Wonderla Bangalore Review: The Best 1-Day Trip Experience

Wonderla Bangalore Review – A straight answer to whether Wonderla in Bangalore is worth visiting – YES, it absolutely is! It’s one of my favorites of must-visits in Bangalore . This comes out from a person who’s visited the same Wonderla twice. I visited it once two years ago with 3 other guys and recently, I visited with my whole friends’ squad of 13 members!

When you’re in Bangalore and have no idea where to go, have no mood to build an itinerary either, but have a whole day ahead of you, Wonderla is the perfect resort.

Though many of us had already visited Wonderla at least once before, visiting the place with friends is another experience. The long ride till there, the water rides, rain dance, and having lunch altogether was worth the second time.

Wonderla Bangalore Review: Troubles of Getting There

Don’t get me wrong – though Wonderla lies on the outskirts of Bangalore on the Mysore road, it’s incredibly easy and cheap to get there. There are direct buses from Majestic and many other parts of Bangalore that take you straight inside the gates of Wonderla at regular intervals throughout the day.

Even the customer support for buses and routes is solid. For those bringing private vehicles, there is no extra charge for parking as well.

But we, being on the other far end of Bangalore near Bagalur, Yelahanka, didn’t like the idea of traveling a total of 5-6 hours on different buses throughout our trip.

After a long group discussion, we settled to book a Tempo Traveller. Though a little expensive, I’m glad we did as we all traveled together without much hustle.

The Dilemma of When to Visit

I read a TripAdvisor review where the family wrote about how they faced school crowds on a weekday and tiring waiting queues.

However, we visited on a weekday and had no trouble with waiting queues. While the RECOIL roller coaster and other long thriller rides did have queues, we didn’t mind standing as we kept cracking jokes and talking throughout the wait.

Frankly, a Wonderla trip is more enjoyable for youngsters rather, so that could be another reason for the poor rating.

Anyway, I’d recommend visiting Wonderla in Bangalore on weekdays as there’s less wait time and the tickets cost more on weekends. Speaking of prices here’s how we spent on the trip and how you can too!

wonderla images

Wonderla 1-Day Trip Budget

Our Wonderla trip budget rounded up to Rs. 1,500 per head including the Tempo Traveller and our lunch inside. If we’d chosen cheaper transport, then we’d have spent upto Rs. 1000 per person.

The Wonderla tickets prices vary depending on the peak season. Currently, on weekdays, the ticket price is Rs. 1049 for adults and Rs. 840 for children. It costs Rs. 420-525 extra for the fast-track tickets. For the weekends, it’s typically Rs. 200 extra than usual.

Though we fell under the adult category, we had our college ID cards to avail of the student discount of 20%. It came down to Rs. 840 per head.

Lunch at Wonderla’s Food Court

As for the food, we had lunch at the Wonderla food court where the food was at reasonable rates. There were dozens of other options other than the food court, but we didn’t have time to explore or the money to try new stuff. So we stuck to the rice items in the food court.

wonderla food court evening

Don’t judge me on that – we weren’t really hungry after the stomach-churning rides. We kept our lunch light so that we’d be able to participate in the following rides.

It cost around Rs. 200-300 per lunch meal where most options were of rice items like fried rice, egg rice, and chicken rice. As there was too much in each bowl, we shared each rice plate in twos. I took a combo of chicken rice along with drinks along with another friend.

On average, the lunch cost each of us Rs. 100-150. I thought the water cost extra, but they had water dispensers and cups in various parts of the park.

Here’s a random tree picture at the entrance of Wonderla.

Going about Wonderla

I did this on both of my visits and I think it’s quite logical for most. But I’ll just put it out there anyway:

  • Go for the dry rides.
  • Have lunch.
  • Change up and jump for the water rides.
  • Got time? Hit another dry ride!

The Wonderla Amusement Park is open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. We got there late around 11:45 am and hit the dry rides straight away. Pro-tip if you’re looking to complete all the rides in one day without a fast-track ticket: You can’t .

wonderla trip experience, bangalore diaries

We weren’t looking to hop onto every ride we found, we were looking to have fun. Period. We missed out on some rides and we went on some other rides TWICE. We skipped on the not-so-appealing rides like the small Columbus and the Termite train and went for most of the high thrill rides.

We didn’t cover all water rides either. We hit the drop loop, a few other slides, the rain dance, and the infamous wave pool.

As the water rides have a short open timing from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm on weekdays. So we set back and relaxed in the pool lying and lazing under the sun in large swim tubes.

Sorry for the lengthy description, but it was a sweet end to a wholesome day.

Wonderla Bangalore Review: My Favorite Rides

The Recoil ride no doubt stands as my favorite ride. But how about the Drop Zone? No, not the tall Flash Tower, the smaller one beside it. Though it wasn’t tall, the ride lasts longer and the drops are more fierce. And how about the Y-Scream and the Maverick?

essay on trip to wonderla

Some of the rides were truly memorable – both land and water rides. The Recoil reminded me of the Revenge of the Mummy ride in Universal Studios in Singapore . Since I found more than just a few rides cool, each better than the previous, here’s my list of favorite rides:

The ride begins backward . It takes you into a complete loop, brings you to a steep point, and slows down only to roll backward again!

We got a chance to see the pictures of our horrified expressions on the ride just for a moment. We can buy our pictures after the ride, but we quickly got a shot on our phones. So here’s an exclusive picture:

recoil roller coaster ride bangalore

Right beside the Flash Tower is its smaller version, the Drop Zone. I enjoyed this more as the drops made me experience freefall. I lifted my hands and legs hanging as it dropped, making it sweeter. However, the best part was of a guy beside me crying for help as we took drops.

We looked at it from the side initially and assumed it was a Columbus thriller ride… until it took a 360-degree loop with the seats hanging freely in the air. After a long wait in our seats on the ride and all the safety checks, the ride began.

I thought I’d go crazy and leave my hands hanging free, but the moment it took a full upside-down circle where I could see the faces of people in the waiting queue, I froze and held my safety handles tight. It was amazing!

y scream wonderla bangalore

Drop Loop (Water ride)

It’s exactly as the name suggests, the slide’s almost a vertical drop down with nothing below your feet. The moment they closed the transparent door and the bit of floor below me disappeared still gives me chills.

The guy I mentioned in the Drop Zone came after me and his scream as he came through the tube was something I vividly remember. His expression as he came through the tunnel was even more historic – we laughed till our stomachs hurt before going for the next ride.

We didn’t get pictures on the water rides as we kept our phones away safely in the locker room. Most of us didn’t have water-resistant phones. Those who did have didn’t want to risk it.

My classmate asked me how the ride was as I got off. I told her it was amazing and tripped the very next second with dizziness.

Imagine spinning in one spot but the whole room also spins with you in bigger circles. If that wasn’t enough, the second half of the ride was when the whole deck spun diagonally . It’s had to visualize it, isn’t it?

Though not a ‘ride’, it had to be on this list. I felt it was amazing but it again differs from person to person. While it sure is just loud music, disco lighting in a closed space, and water spraying all over you, it’s great if you’ve your best mates with you.

The other thing I absolutely loved is the security and how Wonderla’s staff actually makes it’s enjoyable and specifically safe for everyone. There were separate sections for just men and the other for women and couples.

Upon seeing I’m a guy, the security at its entrance pushed me towards the ‘Only Men’ section. One of our group members told the security I was with her and pulled me into the mixed section.

Wave Pool 1&2

One of the highlights of the Wonderla is, of course, the wave pool where they begin at certain time intervals. We initially stood in the deep waters where the waves swept us off our feet and onto the crowds behind.

However, what was more fun was sitting by the shores of the waves – believe me, the waves were rough on the edge as well! At one point, I feared that my nylon shorts would tear as the waves pushed me back from my sitting position!

There was also the time when my shorts washed completely up my thighs, but let’s not talk about that here.

Crazy Wagon

This isn’t much of a thrill ride but this has been my first ride on both of my visits to Wonderla. I recommend you go for it too – it’s a pleasant ride with a bit of thrill, to begin with.

Protip: Sit closer to the edge of the ride for a better experience :)

Wonderla Resorts

No, I haven’t visited the Wonderla Resort on Mysore Road yet. That’s something on my bucket list down the line and I’ll be sure to get you the complete Wonderla Resort Bangalore review.

But upon looking at how Wonderla runs its theme park, the cleanliness, the check-ups on all the thrill rides are wonderful. I’ve seen parents restricting my friends from going to many places in Bangalore, but Wonderla’s never on that list. It always has been particularly safe for everyone.

Also, the reviews on Wonderla’s resort have been on the positive side. It’s said to be a travel sustainable property on Booking.com.

To book, I recommend using Booking.com for your Wonderla Resort as it’s one of the most trusted travel sites. The best part is you don’t have to pay upfront! You can book today and pay when you get there!

Tailpiece: Ending on Cloud Nine

We did a bunch of stupid things like dancing (not me) on Wonderla Multipurpose Hall’s stage, shot Instagenic pictures of the evening, even did try to make a trending group TikTok (or whatever you kids call it, these days… yes, it’s a 20-year-old saying this).

With the ice cream and popcorn shops by Wonderla’s gates after we showered and changed, some of us couldn’t resist but buy some things. That sums up my Wonderla Bangalore Review :)

wonderla night

Overall, it was a sweet day with the people closest to me, people that I see every day on my Uni’s campus. I think that ultimately makes it better – who you visit Wonderla with.

Anyway, we were late by the time we got out over 7 pm. There wasn’t any public transport for some of my group members who’d taken the bus. So they joined along in our Traveler Tempo and we dropped them at a metro station on the way.

Wonderla, Bangalore Overview

Wonderla is said to be the best amusement park in the city (and also one of the best in the country), and attracts all those looking for a rush of adrenaline. While it is most famous for the high-thrill dry rides, it also features some relaxed, fun rides, hence providing something for every visitor.

Situated on the outskirts of Bangalore on the Mysore road, Wonderla is a great amusement + water park, featuring over 60 rides. It's quite popular for its collection of "High-thrill rides", one of the main talking points of the park. It also features a newly constructed, India's first "reverse looping roller coaster" - a coaster which you do in both directions, once straight and once in reverse order. The water park is fantastic as well, with a variety of slides ranging from thrilling to the leisurely.

Wonderla fast track tickets, most popular rides in wonderla bangalore.

  • Recoil (the roller coaster ) : The claim to fame of this ride is that it is India's first "reverse looping roller coaster", which means that you do the ride once in each direction - going forward and back. The whole experience in incredible - the coaster runs at a super high speed and reaches dizzying heights, and gives you great view of the park at some twisted angles.
  • Flash Tower : Probably the highest ride in Wonderla Bangalore save the big ferris wheel, the Flash Tower is a 40 metre high ride. The tower shoots up and drops you down multiple times, providing a shot of adrenaline rush.
  • Maverick : Not a ride recommended after a lunch - or even breakfast - Maverick twists and turns you around at a high altitude, at a high speed. And if that's not all, it gets twisted and does the same thing over again.
  • Wonder Splash: Comparatively less scary by Wonderla standards, the Wonder Splash is a small roller coaster which lands in a pool of water, creating a wall of water around you as it hits the pool. Children love it.
  • Giant Ferris Wheel: A landmark ride that can be seen from miles away, especially at night when it is beautifully lit. The ferris wheel is situated on the top of an already high tower and is pretty high itself - giving you a brilliant view of the whole park and the surrounding hills.
  • Korneto:  A newly made water ride, the Korneto is shaped like a funnel. You jump into a closed tube, and exit into the funnel, doing a few rounds inside the. While it's not the most thrilling ride, it is definitely a unique one and should be on your to-do list.

We booked an executive room in the WonderLa resort which included 1 night stay + park tickets + breakfast. We checked in bit early as the room was ready. The room was really nice and we can see the big Ferris wheel from our window. We had to pay for extra ticket for my 3 YO as her height was more than allowed limit. We spent whole day in the park. I really liked the arrangement in the park. All waiting areas had fans so did not feel the hot weather. Drink kiosks are at every corner so you can buy cold drinks pretty easily. We went to the restaurant for dinner. There was live music as well. The food was very tasty. Kids had pizza. Next morning we had breakfast. There were so much variety in breakfast. Everything was very tasty. I did not like Rs 100 per cycle which should be complimentary. Staff were polite and understanding. There was many activity area and a swimming pool in the hotel as well. Gym was nice too. We had nice weekend fun.

This is a resort right next to Wonderla park and is a good place to relax and unwind after the full day fun at park. The tickets for resort are separate, and are a little overpriced. Its only because it is walking distance from the Wonderla park that it makes sense to stay here. Rooms were neat and clean and property was nice. Staff was cordial and breakfast buffet was decent.

Write a Diary Entry on Your Trip to an Amusement Park

Diary writing is a skill which is very important to know for personal development. The habit of diary writing has been proven to strengthen one’s recall ability and such examples will help you understand various scenarios you can refer to while writing a diary entry. We explore diary entry through the topic- visit an amusement park.

Whenever asked to write, these examples can come in very helpful. So, let’s start.

Feature image of Diary Entry on Your Trip to an Amusement Park

Question-1: Write a diary entry, About a visit to an amusement park with your family.

Hints: Which amusement park did you go to? – Your experience there?- Your most memorable ride?- Will you visit again?

17th March 2021, Saturday 7:00 pm.

Dear Diary,

I can not wait to share the fun day I had today!

My family decided to go for a picnic in an amusement park. Such family events happened often but due to the pandemic situation, things changed. So I was very excited to go on a picnic after so long. WonderLaa is a well-known amusement park all over India. The theme park has a lot of thrill-seeking rides, like the Maverick, Roller Coaster, Dungeon ride among many others.

As I lay eyes on these towering rides, I was really excited to join in the fun. The ride I found most memorable was the Recoil. India’s first reverse looping roller coaster was a thrill to ride. Dear diary, I am really happy to have experienced such an amazing time with my parents and I hope to visit again soon.

Question-2: Write a diary entry, About a visit to an amusement park with your friends.

Hints: Which amusement park did you go to? – Your experience with your friends?- Most memorable event of the day?- Will you visit again?

8th  March 2021, Thursday, 6:00 pm.

I am really glad to pen down the fun day I had today.

I was really excited to visit this famous amusement park with my friends. It was a short trip to WonderLa, the biggest, most thrilling amusement park in the city. The first look into the amusement park with those towering rides was a site to remember. My friends and I had the most fun in the Flash Tower, a 40-meter free-fall ride. As the shuttle was let go from the 40 meters height, all of us screamed out in fear and excitement.

I spent the rest of the day ride-hoping with my friends. It was a day filled with fun and laughter. So the memories I had there are something I will always cherish and I pray that such days will always return and I get to have as much fun when I go back there.

Ashish.

Question-3: Write a diary entry, About a visit to an amusement park for a birthday party celebration.

Hints: Which amusement park did you go to? – Your experience in the amusement park?- Describe the birthday party you went to?

8th  March 2021, Saturday 5:00 pm

My friend’s birthday was splendid, and I can’t wait to share the story with you.

Raj invited me over to his birthday party held at WonderLa amusement park. I was greeted by my friend in the banquet hall. After the cake cutting ceremony all of us headed to a day filled with unlimited rides for as long as we wanted. Recoil, Flash tower, The Maverick and other such rides were full of thrill. I would definitely ride the Recoil on my next visit.

The party ended with a small magic show. The magician performed many outstanding tricks that left us all spellbound and curious. After the show ended I knew it was time to get back home, I thanked my friend for the wonderful time I had and I wished to come back here to experience such a thrilling day again.

Question-4: Write a diary entry, About a visit to an amusement park organised by your school.

Hints: Which amusement park did you go to? – Your experience with your classmates there?- Describe the events you enjoyed and experienced there.

4th  March 2021, Thursday 4:00 pm

I had an amazing visit to this amusement park with all my classmates.

My class was informed that we were going to visit WonderLa, which is one of the most well known amusement parks in the city. It was a wish come true. The rides there were amazing with kids my age playing all around. All of my classmates joined in the fun as well. My most memorable ride there was the Equinox. This daredevil ride at its peak position traveled upside down from a height of 16 meters from the ground, and everyone should at least experience this thrill once.

There were also rides like crazy cars, where we bummed against each other in our cars and all I saw was my friends laughing and enjoying together. Such rides made my school visit to this amusement park very memorable and I wish to visit as soon as I can.

The examples given here cover different scenarios regarding a diary entry on a visit to an amusement park, these examples will help you have a better understanding of diary entry structure. Hope you found this session to be helpful. Let us know your valuable opinion as well as suggest anything you want to bring to our notice in the comment section below. Thank you, hope to see you again soon.

Family Guy 's Gary Janetti to Publish New Essay Collection About Adventures Abroad: ‘You’re Welcome’ (Exclusive)

The writer’s latest book delves into his experiences traveling abroad

 Benjamin Askinas, Harper

Gary Janetti is reflecting on the ups and downs of travel in a new book. The writer and producer, 58, has shared, exclusively with PEOPLE, that his new essay collection is on the way. We Are Experiencing a Slight Delay will be published this summer by Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins. Janetti is taking readers on a romp through his worldwide travels in his latest publication. The writer will reflect on the “absurdity and glory” of his trips abroad, including a transformative stay at an Italian spa taken with his husband, celebrity stylist Brad Goreski , a family cruise on the famous Queen Mary 2 and a memorable dinner with Dame Maggie Smith .

The book will also feature the author’s meditations on places like Australia and Mykonos, as well as his own personal travel tips, like how to pack and get trip updates. Janetti will also dole out his personal restaurant recommendations.  Janetti is known for his work as a writer and producer on shows like Family Guy and Will & Grace . His viral Instagram captions, some of which imagined the inner monologues of Royal family members like Prince George , led to the 2021 premiere of his HBO show The Prince .

Janetti published his first essay collection, bestseller Do You Mind If I Cancel? , in 2019. The book detailed his young adulthood in New York, and his time working in a hotel. “It was the first time I was writing personally about myself, as opposed to writing through a character,” Janetti previously told PEOPLE of the book. “You have a bit of a distance — you’re protected by the [characters].” Janetti published his second essay collection, Start Without Me , in 2022.

We Are Experiencing a Slight Delay is poised to make the perfect travel companion, though Janetti says the book will still serve its purpose even if you’re staying home this summer.

"I spent the last year traveling and then wrote a book about it,” he tells PEOPLE of his latest collection. “Now you can go to all those places without having to leave your house. You're welcome."

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.  We Are Experiencing a Slight Delay will hit bookstores on July 9 and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.

Student Protest Movement Could Cause a Tumultuous End to School Year

Protesters were arrested at the University of Minnesota and Yale, and the House speaker, Mike Johnson, said he would come to Columbia to speak to Jewish students about antisemitism on campuses.

Protesters and tents fill a university lawn seen from an aerial view.

By Troy Closson

As a wave of pro-Palestinian activism on college campuses showed few signs of abating on Tuesday, the demonstrations have raised new questions about what shape the end of the semester may take for thousands of students across the United States.

At Columbia University, where the arrests of more than 100 protesters unleashed a flurry of national protests, students will have the option to attend their last week of lectures remotely for safety reasons. At the University of Texas at Austin, protesters announced plans to occupy a campus plaza and said that, at least for them, “class is canceled.”

And at the University of Michigan, administrators were already looking ahead and bracing for graduation. They set up designated areas for demonstrations, and agreed to “generally be patient with lawful disruptions.”

“Commencement ceremonies have been the site of free expression and peaceful protest for decades,” the university said in an online message, adding, “And they will likely continue to be.”

The steps are an acknowledgment that the last weeks of the spring could be among the most difficult for administrators at some of the nation’s most prestigious universities. On Tuesday, the campus police at the University of Minnesota took nine people into custody after they erected a protest encampment, following dozens of arrests at Yale and New York University.

Other demonstrations continue to emerge from coast to coast, including at the University of New Mexico and Emerson College. At California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, students took over a campus building, and barricaded the exits with chairs and trash bins.

The pro-Palestinian student movement has disrupted campus life, especially for Jewish students. Many have said they no longer feel safe in their classrooms or on university quads as the tone of protests at times has become threatening. Speaker Mike Johnson said he would meet with Jewish students at Columbia University on Wednesday and give remarks about the “troubling rise of virulent antisemitism on America’s college campuses,” according to a news release.

At the same time, many school leaders may face the possibility of graduation ceremonies transforming into high-profile stages of protest over the war in Gaza.

No matter how administrators approach these final weeks, the stakes are uniquely high for students who are graduating. Many graduated from high school in the first months of the coronavirus pandemic, and never walked across the stage or celebrated alongside their classmates.

The tumult on campuses escalated after Columbia’s administration called in the police last week to arrest student protesters who had organized a large encampment on a school lawn and refused to leave.

At the New School in Manhattan, where protesters have set up tents inside a school lobby, a couple dozen students formed a picket line on Tuesday as they chanted to the beat of a drum. When one student was asked how long protesters intended to continue the demonstrations, she said there was no immediate end in sight.

“We’re demanding something,” said the student, Skylar Schiltz-Rouse, a freshman who joined the protest on Monday. “So if it doesn’t happen, we’re going to have to keep going.”

It was not yet apparent whether the turmoil at schools would prompt additional arrests, or whether college leaders would adopt a less aggressive playbook as the semester winds down.

Many administrators, watching the uproar at Columbia, seem to be choosing other strategies to handle the protests. Several universities, including Harvard and schools in the California State University system, have shut down parts of their campuses in an effort to avoid major clashes and conclude the school year quietly.

“What you’re seeing is an inability to find spaces for dialogue and conversation and understanding,” said Benjie Kaplan, the executive director of Minnesota Hillel, a Jewish student group.

After school leaders often inflamed unrest with their initial responses, some have begun to hit the brakes.

At Barnard College, Columbia’s affiliate school, many student protesters had received interim suspensions for last week’s tent demonstration. But in a Monday night email, the school’s president, Laura Ann Rosenbury, extended an olive branch.

The school would lift most of the suspensions and restore students’ access to campus, she said, as long as they promised to follow the rules. Those who still face discipline would have access to hot meals, mental health counseling and academic support. And with a professor’s permission, they could also finish out the semester virtually.

“I strongly believe that exposure to uncomfortable ideas is a vital component of education, and I applaud the boldness of all of our students who speak out,” Ms. Rosenbury said in the email, her first message since the arrests of protesters on Columbia’s campus last week, several of whom were Barnard students.

“But,” she said, “no student should fear for their safety while at Barnard.”

She added: “In these last few weeks together before our seniors graduate, let’s be good to one another.”

Some pro-Palestinian students, though, may regard commencement as an opportunity.

Protesters at many schools have vowed to press on until their universities divest from companies with ties to Israel, often chanting “We will not stop. We will not rest.” Administrators are on high alert for demonstrations or threats, as tens of thousands of families travel to campuses in May and June to attend graduations.

Dagmar Michelson, a senior at the New School, was unsure if protests were planned for the university’s May 17 ceremonies. But if they are, she added, she would not be upset.

“It’ll be nice for those who haven’t recognized their privilege,” she said.

Earlier this month, the University of Southern California cited security concerns when it canceled a speech by its valedictorian , a first-generation Muslim student who questioned the university’s explanation. The school later said it would also not host outside honorees.

Already, students have organized demonstrations meant to disrupt cherished college traditions.

At Michigan, several dozen protesters took over a celebration for honors students last month, waving signs that read “Divest Now” and interrupting a speech by the university’s president, Santa J. Ono, according to The Michigan Daily .

“Protest is valued and protected,” Dr. Ono said in a statement after the event. “Disruptions are not.”

Shira Goodman, the senior director of advocacy at the Anti-Defamation League, said the disturbance at Michigan “may unfortunately be a harbinger for what’s to come.”

The group is concerned about the potential of harassment or “identity-based hostility” toward Jewish families at graduation ceremonies. “We remain deeply concerned,” Ms. Goodman said in a statement.

Some colleges are now stepping in to promise Jewish students a safe haven. Brandeis, a historically Jewish university in Massachusetts, said this week that it would extend its deadline for transfer applications in response to campus protests.

The president, Ronald D. Liebowitz, said the school would provide an environment “free of harassment and Jew-hatred.”

Other schools have had little time to look ahead to the future as they reel from the last few days.

At N.Y.U., where at least 120 people were arrested on Monday night after refusing to vacate a plaza, several students said on Tuesday that they would continue to voice support for Palestinians, and were unconcerned that their protest activities might upend final essays and assignments.

The university had said it turned to the police because “disorderly, disruptive and antagonizing behavior” of protesters created safety concerns. But on Tuesday, a professional faculty organization shot back.

The school’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors called “much of their account” false, referring to the administration, and criticized the decision to call the police as an “egregious overstep.”

And at Columbia, the university’s president, Nemat Shafik, is facing the threat of a formal censure resolution from the school’s faculty for her handling of demonstrations. Many Republican lawmakers are also still calling for her resignation, arguing that the school has failed to safeguard its Jewish students.

The decision to offer hybrid classes at Columbia seemed to be a tacit acknowledgment that many students were, at the very least, uncomfortable there. Many are expected to log on from their dorms and apartments. Others might attend from a large protest encampment that remained in the center of campus.

Along with the demonstration, occasional outbursts at rallies have occurred outside the campus’s gates over the past several days. But otherwise, Columbia has been quiet during what is typically a bustling final week of the semester.

Angela V. Olinto, the university provost, said in an email on Monday night that if even one student wanted to finish out the year online, professors should offer hybrid classes — or move to fully remote if that was not an option.

“Safety is our highest priority,” Dr. Olinto said.
