Parsons School of Design Presents Class of 2020 Graduate Fine Arts Thesis Work Online
Parsons School of Design at the New School is pleased to launch the 2020 MFA Fine Arts Thesis website as a lead-up to Logics of Non-Exchange , the in-person thesis exhibition to be curated by Stamatina Gregory. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Logics of Non-Exchange has been temporarily postponed and will take place in New York as soon as we are able to return to campus safely.
Until then, this online platform presents the art of our 20 graduating students working across media, methods, and materials. We invite you to view work by the following outstanding emerging artists: Collyn Ahrens Aubrey, Kaeten Bonli, Paloma Rosenzweig Castillo, Rhea Jingrou Cheng, Lydia Crouse, Caroline Garcia, John Holland, Luna Jiang, Sidi He, Java Jones, Tania Khouri, Josephine Lee, Rae Lavande Pellerin, Laurel Richardson, Michael Rose, jess saldaña, Jie Shao, Kaili Smith, Coraline (Jingyan) Weng, and Snow Xuecan Ye.
These twenty artists provide a critical view of the shape of our world, exploring our highly mediated vision and the ways in which we negotiate, consume, and traffic in images. Their work makes tangible the brutal effect that digital economies have on bodies and cityscapes, throwing our traumas and erotics into sharp relief. These emerging artists explore gift economies, radical generosity, and the politics of individual and collective care. As a cohort, they remain at a distance — but their work remains as intimate as it is urgent.
View the work featured in this online exhibition at the 2020 MFA Fine Arts Thesis website .

Every space with security cameras has its blind spot. Our eyes are the cameras that constantly monitor reality. Where is the blind spot of our consciousness? The unseen is ourselves. BlindSpot is an interactive installation that points out the limitation of vision and perception. I believe the reality in which we live is beyond what we observe by our eyes. Depth, for instance, is something we see and don’t see. We think of daily objects as a relationship to it instead of the object itself. I’m attempting to perceive the world not only base on our limited recognition from sight but also reason about the content beyond the vision. In this journey, I hope the participants will gain a new insight of their perception and how they perceive the reality in an unfamiliar way.
Every space with security cameras has its blind spot. Our eyes are like the cameras that constantly monitor reality. Where is the blind spot of this space? The answer is ourselves. We learn about the world by seeing and touching while our physical body is not part of it.
Project “BlindSpot” simulates an alternate space where the visitor’s vision is extended by seeing the footage of themselves as part of the space they see in the installation. It emulates an unusual experience that overcomes this existential limitation by creating an intense encounter with the self from an outside perspective that is still your own. Before participants enter the installation, a question will be answered in a written form, “If you meet the person you’ll be in future, what would you say to yourself.” At the same time, he will receive a time ticket. The answer will be transmitted secretly to a shelf by the installation. When the time is up, the user will find the installation and pick a book from the shelf that tagged the same number of the time ticket and enter the installation. The installation will be a dim room, which has three walls of room but one of it is the projection of his vision from the back. Later he will be asked to find a message someone left for him in the book. By doing this, an intense self encounter situation is created. During the visit, the user will be asked to wear headphones, which plays ambient sound and prerecorded sounds. Such experience embodies a fundamental understanding of the limitations in how we perceive the world, and particularly ourselves.
The goal of BlindSpot for participants is to question their understanding of the relationship between the self and the world it fits in. Also it is attempting to point out the limitation of vision and perception.

Parsons School of Design MFA Interior Design Thesis
Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design | Thesis 2011
Focused design research on an aspect of the interior design field that is most significant to each individual student is the focus of graduate thesis. With the guidance of thesis faculty, research and investigation aim to advance the theoretical, technical, material and/or formal state of knowledge in the field of interior design. Thesis projects, which culminate in both a design proposal and a supportive written text, involve rigorous analytical thinking, critical questioning and coherent project development. These explorations synthesize some of the most important issues relevant to the field today. An acute understanding of environmental impact, human health, behavior and perception, social responsibility, historical precedent, theoretical understanding, material investigation and artistic methodologies are explored. Innovative methods and designs result in these first thesis projects.

These early mobile telephone systems can be distinguished from earlier closed radiotelephone systems in that they were available as a commercial service that was part of the public switched telephone network, with their own telephone numbers, rather than part of a closed network such as a police radio or taxi dispatch system.
something new about the laser tecnology i found hare.
There are very few United States based laser providers, but with a few Google searches and a bit of patience you can find one that offers high quality lasers, that are legal to own, and who also have support available to customers and anyone looking for information. See what type of help is available to you should you need it, if they have none don’t buy from them, protecting yourself and your investment is that simple.

Unveiling an Interactive and Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) Experience Through Digital Construction of a Historical Landscape Painting
Integrated visual arts graduate student hang yuan blends ancient chinese culture with virtual reality in interactive mfa exhibition.
AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University integrated visual arts graduate student Hang Yuan will share his master of fine arts thesis exhibition March 18–22 in the College of Design’s Gallery 181.
The exhibition, “Unveiling an Interactive and Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) Experience Through Digital Construction of a Historical Landscape Painting,” will be available to view from 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. each day, with a closing reception from 5–8 p.m. Friday, March 22.
A trip back in time
Visitors can expect a multi-faceted display featuring digital paintings that pay homage to the Northern Song’s traditional landscape paintings. The exhibition will also feature 3D-printed versions of some of the characters from the digital paintings, bringing them to life, Yuan said.
His work encourages visitors to interact with elements in the paintings such as flowers, fish, boats and bridges. By having viewers interact with the art, Yuan says the experience allows them to form a personal connection with the cultural richness of the period.
“I’m bridging the gap between the past and present,” Yuan said. “Each of my pieces are designed to engage viewers, inviting them to step into a world where history is recontextualized through the lens of current technology.”
About the artist
Yuan is currently a graduate administrative assistant for the ISU Graduate College, focusing on web design and development. He was previously the instructor of record for a digital media course and a graduate teaching assistant for visual culture courses in the College of Design.
Yuan is working concurrently on his master of fine arts in integrated visual arts and master of science in human computer interaction and will graduate from Iowa State in May.

Off Pink: Parsons Fine Arts 2015 MFA Thesis Exhibition (The Kitchen- NYC) Reviewed by Chloe Hyman
“Even though the show is a thesis exhibition, and therefore not necessarily a cohesively curated exhibit with a central theme, it still feels unified. Many of the artists focused on representing the flip side of progress; the perils of a sexist, celebrity-obsessed, western-centric world. The artwork shown in “Off Pink” reveals the darker layers of social norms and questions them, turning them inside out for viewers to see. And the viewers cringe, because what they are seeing has always been blatantly there, but they have never noticed.”
