Essay on Water Scarcity

Water is the basic necessity of every human being, but water scarcity is a major issue that is rising very rapidly in India nowadays. The problem has become so severe that in many states the groundwater has almost dried up and people have to depend on water supply from other sources. In addition, water is one of the most misused natural resources that we still waste. It is the central point of our lives but unfortunately, not our priority concern.

Earlier, people understood the value of water and planned their lives around it. Moreover, many civilizations were born and lost around water, but today, in spite of having knowledge, we still fail to understand the value of water in our lives.

Reasons for Water Scarcity

Mismanagement of water and the growing population in our country are the two main reasons for water scarcity. There are also a number of other man made disturbances that continue to rise. Besides this, some of the reasons for water scarcity are:

Wasteful Use of Water for Agriculture

India, an agricultural country, produces a huge quantity of food to feed its population. The surplus that is left, gets exported outside.

It is not unknown that producing this much food requires a lot of water too. The traditional method of irrigation wastes a lot of water due to evaporation, water conveyance, drainage, percolation, and the overuse of groundwater. Besides, most of the areas in India use traditional irrigation techniques that stress the availability of water.

However, the technique of irrigation has changed during modern times and we provide water to plants using a sprinkler or drip irrigation.

Reduction in Water Recharges Systems

Rapid construction that uses concrete and marbles may not let the rainwater get absorbed in the soil, but still, we install some mechanism in our houses so that we can hold the rainwater. Then we can recharge the groundwater.

Lack of Water Management and Distribution

There is a need for an efficient system to manage and distribute the water in urban areas. The Indian government also needs to enhance its technology and investment in water treatment. Besides, we should ensure optimization at the planning level.

Solutions to Overcome this Problem

Close the running tap.

During dishwashing and hand washing people often let the tap run. These running taps waste thousands of liters of water per year. Therefore, closing the tap will reduce this problem.

Replace Dripping Taps

In India, it is commonly seen that most of the houses have taps or faucets that go on dripping water even when they are closed. This running tap wastes up to 30,000 liters of water that nobody bothers to change. So, we should replace these taps immediately.

Brief on Water Scarcity

Water is a basic necessity for every living being.  Life without water is impossible, not just for us humans, but for all plants and animals too. Water scarcity is an issue of grave concern these days as water scarcity has become very common. Water is one of the most wasted natural resources and corrective measures should be taken before the water scarcity situation becomes worse. In spite of being aware of the implications, not much is being done today.

In India, and across the world, it has been recorded that about half a billion people face a shortage of water for about six months annually. Many well-known cities around the world are facing acute scarcity of water. Many facts and figures are available to know about the water scarcity problem, but what are the reasons for this scarcity?

With the growing population, the use of water has increased manifold. The lack of more freshwater sources and the increase in population is a major reason for this scarcity. The lack of proper Water management systems and proper drainage systems in India, especially in the urban areas is a major cause too. Kitchen wastewater should be able to be recycled but due to a poor drainage system, this is not possible. An efficient water management system is required in order to distribute water in urban areas.

Another major issue is Deforestation. Areas with more greenery and plants are known to have good rainfall.  Industrialisation and urbanization are two major factors here. Due to Deforestation, and cutting down of trees, rainfall has become an issue too.

Rivers are a major source of fresh water in India. Today we see a lot of industries that have come up and all of them are mostly near the rivers and these rivers become highly polluted as a result of all the industrial waste.

Effect of Global Warming and Climate Change

Global Warming and Climate Change are also responsible for the scarcity of water. The melting of icebergs into the sea due to the rise in temperatures is a reason as to how salty water is increasing day by day instead of freshwater. The percentage of rainfall has decreased drastically these days. Climate change along with the decrease in rainfall percentage has greatly affected freshwater bodies.

Water scarcity has become a major problem and an alarming issue these days, and we must consciously strive to work together to find some solution to this issue of water scarcity. The Indian government today has formulated and come up with many plans on how to tackle and solve this problem.

To conclude, water scarcity has become an alarming issue day by day. If we do not take the problem of water scarcity seriously now, our future generations are going to suffer severely and may even have to buy this necessity at a high cost.

2. What is meant by the scarcity of water?

The scarcity of water means a shortage of water and not being able to manage the demand and supply of water. Water scarcity refers to the lack of freshwater bodies to meet the standard quantity and demand of water. Unequal distribution of water due to factors like Climate Change and Global Warming. Water Scarcity is also due to pollution and lack of rainfall. Water scarcity means a scarcity due to some physical scarcity or scarcity due to the lack of regular supply.

3. What are the two types of water scarcity?

Physical water scarcity is the result of regions' demand outpacing the limited water resources found in that location. According to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, about 1.2 billion people live in areas of physical scarcity and many of these people live in arid or semi-arid regions. People who are affected by this Physical kind of water scarcity are expected to grow as the population increases and as the weather patterns keep changing as a result of climate change.

Economic water scarcity is due to the lack of proper water infrastructure and a proper water management system or also because of poor management of water resources. The FAO estimates that more than 1.6 billion people face economic water shortages today. Economic water scarcity can also take place because of the unregulated use of water for agriculture and industry.

4.  How can we solve the problem?

Conscious awareness is required to deal with and understand the problem of water scarcity. We can start off by consciously saving water in our homes and surroundings.  Small easy steps like taking care when washing hands, or when working in the kitchen, have to be taken. The running water taps are a major reason for losing hundreds of liters of water on a daily basis. And we should be careful not to waste this water. Conscious decision to save and the need to understand the problem of water scarcity is of utmost importance.

5. How do we waste water?

Water is wasted in ways we do not even realize, in our homes and in our workplaces. When we brush our teeth, when we shave or when we wash the dishes, one of the most common things we do is to keep the water running, especially when running water is available. As soon as we begin cleaning or washing, we do not think of the water that is being wasted. While washing hands, we leave the water tap on, which results in wasting water too. Small things like these should be kept in mind and this could be our small step towards preserving water.

Essay 1 (250 Words) – Facts about Water Scarcity

Introduction

The human body is made up of 60% of water, which is more than half. Can you imagine if your body needs so much water then what about other animals and plants? Definitely, the percentage will differ in all of them; still, you can see the importance of water. I can say that we will die without water. All of us know how important water is then why are we so careless and don’t follow any steps for saving water? I have brought some facts about water scarcity and hope will provoke you to take some steps in water conservation.

Some Facts about Water Scarcity

  • Not only in India but across the world more than half a billion people face water scarcity for more than 6 months in a year.
  • There are many best cities in the world that are running a shortage of water.
  • Every person uses more than 90 gallons of water every day.
  • There are more than thousands of wells, borewells, and ponds dried in India.
  • More than 3 to 4 million people die every year just because of the consumption of polluted water.
  • Less than 1% of Earth’s water is good for consumption and the percentage is decreasing day-by-day.
  • More than a 100miilion people migrate due to drought as well as floods, every year.

The above data will definitely leave you thinking about the shortage of water. If you don’t face water shortage then you are blessed to live in a region where there is a required amount of water. But you should start taking some measures for water conservation; otherwise, soon there will be a day with no fresh source of drinking water on earth.

Essay 2 (400 Words) – Major Reasons for Water Scarcity

The world is continuously developing, we are developing and the nation is developing, development will be soon announced as the word of the decade. But all of us are so much concerned about developing ourselves that we have started neglecting some of our basic needs. Do you know what the important things we need to stay alive are? Of course, they are air, water, and food. We know the importance of these things still we care very less.

Reasons behind Water Scarcity

  • Growing Population : It will be not wrong if I say that every year the population is growing in an uncontrolled manner. The growing population also requires enough food, water to live. So, the use of water has been increased in an uncontrolled way. The freshwater sources are very less as a comparison of the population and this is one of the major reasons behind water scarcity.
  • Lack of Water Management System : There is no proper water management system in our country, especially in urban areas. We have bathrooms and whatever work we do the water goes in drains. There should be a different draining system so that we could reuse the water. Maximum kitchen wastewater can be recycled but due to improper water management systems, it is yet not possible for us. Apart from drainage, rainwater harvesting and other helpful factors are still red in books only. There are very few who apply those methods to save water.
  • Deforestation : Plants not only gives us oxygen but also food and are also responsible for proper rain. They play a very important role and it has been measured that places with more plants have good rainfall in comparison to areas with fewer trees. When there will be proper rain there will be no scarcity of water. The growing industries and urbanization are the main reasons for deforestation.
  • Dumping Waste : Most of the industries are constructed near riverside. Rivers are the major source of freshwater in India. These industries dump their waste in the river, not only industries but also human waste is dumped in rivers. As a result, they are polluted.

Everything needs care either it is air, water, or a relationship. We should always take care of our dear ones otherwise once you will lose them, it will be difficult for you to find it again. We cannot imagine life without water, not only humans, animals, plants, etc everyone needs water, still, we are so irresponsible. We should soon take some steps otherwise there will be a day when there will be no water to drink.

Essay 3 (500 – 600 Words) – Water Scarcity: Causes and How to Overcome it

Earth is known as a blue planet and today we are writing essays on the scarcity of water. Both are a bit contradictory but true. Although there is a lot of water on earth but very little to drink; a famous line of ‘The Rime of the Ancient Marine’ ‘Water-water everywhere but not a single drop to drink’ fits well. Which means there was water all around but was an ocean, which is salty in taste. The sailor in the poem was thirsty but was unable to drink the water around him. There are only 2 to 3% of freshwater sources on earth and the remaining is seawater.

Causes of Water Scarcity

There are different reasons behind water scarcity and I have mentioned them below:

  • Global Warming : It is one of the major reasons for many problems like pollution, a rise in temperature, water scarcity, etc. Due to global warming, the icebergs are continuously melting due to the increase in temperature. These icebergs are melting into the sea and as a result, the salty water is increasing day by day instead of freshwater sources.
  • Climate Change : There is a drastic decrease in the percentage of rainfall these days, which has directly affected our water bodies. Rain is one of the best sources of freshwater. We harvest rainwater and use it in multiple ways but due to the change in climate sometimes we face drought whereas sometimes we also face floods.
  • Reduced Ground Water : Due to the increased population and excess extraction of groundwater many water bodies like well, lakes have dried. Their number is decreasing day-by-day. At first, it was seen in urban areas but now a day’s villages are also facing this issue. And if groundwater is available somewhere it is polluted.
  • Pollution : We don’t care much about our rivers and lakes that is because we throw our waste in rivers. The very first thing is there is no water and what so ever is available we have polluted it. The very best example is the Yamuna River. It is nothing more than a drain now.

How to Overcome Water Scarcity

Our government has developed many plans for water conservation as I have mentioned some of them below:

  • Jal Shakti Abhiyan : For the conservation of rainwater and proving fresh water to everyone. To conduct various camps to teach people the importance of water.
  • Atal Bhujal Yojana : This is made for protecting the dying water bodies like wells, ponds, etc which also focus on the groundwater management system.
  • Jal Jeevan Mission : This scheme is to focus on water availability in the urban and local areas. And they also focus on the management of household wastewater for agricultural purposes.
  • Interlinking the Rivers : There is some Plateau river that dries in summers as a result people in that area face a lot of water scarcity. They are especially found in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, etc. So, to avoid drying these rivers there is a plan of interlinking the rivers. With the help of these rivers across the nation are interlinking and this has also reduced the water scarcity in summers in some special areas.
  • Water ATM : Nowadays these water ATMs are quite famous; they will give you a liter or a glass of water as per your requirement. These machines are customized in such a way that they won’t let extra water to fall. This helps to reduce the wastage of water, especially on the railway stations and public areas.
  • Rain Water Basins : Nowadays the government is concentrating on harvesting rainwater and big basins are made in villages and outer areas to save rainwater. These water basins are helpful in many ways. They increase the groundwater; they are also helpful in agriculture and in many other ways.

It is not only the government to bring such policies, but we should also follow some important measures and should not wastewater. Use if needed otherwise just off the tap and focus on saving water. Otherwise soon there will be a day when we will keep water in our safety lockers.

500 Words Essay on Water Scarcity

Water scarcity is a pressing issue that has been escalating over the years due to various factors such as climate change, population growth, and inefficient water management. It is a global problem that affects not only arid regions but also places where water seems abundant.

Understanding Water Scarcity

Water scarcity refers to the lack of sufficient water resources to meet the demands within a region. It is not just about the physical insufficiency of water but also involves the lack of access to safe and clean water. The United Nations recognizes it as a crisis, with more than 2 billion people living in countries experiencing high water stress.

Water scarcity is primarily a result of two key issues: increased demand and inadequate supply. Population growth and urbanization have led to a surge in water demand for domestic, agricultural, and industrial purposes. On the supply side, factors such as climate change, pollution, and overexploitation of water resources contribute to the problem.

Climate change leads to unpredictable rainfall patterns and increased evaporation rates, thereby affecting water availability. Pollution from industries and agricultural runoff contaminates freshwater sources, rendering them unfit for consumption or use. Overexploitation, especially through irrigation and damming, exhausts water resources faster than they can replenish.

The impacts of water scarcity are far-reaching and multidimensional. On a human level, it affects health and sanitation, leading to diseases and even death. Economically, it hampers agriculture, which is heavily dependent on water, thereby affecting food security and livelihoods.

Moreover, water scarcity exacerbates social inequalities as marginalized communities often bear the brunt of the crisis. It also has environmental implications, leading to loss of biodiversity and degradation of ecosystems. At a larger scale, it can lead to conflicts over water resources and mass migrations, posing threats to global peace and security.

Addressing water scarcity requires a comprehensive approach that includes both demand and supply-side strategies. On the demand side, it is crucial to promote water conservation and efficiency. This can be achieved through public awareness campaigns, water-saving technologies, and policies that encourage sustainable water use.

On the supply side, strategies include improving water infrastructure to reduce leakages, promoting rainwater harvesting, and implementing wastewater treatment and reuse. Furthermore, protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems can help maintain the natural water cycle and ensure long-term water security.

Water scarcity is a complex problem that requires urgent attention and action from all sectors of society. It is not just an environmental issue but a matter of social justice, economic development, and global security. By understanding its causes and impacts, and by implementing effective solutions, we can pave the way towards a sustainable and water-secure future.

Water is one of the most basic necessities of life and it is impossible to survive without it. Every living being present on the earth requires water for the proper functioning of their body. It not only helps us survive but also plays a significant role in our day to day activities. The earth itself is composed of 70% of water, however, not all the water is safe for consumption. Hence, we need to realize its importance and use it wisely. As we can see prevailing water scarcity in different parts of the world, so it’s high time we start conserving water.

Water has numerous uses and it is used extensively in agriculture as it is the main occupation of India. The process of irrigation and nurturing cattle require a large amount of water. Therefore, farmers make much use of water and largely depend on it.

Industries, on the other hand, require water for various purposes such as processing certain goods, cooling, and manufacturing. Also, thermal power plants make use of water extensively. In addition to all this, water is also used for domestic purposes such as for drinking, washing clothes, cleaning, gardening etc. Thus, we need water to run some of the basic functions of life.

Plants and animals need water to survive. Water is an essential component of life that helps one to survive and function properly. However, people are ignorant of the water scarcity and thus keep on exploiting this natural resource without even thinking about its consequences.

So it’s the need of an hour to unite together with the government and take remedial measures to conserve water for our future generations and to use it wisely before it’s too late. One must follow the guidelines provides by the government to save water and one of which is rainwater harvesting- a great way to save water and use it for various purposes.

Water is the most important natural resource made available by mother earth to the humans. It is essential for existence of life and maintaining ecological balance. Life on earth without water cannot be imagined and history is replete with wars fought between civilizations over water.

Although, earth constitutes 71% of water, only 2.5% of it is fresh water that we use, and we are wasting that too. The fresh water that we use today has probably been around since the beginning of life on earth. The amount of fresh water that the earth holds has remained constant, but the human pollution consuming it has increased manifolds; subsequently, leading to water scarcity. Adequate measure must be taken towards optimal usage of water and methods like rain water harvesting must be implemented in order to ensure future availability of one of the nature’s most valuable resources.

Three-fourth surface of earth is covered by water, but even though people are suffering from water scarcity in many regions of the India and other countries. The difficulties faced by the people in various regions due to water scarcity teach us to conserve and save water in order to protect the environment, save life and save world.

Water is the most essential source of life on earth as we need water in every activity like drinking, cooking, bathing, washing, agriculture etc. We should save water and should not contaminate it so that it remains available for the future generations also. We should stop wasting water and use it properly also maintain the proper quality of water.

Essay on Save Water 200 words

Water is a precious gift from Mother Nature to all the living beings on earth. We all understand the importance of water in our lives and could not imagine life without water. Everything on earth needs water like human beings, animals, trees, plants, insects, and other living things.

Why Should We Save Water

The balance of water on earth is maintained through the process of rain and evaporation. Three-fourth surface of the earth is covered by water; however it contains very less percentage of the clean water which is fit for human use. So, the problem is with the scarcity of clean water and if the quantity of clean water decreases then it might create major issues in future.

How Can We Save Water

We should join our hands together and take a pledge of using water according to the need without wasting it. We should also avoid the contamination of water by not throwing medicines or oils in water outlets. We should save water from being polluted and avoid the mixing of industrial wastes into the water. There should be proper waste management system which must be followed by everyone.

Clean water is very essential component of life, so we need to conserve water for the future safety. Clean water is not only a necessity of human beings but it is also important for the survival of other species. If we save water we will also be helping other species to survive on earth and help preserve the biodiversity of a place.

Essay on Save Water 250 words

It is already clear to everyone that water is very much necessary for the existence of life on earth. Our each and every activity is dependent on the water. Though we are surrounded by huge water bodies (around three-fourth of the Earth’s surface) on earth, but fresh water available on the earth is only 2.5% in the form of glaciers out of which only 1% is fit for drinking. So it becomes important for us to save water and avoid its wastage.

Causes of Water Contamination

Water gets contaminated from the waste materials of industries, sewage, toxic chemicals and other waste products. The main reason of water scarcity and clean water contamination is the ever increasing population and rapid industrialization and urbanization. The improper waste disposable system is also majorly responsible for the contamination of water.

Necessity to Save Water

As we know that there is already a scarcity of water so it becomes important that whatever quantity is available on earth should be used properly without any wastage. We should also raise the awareness regarding the ‘Save Water’ initiative so that we can preserve water for the future generations and also for other species that are surviving on earth.

Due to the clean water scarcity, people cannot fulfill their basic needs in many areas. According to the recent study, it has been found that around 19% of Indian population does not have access to fresh water. We need to join hands together to deal with the clean water scarcity through various best and most suitable methods with the motto “Save water, Save Life, Save World”.

Essay on Save Water 300 words

Save water or conservation of water has been very essential to maintain the existence of life on earth because no life is possible without water. Water helps in the continuity of life cycle on earth as earth is the only known planet having water and life. Water is the necessity throughout our life and it becomes our responsibility to save it. According to a report, girls in Rajasthan do not attend schools since they have to go long distances to bring water. Hence it becomes our duty to save water and avoid its wastage.

Effects of Water Scarcity

According to the survey by the National Crime Records Bureau, it was recorded that around 14.4% suicide cases in India were due to drought. Farmers commit suicide when they suffer severe loss due to lack of rains and scarcity of ground water. So, water scarcity also leads to poverty, suicides, migration and other social issues. Also the children in these areas are not able to achieve their basic right of education due to these issues.

How Can We Help To Save Water

We do not need to make extra efforts for water conservation; we only need to bring some positive changes in our daily activities. Ensure tight closing of the tap after every use, use bucket and mug for washing or bathing instead of using shower, close the running tap wherever you find one etc are little efforts which can bring a big change. A little effort from the end of millions of people can give a big positive result towards the save water campaign.

As a responsible citizen of India, we all should join hands for the cause and save water without wasting a drop of it. There is a true saying that a small effort of everyone can give a big result just like many drops of water form a huge water body like pond, river and sea. So let’s save every drop of water without wasting it because every drop counts.

Essay on Save Water 400 words

Save water is the water conservation through various means in order to maintain the supply of fresh and clean water. As the availability of fresh water sources are diminishing, water conservation or save water campaigns are very important so that fresh and clean water is made available to all the people across the world as well as for the future generations.

Causes of Fresh Water Scarcity

Large water bodies are getting polluted on daily basis by the industrial waste materials. The improper waste management has added to the issue. Pesticides and fertilizers have also contaminated water bodies and ground water. Irresponsible use of water and too much of water wastage have also reduced the availability of clean water.

Prevention of Water Scarcity

Proper water management systems should be implemented in all the industries, buildings, apartments, school, hospitals etc to make the efficient use of water without wasting a drop of it.

Awareness programmes should be run to let common people know about the importance of water and how it should be used in a limited quantity without wasting it. The young generation should also work to spread the awareness on saving water.

Rainwater harvesting should be initiated in all areas. It helps to replenish ground water and can also be used in various purposes.

How to Save Water

I have mentioned below some better ways to save water on daily basis:

  • People should water their lawns and gardens only when they need water.
  • Sprinkling is better than watering with pipe which can save many gallons of water per month.
  • Planting drought resistant plants is a better way to save water.
  • Leaky faucets and plumbing joints should be fixed immediately to save water and it may save around 20 gallons of water per day.
  • Use of bucket and mug is good to wash car instead of using pipe which may save up to 150 gallons of water each time.
  • Use of flow restrictions to the showers also saves water.
  • Use of fully loaded washing machines and dishwashers saves water around 300 to 800 gallons per month.
  • Using less water per toilet helps in saving more water per day.
  • Washing fruits and vegetables in a water filled pot instead of washing under the running water saves water.

Water scarcity has become a major issue in many parts of world and demand for water has increased six times past few decades. It is important that we start taking crucial steps in saving water available on earth. It is the responsibility and duty of every citizen of our country to use water in a responsible way and avoid the wastage of water because every drop of water we save will help others in their survival.

Essay on Save Water 1000 Words

As we all know that water gives life to us and other living things on the earth. It is very essential for the survival of human race and other species on earth. Without water, we cannot imagine the existence of life on any planet. Earth is the only known planet till date which has water and life, hence it becomes essential for us to conserve this resource which is the base of life.

The earth is covered with around 71% of water however only 1% is fit for drinking. The normal cycle of water balance runs naturally like evaporation and rain. However, the problem is with the availability of safe drinking water on the earth which is available in a very less amount and here is what the conservation of water comes in the picture.

Why we should Save Water

In order to know the answer of why we should save water, first we should know the importance of water and how water is valuable to us in our lives. Life is not possible without air, water and food. But most importantly, after air, water is the second most precious in all the three necessities for survival of life.

Now the question is how much pure water we have on earth. According to the statistics, it has been estimated that less than 1% of water on earth is suitable for drinking. If we estimate the ratio of drinking water and total population of the world, it would be, more than a billion of people all across the world are surviving on 1 gallon of water per day. It has also been estimated that more than 3 billion people would suffer water shortages by the year 2025.

Though people have started understanding the value of clean water, but they have still not started to save water. Saving water is a good habit and every one of us should try their best to save water for the continuation of life on this planet. Few years back no one imagined that water would be sold on shops but today it has become a common scenario. We can clearly imagine that, in the near future there would be shortage of clean water all over the world so water conservation is the only solution if we want to avoid this situation.

Some Facts about the Importance of Clean Water

Below are some facts which will help you to know how valuable the clean water is:

  • Around 3.4 million people in the world die every year due to water related diseases.
  • Developing countries are more prone to water borne diseases.
  • Printing of newspaper for a single day consumes around 300 litres of water.
  • Every 15 seconds a child dies due to water born disease in the world.
  • The packaged drinking water business is expected to reach $216 billion by 2025 globally.
  • People in the rural villages of India, Africa and Asia have to go long distances in order to get drinking water.
  • People in India highly suffer from various water born diseases which costs the economy to a great extent.

Ways to Save Water

There are few easy ways which helps to save water without changing your lifestyle. Single person in a home consumes around 60-100 litres of water per day in the household activities. Only 2.5% of the total water consumption is used for drinking and cooking on daily basis and rest of the water is used in other activities like watering plants, toilet use, bathing, laundry, showering etc and if we slightly reduce our consumption in these activities then we can definitely save a good amount of water.

Some of the water saving tips are as follows:

  • Everyone should understand their individual responsibility and try to save water as much as they can in their daily activities.
  • Rainwater Harvesting is one of the best way by which we can use rain water in various purposes and also help to replenish ground water.
  • Always use washing machines and dishwashers with full capacity as this cuts unnecessary washes in between.
  • Use bucket instead of shower to take bath, it saves around 100-150 liters of water every day.
  • Water the plants in the evening so that it doesn’t get evaporated and is used by the plant.
  • Turn off taps tightly wherever you see it running and immediately report water leakage to the concerned department.
  • Celebrate ‘Dry Holi’ with ‘gulals’ by avoiding water colors and save a huge amount of water.
  • Spread the ‘Save Water’ initiative in your neighborhood, localities and schools.
  • We should encourage our family members, children, friends, neighbors and co-workers to do the same from their end to get the positive result.

These tips will definitely help to save water but the most important thing is that it has to be followed strictly. Apart from these things we should also educate people and make them aware about the importance of water. We should also make them realize that water is scarce in nature and it has to be conserved and not wasted for a better tomorrow.

After air, water is the most vital resource which our Mother Nature has given to us. It is not only important to us but it is also essential for all the living species, plants and trees. It is also important for the sustenance of biodiversity of our planet and for food chain. The quantity of clean water is very limited and it is majorly available in lakes, rivers and ground water. Hence it becomes important for us that we conserve it so that it remains available in the future also.

The contamination and pollution of water is a common scenario nowadays which reduces the quality of water and makes it unfit for drinking. It is our prime responsibility that we should stop this and also spread the word of ‘SAVE WATER’ so that we can conserve one of the most valuable and vital resources not only for today but also for our future generations.

Essay on Water Scarcity for Students in English [Easy Words*]

January 16, 2021 by Sandeep

Essay on Water Scarcity : Poor water resources management and ever-increasing population have created a global water crisis. The value of water is undoubtedly undermined, and we see a lack of optimization and planning by authorities. Taps running dry in many areas are a clear indication of the alarming situation. The government’s huge demand-supply gap and apathy have further worsened the situation. Groundwater systems have almost dried up, and many areas don’t have access to clean drinking water.

Essay on Water Scarcity 500 Words in English

Below we have provided Water Scarcity Essay in English, suitable for class 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

Water scarcity means a lack of sufficient water supplies to meet water consumption demands in an area. Water stress, water shortages and water crises are all involved. While water stress is relatively newer, it is challenging to obtain freshwater sources to use over the long term. It could lead to further depletion and deterioration of the existing water resources. Water shortages could be caused by a change in climates, such as changing weather patterns, including droughts or floods.

Water scarcity can come as a result of two mechanisms: the physical (absolute) shortage of water and the economic shortage of water where the physical shortages of natural water supplies are a result of inadequate natural water resources to meet the needs of one country, and the economic shortage of water due to poor management of adequate water resources available.

Causes of Water Scarcity

The shortage of water is mostly a human-made activity because of excess population growth and water resources mismanagement. Some of the critical reasons for water shortages are:

India belongs to the world’s leading producers of farm products, and therefore the consumption of water for irrigation is amongst the highest. Traditional irrigation technology causes the most considerable loss of water due to evaporation, runoff, percolation, water distribution and over-use of groundwater. As more areas are subjected to conventional irrigation methods, the stress for water available for other purposes will continue. The solution lies in a broad application of micro-irrigation methods, including drips and sprinklers irrigation.

Rapid development is ignoring the conventional bodies of water that have also been a source of groundwater recovery. Traditional aquifers must urgently be rekindled, and new ones must be implemented. Government intervention is urgently needed at the source to address this problem. Lack of on-time de-silting in large water systems which can increase the potential for monsoon water storage is another reason for the scarcity of water. Shockingly, governments at state levels have not taken this up on priority as an annual practice. This alone will add considerably to the storage levels of water.

Rising concretisation due to urban growth that has chocked groundwater sources has exacerbated the problem. Water is not recharged or stored in ways that make its use efficient while retaining the natural ingredients of water. Besides, it severely reduces the availability of drinking water through the entry of waste and industrial waste into water systems. In these areas, marine life is already mostly extinct. This is the source of an emerging crisis that is very serious. We can never find sustainable solutions if we do not understand the source of the problem.

Solutions to Overcome Water Scarcity Problems

There is a large amount of water lost while washing the dishes at home. Our methods of washing dishes must be modified, and the habit of water running must be reduced. A small step here can make substantial water savings. The priority must be given to water infrastructure improvements as water conservation, and efficiency is critical elements in sustainable water management.

Title: Water – The Essence of Life

Introduction :

Water is the elixir of life, a precious resource that is vital for the existence of all living organisms on Earth. Covering about 70% of the planet’s surface, water is found in oceans, rivers, lakes, and underground reservoirs. It plays a fundamental role in sustaining ecosystems, supporting agriculture, meeting human needs, and shaping the landscape. This essay explores the significance of water, its diverse uses, the challenges it faces, and the importance of responsible water management for the well-being of our planet and future generations.

Importance of Water

Water is essential for the survival and well-being of all living organisms. It serves as a universal solvent, enabling chemical reactions that are crucial for life processes. Water is involved in cellular functions, temperature regulation, nutrient transportation, and waste removal in living systems. In addition to its biological importance, water also plays a critical role in maintaining ecological balance. It provides habitats for countless species, supports biodiversity, and influences the functioning of ecosystems.

Water for Agriculture

Agriculture is heavily dependent on water for crop cultivation and livestock sustenance. Irrigation systems deliver water to fields, ensuring the growth and productivity of crops. Water is essential for germination, photosynthesis, and the transport of nutrients within plants. Livestock farming relies on water for drinking, cleaning, and maintaining proper hygiene conditions. Adequate water supplies are essential for the health and well-being of both plants and animals in agriculture.

Water for Human Needs

Water plays a vital role in meeting various human needs. Access to clean and safe drinking water is crucial for maintaining human health and preventing waterborne diseases. Water is used for cooking, food preparation, and sanitation, ensuring proper nutrition and hygiene. Adequate sanitation facilities, including toilets and wastewater treatment systems, rely on water to prevent the spread of diseases and maintain public health. Moreover, water is used in industries for manufacturing processes, cooling systems, and energy production.

Challenges of Water Scarcity

Water scarcity is a pressing global challenge, particularly in regions facing population growth, urbanization, and climate change. Unequal distribution, overexploitation of water resources, and inefficient water management contribute to the scarcity of water. This scarcity can lead to social, economic, and environmental consequences. Reduced water availability hampers agricultural productivity, jeopardizes livelihoods, and triggers conflicts over water rights. Addressing water scarcity requires sustainable water management practices, water conservation efforts, and investments in water infrastructure.

Water Pollution and Conservation

Water pollution poses a significant threat to water resources and ecosystems. Industrial discharge, agricultural runoff, improper waste disposal, and the use of chemicals contaminate water bodies, compromising water quality. This pollution has detrimental effects on aquatic life, threatens biodiversity, and poses health risks to humans. Waterborne diseases, such as cholera and dysentery, are direct consequences of water pollution. To combat water pollution, stringent regulations must be implemented to control industrial and agricultural activities that contribute to pollution. Proper wastewater treatment systems and waste management practices are essential to preserve water quality.

Water conservation plays a pivotal role in ensuring sustainable water use. Rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation techniques, and public awareness campaigns promote responsible water consumption. Governments, communities, and individuals must work together to reduce water wastage, encourage water reuse, and protect water sources from pollution.

Conclusion :

Water is a precious and finite resource that is vital for all forms of life on Earth. Its significance extends beyond meeting basic needs and supporting ecosystems; water plays a critical role in shaping our planet. The challenges of water scarcity and pollution necessitate collective action and responsible water management practices. By valuing water, promoting conservation efforts, and raising awareness about responsible water use, we can ensure the availability and quality of water for future generations. It is our collective responsibility to protect and preserve this invaluable resource, safeguarding the well-being of our planet and all its inhabitants.

Essay On Water

More than 70% of the Earth is covered by water, which is essential to life as we know it. The human body contains up to 60% water. There is a lot of water on the planet, but not all of it can be absorbed by humans or other animals. It is sad that freshwater, which is portable and safe to drink, makes up only 3% of the world's total water supply. Here are a few sample essays on water.

Essay On Water

100 Words Essay On Water

Water is necessary for our survival as well as for a healthy and happy life. Everyone is familiar with the picture of people living in misery in nations without access to water, such as Africa. It's time for everyone to wake up and understand how important water conservation is. Without water, all of the vegetation on earth will perish and become a desolate landscape. Different seasons won't exist for much longer. The entire planet will experience one very long summer. Additionally, aquatic species will lose their habitat. That implies we won't be able to view any fish or whales. Most significantly, if we do not immediately practice water conservation, all forms of life will go extinct. In conclusion, it is imperative to immediately stop wasting water. Water conservation and ecosystem restoration require the cooperation of everyone.

200 Words Essay On Water

Our bodies are made up of about 60% water, and without fluids, we can only survive for three to five days. Water is essential for digestion as well as many other vital bodily functions, including cleaning out waste and controlling body temperature. Life is not possible without water. It is necessary for the health of our planet as well as for our own survival. Water is present in large quantities in all fruits and vegetables. It is important to drink plenty of water, or about 3 to 4 liters every day, to be healthy. Water is essential to human health and a shortage of it can have serious negative effects on wellbeing. Insufficient water consumption is a severe health issue that can result in kidney stones.

During my school days I witnessed many people wasting water while washing hands by not closing it after use and spilling water on the floor. Schools should provide proper water management and saving lessons to students to generate such social ethics governing their behavior. Water is essential for life and has the power to heal. Water and all the other necessary components for life are only available on our planet, making it the only place where life is conceivable.

500 Words Essay On Water

One of the most crucial elements for the survival of life on earth is water. Both humans and animals need it just as much. Water is important for our daily functioning in addition to just helping us survive. When we think about it, there are a lot of uses for it. Although water makes up the majority of our planet, not all of it is suitable for human consumption. It is crucial that we use this resource appropriately as a result. Water is a miraculous substance that gives life to germs, viruses, plants, animals, and other organisms. Furthermore, it is much more crucial to conserve water right away when we consider the water scarcity that is currently occurring in our nation.

Uses Of Water | India uses water extensively because agriculture is the country's primary industry. Water is essential for cattle rearing and irrigation. As a result, many farmers' livelihoods rely on it. Water is also used by companies for a variety of purposes. When manufacturing, chilling, and transporting various items, it is useful. Thermal power plants, for instance, use a significant amount of water to operate. Water is used essentially in all our daily activities ranging from washing our clothes to cooking our food. Moreover, living beings cannot exist without drinking water and will perish if we run out of fresh water supply which is already so limited.

Do Not Waste Water | People don't understand that water is very important but also quite scarce. They waste water, giving little or no thought to the consequences of their actions. There are many different strategies to prevent water waste. All homes must first have their leaking taps checked. They need to be fixed right away because every drop is valuable.

Similarly, when bathing, we must choose buckets rather than showers. It's important to settle this hotly contested issue. People must favor buckets because showers waste a lot of water. Most houses have this particular habit, which is fairly widespread—while washing dishes and brushing their teeth, people do not turn off their taps. Always keep in mind to turn off the tap while brushing teeth or washing clothes or utensils. A huge amount of water gets wasted when we leave the tap open.

Since water is a finite resource, it should be used responsibly. When I was at school, I saw a lot of people splash water on the floor after washing their hands by failing to close the faucet afterward. Students should learn good water management and conservation techniques in schools to develop the social ethics that will guide their behaviour. It is imperative that we as people be educated about water scarcity and its uses in a sustainable way. Not many people are aware of water being a finite source and therefore go about wasting it without giving it much thought.

For living things to survive, water is essential. Even while water naturally recycles, the amount of freshwater on Earth is quickly running out. All of this is the result of human negligence. Every day, we utilize water for a variety of purposes. But we're not making the best use of it. We use less of it than we waste. Water is rapidly evaporating as a result of this. It is past time for us to curb activities that contaminate the water and use it responsibly.

Short Essay on Water [100, 200, 400 Words] With PDF

In this lesson today, I will discuss how exactly you can write short essays on the important topic ‘Water.’ There will be three sets of essays in this following session, each within different word limits.

Feature image of Short Essay on Water

Short Essay on Water in 100 Words

Every living being on the earth needs some basic things for its survival. It includes food, water, shelter, and money as well for humans. Water is by far the principal need of living beings. About two-third part of the earth is covered with water.

Water is available in several forms on earth. Some amount is frozen in glaciers, while the larger amount of water is salty. Fresh water on earth is very little. We need water for every purpose. Drinking, cooking, bathing, washing are the basic needs, while water is also used by bigger industries to run their machines. Water is an important source of electricity. So, being the most valuable resource water must never be wasted.

Short Essay on Water in 200 Words

Water is the most significant resource among everything that humans and animals can receive. Water helps a living being to live for longer days, even when food is scarce. It is one of the most beautiful gifts of nature. Water has enormous benefits and is the life of the earth. Its medicinal properties cure several ailments in our bodies. Without it, we cannot imagine living a second on earth. The world will be a huge desert if the water on earth is destroyed.

Our earth is unique in its creation. About two-third part of it is covered with water, while the rest of it is land. If we take a deeper study, then a major part of the water is either frozen as glaciers or is present in the oceans as saltwater. The reserve of fresh water on earth is a limited amount. It can exhaust at any moment. Hence we must spend water wisely. We need water for drinking, bathing, washing clothes and utensils, cooking, cultivating, etc.

Big industries require lots of water to run their machines. Today due to the scarcity of coal, hydroelectricity is the new way of generating electrical power. This process requires huge amounts of water. In several ways, water is our saviour. It is the beauty of nature as a wonderful waterfall or a stream, and also the help to a thirsty person.

Short Essay on Water in 400 Words

Water is the basic strength behind all life forces on earth. It is the necessity of every life and is the biggest shelter for us to survive. If there is no water suddenly on earth, then it will only be a lifeless planet filled with dust and stone.

The green earth will become a long stretch of a desert without this component. Water forms about two-thirds of the earth, while only one-third is given for the land. Yet how much greater the amount of water on earth be, the availability of fresh water on earth is the minimum.

A large amount of water is left unused. It is either frozen as glaciers or is present as salty ocean water. This water cannot be applied for regular usage. So we must understand the wise utilization of water. It is a scanty but most important resource. So only its proper utilization can make it sufficient.

Water is the source of all activities in our lives. From the olden days, human beings have always tried to live near water bodies. Because those places are fertile for cultivation. A vast desert-like Egypt also survives because of the river Nile. The Ganges in India is not only a water body but one of the most sacred rivers in the world. The most important use of water is in agriculture.

Every plant needs it to grow. If crops do not receive adequate water, then they will be stunted. We use water for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing. A living body needs lots of water intake. Insufficient water intake can result in lots of ailments. Water is beneficial for this medical property. Besides these, all industries need water for producing electricity and running the turbines. Water is the potential of civilization. A civilization operates because of the availability of water

But at present, we are observing the pollution of water bodies. It is dangerous for all living beings to survive if all water sources are contaminated. Polluted water is a threat to the earth. Households, industries, insufficient cleanliness, lack of awareness, all are enough to increase pollution in several degrees. With increased consumption of water, it is being equally polluted. Thus many aquatic plants and animals, humans, other land animals are regularly dying after intaking the dirty water.

This is harming our ecosystem. So we must preserve freshwater. It is important and is available in little amount. Clean water can exhaust at any moment. It is our duty even to preserve the rainwater and use it. Every drop of water means life. A correct utility of it is the best way.

So, that was all about writing short essays on Water. In this session above, I have adopted a simplistic approach to writing all these essays for a better understanding of all kinds of students.
