Having an online version of your resume posted on the right sites is an effective strategy to increase your chances of a recruiter or an employer finding you.

Think of it this way, if you're applying for a job you found online, your resume only reaches that one specific employer.

However, there may be other companies interested in your expertise and skills which just haven't posted their job opening to the site you checked. Or, they prefer to employ recruiters to find qualified candidates for them.

When you publish your resume online you allow yourself to be found and aren't limiting yourself to a single job opening.

Rather, recruiters and hiring managers can read your CV as they search for potential applicants and reach out to you directly.

You never know which skills, keywords or past experience can interest a potential employer.

We did our research and handpicked the 5 best resume posting sites in 2024. These are the best places to post a resume if you want to get hired faster.

Many of them are job posting sites . The thing is, it’s now pretty common that job posting sites also allow job seekers to create a profile and upload their resumes .

Below this chapter you can also find an advanced step-by-step guide on how to post a resume to each of these sites.

  • Select your desired privacy setting. Finally, you can choose from private and public setting. Setting to public will, of course, get you more views and exposure. But it's totally up to you.
  • Click upload to finish. Boom, done.

Monster provides the resume posting feature in a few simple clicks. It's super easy and quick.

Here's how to post your existing resume on Monster:

  • Fill out the relevant information. These include your name, your email address, your phone number, location, etc.
  • Set your resume’s searchability status. Select how would you like your profile/resume to be displayed to employers searching Monster's database. You can select it to be visible or not visible to employers, as well as make your resume visible but hide your contact info.
  • Click submit. Yay! It's all done.

Here's how to post your existing resume on CareerBuilder:

  • Sign up to CareerBuilder. Create a free account using your Google, Facebook, or Apple account. Or sign in using your email account.
  • Click on "Upload a resume". Immediately after you sign up, you're given a choice to either upload a resume or create a profile.

  • Optional: fill in your profile. As a next step you can also fill in your profile information alongside having your resume posted. This helps the recruiters to find you and match with you.

This section shows you how to upload a resume on Dice to make your tech job dream come true.

Here's how to post your existing resume on Dice:

  • Register. First, you need to register by filling in your name, password, and email. When the registration is complete, log in to your account.
  • Click on profile. You need to first click on your name located in the banner on the right, and then select "Profile".
  • Select "Upload resume". This button is located in the Resume section in your profile. Choose the file and double click on it. Make sure to make any adjustments to your resume prior to this step.
  • A tip from Dice:   "If Dice had trouble reading your resume to populate your profile accurately, please be aware that many employers will parse your resume similarly, so we would recommend adjusting your resume format to make it more machine-readable, and not exclusively formatted for viewing."

The reason why we present LinkedIn as a number five is that in a lot of cases, your LinkedIn profile already serves as a "mini resume". Furthermore, uploading a resume to LinkedIn is slightly more complicated than it is for the previous websites.

In fact, we already have an article that is dedicated to adding your resume to LinkedIn , which contains a detailed guide and screenshots.

Nevertheless, here's a succinct version of the step-by-step guide on how to post your existing resume on LinkedIn:

  • First, go to your profile.
  • Go to “Featured” tab.
  • Click on "+" icon, select “Media” and choose the resume file from your computer (e.g. “resume.pdf”).

This way anyone will be able to see your resume under the "featured" section of your LinkedIn profile.

With Kickresume you can now generate your own unique URL link which can be shared with anyone you want. This way you don't need to worry about choosing the right file type, or how to attach the files.

Furthermore, you don't need to worry about privacy-related issues, since you're the one deciding who to share your resume with, or which parts of your resume will be shared.

Here's how to share your resume online with Kickresume:

  • Sign up or log in to your account.
  • Go to "Your Documents". Here, select "Resume".
  • Click on your existing resume or create a new one. Here you can choose templates and adjust everything according to your needs. If you're creating a new resume, you can also import your LinkedIn profile info.
  • Click "Share" and tap on "Link active" button. This activates your unique URL link. Have a look at the screenshot below which shows these buttons.
  • Scroll down to copy the link. Once you or someone else opens this link in a browser, your resume opens on a sleek background and there's also a feature that allows people to contact you directly.
  • Share your link with recruiters or use it for networking purposes. Easy!

Another way to get your resume out there is to create your own professional website.

Why should you do that? Be honest, you've definitely googled a person before, right? So will your potential future employer.

Rather than them finding your old cringey Facebook or Twitter account, they would now find a professional website containing information about your past work experience, achievements, special projects, and more.

Kickresume's website builder feature lets you turn your resume into a personal website in one click.

You can choose from a variety of website templates (free or premium) that not only look great but also entail many useful features. And yes, it's for free!

Here's a quick guide to building your own website using Kickresume's website builder:

  • Log in to your Kickresume account. You can do so by logging in via your Facebook, Google, or LinkedIn accounts, as well as your email address.
  • View "Your Documents". Here, select "Webpage". It's the second option in the banner at the top.
  • Choose from 3 options. Hover over the "+" sign to display three options for creating your website. You can either create a new webpage, import information from LinkedIn, or create a webpage from your Kickresume resume.
  • Choose a template. Kickresume offers 1 free template and 7 premium templates designed by graphic designers and HR experts.
  • Edit. You can now make adjustments and edit the content of the website. Kickresume lets you do this in a very interactive and simple way.
  • Design. You can also manually change aspects of the website, including background, fonts, and date formats.
  • Click publish. And it's done!

Check your CV before posting it.

Get your resume reviewed and improve your chances of getting a job.

Everyone can agree that posting just about anything online brings about certain risks.

Posting something so personal like a resume is no exception. And truthfully, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Here are a few helpful tips to make sure your information is safe:

  • Limit the contact information you offer. Make sure you don't post any sensitive information about yourself and your family. Under no circumstances share things like your home address, social security number, or your bank information.
  • Set up an email account specifically for your job hunt. This is a simple and neat way to separate private emails from the job hunting. It’ll also help you eliminate any scams or advertisements from flooding your personal account.
  • Be selective about where you post your resume. Look for reputable sites that offer a privacy policy. Make sure to adjust the settings on these sites to make your resume visible only to recruiters and employers.
  • Limit social media links. Yes, it’s pretty common to share your social media on resumes. However, think about whether that’s appropriate for the job you want. And whether it’s really necessary to share it. If you have an account that resembles a portfolio of some sort, that’s, of course, different.
  • Remove your resume from the sites once you find a job. Once you find a job, it’s not longer necessary to keep the resume out there in the cloud for everyone to see.

In case the article didn’t cover something you were looking for, this section will answer 3 of the most frequently asked questions you might have about posting your resume online.

FAQ: Where to post a resume online

You should always check the website’s terms and conditions to see who has access to your resume. A credible website, such as those we suggest in this article, all have adjustable privacy settings. However, as a rule of thumb you should never post sensitive information such as your home address online.

While posting a resume online increases your chances of being contacted by a recruiter, you shouldn’t stop pro-actively applying.

Major job boards we list in this article provide you with options to adjust the privacy settings for your account, including the option to opt-out of advertisement emails. Another option can be to set up a temporary email address which you’ll use for the duration of your job search. That way you’ll have your personal emails and work-related emails nicely separated.

Here are the top 5 job sites to post a resume to get a job:

1. Indeed 2. Monster 3. CareerBuilder 4. Dice 5. LinkedIn

University career centers offer alumni a wealth of job resources even years after graduation. You can use your college career center for resume help, job leads, interview prep, and networking connections long after you’ve left school.

One way to leverage your career center is by posting your resume online. Career offices often maintain online portals specifically for students and graduates. Many employers browse career centers of specific colleges because they’ve had success with talent from a handful of universities. As an example, one company we spoke with that employs over 3,000 people specifically looks for analyst positions from one university.

Having your resume on your university career center can also open up opportunities for the university to promote you. Several alumni associations have groups on LinkedIn and Facebook. Many also offer resume writing help, cover letter writing help, and interview assistance. At the end of the day, the success rate might still depend on the reputation of your university and the type of employers coming to the university career center website to find candidates. If your skills and career trajectory match those employers, you’re probably going to get a lot better results than someone who doesn’t.

Every college and university has its own rules for uploading resumes. The process usually involves making an account with their system and uploading documents like resumes, cover letters, and letters of recommendation. Be sure to follow any posted rules about file sizes and types. Check your career center’s website for more details or reach out to a university career counselor for specifics.

  • Access to employers who are looking for candidates with your specific educational background
  • Alumni referrals and informational interview leads

Employers and recruiters are increasingly turning to social media and online platforms to find new hires. Over 90% of employers use social media to source candidates. By posting your resume online, you ensure that your information gets in front of the right people at the right time. In addition, uploading your resume to job sites and networks:

  • Gives you access to advanced job site tools like keyword matching and resume review
  • Offers an opportunity to synch your professional brand across multiple sites
  • Makes it easier to apply for open positions quickly

Most sites make it easy to upload your resume and use it to search for jobs and access insights via their proprietary tools. But that doesn’t mean that you should post your resume on every site that allows you to do so.

To maximize your efforts:

  • Stick to reputable sites with solid ratings on review sites like Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot.
  • Look for sites with a wide reach and partnership network like ZipRecruiter and Indeed.
  • Keep your resume confidential unless you’re unemployed.

Posting your resume on the right job search sites and professional social networks will ensure that your information gets in front of the right recruiters, hiring managers, and employers. It will also speed up your job search process by making it easier to use online job applications and other tools.

Ready to take your job search to the next level? Upload your resume to ZipRecruiter and connect with employers in your area.

Marsha Hebert

Finding and using the best resume posting sites is an efficient and effective job search strategy.

Most experts agree that you should post your resume to an online resume-posting website to increase your chances of getting noticed by employers and recruiters. However, it can be hard to know exactly which resume-posting site to use – without a little help, that is.

Well, you've come to the right place! In this article, you'll learn where to post your resume to ensure the highest visibility to aid your job search.

Here is our list of the best resume posting sites to use, followed by a quick description of how to upload your resume to each one. Almost all are free – and they're all easy to use:

  • CareerBuilder
  • ZipRecruiter
  • College Recruiter
  • CollegeGrad.com
  • Specific Industry Sites

The right resume-posting website for you

Everyone's circumstances are different, so as you go through the list of where to post your resume, be sure that what the resume-posting site has to offer will benefit you personally. Simply sticking your resume everywhere you can is a phenomenal waste of time – be picky, look for niche job boards, and use industry-specific sites when you can.

With that said, let's get into the list of top sites for posting your resume and enhancing your job search.

The most popular resume-posting sites

The first thing that probably pops into your head when you hear about where to post your resume is sites like Indeed, CareerBuilder, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter, and LinkedIn. Yes! You should absolutely post your resume to these sites. They're well-known and widely used, so you really can't go wrong.

1. Indeed

Indeed is not only the largest job board in the United States but also the largest job board globally, with over 200 million visitors each month. So, if you plan to post to only one site, post here for maximum exposure.

First, you need to create your individual Indeed account. Then, you can upload your resume .

2. CareerBuilder

For over twenty years, CareerBuilder's website clearly states its objective: “Each day, we help job seekers and companies connect, giving people a chance to find their calling and many employers a chance to find and hire top talent to help grow their business.” Over 100 million jobs are posted on CareerBuilder, so don't wait.

This link takes you to their jobs page, where you can upload your resume.

3. Glassdoor

Glassdoor is unique because not only can you post your resume, but you can read what present and past employees think of their company and look at current salary data for your specific job or career interests.

Glassdoor requires you to sign in. Once you create your login, you can upload your resume and complete a profile for employers to see.

4. ZipRecruiter

While posting your resume here takes a few extra steps, it's worth it to be seen by the thousands of employers who use it.

Once you create your ZipRecruiter account and sign in, click on the “Profile” link at the top right. You'll see options to add information and upload your resume. If you keep scrolling, you'll find more information about inputting your information to create a specific “online resume.”

5. LinkedIn

Your LinkedIn profile should be written so that it complements your resume. On top of writing a compelling profile, you can also upload your ATS-friendly resume into the “ Resumes and application data ” section. The great news is that LinkedIn makes it really simple to upload your resume. Simply go to the “Resumes and application data” page and click “upload.”

From there, you can access the resume you've uploaded when you apply for jobs through LinkedIn's website.

Where to post your resume if you want a government job

Whether you want a federal, state, or local government job, your best bet is to post your resume on a database that's separate from the most popular job boards. You'd use sites like USAJOBS or your local municipal job board – just search 'job boards in my city.'

6. USAJOBS

If you want to work for the United States government in any capacity, your resume needs to be uploaded here to be seen by a wide range of government organizations.

Start by clicking the “Create Profile” button on the home page. Once you have a profile, you can upload your resume so it's visible to the various recruiters who use the site.

Where to post your resume if you're fresh out of college

Before you become an expert in your field, you have to be a beginner; therefore, you need to find entry-level positions so you can start climbing your particular career ladder. Don't worry; it's not as hard as you may think because there are resume-posting sites specifically geared toward people who have just graduated.

Here are a couple:

7. College Recruiter

While you should check your college website or placement office for help in finding the best resume posting sites to use, College Recruiter also helps recent graduates and current college students find their first job.

College Recruiter posts jobs from Fortune 1,000 companies, federal government agencies, and other employers looking to hire college-age or newly-graduated candidates.

8. CollegeGrad.com

This is arguably the best site for starting your career. In fact, one of the first things you'll see when you visit CollegeGrad.com is that they proclaim to be the '#1 Entry Level Job Site.' Here, you can search for jobs, get advice, and upload your resume. All you have to do is register for an account and get to work.

Where to post your resume if you want to work freelance

The world of working remotely has seen dramatic increases over the last few years. More people are deciding that going to a building every day just isn't for them. It can be scary leaving behind the world of brick-and-mortar jobs, but it's very doable!

You still need a compelling resume and you still want to upload it to some job boards. But, instead of using the most popular resume-posting sites, you'd use ones that are specifically designed to get freelancers the work they need.

For example:

9. FlexJobs

While the concept of freelancing may be gaining traction, freelance jobs have actually been around for quite some time. FlexJobs was created in 2007 and allows people to find remote, work-from-home, and hybrid roles. The site isn't free, though; it costs $2.95 for 14 days or $5.95 per month, depending on your needs. There is a 14-day guarantee that if you're unhappy, you can get your money back.

Where to post your resume if you want an industry-specific job

When you get some relevant experience under your belt or are trying to enter into a highly-targeted job search, it will serve you better to use an industry-specific job board. Doctors, lawyers, finance pros, and IT jobs can be tedious to find on sites like Indeed. So, your best bet is to use one of these:

10. Specific Industry Sites

There are  websites and job boards for a wide variety of specific industries. A quick online search will help you find the right one for you and show you how to post your resume. Here are a few sites to get you started:

  • Environmental Career Opportunities
  • eFinancialCareers
  • Healthcare Jobsite
  • Information Technology

Where to post your resume: Final thoughts

A few important things to remember before posting your resume:

Make sure that you have optimized your resume for the applicant tracking system (ATS) , which many companies use to scan through applicants.

Make sure your resume includes the right keywords for a specific job or industry so that a recruiter can find you and your resume can pass the ATS. You can find these keywords in the job description posted by the organization. What words are they repeating or emphasizing within their requirements?

Posting your resume to an online site really is one of the most efficient and effective job-search techniques to find your next great job. Also, as you visit these and other sites, keep an eye out for links to their free mobile apps to download. This allows you to check your job-search status from anywhere, anytime.

In an increasingly competitive job market, seeking the best resume writing services is vital. While individuals and businesses still offer those services, some job seekers use AI resources as a shortcut. In fact, according to a recent study by MIT’s Sloan School of Management, using AI to help with overall help with resumes increased hiring odds by up to 8%.

Resources like ChatGPT are growing in popularity to help generate resumes and cover letters outright. However, many job searchers know that while they can use AI to formulate a generic resume for free, it is a tool that cannot fully replace a specialized, personal touch from a long-time professional. In this round-up, we review our choices for the best resume writing services to recommend the option that can best aid you in your job search.

Best Overall: TopResume

Offers free resume reviews

60-day interview guarantee

Able to customize resumes by industry

2x more interviews or will rewrite resume for free

Limit of two revisions

Results might be disappointing if not willing to buy highest-priced package

TopResume is a popular service providing free critiques of existing resumes and a relatively low starting cost for a new and customized resume. The process works by first having you answer a detailed questionnaire and then matching you with an experienced professional knowledgeable of your industry who assists with customizing your resume accordingly. TopResume employs a network of 1,200 writers.

Your document gets carefully written to pass through applicant tracking systems, or ATS, to provide the best chance of getting your documents in front of a hiring manager and increasing your interview odds. In addition to resumes, TopResume also writes cover letters and LinkedIn biographies. You should expect your first draft back within a week. TopResume offers a maximum of two rewrites.

While TopResume aims to get things right the first time, the service provides up to two rewrites if you aren’t satisfied with the result; while this is a good start, those in highly specialized or less common fields may not have access to as wide a pool of experts as others. If you are willing to pay top dollar for the most expensive plan, your access to writers with specialist knowledge will likely expand.

TopResume’s pricing plans work for professionals at all levels, making it the ideal service for the broadest range of job searchers.

  • Pricing: Service starts at $149.
  • Turnaround time: Average of seven to ten days; possible 48-hour window if you pay to expedite service.
  • Customization options: Resumes are created based on the information you share in a questionnaire; you then get paired with a resume writer knowledgeable about your industry.
  • Writer qualifications: TopResume works with United States-based writers who have experience in human resources, career coaching, recruiting, and job search strategies.
  • Customer support: Support is available by submitting a contact form on the website, emailing [email protected], or calling 1-800-604-1929 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST.
  • Additional services: TopResume also provides cover letters and LinkedIn page biographies. Elite Executive Priority Package customers also get interview prep sessions.

Best Budget: TheMuse

Free resume templates and samples

Coaching is available for as low as $56

Options for all career levels

Job board with positions across various industries

Not a straightforward resume writing service

Slightly longer turnaround window than alternatives

No refunds for final resume or cover letter

TheMuse may primarily be known for sharing available jobs across multiple industries, but it is also a coaching and mentorship resource for job seekers. You not only have the chance to get your existing resume rewritten, but you can chat with a coaching professional by phone or Skype for 30 minutes; if unsatisfied, you get at least one round of edits.

In addition to tailored resumes, TheMuse provides coaching sessions, updated LinkedIn bios, and more. The service offers a combination of services meant to fit every budget and level of need. It’s easy to select only the features you need and avoid overpaying.

Although TheMuse provides valuable resume writing services, it does emphasize its coaching services over its resume and cover letter resources. TheMuse also works to update your existing documents instead of aiming to provide a resume built from scratch. If you already have a good foundation to work from, these services can be very useful for polish, but you may want to consider another service on this list if you are looking to start from the ground up.

Also be aware that you must be mindful of any errors in the draft as, aside from correcting spelling and grammar, no refunds get issued for final resumes or cover letters. You may be entitled to a single rewrite or unlimited rewrites depending on the service package you select. However, if you are simply displeased with the final version of the product for non-grammatical reasons, then it’s unlikely a refund will get issued.

  • Pricing: Packages with resume rewrites start at $139.
  • Turnaround time: Turnaround is about 7 to 14 business days.
  • Customization options: Resumes are tailored to your specific needs and industry.
  • Writer qualifications: Service tiers are divided based on the level of experience. Those at the “mentor” level have a few years of relevant experience, while master coaches have the most experience working with senior-level professionals.
  • Customer support: TheMuse website has a chat tool and a support ticket system; you can also email [email protected].
  • Additional services: Job board postings, career coaching, cover letters, LinkedIn profile updates, interview preparations.

Fastest Turnaround Time: Craft Resumes

Free resume review

Writes resumes and CVs

Affiliated with the NRWA and PARWCC

Relatively fast turnaround

Packages available for professionals range from entry to executive-level

Price listings could be more precise

Possible grammar issues due to language barrier

Craft Resumes is an internationally-based resume writing service with a team dedicated to assisting jobseekers worldwide. In addition to resumes and CVs, you can receive a custom cover letter, thank you note, and LinkedIn page. Additionally, you can order career coaching and receive round-the-clock support from team members. Its pricing ranges from about $139 to $630, making it suitable for job hunters of all economic backgrounds.

Craft Resumes offers one of the fastest turnaround windows we could find when researching resume writing services. You should receive your first draft within a day of requesting service, and the process takes about five days on average. If you need a new resume fast, this resume writing service could be your best bet.

One major caveat for native English speakers is that Craft Resumes often employs resume writers who are not; this means there is a potential for language barriers and miscommunications. Some customers have complained of this previously. Even so, most customers tend to be satisfied with the work provided by this company. Craft Resumes works with people worldwide, so they are ideal for people seeking employment outside of North America.

  • Pricing: Service packages start at $139.
  • Turnaround time: Possibility of getting your first draft back within 24 hours, though the average window is about five days.
  • Customization options: Craft Resumes writers create resumes from scratch, tailored to each specific customer's needs.
  • Writer qualifications: Craft Resumes states that it is associated with the NWRA and PARWCC. It also shares profiles of its writers and coaches, detailing their accomplishments and levels of expertise.
  • Customer support: If you need support, you can open the live chat on the website, email [email protected], or call 1-888-385-3312; the line is open Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. PST.
  • Additional services: In addition to resumes, Craft Resumes also writes cover letters, follow-up notes, and thank you letters. The service also creates LinkedIn profiles and provides career coaching.

Best for Executives: Let’s Eat, Grandma

30-minute consultations

Completely customized resume

Free resume critique

Special executive-level concierge service

Very expensive compared to alternate services

Limit of rewrites unless you buy most expensive package

Let’s Eat, Grandma, sometimes called LEG, is one of the leading resume writing services available, though best suited for jobseekers with a more generous budget. Though it might be more expensive than some alternatives, its Executive Concierge Package is formulated and streamlined toward supporting the most senior-level members of the workforce who are looking to navigate from one role to the next.

If you want an executive-level resume writing service and experience, then Let’s Eat, Grandma is perhaps the most suitable option. That said, this company may not be the best fit if you are closer to entry-level or have a restricted budget. Let’s Eat Grandma’s main selling point is that it is not a budget resume writing service and is best suited for those seeking a premium, expert-level experience. If quality and expertise are your main concerns, and budget is not a primary consideration, then there’s a good chance Let’s Eat, Grandma represents good value for the money.

  • Pricing: Packages start at $439.
  • Turnaround time: Standard turnaround time is ten days for first drafts and an additional seven days for up to two revision requests. It is possible to get your request expedited, but there will be an added fee, and you need to reach out directly.
  • Customization options: Resumes are tailored to each customer.
  • Writer qualifications: Each writer undergoes an extensive testing process to determine their qualifications for the role. Afterward, they participate in a four-week onboarding process with ongoing support to ensure they continue to produce resumes that meet industry standards.
  • Customer support: Support is available via email, [email protected] for general support, and [email protected] for customers who purchased the Executive Concierge Service. Let’s Eat, Grandma recommends contacting your writer directly with questions or concerns before submitting a general support request.
  • Additional services: Cover letters, LinkedIn profile rewrites, hour-long career coaching sessions, access to a dedicated writer (for executives) and a representative.

Best for Federal Government Jobs: Federal Resume USA

Plans are specifically available for those seeking government jobs

Also provides resume services for military spouses

Plan options for veterans

Range of affordable plan options

Website is a bit dated

Payment plans and pricing a little confusing

Federal Resume USA is a resume writing service that is specifically tailored towards supporting those seeking government and military positions. It differs from practically every other resume writing business reviewed in that it is primarily government-focused. Federal Resume USA works with customers trying to obtain a government job or who are transferring away from federal and military roles and need a civilian or private sector-friendly resume. The pricing varies from around $100 for a critique to $300 for resumes tailored toward GS-14, GS-15, and SES PO positions, putting the pricing plans within the budget of most potential customers.

Though Federal Resume USA may be a service that is ideal for government job seekers, it is hard to ignore how dated the website is. It can be hard to distinguish one pricing plan from the next, raising the risk of customers accidentally opting for the wrong plan. Though the pages lack a modern charm, the service is well-suited to customers who want writers specifically familiar with creating resumes for federal government and military jobs.

  • Pricing: As low as $99.95 (for resume critiquing)
  • Turnaround time: Between three and five days; offers same-day “rush order” service.
  • Customization options: Can convert federal military resume to civilian or private sector resume.
  • Writer qualifications: Certified professional writers who have worked with more than 800,000 clients.
  • Customer support: You can contact customer service by phone or by emailing [email protected].
  • Additional services: Besides critiquing and writing resumes, the service also provides cover letters and thank you letters.

Best Suited For Career Changes: ResumeSpice

Creates resumes for a broad range of industries

Offers outplacement services to companies

DISC assessment to assist in navigating career path

Expensive resume service plans

No option to just get a resume written up

No clear refund policy

If you are looking to make a career change or need outplacement assistance, ResumeSpice is a leading resource for job hunters either making a change or preparing to move on from a current position. The process varies depending on the exact services you choose. For resumes, you select your preferred package; you can also choose to add other items, such as a cover letter.

After making your purchase, you should get an email from ResumeSpice and complete a quick questionnaire; the email also includes a link to schedule a consultation. Following a phone call with your resume writer, where you further explain your career goals and further expand on your questionnaire, the writer will get to work on your resume. ResumeSpice shares that first drafts are usually completed within two business days.

If you aren’t satisfied with the final product, ResumeSpice will rewrite your resume at no additional cost. The brand will also rework your resume if you fail to get a single interview within 60 days of working with them. While this may be agreeable to some customers, getting a refund appears difficult if you aren’t completely happy with the service.

  • Pricing: Entry-level resumes start at $479.
  • Turnaround time: First draft within two business days.
  • Customization options: Get a personalized resume based on the information you provide in the questionnaire and a one-on-one interview with your resume writer.

The Bottom Line

Resume writing services remain a valuable resource for job hunting, whether you are unemployed or presently employed and seeking a move elsewhere. For those lacking resume writing experience, these services can help you connect with someone able to take your work experience or accomplishments and present them in a streamlined manner while representing your best qualities.

Unlike utilizing AI alone, working with a person or team of people allows you to prep for interviews, acknowledge and work on any professional setbacks, and get used to comfortably collaborating with other people. The best resumes go beyond SEO and keywords – they empower you to self-advocate. The best resume writing services empower and coach you in ways only possible when humans are involved.

Things To Consider When Looking for Resume Writing Services

Hiring the best possible resume writing service comes down to a core group of considerations, each contributing to the increased odds of landing your ideal job. Here’s what to look for in a great service.

Experience level and writer certifications: You should aim to work with a writer with at least a few years of resume writing experience. Be sure to look for a resume writing service that is open about its writer’s qualifications and willing to showcase its team members.

Be wary of businesses that make lofty, general claims without any verifiable output or customer testimonials. As Sarah Johnston, expert resume writer and owner of Briefcase Coach, notes, “Reviews can be faked, and follower count is not a direct correlation of quality of service.” Popularity alone is not always enough to indicate future satisfaction. Johnston recommends a closer look at the process and an eye toward “how the company is extracting your career narrative.”

In addition to considering resume writing experience, opting for certified resume writers is also best for increasing your odds of getting a good result. Certifications through the National Resume Writer’s Association (NRWA) or the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC) are the most widely sought and respected. If you are seeking a verified resume writing professional or service, check to see if they are certified through these or similarly reputable organizations.

Pricing and value for the money: Consider everything that’s provided as part of the service when comparing plans or getting a quote. Are you only getting a resume written, or will you also receive a cover letter? Will you be speaking to someone over the phone or via video conferencing? The more features that come with the service, the more you can expect the price to rise. That said, receiving a valuable series of services that will strongly assist you in finding a new job should be considered good value for the money.

Entry-level jobseekers with a small budget may be more concerned with affordability, sticking to plans that provide just the necessities. However, a senior employee seeking an executive-level role will more likely seek higher-tier premium packages that offer far more than a well-written resume. Good value for money here will include high-caliber coaching, extensive interview preparation, and ensuring their resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile are all flawless.

It is a good idea to aim for the best quality service you can afford, instead of prioritizing services strictly by which ones cost the least.

Combines AI with human expertise: While some services think of AI as something that could usurp their customer base, it has the strong potential to be a reliable resume-writing tool when combined with an organization’s pre-existing expertise and skill. Says Johnston, “AI can shorten the writing time, which, as a result, should decrease the cost of service.” As such, she says it makes sense for more price-conscious consumers to opt for a company that leverages AI.

Still, when it comes to AI, there should be a balance. For instance, some websites rely entirely on artificial intelligence or automation to construct a resume. You would input all the relevant information and generate a document. While that may be fast and convenient, there’s always the risk that you get left with something generic that doesn’t highlight your unique qualities as an employee or contractor. By working with a resume writing service, you are more likely to be paired with an expert who will showcase your best qualities.

Turnaround time: The turnaround period refers to how long it typically takes a service to receive your questionnaire, existing resume, or instructions and then return a first draft. The average time among top-tier resume writing services is typically 7 to 10 business days; some brands will skew slightly faster or slower depending on their experience, the type of resume work requested, or their workload. In some cases, especially if you only need a critique or a single-page resume, you might come across a service offering a window of one or two days.

Please note that turnaround time isn’t strictly about how fast you can get a draft back; it also demonstrates how thorough a service is with your case. When considering a resume writing business, you should know how long it should take to get back a first draft and how long it should take to complete any necessary revisions. If you are in a hurry, check to see if the resume writing service will expedite the process, but be prepared to pay an extra fee in exchange for getting your documents back within a notably shorter window.

Customization and personal approach: There are resume writing services that use the same formatting and font for virtually every resume they create, which could be an issue if your goal is to stand out. Having a resume that is visually forgettable and features the same jargon and keywords as everyone else’s will ultimately work against your chances of getting selected for a role.

To avoid falling behind, you should seek out a resume writing service that provides custom resumes and takes a personal yet professional approach to formulating your documents. For example, Johnston shared that she and her team spend an average of 15 hours on each executive resume. “The whole goal of a resume is to demonstrate to the reader that you, as the candidate, are the solution to their pain points.” Johnston notes that jobseekers have a habit of trying to tell a “kitchen sink” story with their resumes, throwing in everything without much regard to how naturally items fit. As Johnston puts it, “[Resume writers] help refine their messaging, so it resonates with their target audience.”

How We Chose the Best Resume Writing Services

At U.S. News 360 Reviews, our writers and editors combined consultations with industry experts, including a former recruiter and executive-level resume writer, with in-depth research to curate a list of high-quality resume writing services. We formulated a methodology based on the most relevant features that jobseekers often look to when deciding on a reliable resume writing service.

We considered affordability and value for the money, turnaround time, customization, and even what services are best according to where one finds oneself in their career path. With these features in mind, we narrowed our list down according to the resume writing services we felt best fit each category and so are most suited to your specific needs.

WHY SHOULD YOU TRUST US?

Our contributors and editors each have years of experience with product research and testing and are often directly knowledgeable of the topics they write for us. For instance, Toni Matthews-El, the writer of this article, has years of experience drafting resumes and cover letters. She not only wrote and critiqued resumes for numerous clients, but she also earned a professional branding certification through Randstad RiseSmart.

Even if writing your own resume or using an AI-based generator saves money, there’s a good chance there are crucial qualities you may fail to include because you don’t think of them as essential or feel awkward promoting your achievements. As Johnston notes, “The majority of people are quite terrible at tooting their own horn. It truly helps to have an external party unearth your story. “

A high-quality resume writing service is staffed by professionals who’ve spent years polishing professional careers to achieve the highest luster so your resume shines when placed in front of a hiring manager. And as competition for roles tightens, it will take more than the right keywords to impress. Many top resume writing services also provide interview preparation and one-on-one coaching.

Finding an affordable resume writing service that provides a low-cost first draft and at least one rewrite is very easy. While it is tempting to go the free route to save money whenever possible, premium resumes and cover letters help you put your best foot forward in the job market.

If you are worried about not getting the best value for the money, check confirmed reviews of past customers. You should also ensure the service has a money-back guarantee, draft rewrites, and is willing to provide refunds to unhappy customers.

Whether resume writing services help with cover letters usually depends on your purchase package. In researching this article, the author found that some services had plans that only created or updated resumes and other upgraded packages that handled both. Some services bundled resumes and cover letters, while others offered the items separately. Because many companies often request a cover letter with a resume, it is generally a good idea to combine both items when possible.

If you opt for freeware or a resume generator, then there is a good chance your resume is the result of automation or AI rather than an actual person’s work. If you work with a reputable writing service, then there is almost always at least one confirmed human behind the process, especially if the writer or coach emails you directly to begin putting the resume together.

It is important to note that top-tier resume services are increasingly using AI as part of the writing process, which isn’t something to automatically be afraid of. “If you are a price-conscious consumer,” says Johnston. “It might make sense for you to use a company that leverages AI. AI can shorten the writing time, which as a result, should decrease the cost of service.”

Johnston recommends seeking resume writing services that are transparent regarding how much AI figures into the overall process. “My company does not use AI for our document creation. I have concerns over data privacy and limited control over content. “

If you don’t like the resume the service writes for you, make a note of everything you have an issue with. Are there numerous spelling and grammatical errors? Highlight them and ask that they be corrected.

If it is a matter of incomplete or incorrect professional information, or dissatisfaction with the formatting, make detailed notes and ask if the writer can make changes so that the final product will be in line with your preferences. It is important to be aware of how many rewrites you are entitled to and to ensure that you make every desired change with the allotted drafts; a final version may not be entitled to the rewrites you desire.

If the problems involve poor spelling and grammar, you might be entitled to a refund or extra rewrite for an otherwise final draft. It is best to check the resume writing service’s FAQs or terms of service to know exactly what you are entitled to. If it is a matter of preference, there is a chance that refunds aren’t available. If that’s the case, your best recourse is to note everything you didn’t like in the first draft and work carefully with the writer to get it to align with your preferred version.

About Dragon Careers

Dragon Careers was created by a group of executive recruiters that understand what employers are looking for in a candidate. In business for over 20 years reviewing thousands of candidates’ resumes and coaching countless clients on their careers, we realized that the average candidate does not properly convey the information necessary to pique the interest of recruiters and employers.

Even seasoned executives sometimes lack the inside knowledge of how the candidate sourcing and selection process works, leaving some of the top candidates left unseen. Today’s top employers utilize new technology to help sort through thousands of resumes. Software called application tracking software uses algorithms and sophisticated sorting processes to eliminate all but the top resumes in the system. This can in many cases eliminate a strong candidate simply because their resume didn’t have the right key words and was formatted in such a way that the software did not pick up the proper information.

This was the most amazing transformation of my résumé and I am 100% delighted with my new & improved, professional looking resume. The resume writer was fantastic and the turn around time was excellent. I would highly recommend Dragon resume services and have purchased another one as a gift for my husband, who also just graduated with his Masters degree and needs a professional resume.

Indeed

Advanced search function

Job seeker profiles, why is indeed the best.

Indeed offers an array of features for job seekers and employers alike. If you’re looking for your next dream role, you’ll benefit from search features that let you look up jobs according to title, keyword, company or location. You can also post your resume, read company reviews and find salaries. Based on your activity on Indeed, you’ll also be shown relevant jobs. You can also easily access recent searches so you don’t have to start the job hunt again from scratch.

Meanwhile, employers can not only post jobs but also take advantage of job post optimization features to ensure their listings are seen by the right candidates. There is also the option to pay extra to promote jobs through ads. However, you can still use Indeed to post jobs for free. Overall, this platform offers excellent functionality for employers and employees alike.

Pros and cons

  • Detailed search features plus saved searches for jobseekers.
  • Suggests relevant jobs based on recent activity.
  • Job posting optimization for employers.
  • Limited applicant tracking system (ATS) integrations.
  • Limited customer support options.
  • Job promotion costs extra.

Most in-depth information about employers

Glassdoor

Why is Glassdoor the best?

Glassdoor is known for giving job seekers a look behind the curtain of major companies. The platform includes company reviews and salary information from real-world employees. It’s even been suggested that Glassdoor reviews have the power to impact a company’s reputation, and there are services that exist solely to take down bad reviews. If you’re looking for honest insider information, it’s a promising prospect.

In general, Glassdoor checks the boxes of a great job search platform. You can search according to specific search criteria, like location and job title, create a profile and save searches. Employers can post company information and jobs for free. For a fee, an employer can enhance its content with branding, analytics insights and competitive benchmarking.

  • Comprehensive company reviews.
  • Community for interacting with other professionals.
  • Manage and save job posts for later.
  • Limited ATS integrations for employers.
  • Advanced job posting features only available for a fee.

Best for students

Handshake

Why is Handshake the best?

Handshake is a student-focused job platform that’s ideal for people looking for their first job. You can create a profile to connect with other students, alumni and recruiters. The platform also highlights events specifically for young professionals, including resume workshops, networking sessions and career fairs. You can also get recommendations for events and opportunities based on your interests.

For employers, Handshake is an ideal platform for finding eager early-stage professionals. Beyond simply posting jobs, you can also message people directly and reach individuals through events. Handshake also has excellent integrations with applicant tracking systems like Greenhouse and Workday. Handshake isn’t geared toward all job seekers, but for students and recent graduates, it’s a great option to consider.

  • Includes events as a means of connecting.
  • User-friendly mobile app.
  • Convenient ATS integrations (Greenhouse, Workday, etc.).
  • Focused primarily on new graduates; not suitable for those with more experience.
  • No job post optimization or ads available.
  • Customer service limited to knowledge base and chat.

Easiest to use

Simplyhired.

SimplyHired

Why is SimplyHired the best?

Simply Hired is one of the more basic providers we looked at. This is the only tool that functions on a desktop only. If you’re looking for something straightforward without the bells and whistles, it might just do the trick. Job seekers can search for jobs by title, skill set, company or location. It’s also possible to upload a resume and save recent searches.

Employers can post jobs for free, gaining broad reach thanks to SimplyHired’s partnership with Indeed. If you’re willing to spend some money, you can also sponsor a job post for greater visibility. The candidate management tool in the employer dashboard also gives easy oversight of your HR funnel. Ultimately, SimplyHired is straightforward and easy to use.

  • Ability to save job seeker listings.
  • Partnered with Indeed for greater reach.
  • Simple employer dashboard with candidate management.
  • No mobile app.
  • Limited search features for job seekers.
  • No job post analytics for employers.

Outstanding thought leadership features

LinkedIn

Why is LinkedIn the best?

A mix between a social media platform and a job posting site, LinkedIn has features that help it stand out as a professional networking tool. It’s possible to connect with other professionals as well as companies, and you can message people directly. Job seekers can use their profiles to showcase their experience and expertise and also demonstrate their thought leadership by sharing posts. For self-employed individuals, the combination of networking and job scouting is appealing.

Companies that are hiring can post jobs on LinkedIn for free. However, for more advanced features, you may want to upgrade from the free plan. For example, with a paid plan, employers can search candidates on LinkedIn using more detailed search features, such as focusing on those who are “Open to work.”

  • Social network component enhances the ability to make connections.
  • Ability to post blogs and other media to amplify thought leadership.
  • Advanced job search features available only for a price.
  • Active job posts are limited.
  • Not specifically focused on matching employers and employees, but more on networking in general.

Best for employers

Monster

Why is Monster the best?

Monster has limited search features for candidates, focusing on location, keyword and title. While the platform covers the basics for job seekers, like being able to upload a resume and conduct salary searches, we found Monster more user-friendly for employers in general. For example, Monster has more than 500 job description templates to help employers write the perfect job ad according to their field and the position to be filled.

The platform has a comprehensive resource center (including webinars) covering everything from diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to recruiting strategies. Employers can also benefit from guidance on workforce management and planning, details about the latest hiring trends and small business hiring how-to guides.

  • Excellent resources for employers, including webinars.
  • More than 500 job posting templates for employers.
  • International verticals available.
  • Limited search functionality for job seekers.
  • No community forum for job seekers.
  • Customer support is limited to a knowledge base and email.

Best free job posting sites comparison

Methodology

We extensively research the key competitors within an industry to determine the best products and services for your business. Our experts identify the factors that matter most to business owners, including pricing, features and customer support, to ensure that our recommendations offer well-rounded products that will meet the needs of various small businesses.

We collect extensive data to narrow our best list to reputable, easy-to-use products with stand-out features at a reasonable price point. And we look at user reviews to ensure that business owners like you are satisfied with our top picks’ services. We use the same rubric to assess companies within a particular space so you can confidently follow our blueprint to the best free job posting sites in 2024.

Expert score (10%): With our expert score, we consider everything about free job posting sites, including its features (2.5%), popularity (2.5%), the value you receive for your money (2.5%) and how easy it is to learn and use (2.5%). We consider where certain free job posting sites stands out and a company’s reputation.

Value (14%): We determine the value of free job posting sites with small businesses in mind. Will this software provide your company with the best value for your money? We look at how many users can use the job search site, which could be an important factor in choosing a free job posting site. If you own a small business, you might need an account for yourself and someone who helps you with job postings. We also look at how many active job postings are allowed, if there is a flat fee per job posting and if a company only charges you per hire made through its platform.

Features (66%): Small businesses will need to find a free job posting site that is not only within their budget but also has the features they need. Your company might need advanced search features or AI features to match job seekers with jobs they are most qualified for. It could also be helpful if the site allows job applicants to create a profile, save their job documents, save specific searches and create alerts for specific job titles. This can help you find the best employee for your open position as possible. Other features to think about could be the availability of a mobile app, if a job seeker can see reviews of your company, if the company offers advertising boosts and if you have the ability to see job post analytics.

Service and support (10%): When running a business, having access to quality customer service is essential. When looking at free job posting sites, we made note of the different ways a business could contact customer service. It is important to have access to 24/7 customer support, preferably with a live human agent. This can help you solve problems more efficiently as a business owner, making it easier to run your business. Even if a company doesn’t have 24/7 customer service, it should at least offer self-help knowledge centers where small business owners can easily find answers to commonly asked questions.

What is a free job posting site and how does it work?

Job posting sites connect employers and employees, allowing companies to find workers to fill roles. The business can create a job posting with essential details, such as educational requirements and years of experience needed. Job seekers can then view posts and see if they meet the criteria. If so, they can apply for the role in question. Some job posting sites charge users, while others are free.

Benefits of free job posting sites

Free job posting sites can benefit employers and employees alike. The fact that these sites are free means a low barrier to entry, as anyone can access these platforms without having to pay. Here are some of the other advantages of these online platforms:

  • Broad reach: Job posting sites help improve job posting visibility in various ways. For example, the platform may publish the job posting on its website, on its mobile app and on partner sites.
  • Simplified searching: Websites make it easier for employers and employees to connect through detailed search options. For example, organizations can search for candidates based on criteria like skills, location, industry and experience.
  • Improved employer-employee matching: Some job sites offer additional tools to help ensure employers and employees are well-matched. For example, businesses can use skill assessments and screening questions, including them in job posts to ensure they are attracting qualified candidates.

Who uses free job posting sites?

Free job posting sites can be used by companies looking for employees and by individuals looking for jobs. An organization may use a job posting site to fill a role by advertising a position then soliciting applications and filtering applications according to criteria like education and experience. A job searcher may use a free job posting site to research potential employers and submit applications for fitting roles.

How to choose the best free job posting site

If you’re new to job posting sites, you may not know what to look for in a platform. We’ve broken down the basics below, addressing both the must-have features and the nice-to-have add-ons and extras.

Key features to look for

When comparing free job posting sites, there are a few key criteria to look out for. In our research, we’ve considered factors that matter for both job seekers and employers. Here’s what we found:

  • Search features: Job search features make it faster and easier for job seekers to look up roles that fit their needs. For instance, they can search for roles according to location, employment type or keyword.
  • Saved searches for job seekers: Most job seekers have certain criteria they’re looking for in a job, like a specific location or experience level. By saving searches, you can avoid having to adjust the search criteria every time you log in.
  • Job applicant profiles: Job seeker profiles may include information like a person’s name, title, company, location and job preferences (for example, if they are open to working remotely). Such profiles speed up the application process and allow companies to scout potential employees.
  • Alerts for job applicants: Instead of having to visit the job posting site every day, alerts allow job applicants to receive a notification when a fitting job becomes available. This boosts efficiency and ensures no interesting jobs slip through the cracks.
  • Advertising boosts for employers: Employers looking for qualified candidates will want to make sure their job posts have a wider reach by using advertising. Such features generally cost extra (or are associated with a paid plan).
  • Job post analytics for employers: Companies can track how well their job posts are doing through analytics that track metrics like views and clicks. Cost analytics also help reveal if expenses, like promoted job ads, are worth it.

Add-ons and extras

Beyond the basics, there may be some additional features that job seekers and employers find useful in a job posting site. Although not 100% necessary, these perks may be advantageous:

  • Company reviews for job seekers: Company reviews help job seekers get a look behind the curtain, providing real-world feedback from actual employees. Job seekers can get insights into details like culture and values, diversity and inclusion, work/life balance, compensation, benefits and senior management.
  • ATS for employers: An applicant tracking system (ATS) helps companies stay on top of applications received for specific roles. Some job platforms allow organizations to integrate an ATS, while others do not.
  • AI functionality: Some job posting sites leverage AI to automatically match job seekers and organizations. The AI algorithm may take into account details like previous job searches and resume details to make matches.
  • Mobile app: A mobile app allows job seekers and employers to access the job platform from their mobile devices. Individuals can make sure they don’t miss any updates regarding potential professional matches, maximizing responsiveness.

How much does a free job posting site cost?

The job posting sites on this list all have one thing in common: They’re free! You don’t have to pay to use them as an employer or an employee. That said, some offer paid plans with additional features that may be useful. For example, Glassdoor’s premium plan offers perks like advanced job seeker insights and premium branded content, while Monster’s paid plan allows you to promote jobs, track applicants and message qualified potential employees.

How much will a job posting site cost if you upgrade from a free version? We compiled pricing data when possible, but some providers only provide personalized quotes on request. That said, we were able to get data from two providers on this list: Monster’s paid plan starts at $299, while LinkedIn has plans starting at $170. Ultimately, you don’t have to pay to use a job posting site unless you need or want the more advanced features.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

The best free job posting sites include advanced search features so job seekers can filter according to specific criteria. Meanwhile, employers should be able to search applicants according to details like years of experience and relevant skills. Job seekers can further benefit from the ability to create profiles, save job searches and set alerts. Employers can benefit from the options to advertise jobs and get job post analytics.

Free job posting sites make money from charging employers for job postings, selling premium subscriptions, displaying ads and offering premium services like personalized employer branding.

Paid subscription options (in addition to the freebie versions) with additional functionality are also one of the ways these companies make money. For example, while Monster has a free plan, it also has paid plans starting at $299 per month. These paid plans offer benefits like promoting unlimited jobs and inviting multiple team members to collaborate on a single Monster account.

Yes, it’s possible to create a job posting on LinkedIn for free. The platform also offers the option to pay to promote jobs. This helps companies reach more qualified candidates faster. According to LinkedIn, promoted jobs are shown at the top of search results and reach three times more qualified applicants on average.

Yes, it is possible to create a job posting on Indeed for free. A free job posting will appear on the platform’s general search results. It’s also possible to pay for sponsored job posts on Indeed.

A job post should include a job title, company name, description of roles and responsibilities, necessary skills, educational requirements and an overview of possible compensation and benefits. The job should also include logistical details, like contact information and where job seekers can submit applications.

In general, United States law doesn’t require employers to post job ads at all. However, there are some exceptions, for example, for federal contractors that are affected by the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA). Regulations for if and how long a job needs to be legally posted may vary in other countries.

From work devices to résumés: Resources to help you navigate a layoff

From tesla to amazon, more layoffs could be on the horizon. here’s how to prepare for your next interview..

resume posting help

Nearly four months into 2024, companies are still cutting costs. Tesla, Amazon and Apple are among the latest big companies to cut jobs. The near future could bring more.

Many employers are still downsizing because of overly optimistic projections, consumers’ changing habits, technological advances such as generative artificial intelligence , and macroeconomic pressures. Whether your job has been cut or you worry you could see a layoff soon, there are several things you can do to get a head start on your next steps. Job experts suggest that it’s never a bad idea to be prepared.

“These layoffs are being driven by a return of pre-pandemic employment levels,” said Brett House, a professor in the economics division at Columbia Business School.

When it comes to layoffs, most are hitting the tech and financial sectors, House said, with major employers such as Microsoft, Salesforce, Google and Meta slashing thousands of jobs within the past year. Tesla joined the group this week, announcing plans to cut more than 10 percent of its global workforce. Earlier this month, Amazon said it’s laying off hundreds of employees who work on its physical stores technology and sales and marketing teams in its cloud computing division. And for the first time since the pandemic, Apple is making its first big cut, laying off more than 600 workers in California.

The announcement comes after a slew of layoffs at the beginning of the year. Companies including Google, Amazon, Walmart, Morgan Stanley, Disney, Wall Street giant BlackRock and San Francisco-based gaming company Unity reduced head count within the first several weeks of the year.

Overall, the labor market is strong, and hiring has continued despite the cuts, House said. Layoffs will probably continue as companies adjust, but barring a major event, such as a recession, House expects the big cuts to die down later this year.

Don't use these 3 types of phrases in your resume, says ex-Google recruiter

thumbnail

Recruiters are busy people. They've got "typically about 20 to 30 positions open, truckloads of resumes they have to wade through and folks they have to meet and interview," says Simon Taylor , former Disney recruiter and author of the leadership book " Build Smart ."

It stands to reason if a resume has any red flags whatsoever, they'll move onto the next one immediately. When you're writing yours, you'll want to make sure it meets their criteria and doesn't give them a reason to pass on your candidacy.

Here are three phrases former Google recruiter and current CEO of salary data company FairComp , Nolan Church, recommends avoiding.

'Coordinated meetings with X'

To begin with, under each job title, avoid writing a list of tasks that you took at the job. "I don't give a s--- about your tasks," Church says.

The day-to-day duties of your job like emailing with your boss or creating your quarterly goals do not give a concrete sense of what you accomplished and how you helped the business move forward. "The one I see all the time that just blows my mind is 'coordinated meetings with X,'" Church says.

"There's literally no business impact for coordinating meetings," he says. Think, instead, of what you did that truly benefitted the business, like booking new clients or exceeding sales goals, and use specific numbers to illustrate it.

A 'word salad' of keywords

Career experts recommend using keywords from the job description to prove you meet the role's criteria. But many jobseekers go too far.

People tend to " have this word salad based off of what the [job description] says," says Church. If a marketing job calls for implementing strategic marketing, refining the company's messaging platforms and engaging stakeholders, for example, a jobseeker might wrongly include every one of those terms in one sentence.

Create a rule for yourself when you're writing the bullets under your job titles: "You're not allowed to use more than one keyword in a sentence," says Church.

Sentences that are more than '25 words'

In a similar vein, avoid run-on sentences.

"All of these sentences should be less than 25 words maximum," says Church. "Probably even shorter than that. Because the goal of a resume is for me to very quickly understand what you've done."

Harkening back to recruiters' time crunch, they'll likely have just "three-to-five seconds" to dedicate to your resume, Taylor previously told Make It . If the sentences describing your accomplishments are too long, they won't necessarily take the time to read them. By writing concise phrases, you're helping recruiters get to the punchline of your impact right away, instead of having to look for it among many words.

"Time is the enemy in life and is the enemy in business," says Church. "The faster that we can move, the faster that we can solve problems."

Ukrainian soldiers carry shells to fire at Russian positions on the front line, near the city of Bakhmut, in Ukraine's Donetsk region, on March 25. The outgunned and outnumbered Ukrainian troops have been struggling to halt Russian advances.

KYIV, Ukraine — Lawmaker Oleksandra Ustinova, who leads the Ukrainian parliament's committee on arms, spent months urging holdouts in the U.S. Congress to stop blocking nearly $61 billion in military and economic aid to her country.

She repeatedly warned them that Russian troops are advancing because Ukrainian soldiers are running low on ammunition and weapons.

Ustinova despaired that no one was listening. Then, on Saturday, the House of Representatives finally approved the aid package . The bill provides nearly $61 billion in assistance , including nearly $14 billion to help Ukraine buy advanced weapons systems and defense equipment and $13.7 billion for purchasing U.S. defense systems for Ukraine.

"I was literally crying," she says. "You cannot imagine how important it is for us. We had nothing to shoot with. Now there is a green light at the end of the corridor."

Here's what's in the House foreign aid bills

Here's what's in the House foreign aid bills

The vote came after Russian airstrikes hit several Ukrainian cities, killing dozens. The aid package is expected to clear the Senate. President Biden has said that the White House will move quickly to send weapons and equipment to Ukraine to "meet urgent battlefield needs ." Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has said that Russia is firing 10 times more artillery shells than Ukraine can and had warned that Ukraine could lose the war if the House did not approve the aid package.

Ukrainians are cheering the House vote, which will provide fresh supplies of artillery rounds and air defense missiles and also support the Ukrainian economy, which is badly suffering after more than two years of Russia's full-scale attacks on the country. But Ukraine's relief that it can fight to live another day is also mixed with uneasiness over future U.S. assistance.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., talks to reporters just after the House voted to approve $95 billion in foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel and other U.S. allies, at the Capitol on Saturday.

In a video address on Saturday, Zelenskyy thanked House Speaker Mike Johnson and appealed to the U.S. to keep supporting Ukraine in the future.

"America showed its leadership from the first days of the war," he said. "It is this kind of American leadership that is vital to the preservation of a rules-based international order."

Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian leaders often warn that Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine threatens Europe and the West, and that Ukrainian soldiers cannot hold back the Russians alone.

Valentyn Romaniuk, a 22-year-old soldier in Ukraine's Third Assault Brigade, saw this firsthand on the eastern frontline, where his unit was outgunned.

He lost his leg while fighting and is now learning to walk using a prosthesis.

"Delays in aid from our partners don't just cost lives, they cost limbs," says Romaniuk, as he rests on a park bench in Kyiv. "With all the dead and injured, that leaves far fewer troops defending Ukraine."

Ukraine's military cited delays in military funding as a reason troops had to ration ammunition. While Ukraine waited, its troops were forced to withdraw from Avdiivka, a strategic town in the east that Ukrainian forces had defended from Russian occupation for a decade. Emboldened, the Russian forces stepped up offensives along several points in eastern Ukraine.

Another soldier, Anton Tarasov, says a fresh infusion of military aid "is going to be a great spiritual push, a great emotional push. Because Russians, they were so encouraged all this time. And all their propaganda was saying [to Ukrainians], 'America has abandoned you, it's time to give up, otherwise we're going to kill you all.'"

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies that while the aid package will make America richer, it will further ruin Ukraine and lead to even more Ukrainian deaths. Peskov also condemned provisions in the bill that could allow the U.S. to use frozen Russian assets to assist Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian civilians say they have been besieged by Russian attacks as they waited for the House vote.

Ukraine's prime minister says, if passed, $60B U.S. aid package will be critical

Ukraine invasion — explained

Ukraine's prime minister says, if passed, $60b u.s. aid package will be critical.

"So many people are dying," says Khrystyna Naridzhenyan, 25, as she rings up a customer at her family's grocery store in Kyiv. "If there's any opportunity to stop this, we await it."

Her family's grocery store was badly damaged by shrapnel from recent Russian missile attacks. Above the store is a yellow banner with the inscription: "We Are Working."

She says the grocery might have been spared if Ukraine had stronger air defenses.

Ukraine doesn't have enough air defense systems to intercept all Russian missiles and drones. And those that get through are deadly.

The strikes have also caused enormous damage to infrastructure. The World Bank and the European Commission estimate that it will cost nearly $500 billion to repair and rebuild Ukraine. The bill keeps rising because the attacks keep happening.

Valentyna Maksymenko, 64, also works at the grocery store. She says Ukrainians will keep fighting, even if American support fades away.

"But it will be very difficult for us," she says. "Many of us will be destroyed."

At a park in Kyiv, Serhii Bykon, a 44-year-old IT specialist, is watching his young son run around a playground that was rebuilt after a Russian attack.

He says the U.S. aid package should give Ukraine a fighting chance — for now. But he isn't banking on U.S. assistance in the future, especially if the administration changes.

"There is so much uncertainty," he says. "That's why we cannot feel safe."

Trump criminal trial wraps for the day after opening statements and first witness

From CNN's Jeremy Herb, Lauren del Valle and Kara Scannell in the courthouse

Key takeaways from opening statements and the first witness in Trump's hush money trial

From CNN's Jeremy Herb, Lauren del Valle and Kara Scannell

Prosecutors and Trump’s attorneys delivered opening statements and the first witness — a former National Enquirer publisher — was called Monday in the historic and unprecedented criminal trial of a former president.

Each side got their first chance to lay out a theory of the case for jurors. Prosecutors told jurors that the reimbursement of hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels was part of a larger conspiracy to influence the 2016 presidential election.

The former president’s attorneys responded by telling the jury that Trump was innocent and not involved in the creation of the 34 business records he’s charged with falsifying. They also pointedly added that there’s “nothing wrong with trying to influence an election.”

Here are key takeaways from Monday:

  • Prosecutors say Trump schemed "to corrupt the 2016 presidential election": The district attorney’s office framed the case for jurors as illegal payments to try to influence illicitly influence the 2016 election that Trump then tried to illegally cover up by falsifying business records. Prosecutor Matthew Colangelo walked the jury through Trump’s efforts, along with Michael Cohen and former American Media Inc., chief David Pecker, to keep damaging information from coming to light during the 2016 election.
  • Defense says Donald Trump is innocent: Defense attorney Todd Blanche began his opening statement with a simple assertion: “Donald Trump is innocent.” Blanche told the jury that the story isn’t as simple as prosecutors laid out and argued that Trump was not involved with any of the business records he’s accused of falsifying beyond signing the checks. Blanche didn’t dispute the paper trail existed, but he argued to the jury there was nothing illegal about signing non-disclosure agreements — or trying to influence an election.
  • Tabloid publisher testifies first: Prosecutors called former AMI CEO David Pecker as the first witness in their case against Trump. He testified for less than 30 minutes Monday morning before the trial adjourned for the day. He’s expected to continue testifying Tuesday. Colangelo teed up the former tabloid publisher as a key player in Trump’s “catch and kill” scheme to control the public narrative about him ahead of the 2016 election.
  • Gag order hearing will lead off court on Tuesday: Before the trial resumes Tuesday, Judge Juan Merchan is holding a hearing on allegations that Trump violated the judge’s gag order barring discussion of witnesses. The district attorney’s office asked the judge to fine Trump $1,000 for each of several gag order violations leading up to and since the trial started. In addition to the fines, prosecutors want the judge to remind Trump he could be imprisoned if he continues to disobey the order.
  • Trump was thinking about the $175 million bond hearing down the street: Meanwhile, other lawyers for Trump were in a courtroom a block away arguing over the legitimacy of the $175 million bond Trump posted to appeal the judgment in his civil fraud trial. Trump, who could not attend the civil hearing because he’s required to attend each day of the criminal trial, railed against Attorney General Letitia James.

Fact check: Trump falsely claims Michael Cohen’s crimes "had nothing to do with me"

From CNN’s Daniel Dale

Speaking to reporters Monday after opening statements in his criminal trial in Manhattan, former President Donald Trump declared that the crimes committed by his former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen “had nothing to do with me.”

Cohen is expected to be a key  witness for the prosecution . Trump said: “The things he got in trouble for were things that had nothing to do with me. He got in trouble; he went to jail. This has nothing to do with me. This had to do with the taxicab company that he owned, which is just something he owned – and medallions and borrowing money and a lot of things – but it had nothing to do with me.”

Facts First:  Trump’s claim that Cohen’s prison sentence “had nothing to do with me” is false. Cohen’s three-year sentence in 2018 was for  multiple crimes , some of which were directly related to Trump. Most notably, Cohen was sentenced for  campaign finance offenses   connected to a hush money scheme  during the 2016 presidential campaign to conceal Trump’s alleged extramarital relationships -- the same hush money scheme that is central to this prosecution against Trump. Cohen was  also sentenced to two months in prison , to run concurrently with the three-year sentence, for  lying to Congress in 2017 in relation to previous talks about the possibility of building a Trump Tower in Moscow, Russia , including about the  extent of Trump’s involvement in the aborted Moscow initiative  and about when in 2016 the discussions ended. (The discussions continued into June 2016, the month after Trump  became the presumptive Republican nominee , and did not conclude in January 2016 before the first votes were cast, as Cohen had claimed.)

Referring to Trump as “Individual-1,” Cohen  said  at the time of his 2018 guilty plea for making false statements to the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence: “I made these statements to be consistent with Individual-1’s political messaging and out of loyalty to Individual-1.” When Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to the campaign finance violations, he  said  he broke the law “in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office,” Trump.

David Pecker is an important witness in prosecutor's quest to prove criminal intent, legal analyst says

From CNN's Elise Hammond

This court sketch shows David Pecker testifying during former President Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial.

David Pecker will be back on the stand on Tuesday to continue testimony in the hush money trial against former President Donald Trump. Not only is he the first witness to answer questions from the prosecution, but he is also a critical piece of how the state is trying to prove criminal intent, one former federal prosecutor said.

Criminal intent means that “not just an act happened, but an act happened for a purpose,” said Elliot Williams, a CNN legal analyst. “The defendant did something wrong to carry out some criminal purpose.”

As the then-chairman of American Media Inc., which publishes the National Enquirer, Pecker was involved in numerous “catch-and-kill” schemes he orchestrated on behalf of Trump, and he allegedly helped broker the deal with adult film star Stormy Daniels which is at the center of  the case.

“It’s not just the catch-and-kill payments, but catch-and-kill payments for the purpose of concealing information from voters in the context of an election,” Williams explained, referring to the 2016 presidential election.

Williams said it’s likely that prosecutors will focus much of their questioning trying to uncover what was discussed in meetings between Pecker and Trump.

The question at the heart of the argument, Williams said, is if the payments were intended to conceal information from voters, “or was it just Donald Trump saying, ‘Well, you know, this is embarrassing to my wife and my kids, I really want to keep this hidden.’”

Read about the stages of Trump's criminal trial — and what they mean

From CNN's Lauren del Valle, Jhasua Razo and Gillian Roberts

Former President Donald Trump’s first criminal trial is expected to take six to eight weeks from start to finish.

This trial, related to a  hush money payment  to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016, is the first of  four ongoing criminal cases  that are expected to head to trial for the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee.

Now that opening statements are done, prosecutors are presenting trial evidence through witness testimony and exhibits. David Pecker, the ex-publisher of the National Enquirer, will resume testimony Tuesday.

Defense attorneys can cross examine the prosecution’s witnesses and typically aim to discredit their testimony. Witnesses’ responses are considered evidence, but not the questions posed by an attorney.

Michael Cohen jabs back at Trump's claim that Cohen's crimes have nothing to do with him

From CNN's Laura Dolan

In this October 2023 photo, Michael Cohen leaves for a break during the civil business fraud trial of former President Donald Trump at New York Supreme Court in New York.

Michael Cohen, who is expected to be a key witness in Donald Trump’s criminal trial, jabbed back at his former boss in response to comments Trump made about him outside the courtroom Monday.

Speaking to reporters in the courtroom hallway after court concluded, Trump said Cohen’s crimes have “nothing to do with me."

“He got in trouble, he went to jail. This has nothing to do with me,” said Trump. “This had to do with the taxicab company that he owned, which is just something he owned — and medallions and borrowing money.”

Shortly after those comments. Cohen posted on social media, “Hey Von ShitzInPantz … your attacks of me stink of desperation. We are all hoping that you take the stand in your defense.

Cohen, who is Trump’s former attorney, served time in federal prison after pleading guilty to breaking federal campaign laws when he facilitated the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, which is directly linked to the charges against Trump.  As for the taxi medallions that Trump referenced, Cohen was also sentenced for tax evasion related to a taxi medallion enterprise and lying to a bank in relation to a home loan.

Trump is under a gag order and was ordered by Judge Juan Merchan not to comment about any witnesses in the trial.

CNN's Daniel Dale contributed to this post.

Biden builds early advertising edge as Trump spends millions on legal fees

From CNN's David Wright

President Joe Biden and his allies have nearly tripled Donald Trump’s network in ad spending over the last month and a half while the former president has had to devote millions of campaign funds to legal expenses — and sit in a New York courthouse for his hush money trial.

Since March 6, after Super Tuesday when Trump effectively secured the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, through April 21, Biden’s campaign and other Democratic advertisers spent $27.2 million on advertising for the presidential race, while the Trump campaign and GOP advertisers spent about $9.3 million, according to AdImpact data.

Ad spending data (presidential race, March 6 to April 21)

  • Democrats: $27,153,293
  • Republicans: $9,344,948

During that time, Biden's campaign has spent millions in key battleground states, including $4.1 million in Michigan, $3.9 million in Pennsylvania, and at least $2 million in Arizona, Wisconsin, and Georgia. And the Biden network has used its plentiful airtime to promote the administration’s first-term record and slam Trump, focusing on key issues such as the  cost of living  and  abortion rights .

Meanwhile, Trump’s network has failed to match that effort since he became the presumptive nominee, though a pro-Trump super PAC, MAGA Inc., recently ramped up its advertising, booking over $1 million worth of airtime in Pennsylvania to coincide with Biden’s recent campaign swing through the state last week.

Trump has also benefited over that stretch from a nearly $3 million anti-Biden campaign from outside groups aligned with the oil and gas industries, which have been  running ads  in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, criticizing California fuel standards  defended  by the Biden administration. But despite some recent signs of activity, Trump’s network has been significantly outspent on the airwaves since his general election matchup with Biden came into focus. And  the latest round of FEC filings  shows how Biden’s fundraising edge is enabling that advertising advantage, as Trump’s ongoing legal battles drain millions from his campaign coffers.

How we got here: A timeline of the Donald Trump and Stormy Daniels hush money case

From CNN’s Lauren del Valle, Kara Scannell, Annette Choi and Gillian Roberts

The first criminal trial of a US ex-president is underway in New York, where former President Donald Trump faces charges from the Manhattan District attorney related to a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

This is the first of four criminal cases expected to go to trial for Trump, also the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee. CNN compiled a timeline of the key events leading up to the historic trial.

Here’s how we got here:

  • September 2016: Donald Trump discusses a $150,000 hush money payment understood to be for former Playboy model Karen McDougal with Michael Cohen who secretly records the conversation . McDougal has alleged she had an extramarital affair with Trump beginning in 2006, which he has denied.
  • October 7, 2016: The Washington Post releases an "Access Hollywood" video from 2005 in which Trump uses vulgar language to describe his sexual approach to women with then show host Billy Bush.
  • October 27, 2016: According to prosecutors, Cohen pays Daniels $130,000 to her attorney through a shell company in exchange for her silence about an affair she allegedly had with Trump in 2006. This $130,000 sum is separate from the $150,000 paid to McDougal. Trump has publicly denied having any affairs and has denied making the payments.
  • November 8, 2016: Trump secures the election to become the 45th president of the United States.
  • February 2017: Prosecutors say Cohen meets with Trump in the Oval Office to confirm how he would be reimbursed for the hush money payment Cohen fronted to Daniels. Under the plan, Cohen would send a series of false invoices requesting payment for legal services he performed pursuant to a retainer agreement and receive monthly checks for $35,000 for a total of $420,000 to cover the payment, his taxes and a bonus, prosecutors alleged. Prosecutors also allege there was never a retainer agreement.
  • January 2018: The Wall Street Journal breaks news about the hush money payment Cohen made to Daniels in 2016.

Trump is also facing charges in 3 other criminal cases

From CNN’s Devan Cole, Amy O'Kruk and Curt Merrill

Former President Donald Trump's motorcade outside of the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday, August 24.

The hush money criminal trial against former President Donald Trump is just one of  four criminal cases  he faces while juggling his presidential campaign.

The former president is facing at least  88 charges  over the four criminal indictments in Georgia, New York, Washington, DC, and Florida. Trump has pleaded not guilty to every charge in these cases.

Here's a recap of each case:

  • Hush money:  Trump was first indicted in March 2023 by the Manhattan district attorney on state charges related to a hush-money payment to an adult film star in 2016. Prosecutors allege Trump was part of an illegal conspiracy to  undermine  the integrity of the 2016 election. Further, they allege he was part of an unlawful plan to suppress negative information, including the $130,000 payment.
  • Classified documents:  Trump was indicted in June 2023 by a federal grand jury in Miami for taking classified national defense documents from the White House after he left office and resisting the government’s attempts to retrieve the materials. The National Archives said in early 2022 that at least 15 boxes of White House records were recovered from the estate, including   some that were classified . The charges were brought by special counsel Jack Smith.
  • Federal election interference:  Smith separately charged the former president last August with four crimes over his efforts to reverse the 2020 election results. The indictment alleges Trump and a co-conspirator "attempted to exploit the violence and chaos at the Capitol by calling lawmakers to convince them ... to delay the certification" of the election. That case is currently on hold as the Supreme Court weighs Trump’s claims of presidential immunity in the matter.
  • Fulton County:  State prosecutors in Georgia brought a similar election subversion case against Trump and others. An Atlanta-based grand jury on August 14, 2023, indicted Trump and 18 others on state charges stemming from their alleged efforts to overturn the former president’s 2020 electoral defeat. A trial date has not yet been set in that case.

Politics latest: Sunak finally gets his way - bill condemned as 'significant threat to the rule of law'

The Rwanda bill will now go for Royal Assent after the Lords concluded that tabling any further amendments would be futile given the government's majority in the Commons. Earlier, the PM vowed deportation flights will happen at any cost, declaring "enough is enough".

  • Rishi Sunak has won a major victory for his Rwanda policy after it finally passed through parliament tonight
  • The bill had gone back and forth between the House of Commons and House of Lords in a stand-off that threatened to drag on into the early hours
  • The PM has acknowledged it will be 10 to 12 weeks before the first plane carrying asylum seekers to Rwanda will take off, missing his self-imposed spring deadline
  • At a news conference this morning he also vowed Rwanda deportation flights would start 'come what may'

Thank you for following along on the parliamentary stand-off over the government's Rwanda scheme.

Here are the headlines from Monday:

  • Rishi Sunak won a major victory that saw the government's Rwanda bill finally pass through parliament;
  • Peers decided to end their stand-off over the policy, meaning it will go for royal assent;
  • The PM vowed deportation flights would start within 10 to 12 weeks;
  • He also hinted at leaving the ECHR if it blocks flights to Rwanda;
  • A former parliamentary researcher was charged with spying for China;
  • Train drivers at 16 companies say they will stage fresh strikes.

We will be back from 6am with the latest updates.

Yvette Cooper MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, commenting on the Safety of Rwanda Bill passing in Parliament, said: “The new Rwanda law is an extortionately expensive gimmick rather than a serious plan to tackle dangerous boat crossings.

“The Rwanda scheme will cost more than half a billion pounds for just 300 people, less than 1% of asylum seekers here in the UK - and there is no plan for the 99%.

“Instead of spending £2m per asylum seeker on this failing scheme they should be putting that money into boosting our border security instead - that is Labour’s practical plan."

James Cleverly has said the Rwanda bill passing through parliament is a "landmark moment in our plan to stop the boats".

In a social media video the home secretary said: "The Safety of Rwanda Bill has passed in parliament and it will become law within days.

"The act will prevent people from abusing the law by using false human rights claims to block removals. And it makes clear that the UK parliament is sovereign, giving government the power to reject interim blocking measures imposed by European courts.

"I promised to do what was necessary to clear the path for the first flight. That's what we have done.

"Now we're working day in and day out to get flights off the ground."

The Rwanda bill has been condemned as a "breach of international law" by human rights groups.

The charity Freedom from Torture, alongside Amnesty International and Liberty, criticised the government for ignoring the findings of the Supreme Court, which ruled the policy was unlawful in November.

The group said the bill poses a "significant threat to the rule of law" by undermining what protects people from an abuse of power by the state and described parliament as a "crime scene".

They said the UK was increasingly gaining a reputation for "playing fast and loose with its international obligations" and called for the asylum system to be rebuilt.

Getting the Rwanda bill through parliament "was the easy part", an expert has warned.

The government now "faces an array of logistical and legal hurdles to making the Rwanda plan work in practice," according to Marley Morris, associate director for migration, trade and communities at the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR).

"From dealing with individual legal challenges to ensuring Rwanda has enough housing capacity for arrivals, the Home Office has its work cut out for it," he said.

"At this stage, the prospects of the Rwanda plan operating at scale seem distant."

Peers have decided not to oppose the Rwanda bill in a major victory for Rishi Sunak in getting his key policy through parliament.

The bill will now go for royal assent, the final step before it becomes law.

Earlier the prime minister blamed Labour peers for holding up the bill, acknowledging he will miss his self-imposed spring target for getting the scheme off the ground.

Mr Sunak acknowledged it will still be 10 to 12 weeks before the first plane carrying asylum seekers to the east African country will take off, adding there will be "multiple flights a month through the summer and beyond".

Peers are now back debating the Rwanda bill.

We will be bringing you the latest updates, so keep following along.

The Sky News live poll tracker - collated and updated by our Data and Forensics team - aggregates various surveys to indicate how voters feel about the different political parties.

With the local election campaign well under way, Labour is still sitting comfortably on a roughly 21-point lead, averaging at 43.5% in the polls, with the Tories on 23.5%.

In third is Reform UK on 12.2%, followed by the Lib Dems on 9.3%.

The Green Party stands at 6.3%, and the SNP on 3.0%.

It remains to be seen whether the House of Lords will give up on their last amendment to the Rwanda bill after they failed to get it through the House of Commons.

MPs voted 312 to 237 to reject the amendment after peers backed a requirement the east African country could not be treated as safe until an independent monitoring body deems it is.

Lord Anderson of Ipswich, who put forward the amendment earlier, accused the bill of being "post-truth", when he addressed the Commons this evening.

He said: "My amendment addresses first the present, then the future. [It] requires the secretary of state to tell us when, in his judgement, Rwanda is safe... Lord Hope and I have... revised this amendment which now provides only for monitoring committee to be consulted..."

Referring to the government's reluctance to state that Rwanda is and will continue to be safe, he added: "This assumption of perpetual parliamentary infallibility is an embarrassment and a nonsense."

The Lords could insist on their previous amendment again, which would mean the bill goes back to the House of Commons for a vote, or they could let it through, meaning it could pass through parliament tonight.

As we said earlier, MPs have again rejected the last remaining amendment pushed forward by peers to the Rwanda bill.

But it isn't over yet.

The legislation now heads back to the Lords and it will be up to them whether they try again or accept defeat and give the plan their sign off.

Our chief political correspondent Jon Craig has heard peers will be back in their seats around 11.15pm.

Then it will just be a case of watching and waiting to see what they decide to do.

We will bring you all the updates, so stay with us.

Student loan forgiveness will be halted for this group starting next week: 6 takeaways.

The Education Department will stop all student loan forgiveness processing for a critical cohort of borrowers starting next week. The temporary pause is part of a broader effort to transition the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program to a new servicing platform.

PSLF can wipe out the federal student loan debt for borrowers in as little as 10 years if they work for certain qualifying nonprofit or government organizations. The program requires 120 qualifying payments, each of which must meet certain requirements. To get PSLF credit, borrowers must submit employment certification forms. Up until now, these forms have been processed by MOHELA, the department’s contracted PSLF servicer. But as part of a long-planned transition, the department will be moving PSLF servicing from MOHELA to the StudentAid.gov platform.

Starting on May 1st, all PSLF processing will be temporarily halted as the department begins to implement the shift to StudentAid.gov. This will have major implications for borrowers pursuing loan forgiveness under the program. Here’s what you need to know.

All PSLF Processing Will Be Halted During Student Loan Forgiveness Pause Starting May 1

The PSLF processing pause begins on May 1st and is expected to last through July. During that time, the Education Department will not process any PSLF employment certifications, will not approve any student loan forgiveness under PSLF, and will not update PSLF qualifying payment counts. In addition, borrowers will not be able to get any questions about their PSLF progress answered during the transition.

Borrowers will also lose all access to their PSLF data. This includes PSLF tracking information accessible through their online MOHELA account such as qualifying PSLF payment counts and approved employment periods. Once the transition to StudentAid.gov is completed in July, borrowers will regain access to their PSLF data through that platform.

Borrowers can still submit PSLF employment certification forms during the pause, which will eventually allow them to update their PSLF payment counts and — if applicable — receive student loan forgiveness. But no forms will be reviewed during the transition period.

“Starting May 1, 2024, you can continue to submit your PSLF forms, but they will be put on hold and not processed until July,” said the Education Department on an informational website addressing the suspension.

“If you reach loan forgiveness during the processing pause, you can still submit your last Employment Certification Form (ECF) to apply to have your loans forgiven, but your application will not be processed until after the pause ends,” said the National Consumer Law Center in a new blog post discussing the PSLF pause.

Loan Forgiveness Delays Expected Once PSLF Processing Resumes In July

The PSLF processing pause is currently set to end in July, at which point student loan forgiveness processing should resume under the program. But the Biden administration and advocacy groups are warning borrowers to expect delays due to anticipated backlogs.

“Your qualifying payment counts will be updated after the transition is complete in July. At that time, you will be able to access a new PSLF dashboard on StudentAid.gov. You might also see delays and further updates to your eligible and qualifying payment counts,” said the department. The department warns borrowers not to resubmit a PSLF form a second time after the pause ends if they submitted one during the suspension period, as doing so “could cause delays with your submission.”

“We anticipate substantial PSLF processing delays after the pause ends,” said NCLC. Borrowers should expect “significant” delays in processing student loan forgiveness applications and updating PSLF qualifying payment counts.

Download PSLF Records Before May 1st To Mitigate Student Loan Forgiveness Disruptions

Because borrowers will lose access to their student loan forgiveness records associated with the PSLF program, including qualifying payment counts and other information, both the Education Department and advocates are urging borrowers to download and save their PSLF tracking information currently accessible via their online MOHELA account.

“If you want to save screenshots and correspondence for your personal records, we recommend accessing the portal by April 30, 2024,” said the department.

NCLC warned that borrowers not only will lose access to their PSLF records, but that they anticipate errors in PSLF tracking once the transition to StudentAid.gov is complete. This could jeopardize eligibility for student loan forgiveness under the program, or delay approvals, particularly as the Education Department simultaneously works to complete the related IDR Account Adjustment initiative .

“We strongly advise borrowers to download all PSLF payment count and tracking information from MOHELA by April 30th,” said the group in its blog post, as borrowers will lose access to this data and may not get it back in July.

Your Servicer Could Change As A Result Of PSLF Transition

MOHELA has been the designated loan servicer for the PSLF program since it took over from FedLoan Servicing. But with the upcoming transition to StudentAid.gov, borrowers with any servicer will be able to get on track for student loan forgiveness under the PSLF program without necessarily needing MOHELA to be their servicer. “Under the new USDS contract, all loan servicers will be able to service PSLF accounts,” said NCLC. “MOHELA will no longer be the only PSLF loan servicer.”

Borrowers currently with MOHELA could experience a servicing change as a result of the transition. And even those who remain with MOHELA will see changes to their loan servicing experience as the agency goes through its own transition to a different platform.

“If MOHELA is your loan servicer, your account might be transferred to their new servicing platform or another servicer after May 1,” warned the department.

“At some point in the future, the Department may transfer some accounts from MOHELA to other loan servicers,” said NCLC. “Make sure your contact information is up to date with your loan servicer and the Department of Education on StudentAid.gov, so you don’t miss any notices about your loans being transferred.”

Keep Making Student Loan Payments During PSLF Processing Pause

While student loan forgiveness processing under the PSLF program will be suspended, borrowers should continue to make their payments as required.

“Payments are still due during this pause, so continue to make payments to your loan servicer,” said the Education Department.

“The temporary pause on PSLF processing is not a payment pause,” warned NCLC. “Borrowers are still required to make timely monthly payments to MOHELA.” This includes borrowers who anticipate reaching the 120-payment threshold for student loan forgiveness under the PSLF program. “Unless you request a forbearance while your forgiveness application is processed, you will still be required to make payments until your application is reviewed and approved,” said the group.
