Essays on My City | My Favorite City Essay For Students

Chandigarh is where I live. This is my home and I was born and raised here. I live in the most beautiful city in the country. Haryana and Punjab are both union territories of India and it is both their capitals.

My Favorite City Chandigarh

In fact, Chandigarh is India’s first planned city. Its origins can be traced back to the period following independence. When India was partitioned, Punjab was likewise split. Lahore, the capital of Punjab, was incorporated into the newly formed Pakistan and the state was thus left without a capital. Chandigarh was planned as a capital for Punjab. Eastern Punjab was divided into two states in 1966. As a result, it came to be known as Haryana. Chandigarh is the capital of both Punjab and Haryana.

Chandigarh City – Planned and Organized

Chandigarh is known for its well-planned cityscape. All over the world, it is admired for its design and architecture. Pt. Devendranath, the then Indian Prime Minister, had visualized it as his dream city. A special care was taken to build the building that was built by Jawahar Lal Nehru.

It was designed by Albert Mayer, a prominent American architect. This city’s architecture is credited to popular French architect Le Corbusier. In the city, there are different sectors, and each sector has its own market and residential area. There are many beautiful trees in the city. Sector 1 of Chandigarh contains the artificial lake Sukhna Lake that is the city’s main attraction. A popular spot in the city since 1958, it was created in 1958. It has been built with a systematic approach by the people of Chandigarh.

It is not just that the city is well designed, but it is also kept very clean in every aspect. You won’t find any litter around as you would in other parts of the country. The police are extremely vigilant in the city when it comes to traffic. Here, breaking traffic rules is not allowed. All levels of discipline are maintained. Here, life is peaceful and harmonious.

Sukhna Lake – My Favourite Spot

Sukhna Lake is my favorite place in the city. Every day, the place becomes more happening. Mornings here are completely different from evenings. It’s peaceful and serene in the morning because the air is fresh. There is no better place to unwind and relax. Evenings are busy with boaters and snackers taking advantage of the lake’s amenities.

Children have also been provided with electronic swings. During the evening hours, the place is bustling with activity. It’s a great place to go out with friends and family. Both early morning and evening are convenient times for me to visit the location. Whether it is peaceful, quiet or crowded, I love it all.

My city is more than just my home. It is my lifeline. I would like to live here for the rest of my life. Any other city would not be as peaceful and happy for me.

Essay on My Favorite City For Children

I moved with my father to a new city when I was a young child. We have moved as many as four times since I was a child. Until I moved to Jaipur, I never thought there would be one place I could truly call home. We moved to this place less than two years ago, but it feels like home already.

My family and I are thankful for the house we are staying in and the school I attend, as well as a neighborhood in close proximity to the markets and historical monuments. It’s an amazing place to live, but the people here are what I love the most.

There are a lot of warm and friendly people here. Our neighbor aunt is always ready to assist my mother whenever our father is traveling on official business. My best friend is her daughter, who is also friendly and as funny as she is. My school has given me great friends as well.

I also enjoy how much there is to explore in this city. Ancient monuments, beautiful temples, and bazaars full of clothes and home décor items abound here. This city has everything I love. The place I would like to call my own has finally arrived. It is my home and I would like to live here forever.

Essay on My City Lucknow:

Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich cities in India. It is also known as the ‘City of Nawabs’ due to its long-standing association with the Nawabi culture.

As a proud resident of this beautiful city, I can say that Lucknow has a charm like no other. From its delicious cuisine to its stunning monuments, there are countless reasons why this city holds a special place in my heart.

Historical Significance

Lucknow has a long and eventful history that dates back to the ancient times. It was ruled by various dynasties such as the Mughals, Nawabs of Awadh, and later the British. Each ruler left their mark on the city, resulting in a unique blend of Islamic, Hindu, and colonial architecture.

The famous landmarks like Bara Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, and Chota Imambara are living examples of this rich heritage. Whenever I visit these places, the grandeur and craftsmanship leave me spellbound.

Rich Culture and Traditions

Lucknow is renowned for its tehzeeb (etiquette) and adab (manners). The people here are warm and welcoming, with a great sense of hospitality. The city is also famous for its ‘pehle-aap’ (you first) culture, where everyone shows respect to each other by letting others go first.

This traditional value is deeply ingrained in the hearts of Lucknowites and adds to the charm of the city. The festivals like Eid, Diwali, Holi, and Dussehra are celebrated with great fervor and unite people from different backgrounds. As a result, Lucknow is known for its secularism and communal harmony.

Culinary Delights

The cuisine of Lucknow is a food lover’s paradise. The city is famous for its kebabs, biryanis, and rich gravies that are influenced by Mughlai and Awadhi traditions. Tunday Kebabi, Galouti Kebab, and Kulfi Falooda are some of the must-try dishes when in Lucknow.

The popular street food like chaat, samosa, and jalebi also has a unique taste here due to the use of ‘Lucknawi masalas’ (spices). Every time I go out to eat in Lucknow, I am spoilt for choice and end up indulging in a gastronomic adventure.

Emerging as a Modern City

While Lucknow is known for its old-world charm, it is also rapidly developing into a modern city. The infrastructure has improved significantly with the development of malls, multiplexes, and IT parks. Many renowned universities and educational institutes have also been established here, making Lucknow an emerging hub for education.

The city’s transport system has also undergone a transformation with the introduction of metro trains, making commuting easier and faster. I am proud to see my city grow and evolve while still maintaining its cultural roots.

In conclusion, Lucknow is more than just a city for me. It is a place where history, culture, and modernity harmoniously coexist.

The people, food, and traditions make this city a unique destination that leaves an everlasting impression on anyone who visits. As the famous quote goes, “Lucknow nahi dekha toh kuch nahi dekha” (If you haven’t seen Lucknow, you haven’t seen anything).

I can attest to this statement as no matter how many times I have explored this city; there is always something new to discover and fall in love with. So if you ever get a chance, do visit Lucknow and experience its magic for yourself. You won’t be disappointed! So keep on exploring this beautiful city of Nawabs and make unforgettable memories. Happy travels!

My Favorite City Paris Essay:

Paris, the city of love and lights. The very name conjures up images of romantic walks along the Seine, iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame, and mouth-watering pastries from quaint little bakeries. It’s no wonder that Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world.

But beyond the tourist attractions and Instagram-worthy spots, Paris is a city with a rich history and culture. From the art of the Louvre to the fashion houses of Champs-Élysées, there is something for every interest in this vibrant city.

In this essay, I will share with you my personal experiences and favorite things about Paris.

One of the first things that comes to mind when thinking about Paris is its food. From delicate macarons to crispy baguettes, there is no shortage of delicious treats to indulge in.

The city is also known for its fantastic restaurants, ranging from cozy bistros to Michelin-starred fine dining establishments. As a food lover myself, I couldn’t resist trying out various dishes from different parts of the world in Paris. But what truly stood out for me was the traditional French cuisine, prepared with utmost care and attention to detail.

My favorite meal in Paris has got to be escargots (snails) served with garlic butter and parsley – a dish that may sound intimidating to some, but is actually quite delicious and definitely worth trying.

Aside from the food, another aspect of Paris that I adore is its architecture. Every corner of the city seems to be filled with beautiful buildings, each with their own unique story. From the Gothic grandeur of Notre-Dame to the opulent Palace of Versailles, there is no shortage of impressive structures in Paris.

But what I find most charming are the quaint residential areas, with their colorful houses and intricate balconies adorned with flower pots. Taking a stroll through these neighborhoods and soaking in the beauty of the city’s architecture is one of my favorite things to do in Paris.

And of course, I cannot talk about Paris without mentioning its art scene. The city is home to some of the world’s most renowned museums and galleries, including the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, and Centre Pompidou. Being able to see famous works of art such as the Mona Lisa and Starry Night in person was an unforgettable experience for me.

But what I love even more is stumbling upon street art while wandering around the city. Paris has a thriving street art scene, with many talented artists showcasing their creativity on the walls of buildings and along the banks of the Seine.

Another aspect of Paris that I appreciate is its parks and gardens. Despite being a bustling city, Paris has many green spaces for people to relax and unwind in.

The Luxembourg Gardens, with its picturesque fountains and flowerbeds, is one of my favorites. It’s the perfect spot for a picnic or simply to sit and read a book while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

In conclusion, Paris is a city that captivates visitors with its beauty, culture, and charm. From the food to the architecture to the art, there is so much to love about this magical place. It’s no wonder that it remains one of my favorite cities in the world and a place I always long to return to.

As Audrey Hepburn famously said, “Paris is always a good idea.” So whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular traveler, I highly recommend adding Paris to your list of must-visit destinations. Bon voyage!

Everyday, millions of tourists from all over the world visit my city to experience its rich culture and astounding architecture, such as the Red Fort built by Shah Jahan and Qutub Minar, built by Qutb-din-Aibak.

200 Words Essay On My City

I was born and brought up in New Delhi. My city is one of the busiest cities in the country. Delhi is crowded and filled with marketplaces such as Sarojini Nagar and Connaught Place, which are flocked by thousands of shoppers daily.

Education And Work | Delhi also has many educational institutes and coaching centres. Students from all over the country come here to prepare for their dream jobs. Many huge multinational companies like Google and Microsoft have their offices here and therefore it has a large working population that lives here and provides their services.

Pollution | Unfortunately, my city is one of the most polluted cities in the world because of the numerous development and construction projects that are perpetually on. It is also home to a lot of morning traffic as people commute to and fro work in buses and cars.

Diversity | Since it is the capital city of India, people from different parts of the country relocate to Delhi, resulting in an amazing transfusion of culture. Even my school has children coming from different cultures and practices.

I love my city, and I especially enjoy its diversity and mixed culture. However, I just wish that the government and citizens could be a little more conscious about the alarming pollution levels.

500 Words Essay On My City

New Delhi, the city I proudly call my home, has been a centre of art, architecture, culture, and trade for centuries. It has a population of over one crore and is situated on the banks of the Yamuna river. I have been living in this city for 18 years. Since the population is huge, most of us in Delhi live in apartments built in high-rise buildings.

An Urban Centre

The city is closely woven with a vast metro network connecting it to other metropolises in the National Capital Region. My city has an effective public transportation system, and lakhs of people travel by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and the metro, on a daily basis. A major part of the population of my city consists of the younger generation studying in colleges or working in offices.

Places To See

There are many other marketplaces in my city. New Delhi also has many malls, cafés, and parks. The parks in my city are lovely, such as the Lodhi Garden, Central Park, and the Garden of Five Senses, and are always flocked by visitors.

New Delhi remains a big hustle and bustle the whole day, even at midnight. It is an urban centre in the true sense.

Architecture

Delhi has a rich history and numerous monuments, such as mosques, forts, and mausoleums. Places such as India Gate, Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, and Jama Masjid are architectural marvels and have great historical importance. Many great rulers and historically important figures have their tombs in my city. Delhi is also home to the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Parliament of India. I am always left in awe whenever I visit these monuments.

Foodies’ Heaven

Delhi is famous for its food. Parathas from the Paratha Gali in Chandni Chowk, Momos in Lajpat Nagar, and chicken stalls in Jama Masjid are enjoyed by tourists and visitors worldwide. From roadside stalls to lavish and expensive restaurants, you can always find good food in my city, for your taste buds to relish. My favourite food is the momos, famous as “Delhi ke momos” in the country.

What I Love About Delhi

Although there is hardly anything about Delhi that I do not like, here are a few things I love the most about my city:-

I love travelling by metro. The metro in my city is very clean, fast, and affordable. I love to explore my city.

I have explored the bazaars and many of my favourite places numerous times with my friends. Likewise, I am particularly fond of the Sarojini Market in my city because it has cheap clothes and great food stalls.

The best place in my city is the Delhi zoo. I love watching different kinds of animals. My favourite animal in the zoo is the giraffe. I also like watching different types of birds.

Despite the problem of alarming pollution levels, I love my city for what it is. It still is a beautiful place to live and has so much to offer, being the capital of India. My city has played a huge role in making me the person I am today. It has been home of my parents and grandparents for years. I have fond memories of my city which I can never part away with. Everything about my city is cherishable and unique to me.

My favorite city is Toronto; it is a great city for three reasons which are is to live, work, and for tourism. The first reason is that Toronto is great city to live. It is quiet, clean and safe city to live in. Also, it is multicultural city, which is advantage for us, we could learn about different countries and cultures. For example, I remember when I was in high school that we celebrated the Multicultural Day. On that day everyone wore their cultural clothes, brought and shared cultural foods, also there were some representatives from each culture shared some important aspects of each culture. As a result I learned about different cultures and languages in Toronto. Toronto is good for education. They give more freedom to people. For example, in Toronto you could study as much you can, but back home in Sri Lanka we can only study up to certain age. The second reason is Toronto is good place to find a decent job. Toronto has many companies & factories; therefore we could get job related to our field which we are studying in. Moreover, we have lot of opportunities to start small business in Toronto. Furthermore there are many fast food restaurants so we could find job as part time. For example, most of the students in Toronto working as part time in fast food restaurants. So they could experience themselves in working field. Finally, Toronto has many interesting places for tourists. I would like to talk about few spots which are CN Tower and Air Canada Center. CN Tower a great place for tourists. It is one of the famous places in Toronto because its world's tallest free standing building which is located in Downtown. The gates are big, and the scenery spreads across 240 acres of land, having more than 1854 varieties of plants. I love my city and plan to continue living there even after graduating. Finding a job in my city is not hard, and the education here is excellent. Many high school graduates get summer jobs, and I look forward to working on many small projects when I get free time. I can’t wait to explore the several opportunities found in my city. I feel fortunate to live in my town, and my friends feel the same way too.

My topic today is my favorite city , my favorite city. Sydney is my favorite city. It is a big city located in Australia. Some people maybe thinks that the city seems ordinary and simple. However, if we compare it with other famous cities in the world, for example, the fashionable Paris , prosperous New York , historic London and so on, I am deeply convinced that Sydney is worth a visit. When it comes to Sydney, most people's impressions of Sydney are magnificent scenery and natural features.

I also learn something after seeing the "Three Sisters' Rock in Blue Mountain. I feel quite sad when knowing that these three poor sisters were transformed into rocks by a wizard in order to escape from the war, however, the wizard was dead in the wa

r. That is, the three poor girls would become rocks forever. I think that we should show our love to our family and friends all the time, because you don't know what will happen in the future. You can also enjoy the panorama by walking on air 268 meters above stunning Sydney, with the city streets erectly beneath your feet.

Look down through the glass floor viewing platform for a bird's-eye perspective of the bustling city below, and you will be amazed at the spectacle of Sydney Tower beneath your feet. What a impressive sight it is! It is true to say that the Sydney Opera House is also the most famous representative of Australia. It is designed by a Danish architect Corn Son. The roof of Sydney Opera House are made of many shells. When I stand far away the

house, it looks like a ship on the sea and I feel its grandeur. Hat' s more, the experience of embracing koalas is also delighted.

To be honest with you, if is really hard to hug koalas. First of all, you must cross your fingers, with your palms spread out flat, and then you have to try hard to hold the cute koala, because it is indeed heavier than you think it is. After that, you have to take care of its sharp claws for fear that you will get hurt. However I am excited about the experience to embrace the cute koala. SST Marry Cathedral is full of treasures and devotional objects. Around the walls of the isles are located the Stations of the Cross, painted in oils in 1885.

In the western transept is a marble replica of Michelangelo Pieta, the original of which is in Rome. This sculpture was brought to Australia for display and was later donated to the cathedral. I am fascinated with the colorful glasses and the mosaic floor. I feel peaceful at that time. What's better, when we left the cathedral, it rained so hard that I got wet all over my body. I don't mind at all because it seemed that I was baptized by God. It is such a wonderful coincidence and beautiful memory.

As far as I am concerned, traveling indeed does us good. By traveling, we can leave our worries behind. You will never understand what the local culture is actually like until you visit the place in person. In my points of view, there are many advantages in Australia as follow, for example:

environmental conservation, the high morality, tourism industry and so on. If someone asked me to recommend a city for tourism, I would not insolate to say "Sydney a good place to vaults " I nana you Tort your listening and hope you have a nice day.

Towards Perm as a Science City

Posted by Martin Dubbeling

6608c41ec0f6

The solutions proposed aim at exploiting all infrastructure, equipment and intangible assets that could help the city of Perm to develop a coherent and effective urban strategy that would lead Perm towards becoming a “knowledge hub”. The infrastructure and assets characterize not only the urban fabric, understood in the physical sense, but also the civic fabric. By acting on these structural means a paradigm shift can be implemented and a local economy triggered where knowledge is a catalyst for new development processes and for a matrix that generates a new, robust network of economic, social and cultural rights. At the end of the intense week the UPAT team presented their findings, analysis, and proposals to an eager audience, who seemed genuinely pleased with the suggestions. The UPAT workshop provides a forum for the sharing of ideas, providing guidance, and making strategic planning recommendation to a community or city.

Perm: Europe's easternmost city

my favourite city essay

The city of Perm, located in the Urals foothills, is, geographically speaking, the most easterly city in Europe. Yekaterinburg, which is situated further to the east, beyond the Urals ridge, is located in Asia. Yet, while the whole world thinks that Europe ends at Perm, its citizens are convinced that it begins there.

Perm owes its birth to the mountains that separate Europe from Asia. One of the first copper-smelting works in the Urals was built there in the early 18 th century. As production developed, the settlement grew and Empress Catherine II (the great) soon signed a decree creating the city of Perm around the plant. For centuries, the city developed as an industrial center, so it is not surprising that the working people in Perm welcomed the October Revolution of 1917. In 1940, the city was renamed Molotov, but not for long, as its former name was restored in the late 1950s. Today Perm is a leader of Russian heavy industry.

In recent years, however, the city has been striving to rid itself of its image as Russia’s industrial capital and be recognized as a cultural capital. Can a mighty industrial city, studded with factories, turn overnight into a capital of fashion shows, music and modern arts? The local people are confident that they can do it; the local museum features ancient local artifacts such as wooden idols and bronze animal medallions alongside modern art. Artists and musicians come to Perm to lecture and give master classes and, once every two years, the city hosts the Diaghilev Seasons, a classical festival in memory of the famous ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev. This is not accidental – the guiding spirit of the famous Russian Seasons in Paris lived in Perm with his family for a long time and graduated from the local school. This year, the city had its first ever White Nights multicultural festival, which lasted a whole month. The authorities hoped the festival would attract hundreds of thousands of tourists but in reality there were fewer. This was partly due to poor promotion of the festival events and partly to the lack of a convenient tourist infrastructure, including information centers, cheap hotels, bicycle rentals and even toilets.

Even so, Perm is persevering. Like other major Russian cities, last June Perm opened a pedestrian street, its answer to Moscow’s Arbat. At present, it looks somewhat wild and provincial: a patchy asphalt surface, street vendors with nothing to do, a couple of artisans and a children’s playground. Yet the pedestrian street is already included in the standard sightseeing tour that winds around the center. The tour, called The Green Line, links key historical sights of old Perm such as merchants’ houses, churches and monuments. Not surprisingly, it also includes museums, such as the Perm Museum of Local Lore housed in a sumptuous villa that used to belong to the arts patron Nikolai Meshkov. This imposing building, with its columns and stucco moldings, overlooks the Kama River. Its storerooms and exhibition halls contain all the treasures of the city’s many centuries of history. A little back from the riverbank, the Museum of Perm Antiquities features a vast paleontology collection: skeletons of the ancient lizards that gave their name to one of the Palaeozoic periods and the legendary Perm mammoth. An alternative tourist route, called The Red Line, was inaugurated more recently. The places of the greatest romantic dramas played out in the city are marked in red on the city map.

Works of art and stone monuments are not the city’s only attractions. Because of its unusual history and geographical position, Perm has produced many remarkable personalities, some of whom became legends in their own lifetime.

Take Alexei Bessonov, a well-known local communist, an active blogger and an irrepressible public campaigner. He jogs in the morning and, thanks to his robust health, is ever ready to fight for the ideals of the Communist Party. He has come up with some startling initiatives. For example, he proposed turning the city hall into a pretrial detention centre and he tried to organize guerilla units to oppose the cultural reforms. Bessonov’s activities are hailed by the local media, and he has long been a living legend in the city. You can see him all over the place: In the morning he often jogs through the city’s main streets and, at noon, he can be seen leading a demonstration and carrying a banner in front of government buildings. Another local celebrity is Alexander Zhunev, a street artist who holds degrees in economics and geology. When he painted his first graffiti in 2008, he realized this was what he had been born to do. Now people come from afar to look at his works. If you see a portrait of the poet Sergei Yesenin that is as tall as 10-storey building, or Spongebob Squarepants atop an electrical transformer box, or public phones in the shape of a fish or a cat’s head, you can be sure Alexander Zhunev has been here with his spray paint. And it is a good idea to visit the places that he has visited.

In contrast, Mikhail Shmakov has disliked Perm from the time he was a child. He thought the city was drab and gloomy. To escape the drabness, Shmakov and his wife set out on a voyage around the world. They have already crossed Africa and South America. Having seen half the world, Shmakov now admits that he does not want to leave his home city for good.

“Paradoxically, after visiting thousands of cities, it was brought home to me that I was lucky to have been born in Perm,” Shmakov said. “I have hated Perm all my life but have recently come to like its cozy provincial style and atmosphere of a wilderness.”

The “wilderness” surrounds the city in the shape of thick forests and the deep, dark waters of the Kama, a major river that slashes right through the middle of Perm. Today, though, the city is divided not only by water. One part dreams of turning it into a cultural capital and the other part wants it to be an industrial city, as of old. How to keep both camps happy? Perm is in the midst of stormy processes that will certainly be interesting to watch.

Brits’ favourite UK city has been revealed — and London no longer tops the list

Picture of London skyline

It’s official: London has lost its crown as the UK’s favourite city.

Despite the fact the capital has won a slew of awards and titles over the years – and in 2023 was named the best city in the world for the ninth year in a row – it seems that Brits aren’t so convinced.

According to a recent YouGov survey , only 63% of people held a positive opinion of the city, which ranks third in the list.

It was actively disliked by 17% of those asked, with a further 20% having no opinion of the city whatsoever.

The favourite, meanwhile, was the city of York, which scored an impressive 74% in the popularity contest. Trailing just behind was Edinburgh, which got a 71% approval rating.

You can view the full list here .

York Old Town, England

It should come as no shock that the northern city is so favourable – just last month York was dubbed the UK’s ‘friendliest’ place by travel site Restless.co.uk. In 2023, it was also named one of the most ‘welcoming’ cities in the world by Booking.com.

Given the city’s rich history, picturesque cobbled streets and vibrant culture, it’s not hard to see why York is so beloved. It’s also been the backdrop to many movies and TV shows over the years – the ancient Shambles street is even believed to be the inspiration for Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley.

The most popular cities in the UK

  • Edinburgh – 71%
  • London – 60%
  • Cambridge – 60%
  • Oxford – 58%
  • Durham – 57%
  • Brighton – 57%
  • Manchester – 57%
  • Portsmouth – 55%
  • Newcastle upon Tyne – 55%
  • Liverpool – 54%
  • Bristol – 54%
  • Exeter – 54%
  • Cardiff – 51%
  • Plymouth – 51%
  • Glasgow – 50%
  • Norwich – 48%
  • Belfast – 47%
  • Poole – 46%
  • Gloucester – 46%

In 2023, just under 3 million people visited York’s major attractions and, according to its tourism board, travel contributed a staggering £1.7 billion to the local economy.

The previous year, York welcomed a total of 8.9 million visitors – 1.2 million of which came from overseas.

Speaking of the feat, Sarah Loftus, managing director of Make it York, said: ‘We’re extremely proud to see that the figures highlight the hard work coming from local businesses and organisations – tourism has a significant impact on York and our economy, not only be creating thousands of jobs for local people but also by fostering understanding and relationships amongst communities and propelling us towards a brighter, more connected future.
