Vector Research VCX-800 Stereo Cassette Deck
The Vector Research VCX-800 is a stereo cassette deck with Dolby B/C and HX-Pro noise reduction, it was introduced by Vector Research in 1981 with a list price of USD $1,000 and discontinued 3 years later in 1984.
The main features of the Vector Research VCX-800 are: 3 heads and off-tape monitoring, electronic linear tape counter with 4 digits, manual tape type selection with support for normal, chrome and metal tapes, belt driven single-capstan transport.
Typical front loading cassette deck with the cassette compartiment located on the left side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well.
Level meters used on the VCX-800 are generic digital peak reading meters. Full-logic transport controls used on the VCX-800 let it respond to the slightest finger contact for fast and effortless transport function selection.
To ensure the best response from the wide variety of tapes available adjustment of, bias and sensitivity, to optimum levels can be performed prior to recording.
Dolby C-type used in the VCX-800 provides 20 dB of noise reduction above about 1,000 Hz, fully doubling the amount given by B-type. The Dolby HX PRO system provides precise bias control during recording to reduce distortion and improve linearity in the high-frequency range, the result is recorded sound that is highly faithful to the original. To further maintain recording accuracy, the VCX-800 incorporates a switchable multiplex filter. When you record FM stereo broadcasts, the MPX filter of the VCX-800 can be swiched on to prevent the standard 19kHz FM pilot signal from interfering with the noise reduction system.
To make live recordings this deck has 2 microphone inputs to connect microphones with a jack connector. For undisturbed listening a jack connector for a pair of stereo headphones is supplied. Connection to other audio components for plaback can be achieved by a RCA cable and recording from a source by a RCA cable.

vector research was pushed here in miami by a store called overseas electronics in the late 80's. they were one of those retail sales at wholesale prices type of places. the gear didnt sell well here as people had no experience with the brand. i have run into a few vector pieces over the years and they all seem to be something along the lines of mid line JVC or technics units. not amazing but not bad.
Pacific Stereo
Dorko pacifico.
Vector was not made in any of our foundries. They were a separate, bona fide company that sold products to a number of retailers. I was never able to determine exactly who the OEM for them was.
Know somebody of Tech HI-FI ? Can they find out who in Japan gathered Vector Research for 1983 1000$ a very large value of about 2,350$ today , the design is very brutal military . Highly Biased
We sold a lot of Vector Research at Hi Fi Buys in MI, IN, KY, TN. The first generation stuff looks like OEM Teac, lots of metal, lots of screws, rock solid. The second generation was built by Fulet in Taiwan, the NAD builder, and it was nowhere near as good.

Tvel completes development of new fuel for Paks nuclear plant
!{Model.Description}
The full package of documents is handed over to the Hungarian customer, MVM Paks Ltd, for further licensing of the new fuel by the national nuclear power regulator, Tvel said.
The first fuel assemblies have also passed acceptance testing at Tvel's Elemash Machine-building plant in Elektrostal, Moscow region.
The new modification of VVER-440 second generation fuel increases the efficiency of fuel usage and advances the economic performance of the power plant operation, Tvel said.
The engineering contract for development of the new VVER-440 fuel was signed in late 2017. The development and validation work involved a number of Russian enterprises, including OKB Gidropress (a part of Rosatom machine-building division Atomenergomash), Bochvar Institute (material science research facility of TVEL Fuel Company), Elemash Machine-building plant and Kurchatov Institute national research center. At the site of OKB Gidropress research and experiment facility, the new fuel passed a range of hydraulic, longevity and vibration tests .
The first consignment of the modified fuel will be delivered to Paks nuclear power plant later this year. The four-unit Paks nuclear plant, which entered operation between 1982 and 1987 currently operate on a 15-month fuel cycle and supply around 50% of Hungary's electricity.

Here's the VR ad....but this only has the VCX-600 Cassette Deck, not the VCX-800, shown below Brainsmashers VRX-9000 Receiver. My VCX-600 has a couple of LEDs out but otherwise works great! Hopefully it can be restored with a parts unit.
That's my VRX-9000 in that ad, except for the cool looking handles. Mine didn't come with those. Would love to find that cassette deck too. I see they priced both at $750 USD....I'm pretty sure I only paid around $300 CND (1982 or 83) which would have been about right as I was broke at the time.

I see the address is Nordhoff St. in Chatsworth California. That sounds VERY familiar! If anyone can figure out who ELSE was hq'd there, then we'd have a clue as to who may have paired up with VS or even owned them! Tom

My first real stereo ... Was based on a VR-5000 receiver along with a pair of Philips SJ2932 (?) speakers and a Dual turntable (don't remember the #, CRS strikes again!) in 1978. I loved that set but when I got the upgrade bug I sold it to my youngest brother who eventually passed it to another brother and there it remained all these years until Sunday. My brother is clearing the decks to move into a new place and asked if I would like to have the receiver and speakers back for the price of picking them up. After thinking long and hard for about zero seconds I said no problem see you Sunday! Got'em home Sunday night and even though they're somewhat the worse for the wear they both still work! Sound pretty good too. Vintagestereo is right about the tuner. It's really quite good. The amp section was (is) good too and outperformed the specs by about 50% when new. Anyway to get to the point, I purchased the system at Tech HiFi (on Woodward in Royal Oak,MI) and my salesguy told me an interesting story about Vector Research. According to this guy VR consisted of six engineers from Teac who struck out on their own so they could design equipment their way. They jobbed out the assembly process to a Japanese company with excellent results. Whether this story is actually true I really don't know but it sounded cool at the time. Sadly the line deteriorated later on and has apparently faded out. Too bad they couldn't stick with the original concept. They made some really good stuff early on. Gary

In this area, Southern California, if memory serves me right, Vector Research was primarily marketed by Pacific Stereo. To the point where many around here assumed it was a "house brand". - augustwest

We sold it at Hi Fi Buys in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. You might have some fun and change the yellow florescent filter gel to another color.

Tech HIFI in the east used to carry Vector Research also. Vector Research was a house brand line although nice quality for the most part.
