‘కాంతార’.. కొన్ని రోజులుగా సినీప్రియుల కళ్లన్నీ ఈ కన్నడ చిత్రంపైనే ఉన్నాయి. రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి హీరోగా నటిస్తూ.. స్వీయ దర్శకత్వంలో తెరకెక్కించిన చిత్రమిది. ‘కేజీయఫ్‌’ సిరీస్‌ వంటి విజయవంతమైన చిత్రాలను అందించిన హోంబలే ఫిల్మ్స్‌ సంస్థ నిర్మించింది. గత నెలలో కన్నడలో విడుదలైన ఈ సినిమా భారీ విజయాన్ని అందుకొంది. అక్కడి ప్రేక్షకులు.. సినీ విమర్శకులు దీన్నొక క్లాసిక్‌గా అభివర్ణించారు. ప్రభాస్‌, ధనుష్‌ వంటి స్టార్లు సైతం సినిమా చూసి మనసు పారేసుకున్నారు. దాంతో ఈ చిత్రాన్ని మిగతా భాషల్లోనూ డబ్‌ చేయాలన్న డిమాండ్‌ ఊపందుకుంది. ఈ క్రేజ్‌ను దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకునే ఈ సినిమాని తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు తీసుకొచ్చింది ప్రముఖ నిర్మాణ సంస్థ గీతా ఆర్ట్స్‌. అది ఈరోజు థియేటర్లలో విడుదలైంది. (kantara review) మరి ఇంతలా అందరి దృష్టినీ ఆకర్షించిన ‘కాంతార’ చిత్ర కథేంటి? ఇక్కడి ప్రేక్షకులకు ఎలాంటి అనుభూతిని పంచింది?

కథేంటంటే: ఓ గొప్ప రాజ్యం.. అంతులేని సంపద.. అందమైన కుటుంబం.. ఇవన్నీ ఉన్నా ఏదో తెలియని లోటుతో మథనపడే ఒక రాజు. మానసిక ప్రశాంతతను వెతుక్కుంటూ దేశమంతా తిరుగుతుండగా ఓ అడవిలో అతనికి ఓ దైవ శిల కనిపిస్తుంది. దాన్ని చూశాక అతనిలో ఓ తెలియని ఆనందం. అంత వరకు తన మనసుని కమ్మేసిన చింత మొత్తం ఆ దైవ రూపాన్ని చూడగానే చటుక్కున మాయమైపోతుంది. అందుకే ఆ దైవ శిలను తనకు ఇచ్చేయమని అక్కడి ఊరి ప్రజల్ని కోరతాడు. దానికి బదులుగా ఆ అడవిని.. దానికి ఆనుకుని ఉన్న భూమిని ఆ ఊరి ప్రజలకు రాసిస్తాడు. ఆ సమయంలో దైవం ఆవహించిన ఓ మనిషి రాజుకు ఓ షరతు విధిస్తాడు. (kantara review) దేవుడికిచ్చిన భూమిని తిరిగి లాక్కునే ప్రయత్నం చేయకూడదని, మాట తప్పితే దైవాగ్రహానికి గురికాక తప్పదని హెచ్చరిస్తాడు. అయితే రాజు తదనంతరం ఆయన తనయుడు మాట తప్పుతాడు. తన తండ్రి దానమిచ్చిన భూమిని తిరిగి తీసుకోవాలని ప్రయత్నించగా.. కోర్టు మెట్లపై రక్తం కక్కుకొని చనిపోతాడు. కట్‌ చేస్తే.. కొన్నేళ్ల తర్వాత ఆ భూమి రిజర్వ్‌ ఫారెస్ట్‌లో భాగమని, దాన్ని ఊరి ప్రజలు ఆక్రమించుకున్నారని ఫారెస్ట్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ మురళి (కిషోర్‌) సర్వే చేస్తుంటాడు. అయితే అతని ప్రయత్నాలకు శివ (రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి) అడుగడుగునా అడ్డుతగులుతుంటాడు. దీంతో ఇద్దరి మధ్య గొడవలు జరుగుతాయి. (kantara review) అదే సమయంలో ఊరికి దొరగా వ్యవహరించే.. రాజ వంశీకులైన దేవేంద్ర (అచ్యుత్‌ కుమార్‌) తమ భూముల్ని తిరిగి దక్కించుకునేందుకు ఓ కుట్ర పన్నుతాడు. మరి ఆ కుట్ర ఏంటి? దాన్ని శివ ఎలా అడ్డుకున్నాడు? మురళీకి అతనికి మధ్య ఉన్న శత్రుత్వం ఎలాంటి సమస్యల్ని సృష్టించింది? ఊరిలో దేవ నర్తకుడైన గురవ హత్యకు.. వీరికి ఉన్న సంబంధం ఏంటి?  ఊరి ప్రజల్ని కాపాడటం కోసం భగవంతుడు ఏం చేశాడు? అన్నది మిగతా కథ.

ఎలా ఉందంటే: లైన్‌గా వింటున్నప్పుడు ఈ తరహా కథలు మనకు కొత్తేమీ కాదు కదా అనిపించొచ్చు. (kantara review) నిజమే ఇలాంటి సినిమాలు వెండితెరపై కొన్ని వందలు చూశాం. కానీ, ఇది మాత్రం చాలా ప్రత్యేకం. ప్రేక్షకులకు ఓ సరికొత్త అనుభూతిని పంచిస్తుంది. ఓ వినూత్నమైన ప్రపంచంలోకి తీసుకెళ్లి కదలకుండా కూర్చోబెడుతుంది. మట్టిపరిమళాలు అద్దుకున్న కథనం.. దాంట్లోకి దైవత్వాన్ని జొప్పించిన తీరు.. కథలో నుంచి పుట్టిన సహజమైన పాత్రలు.. ఆయా పాత్రల్లో పండే సున్నితమైన హాస్యం.. గుండెతడి చేసే భావోద్వేగాలు.. ఒళ్లు గగుర్పాటుకు గురి చేసే పోరాటాలు.. ప్రతిదీ సినీప్రియుల్ని కట్టిపడేస్తుంది. సినిమాని ఓ చందమామ కథలా ప్రారంభించిన తీరు మెప్పిస్తుంది.(kantara review) అడవిలో రాజుకు దైవ శిల తారసపడటం.. దాన్ని తన ఇంటికి తీసుకెళ్లడం కోసం ఆ ఊరి ప్రజలకు భూమిని రాసివ్వడం.. ఆ సమయంలో దైవం ఆవహించిన వ్యక్తికి, రాజుకు మధ్య జరిగే సంభాషణ.. ఈ ఎపిసోడ్‌ మొత్తం చాలా ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగుతుంది. ఆయన తదనంతరం యువరాజు తన ఆస్తి కోసం ఊరి ప్రజలతో గొడవ పడటం.. ఈ క్రమంలో దైవాగ్రహానికి గురై అతను మరణించడం వంటివి కథపై ప్రేక్షకుల్లో మరింత ఆసక్తిరేకెత్తించేలా చేస్తాయి.

శివ పాత్ర పరిచయ సన్నివేశాలు.. ఈ క్రమంలో వచ్చే యాక్షన్‌ ఎపిసోడ్‌ మెప్పిస్తాయి. ఇక అక్కడి నుంచి అతని ఊరు.. స్నేహితులు.. అక్కడి సంస్కృతి సంప్రదాయాల్ని చూపిస్తూ నెమ్మదిగా కథలోకి తీసుకెళ్లే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు దర్శకుడు రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి. ఫారెస్ట్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ మురళి, శివకు మధ్య గొడవలు ప్రారంభమయ్యాకే కథలో మళ్లీ ఊపొస్తుంది. ఇక మధ్యలో సాగే నాయకానాయికల ప్రేమకథ అంతగా రుచించదు. విరామ సన్నివేశాలు ఉత్కంఠభరితంగా ఉంటాయి. అయితే ఇంటర్వెల్‌ తర్వాత నుంచి కథలో వేగం కాస్త తగ్గుతుంది. ప్రతిదీ విడమర్చి చెప్పాలన్న దర్శకుడి ప్రయత్నం ప్రేక్షకుల సహనానికి కాస్త పరీక్ష పెడుతుంది. (kantara review) తమ పూర్వీకుల ఆస్తిని తిరిగి దక్కించుకునేందుకు దేవేంద్ర కుట్ర పన్నడం.. సర్వే పేరుతో ఫారెస్ట్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ మురళి చేసే హంగామా.. వీరిని అడ్డుకునేందుకు శివ చేసే ప్రయత్నాలతో ద్వితీయార్ధం సాగుతుంది. అయితే సినిమా మొత్తం ఒకెత్తైతే.. చివరి 20నిమిషాలు మరోకెత్తు. దేవేంద్ర వర్గానికి.. ఊరి ప్రజలకు మధ్య జరిగే యాక్షన్‌ ఎపిసోడ్‌ ఉత్కంఠభరితంగా ఉంటుంది. ఆఖర్లో తన పాత్రలోకి దైవం ఆవహించాక రిషబ్‌ కనబర్చే నటన రోమాలు నిక్కబొడుచుకునేలా చేస్తుంది. ఒకరకంగా ఈ ఎపిసోడ్‌లో రిషబ్‌ తన నట విశ్వరూపాన్ని చూపించారు.

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే: ఓవైపు నటుడిగా.. మరోవైపు దర్శకుడిగా సినిమాకి ప్రాణం పోశారు రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి. ఆయన నటన.. దర్శకత్వ ప్రతిభ ప్రేక్షకుల మదిలో చిరస్థాయిగా నిలిచిపోతాయి. పతాక సన్నివేశాల్లో ఆయన నటన శివతాండవంలా ఉంటుంది. సినిమా పూర్తిగా కన్నడ నేటివిటీలో సాగినా.. ఇందులోని భావోద్వేగాలు అన్ని భాషల ప్రేక్షకులకూ కనెక్ట్‌ అవుతాయి. కథలో వచ్చే ట్విస్ట్‌ను ఊహించడం పెద్ద కష్టమేమీ కాదు. అలాగే నాయకానాయికల ప్రేమకథ మరీ రొటీన్‌గా అనిపిస్తుంది. నాయికగా సప్తమి గౌడ చాలా సహజంగా కనిపించింది. ఉద్యోగానికి.. ఊరి ప్రజలకు మధ్య నలిగిపోయే పాత్రలో చక్కటి నటన కనబర్చింది. హీరో స్నేహితుల బృందంలోని చాలా పాత్రలు గుర్తుండిపోయేలా ఉంటాయి. అడవి గ్రామాల్లో పాత్రలు ఎలా ఉంటాయి? ఎలా ప్రవర్తిస్తాయి? అనేది సహజంగా చూపిస్తూ నవ్వించారు. అరవింద్‌ ఛాయాగ్రహణం, అజనీష్‌ నేపథ్య సంగీతం సినిమాకి ప్రధాన ఆకర్షణగా నిలిచాయి. పోరాట ఘట్టాలు ఆకట్టుకునేలా ఉన్నాయి. నిర్మాణ విలువలు చాలా బాగున్నాయి.

'Kantara' movie review: Rishab Shetty delivers a compelling and rooted film

Conflicts between man and nature have always provided enough fodder for our filmmakers to dole out one film after the other. Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, though dealing with the same concept, strives to be original and wins at it by staying rooted and realistic.

Even in his previous films, Ricky and Sa.Hi.Pra Shaale, Rishab expressed his flair for telling stories of the coastal belt of Karnataka. With Kantara, he further goes deep into the woods to talk about safeguarding forests even while delivering a compelling revenge-action drama with a blend of crime and divinity.

Kantara is set in a fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, and begins in the 18th century when a king exchanges a piece of land with his people and moves on to find peace and happiness. Centuries later, the same land becomes a threat to the tribals of that area., but they believe their demigods, doubling up as their guardians, protect the village. The story shifts to the 90s, and we see the face-off between villagers who dwell in the forests, and the forest officer who wants to clear any encroachment in the area.

Shiva (Rishab Shetty) lives a carefree life with his friends, and is often at loggerheads with forest officer Murali (Kishore), who just wants to uphold the law of the land. We also have a politician Devendra Suttur (Achyuth Kumar), whose misdeeds become his identity. But there is a bigger evil at work, and Kantara is about Shiva’s struggle to bring justice to the people of the village.

The film ends with an outstanding climax, which is definitely the USP of Kantara. There are multiple viewpoints in Kantara, and it is all wonderfully brought together by Rishab, who has written and directed the film too.

Rishab is only getting better with each film, and the backing of Hombale Films has allowed the filmmaker to make the movie more realistic. Even though it runs on the familiar territory of human-nature conflict, the chapters of Bhoota kola and Kambala make it unique. Every frame of the film is beautiful. DOP Aravind Kashyap lights up Kantara in vivid shades, and with able support from art director Dharani Gange Putra, gives Kantara a rather natural look.

Kantara also explores some serious issues like caste discrimination. While there is no separate comedy track, there are enough quirks in some of the characters to add to the fun quotient. The film brings in crisp narration, and extra credit should be given to the well-orchestrated action sequences.

Composer Ajaneesh Loknath is marvellous in Kantara. While his folk melodies are soothing, the background score accentuates the narrative of Kantara.

Rishab, the actor, is outstanding as Shiva, and breathes life into this rather unconventional character. He has undergone a mass and intense transformation for the role, and the effects are evident. Rishab’s performance in the nail-biting climax will definitely make the audience cheer and applaud for him. Sapthami Gowda as forest guard Leela, who is also Shiva’s love interest, delivers a decent performance in Kantara. Kishore and Achyuth too give powerful performances, and it is a joy to watch the former’s intense ego clashes with Shiva. Manasi Sudhir, Pramod Shetty and Prakash Thuminad too are decent with their acts.

With Kantara, Rishab once again creates magic, both as a director and an actor, and delivers an entertainer with a strong social message, and an even stronger final act.

A visually sumptuous, instantly immersive spectacle mounted with extraordinary vim and vigour, writer-director-actor Rishab Shetty's Kannada-language Kantara , now on nationwide release in Hindi and other languages, is a heady blend of history, myth, folklore, high drama and stylishly choreographed action neatly wrapped in a form firmly rooted in the cultural milieu it has sprung from.

Shetty is also the writer and lead actor of the film. As screenwriter, his output is probably just a touch shy of being perfect, but the script has enough heft and vibrancy to translate into a mass entertainer that is visceral, rousing and unwaveringly riveting.

A wide array of things makes Kantara the incredible film that it is, but the most prominent of all are the on-screen performers led admirably well by Shetty. He packs a punch that sends us reeling and continues to reverberate long after the film has run its course.

The film kicks off at scorching pace. The introduction of a divine spirit that watches over the forest and a stirring Kambala buffalo race within the first 15 minutes or so of the film set the tone. Getting accustomed to the sensory overload takes a while. However, once the two-and-a-half-hour film's design - both visual and aural - reveals itself in all its splendour, everything falls into place and draws the audience into the spellbinding Kantara (literally, mystical forest) universe.

The potent drama focuses on the fraught power dynamics, social and divine, that have forever been at play in a coastal Karnataka village where a seemingly benign feudal lord wields unlimited, unquestioned authority over the people. He decides what is good for the villagers. The latter go along.

It isn't servility that underpins the relationship between the master and his serfs. The key is loyalty. It has been built over decades of what feels like benevolence but may not be what it appears to be. Also central to the plot of Kantara is a conflict that arises from threats posed to the rights of forest dwellers over the swathes of land that have been their home for centuries.

In the lead role, Shetty brings dizzying energy to bear upon his performance as the buffalo race champion Shiva, a fiery young rebel with a cause. The young man has to contend with demons of his own mind - recurring nightmares in which he sees visions of the reigning deity in a wrathful avatar drive him to the edge of despair and a constant need to give vent to his rising ire.

His impulsive response to provocations put him on a collision course with the powers that be and his own mother, Kamala (Manasi Sudhir). She frets in vain over his compulsive hunting of wild boars - an act that is linked to the unsettling dreams that repeatedly interrupt his sleep - and violent confrontations with the landlord's henchmen.

The actor-director creates an electrifying larger-than-life figure whose volatile ways shape the frisson that pulses through the film. The young man, perpetually on a short fuse, is foresworn to protecting the village from forces out to rob the indigenous population of access to their ancestral land. Friction between him and government officials erupts because the latter are loath to accept that the forest belongs to the villagers.

Kantara , a film of phenomenal sweep and power, delivers a blindingly brilliant climax and a build-up to it that send the film soaring to the sort heights that only truly great commercial films have ever attained. The cinematography by Arvind S. Kashyap and the musical score by B. Ajneesh Loknath are magnificent. They work in tandem to create an impactful, out of the ordinary movie experience.

As tensions peak in the village and the forest's demigod (ritualistically celebrated in the annual Bhoota Kola ceremony) lurks in the background and is always ready to strike, the nature and dimension of Shiva's fight become clear.

Shiva's biggest foe is an upright deputy forest range officer Muralidhar (Kishore) who will stop at nothing to ensure that the government's writ runs. The landlord Devendra Suttur (Achyuth Kumar), Shiva's master and benefactor, makes common cause with the feisty young man. But are the powerful arbiter's intentions above board?

The opening moments of Kantara provide some broad historical clues. In quick succession, the script details the context of the present conflict. In 1847, the King, at the bidding of the Panjurli (boar) demigod, hands over a large expanses of land to the tribal denizens of the forest and is in return assured of decades of peace and prosperity.

Many generations later, the King's successor, driven by greed and drunk on power, wants all the land to be restored to the royal family. The deity, infuriated at the violation of the long-standing covenant, metes out instantaneous punishment to the offender. In 1990, the year in which Kantara is set, a government officer arrives in the village with a brief to wrest control of the forest land under his charge.

Legends and myths prevalent in the area and beliefs flowing out the forest dwellers' collective memory constitute the narrative crux of the story. The film is marked by a deep sense of the unique ethos of the people it is about.

Shiva, a Bhoota Kola ritual performer, represents a hoary custom but has passed on the mantle to a cousin because he was witness to the disappearance of his father while he was in the guise of the demigod. The loss still haunts Shiva and spurs him on to fight for the protection of his cultural/spiritual moorings.

Shiva is a virile defender of his people and their animistic philosophy, but he isn't the conventional, insuperable Alpha male that films such as KGF, RRR and Pushpa have brought back to the Indian cinema mainstream and made a box-office killing in the bargain. Kantara resists the temptation and is none the worse for it.

The climactic good-versus-evil confrontation - it isn't an ordinary hero-vanquishes-villain construct, catapults Kantara to an exalted plane. It offsets the one drawback that dilutes the film's a bit. Such is Shiva's halo that the characters around him - his friends and his girlfriend Leela (Sapthami Gowda) - are not quite as vivid as the other technical and narrative elements of the film.

In the light of the sustained overall finesse, anything in this film that is less than totally unblemished will count only as a minor false stroke on an otherwise impeccably realised canvas. Kantara , propelled by Rishab Shetty's blindingly good star turn and impressive directorial skills, is an insanely entertaining film. An absolute must watch.

అడవిలో ఒక ఊరు. ఆ గ్రామానికి భూస్వామ్య ప్రభువు (అచ్యుత్ కుమార్) ఉంటాడు. తరతరాలుగా పల్లె ప్రజలకు ఆ కుటుంబమే అండా. ప్రజలందరితోనూ మంచిగా ఉంటూ వాళ్లకు సమస్యలు వస్తే ముందు నిలుచుంటాడు ఊరి పెద్దమనిషి. కావాల్సిన సాయం చేస్తాడు. అతడికి కొన్ని పనుల్లో సహాయంగా శివ(రిషబ్ శెట్టి) ఉంటాడు. స్నేహితులతో కలిసి అప్పుడప్పుడు అడవిలోకి వేటకు వెళ్తాడు. ఇదే సమయంలో ఫారెస్ట్ ఆఫీసర్ గా మురళీ(కిశోర్) వస్తాడు. శివ చేస్తున్న పనులను చూసి స్మగ్లర్ అనుకుంటాడు.

శివ ఎప్పుడూ ఊరి కోసం పోరాడుతుంటాడు. చట్టం అందరికీ వర్తిస్తుందని చెప్పే మురళీ ఎవరికీ అండగా నిలబడేవాడు కాదు. అయితే అటవీ భూమిని ఆక్రమించుకున్నారని ఊరికి సరిహద్దులు పెట్టేందుకు ప్రయత్నం చేస్తాడు ఫారెస్ట్ ఆఫీసర్. శివ ప్రియురాలు లీల(సప్తమి గౌడ) ఫారెస్ట్ డిపార్ట్‌మెంట్‌లో ఫారెస్ట్ గార్డ్‌గా చేరి ప్రభుత్వ అటవీ భూమిని సర్వే చేయడంలో డిపార్ట్‌మెంట్‌కి సహాయం చేస్తుంది. ఈ క్రమంలోనే అనుకోని సంఘటన జరిగి శివ జైలుకు వెళ్తాడు.

ఇదే సమయంలో శివ చిన్ననాటి మిత్రుడు హత్యకు గురవుతాడు. దైవరాధన చేసే తన చిన్ననాటి మిత్రుడు చనిపోయిన విషయం తెలిసి జైలులో ఉన్న శివ తట్టుకోలేక పోతాడు. హత్య వెనక ఫారెస్ట్ ఆఫీసర్ మురళి ఉన్నాడని శివకు ఊరి పెద్దమనిషి చెబుతాడు. ఇంతకీ హత్య చేసింది ఎవరు? ఊరి పెద్దమనిషి ఎవరి వైపు? తన గ్రామం కోసం భూమిని శివ కాపాడుకున్నాడా? లేదా? అసలు భూమిని ఎవరు స్వాధీనం చేసుకోవాలనుకున్నారు? తెలియాలంటే సినిమా చూడాల్సిందే.

కాంతార ఎలా ఉందంటే:

కాంతారా అంటే అడవి అని అర్థం. లోకల్ కంటెంట్ తో ఈ సినిమా ప్రేక్షకుల మందుకు వచ్చింది. దక్షిణ కన్నడలోని భూత కోలా, కంబళ, కోళ్ల పందాలను చిత్రంలో చక్కగా చూపించారు. ప్రేక్షకుడికి కొత్త అనుభూతి కలుగుతుంది. కథలో ట్విస్టులు కూడా బాగుంటాయి. ఎక్కడా బోర్ కొట్టనివ్వకుండా ప్రేక్షకులను కట్టిపడేస్తాడు దర్శకుడు. ఫ్యూడలిజం, పర్యావరణ పరిరక్షణ, అటవీ భూమి ఆక్రమణల గురించి చెబుతూనే.. జానపద సాహిత్యం, భూత కోల, దైవారాధన, నాగారాధన, కంబళ వంటి స్థానిక సంస్కృతులను చూపిస్తాడు దర్శకుడు.

అటవీ సంపద స్మగ్లింగ్, గ్రామీణ నేపథ్యం, తీర ప్రాంతంలో తరతరాలుగా పాటిస్తున్న భూత కోలాను చాలా చక్కగా చూపించారు. ఈ సినిమాలోని కన్నడ భాష కూడా.. స్థానిక దక్షిణ కన్నడ యాసలో ఉంటుంది. కానీ స్థానిక సంస్కృతిని ప్రదర్శించాలనే ఉత్సాహంతో కొన్ని పద్ధతులను గ్లామరైజ్ చేసినట్టుగా అనిపిస్తుంది. కమర్షియల్ ఫ్రేమ్‌వర్క్ ద్వారా ప్రేక్షకులను మెప్పించే ప్రయత్నం చేశాడు.

కథ చూసేందుకు తెలిసినదే కదా.. అనిపిస్తుంది. కానీ ఎంతో భావోద్వేగంతో ముడిపడి ఉంటుంది. పల్లెటూరు, అడవిలో నివసించే.. ప్రజల ప్రేమ, అమయకత్వం, నమ్మితే ఏదైనా చేసే మనస్తత్వం.. గుండెను తాకుతాయి. రిషబ్ శెట్టి.. నటన, దర్శకత్వ ప్రతిభ స్క్రీన్ మీద కనిపిస్తుంది.

శివ పాత్రలో రిషబ్ శెట్టి ఇరగదీశాడు. ఎక్కడా రిషబ్ శెట్టి అని కనిపించదు. కేవలం పాత్ర మాత్రమే కనిపిస్తుంది. ఇమేజ్ అంటూ.. క్యారెక్టర్ ను ఎక్కువ చేయలేదు. ఎంత కావాలో అంతే రిషబ్ చేశాడు. సినిమాలోని ప్రతీ క్యారెక్టర్‌ అంతే. అడవిలో ఉండే స్వచ్ఛత, నిజాయితీ అర్థమైపోతుంది. ఇక లీలాగా సప్తమీ గౌడ కూడా తన నటనతో ఆకట్టుకుంది. తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకులకు పరిచమున్న కిషోర్ కుమార్ ఫారెస్ట్ ఆఫీసర్ ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. భూస్వామిగా అచ్యుత్ కుమార్ బాగా నటించాడు. ఇతర నటీనటులకూ వంక పెట్టడానికి లేదు.

ఇక కాంతార మూవీకి మ్యూజిక్, లొకేషన్లు ప్రధాన బలం. సినిమా మెుత్తం కలర్‌ఫుల్‌గా ఉంటుంది. అజనీష్ లోక్‌నాథ్ నేపథ్య సంగీతం కొన్ని సందర్భాల్లో రోమాలు నిక్కబొడుచుకుంటాయి. సినిమాటోగ్రాఫర్ అరవింద్ కశ్యప్ పనితనం కనిపిస్తుంది. కంబళ సన్నివేశాల చిత్రీకరణ అద్భుతంగా తీశారు. చివరి 20 నిమిషాలు సినిమా మిమ్మల్ని ఎంతగానో ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. కొత్త అనుభూతిని కలిగిస్తుంది.

The makers of KGF have now come up with a village drama titled Kantara. This Kannada film created a good buzz in the past few days and has been dubbed in Telugu. Rishab Shetty plays the lead role and directs it as well. So let’s find out how it is.

The film is set in the year 1847 in the Kundapur village of Karnataka. The King of this area is not happy with his life which lacks peace. He keeps trying to find it, and when he comes across a deity near a forest, he finally achieves peace. He makes an agreement with the villagers there and exchanges the forest lands for the deity. Years later in the 90’s, the trouble starts when the King’s successors demand the lands back. The forest department also becomes a problem for the villagers as they start encroaching on the woodland area. Shiva (Rishabh Shetty), an easygoing guy, takes responsibility and revolts against them. The rest of the film showcases villagers’ fight against the landlords and forest department.

Plus Points:

Rishab Shetty is completely terrific in the role of Shiva. He portrayed the emotions to perfection throughout the film. While his comedy timing provides ample entertainment in the initial hour, his performance in the climax will leave you definitely shocked. The fight sequences and the climax portions will blow our minds.

The first half of the film is thoroughly engaging, and the screenplay moves at a rapid pace without any slow movements. The production design is terrific and the arresting visuals will surely hold your attention.

The funny sequences involving Rishab Shetty and his gang evoke good laughs. The love track between Rishabh and Sapthami Gowda is handled very well. The actress looked alluring, and she did her part well.

Other artists like Achyuth Kumar and Kishore Kumar got good roles with more prominence to this story and were also fine in it. The action scenes are solid and give a high.

The proceedings in the entire film are rustic and showcased in a raw manner. There are a good number of goosebumps moments that will make the masses go crazy especially in the climax.

Minus Points:

After a racy and delightful first half, post-interval scenes start on a dull note with unexciting and tedious moments. The film is well set up, but the narration doesn’t remain effective as the film proceeds forward in this second hour.

It is only during the pre-climax and climax portions the film picks up in the second half. Things would have been much better had the scenes here been executed in an engrossing and engaging manner.

After a point in time, the movie becomes entirely predictable. A few scenes will surely remind us of films that came in the similar genre. The film’s length is another flaw, and as close to ten to fifteen minutes should have been chopped off without dragging it unnecessarily.

Technical Aspects:

Technically the film is simply brilliant. However, major credit must be given to Ajaneesh Loknath’s background score, which was scintillating. He is one of the biggest backbones of the film, without any doubt. Many scenes were taken to the next level thanks to Ajaneesh’s BGM.

The film’s production values are no less than any big-budget film, which is visible in every frame of the film. The rustic nature of the film is well-showcased by cinematographer Arvind Kashyap. The village and forest locations look so realistic.

Rishab Shetty’s direction is decent. His narration in the first hour is so interesting, while it is just okayish in the second half. He was able to extract first-rate performances from all the lead cast. His vision to portray the culture and traditions of Karnataka is appreciable.

On the whole, Kantara is a rustic village drama that has been narrated in a gritty manner. The film has a fair number of engrossing moments that will arrest you. Rishab Shetty’s remarkable act, and an adrenaline pumping climax are major assets. On the flip side, the film’s story is predictable and has a lengthy runtime. Barring this, the film also has good visuals and deserves a theatrical experience.

Kantara story is all about tribals, their beliefs in the forest, and how they try to protect them at any cost. Shiva (Rishab Shetty) much to the angst of his mother Kamala (Manasi Sudhir) doesn't practice their ritual and it is left to his cousin Guruva (Swaraj Shetty) to practice it. Trouble brews when Muralidhar (Kishore)Deputy Range Forest Officer (D.R.F.O) decides to follow the rules and bring the entire forest including the hamlet of the tribals under Government control. Where this leads to, what are the beliefs of the tribals, the connection to Leela (Saptami Gowda), Devendra Suttooru(Achyut Kumar), Sudhakara (Pramod Shetty), and others should be found out on the screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Kantara story penned by Rishab Shetty is about the beliefs of the tribals, their practices and the conflict between the honest forest officers and greedy influential people who try to take them for a ride. Rishab Shetty did not deviate from the subject at any time and he started the narration in an exciting and interesting manner and quickly paced the proceedings in a racy manner with his screenplay. The first half is blended with fun, romance, action, and suspense elements. The interval bang excites all setting the stage for the second half.

The pace in the second half dips with the romantic scenes and a few other scenes but the pace reaches new heights during the pre-climax and climax. The climax and the performance of Rishab Shetty blow the minds of all. Rishab Shetty emerged successful in coming up with an interesting story connected to the beliefs and practices and narrated it in a perfect manner.

Rishab Shetty turned out to be the soul of the film. He performed well as a careless son who doesn't bother about the rituals and showed variations as the trusted person of the village's influential person and as an innocent lover and then takes his performance to another level during the pre-climax and climax. Rishab Shetty showed his acting prowess in romantic scenes, action sequences, emotional scenes, and also in hilarious scenes.

Sapthami Gowda performed well in the role of a village tribal girl who works hard to get a government job and then goes into a dilemma about whether to support her own villagers or the forest department. Kishore in the role of a forest officer who is honest, and performed with intensity. Others like Achuth Kumar, Pramod Shetty, and Vinay Biddappa did full justice to their roles.

Songs tuned by Ajaneesh are situational and emotional. He scored thumping background music making a terrific impact on viewers and taking the narration and the scenes to another level. Arvind S. Kashyap's cinematography showed the village and tribal atmosphere and the forest scenes in a natural, realistic, and appealing manner. The editing of  K. M. Prakash and Pratheek Shetty is ok but could have been better as they left a few drags which slowed the pace of the film.

Rating Analysis

Altogether,  Rishab Shetty came up with an interesting story highlighting the beliefs of Karnataka and the border districts of Kerala people. His screenplay and direction elevated the story to new heights. He got the optimum out of all the cast and crew and he played the lead role to perfection. He singlehandedly carried the film on his shoulders coming up with a riveting and impactful performance. Altogether Kantara offers high-octane action sequences and intense emotional scenes with thrilling elements to movie lovers. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 3 rating for Kantara.

What’s it about?

South Karnataka. 1990. Shiva (Rishab Shetty) hails from a family of Bhoota Kola performers, a folk art form distinct to the Tulu region in Karnataka. He lives with his mother in their village, which is situated in a deep forest. Their village landlord Devendra (Achyuth Kumar) treats Shiva as his confidante and encourages his activities.

Despite his mother’s objections, Shiva frequently hunts wild boars.

Forest officer Murali (Kishore) imposes restrictions on the villagers, ordering them not to hunt the animals, drawing a line between their lands and the government’s, and insulting their rituals. Murali wants to protect the forest from encroachments, but he antagonizes the villagers with his rude act.

Shiva treats Murali as a villain and challenges him. Shiva firmly believes that the forest belongs to their tribe. But who tries to steal their lands from these people? When Shiva knows the truth, what does he do? How does their family’s tradition of Kola’s performance become his weapon?

Films like ‘Kantara’ (the Telugu dubbed version of the Kannada film of the same name. Kantara means forest) cannot be easily termed as another revenge drama. The story has many layers, and the narrative marries the myth and masala movie elements quite well.

The film has three timelines – 1847, 1970, and 1990. It begins with a king’s story and how the forest lands were given to the tribal people. It tells that the king’s decedents have become greedy a century later. But the main story is set in 1990.

Is the forest belongs to tribal people or the original owners (feudal lords) or the government? The film raises this question with its encompassing narrative.

After setting drama brilliantly in the first act – the king’s story, the village issue, the buffalo races, etc, the story begins to go in the manner of Sukumar’s ‘Rangasthalam’. The setting, the villain, the hero’s relation with the villain, and the one twist in the story… all remind ‘Rangasthalm’. But it takes a dramatic turn after the end of the second act. The final act of the film is brilliant and mesmerizing. The final sequence takes the film completely to the next level.

The myth, the folklore, and the masala elements blend so well in this portion that it gives us an enriching experience. There is a tradition of Bhoota Kola in Karnataka, which is similar to Sigam in Bonalu Jathara. A person gives god’s speech. This element is mixed with the revenge theme so well.

The director presents the protagonist as a man who has a habit of hunting boars. But he frequently sees god in his dreams. Varaha Murthy comes into his dreams. He also sees Bhoota Kola roopam. These elements have blended well into the final sequence. The regular masala movie elements get a new touch with this mythic quality. No wonder, the film becomes an immersive experience.

Despite many issues of generic sequences and lousy sequences in the middle portion, the film becomes watchable because of its final sequence.

Rishab Shetty delivers a stunning performance in the final act. Among other actors, Achyuth Kumar as the villain and Kishore as the forest officer excel.

The cinematographer should be commended for his work. His cinematography is terrific. His capturing of the Bhoota Kola performance and the initial buffalo racing needs special mention. Ajaneesh’s background score is another attraction.

Bottom-line: ‘Kantara’ is a different masala drama. Despite some issues, the film gives a new experience with its stunning and riveting penultimate episode. The climax portion is terrific and makes a solid watch.

Kantara movie review: A vibrant and mythical tale with just the right drama

Kantara is an important story that is portrayed stunningly with the help of folklore, and art that is native to the Kundapura area. Rishab Shetty has performed stunningly in an affecting film.

Hombale Films, the production house that bankrolled KGF films is back with a dynamic film called Kantara . It is a rooted, it is vibrant and it is performed so stunningly, that there are moments that leave you in goose bumps. The most important characteristic of this film — despite its flaws — is how it chooses to encapsulate the fight of the tribal community for their land. This is an issue that persists in India today, but filmmaker and lead actor in the film — Rishab Shetty —  has set the story mainly in the 1990s. The film does span three timelines, going back to 1890. It all begins like a fairy tale, and speaks of Kings and their lives.

One such, who had everything, including the blessings of his people continually felt empty within, and he sets upon a soul searching journey that leads him to the village that the film is set in. His journey ends with him surrendering his weapon and himself to the local deity, who guards the tribal community. He attains the peace that he had been in search of all this while in the presence of this goddess and he seeks the community’s permission to take her back to the palace.

This moment is indicative of how the royal families in the 1890s appropriated the tribal gods, but left the people behind. They went on to oppress these people, continued to enslave them and forced them to stay illiterate purely out of hunger for more power and greed. Caste system was upheld strongly, and the hegemony continued to stay strong for decades still.

However, the community in the film has a guardian angel, and that is their deity. She seeks a promise from the King, in return for his favour, She orders for the surrounding land — forest and all — be bequeathed to the people of the community. She also warns the king that if any of his future generations were to back away from this promise, they would face and unfortunate end. This is where the film gets a brilliant mythical tone. This deity that everyone believes in strongly keeps the community for decades. The film flashes forward to 1970.

This time period reiterates how people in positions of power abuse it. It portrays one of the King’s descendants lusts after the many acres of land. The value of the land has grown manifold in the years since, and all this man can see is money. He takes part in a popular local procession of the community that celebrates their deity. He sees a performance of Bhoota Kola (an animist form of spirit worship that is native to the costal districts of Tulunadu and some parts of Malenadu in Karnataka and Kasargod in Kerala). One wrong move by this descendent leads to his death. Yet, it also leads to the disappearance of the performer. It is his son — Shiva (Rishab Shetty) who inherits the talent for Bhoota Kola. However, after having witnessed his father’s disappearance first hand, he decides not take up Bhoota Kola, and instead begins to work for the dead descendant’s son who goes by “Landlord” in the film.

Shiva is the one who must deal with greed for money and for power in the present. How he grows up from a naive thug on hire for the Landlord, to a responsible adult who stands with his people is well-etched out and entertaining. The region that the story is set in, the people that Rishab has penned about in the film — its all his home ground. He developed the story of Kantara during the pandemic lockdown when he was home, after hearing the story of a performer from his son. So Kantara is as rooted as it can get. Especially, the sequences featuring Bhoota Kola are so stunningly shot by Arvind Kashyap that it induces goosebumps multiple times.

The music of Kantara is also a star of the film that not only supports the narrative but elevates it as well. The inspiration from local folklore of Karnataka, the local artists that were spoken to, and the ones who were also featured in the film add authenticity to the endeavour of adapting a folklore. It is a simple tale about a community reclaiming the lands that were originally theirs, owed to them by a man who bartered with them. It would have come across as uninspired, if not for the introduction of Bhoota Kola, and the myths that surround spirit worshipping.

Above all of this, what really takes the prize is Rishab’s acting. This is something that the director-actor’s friends had hyped up before the release of the film. However, the hype is real. The last 40 minutes of the film is where Rishab has truly outdone himself, and every moment is gravitating. There is no way you could stray away from the screen, not even momentarily.

There is but one complaint that I have of this film and it is the way Shiva woos Leela. It is understandable that the film is set in 90s, but pinching the waist, or using certain situations to touch her left me cringing in my seat. Leela’s character is not really one-note, either. Her struggles are interesting, but she never get the time to unpack it on screen. This is one of the few characters that truly needed more attention, failing which the film has fallen prey to the syndrome of portraying a female character as nothing but an attractive lamppost.

Overall though, this is film that one must watch just to understand the dynamics of a life lived in interior parts of Karnataka. There is Kambala, and Bhoota Kola, and then there is the story itself that rings true which is captured with stunning visuals. All of this, makes for a film that is definitely worth your time!

Rishab Shetty is one of the finest actors in Kannada cinema, for the first time he transformed into a filmmaker and announced ‘Kantara’ with himself as the main lead. ‘Kantara’ has been recently released and let’s see how Rishab handled the craft behind the camera.

The story is set in a fictional village, where Siva (Rishab Shetty), son of a Bootha Kola Performer, is a famed Kambale Athlete, who works under the biggest landlord of the village, DevendraSuttoru (Acyuth Kumar). Siva is a rebel, who loves his village and his people. Since the village is nearer to a forest, people there are used to visiting the forest for animal hunting/ vegetables/ fruits, etc., so much, the forest itself has almost become a part of their life. Things start to loom when a newly appointed Forest officer Muralidharan (Kishore) visits the village and tries to stop the people from going to the forest, restricting their rituals, citing they are harming the forest, this causes a feud between Siva and Muralidharan, that slowly threats the entire village’s existence, What follows next is whether Siva able to save his village or not.

Writing and Direction :

One will wonder whether this is actually Rishab Shetty’s debut as a director because the kinda powerful subject he has written and the impeccable command he showcases concerning the direction craft he has makes one truly astonish, he directs the movie with no energy drop in proceedings, the drama was that tightly written and superbly paced.

The seamless blend of humor in this serious subject was fantastic, especially in the first half the humor gels so well. It’s been a while since I laughed at the comical moments in a movie this wholeheartedly.

It’s a culturally-rooted movie, the tagline ‘Dantha Kathe’ means the stories that are very popular and passed through generations but are not authentically proven, such stories exist across many states, and Rishab wanted to tell one such mythical story with Bhoota Kola folklore (a spirit worship ritual celebrated at Dakshina Kannada side), the 3rd act of ‘Kantara’ deals with that and it’s so phenomenal, it haunts you for the days, it reminds you of the power that Cinema as an Artform has, and to what extent it can impact the audience. Entire theatre overwhelms by some unfathomable emotion there, it’s almost a transcendental theatrical experience, that much divinely the movie moves you there. Rishab Shetty gave a damnn brilliant debut as a “Filmmaker” in Indian Cinema.

Actors Performances:

Rishab Shetty as ‘Siva’ was magnificent, don’t wonder if he wins a National award for his performance in this movie, with such fiery conviction he displays his act in this movie. Kishore as Forest officer was excellent, he conveys the seriousness extraordinarily on screen. Acyuth Kumar also did a great job in the Land Lord’s character. Prakash Thuminad in his given comical role ‘Raampa’ was just superb, every time he appears in the movie, theatres will surely burst into laughter. He was that hilarious. Heroine Sapthami Gowda looked beautiful and performed decently.

Technical Departments:

The movie was quite exquisite technically. Cinematography by Arvind S. Kashyap was marvelous. The village in which the movie is set looked beautiful thanks to his lush visuals. Music by B. AjneeshLokanath was tremendous, he brought great life to visuals with his score on the screen. Editing by K.M. Prakash and Pratheek Shetty was pitch-perfect for the most part, had they cut some repetitive scenes in the first half, the movie would’ve been even better.

Few repetitive and unnecessary scenes could’ve been avoided in the first half.

Final Word:

Overall, ‘Kantara’ is a masterpiece that shouldn’t be missed in theatres. Watch it for the divine vibes it evokes in you in its last hour.

Kantara Movie Review: Mixture of myth and masala

The much talked about Kannada film, Kantara , has been released in Telugu by Geetha Arts. A lot has been said about the film, which has been produced by the makers of KGF. Let’s see how the film has turned out to be.

The story starts with the search for happiness, by an unhappy King. After trying several options and trying to find peace in many ways, he finds it in the statue of a God that he finds in the forest. He takes possession of the statue in exchange for the forest lands, after negotiating with the locals of the area. However, the real problem starts in the 1990s, when the King’s descendants want the land back. What happens to the land and to the statue forms the rest of the story.

Rishab Shetty deals with a regular story but the screenplay and narration of the story keeps the film at high. The way he handles the film is very impressive. Tribal people life and life-style, their emotion and affection towards god and motherland portrayed very beautifully.

Post- interval, the story unfolds actual crux and interestingly progresses towards a never seen on-screen climax.

The movie stresses on us understanding and knowing our origins and history, and mixed with the brilliance of filmmaking that is involved in the film, Kantara turns out to be a must watch for everyone. It has all the factors working in its favour, which makes it a must watch for everyone, in theatres.

Performances

Rishabh Shetty undoubtedly forms the soul of the film, with his impeccable acting range. From portraying a village guy in the 90s with his own agendas, to switching to a Godly presence and antiques when required, the actor has done a stellar job in the film. Saptami Goud is an asset for the film, and was perfectly cast in her role, proving the importance of casting local talents for any film. Achyuth Kumar and Kishore are apt in their roles as well, and even though one can easily guess the character arc of Achyuth Kumar’s part, he has done a fantastic job in it. Kishore has done a superb job as well. The rest of the cast is perfect in their roles, contributing just the right amount for the film.

Technicalities

Without doubt, the music director of the film, Ajaneesh Loknath, has done an outstanding job with his background score, elevating every single scene to the next level with his mindblowing score. Every scene stands out with the fusion of Carnatic music with haunting vocals.

The cinematography by Arvind S Kashyap is another asset for the film, as the cinematography adds a lot more layers to the film. The impact it creates is outstanding and makes the audience remember the film even after its end.

The production design and art work of the film are also very good. Another important factor that works in favour of the film is that the execution and screenplay of the film are simply superb. Even thought the film’s story is pretty routine, the screenplay and execution make the film interesting.

Kantara movie review in telugu: ‘కాంతార’ మూవీ రివ్యూ.

అయితే అక్కడ కోలం ఆడే వ్యక్తి ( ఓ వ్యక్తికి దేవుడు పూనడాన్ని కోలం అంటారు).. ఆ శిలకు బదులుగా ఆ అడవినంతా అక్కడ ప్రజలకు ఇవ్వాలని చెబుతాడు. దీంతో ఆ రాజు ఆ అడవి భూమిని అక్కడి ప్రజలకు దానం చేసి దేవుడి శిలను తీసుకెళ్తాడు. కట్‌ చేస్తే.. 1990లో ఆ అటవీ భూమి రిజర్వ్‌ ఫారెస్ట్‌లో భాగమని, దానిని ప్రజలు ఆక్రమించుకున్నారని సర్వే చేయిస్తుంటాడు ఫారెస్ట్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ మురళి(కిశోర్‌ కుమార్‌). ఈ నేపథ్యంలో ఆ ఊరి యువకుడు శివ(రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి)కి , మురళికి గొడవలు జరుగుతాయి. తమకు అండగా రాజ వంశీకులు దేవేంద్ర దొర(అచ్యుత్‌ కుమార్‌) ఉంటాడని శివతో పాటు ఆ ఊరంతా నమ్ముతుంది. మరి దేవేంద్ర దొర ఏం చేశాడు? ఆ ఊరిలో కోలం ఆడే దేవ నర్తకుడు గురవను హత్య చేసిందెవరు? శివ కలలో కనిపించే ఆ రూపం ఎవరిది? అటవి భూమిని, దానిని నమ్ముకొని బతుకుతున్న ప్రజలను కాపాడడం కోసం దేవుడు ఏం  చేశాడు? అనేదే మిగతా కథ. 

ఎలా ఉందంటే.. ‘కాంతార’ కథ వింటే చాలా సింపుల్‌గా అనిపిస్తుంది. పూర్వీకులు ప్రజలకు ఇచ్చిన భూమిని తిరిగి స్వాధీనం చేసుకునేందుకు వారసులు ప్రయత్నించడం.. దానిని అక్కడి ప్రజలు అడ్డుకోవడం.. చివరకు దేవుడు వచ్చి దుండగులను సంహరించడం ఇదే ‘కాంతారా’ కథ. వినడానికి ఇది పాత కథలా ఉన్నా.. కథనం మాత్రం చాలా కొత్తగా, ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగేలా జాగ్రత్త పడ్డాడు దర్శకుడు రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి. హీరోలను, టెక్నీషియన్స్‌ కాకుండా కేవలం కథ, కథనాన్ని నమ్ముకొని తెరకెక్కించిన సినిమా ‘కాంతారా’.  

సినిమా ప్రారంభంలోనే ప్రేక్షకులు ఓ కొత్త ప్రపంచంలోకి వెళ్తారు. కథంతా కన్నడ ఫ్లేవర్‌లో సాగుతుంది. అయినప్పటికీ అన్ని ప్రాంతాల ప్రేక్షకులు కనెక్ట్‌ అయ్యే కథ ఇది. అడవి ప్రాంతంలో ప్రజలు ఎలా ఉంటారు? వారి అలవాట్లు ఎలా ఉంటాయి? వేటాడే విధానం ఎలా ఉంటుంది? ఇలా ప్రతి అంశం కళ్లకు కట్టినట్లు చూపించారు. మొరటు ప్రేమ, కామెడీ బాగా వర్కౌట్‌ అయింది. అయితే వీటి కోసం ప్రత్యేకంగా ఎలాంటి సీన్స్‌ ఉండవు.. కథలో భాగంగా సాగుతాయి. దేవ నర్తకుడు కోలం ఆడే ప్రతి సీన్‌ ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. ప్రతి సన్నీవేశం చాలా నేచురల్‌గా ఉంటుంది. ఫస్టాఫ్‌ వరకు ఇది సాధారణ సినిమానే. సెకండాఫ్‌ స్టార్టింగ్‌లో కొంత నెమ్మదిగా సాగుతుంది. కానీ క్లైమాక్స్‌ మాత్రం సినిమా స్థాయిని పెంచేస్తుంది. ముఖ్యంగా చివరి 20 నిమిషాలు రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి తన విశ్వరూపాన్ని చూపించాడు. థియేటర్స్‌ నుంచి బయటకు వచ్చిన ప్రతి ప్రేక్షకుడికి రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి ఒక్కడే అలా గుర్తిండిపోతాడు. 

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే.. ఈ సినిమాకు ప్రధాన బలం రిషబ్‌ శెట్టి. దర్శకుడిగా, నటుడిగా వందశాతం న్యాయం చేశాడు. ఊరిలో అవారాగా తిరిగే యువకుడు శివ పాత్రలో రిషబ్‌ పరకాయప్రవేశం చేశాడు. ఆయన నటన సినిమా మొత్తం ఒకెత్తు అయితే.. క్లైమాక్స్‌ మరో ఎత్తు. ఆ సీన్‌లో రిషబ్‌ తప్ప మరొకరు అంతలా నటించలేరనేలా అతని నటన ఉంటుంది. కోలం అడుతున్నప్పుడు రిషబ్‌ అరిచే అరుపులు థియేటర్స్‌ నుంచి బయటకు వచ్చాక కూడా మన చెవుల్లో మారుమ్రోగుతాయి.

ఇక ఫారెస్ట్‌ గార్డ్‌గా ఉద్యోగం సంపాదించిన గ్రామీణ యువతి లీలగా సప్తమి గౌడ తనదైన సహన నటనతో ఆకట్టుకుంది. రిషబ్‌, సప్తమిల మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ బాగా వర్కౌట్‌ అయింది. రాజ వంశీకుడు దేవేంద్ర దొరగా అచ్చుత్‌ కుమార్‌ మరోసారి తెరపై తన అనుభవాన్ని చూపించాడు. ఫారెస్ట్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ మురళిగా కిషోర్ కుమార్‌తో పాటు మిగిలిన నటీనటులు తమ పాత్రల పరిధిమేర అద్భుతంగా నటించారు. 

సాంకేతిక విషయానికొస్తే...ఈ సినిమాకు మరో ప్రధాన బలం అజనీష్ లోకనాథ్ నేపథ్య సంగీతం. కోలం ఆడే సమయంలో వచ్చే బ్యాగ్రౌండ్‌ స్కోర్‌ రోమాలు నిక్కబొడుచుకునేలా ఉంటుంది. తనదైన బీజీఎంతో సినిమా స్థాయిని పెంచేశాడు. అరవింద్ ఎస్.కశ్యప్ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ చాలా బాగుంది.  విజువల్ వండర్ గా ఈ చిత్రాన్ని ప్రెజంట్ చేశాడు. నిర్మాణ విలువలు సినిమా స్థాయికి తగినట్లుగా ఉన్నాయి.

Paarijatha Parvam Review: Amateurish Kidnap Drama

Among the many new releases this weekend, "Parijatha Parvam" stands out for its notable cast.

Let us see its merits and demerits.

Story: Chaitanya (Chaitanya Rao) has been attempting to direct a film with a story that he believes should be his debut vehicle, and he is very particular about casting his friend (Harsha Chemudu) as the hero.

While many producers like his script, they send him away when they learn that he wants to cast his friend as a hero.

Chaitanya also admits that he based his story on Bar Seenu (Sunil), a wannabe actor turned bar owner.

After many rejections, Chaitanya decides to kidnap Surekha (Surekha Vani), the female partner of a well-known producer (Srikanth Aiyenger). So that he can make his debut film with the money he earns from his kidnapping. His girlfriend (Malvika Sateeshan) and his friend also help him.

Will this kidnapping attempt go well? How does Bar Seenu's story connect with Chaitanya's kidnapping attempt?

Artistes’ Performances: Chaitanya Rao is okay. Harsha Chemudu's acting has become rather monotonous. Sunil and Shraddha Das land better roles.

Sunil, who plays a wannabe actor and bar owner, adds some interest to the film. Shraddha Das is well-suited for this role.

Surekha Vani gets a character that is different from her usual stock of roles.

Technical Excellence: The film's technical and production values are comparable to those of a short film.

Highlights: Slightly better sequences in second half

Analysis Movies depicting failed kidnapping attempts or comedies centered around ordinary individuals trying to carry out kidnappings are not a novel concept.

Numerous films have repeatedly employed a similar structure with alterations on numerous occasions. "Paarijatha Parvam" is another such attempt.

But the new director, Santosh Kambhampati, lacks proficient writing abilities, thus failing to contribute any fresh elements to this existing template or present it in an engaging manner.

The film is purportedly a comedy, yet it fails to elicit any laughter. The first half of the film is so tedious that those who patiently await the second half are regarded as true exemplars of optimism.

“Parijaatha Parvam” features two interesting lines. "Everyone who resides in Krishna Nagar thinks they have written a great story," says the producer in response to the narration of the aspiring director (played by Chaitanya Rao). Similarly, Sunil, who experiences failure in his attempts to pursue an acting career, acknowledges that he has come to the realization that the jokes that his friends and relatives in the village find amusing does not appeal to the directors and producers.

While watching the film, we also share a similar sentiment towards the director of this film.

The film's only intriguing aspect is its portrayal of a kidnapping drama in which multiple groups assume they did the kidnapping. However, the true identity of the actual kidnapper is used as a plot twist.

The lack of good laughs and weak writing, combined with the boring narration, has tested patience. Though the second half of the film is slightly better than the first, it is clearly an amateur effort.

Overall, "Parijatha Parvam" is another boring film released during the summer holiday season.
