireless projector has its own software. If your office has different brands of WPG or wireless projectors in every meeting room, you might need to install the software for each of them. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

  • Up to 60ft (18m) of wireless range
  • Simple and easy to use—just plug & play
  • Compatible with most presentation applications including Microsoft®PowerPoint® and Apple Keynote™.
  • Play slideshow
  • Next slide, previous slide buttons

To connect to a USB port: Plug the Presentation Remote USB Receiver into your computer's USB port. You may also use the spare USB port on your keyboard or a USB port on a hub connected to your computer. You do not need to turn off your computer before connecting or disconnecting a USB device.

  • The maximum range is 60 ft (18m) between the receiver and the remote.
  • The receiver has a single light indicator with 2 colors, green and red. For every button press of the presenter, the receiver LED quickly flashes green to indicate that the battery level is good. The LED will flash red on every button press if the battery level is low.
  • The Wireless Presenter should work up to one year with the batteries that come with it. This is based on average usage. To extend battery life when not in use, be sure to turn off the remote by inserting the receiver into the remote.
  • Always replace the batteries in sets, using the same age and brand of batteries.
  • Always dispose of batteries properly.

Philadelphia teacher, student at Deep Roots Charter School go viral for 'veggie dance' battle

WPVI logo

PHILADELPHIA -- Close to 20 million people around the globe have seen the TikTok video of a 2nd grader and his teacher throw down in a "Veggie Dance" dance-off.

We tracked down the stars of the viral video at Deep Roots Charter School in Philadelphia 's Kensington neighborhood and found out firsthand how they won the hearts of the internet.

"It all started to teach Ahmad a lesson," says 2nd grade teacher Regina Laurie. "He kept telling me, 'Oh, Mrs. Laurie, you're old. Look at your (gray) hair.' So I said to myself, 'I'm going to challenge this boy to a dance-off. I'm going to dance rings around this boy and he doesn't even know it yet!'"

Close to 20 million people around the globe have seen the video of a Kensington 2nd grader and his teacher at Deep Roots Charter School throw down in a 'veggie dance' dance off.

And that's exactly what Laurie did.

"I never knew she could dance like that," said 8-year-old Ahmad Dennis. "People were saying, 'They ate that,' and 'she ate you up!"

Viewers especially loved seeing a seasoned woman tear up the dance floor.

One comment read: "She left no crumbs."

"That's hysterical," Laurie says. "I cannot wrap my head around all this."

Laurie has been an educator for more than 30 years, but, no surprise, she also has a bachelor's degree in dance from Temple University.

Here's why she's thrilled this video is viral across the globe.

"I think that I sort of led the way in terms of having other teachers not be afraid to kick off their shoes and literally just show that you're also a person behind that role that we have," Laurie says.

Dean of Students Jigcara Grant posts videos like this all the time to show the love, confidence and support being poured into these kids.

Some viewers called Deep Roots Charter School a "real-life Abbott Elementary."

"When you come to this school, you feel loved," Grant said. "And we'll cheer you on no matter what. We spread all of the joy, positivity because we all need it."

They do this during lunchtime every Friday. They call it "Fun Friday."

"Let children be children," said CEO and Principal Lucilla Perry-Edwards. "A lot of times we push children and we just push books in front of them. Let them be kids."
