1. निम्नलिखित गद्यांशों की संदर्भ सहित व्याख्या कीजिए।

(क) हमें अपनी रुचि और प्रवृत्ति के अनुकूल विषय चुन लेने चाहिए और विषय पर पूर्ण अधिकार प्राप्त करना चाहिए। हम जिस आर्थिक अवस्था में जिन्दगी बिता रहे हैं, उसमें यह काम कठिन अवश्य है, पर हमारा आदर्श ऊँचा रहना चाहिए। हम पहाड़ की चोटी तक न पहुँच सकेंगे तो कमरे तक तो पहुँच ही जाएँगे। जो जमीन पर पड़े रहने से कहीं अच्छा है। अगर हमारे अंतर प्रेम की ज्योति से प्रकाशित हो और सेवा का आदर्श हमारे सामने हो तो ऐसी कोई कठिनाई नहीं जिस पर हम विजय न प्राप्त कर सकें।

(ख) गजानन्द को इस समय सुमन के चेहरे पर प्रेम और पवित्रता की छटा दिखाई दी। वह व्याकुल हो गए। वह भाव, जिन्हें उन्होंने बरसों से दबा रखे थे, जागृत होने लगे। सुख और आनन्द की नवीन भावनाएँ उत्पन्न होने लगीं। उन्हें अपना जीवन शुष्क, नीरस, आनन्दविहीन जान पड़ने लगा। वह इन कल्पनाओं से भयभीत हो गए। उन्हें शंका हुई कि यदि मेरे मन में यह विचार ठहर गए तो मेरा संयम, वैराग्य और सेवाव्रत इसके प्रवाह में तृण के समान बह जाएँगे। वह बोल उठे - तुम्हें मालूम है कि यहाँ एक अनाथालय खोला गया है।

(ग) मिरज़ा सज्जादअली के घर में कोई बड़ा-बूढ़ा न था, इसलिए उन्हीं के दीवानखाने में बाजियाँ होती थीं। मगर यह बात न थी कि मिरजा के घर के और लोग उनके इस व्यवहार से खुश हों। घरवालों का तो कहना ही क्या मुहल्लेवाले, घर के नौकर-चाकर तक नित्य द्वेषपूर्ण टिप्पणियाँ किया करते थे बड़ा मनहूस खेल है। घर को तबाह कर देता है। खुदा न करे, किसी को इसकी चाट पड़े आदमी दीन-दुनिया किसी के काम का नहीं रहता, न घर का, न घाट का बुरा रोग है। यहाँ तक कि मिरज़ा की बेगम साहिबा को इससे इतना द्वेष था कि अक्सर खोज खोजकर पति को लताड़ती थीं। पर उन्हें इसका अवसर मुश्किल से मिलता था। वह सोती ही रहती थीं, तब तक उधर बाजी बिछ जाती थी, और रात को जब सो जाती थीं तब कहीं, मिरज़ाजी घर में आते थे।

(घ) जबरा शायद समझ रहा था कि स्वर्ग यहीं है और हल्कू की पवित्र आत्मा में तो उसे कुत्ते के प्रति घृणा की गंध तक न थी। अपने किसी अभिन्न मित्र या भाई को भी वह इतनी ही तत्परता से गले लगाता। वह अपनी दीनता से आहत न था, जिसने आज उसे इस दशा को पहुँचा दिया। नहीं, इस अनोखी मैत्री ने जैसे उसकी आत्मा के सब द्वार खोल दिये थे और उसका एक-एक अणु प्रकाश से चमक रहा था।

2. निम्नलिखित प्रश्नों के उत्तर लगभग 750-800 शब्दों में दीजिए।

(1) प्रेमचंद के नाटकों का परिचय देते हुए उनकी विशेषताएँ बताइए। (2) 'शतरंज के खिलाड़ी कहानी की शिल्पगत विशेषताओं पर प्रकाश डालिए । (3) 'दो बैलों की कथा' कहानी की कथावस्तु को विस्तार से विश्लेषित कीजिए ।

3. निम्नलिखित विषयों पर (प्रत्येक) लगभग 250 शब्दों में टिप्पणी लिखिए:

(1) 'कर्बला' नाटक का कथ्य (2) 'ईदगाह' कहानी की भाषा (3) साहित्य का उद्देश्य का सार

(क) उसे अनुभव होता है कि वह बाँध, जो संसार रूपी नदी की बाए से मुझे बचाए हुए था, टूट गया है और मैं अथाह सागर में खड़ा हूँ। सदन सोच रहा था कि मैंने नाव तो नदी में डाल दी, लेकिन यह पार भी लगेगी? उसे अब मालूम हो रहा था कि वह पानी गहरा है, हवा तेज है और जीवन-यात्रा इतनी सरल नहीं है, जितनी मैं समझता था। लहर यदि मीठे स्वरों में गाती है, तो भयंकर ध्वनि से गरजती है। हवा अगर लहरों को थपकियाँ देती हैं, तो कभी-कभी उन्हें उछाल भी देती है।

(ख) और यह अवस्था उस समय पैदा होगी, जब हमारा सौंदर्य व्यापक हो जायगा, जब सारी सृष्टि उसकी परिधि में आ जायगी। वह किसी विशेष श्रेणी तक ही सीमित नहोगा, उसकी उड़ान के लिए केवल बाग की चहारदीवारी न होगी, किन्तु वह वायु मण्डल होगा जो सारे भूमंडल को घेरे हुए है। तब कुरुचि हमारे लिए सहय न होगी, तब हम उसकी जड़ खोदने के लिए कमर कसकर तैयार हो जायेंगे।

(ग) मिरजा घर से निकले तो हकीम के घर जाने के बदले मीर साहब के घर पहुँचे और सारा वृत्तांत कहा। मीर साहब बोले "मैंने तो जब मुहरे बाहर आते देखे, तभी ताड़ गया। फौरन भागा बड़ी गुस्सेवर मालूम होती हैं। मगर आपने उन्हें यों सिर चढ़ा रखा है, यह मुनासिब नहीं। उन्हें इससे क्या मतलब कि आप बाहर क्या करते हैं। घर का इंतजाम करना उनका काम हैं; दूसरी बातों से उन्हें क्या सरोकार ?"

(घ) दूसरे दिन गया ने बैलों को हल में जोता, पर इन दोनों ने जैसे पाँव न उठाने की कसम खा ली थी । वह मारते-मारते थक गया, पर दोनों ने पाँव न उठाया। एक बार जब उस निर्दयी ने हीरा की नाक पर खूब डंडे जमाये तो मोती का गुस्सा काबू से बाहर हो गया। हल लेकर भागा हल, रस्सी, जुआ, जोत, सब टूट-टाटकर बराबर हो गया। गले में बड़ी-बड़ी रस्सियाँ न होतीं तो दोनों पकड़ाई में न आते।

(क) प्रेमचंद के उपन्यासों का परिचय दीजिए । (ख) 'सेवासदन' उपन्यास के संरचना शिल्प की विशेषताएँ बताइए । (ग) 'पंच परमेश्वर' कहानी की भाषा शैली का सोदाहरण विवेचन कीजिए ।
