Elegant resume template for certified public accountant (CPA)

A job resume is a short, sweet, and to-the-point document that spotlights your professional experience. It’s basically a summary.

Whether you’ve been in the workforce for 15+ years, have no job experience, or are somewhere in between, resumes have been sparking fear and dread in job seekers since approximately 1482 when Leonardo De Vinci drafted what became known as the first resume .

Resumes are what just about any place of employment requests when you apply for a job. Companies—big and small—wanna know:

◉ What skills do you bring to the job? ◉ Do you have relevant work experience for the role? ◉ Do you want to work for them?

A good resume answers those questions—and isn’t so unlike De Vinci’s resume that honed in on how he could meet the specific needs and challenges of the Duke of Milan.

The best resume template is the one that complements your personality and allows the space you need to highlight your finest work, top achievements, and job skills.

Every resume template you see on this page has been thoroughly vetted by hiring experts to ensure they include everything you need to help you land your next job. Whether you’re applying to a funky tech startup or looking to join the ranks of a reputable law firm, you’ll find a professional resume template that speaks to you.

Hunting for a new job is incredibly stressful as there’s a lot of uncertainty in the process. And while these resume templates won’t alleviate all stress, they’ll ensure your resume has everything you need to sail through an applicant tracking system (ATS) and impress hiring managers.

Try saying “applicant tracking system” 10 times fast, and you’ll know why it got shortened to ATS.

At its core, an applicant tracking system puts the gas on hiring. Typically, when folks think about ATS software, they think about it weeding out resumes that don’t include the right skills or qualifications.

That’s certainly true enough, but the ATS also helps HR and recruiters organize and sort job candidates, keeps track of communication with job seekers, sets up interviews, and does a host of other not-so-fascinating things.

Basically, when you choose an ATS-friendly resume template from BeamJobs, you can rest easy knowing that the document itself will make it through the software

When it comes to your resume, it will house these staple sections:

◉ Contact info (Triple-check the spelling of your name; see the question about “how to make a resume” for a cringe-worthy BeamJobs blunder.) ◉ Work experience ◉ Skills ◉ Education

Depending on your occupation and years of experience, you could add these optional resume sections:

◉ Resume summary or resume objective ◉ Hobbies and interests ◉ Projects (an umbrella term for things like volunteer experience, academic or personal projects, etc.)

The more relevant job experience you have, the longer the “work experience” section of your resume should be since that’s what employers care about most. On the other hand, when you’ve recently graduated and don’t have much (or any) experience, things like education and projects can take up more real estate on your resume.

Whatever your professional background, our resume maker lets you re-arrange, remove, and add sections as needed to your resume template.

Not to blast our own horns, but we’ve reviewed tens of thousands of resumes in the last few years. Would you believe we’ve actually seen resumes without a name ?! Besides discovering disheartening news like that, we’ve figured out  how to make a good resume .

There are plenty of resume tips we could give you, but here are three that, when followed, will most increase your chances of snagging an interview:

Use numbers to showcase your impact in past roles. Your work experience should focus on your measurable accomplishments, not on job responsibilities.

Tailor your resume for each job you apply to, which means reading each job description carefully. As you read, see if any prior work projects come to mind. Include those projects on your resume.

Avoid grammar and spelling errors. We know, you’ve heard it before. But you’d be aghast (fun word) at the number of folks rejected for a job because of this. (C ough cough We won’t say his real name, but one of our team members whose title rhymes with re-bounder once sent out 20 resumes with his name spelled ‘Stepen.’)

One page—plain and simple.

While you might get away with a two-page resume if you’ve got 10-plus years of experience under your hat, keep in mind that recruiters and hiring managers aren’t giving your resume the time of day it deserves anyway. Instead, why not leverage a  cover letter maker  to explain some of those details you had to leave off your resume?

The most painful part of building a resume is editing yourself. How can your entire career fit into four or five bullet points for each job you’ve had? Here’s some good news: if you’re a senior engineer, it’s totally cool to drop from your resume the server job you had in college.

Even if you whittled the jobs you’d include down to three or four, try starting with a basic  resume outline . Fill it to your heart’s content; then, review every job experience bullet point individually and ask, “Does this point show my expertise and say something new?” If the answer’s no, exclude it. Before you know it, you’ll have a polished one-page resume.

Land Your Dream Job with PDF Resume Templates.

Crafting the perfect resume can seem daunting if you don’t know where to start. Fortunately, there are plenty of great resume templates you can use to make sure you include everything you need to land that dream job.

Black and white resume template with name, job position, contact details, skills, professional profile, and work experience, education and achievements in chronological order.

Many people start with Word resume templates, or download PDF resume templates, and then tweak and fine-tune a bit, add their personal information and they’re good to go. You can also create PDF forms to easily update and customize your resume and give that personal touch to individual applications.

What you’ll learn.

  • What a resume template is.
  • Reasons to use a resume template.
  • Choosing a resume template to match and market your skills and experience.
  • How to make your resume stand out from the competition.

What is a resume template?

A resume template is a pre-designed document that gives you the structure and layout ready for you to just fill in your information when you are applying for a new job. They’re also known as curriculum vitae or CV templates.

Resume templates are designed to help you include all the personal and contact information, skills, education and qualifications, and relevant experience you should include when applying for a job. In other words, everything an HR department or recruiter is looking for when they screen applications. The result of using a resume template is that you create a clear and easy-to-follow, but professional-looking, resume that showcases what you do and what you bring to a role.

The most common formats for resume templates are Word and PDF. Often job advertisers or recruiters will ask for resumes to be submitted in PDF format. That means they can be easily read by PDF reader software on any device and can be compressed to smaller file sizes.

Reasons to use a PDF resume template.

There are many good reasons to use a resume template.

  • Save your time and stress – Job hunting and applying for jobs can be stressful. Using a resume template will save you both time and stress. It’s a very simple, but effective way of making sure your resume is easy for others to read and includes everything you need to. You can then focus on the next steps, such as interview prep and how you’re going to speak to and expand on your resume in a face-to-face or phone interview.
  • Reduce errors and omissions – To err is human, and we all make typos and miss things from time to time. Resume templates will have the correct spelling and formatting of headings, you’ll just need to check your content.
  • Save your recruiters time and money – Employers, HR departments and recruiters receiving resumes from job applications often receive a lot in very short spaces of time. They need to be able to download and review the contents of resumes as efficiently as possible. This means resumes need to be laid out well, easy to read and make sense. Organizations often use electronic tools and tracking systems to speed up this process and to search for key skills and attributes.

Choosing the right resume template.

Choosing the right resume template is crucial. Yes, it’s about catching the recruiter's, attention that you’ve got the right knowledge and experience, but it’s also about showing that you’re potentially the right match for the company and the role you’re applying to. Make it look like you will be a good fit for their business or industry.

Select a suitable resume template design.

The different looks and styles in resume templates broadly fall into three design categories — classic, modern, and creative.

Find the right resume template by job type.

Resume templates can also be found already tailored to capture and present the relevant information for applying to jobs everywhere from the hospitality industry to IT, the financial sector, legal professions, engineering, construction, marketing, managerial, and more.

llustration of a series of people wearing clothing depicting different professions such as business, garden, trades, gardening, construction, medical, hospitality, sports.

Pick the best resume template to summarize your experience.

CVs or resumes usually present experience and education in one of two ways.

  • A chronological resume, or traditional resume, lists your experience and education in descending date order with the most recent first.
  • A skills-based resume, also called a functional resume, is more focused on the skills and attributes that you can bring than your employment history.

Stand out from the competition — resume template tips.

Resume writing is as much about sales and marketing as it is about summarizing for a potential employer who you are and what you can do for them. While you don’t want to choose a template or resume design to that’s too out of alignment with your role or industry in terms of look and presentation, you do want to stand out from the other job applicants. Some tips are —

Create and convert.

If you prefer to use or create Word templates for your resume, it’s easy to then convert to PDF. Simply drag and drop your Word doc to convert to PDF online for free or print to PDF from within Word with any of the Adobe Acrobat products or

Use keywords.

It’s not just internet search engines that use bots and AI to crawl through content and show top results. Many recruiters use tools to sift through electronic CVs before they cast a human eye over the content. Use keywords naturally throughout your resume that are relevant to your work, skills, and attributes.

Illustration of a woman and a resume page highlighting keywords of performance, responsibility, sociability and multitasking.

Keep it current and know your sector.

If it’s been a while since you’ve updated your resume, or you’re trying to get into a new field or sector, look at the trends in your chosen industry, and try out a few different templates to see whether they’re the right fit for you and how you want to present yourself.

Think of a resume template like how you would choose an outfit for a face-to-face interview – first impressions do count. If you wouldn’t wear the same outfit you wore to a job interview five, 10 or 20 years ago, don’t use the same resume template you used back then!

Customizing will count.

Tailor your resume each time you apply to a job to match the requirements outlined in an advertisement or job description with your skills and experience.

This is where PDF forms come to the fore. Create your fillable PDF form resume template that you can populate with your relevant skills and experience that match the specific role you’re applying to. Check it out in a free Acrobat Pro trial .

If you’re creative, have a website or online portfolio you want to drive people to, then check out interactive PDF resume features as well – and especially those you can bring in with an InDesign resume template.

Keep it simple and smart.

Using even the most basic and simple resume PDF template is a win-win. They can speed up your job search and application process and make it easier for recruiters to quickly review and assess your qualifications and experience. Templates make sure your resume is well structured, includes all relevant information, and is well presented. Be sure to choose a template that reflects your role and industry and check out the tips above for standing out from others. Good luck!

Frequently asked questions.

What are common mistakes to avoid when creating a resume.

There are a few common mistakes in resume creation, but they’re easily addressed. These include using inappropriate templates in terms of fonts and formatting, not customizing content, and missing spelling and grammatical and spelling errors. So, spellcheck, read out loud, and, if possible, have someone else look over your resume before you send it to ensure that it's polished and error-free. The right length of a resume is often debated – sometimes people say two pages max, while others say more is fine. Check out what is current practice for your industry and the country you are applying in.

What is a successful resume?

A successful resume should be clear, easy to follow, memorable, professional – and honest!

Are PDF resume templates safe and secure?

As with any electronic document, when you’re downloading or using templates only use those from a trusted source. Use antivirus software to check that document templates don’t have any malicious code before you open and use them.

In terms of the security of personal information, aside from your name and contact details, there usually isn’t a need for any other personal details in a resume. And in most countries, including Australia, there are laws around employers asking for irrelevant personal information during recruitment to prevent discrimination based on things like age, gender, marital status, ethnicity, and nationality. Your resume may pass through a few people during the selection process, so keep your personal information in your resume to the basics.

To prevent anyone else from making changes to your PDF resume template or the final PDF version of your resume that you send, use password protection to encrypt your information and restrict anyone else from editing the content.

For over 10 years now, I've been on both sides of the fence, career counseling, and recruitment, and let me tell you, the writer's block hits hard when it comes to drafting your resume.

Novorésumé not only offers you a smart and modern template for you to fill in, but their team has also crafted a winning combo of aesthetics and functionality that will inspire you to apply for the job you thought was out of your league. Give it a try!

Biron Clark

Former Executive Recruiter

Novorésumé is one of the few resume builders that I recommend online. Their resume templates are modern and eye-catching, and will grab an employer's attention. As a former Recruiter, if a candidate sent me a resume built with one of these templates, I would take notice and be impressed.

The software also makes it easy to enter your info and handles all of the formatting for you, so you can get your resume ready to send out as quickly as possible. I recommend these templates whether you're a recent graduate or experienced candidate.

Gabriela Tardea

Career Strategist, Coach & Trainer

When I consult people on resume writing, the most common question that I am asked it is about the content and what components to add or avoid, when they have less than 5 years of work experience.

On this platform, you not only have access to many options, but you get guidance on what to choose and why. When the work experience is less than 5 years, the other components such as languages, projects, volunteering experiences, hobbies etc, make a huge difference.

Resume Resources

What is a resume.

A resume is a brief summary of personal and professional experiences, skills, and education history. Its main purpose is to show off your best self to potential employers.

When applying for a job, you’re (in most cases) going to be asked for a resume accompanied by a cover letter.

If you manage to create a “good” resume, you’re going to 2x your chances of getting hired . Want to learn how? Check out our complete guide on how to make a resume .

How to Write a Resume for Your First Job?

The process of writing a resume might seem super scary to you. After all, most resume examples you see on the web are 80% about work experience. So, what the heck can you include in your resume if you have none?

Well, here’s some good news. If you’re applying for an entry-level job or an internship, no one expects you to have ANY work experience.

Instead, you should focus on what you DO have: education, projects, volunteering experience, hobbies & interests.

For a complete guide on how to make a resume with no work experience stand out, check out our article.

What to Put on a Resume?

The most common sections on a resume are:

Contact information

Resume summary or objective

Work experience

If you want to personalize your resume a bit more, you can also include the following sections:

Volunteering experience

Hobbies & interests

For more information on how to place these sections on your resume, check out our article on what to put on a resume .

How to Format a Resume?

There are 3 typical resume formats:

Reverse-Chronological Resume

Functional Resume

Combination Resume

In 99% of the cases, you’ll want to go with the Reverse Chronological resume format. That’s the format most resumes you’ve seen follow - its main focus is your work experience, written down in reverse-chronological order.

Unless you’re looking to create a career change resume , we’d recommend sticking with this format.

If you want to learn more about resume formats , check out our comparison guide.

How Long Should a Resume Be?

Ah, the most popular resume question in the world: “how long should your resume be?”

Short answer: one page. If you have a lot of work experience (10 years +), sometimes it makes sense to make it 2 pages MAX if everything you mention is super relevant for the position you’re applying for.

Long answer: check out our guide on how long should a resume be .

P.S. all of our templates are one-page resume templates, so you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble sticking to the one-page limit!

How to Write a Resume Summary?

Your resume summary is a “hook” that goes on top of your resume. Think of it as an introduction to the rest of your resume. It should, in 2-4 sentences, explain what your background is, and why it’s relevant for the position you’re applying for.

Want your resume summary to stand out? Use this proven formula:

“Professional [job title] with X+ years of work experience in [job responsibility] . In the past Y years, I have [your top 1-2 achivements] . Seeking a position of [job title] at [company name] ”

To learn more about how to create a resume summary that excels, check out our guide.

On the other hand, if you’re a student or just don’t have a lot of work experience, read our article on how to create a resume objective instead.

How to List Work Experience on a Resume

Work experience on a resume is one of those things that’s easy to learn, hard to master.

Each work experience entry should contain the following:

Position title

Company name/description/location

Achievements or responsibilities

Dates employed

Now, if you want to create a work experience section that stands out , you want to focus on quantifiable achievements. What this means is, instead of creating an entry like:

“Carried out sales operations”

You list an achievement:

“Hit and exceeded monthly sales KPIs for 5 months in a row.”

This shows the employer that you’re not just a random candidate, you’re an A-player! To learn more about how to list achievements in your work experience (and land the job), check out our article.

How to List Skills on a Resume?

Simply create a ”skills” section on your Novorésumé resume template, and list your top skills. We usually recommend going for a mix of hard and soft skills.

Not sure what skills to include in your resume? Check out these 101 essential skills for any resume .

How to Make a Cover Letter For a Resume?

Every job application asks for a cover letter (in addition to your resume). Here are some of our tips on how to do this right:

Customize your cover letter to the employer. The more personalized it is, the more likely it is for the recruiter to like you

Outline your general background (work experience, profession, etc.) and mention your top 2-3 achievements to show off your skills

If you really want to stand out, create a cover letter that matches your resume template. To do this, you can use one of our cover letter templates here.

If you want to learn more about how to write a convincing cover letter , check out our comprehensive guide.

What is the Best Resume Template?

There’s no such thing as “the best resume template” - every recruiter/employer has their own personal preference. Our general recommendation is to do your research on the company and what their values are.

For example, if you’re applying for a position at a bank, you’d want a more professional resume template. On the other hand, if you want a job in a startup where they value innovation more, you should stick to a creative resume template .

Finally, if you’re still not sure which type of template is right for the job you’re applying for, you can just use a simple resume template just to be safe.

How to format and structure your resume

Before you start adding content to your resume, it’s vital to get the format and structure right.

Here’s what the format and structure need to do:

  • Make the resume look flawlessly professional
  • Make it easy for recruiters and hiring managers to read and digest the information quickly

Here’s an infographic that gives you a quick overview of how to achieve this.

How to write a resume

Resume formatting

Stick to the following guidelines when formatting the resume:

  • Use a basic clear font – anything too elaborate will be difficult to read.

Resume fonts

  • Break the document up into clearly divisible sections using bold headings and borders.

Horizontal border highlighted

  • Break text up into bullet points and short sentences to facilitate easy reading. Avoid big chunks of text, they are a reader’s worst nightmare

Resume paragraph vs bullet points

  • Keep the color scheme basic, and don’t clutter the page with any images
  • Keep the resume at around 2 pages long – that gives you enough space to sell yourself without becoming a tedious read.

Resume structure

Your resume needs to be structured in a way that gives recruiters the information they need, in the order they want it. You can always use one our resume templates to get a head start on this.

Here is an overview of the sections your resume needs, in the order they should appear.

Name and contact details

  • Resume summary  – An introductory paragraph
  • Work experience – Your previous roles in reverse chronological order
  • Education and qualifications
  • Hobbies and interests – optional

Note: You do not need to add references to your resume – employers should only ask for them once they’ve made you a conditional offer.

Now. Let’s take a look at each of these sections and how to write them.

Head the resume with your name and contact details tucked up into the top right corner of the document.

It’s important that your contact details aren’t missed, but you don’t want to take up too much room with them – so keep them brief.

Resume contact details

You only need to include your name, telephone number, email address , and general location .

Don’t add your full address, date of birth , or anything else that is surplus to requirement at this stage of the application – they will waste valuable space.

Writing your resume summary

To ensure that your resume holds the attention of busy recruiters as they plough through all of the resumes in their inbox, you need a punchy summary to hook them.

Your resume summary is a short simple paragraph that sits at the top of your resume, and summarizes your abilities as a candidate.

For best results, it should be tailored to match the requirements of your target jobs as much as possible.

resume summary

The information you include in your resume will obviously differ depending on your profession and experience level, but generally speaking you should be giving a round-up of the following:

Your industry experience – What types of companies have you worked for and how much industry experience do you have?

Your professional skills – Are you sales person with talents in lead generation and relationship building? Or are you a data analyst with skills in reporting and number crunching?

Your qualifications – Are you degree educated ? Do you have any specialist vocational qualifications?

Problems you solve  – What is the ultimate benefit of your work? Do you help companies save money? Do you provide support to colleagues and customers?

Keep the summary brief to give readers a quick understanding of what you do – save the detail for your work experience.

Avoid using too many cliché terms in your summary (such as hardworking team player) They are generic and don’t give recruiters a proper understanding of your skills .

Cliches on resume

Quick tip: If you worry that your spelling and grammar might not be correct, try using our partner’s resume builder to eliminate the risk of making mistakes.

Adding your work experience

If you are an experienced candidate, the bulk of your resume should consist of your work experience.

Your roles should be listed from current to oldest, with lots of detail in recent roles, and less details in dated roles. This is because employers will consider your recent work to be much more important in determining your suitability, and so will want more information about your current/most-recent job.

Resume work experience

Roles form 5, 10 years ago or longer can be reduced down to 1 line summaries, or even removed if they aren’t relevant.

Structuring your roles

Your recent roles need to be well structured so that recruiters and hiring managers can skim read them and digest the information they need.

Use a structure like the example below to achieve this.

Role descriptions

Start with an outline to build some quick context for readers, showing them who the employer is, and what the overall goal of your role is.

Then bullet point your responsibilities to demonstrate your input into the role, whilst displaying as many important skills and abilities as you can.

Round the role off with some notable key achievements to show employers what impact you have made in the role.

Bonus tip: Quantify your achievements with facts and figure to prove how valuable your input has been.

Listing your education

Your education should be listed towards the end of your resume, simply listing your most relevant qualifications.

If you are an experienced candidate, you can keep this section short because recruiters will be giving your work experience more attention.

If you are a school leaver or graduate with little/ no experience , you will need to include more detail on your education to compensate for the lack of workplace skills. On top of your exam grades, it can be helpful to include modules, projects and positions of responsibility taken up within school.

If you have a technical role, such as a developer or electrician , you can also add a technical skills section.

Should you add hobbies and interests?

Hobbies and interests are an optional section which can help you to demonstrate skills gained outside of your work and education.

If you’re a junior candidate, or somebody with work-related interests, they can provide a great boost to the resume.

Hopefully this guide and example resume have given you a good idea on how to write your own resume .

Above all, remember to create a pleasant reading experience which quickly explains why you are suitable for the roles you are applying to. If you can do this effectively, you will get plenty of responses from your applications, and should be able to land the interviews you need.

Good luck with the job search!

Email Delivery

A resume template is used by prospective employees to apply for a role in a company. The fillable form allows the candidate to market their skills to the employer. As a first step in the hiring process, the business or firm reviews the information to learn about the applicant. It helps them decide whether to offer the person a formal interview.

The type of job determines the format of the resume. Each outline has a unique design or structure. Basic templates use one or two colors and a simple font. However, more complex options have bright, bold, or detailed text and images. The applicant should choose a resume that best represents the role. What is a Resume?

A resume is a form that allows applicants to list the reasons a company or business should hire them. On average, a job recruiter spends 7.4 seconds reading a resume. For this reason, prospective employees should keep the outline short, ensuring that they do not go beyond two (2) pages. If the candidate needs to include more information, they should wait until the first interview with the employer. The individual can also use the cover page to write additional details.

Each template has a unique style and/or theme. Nonetheless, the resume should have the following categories:

  • Full Name: Middle name and suffixes (Jr., Sr., II, III, etc.).
  • Professional Title: Official titles acquired through education (Ph.D., M.A., MBA, M.Sc., etc.).
  • Contact Information: Address, phone number, and email.
  • Objective or Summary: A powerful statement telling the employer what makes the candidate stand out from the rest and/or what would make them a good fit for the role.
  • Education: High school(s) and college(s) attended.
  • Job or Leadership Experience: Previous role(s) that make the applicant qualified for the position.
  • Qualifications, Training, or Awards: Relevant volunteer work, certifications, or recognitions.
  • Skills and Interests: Hobbies, talents, masteries, etc.

Resume Format Trends: Optimize Your Job Application in 2024

Choosing the right resume format can feel confusing. Your resume is your first chance to impress a potential employer . This article will guide you through the three main types of resumes and how to use them best.

Keep reading for insights that could transform your job search .

Chronological resume templates

A chronological resume lists your work history in order of time, starting with your most recent job and going backward. This format highlights a steady progression in one's career.

It is straightforward, making it simple for hiring managers to see your job trajectory and major accomplishments at each position. Employers often prefer this type because it clearly shows the candidate’s work timeline and growth.

In writing a chronological resume, start with your latest position and include the company name, location, dates of employment, and key responsibilities. For every job listed, focus on achievements that can be measured or observed.

Use action verbs to describe these accomplishments vividly. This approach helps potential employers understand not just where you worked but how you made a difference there.

Functional resume templates

The functional resume format focuses on skills and experiences instead of a chronological work history. This layout helps job seekers highlight their strengths without emphasizing gaps in employment or frequent job changes.

It groups qualifications into skill categories , making it easier for employers to see how the candidate's abilities match the job requirements.

Job applicants use this format to draw attention away from less relevant positions and toward what they can do well. They list their most impressive skills at the top, followed by their work history and education in brief sections.

This approach is ideal for those with limited work experience , changing careers , or with periods of unemployment .

Combination resume templates

Combination resume formats blend the best parts of chronological and functional resumes. They show off your skills and your work history. You start with a focus on your skills. These could be leadership, communication, or any other important skill for the job.

Then you list your jobs in reverse order , starting with the most recent. This format lets you highlight what you can do right away but also backs it up with where and when you did it.

Choosing this format means you get to play up both your experience and talents . It's great for people who have a mix of old and new skills, or those changing careers but still want to show relevant past work .

Now we'll move on to tips for writing each type of resume format effectively.

Tips for Writing Each Resume Format

Learn more about the best fit for your profile.

Pros and cons of chronological format

The chronological resume format is a traditional and widely used structure that emphasizes a job seeker's work history . This format lists employment experiences in reverse chronological order , starting with the most recent position. It allows potential employers to see a candidate's career progression and stability in their field at a glance. Below is a detailed look at the pros and cons of adopting a chronological resume format.

Employing a chronological format demonstrates a straightforward narrative of your professional journey. It suits stable, upward career trajectories best. Yet, it may not be the optimal choice for all, particularly those with gaps in their employment or career switchers. Always consider aligning your resume format with your unique work history and the positions you're aiming for.

Pros and cons of functional format

Transitioning from the chronological format, we now shift our focus to the functional resume format . This style emphasizes skills and experience over chronological job history, making it a distinctive choice for many job seekers. Below, we explore the advantages and disadvantages of employing a functional resume format.

Employing the functional format lets job seekers craft a resume that truly reflects their capabilities and achievements, focusing on their potential to excel in the role. Nonetheless, it's crucial to weigh these benefits against potential drawbacks, such as acceptability concerns among certain employers or industries. Choosing this format demands careful consideration of both individual career history and the expectations of potential employers.

Pros and cons of combination format

Shifting focus from the functional resume format, we now explore the combination resume format . This style merges elements of both the chronological and functional formats, emphasizing both skills and work history.

What is reverse-chronological resume

Reverse-chronological resume is a common resume format that focuses on your work experience in reverse order, starting with the most recent job and working backwards. This format is popular because it highlights your career progression and shows potential employers your most recent accomplishments. When formatting your resume, it's important to keep your resume layout clean and easy to read. You can use resume templates to help you create a professional resume in minutes. Whether you prefer a simple resume template, a modern resume design, or a creative resume template, there are many options available online for building your resume. Remember to also include a resume objective and relevant resume sections to make your resume stand out to potential employers.

When creating your reverse-chronological resume, you can use resume examples or sample resumes to guide you in formatting your resume. By using a free resume template or popular resume format, you can create a professional resume that will impress employers. It's important to format your resume correctly and keep your resume to one page if possible. Whether you choose a traditional resume or a more creative resume, make sure to read your resume carefully before submitting it to potential employers. With the right resume design and cover letter templates, you can create a perfect resume that will help you land your dream job in 2024.

1.tailor your application materials to each position you're applying for..

I've seen a startlingly high number of applicants send out a dozen applications to a dozen different job positions, all of which are formatted in the exact same way and have the exact same content.

A strong cv is one that is formatted specifically for the industry as well as the level of employment for which the applicant is applying. You don't need to go back and edit every single detail on your Harvard resume template pdf. Still, the document as a whole should highlight the abilities and experiences that would be valuable to a potential employer.

2.Ensure that your contact information is included.

According to the advice of Harvard's career specialists, this is one of the top five blunders that people make while creating their resumes.

Always remember to include your email address and phone number in every correspondence you send out. You can go the extra mile by including your LinkedIn profile (just make sure it's up to date) or a website that features examples of your previous work.

The followings should not be included:

A listing of references which includes: You don't even need to add references available upon request Because hiring managers will ask for this if you advance in the hiring process. References are available upon request.

A picture: It makes no difference how top your selfie game is; uploading a photo of yourself makes you appear unprofessional and may create unconscious bias.

Whether taking into account age or gender: Again, remember to maintain your professional demeanor. This is not your profile on

Tinder; it's a Harvard resume template pdf format.

3.Embrace the use of action verbs

Because your Harvard resume template pdf is a marketing tool, you should focus on using action verbs throughout. Steer clear of flowery and lofty statements like results-oriented, team player, great communication skills, or hard worker.

The objective is for you to provide detailed information regarding the actions you took in past roles that led to observable improvements in the outcomes of those roles.

Right for your Harvard resume template pdf

You might be wondering what the differences are between passive and active language.

When we speak in a passive voice, the thing being discussed is given the appearance of being the topic of discussion; in other words, events take place without the participation of any specific individuals. For instance, on the curriculum vitae of a fundraiser, you can come across the statement, The number of donations grew 50 percent.

On the other hand, active language always refers to a doer, which should ideally be you. For instance, on that same fundraising, one can remark, I boosted the amount of gifts by fifty percent.

In addition, the professionals from Harvard have painstakingly compiled a list of over two hundred dynamic verbs for you to include in your Harvard resume template pdf. Here is where you may download the complete content (pdf format).

If there is too much information or pictures in your resume, you can learn how to compress pdf to optimize your resume.

In 2023, everything is recovering from COVID-19.  I sincerely hope that was of some assistance to you after using WPS Office and creating a successful Harvard resume pdf format! You can also unlock PDF resume template with WPS Office.
