The Best Driving Schools in Toronto of 2024

If you’re going to learn how to drive on the streets of Toronto, bear in mind the city has two seasons: winter and construction. And sometimes construction runs through the winter.

Toronto is a big city – one of the most populated in North America – with obstacles for new drivers that include streetcars, bike lanes (dedicated or otherwise), seemingly endless Eglinton Crosstown LRT construction, a CaféTO initiative that has outdoor patios and restaurants spilling over into city streets in the summer, race cars that once-a-year take over Lake Shore Blvd., and a bounty of street festivals, among so much else across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to keep you on your toes.  As a new driver, you should be aware of how the region’s size and dynamics influence how and where you will learn to drive.

While it may seem daunting to drive in Toronto, driving is still one of the most essential life skills one can obtain. Being able to drive can help you land a job while giving you the freedom to get where you need and want to go in your own time.

And regardless of whether you live in a rural area or a large urban centre like Toronto, you will need to learn all aspects of operating a motor vehicle to ensure you are a safe driver who can anticipate how to manage varying road conditions and traffic. The habits and skills you learn when you first start driving will shape how you drive for the rest of your life (and if you can withstand the high stimuli of Toronto, you’ll be well prepared to drive anywhere.)

That’s why finding the right driving lessons with skilled instructors is so important. Not only will learning from a professional driving instructor in a neutral environment set you up for success — you’ll also get a break on your car insurance. Most provinces, including Ontario, offer discounts for auto insurance to new drivers who can prove they have completed a certified driving course – anywhere from 10 to 20 per cent for those who have completed a driver education program, resulting in as much as $400 to $1,200 annually.

The best driving schools will teach you how to navigate Toronto with a range of learning options and packages that include online, simulated, in-class and in-car instruction with options for additional in-car hours for those who want more road experience before taking their driving test. The cars these schools offer are equipped with unique controls, such as an extra brake on the passenger side, so instructors can ensure the student’s safety while learning.

The minimum requirement for a Ministry of Transportation (MTO)-approved beginners’ driver education course in Ontario is 40 hours, comprising 20 in-class, 10 hours in-vehicle and 10 hours of flexible instruction.

In Ontario, driving school students can earn their G2 license in eight months after passing their written test, compared to 12 months for non-students.

A course that teaches you how to drive in Toronto will typically cost between $695 and $1,800, depending on the length of the program you choose and whether you need a vehicle with which to take your driving test.

Given the size of Toronto and its many streets, there are many options for government-approved schools with solid track records of preparing students for their road tests in Canada’s biggest city. Here, based on thousands of student ratings and reviews and a close look at licensing and student success rates, are the best driving schools in Toronto.

young-drivers-of-canada

Young Drivers (YD) of Canada is Canada’s largest driver training organization and one of the best-known driving schools in Canada. In business since 1970, it has helped train more than 1.3 million students. YD also offers driver improvement, re-testing, fleet training and cognitive training.

What Students Are Saying

“ Great program although no longer the most affordable... I see some new guys on CourseCompare that didn't even exist when I was getting my G1! Young Drivers is still the industry benchmark and provides those good insurance benefits. I ended up going back as an instructor and liked it, getting paid $27/hr! ” Max S., Drivers Education

What You’ll Learn

You can do the theory portion of YD’s beginner driver program in person, online or in virtually guided sessions.

Its online program is a beginner driver education course and aimed at helping new drivers learn the skills needed to pass their driver’s test and stay safe on the roads. It’s an intuitive driving program with interactive online lessons. Students can start the online portion of this course upon registration; a licence is not required to begin. The online learning modules are designed to help new drivers think like experienced drivers. Students will be able to identify the problems and solutions needed to avoid a crash. The lessons are presented through animations, text, images, and videos.

In-car Training Experience

Each Young Drivers in-vehicle lesson is one-on-one to ensure students drive without distractions and get the most out of the training. All in-car lessons are customized to each driver.

Thes school’s Collisionfree! Approach™ system includes four habits and 20 sub-habits, including: risk perception; gravel shoulder recovery; threshold/ABS braking; rear-crash avoidance; head-on collision avoidance; emergency braking; brake and avoid techniques; swerving techniques; and freeway driving – all especially important in a large, hectic city like Toronto.

If you’re a teen, you can start your training several months before actually turning 16 years of age (16 being the legal age minimum for writing the G1 test in Ontario). Young Driver’s also encourages to observe their child’s training sessions and receive guidance on how to support their child’s driving development outside of formal lessons.

kruzee

Launched in Ontario in June 2022, Kruzee’s mission is to make it easier for new drivers to get licensed, insured, and on the road with competitive prices and a novel, digital-first approach.

Students can book driving instructors in their area and complete theory lessons at their own pace online. The driving school startup also offers ministry-approved beginner driver education courses that may qualify some learners for accelerated G2 licensing times and auto insurance discounts. The Kruzee platform allows students to choose when, where, and with whom they learn to drive, offering a level of ease and flexibility that sets it apart from traditional driving schools in Toronto.

Kruzee is also building a growing customer base by undercutting incumbents: It’s entry-level course costs roughly 30 per cent less than Young Driver’s equivalent offering. Moreover, the school offers an up to 20 per cent reduction in auto insurance (the reduction will vary by insurer), and five free auto insurance quotes, among other perks for new drivers.

“ I had my lessons with Paul and Arminder and both were so great! They were both calm, kind and patient in their teaching style. I was a very anxious driver with minimal driving experience but I felt confident in my skills after the lessons. I passed my G on the first try with their lessons! I loved that I can personalize my schedule time with downtown pick up locations, which was very important while living in Toronto. I would recommend this to anyone who has been putting off getting their license out of fear, like me. ” Jasmin S., Beginner Driver Certificate Course

Students will have 30 hours of online, self-paced learning and 10 hours of in-car lessons with a certified and trained Kruzee driving instructor, who will pick you up for your lessons. The in-car training covers requirements established by MTO, from vehicle maintenance and operation and control to defensive driving and road test preparation.

By-the-hour driving practice is available to help you accomplish your goals — whether you’re going for a G2 or G exam or need a general refresh. Kruzee also offers its own vehicles for road tests, free pick up and drop off before and afterward, and a 30-minute refresher course for an additional $295 CAD.

Once you’re done in the classroom, personalized in-vehicle lessons expand your knowledge further, preparing you for a lifetime of safe driving. The school claims to have a 99.9 per cent or greater client recommendation and trains more than 35,000 drivers annually.

iDrive teaches students about the local traffic rules and speed limits and teach them how to become safe drivers with skills that will support them throughout their lives. For an additional 45-minute in-car class, you will receive an extra lesson on your chosen topic, such as city driving, adverse weather driving or night driving.

Drive Maxx has more than a decade of experience teaching new drivers with its MTO-approved beginner driver education (BDE) program. Once it’s completed, students can get the Driver’s Licence History (DLH) from Service Ontario, which the insurance industry recognizes as proof of course completion. The program also reduces the waiting period to appear in a road test.

Drive Maxx focuses on defensive driving techniques and strategies – a must have on the streets of Toronto. The school offers in-class and in-car sessions. Students receive 20 hours of online training and 10 lessons in-car for the base program and can pay more to have additional hours of in-car lessons.

He ensured that I understood not just the mechanics of driving, but also the importance of being a safe and responsible driver. ” Onaib Faisal, Beginner Driver Education

The school’s accident prevention training exposes drivers to the complexity of driving with challenges and distractions and helps ensure they are prepared once they start driving independently. During the program, Young Star Driving School students learn to avoid a head-on collision and control the vehicle in an emergency. They will also be taught how best to react when another vehicle suddenly appears, as well as to watch for animals and cyclists on the road.

Listen: we know homework isn’t fun, but it is a good way to reinforce the ideas and concepts you’ve learned in class. But what if you’re really struggling with your homework assignments?

If you’ve looked online for a little extra help with your take-home assignments, you’ve probably stumbled across websites claiming to provide the homework help and answers students need to succeed . But can homework help sites really make a difference? And if so, which are the best homework help websites you can use?

Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help websites–free and paid. We’ll go over:

  • The basics of homework help websites
  • The cost of homework help websites
  • The five best homework websites out there
  • The pros and cons of using these websites for homework help
  • The line between “learning” and “cheating” when using online homework help
  • Tips for getting the most out of a homework help website

So let’s get started!

The Basics About Homework Help Websites–Free and Paid

Homework help websites are designed to help you complete your homework assignments, plain and simple.

What Makes a Homework Help Site Worth Using

Most of the best sites allow users to ask questions and then provide an answer (or multiple possible answers) and explanation in seconds. In some instances, you can even send a photo of a particular assignment or problem instead of typing the whole thing out!

Homework help sites also offer more than just help answering homework questions. Common services provided are Q&A with experts, educational videos, lectures, practice tests and quizzes, learning modules, math solving tools, and proofreading help. Homework help sites can also provide textbook solutions (i.e. answers to problems in tons of different textbooks your school might be using), one-on-one tutoring, and peer-to-peer platforms that allow you to discuss subjects you’re learning about with your fellow students.

And best of all, nearly all of them offer their services 24/7, including tutoring!

What You Should Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of scam sites out there willing to prey on desperate students. Before you sign up for any service, make sure you read reviews to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

A word to the wise: the more a company advertises help that veers into the territory of cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. The best homework help websites are going to help you learn the concepts you’ll need to successfully complete your homework on your own. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” a little later!)

body-gold-piggy-bank-money

You don't need a golden piggy bank to use homework help websites. Some provide low or no cost help for students like you!

How Expensive Are the Best Homework Help Websites?

First of all, just because a homework help site costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. Likewise, just because a homework help website is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best websites, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.

The 5 Best Homework Help Websites

So, what is the best homework help website you can use? The answer is that it depends on what you need help with.

The best homework help websites are the ones that are reliable and help you learn the material. They don’t just provide answers to homework questions–they actually help you learn the material.

That’s why we’ve broken down our favorite websites into categories based on who they’re best for . For instance, the best website for people struggling with math might not work for someone who needs a little extra help with science, and vice versa.

Keep reading to find the best homework help website for you!

Best Free Homework Help Site: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

Not only is Khan Academy free, but it’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.

Runner Up: Brainly.com offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that you’re limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads.

Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg

  • Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school.

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects.

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

body-photomath-logo-2

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

  • Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services)
  • Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them.

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers.

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

  • Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want
  • Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help.

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter!

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!

body-studtypool-logo

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

  • Best for: Science homework help
  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly.

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites

First, let’s take a look at the benefits.

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays.

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college.

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you can’t access the free resources that are available at your school.

#3: Variety

Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe you’re more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but you’re expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .

One of the best things about online homework help is that it comes in a variety of forms. The best homework help sites offer resources for all types of learners, including videos, practice activities, and even one-on-one discussions with real-life experts.

This variety can also be a good thing if you just don’t really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).

body_stophand

Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help.

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option.

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up.

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service!

body-cheat-cheating-cc0

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get.

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating.

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help Websites for You

Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website.

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

Tip 4: Set a Budget

If you decide you want to go with a paid homework help website, set a budget first . The prices for sites vary wildly, and the cost to use them can add up quick.

Tip 5: Read the Reviews

Finally, it’s always a good idea to read actual reviews written by the people using these homework sites. You’ll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the users’ experiences have been. This is especially true if you intend to subscribe to a paid service. You’ll want to make sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!

Since learning in now almost completely remote, it is time that we get our Google Drive and Google Classroom organized. Here are 5 google classroom tips! | maneuveringthemiddle.com

I like to organize my Drive according to units, and I number them so they are also grouped together. You can add emoji numbers or icons by visiting this website .  You probably already have a file naming convention, but here is what works for me. My files are titled Unit Number.Day in the Unit.Skill Name, so 04.09 Adding Integers refers to what I am teaching in my fourth unit, on day nine. This keeps files in order and reminds me what I will see when I open the file.

3. Convert Uploads to Avoid Duplicates

Raise your hand if you like to work in Microsoft Word because of the equation editor. Both hands up over here! I could never quite get on board with using Google Docs to create assignments or notes because I had become so proficient typing equations in Microsoft Word. However, I just learned that there is an easy fix for that. Upload your Microsoft Word documents and convert them into Google Docs in one easy step…one time for all future files.

Since learning in now almost completely remote, it is time that we get our Google Drive and Google Classroom organized. Here are 5 google classroom tips! | maneuveringthemiddle.com

Go to settings icon > click on Settings again > under General Tab > click box that reads “Convert uploaded files to Google Docs editor format”

If this is clicked, anytime you upload a Word document, it will automatically be uploaded ready to be edited in Google Docs or ready for Google Classroom. No more duplicates and no more being asked if you want to convert your Word document to a Google doc.

4. Organize Your Google Classroom Assignments by Using Topics

Head over to Shake Up Learning right now to learn how she recommends organizing your Google Classroom assignments. Topics allow you to create “units” inside your Google Classroom. The only downside is that the newest created topic automatically populates at the bottom of the page.  Kasey discusses 6 different ways you could organize your Google Classroom by topic in light of this downside.

5. Link Directly to Assignment on Google Classroom

Sometimes you just want to link directly to the assignment. You want a student to click and “poof” there the assignment is!  Maybe you need to post it to another platform or you just want the darn link because giving directions to find an old assignment is too cumbersome.

Click on the ellipses next to the assignment and click on “Copy Link.” That was easy!

I want to thank you for this resource! Last week was a real struggle to keep assignments organized for the students and myself; there was so much confusion! I am looking forward to setting up our agenda using your slides. They are colorful (which I LOVE) and I think will help my kiddos be able to stay on point! Thank you for all the hard work you have put in to make distance learning run a little smoother.

Thank you for sharing the colorful Google Classroom Template and the information on creating a daily assignment “hub.” I had outlined what I would be teaching this week, but I just wasn’t sure how to organize all of the lessons and assignments in Google Classroom and how to present them to my students. The template is perfect, and I’m relieved to know that I’ll be able to use it week after week to keep everything flowing smoothly. Thanks!

I love the template, and I cannot wait to use it. Is there anyway I would change a couple of the titles? I would like to add Objective and Learning Targets instead of Today and Announcements.

Hi! Thanks for the great tips! Just wanted to let you know that you can move the google classroom topics – on app, you hold down the title you want to move & it pops up all the titles and you can move it. I know that’s possible on computer webpage but I forget how right now and since I’m on vacation I’m dedicated to not opening my computer until the end of the week. ????

Hi, Liz — Thanks for sharing that helpful tip! –Tyne

How-To Geek

How to change a drive letter on windows 10 or windows 11.

You can change your drive letters in Windows 10 and 11 using the Disk Management utility.

Quick Links

What changing a drive letter does, how to change a drive letter, how to fix programs broken by changing a drive letter.

Changing the letter of a drive is easy on Windows 10 and Windows 11, but you should do it as soon as you add the drive to prevent future hassles. Find out how to change a drive letter here.

Windows assigns drive letters alphabetically --- starting with C --- when they're initialized. If you want to change a drive letter, you should do it before you install anything on the drive. Changing a drive letter after programs are installed could break them since there will be references to an installation location that is no longer there.

Windows has gotten pretty smart about updating shortcuts so that programs work after changing a drive letter. Most of your applications' shortcuts will probably be automatically corrected. Unfortunately, Windows isn't as good about updating file associations. You'll have to manually set the default apps associated with files to fix file associations if they were broken by changing the drive letter.

It is possible to change the boot drive letter to something else, but we don't recommend it. Changing C:\ to another letter is likely to result in severe issues, like a PC that cannot boot into Windows at all. Even if it were able to boot, there would be a huge number of programs that would not be able to run.

Technically speaking, while they are commonly called drive letters, each letter actually refers to a partition on a disk. If you have multiple partitions on a single disk, you will need to assign a letter to each partition to make them all accessible. If a disk has just a single partition, it will just have a single letter pointing to that partition. (However, you do not have to assign a letter to each partition. Partitions without drive letters will not appear in File Explorer and elsewhere.)

Changing a drive letter is pretty simple. Click the Start button, type "Disk Management" in the search bar, and then hit Enter.

The program name displayed in the search will not be Disk Management. It will be "Create and format hard disk partitions."

You could also hit Windows+X or right-click the Start button, and then click "Disk Management."

Identify the drive you'd like to change in the Disk Management Window. In this example, we'll change the letter of the D:\ drive to J:\. You can right-click the drive on the text list, or on the menu below. Either works.

Select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" in the right-click menu that appears.

In the window that pops up, click "Change."

Select whatever letter you want from the drop-down menu. Then click "Ok."

Two popups will warn you about changing your drive letter. Click "Yes" on both of them, and then restart your computer.

Once Windows has restarted, the drive letter should be changed.

There are a few ways you can fix a program broken by changing the drive letter.

Fix The Shortcut

If you're lucky, the only thing that is broken is the shortcut. Fix a shortcut by right-clicking the shortcut on your desktop, and then click Properties.

You need to change the target of the shortcut to the new drive letter.

For example, if GIMP was previously installed at " D :\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.10.exe," and you changed the D drive to J, change the target of the shortcut to " J :\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.10.exe."

Finalize the change by clicking "Apply" and then "Ok."

Reinstall the Program

Reinstalling the program will generate new entries in the registry, so everything on the computer will know where to look for the program. Some installers won't like reinstalling directly over existing files, so you may need to rename or delete the old installation first.

Change the Drive Letter Back

If you changed the drive letter of a drive with a lot of programs installed, it might be easier to change the drive letter back. Changing the drive letter back should automatically fix any programs and file associations that were broken.

Edit the Registry

You can break programs, or even Windows itself, by editing the registry. Be careful, and learn about how to edit the registry before you try it. Make sure you backup the Windows registry first. You should not attempt this method unless you have no other options.

Windows, and a lot of programs, track where programs are installed via the Windows registry. It is possible to manually adjust the registry to fix broken programs. Keep in mind that there could be dozens of registry entries you need to edit. A program like GIMP can have registry entries for the context menu, for the "Open With" menu, for any file associations, and for the location of its executables. Other programs may only have a few entries related to where it is installed.

If you're not deterred, here's how you do it.

First, you need to know where the program was previously installed. In this case, the program was installed to the "D:\GIMP 2" folder, and the executables were found the "D:\GIMP 2\bin" sub-folder. It is now located at "J:\GIMP 2" instead.

We need to update the registry to reflect the change in location. Click the Start button, type "regedit" into the search bar, right-click Regedit, and click "Run as administrator."

In Regedit, hit Ctrl+F to bring up a search window. Type in the old location for the program you're trying to fix --- "D:\GIMP 2" for our example --- then click "Find Next."

Once Regedit has found something with "D:\GIMP 2" as part of a path, it'll show it to you. Here is an example from the GIMP search.

To actually change them, double click the name of the registry entry you want to modify. Then change the drive letter to J, or whatever you chose. If you didn't otherwise move the folder, leave the rest of the path alone. Then click "Ok."

You'll need to repeat this multiple times. To find the next result using your search term, you can hit the F3 key. There will be a popup once you've found all of the entries.

Changing drive letters can be a simple way to customize your PC. Do it before you install anything on the drive, however. You'll prevent any problems before they occur, and probably save yourself quite a bit of troubleshooting.

19th Edition of Global Conference on Catalysis, Chemical Engineering & Technology

Victor Mukhin, Speaker at Chemical Engineering Conferences

Title : Active carbons as nanoporous materials for solving of environmental problems

However, up to now, the main carriers of catalytic additives have been mineral sorbents: silica gels, alumogels. This is obviously due to the fact that they consist of pure homogeneous components SiO2 and Al2O3, respectively. It is generally known that impurities, especially the ash elements, are catalytic poisons that reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst. Therefore, carbon sorbents with 5-15% by weight of ash elements in their composition are not used in the above mentioned technologies. However, in such an important field as a gas-mask technique, carbon sorbents (active carbons) are carriers of catalytic additives, providing effective protection of a person against any types of potent poisonous substances (PPS). In ESPE “JSC "Neorganika" there has been developed the technology of unique ashless spherical carbon carrier-catalysts by the method of liquid forming of furfural copolymers with subsequent gas-vapor activation, brand PAC. Active carbons PAC have 100% qualitative characteristics of the three main properties of carbon sorbents: strength - 100%, the proportion of sorbing pores in the pore space – 100%, purity - 100% (ash content is close to zero). A particularly outstanding feature of active PAC carbons is their uniquely high mechanical compressive strength of 740 ± 40 MPa, which is 3-7 times larger than that of  such materials as granite, quartzite, electric coal, and is comparable to the value for cast iron - 400-1000 MPa. This allows the PAC to operate under severe conditions in moving and fluidized beds.  Obviously, it is time to actively develop catalysts based on PAC sorbents for oil refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and various technologies of organic synthesis.

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
