If you’re looking for good topics for presentations, you’ve landed on the right page. In this article, you’ll find plenty of good presentation topics, tips on choosing the most suitable topic for you, and essential design elements to make your presentation a success.
Many factors go into an excellent presentation. You need to have confident body language and engage your audience to hold their attention. You also need eye-catching visual aids like images, data visualizations, GIFs, and others (all of which you can find in Prezi ), not to mention a great opening to grab attention and a strong closing line to stay memorable. However, the most essential aspect of your presentation is the topic. It’s the core of your presentation, so it has to be strong, insightful, attention-grabbing, and appealing to yourself and your audience in order to evolve into a successful presentation everyone will love.
How to choose a good presentation topic
There are millions of topics you could create a presentation on, but what defines a good topic? If you’re struggling to either come up with a good topic for a presentation or you can’t decide between multiple ones, here are a few questions you should ask yourself before choosing a topic.
What’s the goal of your presentation?
When you’re choosing a topic, consider the meaning behind it. Ask yourself what the purpose of talking about this topic is, and what you want to say about it. Whatever topic you choose to present, the conclusion needs to provide a takeaway or lesson you want to communicate to your audience. A meaningful goal will make your presentation more memorable.
Are you interested in the topic?
If you’re not interested in the topic, others won’t be curious either. Interest, enthusiasm, and passion enrich your presentation and are noticeable when presenting. Interest shines through and inspires others to find the topic as fascinating as you do. Think about the last time you saw someone sharing something they were passionate about – their excitement drew people in to pay closer attention to what they were saying.
When choosing a topic, you need to find it or a particular angle of it interesting for yourself. For example, perhaps you’re not a pop music enthusiast, but you’re passionate about studying cultural phenomena. In this case, you can talk about pop music’s influence on early 2000s youth culture.
Will your audience find this topic relatable?
While you have to find the topic you’re presenting interesting, you also have to think about your audience. When choosing a subject, consider your audience’s background in terms of demographics, interests, culture, and knowledge level about the topic. Think about what others will find fascinating and relevant, so they’re not bored or confused during your presentation.
Do you have prior experience or knowledge about this topic?
Personal experiences are always great to share in a presentation, providing your unique perspective for anyone listening. While you can easily prepare your presentation based on a quick Google search, it won’t make the same lasting impact on your audience. Choose a topic you have some prior knowledge about, or have an interesting opinion you can share with others. It’ll make your presentation more engaging and memorable.
Ideas for good presentation topics
It’s not easy to come up with a good presentation topic from scratch. It’s much easier to get inspired from other good presentation topics to build your topic on. How to create a good presentation
If you know what you want to present on, it’s time to create an impactful presentation that grabs everyone’s attention. Presentation design plays a crucial role in how your presentation is received and remembered. To stand out and leave a memorable impact on your audience, create a Prezi presentation. Instead of a linear, slide-based presentation, offer an engaging and dynamic storytelling experience to your audience. Breathe life into your presentation with motion, zoom, and spatial relationships. When creating your presentation, consider the following three essential elements:
Visuals play a significant part in presentation design. They evoke emotions, make a memorable impact, and give more context to the story. Not to mention, 65% of people are visual learners , so visual aids are helpful when explaining a complex topic.
In your presentation, include different types of visuals, such as images, videos, GIFs, and stickers, all of which you can find in Prezi’s content library. When selecting your visuals, consider what’s relevant and brings additional value to the story. Only add what’s meaningful and necessary. A video or image at the right place and time will enrich the viewing experience and make your presentation more memorable.
The layout of your presentation is the structure of your story. It’ll help you introduce the topic, intrigue your audience, and unfold the layers of your topic one by one until you disclose your main arguments and summarize the presentation. A good presentation layout has a hierarchical, chronological, or logical flow that leads the viewer from start to finish.
If you’re creating a Prezi presentation, you can create a dynamic storytelling experience by experimenting with your layout. Instead of going from slide to slide, you can zoom in and out of topics and experiment with different shapes, animations, and effects that draw the viewer into your story world. Here’s an example of a Prezi presentation with a great storytelling layout:
Author: Lydia Antonatos
Data visualizations can elevate your presentation from being a good one to a great one. By providing data behind your arguments, you’ll appear more trustworthy and confident in your audience’s eyes.
Add charts, graphs, interactive maps, and more to your presentations with Prezi Design. You can choose from a wide selection of charts and maps to illustrate your data. With interactive elements, you’ll be able to engage your audience and make a memorable impact.
Engaging visuals, a well-structured layout, and relevant data visualizations will provide a great starting base to create a memorable presentation. Discover other tips and tricks that make your presentation effective and capture people’s attention.
Choosing a topic for a presentation isn’t easy. When selecting a topic, think about the goal of your presentation, your interest and knowledge about the topic, and whether or not your audience will find it relevant and interesting for them. Also, get inspired by other topics that’ll help you figure out what you want to talk about. Lastly, when creating your presentation, consider the impact of visuals, layout, and data visualizations. To simplify the creation process, follow the step-by-step process of making a presentation with helpful tips and resources.

Identifying your presentation’s target audience is the first step in choosing a technology topic that will resonate with them and meet their needs.
You can define your audience by the following aspects:
Demographics
Consider the demographics of your audience, such as age, gender, education, and professional background. Different demographics may have different levels of familiarity and interest in technology.
- For example, an audience of tech-savvy professionals may require an advanced or specialized topic, while a general audience with diverse backgrounds may benefit from a broader subject matter.
Take into account your audience’s interests and areas of focus.
- Are they primarily interested in the business applications of the technology?
- Are they more concerned with the social or ethical implications?
Understanding their interests will help you tailor your topic to capture their attention and engage them throughout your presentation.
Technical knowledge
Evaluate the level of technical knowledge your audience possesses by answering these questions:
- Are they beginners with a limited understanding of the technology, or are they experts in the field?
Then you can adjust the complexity and depth of your subject accordingly. Make sure that the presentation strikes the right balance between being easy to understand to people with limited technical backgrounds while providing value for those with more advanced knowledge.
Specific needs
Consider the specific needs and challenges of your audience.
- Can the problems they are facing be solved by technology?
- Can you offer solutions, strategies, or real-world examples that work for their situation?
Tailoring your theme to meet their needs will improve the relevance and applicability of your presentation.
By carefully considering your audience’s demographics, interests, and technical savvy, you can choose a technology topic that aligns with their interests and captures their curiosity.
Defining technology topics for presentation involves clarifying its scope, purpose, and key aspects. You can effectively define your technology topic in the following steps:
- Start by conducting preliminary research on broad technology topics that interest you.
- Explore technology trends and industry news to identify potential topics that align with your presentation goals.
- Once you have a broad idea, narrow the focus of your topic to specific sub-topics, applications, or challenges in the technology sector that you find interesting or relevant.
- Consider the resources available, such as research materials, case studies, or expert interviews.
- Consider the time constraints of your presentation and determine the appropriate scope and depth for your topic. Ensure that the content can be adequately covered within the allocated time.
By following these steps, you can effectively define a technology theme for your presentation.
Understanding why you chose a particular topic for your presentation is essential as it helps define the purpose and goals of your presentation. Here are some common:
Educational purpose
If your objective is to educate your audience, explain why you chose this topic.
- Is it because the technology is new, and you want to provide an overview?
- Are you aiming to share technology-related insights, knowledge, or best practices?
Communicate the educational value your chosen topic brings to your audience.
Purpose of persuasion
If your goal is to convince your audience, explain why you believe the topic is important and deserves their attention.
- Highlight the potential impact or benefit that technology can have.
- Present compelling evidence, case studies, or examples that support your argument.
Emphasize why your audience should be interested in this topic and how it can positively affect their lives, work, or industry.
Inspirational purpose
If you aim to inspire your audience, explain what makes this tech theme so inspiring or innovative.
- Share stories of successful implementations or groundbreaking progress.
- Discuss the transformative power of technology and how it has the potential to change lives, industries, or society as a whole.
Inspire your audience by showcasing the possibilities and encouraging them to embrace the potential of technology.
Awareness purpose
If your goal is to create awareness, explain why this topic deserves attention and recognition.
- Discuss any social, environmental, or ethical impacts associated with the technology.
- Highlight challenges or risks that need to be addressed.
Raise awareness of the importance of understanding and interacting with the subject for the betterment of individuals, organizations, or the world at large.
When you clearly define the purpose and objectives of your presentation, you provide a guiding framework for structuring your content, selecting supporting examples or data, and tailoring your delivery to achieve the desired impact on your audience.
By considering the “When” and “Where” aspects of your presentation, you can effectively plan and prepare for the logistics and environment for your presentation. This ensures that you are equipped with the necessary resources to deliver a successful and engaging presentation experience.
Here are some pointers you need to check about time and location when preparing a presentation:
- Timing: Determine the date and time of your presentation. Take into account any deadlines, event schedules, or specific timeframes that may impact the availability or attention of your target audience.
- Location: Identify the venue or platform where you deliver your presentation. Will it be an in-person event at a physical location or an online presentation through a video conferencing platform or webinar?
- Setting and Environment: If it is an in-person presentation, evaluate the seating arrangement, stage setup, audio-visual equipment, etc. If it is an online presentation, ensure that you have a quiet and well-lit space with a stable internet connection.
- Technical Considerations: Pay attention to any technical considerations associated with your presentation. Make sure you have access to the necessary technology, equipment, and technical support.

The Equity Summit, July 25-26, 2024, is a virtual event for diversity, equity, and inclusion officers (and those doing the work without the title), as well as local government professionals interested in ideas and institutions to deepen strategies, shape actions, and create solutions.
Throughout two days, the event will create and foster relationships with like-minded professionals, as well as cover best practices, ideas, and innovations in the DEIB space and local government management profession.
This year’s theme: "Keeping It Moving: The Power of Us" signifies the strength and effectiveness that comes from collective action, collaboration, and solidarity.
In DEI&B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) circles, "Keeping It Moving: The Power of Us" emphasizes the notion that meaningful progress toward equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging is achieved when individuals, organizations, and communities come together to address systemic barriers, advocate for marginalized groups, and foster environments where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. Through this summit, ICMA seeks to equip and inspire DEIB professionals and their supporters, encouraging them to stay the course, particularly important in the context of our current sociopolitical environment.
Share ideas for session presentations in these tracks:
- Equity Leader: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officers (and those doing the work without the title).
- Local Government Leader: Chief Administrative Officers, Assistants/Deputies, Department Heads.
Selected in concert with the ICMA Equity Officer Cohort, ICMA seeks sessions with engaging speakers and presentations, focused on topics such as, but not limited to, these examples:
- Foundational Principles of DEI&B.
- Organizational Practices and Leadership.
- Cultural Awareness and Social Impact.
- Data Driven Approaches and Continuous Improvement.
- Creative Engagement in an Era of Divisive Democracy.

Undergraduates convene at Johns Hopkins for humanities research symposium
The fifth annual richard macksey national undergraduate humanities research symposium featured 175 student presentations on original research.
By Rachel Wallach
In one Gilman Hall classroom, the discussion had turned to questions of honor. What was it, did it historically apply to women as well as men, and had U.S. ideas about it changed since the time of the infamous Hamilton-Burr duel?
One floor up, the focus was on what defines the genre of gothic or occult novels. One panelist held that ghost stories don't need actual ghosts; that their psychological aspects are sufficient. Another said that disconnection is what allows the occultic to take place, and a third proposed an additional type of occultic-defining narrative to add to the accepted two: multigenerational circularity. "It taps into our deep fear that an individual's life and death are predetermined," said Audra Nikolajski, an undergraduate at the University of South Florida. A fourth panelist discussed Latina characters in gothic literature, noting that there are few.
The presentations and their lively Q&A sessions took place during the Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium , held on the Homewood campus March 21-23. It's the fifth year for the symposium, which brings together undergraduate humanities students from across the country to present their work to a national audience. This year, 175 students gave presentations all day Friday and Saturday in panels of three to four students each.
"It's really interesting to learn about a variety of things that you don't necessarily get in the classroom. I'm super excited because of how different all of the topics are, and I'm already feeling inspired for future research," said Kayleigh Fick of the University of the Pacific. Fick would later present a rhetorical analysis of Eva Perón's speeches, and had just finished moderating a panel titled Episodes in U.S. History.
Each panel was moderated by a student volunteer—supported with guidelines and video tutorials—who also presented in a different session. Panels included themes like Culture and Community in the U.S. South, Reflections on Poetry, Humanistic Perspectives on Medicine, and The Sacred and the Spiritual.
"I was so shocked looking at the program with how interdisciplinary this conference is. I had not imagined something with so many different topics," said the College of William and Mary's Amy Weitzman, who had given the presentation about honor. "When I was choosing the panels to go to, I specifically chose ones I'd never heard anything about before. The questions that I've been asked really made me think about things I wouldn't have thought about otherwise."
A Friday evening keynote was given by Sami Schalk, associate professor of gender and women's studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her talk, open to the public, explored the Black Panther Party's involvement in 1977's 504 Sit-in—when a group of people with disabilities protested in San Francisco to demand greater accessibility and accommodations for people with disabilities—as an example of how Black cultural workers have engaged with disability as a political issue. Schalk also signed copies of her books, Black Disability Politics and Bodyminds Reimagined: (Dis)ability, Race, and Gender in Black Women's Speculative Fiction .
A Saturday afternoon plenary featured ongoing collaboration between student researchers at Johns Hopkins and Morgan State University on the Black Panther Party in Baltimore, making use of the almost complete collection of The Black Panther , the party's newspaper, recently acquired by the Sheridan Libraries .
Mingling with panelists—and the family members many brought with them—conference chair Jennifer Wester overheard discussions that didn't stop when sessions ended, and conversations sparked by passion for a common author.
"It's a nice way of highlighting what humanities research can do to engage with contemporary issues and really put a new lens on things that we thought we understood, and that's what I see these students doing, especially as young scholars," said Wester, director of the Krieger School's Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarly & Creative Activity (URSCA) .
"We're always trying to convince undergraduates that you have an important voice. Your unique voice, your unique perspective, is needed. I want them to have the confidence of 'I am a scholar; I am part of the scholarly conversation.'"
The symposium is named in honor of the late Richard A. Macksey , Professor Emeritus in the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature, a legend in the fields of critical theory, comparative literature, and film studies and a leader in the humanities overall. The event is hosted by URSCA, which also publishes a peer-reviewed journal of the proceedings—the Macksey Journal —the first undergraduate journal of its kind. URSCA oversees research grants, fellowships, and programs for Krieger School undergraduates and visiting undergraduate researchers from across the U.S.

Topic modeling and BookNLP: Seeking the emotional turn in the history of eighteenth-century English fiction
Image of the first edition of "Robinson Crusoe" with data visualizations by Professor Hui.
Join us on April 2nd at between 12 and 1:30 pm for a paper presentation titled " Topic modeling and BookNLP: Seeking the emotional turn in the history of eighteenth-century English fiction" on topics modelling, emotions, and data visualizations by Professor Haifeng Hui from School of Foreign Languages, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. Professor Hui is also currently a Visiting Scholar at Center for East Asian Studies at Stanford, and an affiliated researcher with CESTA. Lunch will be served for in person participants. If you cannot make it in person, we will have a Zoom option available as well. RSVP via this link to receive the Zoom link or to make sure that we have enough food.
Dr. Haifeng Hui (惠海峰 ) is Professor of English at the School of Foreign Languages, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. He researches children’s literature from diverse theoretical perspectives, including narratology, stylistics, adaptation studies, and digital humanities. He serves as an Advisor Board member of International Research in Children's Literature, and an editor of Jeunesse: Young People, Texts, Cultures. He received his B.A. (2003), M.A. (2006) and Ph.D. (2012) from Peking University. He is also a visiting scholar at University of California at Los Angeles (2014-2015). Haifeng’s recent publications include Adaptation of British Literary Classics for Children (Peking University Press, 2019), “Canon Studies in China: Traditions, Modernization and Revisions in the Global Context,” Poetics Today (2021), “Embedded Mental States in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and Uneven Distribution of Narratorial Attention,” Orbis Litterarrum (2023), “What Can Digital Humanities Do for Literary Adaptation Studies: Distant Reading of Children's Editions of Robinson Crusoe,” Digital Scholarship in the Humanities (2023).
Abstract of the Paper
While topic modeling has been widely used in NLP tasks, its application to literary texts has encountered challenges and dilemmas. In this seminar, I will begin by conducting topic modeling on a single novel, Robinson Crusoe , as a case study to demonstrate how we can use topic modeling for fiction analysis with the help of word2vec to differentiate different topic words in space, which makes it easier to interpret their significances. The result is further validated by readings of different editions of the novel through topic modeling. In the next step, I will apply topic modeling to the history of eighteenth-century English fiction, where I have found an interesting phenomenon of the topic of 'cry'. Following this clue, I have studied the evolution of emotional expression in English novels in the 18th century. By using BookNLP, I extract the usage of nouns and verbs related to emotions and feelings over the course of time, and explore how this trend is influenced by gender. The digital evidence amassed in this research contributes to understanding issues concerning the emergence of sentimentalism and emotions in literary works.

What is Good Friday? What the holy day means for Christians around the world
Christians around the world observe Good Friday two days before Easter, but what is it, and why do they commemorate the holy day?
The holiday is part of Holy Week, which leads up to Easter Sunday. Palm Sunday kicks off the series of Christian holy days that commemorate the Crucifixion and celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection.
"Good Friday has been, for centuries now, the heart of the Christian message because it is through the death of Jesus Christ that Christians believe that we have been forgiven of our sins," Daniel Alvarez, an associate teaching professor of religious studies at Florida International University, told USA TODAY.
What is Holy Saturday? What the day before Easter means for Christians around the world
When is Good Friday?
Good Friday is always the Friday before Easter. It's the second-to-last day of Holy Week.
In 2024, Good Friday will fall on March 29.
What is Good Friday?
Good Friday is the day Christ was sacrificed on the cross. According to Britannica , it is a day for "sorrow, penance, and fasting."
"Good Friday is part of something else," Gabriel Radle, an assistant professor of theology at the University of Notre Dame, previously told USA TODAY. "It's its own thing, but it's also part of something bigger."
Are Good Friday and Passover related?
Alvarez says that Good Friday is directly related to the Jewish holiday, Passover.
Passover , or Pesach, is a major Jewish holiday that celebrates the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt.
"The whole Christian idea of atoning for sin, that Jesus is our atonement, is strictly derived from the Jewish Passover tradition," said Alvarez.
How is that possible?
According to the professor, Passover celebrates the day the "Angel of Death" passed over the homes of Israelites who were enslaved by the Egyptians. He said that the Bible states when the exodus happened, families were told to paint their doors with lamb's blood so that God would spare the lives of their firstborn sons.
Alvarez says this is why Christians call Jesus the "lamb of God." He adds that the symbolism of the "blood of the lamb" ties the two stories together and is why Christians believe God sacrificed his firstborn son. Because, through his blood, humanity is protected from the "wrath of a righteous God that cannot tolerate sin."
He adds that the stories of the exodus and the Crucifixion not only further tie the stories together but also emphasize just how powerful the sacrifice of the firstborn and the shedding of blood are in religion.
"Jesus is the firstborn, so the whole idea of the death of the firstborn is crucial," said Alvarez.
He adds that the sacrifice of the firstborn, specifically a firstborn son, comes from an ancient and "primitive" idea that the sacrifice unleashes "tremendous power that is able to fend off any kind of force, including the wrath of God."
Why Is Good Friday so somber?
Alavarez says people might think this holiday is more depressing or sad than others because of how Catholics commemorate the Crucifixion.
"I think [it's] to a level that some people might think is morbid," said Alvarez.
He said Catholics not only meditate on Jesus' death, but primarily focus on the suffering he faced in the events that led up to his Crucifixion. That's what makes it such a mournful day for people.
But, the professor says that Jesus' suffering in crucial to Christianity as a whole.
"The suffering of Christ is central to the four Gospels," said Alvarez. "Everything else is incidental."
According to the professor, statues that use blood to emphasize the way Jesus and Catholic saints suffered is very common in Spanish and Hispanic Countries, but not as prevalent in American churches.
Do you fast on Good Friday?
Father Dustin Dought, the executive director of the Secretariat of Divine Worship of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, previously told USA TODAY that Good Friday and Ash Wednesday are the two days in the year that Roman Catholics are obliged to fast.
"This practice is a way of emptying ourselves so that we can be filled with God," said Dought.
What do you eat on Good Friday?
Many Catholics do not eat meat on any Friday during Lent. Anything with flesh is off-limits. Dought says this practice is to honor the way Jesus sacrificed his flesh on Good Friday.
Meat that is off limits includes:
Instead, many Catholics will eat fish. According to the Marine Stewardship Council , this is allowed because fish is considered to be a different type of flesh.
