  • Use no more than 4-6 bullets per position;
  • Mention only relevant work experience;
  • Describe the tasks you were responsible for and how you managed to exceed expectations;
  • Show you’re able to take charge by choosing action verbs over buzzwords.

Checklist: What to include in your Piano Teacher resume summary:

  • Years of experience;
  • Highlight top 3 skills and proficiencies;
  • One big professional accomplishment you’re most proud of, that you can tie with the aforementioned skills;
  • Use short, direct sentences - but no more than three - to keep the HRs interested.

You’re not going to get hired simply because of a good summary or objective. However, your recruiter can bump you up in front of similarly experienced candidates who didn’t demonstrate such passion and drive.

  • How To Write A Resume Personal Statement (With Examples)

In general, there are three basic formats for your resume :

  • Reverse-chronological resume format ;
  • Functional skills-based resume format ;
  • Combination (or Hybrid) resume format .

Some things to consider when choosing the right format for your Piano Teacher resume include the stage of your career, whether you have all the right skills required for the job or are looking for an industry change, and what field you’re looking to grow in.

The reverse-chronological resume format is the most common one. It lets you describe your most recent job and then move backward. This makes it great for people who have around or less than 10 years of experience and are looking to highlight only their work-related skills and qualities.

If you’re just starting your career journey and reverse-chronological resumes sound too demanding, go for the functional resume format. It’s ideal for showcasing your strengths, personal qualities, skills, education, and the courses you’ve taken, without putting too much pressure on experience and expertise.

Don’t worry if neither of these sounds suitable for you – the hybrid or combination resume format will surely match your needs. It’s similar to the reverse-chronological, but with a catchy twist. Combination or hybrid resumes are great for showcasing both your experience and work-related skills and your personal qualities. Add a “What my day looks like” section for enhancing the jaw-dropping experience!

hybrid (combination) resume format built on Enhancv platform

Here are more resume tips regarding your layout and style :

  • Clear and legible 12p resume font size;
  • Use 10’’ resume margins - that’s default for a great resume design;
  • Use a one-page template resume length if you’ve got less than 10 years of experience; otherwise, opt for a two-page resume ;
  • Save your resume as PDF before sending it to the recruiter.

To take it a step further, check out how your resume can stand out without leaning too much on the creative side.

Piano Instructor Cover Letter Example (Full Text Version)

Catherine Robbie

Dear Hiring Manager,

As a qualified Piano Instructor with 6 years of experience teaching in high schools, I apply with enthusiasm for this opportunity.

I am currently the Piano Teacher at Sunnybank High School, where I cultivate students’ interest in piano and musical development by teaching instrumental techniques, scales, music theory, and sight reading. I explain and demonstrate pitch, tempo, rhythm, and other concepts that are fundamental to playing music. I also grade assignments, evaluate progress, and plan educational activities.

I find teaching to be both energizing and intellectually stimulating, especially in view of the steep challenges that music education now presents. While I teach my students to be excellent musicians and performers, I also strongly believe that music positively influences self-esteem, communication skills, stress management, and creativity for their entire life. Furthermore, while it is important to draw upon classical music as part of the curriculum, I proactively seek out material from contemporary musicians and styles to engage and stimulate younger learners.

In addition to my professional experience, I hold a Bachelor of Music (Piano Performance). Before I became a teacher, I performed extensively across North America and Europe in numerous orchestras. This enables me to better relate to students from different cultures and backgrounds.

Your school has a strong reputation for the excellence of its music education. I would be honoured to contribute to your piano program with the unique experiences I bring as a successful performing artist combined with my dynamic teaching career.

Please find attached my résumé for your consideration. Thank you very much for your time. I look forward to hearing from you regarding next steps.

Yours faithfully,
