Speech On Parents - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

God has given us the most lovely and priceless gifts of our parents.

They have a significant impact on the growth of the body, mind, society, economy, and education.

Parents impart knowledge, lead us along the right path, and help us distinguish between right and wrong choices in life.

They pay attention to our issues and support us in making wise decisions.

They go above and above to ensure our happiness and safeguard us from any damage.

While a father provides direction and instruction, a mother cares for and protects her kid.

Parents put a lot of effort into giving us a good education and everything else in life.

When they watch us succeed in life, they are happy and proud of us.

They serve as protectors, nurturers, and guides, helping their children navigate the world and reach their full potential.

As our caretakers, parents deserve our respect as devout individuals.

Parents are the first and foremost teachers and role models for their children. They shape our values, beliefs, and habits, and they have a profound impact on who we become as individuals. They teach us right from wrong, provide us with love and support, and help us navigate the ups and downs of life.

Being a parent is not easy. It is a constant, challenging and rewarding journey that requires patience, sacrifice, and unconditional love. They have to make difficult decisions for their children and do their best to provide for their families, even when it means making sacrifices of their own.

Role of parents

Parents play a variety of important roles in their children's lives, including providing love and support, teaching values and life skills, setting an example through their behaviour, and making sacrifices for their family's well-being.

The role of a parent is both challenging and rewarding, and it requires a deep commitment to the growth and development of their children.

My heroes are my parents. They give me my power. In each of my life's crises, they support me. They hold a special place in my life. My parents are very dear to me. Every time I'm with them, I feel incredibly content and secure.

Parents play a critical role in the lives of their children, and the bond between a parent and child is one of the strongest and most important relationships a person can have. From the moment a child is born, parents are responsible for providing love, guidance, and support, and they continue to play an important role throughout their child's life.

Role of Parents

Parents serve as role models for their children, and their actions and behaviour have a significant impact on the development of their child's values, beliefs, and habits.

They are responsible for teaching their children right from wrong, instilling in them a strong moral compass, and helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in life.

Emotional Growth and Support by Parents

Parents also play a critical role in the emotional development of their children. They provide love and support, serving as a safe haven during difficult times and offering encouragement and guidance during the ups and downs of life.

Relationship Between Parents and Children

One of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of being a parent is the constant evolution of the relationship. As children grow and mature, their needs change, and parents must adapt to these changes. This requires a deep commitment and a willingness to learn and grow alongside your child. Whether it's through open communication, shared experiences, or simply being present, parents play a critical role in maintaining a strong and supportive relationship with their children.

Challenges faced by parents

Parents face a wide range of challenges as they raise their children and strive to provide them with the best possible life. Some of the most common challenges include financial stress, balancing work and family, lack of support, raising children with special needs, navigating and coping with new technology and social media, disciplining children, and balancing personal time and family time.

Real Life Example

I was always a curious child, and I loved asking questions about the world around me. My parents encouraged my love of learning, and they often took me on educational trips and adventures. When I was in the third grade, my class took a field trip to the local science museum, and I was fascinated by the exhibits on space and the solar system.

When I got home, I was eager to learn more, so my parents surprised me by taking me on a trip to the planetarium. My parents took the time to answer all of my questions, and they encouraged me to keep exploring and asking questions.

From that moment on, I was hooked on learning and science, and I went on to pursue a career in astrophysics. I will never forget the amazing experience I had with my parents, and I am grateful for their support and encouragement. I realised that my love of learning was a gift from my parents, and I am inspired to pass that love on to future generations.

This experience has taught me an important lesson. When parents are supportive, curious, and engaged, they can inspire a lifelong love of learning and help their children reach their full potential.

Thank You Speech for Parents in English for Students

In any child's life, parents play a very meaningful role. We never get chances in public to thank our parents, but when you really want to express your gratitude to your parents, there may be gatherings and occasions or some form of celebration. If you have ever wondered how to thank parents through speech, these speeches of thanks to parents will help you express gratitude and love for your parents, making a positive impression on the audience and your parents. Here, we have provided both Long And Short Thank You Speech For Parents.

Long Thank You Speech for Parents in English

Thank you, everyone, for gathering here and being a part of our celebration. As you all know, I will be leaving soon for my masters and I can’t thank you all enough for being there throughout with me.

I would like to thank my father for helping me understand what I was and am capable of, for giving me the strength I needed to follow my dreams, and for believing that I have the skills and potential to achieve my goals. There were moments when I gave up; it was only you who walked with me to provide me with the support that I needed. I still recall my childhood when, after returning from school, you spent countless hours helping me learn mathematics, the one subject that always terrified me. You showed me how to solve the sums so quickly. At that time, I didn't know that you would also play the same role for the emotional aspects too, today when I feel discouraged; you show me how to easily fix my problems and if any problem continues, you give me your shoulder to rest upon. You are the most important pillar of my life and my greatest strength.

My life, without my mother's contribution, is incomplete. For making me what I am today, I can never thank her enough. In all phases of my life, she has always been committed and helpful in every possible way. She cooks, she organizes my room, she makes everything available for me in the right place and at the right time, she says nice words of gratitude, and her feeling proud of me gives me immense courage and confidence to go ahead in life. And she does all of these, despite working day in and day out in her daily life. I constantly wonder, is my mom a superwoman? I assume that for an average person like me, it is not at all possible to do all that she does for us. Today, to celebrate my performance, I am standing here in the middle of all my loved ones. All this has been possible for my parents, who have been training me and been there with me throughout this journey.

They loved me, cared for me, trusted me when I was losing hope, stayed awake with me during my examination days, stayed awake to take care of me when I fell ill, guided me on the right path when I failed in my entrance examination.

I can't thank both of you enough for what you've done for me. I would be standing nowhere if it weren't for you both; it's going to be hard for me for the next two years because I might not get the comfort of your embrace, but we’ll stay connected through video calls and of course from the core of our hearts.

Short Thank You Speech for Parents in English

Greetings to everyone present here today. Thank you for taking out time to be a part of our celebration. It means a lot to me. As you all know, I will be leaving home soon to pursue my master’s degree. Today, I am here to thank each one of you for your support and wishes. Most importantly, I would like to thank my parents for everything.

Dad, you've always been the backbone of my life, I've never seen you cry in the darkest moments of your life. Apart from being my superman; you are also a human being with emotions and I realized that when I saw you getting emotional about my departure. Mom, you're the most amazing person on earth; you've always taught me to be kind to others. The greatest mantra of success that I have gained from you is patience and determination. You taught me to be considerate and told me to remain cool with someone in any kind of altercation, which led me to have a huge circle of friends.

Today, my life has a purpose and a goal, all because of your relentless effort and faith in me. I thank my parents today for their blessings and the constant support that they have been for me. There are not enough words to express how grateful I am to them for everything they have done for me. Today I am using this opportunity to thank my parents as we all have gathered here. Thank you for being the best parents a child could dream of.

1, 2, 3 Minutes Speech on Parents

Dear teachers and students!

Greetings to all. and thank you to all of you to give me chance to give a speech. I want to discuss with you today the value of parents in our life.

Parents are our primary defenders and careers, first and foremost. They spend all of their time and effort making sure we have all we need to grow and flourish from the minute we are born. They give us love, support, and direction as well as invaluable lessons that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.

However, parents’ responsibilities go much beyond simply providing for our fundamental needs. They are essential in developing our character and assisting us in becoming responsible, kind, and prosperous people. Parents have the ability to encourage and motivate us to be the best versions of ourselves, whether it’s through their advice, their deeds of kindness, or just by being in our lives.

But don’t lose sight of the fact that parenting is a difficult job. It necessitates endurance, selflessness, and unwavering love.

Parents deserve our respect and appreciation for their diligent efforts, as they frequently sacrifice their own needs to ensure that their children are cared for.

I would therefore like to express my gratitude to all parents out there. We appreciate everything you do and how important you are to our lives. Even if we don’t always express it, we sincerely value everything you do for us.

And to everyone else, always keep in mind to love, respect, and appreciate your parents for the priceless role they play in our lives.

I’m grateful.

Parents Thank you Speech

Thank you speech for parents – 1.

Dear friends,

I would like to thank you all for assembling here and being a part of our celebration. As you all know, I have been selected to accomplish a project in the UK; so for the next 2 years, I’ll be staying there. While, I am very glad and highly excited about the achievement, I am getting little emotional at the same time.

I would like to utilise this opportunity to thank the people who have been the pillars of my success. Most of you, including my colleagues, seniors and bosses have seen only the successful part of mine; my parents are the only people who have worked day in and day out to prepare me for the challenges in life.

I would specifically like to thank my father for making me realize what I was and am capable of, for giving me the strength that I required to pursue my dreams and for believing that I have the necessary skills and capability to accomplish my goals. There had been times, when I gave up; it was only you, who walked along with me to give me the much needed support. I still remember my childhood when you spent countless hours after returning from work and helped me learning Maths: the one subject that always scared me. You taught me methods to solve the problems so easily. I didn’t realise at that time, you will play the same role for the emotional aspects too, today when I feel disheartened; you show me ways to tackle me problems easily and if the problem persists, you give me your shoulder to rest upon my problems. You are the most important pillar of my life and the biggest strength that God has given me.

My father always said that our house was incomplete without the contribution of my mother. I can never thank her enough for making me what I am today. You have always been so dedicated and supportive in all stages of my life. You cook, arrange my room, make available everything at the right place and at the right time, say nice and appreciative words and feel proud of me. And you do all these, despite managing your work life. I often wonder, is my mother a super woman? I believe that this is not at all possible for an ordinary person like me. Today, I am standing here amidst all my near and dear ones in order to celebrate my success.

But this is all because of my parents who prepared me for this success. They have loved me, cared for me, trusted me when I would lose hope, stayed awake during my exam days for meeting my dietary needs, stayed awake with me when I fell sick, cried with me when I lost the medical entrance test.

I can’t thank you both enough for everything you have done for me. Without you both, I stand nowhere; the coming 2 years will be difficult for me, because I may not get the warmth of your hug, but I’ll stay connected through the technology.

Once again, thank you dear parents!

Thank you Speech for Parents – 2

Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Friends!

Welcome to the annual celebration of our Boarding School ABC. This is the day, which each one of us waits for, since this represents the closing of the school for the next 2 months when the children would stay with their respective parents, go on vacation or enjoy their holiday as per their wishes.

This year, I have been given the honour to deliver the annual day speech. I would especially like to utilise this moment to thank those people who have transformed my life – my parents.

There are not sufficient words to describe how thankful I am to them, for everything they have done for me. But that doesn’t lessen the value of my teachers. I am utilising this platform today to thank my parents as they have also gathered here. Parents do so much for us right from our birth till the end and I realised this only when I came to the boarding school. No wonder, the school has taught me discipline and to be self-dependent, but the importance of parents in life is eternal.

I am not making any comparison here; but today I would be biased and thank my parents for their blessings and endless support they have given to me.

Papa and Mummy, I want to tell you that I am not at all angry that you sent me here. I later realised, how judicious decision it was on your parts to send me to the boarding school because not only that I learnt to be an ideal child but I also made a lot of friends here. I want to thank you for showering endless love upon me in every situation. Thank you for explaining me with utmost love when I made silly mistakes. Thank you for being patient in listening to my every little problem over the phone and helping me to find their solutions.

Papa, you have always remained the pillar of my life, I have never seen you crying even in the darkest moments of your life. I always thought that my dad is a super human while that was not true; you are also a human being with an emotional heart and I realised that when I saw you getting emotional over my departure. You bought everything for me and fulfilled all my irrational demands.

Mummy, you are the most wonderful person in the world; you always taught me to be kind towards others. Patience and Persistence are the biggest mantra of ‘success’ that I learnt from you. You taught me to be considerate and advised me to stay calm in any kind of altercation with anyone, due to which I am loaded with friends today.

My life has a mission and vision today; all due to your endless effort and trust upon me. I understand, it was the toughest decision for you to send me to the hostel but you made it because you wanted to transform the irrational child of yours to a polite and considerate human being.

I have learnt a lot from you after being away from you; most importantly I have started valuing people and their efforts.

I can’t thank you enough for whatever you have done and still doing for me; yet I want to say ‘Thank you’ Mummy and Papa, I Love you!

Thank you Speech for Parents – 3

A very good morning to all!

Today we all have gathered here on the account of “Parents Day” and as a head girl of this school I would like to take this worthy opportunity to say a few words to thank my parents because they are the reason I am able to stand here in front of you. They are the only two people who supported me in all ups and downs of my life. Parents are the real blessing, which God gives us as they stand by us in every walk of life.

Parents play an important and a precious role in every child’s life. Utilizing this opportunity, I would especially like to thank my mother because it is only a mother who sacrifices and goes through a painful journey to raise her child. Behind every successful person there is a mother who is always ready to sacrifice anything just to see her child happy. A mother is a goddess who goes through a lot of pain and sacrifices her own blood to give us birth.

We all goes through many ups and downs, the only people who stood and will stand by us are our parents. There are many relationships we have in our lives, but they are flimsy most of the times and there is only one relationship that remains till our last breath and that relationship is what we share with our parents. Parents are the only people who never step back at the time when we need them and they are always there for us does not matter how difficult the situation is. This is the only relation, which we could rely on.

The person who supported me and taught me about conquering difficult situations of my life is my father. He is the only man who always tried to raise a conqueror out of me rather than suppressing me. He always supports me in every way, whether it is a mental support or financial support. He is the only man, whom I can trust blindly in every single second of my life. He always acted as a shield when I needed protection from difficult situation in my life. Don’t you feel safe when you are with your parents as I do? I feel like I am covered with a shield and no fear of drowning could come near me.

Unfortunately, not many children have this blessing and may be they could explain the importance of parents much better than me. I cannot imagine my life without my parents and it seems like a worst nightmare to me which I never want to see. I am very glad and thankful to God that he gave me the blessing called parents and I will try to give every happiness and comfort that they had lost just to raise me and making my future bright.

On this note, I would like to end my speech and extend special thanks to our parents for coming here to grace the event!

Thank you Speech for Parents – 4

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen!

Today our company has organized an event on account of “Parents Day” and as a manager it is my privilege to utilize this opportunity to say a few words for my parents. Actually, the words will fall short of its meaning when it comes to expressing our gratitude towards our parents as they are indeed the most precious blessing from God and cannot be replaced by any other relationship. They are the only two people who hold my hands whenever I need their support. They are reason, why I have been standing in front of you as a manager of this prosperous company.

I want to thank my mother for giving me my life and raising me by sacrificing her own happiness. We usually come to hear that there is a woman behind every successful person and yes, it is true because she is the mother. A mother is the most caring person we all have in our lives. Her sacrifices are infinite. She is the only person who goes through pain just for her child’s comfort. She always remains awake until I reach home. She is truly a goddess whose blessing always acts as a backbone for our lives. Without her support, it would be impossible for me to attain this position on which I am today. She deserves respect and equal credit for my success. There have been times when I faced complete emotional breakdown and a feeling of unrest due to the peer pressure of work; then she was the one who comforted me and brought peace to my mind through her optimistic attitude and kind words.

There are some points in life in which you need a hand which can help you getting out of your problems. My father is the only man who owns my trust and he never steps back when I need him the most. He is always there for my support. He prepared me for the difficulties that came in my life. He always acted as a strong support me which I can never forget. Right from academic years to my present job, he has always acted as an excellent guide. He provided me enough strength and positivity to raise my career to an outstanding height. He worked over time only to provide me with every comfort that I needed. They both kept awake at late nights to prepare me for exams and it’s not only my hard work but their utmost concern too that helped me accomplish my goals.

My parents are the actual reason for my success in my career and without them I would be nothing. It is completely unimaginable for me to think about a life without my parents but there are some children who do not have this blessing and are unaware of this love which we get from our parents. On seeing them, it feels very fortunate that I have a loving father and a caring mother. My only aim now is to provide my parents with the best of everything because they deserve the best after all such sacrifices they did for me.

On this note, I would like to conclude my speech. Thank you all for your patience and I wish you all a great day ahead!

Honoring Your Parents With a Tribute

The scene is forever etched in my mind. It was August in Ozark, Missouri. I was 18 years old and about to leave home. In the driveway stood Dad and Mom, about to face an empty nest.

For the first time in my life, I remember feeling an enormous sense of gratitude and appreciation to these two people who had given me so much of themselves.

As I looked them in the eyes, the emotion rose suddenly in my throat. I swallowed hard, fought off the tears and said, with a breaking voice, “Mom, Dad, I love you.”

It was the first time I had truly acknowledged the love and sacrifice they had shown in raising me. For 18 years I had been, for the most part, a self-centered, ungrateful receiver of their love.

That day I began to take responsibility to honor my parents for who they were and for what they had done right in my life.

An Honorable Tribute

My father died in 1976 of a massive heart attack. There were no warnings, no goodbyes. Sixty-six years of life were summed up in a 30-minute memorial. It was meaningful, but it still bothered me — it seemed too brief a remembrance for all he meant to us.

Dad was a great man: Impeccable character. Quiet. Hardworking. The most influential man in my life. I wondered, Did he really know how I felt?

I had worked hard to express my love to him for several years, but words seemed so hollow. Had I really honored him as I should have?

I pledged then that I would not wait until Mom died to let her know about my feelings for her. So I began working on a written tribute — a formal document that publicly proclaimed my gratitude for what she did right, for the positive qualities and values she passed on to me.

As I jotted down memories, tears splattered the legal pad as I recounted lessons she taught me and fun times we shared.

I knew she would like it, but I was unprepared for the depth of her appreciation. She hung the tribute above the table where she ate all her meals. She shared it with family, the television repairman, the plumber and countless others who passed through her kitchen.

The results of honoring my mom with a tribute were so encouraging that I began to challenge others to write tributes of their own.

Weighed Down With Respect

The verb “honor,” according to Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, means to regard with respect. In Exodus 20:12, God commands, “Honor your father and your mother” (New American Standard Bible). In the original Hebrew language, the word for “honor” meant “to make weighty.”

That is what a tribute accomplishes — “weighing down” a parent with honor, respect and dignity.

God commands us to honor our parents regardless of their performance, behavior or dysfunction. For some of us, honoring our parents may be a spiritual barometer for our relationship with God. If we want to walk in His ways and experience His love and power, then we need to obey His commands.

Honoring your parents isn’t approving of their wrong choices, endorsing irresponsibility or denying what they’ve done wrong. But it is choosing to place great value on your relationship with them, taking initiative to improve the relationship and seeing them through the eyes of Christ.

If we honor our parents, there are the benefits of better communication, the possibility of peace with them and greater freedom in relationship with them.

Give Hope and Encouragement to Your Parents

“I never felt that my mother treated me like an adult,” says Diane. To Diane’s mother, there was only one way to do things — her way. So over the years, Diane began to withdraw from her.

Diane’s feelings began to change, however, when she heard about writing a tribute for her parents. As she wrote, God slowly gave her a different perspective. As her mother read the tribute, she immediately broke down in tears.

“I think part of the problem,” says Diane, “was that all those years, while I was feeling she didn’t respect me, she didn’t feel any respect and appreciation from her kids.” The tribute allowed Diane and her mother to set aside their differences and begin building a relationship.

The Bible declares that parents are worthy of honor, and honor gives hope and encouragement when parents need it most. You can never totally repay your parents for what they gave you. But you can try.

A written tribute can be an island of appreciation in a sea of form letters and impersonal communications. I have found that parents don’t care if you’re a gifted writer, grammarian or spelling-bee champion. They feel honored by the fact that you are speaking from your heart.

How to Write a Tribute

Here are a few suggested steps in writing a tribute.

1. Prepare Your Heart

Once you decide to write a tribute for your parents, spend some time examining your heart.

Ask yourself some questions: Are you willing to look at your parents through the eyes of Christ? Are you looking to God rather than your parents for approval? Are your motives pure? Do you expect anything in return? Are you prepared to honor them regardless of their response?

2. Create a Memory List

Think back over your childhood. Can you remember a favorite vacation? A funny episode? A lesson your parents taught you? What character traits typify your dad or mom?

3. Write the Tribute

Don’t worry about being fancy. Just tell the story as if you are talking to a friend. If you plan to honor both parents, decide whether you want to write two individual tributes or one to both.

Start with a statement telling why you have written this tribute. Then look over your memory list. This will help you capture your thoughts and statements of gratitude. Have another person — a friend or a spouse — read your tribute. He or she may spot problems you haven’t thought of or catch a phrase that, while clear to you, is unclear to an outsider.

4. Frame the Tribute

When you’re finished writing your tribute, design the gift for your parents. Create a clean version of the document, suitable for framing. Use a computer with word processing, have your document typeset by a local graphic designer or hire a calligrapher. If you choose, add photos, artwork or other mementos.

5. Present the Tribute to Your Parents

Here are a few ideas to bring additional honor to your parents:

  • Do it publicly: You can present the tribute at a special occasion such as a family reunion, birthday party or when the family gathers for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or Christmas.
  • Do it privately: Steal away with your mom or dad for a private reading. Possibly, a trip home for no other reason would etch the message on their hearts permanently.
  • Do it with your children listening: What better picture can we give the next generation of the profound power of obeying God and His commandments?

I wrote a tribute to my father nearly 10 years after he died. I have no idea whether those in heaven are able to see what happens here on earth, but I do know he would have been pleased. And I am certain of this: God sees, and He is pleased with the tribute I wrote because it honors my dad.

The only thing better would have been to have read it to him in person.

Sentimental Thank You Speech

Thanking your parents or family for all their time and love can be best received in the form of a sentimental speech. Since you don't likely get this sappy in everyday life, consider taking the opportunity to open up your emotions. The sample sentimental graduation thank you speech shares all the ways family members have supported you through your high school journey.

Group Thank You Speech

If you'd like to thank your entire immediate or extended family in one speech, this template is a great option. You'll compare each family member's contributions in your life to similar teachers and administrators at your school. This gives you the chance to quickly acknowledge everyone in the room in a meaningful way.

Ways to Personalize a Speech

You can use each of these thank you speech samples as it, but they'll mean a lot more if you add in personal details about your life and family.

  • Use the names you call people like Grammy or Nana for grandma.
  • Include short anecdotes as an example of how someone specifically helped you.
  • Change words to make it sound more like how you normally talk.
  • Open with a quote that goes with the speech theme.

How to Give a Thank You Speech

Once you've chosen and personalized your speech, you need to find the perfect way to deliver it.

Speech Occasions

There are many activities that take place to celebrate your graduation. If you are the Valedictorian or Salutatorian, you can include the thanks as part of your speech at graduation . Other places you might give your speech include:

  • Regular family dinner
  • Your graduation party
  • During pictures after graduation
  • Celebratory after graduation dinner
  • On the way to graduation ceremony

Special Touches

Take your speech to the next level by incorporating interactive elements that show your effort. Choose one special element to add during your speech to make it extra meaningful.

  • Project a slideshow of family pictures in the background.
  • Walk over to each person and share the section about them to their face.
  • Call up family members to join you on stage or in front of the group as you talk about them.
  • Create a family photo display in front of the speech area.
  • Play a song before or after the speech that echoes your sentiments.

Speech Keepsakes

Turn your speech into a lasting thank you keepsake by adding the entire speech or quotes from it to customized gifts. Include the speech on your graduation thank you cards as a special message. If you have graduation party favors, look for a way to incorporate the speech like having it printed on tasseled bookmarks. You can also go simple and frame the speech to give as gifts after you read it.

Give Thanks as You Graduate

Make your graduation even more special by taking the time to tell the important people in your life just how much they've contributed to your successes. Keep it short and sweet or gush on. Either way, your family will appreciate the sentiments.

2 Minute Speech On Parents In English

Good morning to everyone in this room. I would like to thank the principal, the teachers, and my dear friends for allowing me to speak to you today about Parents. First and foremost, parents are our main protectors and providers.

They devote all of their time and energy to ensuring that we have all we need to develop and prosper as soon as we are born. They provide us with support, love, and guidance as well as priceless teachings that we will remember for the rest of our lives. However, being a parent involves much more than just meeting our basic needs.

They play an important role in shaping our personalities and helping us grow into mature, loving, and successful adults. Whether it’s through their counsel, their generous actions, or just by existing in our lives, parents have the power to inspire and push us to be the greatest versions of ourselves. But keep in mind that parenting is a demanding job.

It demands patience, giving, and constant love. As they regularly forego their wants to guarantee that their children are taken care of, parents deserve our respect and gratitude for their dedicated efforts.

I want to thank all the parents in the world for raising their children. We value what you do and appreciate how valuable you are to our lives. Although we may not always say it, we genuinely appreciate everything you do for us. And to everyone else, please remember to cherish your parents for the priceless contribution they provide to our lives. Thank you.

Speech on Parents

Category: Speech (English) On January 23, 2019 By Ananda

Good morning, dear students and my respected teachers . I hope you all are doing well. Today the topic of my speech is on parents . This is a very important and basic topic. We all know that parents are the creatures of God which protect and love us. They are a gift for us. A home is only a safe place with them. They spend their whole lives for giving a good and healthy life to their children . They keep them away from all troubles. Success and smile of their children are all they want. But, today, a lot of young people don’t value the contribution of parents in their life. They don’t care about their parents and their rights. They just care about themselves. This is very rude and arrogant behaviour. Parents have a long list of rights.

They need to be loved when they are old. We all are social animals. Interaction is necessary and important for us. Similarly, our parents need our care and time. They don’t want us to leave them in old homes. Talking to them every day is all they need.

So, everyone should take care of their parents. They need to be loved. If they are old and you don’t have time then hire a nurse o r a person who can take care of them. Don’t leave them unattended.

Parents are a plural word. Father and mother both come in this category. They both have their separate rights and rules. Both of them are really important in upbringing a child. A father makes money for their children while a mother cooks for him , love him and nurture him. Mothers cradle is the first school of any child. So mothers respect is the basic thing and we all should do this. Today, many teenagers don’t take this matter seriously. So I humbly request all of you people that take my words seriously. Ask the importance of parents from those who don’t have parents. They will tell you their true importance.

Physical, social and mental development of a child is done by them. They are responsible for the proper upbringing of their child. From school to college and then university your parents don’t leave you. They are the best trainers for which anyone can ask for. They make us strong enough to face the challenges of this cruel world . They are a true blessing. Without them and their support, we cannot thrive or survive in this world. They know our mood swings and habits. They are our best friends. Parents remain tense during our teenage. They keep a regular check on ourselves so that we remain away from the bad company and people. They are our true saviours. Children usually take time to understand this. But when they do so, they feel good and mature. Now I would not take your more time and will end my speech.

Are you giving a speech at your child’s graduation? Whether it’s high school, college, University, or even a kindergarten graduation ceremony – as a parent – this can be a daunting task.

You might be wondering, when you start to think about speech writing, “are there several writing services to write my speech?” And paper writing companies are definitely out there! But here, we want to give you some helpful advice to write your own speech on Graduation Day.

There’s a huge level of gravitas with giving a speech. A room of people, even if it’s friends and other parents you’ve known for years, can feel at least a little daunting to speak in front of.

Many parents will put huge expectations on themselves for a speech. When we see speeches on TV or in movies, they always seem larger than life, like these unforgettable moments that will stand the test of history.

This adds to the aforementioned gravitas, but it can be helpful to keep things in perspective. You aren’t giving a speech to encourage your country to venture to the moon, nor to bring rivals together during a time of catastrophe, nor to inspire a room full of struggling salespeople.

Having said that, a speech is still something that is significant, it’s a chance to express yourself, and it’s a chance to leave a mark on a captive audience.

Tips for Writing a Parent Speech for Graduation Day

Here are some helpful tips if you’re writing a parent speech. You can make a memorable and impacting speech following this advice.

Keep It Short and Sweet

If many parents are reading speeches, there can be a natural impulse to try to one-up the other parents, take more time, do the best speech… but nobody else is going to be nearly as interested in your speech as your own kid and family, so don’t worry about trying to overdo it or to appeal to everyone.

Keep it short and sweet for the sake of everyone who will be listening to a ton of speeches, and if you have more to say or chat about, you can do that privately with your graduate.

Think About Your Audience

There can be different styles of parent speeches. Think about who your audience is (your kid, their close friends and students they’ve known their whole lives, or one of many students in a larger class?) Use these thoughts to inform the length and style of your speech. For example, the smaller and more intimate the crowd is, the more likely that people are to be familiar with your child, their quirks, references, and so on.

Read your speech over and over, in front of a mirror or to friends/family, to check how long it typically takes you to read through it. Be mindful of your pacing. While it’s good to get through it quickly and to avoid having a speech that’s too long, you want to avoid reading through it really quickly. We’ve all heard speeches where the person is obviously nervous and reading too fast. Being nervous is okay on its own, if you can avoid reading too quickly!

If you aren’t experienced in public speaking, or you’re a bit nervous, you might find yourself speed-reading it. Pacing is really difficult to nail, but a few trial runs should take care of most issues. When you’re giving your speech, just be mindful that you aren’t reading too quickly. Try to be present in the moment instead of zoning-out.

Get Feedback

After presenting your speech to friends or family, it’s a good idea to ask them for their honest feedback. Ask them for suggestions, if there are any parts that didn’t make sense or didn’t flow as well, and anything else they can suggest. Or alternatively, you can find the best essay writing service and have them check your speech.

Sometimes, a fresh set of eyes and ears is really helpful, especially if you’ve been looking at this same speech for days. Don’t neglect to lean on those around you for their thoughts and ideas!

Do You Need To Memorize Your Parent Speech?

You don’t need to 100% memorize your entire speech, and going up to give the speech without a copy of it written down can be a recipe for disaster.

Even if you know your entire speech perfectly and can recite it flawlessly, it’s a totally different story when the moment finally arrives and you’re up there with an audience. Keep a copy of the speech with you, glance down occasionally if you need to, there’s nothing wrong with this. You’re not acting in a movie, you don’t need to remember all of your lines.

Parent Speech Template

Here’s a quick outline for a parent speech, you can fill in the blanks with your own stories and experiences and anecdotes. This parent speech template will help you get started if you’re not sure how to get the ball rolling.

  • Begin your speech with a heartfelt message to your child. You could tell them how proud you are and why, or tell a story about some of the challenges they’ve overcome to arrive here at graduation.
  • Share some of their biggest accomplishments. This will vary from person to person, so think about an accomplishment that your child was most proud of (as long as they wouldn’t mind having it shared). Here’s some useful information about tracking your child’s accomplishments .
  • Share some advice. This is a good part in the speech to offer some advice, words or encouragement, or just looking forward to the future as your child closes one chapter in their life and opens another. Whether they’re taking some time to plan for the future, staying in school to advance further, or looking to enter the workforce – big chances are on the horizon and there’s a lot to look forward to!
  • Thank those who have helped. Take a brief moment at this part of the speech to say thanks to people who have helped along the way. It could be teachers , administrators, someone else on the school’s staff, a family member who rose to the occasion to give support, and so on. You don’t need to list everyone in the world here since it’s not an Oscar acceptance speech, sticking to a poignant moment or two will keep your speech flowing best.
  • Wrap things up with a second heartfelt message. If you can finish things up with one more heartfelt message to your grad, especially if you can reference something from the introduction that ties these two messages together, your speech will feel a lot more impactful.

This isn’t set in stone. Come up with something that works for you, and the guidelines of your speech, too. When you’re asked to write a speech, they’ll typically give you some guidelines to follow. If not, don’t be afraid to ask or refer to other parent speeches.

Final Thoughts About Writing a Parent’s Speech on Graduation Day

At the end of the day, it’s a good idea to remember a few things. Most importantly, this day is for your child. It’s about celebrating their accomplishment. Don’t try to make a joke that will make them uncomfortable or feel humiliated at all. It can feel good to get a laugh from a crowd, but it’s not about you, it’s about them, it’s their day.

As a parent, you know what a challenge it can be to think about balancing motherhood and balancing fatherhood and college graduations, highschool graduations , or even elementary school graduations.

Hopefully, you’ve found some helpful tips and advice about how to write a parent speech on graduation day. Preparing for your speech will ensure that everything goes smoothly, and you’re able to present a great speech that your kid will remember proudly (even if they roll their eyes in the moment, that’s just kind of how teens are…)

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Speech from Parents & Family: Step by Step + Examples

Writing Bar Bat Mitzvah Parent Speech

Your child’s big day is around the corner…

I bet you’re excited… it’s a big day!

But hang on a sec…

Are you excited because it’s your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

Or are you excited (read: terrified ) because you’d like to give your son/daughter a nice Bar/Bat Mitzvah speech, but you have NO IDEA what to say (or where to start)?

I’m about to show you exactly how to write a terrific Bar/Bat Mitzvah speech – step by step (without putting your guests to sleep in the process).

Note: This guide is useful not just for parents. Any family member who’s looking to write a speech for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah: parents, grandparents, siblings, friends… you name it.

Note 2:  I also wrote a similar guide that helps  Bnai Mitzvah write their speech . Feel free to send it to them if they could use some help.

Creating the Speech Outline

Create Speech Outline

Got your pen and paper ready?

Ready to write a speech that’ll make Stephen King’s novels look like children’s books?

Hold your horses there, tiger!

Before you start burning the midnight oil, you might want to start off with a plan first.

After all… you wouldn’t build a house without drawing a blueprint first, now would you?

So why would you start writing without an outline?

A speech outline gives you structure. And it’s that structure that can save you hours of staring at a blank piece of paper trying to figure out what to write (or say).

Been there, done that, don’t recommendat.

Now… my spider senses tell me that you’re wondering: “OK, genius… how do I create an outline?”

Thankfully, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Here’s an outline you can use to write your Bar/Bat Mitzvah speech:

Note: I included a bunch of Bar/Bat Mitzvah speech examples at the end of this article that follows this precise outline.

  • Thank everyone for coming . Mention a few names you’d like to personally thank (like your family who traveled from a distance to celebrate with you, your in-laws if you want them to finally like you, or your boss if you’d like to improve your odds of a promotion)
  • Start your speech with a hook to capture your guest’s attention (they’re probably on their phones)
  • Optional: Slip in a joke if it makes sense (like I just did above).
  • Tell a personal story that relates to your son/daughter. Focus your story on your son/daughter’s qualities and likes.
  • Optional: Throw a joke or two in the middle.
  • Optional: Include a Dvar Torah
  • Bless your son/daughter . Tell them how much you love them, and how much you’re proud of them.
  • Wish everyone a pleasant evening
  • Optional: Wrap it up with another joke for good measure

Now that we’ve got a rough outline – time to think of what we actually want to say.

Brainstorming: Collecting Notes, Ideas & Stories (and Jokes)

Brainstorming Collect Notes

This is the fun part…

This is where you  brainstorm & collect everything you’d like to say to your son/daughter on their special day:

  • Personal stories & anecdotes from the past
  • Lessons, analogies, and metaphors
  • Blessings & wishes

Let the creative juices flow.

Feeling stuck? Here are a few places you can draw inspiration from:

  • Start with listing “bad” ideas . Good ideas often come from bad ones.
  • Go for long walks & take long showers. Cliché, but it works.
  • Ask your spouse for ideas. Who else knows your son/daughter (perhaps even better than you do)? Possibly your spouse…
  • Ask your son/daughter . Who knows your son/daughter better than you AND your spouse? Yep – your son/daughter. Since it’s their Bar/Bat Mitzvah and you’re about to talk about them, who better to ask than the actual man/woman of the hour?
  • See what other parents wrote for their children’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah . Use the example speeches I included below for some inspiration.

Got some notes & ideas written down?

Awesome… now, lock yourself in your office… because you’re about to start writing!

Writing the Speech

Writing The Speech

3…2…1 – start writing!

Now that you’ve collected a bunch of stories, ideas, and jokes – it’s time to put them all together and start writing your speech.

Here are a couple of writing tips you can use to write your Bar/Bat Mitzvah speech:

1. Write like you speak

Remember English class?

Good… now throw the textbook out the window and do the EXACT opposite.

Our natural tendency is to try and impress others with our fancy writing, trying to make Shakespeare proud. As a result – you end up walking to the fridge every 2 minutes to check “what’s new” (or worse – you open Facebook) = a.k.a writer’s block .

But here’s the thing…

When you give a speech – you shouldn’t sound like an English professor… you should sound like YOU.

Counter-intuitive, ain’t it?

Could you imagine people listening to your speech, and halfway through wondering: “ who the hell does this guy think he is ?!”

Bottom line : Write like you speak, Bevakasha…

2. Don’t write and edit at the same time.

When you write – write. When you edit – edit.

Writing and editing are 2 different mental processes. Don’t make the classic error of mixing the two of them together – you’ll just slow yourself down and drive yourself crazy.

3. Start with writing the body , then write the intro & wrap up

This is the 80/20 rule in practice: the body of your speech will be around 80% of your speech, so you better start there…

Once you’ve got the body written down:

  • You can write your speech intro and smoothly transition into the speech body.
  • You can write your speech wrap-up and smoothly transition from the speech body.

It’s like making a tuna sandwich: first, you prepare the tuna, then you wrap it up with the bread.

4. Don’t be boring!

Make your speech short & sweet, not long & tedious. People have short attention spans. If you start rambling endlessly you’ll notice people start to yawn and reach for their phones (if it’s not Shabbat).

Tip: Check out the “Practice, Practice, Practice” section below to make sure you don’t turn it into a snooze-fest.

Take Jacob Green, a Jewish young man from Florida. His little sister recently celebrated her Bat Mitzvah – and his father took the opportunity to play a few jokes on Jacob and his siblings:

“Rachel, I think you know this, but you’re the favorite. And you aren’t just our favorite, sometimes I think you’re everyone’s favorite. Wherever we go, the beach, the supermarket, a hotel – when we leave they’re always seem to be saying ‘bye Rachel,’ or ‘thanks for playing Rachel!’”

But does that mean you have to be a stand-up comedian to not be boring?

Heck no! You can give a terrific speech without forcing your awkward jokes on people.

5. Don’t force jokes if they’re not funny!

Don’t force the joke – spare us the “a Jew and a Muslim walk into a bar” kind of jokes. The joke should either be relevant to what you’re saying or not be said at all.

Embarrassing your son/daughter on their Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a big no-no. You’ll have to live with the consequences (and probably make it up to them with one hell of a Bar Mitzvah gift ).

Editing the Speech

Edit Speech

Hooray! You’ve got your first draft written down. Now, it’s time to edit it.

This is where you turn a blurb of text into something worth reading (or in this case, something worth listening to).

Many people don’t know this, but the real magic happens in the editing, not in the writing.

There’s a reason why newspapers and publications have both writers and editors on their payroll… And can’t succeed without the other.

Now, I don’t expect you to hire an editor to write a speech. Unfortunately (or fortunately) you’ll be the writer, editor, and in this case – also the speaker.

Don’t worry, I like keeping things simple.

In fact, to edit your speech effectively – all you have to do is remember RRRR (the 4 R’s) :

  • Remove: Get rid of words or sentences you don’t need
  • Rewrite: Rewrite complicated sentences to make it sound natural. Remember – this is a speech, not a college essay. Leave the complicated words out.
  • Reorder: If a sentence breaks the natural flow of the speech, try moving it someplace else
  • Repeat: Repeat until you’re satisfied.

Finally, proof read your speech to make sure it sounds good. Notice I highlighted the “read” part. This is a speech you’ll actually read out loud, not just submit to the local newspaper. Make sure it reads properly.

Tip: Don’t be a perfectionist about it. Your speech should sound authentic, not like a 1980’s radio news report.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Practice Practice Practice

Repetition breeds skill.

No, I didn’t hit CTRL+C and CTRL+V 3 times by accident. This was intentional – to illustrate how crucial it is to practice your speech and repeat it several times .

Here are a couple of speaking tips to keep in mind while you practice:

1. Time yourself

Measure how long the speech takes.

Ideally, you’d want to keep it somewhere between 3-10 minutes. Otherwise, your guests will get impatient and bored (otherwise you’ll have to make it up to them with some pretty cool Bar/Bat Mitzvah souvenirs )

If it’s too long, edit your speech and try to make it shorter and snappier (remember RRRR ).

Your mirror is your friend. Practice giving your speech several times in front of the mirror, until it sounds “right”.

Tip: Your spouse is your 2 nd best friend (that sounded weird). Read your speech to your spouse to give you some cold-hearted truth.

2. Look at your son/daughter and your guests, not at your notes

If you haven’t practiced your speech properly – you’ll constantly go back and forth between your son/daughter, your guests and your notes.

That’s why practicing your speech is so important.

You’ll want to memorize your speech to the point where you (almost) know your speech by heart.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have your notes with you when you speak. But use it as a helper, not as a guide.

3. Speak with emotion

You’re probably already emotional, so that should be easy.

Just don’t be afraid to show it.

Note: Yes, I’m talking to you dads out there who don’t like to show their feelings.

4. Match your body language and tone of voice to the words you’re saying

People overestimate the importance of the words and underestimate the importance of tone and body language.

A famous study from 1967 (!) showed that words are responsible for only 7% of personal communication (feelings and attitudes), while body language and tone of voice are responsible for 55% and 38% respectively.

  • If you’re sharing a personal story – speak with emotion.
  • If you’re telling a joke, tell it with a smile on your face.
  • If you’re sharing a sad story, speak gently (and wipe that smile off your face).

In other words: don’t be a robot.

5. Be yourself

Be authentic. Don’t try to sound like someone you’re not.

Say what you feel and feel what you say.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Speech Examples

Bar mitzvah speech example #1:.

This Jewish mother from LA shared the unique speech she gave her son, a computer gamer, for his Bar Mitzvah.

Take Notes: Notice how she uses a combination of stories, analogies, metaphors (from the Gaming world, of all places!).

Hello everyone and thank you so much for joining us for Michael’s Bar Mitzvah.

Now, I know for most of you, this isn’t your first time at the rodeo.

But for myself, my husband, and my extended family, Michael is the first Bar Mitzvah in decades!

I also know that many of the friends that have joined us here today have never been to a Bar Mitzvah or if they have they might not realize the whole tradition of the Bar Mitzvah ceremony . So I thought I would spend a little bit of time explaining what a Bar Mitzvah is, why we do it, what we are celebrating, and so on and so forth.

In essence, a Bar Mitzvah is the beginning of a child’s spiritual maturity. When boys are younger than age 13, and 12 for girls because everyone knows girls are more mature than boys, they are unaware of their spiritual selves. But after 12 and 13, a child, now a very young adult, can begin to form their morals, their values, and their spiritual beliefs.

Michael has been studying Hebrew and the Torah for pretty much his entire life. He actually had to memorize his Torah portion in order to be able to read it up here at the bimah!

As someone who has a terrible time remembering things, I find this feat to be extraordinary. But honestly, according to his father and I, Michael pretty much HAD to have a Bar Mitzvah. Everything in his life has been more or less controlled by myself, his father and to a certain extent his teachers and rabbis. Up until now, Michael’s life hasn’t really been fully his.

But now Michael is 13! He is leaving behind the era of being a child completely run by adults and is beginning to be able to spread his wings.

Like me, Michael was born wanting to control his life more than either his father or I really wanted him to. And now, finally Michael, you can begin to take control of your life starting with figuring out what kind of man you want to be.

The foundation of your morality has already been built through 13 years of teaching from your parents and from learning about Judaism. Now is the time you will learn who you really want to be and what kind of man you will become. But the good news is you don’t have to do this alone.

Even though you are now free to make more decisions on your own, you still have us, your family and your community to be here to help you when you get stuck. You have a wealth of love and knowledge sitting right here, celebrating you and your life!

The beauty of a Bar Mitzvah is it is the ending of one part of your life – being a child – and the beginning of the next chapter – learning how to truly be a good adult.

  • Instead of just sitting in class and learning, you are now able to teach those who are younger than you.
  • Instead of memorizing lines from your parsha , you can now begin to understand the meaning behind them and start to question things.

You are someone that has always needed to know what the boundaries are in any given task. You are now free to create some of those boundaries yourself instead of waiting for someone to tell you what they are!

Turning 13 means you’ll be able to fulfill more Mitzvot, such as the wearing of Tefillin …

The purpose of the Tefillin is to, besides becoming closer to G-d, connect the heart and the mind together.

As they say in the Spider-Man comics, “with great power comes great responsibility”.

Michael, you’re now about to begin a new era in your progression as a man.

The Tefillin isn’t another thing you have to do because you are Jewish and your father and I said so, it is a want to. You can choose to put it on, or not. But as someone who was born already possessing the abilities the Tefillin will help you acquire, let me tell you – it is worth it.

Frankly, I believe you, Michael, have already begun to develop as a man. Your growth this past year in school has been absolutely remarkable. Your father and I did our best to figure out how we could best support you as an individual, but ultimately the hard work was entirely up to you. And you did it!

Watching you blossom this year has been one of the most rewarding things I have seen in my life and I am honored that Hashem has blessed me with such a wonderful son.

Now I have a story for you:

This was back in the early sixties when the first mainframe computers were being introduced into business. Professor Abraham Polichenco, a pioneer in computer technology, visited the Lubavitcher Rebbe and posed a question to him:

“I know that everything that exists in the world, even something that we discover later in history, has its source somewhere in the Torah. So, where are there computers in the Torah?”

Without hesitation, the Rebbe answered, “Tefillin.” The professor was perplexed.

“What’s new about a computer?” the Rebbe continued. “You walk into a room and you see many familiar machines: A typewriter, a large tape recorder, a television set, a hole puncher, a calculator. What is new?

“But under the floor, cables connect all these machines so they work as one.”

The professor nodded enthusiastically. He hadn’t realized it before, but yes, this is all that a computer is: A synthesis of media and processing devices.

“Now look at your own self. You have a brain. It is in one world. Your heart is in another. And your hands often end up involved in something completely foreign to both of them. Three diverse machines.

“So you put on Tefillin. First thing in the day, you connect your head, your heart and your hand with these leather cables — all to work as one with one intent. And then when you go out to meet the world, all your actions find harmony in a single coordinated purpose.”

Michael, I know how much you adore computers and gaming. So, I am going to take the analogy of computers and Judaism a little bit further than the Rebbe did. I believe one could make an argument, that being a Jew is the ultimate in computer gaming!

You laugh but hear me out.

What is it about playing games on the computer that makes you so passionate about it? I think one of the reasons is the feeling of community you get when you’re working with your friends on a team to beat another set of virtual characters.

Judaism has the same thing! When we celebrate Shabbos every Friday night and make the prayers on the candles and bread and wine, we’re connecting to every other Jewish person on the earth who are also doing the exact same thing we are doing.

Do you remember the scene in Harry Potter when all of the good guys raise their hands up towards the sky and the light blows away the evilness of Voldemort?

That is kind of what I think happens when we light the candles on Friday night. The spirit of every Jew working together will be what brings Mashiach, right?

Another thing you enjoy playing video games is the challenge of learning how to win at the various levels. One more level mom! Turns out Judaism has the same thing!

The Zohar, otherwise known as the Jewish book of mysticism explains:

Viewed from the point of view of man’s service to G‑d, the levels of the soul may be described as five ascending levels of awareness of, and communion with, G‑d. They are called (in ascending order) Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Chaya, and Yechida. Regarding these levels of soul, the Zohar states that when a person is born, he’s given a Nefesh from the world of Asiya, the lowest world, representing the greatest concealment of G‑d.

If through his divine service and proper action, he makes himself worthy, he is then given Ruach on the plane of Yetzira. With greater effort, he can earn the revelation of Neshama, paralleling the world of Beriya. If he purifies himself greatly, he may be able to attain the level of Chaya paralleling Atzilut, and even Yechida — the G‑d consciousness of the level of Adam Kadmon and beyond.

Look, I barely understand what any of that means! But I DO know that if you continue to study and learn Torah, continue to be a good person and choose the right thing to do, you will eventually “level up” with your commitment and connection to G-D. And THAT is really something!

Michael, when you “win” a computer game, that gives you a strong sense of accomplishment. You DID something! You WON! Judaism can do the same thing for you. When you choose to eat a kosher meal, you are automatically winning! When you put on tefillin, you are winning! When you come to service and daven, you are winning! There are so many ways, 613 to be exact, that you can “win” at

Judaism! Now THAT is a game worth playing!

So, as I have just explained to you, Torah is really the ultimate “game”. One that I think you excel at playing. So today, on your Bar Mitzvah, I hope you understand that this is the ending of your have-to’s and the beginning of your want-to’s.

And if you choose to continue with your Jewish learning, there is no telling what you can accomplish.

Michael, I love you with all of my heart. I am so proud of you and may you be blessed with health and happiness for all the days of your life!

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Speech Example #2: Short, Sweet & Funny

This is a speech given by Ronny, a father from Hartford, CT, who gave this speech on his son’s Bar Mitzvah.

Take Notes: Notice the witty jokes and the length of this speech: short, sweet and to the point.

Thank you, everyone, for joining us tonight in celebrating our beloved son’s Bar Mitzvah.

If you don’t mind, I’d like to say a few words to Yosef…

My dear son Yosef,

You’re celebrating your coming of age today… and because of that, look what happened – you forced your family from all over the world to come to your Bar Mitzvah.

But don’t worry, they have nothing to complain about. You’re our one and only son.

Could you imagine if they had to fly over and over again?

Yosef, I don’t know if you know how proud I am of you and everything you’re doing:

For those of you who don’t know: Yosef is at the top of his class, at the top of his Judo team and pretty much everywhere else.

Everyone knows that and sees that… But what no one sees is the hard work you put into everything do.

You’re a very talented young man… but talent can only get you so far in life.

It’s the talent, combined with your hard work that makes you so successful.

Sometimes your mother and I argue who you got it from (clearly, it came from me).

You inspire us and everyone around you to do dream big and do greater things.

And let me tell you…

In fact, I PROMISE you: if you keep working hard throughout your life, you’ll achieve amazing things… in life, in Torah, in Judo, everywhere…

Hard work – works.

I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished, and everything you’ll accomplish in the future.

I’m proud to be your father. Or, rather, I’m proud that you are my son…

I’ll always be in your corner and be your biggest cheerleader (I might even dance like one and embarrass you in front of your friends if I drink too much tonight)

Your mother and I love you very much… Forever and always!

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Speech Example #3: The “Non-speech” Speech

Who said you have to give a speech, to begin with?

Miriam Snyder, a cantorial soloist from LA, gave me an interesting example from her son’s Bar Mitzvah:

You don’t have to make your guests cry on purpose… but hey, if you’re America’s next rising star (or whichever country you’re from) – then go hit the stage!

More Bar/Bat Mitzvah Speech Examples

Take a look at this Bat Mitzvah speech given by famous TV & game show producer, Bob Boden (The Chase, Jeopardy & others):

Take Notes:  He uses his TV persona in his daughter’s blessing. Short, witty and emotional all at the same time.

Here’s a good example of a father telling the emotional story of his Bar Mitzvah being born. Notice the authenticity in his story, and the way he masterfully uses his tone of voice with the words he’s saying.

Take Notes:  Storytelling at its best: authentic, engaging and entertaining.

See… that wasn’t so bad, was it?

Writing a great Bar/Bat Mitzvah speech is easy if you have the right system.

Simply follow the steps in this article, and you’ll have an awesome speech ready in no time.

Note: It will definitely take you less time than it took me to write this article 🙂

Should Parents Work on Their Child’s Speech Goals at Home?

Stacie bennett.

Speech-Language Pathologist , Trenton , New Jersey

Jan 15, 2022 Parents frequently ask us: “How much time do parents work on their child’s speech and language goals at home? What are parents’ roles and responsibility in speech therapy?”

Share

In short:  Parents should work on speech therapy skills  daily  with their children.

It doesn’t mean you have to sit down as soon as you get home and start drilling them with flashcards and work.

Though this may seem overwhelming after a long day, the more frequently your child is exposed to certain skills, means the more the skill learning carryover , which is the goal of speech therapy at home!

Your child’s speech-language pathologist should be giving you “homework,” and if not,  please ask for ideas and strategies  from them.

The more you practice, the more it carries over! Try the Speech Blubs app for fun and engaging therapy sessions you can do in the comfort of your own home. ❤️🏡

You should also be sitting in on therapy sessions, if your child is participating in early intervention services.

If your child only gets speech at school, please make sure you reach out to the speech pathologist often for updates to see if there’s anything you can do at home.

Every opportunity is a speech opportunity!  This means the smallest tasks, such as brushing your teeth, can be a chance to sneak in language, directions, asking questions, and having your child elaborate on things they say.

What Can You Do at Home?

I worked as an early intervention therapist for seven years before I started my private practice, and I can tell you that the children whose parents are  actively involved and participate move through therapy faster and see quicker results.  These parents constantly asked me for progress notes and for things they could work on at home! It may seem like a lot, but chances are you are already doing some of the exercises that I’m going to talk about.

Use These Ideas to Start Working on Speech at Home

  • Read to your child for 5-10 minutes before bed.  Make sure you are pointing at stuff, having your child point to specific objects, and asking questions. This reinforces how and what they’re saying (expressive language), as well as what they are understanding (receptive language).
  • Narrate your day to your child.  Use simple, easy to understand language, and make sure you keep it clear and to-the-point. When you are cooking, talk about what you are doing (e.g. “Mommy is stirring the soup”). When driving, you can say things like, “We just turned left.”
  • Play games.  Playing games is one of the most fun and interactive ways to use language. It works on social language, such as turn-taking, their ability to follow directions, and gives them plenty of chances to work on speech sounds.
  • Get together with family and friends . This gives other people in your child’s life the opportunity to engage and talk to them. These opportunities improve the chance they will retain the skills that you and the therapist are working to achieve, allows your child to be exposed to different words and contexts, and lets you know how easily understood their speech is to other people.
  • Create a 5-minute routine with Speech Blubs.  The app uses a “kids teaching kids” approach to learning. Your child will imitate their peers and get another exciting way to see and hear the words.  Download Speech Blubs and start practicing now!

So, because you are with your child far more than the therapist is, parental involvement in therapy is so very important.  Every time is a good time to work on speech!

Nursery rhymes help babies to learn language, study finds

  • Parents should use nursery rhymes to help babies learn language, study says
  • Scientists say rhythm is vital as young babies don't detect individual sound types

Parents should use nursery rhymes and sing-song speech to help young babies learn language, according to experts.

The slow, rising and falling rhythm of nursery rhymes like Humpty Dumpty, much like the relaxed sing-song speech parents use with young infants, helps babies to identify the individual words within sentences, evidence suggests.

Scientists have now concluded rhythm is vital, after finding babies do not properly detect individual sound types like 'ba' and 'ga' until they are seven months old.

Researchers led by the University of Cambridge measured the brain activity of 50 babies, who were played recordings of 18 sung nursery rhymes when they were four, seven and 11 months old.

Previous analysis found the babies' brains respond to rhythm at all of these ages.

READ MORE:  Why it pays to be a chatty mum: Babies start learning language BEFORE birth, study finds

For example, a word like 'Humpty', where the first syllable is said with greater emphasis than the second syllable, produce specific brain activity in babies, and may help them to understand that many English words have this 'da-dum' structure.

Now new analysis provides more evidence that it is indeed rhythm, rather than individual word sounds, which helps young babies to learn language.

To look at whether babies learn from the phonetic building blocks of every word, like 'ba', 'ma' or 'ga', researchers looked at their brain response about a quarter of a second after each sound during nursery rhymes.

They ignored the brain responses previously seen in response to rhythm, to focus only on the individual sounds in words.

Stronger brain activity to word sounds was not seen in young babies and emerged only once babies are seven months old.

This activity was not very strong, even when the infants were 11 months old.

The findings suggest rhythmic speech is better than individual word sounds for learning language during the important window when babies are very young.

That means parents who recite nursery rhymes, or use sing-song speech, which both exaggerate the rising and falling tone of words like 'Humpty Dumpty', provide babies with more clues about how language works than if they spoke normally.

READ MORE Baby talk helps infants make words, study shows

The study's senior author, neuroscientist Professor Usha Goswami, from the University of Cambridge, said: 'Our research shows that the individual sounds of speech are not processed reliably until around seven months, even though most infants can recognise familiar words like 'bottle' by this point.

'From then, individual speech sounds are still added in very slowly – too slowly to form the basis of language.

'We believe that speech rhythm information is the hidden glue underpinning the development of a well-functioning language system.

'Parents should talk and sing to their babies as much as possible or use infant-directed speech like nursery rhymes because it will make a difference to language outcome.'

The study, published in the journal Nature Communications, used a special algorithm to separate out how babies' brains respond to rhythm and phonetic word sounds separately, in EEG recordings taken from electrodes placed on their heads.

Babies appear to take a long time to learn word sounds, starting by understanding sounds produced by the upper front teeth like 'd' for 'daddy' before picking up sounds produced using air puffed through the nose, like 'm' for 'mummy'.

But this detection of phonetic sounds only seems to start at seven months - beyond the four to six-month-old window when babies are known to recognise words.

Therefore rhythm must be helping before this point, the researchers suggest.

Previous studies suggest babies do detect some phonetic sounds at a younger age, but have often been based on babies turning their heads more towards a word sound in their own language, rather than those in a different or pretend language.

The authors say their research, using brain activity during nursery rhymes, suggests very young babies may not rely on word sounds when processing language from full sentences in speech - even if they can detect the individual sounds.

The findings could help to better understand what goes wrong in children who learn language with more difficulty, like those with dyslexia, when they are still babies.

Professor Giovanni Di Liberto, first author of the study, from Trinity College Dublin, said: 'This is the first evidence we have of how brain activity relates to phonetic information changes over time in response to continuous speech.'

Idaho legislators have villainized librarians for allowing freedom of speech to exist on shelves

Parents should govern their children at the library, not librarians or Idaho legislators, writes guest columnist Holly Cook. (Getty Images)

I don’t recall hearing that any legislators felt called to run for office because of “out of control librarians.” However, for the past three years, the Idaho Legislature has ended the session with a debate about what to do about “harmful materials” in libraries, villainizing librarians for allowing freedom of speech to exist on the shelves.

When there are so many other pressing issues that are actual problems to fix, I find myself at a loss as to why legislators keep choosing this non-problem to hang their hats.

Idaho Legislature passes bill requiring Idaho libraries move ‘harmful materials’

The reality is that after House Bill 710 becomes law, libraries will need to buy and install better camera systems, and will likely need to hire IT people to review camera footage to obtain proof of how explicit books ended up in the children’s section. Then, of course, those large video files will have to be retained because they’re public records. That’s very expensive too. Libraries will have to buy these systems quickly, too, because the legislature declared an “emergency” exists, speeding up the timeframe for which the new statute takes effect.

These costs, combined with those associated with statutory penalties (which Gov. Brad Little once appropriately called a “bounty” on librarians ), legal fees and increases to insurance premiums, as a result of this unnecessary legislation are a ridiculous waste of Idahoans’ tax dollars.

If “harmful materials” in our libraries was an actual problem, and I would personally argue it isn’t, the solution is easy and free: parents should govern their children at the library, not librarians or legislators. Parents have a responsibility to supervise their children.

The notion that Idahoans need government interference in supervising our children at the library is disrespectful, and Idaho parents should be concerned about legislators who think they know better than they do. Idaho parents are perfectly capable of being engaged, knowing what books their child is reading, and deciding what content is appropriate for them.

Our libraries are cozy sanctuaries where Idahoans of any age, any background, and with any financial means, can learn, grow, and find answers to nearly any problem. The implementation of House Bill 710 threatens one of our most important community resources, wastes our tax dollars, and offends parents’ right to govern our own children.

Biden Announces New Plan for Student Debt Relief

President biden announced a large-scale effort to help pay off federal student loans for more than 20 million borrowers..

Today, I’m proud to announce five major actions to continue to relieve student debt for more than 30 million Americans since I started my administration. And starting this fall, we plan to deliver up to $20,000 in interest relief to over 20 million borrowers and full forgiveness for millions more. [applause] I will never stop to deliver student debt relief and hardworking Americans. And it’s only in the interest of America that we do it. And again, it’s for the good of our economy that’s growing stronger and stronger, and it is, by freeing millions of Americans from this crushing debt of student debt. It means they can finally get on with their lives instead of being put — their lives being put on hold.

By Michael D. Shear

Reporting from Madison, Wis.

President Biden on Monday announced a large-scale effort to help pay off federal student loans for tens of millions of American borrowers, seeking an election-year boost by returning to a 2020 campaign promise that was blocked by the Supreme Court last year.

Mr. Biden’s new plan would reduce the amount that 25 million borrowers still owe on their undergraduate and graduate loans. It would wipe away the entire amount for more than four million Americans. Altogether, White House officials said, 10 million borrowers would see debt relief of $5,000 or more.

“While a college degree still is a ticket to the middle class, that ticket is becoming much too expensive,” Mr. Biden said during a speech to a small but enthusiastic audience filled with supporters. “Today, too many Americans, especially young people, are saddled with too much debt.”

Mr. Biden announced the plan in Madison, Wis., the capital of a critical swing state and a college town that symbolizes the president’s promise to make higher-education affordability a cornerstone of his economic agenda.

But it is a promise he has so far failed to achieve, largely because of legal challenges from Republicans and other critics. They accuse Mr. Biden of unlawfully using his executive authority to enact a costly transfer of wealth from taxpayers who have not taken out federal student loans to those who have.

Officials did not say how much the new plan would cost in coming years, but critics have said it could increase inflation and add to the federal debt by billions of dollars.

Mr. Biden said his new effort would help the economy by removing the drag of enormous debt from people who would otherwise not be able to buy a home or pursue a more economically sound future.

“We’re giving people a chance to make it,” Mr. Biden said. “Not a guarantee. Just a chance to make it.”

Mr. Biden’s announcement was a presidential do-over. In the summer of 2022, he put in motion a plan to wipe out $400 billion in student debt for about 43 million borrowers. That was blocked by the Supreme Court , which said he exceeded his authority. In the months since, Mr. Biden has waived small amounts of debt using existing programs. But now he is attempting a larger effort closer to the scale of his first try.

The original plan relied on a law called the HEROES Act, which the administration argued allowed the government to waive student debt during a national emergency like the Covid pandemic. The justices disagreed after Republican attorneys general and others challenged the debt waiver plan.

The new approach is different.

For months, Mr. Biden’s Education Department has been developing regulations using a long process authorized by the Higher Education Act. Instead of an across-the-board waiver of debt, the new approach targets five groups of borrowers: those whose loans have ballooned because of interest; borrowers who have been paying for decades; those who have economic hardship; people who qualify for existing debt relief programs but have not applied; and people whose loans come from schools that have since been denied certification or have lost eligibility for federal student aid programs.

Administration officials said because the new approach is based on a different law, it is more likely to survive the expected challenges. They said lawyers for the White House and the Education Department have studied the Supreme Court ruling and have designed the new program to make sure it does not violate the principles laid out by the justices.

But lawyers for those who oppose the approach are likely to argue that waiving the debt is unfair to those who already paid back their loans or never took out college loans in the first place. That argument helped sway the justices in the last case.

Neal McCluskey, the director of the Center for Educational Freedom at the Cato Institute, called the new plan “dangerous policy” that is unfair to taxpayers and would cause colleges and universities to raise their prices.

“The Constitution gives Congress, not the president, the authority to enact law, and the Supreme Court has already struck down a unilateral, mass student debt cancellation scheme by the Biden administration,” he said. “It would stick taxpayers with bills for debts other people chose for their own financial advancement.”

The legal challenges will likely take months to resolve, and that could leave the debt relief plan in limbo as voters go to the polls in November to choose between Mr. Biden and former President Donald J. Trump.

Members of Mr. Biden’s administration fanned out across the country on Monday to talk about the new plan, betting that it will rally support among voters who were disappointed that the court blocked the first one, which would have eliminated up to $20,000 in debt for tens of millions of borrowers. Vice President Kamala Harris held a round-table discussion with a teacher, a nurse and a social worker in Philadelphia. Miguel A. Cardona, the education secretary, spoke in New York City.

“We need you to stay in these jobs doing this work,” Ms. Harris said in the library of an elementary school. “And you shouldn’t have to make a decision about whether you serve or are able to pay your bills.”

But beyond the threat of legal action, the president faces steep obstacles just because of the calendar. The new plan has not yet been published in the Federal Register, which will kick off a required, monthslong public comment period before it can take effect. Officials said on Sunday only that they hoped some of the provisions would begin going into effect in “early fall” of this year.

Administration officials hope that the president’s supporters will give him credit for trying, even if many of the borrowers do not end up seeing any relief before they go to the ballot box. Andrew O’Neill, the legislative director for Indivisible, a liberal advocacy organization, praised Mr. Biden’s announcement.

“Progressives have led the fight for student debt cancellation, and Joe Biden has responded,” he said in a statement. “More than 30 million folks will now get relief from Biden’s programs. That’s a huge deal.”

White House officials have been scrambling for months to respond to the anger about student loans among the president’s base. In one poll released last month, more than 70 percent of young people said the issue of student loan forgiveness was “important” or “very important” to them as they make their decision in the 2024 election campaign.

Officials said the five groups of people targeted in the new plan will address most of the egregious issues that some borrowers have with their student loans.

People whose loans have grown beyond the amount they originally borrowed because of interest would have up to $20,000 of that interest wiped away, leaving them to repay only the amount they originally borrowed. People making less than $120,000 a year, or couples making less than $240,000, would qualify to have all of their interest forgiven.

Officials said that 23 million people would most likely have all of their interest-related balances waived from that provision.

About two million borrowers who already qualify to have their student loans waived under existing programs have not applied for relief. Under the new rules, the Education Department would be authorized to cancel the debt for those people without their having to apply.

People who took out federal student loans for undergraduate degrees and began repaying them more than 20 years ago would automatically have the debt canceled under the new plan. Graduate students who borrowed money and began repaying 25 years ago would have their debt canceled.

Officials said that about 2.5 million people would qualify under that rule.

People who borrowed money to attend colleges that have since lost their certification or their eligibility to participate in the federal student aid program would have their debt canceled. Officials did not say how many people that would affect. And people who are especially burdened with other expenses — such as high medical debt or child care — could apply to have their student loans forgiven.

Officials did not estimate how many people might qualify for what they called the “hardship” programs.

Nicholas Nehamas contributed reporting from Philadelphia.

Speech on Parents On Annual Day

Annual Day is a big day for you, isn’t it? But it’s equally exciting for your parents too! They love to see you shine on stage and can’t wait to cheer for you.

But have you ever thought about their feelings on this special day? Let’s explore how Annual Day makes your parents glow with pride.

1-minute Speech on Parents On Annual Day

Good day everyone. It’s a joy to share a few thoughts about a special group of people today – our parents, on this Annual Day.

Firstly, parents are our pillars of strength. They stand by us, guide us, and support us. They are our first teachers, showing us how to walk, talk, behave, and much more. We can’t thank them enough. They are our superheroes in the true sense.

Secondly, parents give us our dreams. They listen to our thoughts, understand our desires, and help us reach our goals. They believe in us, even when we find it hard to believe in ourselves. They are the wind under our wings, helping us to fly high.

Thirdly, parents are our biggest fans on Annual Day. They sit in the audience, their eyes shining with pride as we perform on stage. Their applause is the loudest, their smiles the brightest. They make our achievements feel special and our failures less painful.

Lastly, we as a school, owe so much to our parents. They trust us with their precious children. They work with us, help us, support us to make each Annual Day a grand success. They are our partners in this journey to shape young minds.

So today, let’s take a moment to appreciate our parents. Let’s say a big ‘thank you’ to them. Because without them, we wouldn’t be who we are today. Without them, this Annual Day would not be possible. To all the parents out there, we salute you, we honor you, and most importantly, we cherish you. Thank you for being our guiding stars!

2-minute Speech on Parents On Annual Day

Good day to you all! Let’s talk about a day that is very special for all of us. It’s the Annual Day of our school. But who makes it special? You might think it’s the teachers, the students, or maybe the principal. Yes, they are part of it. But today, we’re going to focus on a group of people who are behind the scenes, yet the most important – our parents.

Parents are the silent contributors to Annual Day. They are the strength behind our performances and the pillar of our success. They help us practice our lines, they encourage us when we stumble, and they cheer us on when we perform on stage. Without their support, our Annual Day wouldn’t be as colorful and lively as it is.

Moving on, let’s discuss the joy parents feel on Annual Day. Have you ever noticed your mom and dad’s faces when you are up on the stage? They beam with pride, their eyes shining brighter than any star in the sky. Each clap, each cheer, is a testament to their endless love and belief in us. For them, our happiness, our achievements are their rewards, making the Annual Day a celebration of their dedication and hard work.

Next, let’s acknowledge the sacrifices parents make for Annual Day. They take days off work, adjust their schedules, and sometimes even sleep less to ensure we have the perfect costume, the best props, and enough practice. They put our needs before theirs, just to see us shine on stage. Their sacrifices are a testament to their unconditional love and the lengths they would go to make us happy.

Lastly, let’s reflect on the lessons we learn from our parents on Annual Day. From them, we learn about perseverance, when they motivate us to keep trying even when we forget our lines. We learn about dedication, when they stay up late helping us practice. We learn about love, when they cheer for us, even if we miss a step or two. Our parents, through their actions, teach us invaluable life lessons on Annual Day.

So, let’s take a moment to appreciate our parents. Let’s thank them for their support, their joy, their sacrifices, and their lessons. Their love makes every Annual Day memorable and every performance possible. Let’s give a big round of applause for our parents, the real stars of Annual Day!

Thank you for lending your ears and your hearts to these words. Let’s remember to make our parents proud, not just on Annual Day, but every day. After all, they are our biggest fans and our strongest supporters. Let’s cherish them, thank them, and love them, for they make our world a better place.
