User Guide for Universiti Putra Malaysia Postgraduate Students' Thesis Template
PREFACE This user guide is for a thesis template developed using L A T E X in both English and Bahasa Melayu versions specifically created to cater to academic requirements as required by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) for postgraduate students of UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA (UPM). The thesis template serves as an alternative to using Microsoft Word in the writing of an academic dissertation. L A T E X (Lamport, 1994) is a typesetting system which is very suitable for producing scientific and mathematical documents of high typographical quality for publication. It was first introduced as T E X (Knuth, D.E., 1984) in 1977 but was upgraded to the now known L A T E X in 1994. L A T E X is available for most computer systems, from the PC and Mac to large UNIX and VMS systems. It is available free-of-charge making it very accessible for all students.
