గత ఏడాది టాలీవుడ్ సాలిడ్ హారర్ థ్రిల్లర్ చిత్రం “మాసూద” తో మంచి హిట్ అందుకున్న యంగ్ నటుడు తిరువీర్ హీరోగా నటించిన లేటెస్ట్ చిత్రం “పరేషాన్” రిలీజ్ కి వచ్చింది. మరి కామెడీ ఎంటర్టైనర్ గా వచ్చిన ఈ చిత్రం ఎలా ఉందో సమీక్షలో తెలుసుకుందాం రండి.

ఇక కథలోకి వస్తే..ఐసాక్(తిరువీర్) తనతో తన ఫ్రెండ్స్ సత్తి, పాషా మైదక్ అలాగే ఆర్జీవీ లు సింగరేణి ప్రాంతంలో అల్లరి చిల్లరగా తిరుగుతూ ఉంటారు. అయితే ఈ అంతా కూడా తాగుడుకు బాగా బానిసలూ కాగా ఓ రోజు సత్తి, పాషా లకు అర్జెంట్ గా డబ్బు అవసరం పడడంతో ఐసాక్ తన తండ్రి డబ్బులు ఇస్తాడు. అలాగే మరోపక్క ఐసాక్, శిరీష(పావని కరణం) తో డీప్ లవ్ లో ఉంటాడు, అయితే వీరిద్దరూ శారీరకంగా కూడా ఒకటి కావడంతో ఆమె ప్రెగ్నెంట్ అయ్యినట్టుగా ఐసాక్ కి తెలుస్తుంది. మరి ఇలా తెలిసిన తర్వాత వారికి ఎదురైన ఇబ్బందులు ఏంటి? ఈ సమయంలో తన ఫ్రెండ్స్ ఏం చేశారు అనే ఇతర అంశాలు తెలియాలి అంటే ఈ చిత్రాన్ని చూడాల్సిందే.

రీసెంట్ టైం లో తెలంగాణా నేపథ్యంలో చాలా చిత్రాలు వస్తున్నాయి. ఆ కోవకి ఈ సినిమా కూడా చెందుతుంది అని చెప్పొచ్చు. అక్కడి ప్రాంతం మాటలు, పాటలు అంతా కూడా చక్కగా ఉంటాయి అలాగే ఈ అంశాలు తెలంగాణ ఆడియెన్స్ కి బాగా కనెక్ట్ కూడా అవ్వొచ్చు. అలాగే సినిమాలో కామెడి ట్రాక్స్ గాని సినిమాలో కొన్ని రొమాంటిక్ ట్రాక్ లు బాగున్నాయి.

అలాగే మెయిన్ లీడ్ మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ గాని ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. అలాగే ఫస్టాఫ్ కాస్త ఎంగేజింగ్ గానే అనిపిస్తుంది. ఇక నటుడు తిరువీర్ అయితే ఇప్పుడిప్పుడే లైమ్ లైట్ లోకి వస్తున్నాడు. టక్ జగదీష్, మాసూద లో చాలా డిఫరెంట్ షేడ్ ఉన్న రోల్స్ చేసాడు. అలాగే ఈ చిత్రంలో కూడా పూర్తి డిఫరెంట్ రోల్ కాగా అందులో చాలా సెటిల్డ్ పెర్ఫామెన్స్ ని కనబరిచాడు. ముఖ్యంగా తన కామెడీ టైమింగ్ బాగుంది. ఇంకా తన ఫ్రెండ్స్ గా కనిపించిన వారు మంచి నటన కనబరిచారు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

ఈ చిత్రంలో మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ విషయానికి వస్తే ఈ చిత్రంలో మరీ అంత గొప్ప స్టోరీ లైన్ ఏమీ కనిపించదు. చాలా సింపుల్ అండ్ రొటీన్ లైన్ కనిపిస్తుంది. పైగా కథనం కూడా చాలా రొటీన్ గానే కనిపిస్తుంది. కామెడీ ఉంది కానీ అది అన్ని చోట్లా ఆకట్టుకోదు. దీనితో సగం సినిమా బోర్ గానే సాగదీతగా అనిపిస్తుంది. ఇక మరికొన్ని కామెడీ సీన్స్ అయితే పెట్టారు కానీ అవి నవ్వు తెప్పించవు.

సెకండాఫ్ కూడా అంత ఇంపాక్ట్ కలిగించదు. అలాగే చాల సీన్స్ అయితే ఏదో కావాలని పెట్టె యత్నం చేశారు కానీ అవి కూడా ఆకట్టుకోవు. ఇంకా సెకండాఫ్ లో కొన్ని సీన్స్ ని కట్ చేసేయాల్సింది. అనవసర సీన్స్ ఎక్కువ ఉన్నట్టు అనిపిస్తాయి. అలాగే సినిమాలో మరో మేజర్ మైనస్ ఏదన్నా ఉంది అంటే సినిమాలో సరైన ఎమోషనల్ కంటెంట్ కూడా ఎక్కడ లేదు. దీనితో అయితే సినిమాలో సరైన ఎమోషన్ కూడా లేదు.

సాంకేతిక వర్గం :

ఈ సినిమా నిర్మాణ విలువలు బాగానే ఉన్నాయి. అలాగే టెక్నికల్ టీం విషయానికి వస్తే..యశ్వంత్ మ్యూజిక్ ఈ చిత్రానికి పెద్ద ఎసెట్ అని చెప్పొచ్చు. అలాగే వాసు సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ కూడా డీసెంట్ గా ఉంది. డైలాగ్స్ బాగున్నాయి. అలాగే ఎడిటింగ్ మాత్రం ఇంకా చేయాల్సింది. మెయిన్ గా సెకండాఫ్ లో. ఇక దర్శకుడు రూపక్ విషయానికి వస్త.. ఈ చిత్రానికి తాను పరవాలేదు అనిపిస్తాడు.సాధారణ లైన్ తోనే వచ్చిన అక్కడక్కడా కామెడీ నరేషన్ తో ఎంటర్టైన్ చేసే ప్రయత్నం అయితే చేశారు. కానీ ఇది పూర్తి స్థాయిలో ఆకట్టుకోదు. మెయిన్ గా సరైన ఎమోషన్స్ కూడా లేవు.

ఇక మొత్తంగా చూసినట్టు అయితే ఈ “పరేషాన్” చిత్రంలో అక్కడక్కడా కొన్ని కామెడీ పోర్షన్స్ వరకు పర్వాలేదనిపిస్తుంది. అలాగే తిరువీర్ మంచి నటన కనబరిచాడు. అయితే ఆసక్తిగా సాగని సెకండాఫ్, నవ్వు తెప్పించని కొన్ని కామెడీ సీన్స్ ఇరిటేట్ చేస్తాయి. దీనితో ఈ చిత్రం జస్ట్ రొటీన్ యావరేజ్ ఫ్లిక్ గా నిలిచిపోయింది.

Pareshan Movie Review: Bros, booze, and a whole lot of growing up in between

There is something rather beautifully unassuming and uncomplicated about young, male camaraderie — at least the cinema versions of it, though I am inclined to believe there is some verisimilitude to it all. A kind that is less likely to display their emotions, lest they risk being left out and ridiculed, are shown in a lighter mien with unbridled joy and empathy at the centre of it all. Despite the enduring presence of a kind of cinema that likes to tell stories of how men transform into beacons of warmth and emotional intelligence after they meet a woman or become a father, we also see how men possess the ability to be less inhibited and more in touch with their true(r) selves in the company of other similarly aged men. Though buddy comedies are not new, this genre’s jugalbandi with a deliberate and incisive pop-anthropology lens into the culture of Telangana, is a real-time journey of delights. Unlike last week’s Mem Famous , which shares some on-the-nose similarities with Pareshan (in a strictly categorical sense), the latter is straight-up jagged and unhinged, flowing free and hitting hard like the inexpensive alcohol that features so prominently throughout the film. Pareshan makes you tipsy, but it is also followed by hangovers, as moments of painful reflection lend a cutting contrast to its visuals of intoxication and madness.

Though one is tempted to drop film-bro jargon like mumblecore and cinema verite, Pareshan , really, is stylised chaos masquerading as realism. It is not a story about a singular character. However, it pivots around Isaac (Thiruveer, in a top-notch performance), who triggers the chain of, and resultantly, endures the most pareshani here. Nor is it a story about his quirk-by-the-bucketload buddy brundam RGV, Pasha, Sathi and Maidak. It is a story of everything above, beyond and between these people, betraying form and pace to showcase these men sans a key element Telugu cinema loves so much — glorification. There is a lot of pareshani here, in both its internal ( aagam ) and external ( lolli ) renditions. If the “ Naa saavu nenu sastha, neekenduku ” dialogue from Pelli Choopulu was stretched across time and space and wrapped around a motley bunch of individuals and one town, that film would be Pareshan . It takes a village to raise a child, or in this case, a band of idiots. For starters, these men do not share the  “ mustafa mustafa / yeh dosti hum nahi todenge ” kind of friendship. There is that, for sure, albeit with the sobering reminder that these men do not think twice before treating each other terribly. There is some manipulation that sets the tone right in the beginning, as Isaac uses the money his father got for arranging a job, to get his friend Pasha out on bail. That one, ill-thought act of charity morphs into multiple money problems, as a sold bike, another stolen bike, a demanding girlfriend, another pregnant girlfriend, and a father hell-bent on reforming his wayward son complicate things, as brawls and mandhu sittings, and sometimes both together, relentlessly ensue. There is no polite way of saying this, but the relationships between Sireesha and Isaac, and Sathi and Rajitha are a pitch-perfect representation of those young couples you saw on pre-pandemic tiktoks, whose utter naivete is a source of cruel humour for their more urbane, westernised counterparts. That said, beyond the packaging, these relationships do have conflicts any city-bred couple could also have (a girl talking about the difference between lip gloss and lip balm had me in splits). 

With more and more films highlighting the Telangana milieu at large, beyond the discourse of representation and the increased bankability of these stories, there is a pronounced tone of weltanschauung making its presence here in Pareshan , vis-a-vis its cultural representation. It is easy to dismiss people drinking here as an endorsement of unchecked debauchery, but Pareshan ’s Rupak Ronaldson has succeeded at scratching the surface to contextualise the whys and the whats, and the hows behind the way people of a certain demographic belonging to a certain region behave. How often do we run away when we are faced with a problem at hand? The flight or fight response of one's garden-variety anxiety takes literal dimensions here, with alcohol and brawls always coming in the way of Isaac taking charge of his own life. The biggest depiction of ‘youth culture’ is not in Pareshan’s display of binge drinking, but in Isaac’s key conflict which is relatable to many young folks. We don’t know what to make of our lives, yet we want to but we are also not ready to listen to someone, most likely our parents, telling us how to lead our lives. There is constant friction between our expectations of who we want to be, clashing head first with what our parents want for us. Sometimes, the kids win. Other times, the parents do. Pareshan does not give you closure in that regard, though Isaac emerges from the film with some clarity and due maturity, finally learning to practise healthy boundaries. 

The weltanschauung continues to reflect in moments that do not even factor themselves into the larger proceedings of the film. Between a stray shot of a chicken made to drink some booze seconds before slaughter, groups of people making choreographed content for a local cable channel, poignant shots of folks going into a coal mine via a cable chair, a boy continuously asking for a sanna-pinisu charger, a Telugu evangelist with his English interpreter and some delightfully colloquial intro, interval and exit credits — the film crafts a beautiful love letter to Mancherial and its people — warts and all. The cinematography, by Vasu Pendem, is audacious, in the way it frames its leads in certain scenes at the centre of the frame, alongside some cool frame-within-a-frame shots. The unchoreographed-choreographed fight scenes (the male equivalent of the no-makeup makeup look), shot with tactile handheld camera moments practically make you feel the sweat and the gashes forming on your arms, as you watch the film from your cushy seat. The music is another major winning factor in the film.

It is hard to wrap your thoughts on a film that has really just opened a world for you that begs to be explored even after the end credits have rolled. But if Spaghetti Westerns gets the first part of its name due to the sheer number of Italian filmmakers directing such movies, then it would be fair to anoint this emerging sub-genre of Telangana cinema as Mutton Curry Southerns.

Rana Daggubati has presented this small Telugu film, Pareshan, directed by Rupak Ronaldson, which is set in Singareni (Telangana). Isaac (Thiruveer), Balaji aka RGV, Sathi and Pasha are a group of friends living in this village which doesn’t have too much going for it except for a coalmine. Their jobless lives revolve around drinking away, hanging out with Tiger Seenu anna and romancing the village girls.

One day it all gets complicated. Sathi urgently needs money for his relative’s surgery and Isaac ends up giving him the money which his mother asked to give his uncle. While Sathi is busy running behind Rajitha (Sai Prasanna), Isaac falls for Sireesha (Pavani Karanam). Sireesha gets extremely upset when she and Isaac end up having sex and thinks he will abandon her, but he promises to marry her soon.

Then comes another twist in their lives. Rajitha dumps Sathi as she falls for another guy, and Sireesha believes she is pregnant. Panic sets in for both Sireesha and Isaac, and he decides he will ‘take care of it’ by taking her to the hospital. Sathi, meanwhile, is out for revenge. Where will Isaac get money to help Sireesha? Does Sathi end up getting the revenge he wants? Does Isaac marry Sireesha eventually?

This is director Rupak Ronaldson’s second film and he has tried to write it like a comedy of errors. Pareshan is about the woes the various friends go through and how they end up making things worse for one another. While the first half is breezy, the second half starts to lag. There are numerous hilarious moments in this film, but given that the story is simple and very situational, it doesn’t have enough twists and turns to make it a classic. The characters in the film are everyday ones that people can relate to, but there is no soul in the story.

As for the performances, it is an ensemble cast and all the actors played their roles well. They suited the part of the village youth too. The mannerisms and way they speak are typical of Telangana and Telugu-speaking people might enjoy this. The most known face in the cast is Thiruveer, who shot to fame thanks to Masooda, and he manages to shoulder the film.

Music director Yashwanth Nag has given some music with a very local flavour that works for this film.

Pareshan is a decent attempt by the director to deliver a village-centric comedy that gives us glimpses into typical village life, like Seenu’s wedding celebrations, the church services, and so on. But one wishes it had a little bit more going for it in terms of the story to make it more impactful. Pareshan review: ‘పరేషాన్‌’ మూవీ రివ్యూ.

‘పరేషాన్‌’ కథేంటంటే.. క్రైస్తవ మతానికి చెందిన  సమర్పణ్‌(మురళీధర్‌ గౌడ్‌) ఓ సింగరేణి ఉద్యోగి. అతని కొడుకు ఐజాక్‌ (తిరువీర్‌) తిరుగుబోతు. ఐటీఐ కూడా పాసవ్వక ఊర్లో ఆవారాగా తిరుగుతుంటాడు. కొడుకును దారిలో పెట్టేందుకు తన ఉద్యోగాన్ని అతనికి అప్పజెప్పాలనుకుంటాడు. దాని కోసం పై అధికారికి రెండు లక్షల రూపాయలు లంచంగా ఇవ్వాల్సి వస్తోంది. భార్య చేతిపై ఉన్న బంగారు గాజులు అమ్మి  రెండు లక్షలను జమ చేస్తాడు.

ఆ డబ్బును మధ్యవర్తికి అప్పజెప్పి రమ్మని ఐజాక్‌ని పంపిస్తే.. అందులో కొత ఆపదలో ఉన్న తన స్నేహితుడు పాషా(బన్నీ అభిరామ్‌)కు ఇస్తాడు. మిగిలిన డబ్బు మరో స్నేహితుడు ఆగమ్‌ సత్తి(అర్జున్‌ కృష్ణ)కు ఇస్తాడు. తన తండ్రికి తెలియకముందే ఆ డబ్బును మధ్యవర్తికి ఇవ్వాలని ఐజాక్‌ తీవ్రంగా ప్రయత్నిస్తాడు. మరోవైపు ఐజాక్‌ ప్రేయసి శిరీష(పావని కరణం)తో శారీరకంగా దగ్గర అవుతాడు. ఆమెకు ప్రెగ్నెన్సీ వచ్చిందనే భయంతో పట్నం వెళ్లి పరీక్షలు చేయించాలకుంటాడు.

డబ్బులు జమ చేస్కోని ఫ్రెండ్‌ పెళ్లికి వెళ్తే.. డబ్బులు కొట్టేస్తారు. అసలు ఆ డబ్బు ఎవరు కొట్టేశారు? లంచం కోసం ఇచ్చిన డబ్బుని కొడుకు తన స్నేహితులకు ఇచ్చాడని తెలిశాక సమర్పణ్‌ రియాక్షన్‌ ఏంటి? స్నేహితులకు ఇచ్చిన డబ్బులు రాక, అదే సమయంలో ప్రేయసి ప్రెగ్నెన్సీ టెన్షన్‌.. వీటిని ఐజాక్‌ ఎలా డీల్‌ చేశాడు? అనేదే మిగతా కథ.

ఎలా ఉందంటే.. ఈ మధ్య కాలంలో సినిమాల్లో  తెలంగాణ యాస, కల్చర్‌ని ఎక్కువగా కనిపిస్తోంది.  ఆ నేపథ్యంలో తెరకెక్కే చిత్రాలను ప్రేక్షకులు బాగా ఆదరిస్తున్నారు. పరేషాన్‌ మూవీ కూడా ఆ కోవలోకే వస్తుంది. మంచిర్యాలకు చెందిన ఐదుగురు సింగరేణి పోరగాళ్ల కథ ఇది. తెలంగాణ నేటివీటీతో చాలా సహజంగా ఈ చిత్రాన్ని తెరకెక్కించాడు దర్శకుడు రూపక్‌ రొనాల్డ్‌సన్‌. సినిమా టైటిల్స్‌ నుంచి ఎండింగ్‌ వరకు ప్రతీది తెలంగాణ యాస, భాషని బేస్‌ చేసుకొని చాలా వినోదాత్మకంగా తెరకెక్కించారు. అయితే కథలో మాత్రం కొత్తదనం లేదు. 

పనీపాట లేకుండా ఆవారాగా తిరిగే కొడుకు, తిట్టే తండ్రి, ఓ లవ్‌స్టోరి, చివర్లో హ్యాపీ ఎండింగ్‌.. ఈ తరహా నేపథ్యంలో చాలా సినిమాలు వచ్చాయి. అయితే పరేషాన్‌ కూడా అలాంటి కథే.కానీ తెలంగాణ నేటివిటీని జోడించి చాలా వినోదాత్మకంగా చూపించారు. 

క్రైస్తవ మత ప్రార్థనలతో వినోదాత్మకంగా సినిమా ప్రారంభం అవుతుంది. ఐజాక్‌ స్నేహితుల నేపథ్యం, పాషా చేసే ఓ పనికి పోలీసు స్టేషన్‌దాకా అందరు వెళ్లడం, అక్కడ జరిగే కామెడీ నవ్వులు పూయిస్తుంది. ఇక స్నేహితులకు డబ్బులు ఇచ్చాక ఐజాక్‌ పడే పరేషాన్‌.. శిరీషతో ప్రేమాయణంతో ఫస్టాఫ్‌ కామెడీగా సాగుతుంది. ఇంటర్వెల్‌ ట్విస్ట్‌ పర్వాలేదు.

ఇక సెకండాఫ్‌లో కథ సింపుల్‌గా, ఎలాంటి ట్విస్టులు లేకుండా సాగుతుంది. సత్తి కోసం వెతికే సన్నివేశాలు సాగదీతగా అనిపిస్తాయి. తాగుడుకు సంబంధించిన సీన్స్‌ ప్రతిసారి చూపించడం ఇబ్బందిగా అనిపిస్తాయి. ఇక సత్తి వేలు తెగిన సీన్‌, ఐజాక్‌ బ్యాండ్‌ డ్రెస్‌ సీన్‌ థియేటర్స్‌లో నవ్వులు పూయిస్తాయి. ఎమోషనల్‌ సీన్స్‌ అంతగా వర్కౌట్‌ కాలేదు. ప్యూర్‌ తెలంగాణ నెటివిటీ, యాస కారణంగా తెలంగాణేతర ప్రేక్షకులను ఈ సినిమా అంతగా అలరించకపోవచ్చు. కానీ ఎలాంటి అంచానాలు లేకుండా థియేటర్స్‌కు వస్తే మాత్రం ‘పరేషాన్‌’ నచ్చుతుంది.

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే..  తిరువీర్‌ మంచి నటుడు. ఎలాంటి పాత్రలోనైనా ఒదిగిపోతుంటాడు. పరేషాన్‌లో కూడా అంతే. ఐజాక్‌ పాత్రలో పరకాయ ప్రవేశం చేశాడు. శిరీష పాత్రలో పావని కరణం చక్కగా నటించింది. ఆగమ్‌ సత్తిగా అర్జున్‌ కృష్ణ కొన్ని సన్నివేశాల్లో అద్భుతంగా నటించాడు. ఐజాక్‌ స్నేహితులు ఆర్జీవీగా రవి, మైదాన్‌గా, పాషాగా బన్ని అభిరామ్‌తో పాటు మిగిలిన నటీనటులు తమ పాత్రల పరిధిమేర చక్కగా నటించారు. 

ఇక సాంకేతిక విషయానికొస్తే.. యశ్వంత్‌ నాగ్‌ సంగీతం బాగుంది. సౌ సారా, ముసి ముసి నవ్వుల మంజుల పాటలు అలరిస్తాయి. నేపథ్య సంగీతం కూడా సినిమా స్థాయిని పెంచింది. వాసు పెండమ్‌ సినిమాటోగ్రఫి బాగుంది. తెలంగాణ పల్లె అందాలను తెరపై చక్కగా చూపించాడు. ఎడిటర్ పనితీరు పర్వాలేదు. నిర్మాణ విలువలు సినిమా స్థాయికి తగ్గట్లుగా ఉన్నాయి.

Pareshan review: Thiruveer stands out in this slapstick comedy set in rural Telangana

Director-screenwriter-editor Rupak Ronaldson’s latest movie , Thiruveer-starrer Pareshan , has become the talk of the town after actor Rana Daggubati announced that he would present the project through his company — Spirit Media.

The teaser grabbed the attention of audiences as it hinted that the film, set up in the rural backdrop of Telangana’s Mancherial, would be a laugh riot. Let’s check if the team succeeded in delivering its promise.

Isaac (Thiruveer) is a happy-go-lucky youth who casually goes about life without any aim or responsibility. He is happy spending time with his friends rather than focusing on studies or a job.

On the other hand, Isaac’s father Samarpan Kumar (Muralidhar Goud) is worried about his son’s future. Samarpan Kumar gathers money to bribe higher officials to get a job for Isaac in collieries.

But things go haywire and a laugh riot follows when Isaac spends the money his father collected for his job to bail his friends out of unexpected troubles. More trouble follows Isaac when his girlfriend Sireesha (Pavani Karanam) becomes pregnant.

A laugh riot

Pareshan is a comedy of errors that manages to keep the audience engaged and entertained while the characters in the story are grappling with their seemingly insurmountable series of problems.

Director Rupak Ronaldson comes up with a simple story but succeeded in generating comedy from it. The whole story revolves around Isaac’s friends, his girlfriend and his father.

However, if one observes more, there is only so much in the story which appears to be just for fun and nothing more.

Thiruveer stands out.

Barring a few, most of the actors who are featured in Pareshan are new and upcoming. Almost all of them talk in the Telangana dialect.

Thiruveer stands out among all.  He looks handsome and impressive.

Pavani Karanam is attractive in a girl-next-door role. Thiruveer and Pavani make for a good pair.

Muralidhar Goud gets a meaty role in this flick. He manages both comedy and serious scenes well, portraying the role of a worried father.

Bunny Abhiran and Anji succeed in generating comedy.

Technical crafts

Cinematographer Vasu Pendem has done a good job of capturing the rustic Telangana background and faces realistically.

Even the songs are in the Telangana dialect. Music director Yashwant Nag has done a decent job.

Pareshan movie review: writer-director rupak ronaldson delivers another hard to digest, hard to ignore film with pareshan. thiruveer surprises again with his commitment to his role..

Known for his unconventional choices, actor Thiruveer was impressive in his last film, Masooda. He again lobbed a bouncer as he announced his decision to collaborate with writer-director Rupak Ronaldson, who gave us the slapstick, over-the-top comedy Kobbari Matta. Sealing the deal was Rana Daggubatti who is presenting the film via his Spirit Media banner.

Pareshan doesn’t have much of a storyline. A group of youths – Isaac (Thiruveer), Basha (Bunny Abhiran), RGV, Satthi and Maidaku — live in a colliery town in Mancherial, and have no education, no goals and no prospects in life. All they do is pass their time with silly mischief, as they quarrel with whoever crosses their path. They understand their own place and worth in the microcosm of this colliery town.

Isaac’s father Samarpan (Muralidhar Goud) is planning to bribe his boss to give a job to his son so that he could join the team of a famous Christian preacher in the area as his translator. Meanwhile, Isaac has just fallen in love with a girl named Shireesha (Pavani Karanam).Isaac loses the money and finds out Shireesha is pregnant. The rest of the movie is about Isaac trying to get his money back and handling the situation with Shireesha before his father finds out.

The Telangana milieu shown here is etched better than the recent Balagam, Dasara or Mem Famous. Though the social representation may be more limited and true to colliery towns, certain characters, mannerisms, colloquial expressions hold true for most of Telangana.

Except Thiruveer and Muralidhar Goud, almost all other actors are new to screen. The rawness they bring along needs some getting used to. Unlike Mem Famous, the character presentation here is unpretentious and unvarnished. Background music and songs try to bring a thematic unity to the film.

The episodes showing Christian preachers and their routine may find few takers. Muralidhar Goud does well as the father, actors essaying the roles of Tiger Seenu and Marthamma also impress. Like his previous film Kobbari Matta, writer-director Rupak Ronaldson delivers another hard to digest, hard to ignore film with Pareshan. Thiruveer surprises again with his commitment to his role.

Survival thriller Manjummel Boys has become the first Malayalam film to have collected over 200 crore gross at the box office. The movie depicts a tale of friendship amidst the chaos of life, inspired by real events and filled with quality performances. Chidambaram S Poduval directed this film, with Sobin Shahir, Ganapathi, Khalid Rahman, and Sreenath Bhasi in the lead roles. PAN India production house Mythri Movie Makers is bringing this Indian box office sensation to Telugu audiences. Ahead of the release on April 6, director Chidambaram interacted with the media, and here is the transcript.

Did you expect the film to make 200 crores?

No, we didn’t. We made a good content-oriented film and believed in it completely. We never thought Manjummel Boys would collect 200 crores. I need to clarify one thing. We didn’t do this film for collections. Neither the producers, the cinematographer, nor the music composer thought about the collections.

When did you get the idea of making Manjummel Boys?

My first film, Jan.E. Man, was released in 2021. After that, I learned about the incident that happened to a few friends from Kerala who went to Guna Caves. Their stories and friendship excited me. Since then, I have been working on the project.

Did you personally meet Manjummel Boys? What is the kind of research you did?

Yes, I met them. They shared their life experiences. I understood that their story has the required material to make a film. I was very sure that this story must be told to the audience. All the friends were very excited when I approached them.

The film was shot both in real locations and on sets. Could you tell us about the making process?

The scenes that required authenticity, like the road trip and cave scenes, were shot in real locations. We built sets for scenes that needed to be shot inside the cave. The set work took about four months. The shooting was relatively easy and we enjoyed like a family during the whole process.

You used a song from Guna as a tribute to Kamal Haasan. When you decided to make the film, did you consider using that song?

When we think of Guna Caves, the first thing that comes to our mind is the song from Kamal Haasan’s Sir Guna movie. It also sets the tone for a friendship story, and that’s why we used it. We met Kamal sir and showed him the film. He liked Manjummel Boys, which was nothing short of receiving a big award.

PAN India production house Mythri Movie Makers is releasing ‘Manjummel Boys’ in Telugu. Could you tell us about their support?

Mythri Movie Makers is equally popular in Malayalam. They produced the blockbuster Pushpa. I interacted with Mythri Ravi sir, and I am very happy and proud that our film will be released through their banner. Our movie got great support, and I couldn’t have asked for more.

The film releasing in Telugu on April 6. What would you like to say to Telugu audiences?

Our Malayali people watch a lot of Telugu films, and we love them. Allu Arjun has a huge fanbase in Kerala. I hope Manjummel Boys repeats the magic in Telugu as well. I am very confident Telugu audiences will enjoy the film.
