Essay on Save Fuel

Fuel is one of the most essential commodities for everyday activities. We human beings are undoubtedly dependent on fuel for multiple purposes. Fuel when burned produces energy. Coal, wood, oil, petrol, or gas produce energy when heated, so we consider them as fuel. Fuel plays an indispensable role in our lives. But we are facing a huge fuel crisis at the moment. Fuel is not a man-made resource. It is a natural resource so we must use fuel very judiciously to save our environment.

Almost everything we use depends on fuel. Some common types of fuels are petrol, gas, diesel, aviation fuel which are used in cooking, automobiles, ships, airplanes, manufacturing, and processing, etc. It provides electricity for homes and buildings. Industrialization, machinery, and fast mode of transportation have become a way of life and they use a whole lot of oil and gas every day.

Despite its enormous benefits, non-renewable resources, fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas have been exploited sufficiently due to many reasons. Our environment is getting affected severely by harmful and toxic gasses due to the combustion of fuel. This is causing depletion of the ozone layer and global warming. The rising temperature of the earth has resulted in abnormal melting of polar ice caps, flooding of several coastal areas, and rising sea levels.

Apart from carbon dioxide, many other toxic gasses such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, arsenic, lead, and mercury emissions not only harm our environment but also cause serious health hazards such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lung cancer. A respiratory infection has become a common issue in children. Indeed it has become a threat to life on Earth.

The increase in usage of fossil fuels is depleting their presence within the earth. We should save fuel for a better environment and our future generation. Conserving energy should be a part of the daily routine of an individual. Every small effort by each individual can make a big difference. To meet our growing needs, we should abandon the traditional methods of using this energy and start using renewable resources. This will not only create a better environment but also be available for our future generations. Many organizations around the world are making significant efforts to conserve fuel. They are trying to use renewable energy from sources that will never deplete including solar power, wind power, geothermal power, hydropower, and thermal energy. International seminars are being held to reduce the carbon imprint, by making developed and developing nations agree to reduce pollution, emanating from the factories.

At the individual level, you should decrease the consumption of fuel in vehicles. For short distances, you can either walk or use cycles. Do car-pooling as much as possible. Periodical maintenance of cars is necessary. Get the air filters of the cars clean from time to time because it reduces the consumption of petrol. At home and commercial establishments use Led bulbs and tube lights. Use the air conditioner in moderation and always at a low setting to save energy. Switch off the air conditioner, lights and fans when not being used. Use electrical appliances for cooking and reheating food. Keep your cooking vessels covered while cooking. In addition, you can save electricity by using good quality wire. You should attach solar panels in offices and streetlights should be intelligent lights. They should turn off automatically in the daylight.

What are Fuels?

The substance which is burned to generate heat energy is called Fuels. In easy words- A substance that can burn in the air is called a combustible substance. Example. Coal, LPG, Kerosene, Diesel, Petrol are fueled.

Types of Fuels

Energy can change its form from one type to another. This happens because energy cannot be created or it can neither be destroyed. Thus, we cannot produce energy to do certain work. Therefore, we use certain substances which help us transform one form of energy into another form.

For example, when we burn the paper with a matchstick, light is produced by the flame. This shows that energy is not created by matchstick only heat present in the match stick resulted in light energy on striking. Thus, we always need a certain substance to convert one form of energy into another form to complete various tasks.

Fuels also produce energy on healing or burnt. These substances which produce energy are called fuels.

Such Materials can Further be Classified into:

Renewable Source of Energy: inexhaustible one. Example: Solar energy.

Non-Renewable Source of Energy: exhaustible one. Example: Fossil Fuels.

Now, the energy produced by burning paper is not sufficient to run cars but the energy produced by burning petrol is enough to do so. Thus, each fuel releases its own set of energy i.e. all of them do not release the same amount of energy.  The energy produced by the combustion of one kg of fuel is known as its calorific value.

Thus, we can differentiate different fuels based on their calorific value for their efficient usage. Furthermore, each of them has a different cost concerning another. Some are cheaper while others are more expensive.

Different Types of Fuels

Fuels are denoted  into two factors:

1. Based on their Fuels State:

Solid Fuels

Liquid Fuels

Gaseous Fuels

2. Based on Their Occurrence:

Natural Fuels

Artificial Fuels

Examples of Fuels

Natural Fuels and Artificial Fuels

Tanbark, Bagasse, Straw, Charcoal

Oils from the distillation of petroleum, Coal Tar, Shale-Oil, Alcohol, etc.

Natural Gas

Producer Gas

Blast Furnace Gas,

1. What are liquid fuels? What are the pros and cons of liquid fuels?

Most liquid fuels are derived from the fossilized remains of dead plants and animals by exposure to heat and pressure in the Earth’s crust. The fumes of the liquid fuel are flammable instead of liquid.

Advantages:

Higher calorific value per unit mass.

Burn without ash, clinkers, etc.

Controlling the combustion is easier.

Transportation is easier through pipes and stored indefinitely without loss.

Loss of energy is comparatively lower.

Require less furnace space for combustion.

Disadvantages:

The costs of liquid fuel are much higher compared to solid fuel.

Storage methods are costlier.

Greater risk of fire hazards.

Special burning equipment is not required for more efficient combustion.

2. What is nuclear fuel?

Any material consumed to give out nuclear energy is nuclear fuel. any material can be made to give out nuclear energy. But looking at its practicality and feasibility, we pick materials that do not require extreme constraints to release nuclear energy.

Most nuclear fuels contain heavy fissile elements that are capable of nuclear fission. When these fuels are struck by neutrons, they are in turn capable of emitting neutrons when they break apart.

Some common examples of nuclear fuel are uranium-235 (235U) and plutonium-239 (239Pu).

3. What are the properties of ideal fuels?

Some properties of ideal fuel are:

An ideal fuel is readily available.

An ideal fuel is cheap.

An ideal fuel burns easily in the air at a moderate rate.

It releases a large amount of energy.

It should not leave behind any undesirable substances which can be harmful to us.

It should not affect the environment adversely.

4. What are fossil fuels and how are they obtained?

Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel oil, or natural gas, formed from the remains of dead plants and animals.

Not all Fossil fuels are obtained from animals or plants but they can be derived naturally also. They are also called as mineral fuels. These fuels are used in various sectors like industries, in gas based plants or to generate heat from wood or coal.

Fossil fuels are basically those fuels which are derived from fossils or remains of dead plants and animals which are buried inside the earth's crust for many years. These fuels can be used in the form of raw oil, petrol or natural gas. The burning of fossil fuels by humans is the largest source of emissions of carbon dioxide, which is one of the greenhouse gasses that allows radiative forcing and contributes to global warming.

5. Can we survive without fuels? What steps should be taken to preserve them?

It's very difficult to survive without fuels. Fuels are a great source of energy to survive on the Earth. Fuels are depleting in nature because of their excessive use. So we as human beings should take some steps to preserve fuels. We should use renewable sources of energy that are not exhaustible. Fuel should be used wisely and avoid misuse. Hence have to preserve the Fuels not only for us but also for future generations.

Long Essay on Save Fuel in English

Here, I’m presenting a long essay on Save Fuel. It will be helpful for students of classes 1 to 8 to know the importance of fuels in our life.

1200 Words Essay : Save Fuel for Better Environment

Introduction

Fuel is a substance that can be burnt to produce some type of energy. The first fuel used by humans was wood. The energy generated by burning these fuels helps to carry out various work. Earlier, woods are burnt for cooking purposes, coal was used to run trains and other locomotives, carry out industrial processes, glow street lights, generate electricity, etc.

Fuels can be fossil fuels or biofuels. Fossil fuels are formed from the dead remains of plants and animals. They take millions of years in their formation. And hence they are considered non-renewable resources. Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are some examples of fossil fuels. However, fossil fuels produce a large amount of carbon during combustion which is harmful to our environment. Carbon is the major contributor to the greenhouse effect and global warming.

On the other hand, biofuels are the fuels generated from plant and animal wastes. They are environmentally friendly. We should focus to shift our usage of non-renewable resources to biofuels.

Types Of Fuel

Fuels can be present in different forms. According to their state of presence, they are categorized as solid fuel, liquid fuel, and fuel gas.

  • Solid Fuel: The type of fuel which is present in solid form and can produce energy through combustion. It means solid fuels can be burnt to produce energy. Some common examples of solid fuels are dunk, wood, charcoal, etc. Solid fuels are mainly used for household activities like cooking.
  • Liquid Fuel: Fuels are also present in the liquid form known as liquid fuel. Most of the liquid fuels are fossil fuels. Some liquid fuels are kerosene, diesel, petroleum, etc. They usually generate kinetic energy. These types of fuels are easy to use and transport.
  • Fuel Gas: The fuels that are present in gaseous form are termed as Fuel gas. Natural gas is one of the most common fuel gases used today. The fuel gas mostly contains propane, methane, carbon monoxide, etc.

Fuel Consumption

The transportation field is responsible for the highest fuel consumption. Today everyone has vehicles in their house.

Nowadays, people do not prefer walking or riding a bicycle. They feel it as a sign of inferiority. Everyone wants to show off their luxurious life. They believe that having a luxurious and expensive car at their doorstep is one of the signs of a good life. But they forget about the harmful effects of unnecessarily wasting fuels.

According to a survey, about 15 million metric tons of fossil fuel is consumed every year.

Fuel Conservation Campaign

In India, under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, an organization PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) was established in 1978. It is responsible for generating awareness among people regarding saving fuel.

The PCRA conducted a month-long save fuel campaign by the name ‘SAKSHAM’ on 16 Jan 2020. The campaign SAKSHAM stands for Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotsava. The main aim of this campaign was to encourage save fuel techniques.

This program was supported on a large scale by popular gas distribution companies like GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited), BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited), HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited), IOC (Indian Oil Corporation), etc.

The Consequence Of Fuel Loss/ Why Should We Save Fuel

We are living at present, and we don’t bother about the future. Everybody talks to save fuel, save energy but in reality, nobody takes a single step towards saving the future. People organize rallies on vehicles which is directly wasting fuel, but the irony is that they do so just to encourage the public to save fuels. The selfishness of humans will cost them an amount that will be very difficult to repay.

One of the main reasons behind saving fuels is that many resources are non-renewable and we are fully dependent on them for our survival. People are using them as if they are unlimited. Therefore, measures should be taken to control the usage of resources that are limited on the Earth.

However, apart from ending soon the burning of various fuels especially fossil fuels produce harmful gases like carbon monoxide and other greenhouse gases. They are directly responsible for increasing the Earth’s temperature. If not taken seriously, the effect of global warming is not far away. We all are well aware of the difficulties we could face due to global warming. These harmful gases will be responsible for acidifying the oceans. The aquatic species will also be harmed.  It could raise various respiratory issues in humans.

Therefore, to save the environment and to save our lives, it is very important to try every possible step to save fuel.

How To Save Fuel/ Strategies To Save Fuel

Most of the fuel is consumed by vehicles. Today at outside, we can see vehicles more than people. Therefore, we should take some preventive steps to control the fuel efficiency in vehicles. Some of them are mentioned below:

  • Quality Product In Cars: One should prefer quality products (spare parts) for vehicles like cars. Quality products will reduce the unnecessary requirement of fuel.
  • Promote Carpooling: Carpooling refers to sharing a car when going to the same route. It is a good idea which will save fuel as well as money.
  • Limit The Usage Of Air Conditioners: In cars, air conditioners also consume fuel. Therefore, using it unnecessarily is the wastage of fuel. You can limit the use of air conditioners by opening the window wherever possible.
  • Off When Idle: One should always off the vehicle when not in use. For example, during the traffic. You can save at least a few drops of fuel by doing this.
  • Don’t Overload: Overloading of the vehicles decrease their mileage. Therefore, try to keep your vehicle as light as possible.
  • Clean Air Filters: Proper maintenance of your vehicle is very important for your safety as well as helps in saving fuel. Cleaning air filters will also be a good and helpful step.

Save Fuel At Home

Another area which is responsible for wasting fuel is our home. We used to waste a huge amount of fuel in our day-to-day life either directly or indirectly. Saving fuel is in our hands, therefore proper steps should be taken at an individual level to reduce its wastage. We can follow the below given points to save fuel.

  • Prefer Bicycle And Walking: One should always prefer a bicycle over other fuel-efficient vehicles. However, short distances should be covered through walking. Walking and riding bicycles are environmentally friendly and also friendly to our health.
  • Save Electricity: We can save electricity in many ways. Always switch off the lights, fans, and other electric appliances when not in use. These will not only save electricity but will also save your electric bill. Replacing bulbs and tube lights with modern less power-consuming LEDs will be a smarter step.
  • In The Kitchen: In the kitchen, one should use a small container while cooking because a large container takes time to heat. Always keep the container close, it will help to consume less energy. Using a solar cooker is the best way to save energy.
  • Opting For Public Transport: Instead of using personal vehicles, people should opt for public transport. It will help many people can travel by wasting less fuel.

The next generation also has the right to enjoy the things which are gifted by the nature. The way we are using these limited resources today, surely the future generation will suffer a great loss. Saving fuel and other natural resources from today will help us to constitute a better future.

We all have heard about sustainable resources; it means using the resources in such a way that they can be saved for the future. Therefore, using resources sustainably will be a good option to save resources and save the environment.

I hope the above given essay on Save Fuel will be helpful for you to understand this topic easily.

500 + Words Essay on Save Fuel for Better Environment in English

500 + words essay on save fuel for better environment.

In this post, we shall discuss an essay on Save Fuel for Better Environment for students and children. Let us begin:

Fuel is a naturally occurring substance that when subjected to chemical or nuclear reactions generates useful energy. When coal, wood, oil, petrol, or natural gas are burned, they provide energy, and hence are classified as fuel. However, because fuel is not man-made and exists naturally, its prudent usage is far more critical not only for today’s generation but also for future generations. We require fuel not just to power our automobiles, but also to power our lives and a more sustainable world.

Our environment is impacted by the vehicle industry’s fuel burning. Autos run on petrol or diesel, and the automobiles burn the fuels to operate. The emitted smoke or burned fuels contribute to the depletion of the earth’s ozone layer. Due to the loss of the ozone layer, the greenhouse effect occurs, heating and scorching the earth from within. All of these factors have a negative impact on our health. At the same time, it is detrimental to the environment, as the more petrol we consume, the more emissions we produce. Climate change, the world health organisation reports, has an effect on the social and environmental determinants of health, including clean air, safe drinking water, food security, and shelter. Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is anticipated to result in an additional 2,50,000 deaths each year due to heat stress, starvation, and other factors.

Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and volatile organic compounds emissions from vehicle exhausts contribute significantly to air pollution, which in turn contributes to asthma, immune system deterioration, and other respiratory disorders in humans. Additionally, these emissions contribute to global warming and contribute to floods, droughts, and unpredictable rainfall.

Today, we utilise all of the environment’s resources to improve our lives. However, as a result of overuse, it is becoming threatened. We must preserve sustainability in order to maximise its use. Sustainability is defined as “the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations” However, we have not done so and have made extensive use of it, and the day will come when we will likewise be unable to obtain it. Excessive reliance on fossil fuels also has a negative impact on the environment and poses a health risk.

We are already in the midst of a massive energy crisis, and while it is true that development is necessary, why not make it sustainable? Utilization of electric vehicles and renewable energy sources such as wind, water, and sun. These renewable resources are pollution-free and contribute to the preservation of our environment’s quality.

As a result, we must conserve fuel for future generations while avoiding greater environmental harm in the present. Preventing environmental degradation will inevitably improve human health and restore ecosystem balance.

The endeavour to save and maintain these fossil fuels is referred to as fuel conservation. We can use alternate energy sources to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Alternative energy sources ensure sustainable development and, as a result, create the way for us to leave behind the limited and non-renewable sources of weaponry for future generations.

It is high time for humanity to transition away from fossil fuels and use alternative sources of energy. It is not easy to have a significant impact on our health and environment. However, if we are truly driven and want to change our lifestyles in order to establish positive habits and contribute to reversing unfavourable trends toward the environment and conserving fuel deposits, this is a must. Therefore, conserving fuel for the future is a pressing need.

There are numerous strategies to conserve fuel on a personal level. Several examples include the following:-

1) When you leave a room, always turn off fans and lights.

2) Use air conditioning sparingly.

3) Avoid leaving any doors or windows open while the air conditioner is running.

4) Instead of taking the escalator or elevator to the upper floors, take the steps.

5) Rather than purchasing specific commodities, carpool to the office or school.

6) At home or at the office, use energy-efficient lighting and fans.

7) As quickly as feasible, repair any leaks or cracks in the electrical wiring.

8) Solar energy panel installation in offices and public lighting

9) Intelligent lighting for usage in street lights that automatically switch off in the morning.

10) Rather than driving, walk or cycle to neighbouring locations.

11) Reduce your vehicle’s speed and adhere to the speed limit while driving, as increased speed increases fuel consumption, reducing fuel economy. Avoid using the clutch excessively or unnecessarily, as this may result in increased fuel consumption. While driving through the city, turn off the air conditioner.

12) It is also necessary to maintain our car properly. After a given mileage, clean the engine oil, as unclean engine oils can cause internal engine friction, resulting in fuel wastage.

13) At home, you can also conserve cooking and heating fuels. When not in use, disconnect all electrical appliances. Utilize high-quality electrical cables to not only conserve energy but also to help you save money on your electric bill.

Clean Fuel Better Life

Clean Fuel Better Life

Fuels are the oxygen of life as without them we are unable to survive on this planet. The electrical energy we use in our daily life, LPG used to prepare food, petrol used to drive a car etc., all are possible with the help of fuels. Therefore, we can see how fuel plays a crucial role in our daily lives, however, we have started exploiting its use and is posing great harm to the environment.

The idea is to save fuel and make the environment healthy and safe for survival. This means if we will save fuel, the pollution will decrease automatically and this will ultimately lead to a better environment.

Fuels such as petrol, natural gas, crude oil, coal are some of the non-renewable sources of energy which take a lot of time to regenerate. Now due to the over-exploitation of non-renewable resources, the demand for these fuels is high whereas the reserves are less which is a great concern for the environment. These fuels are depleting fast and it’s high time to handle this situation to save the environment.

There are some steps that must be taken to save the fuel such as using bicycles instead of cars and bikes, switching off appliances when not in use, covering pans while cooking so that food can be cooked fast and less LPG is used, using Led lights instead of incandescent ones, using alternative sources of energy like solar energy or wind energy, reusing and recycling the items and much more.

All these things will directly impact the environment as less fuel is burned which means less pollution is generated which ultimately saves the environment and makes it a better place to survive. People and government should make combined efforts to save fuel as well as the environment.

Save Fuel for better Environment and Health Essay for Children

Fuels are the sources which run the world today. Think of your routine from morning. You wake up, glance down in your phone- phone runs on electrical energy, to walk in to have breakfast- food is made on oven using LPG, you set out for work in your car or bus- all vehicles run on fossil fuels, at work you turn on fans, air conditioners, computers- all run on fuels by burning down fuels.

Hence we can clearly see we don’t run the fuels, but fuels run us. But what are “fuels”?

Fuels are those energy sources which the help of which various devices of daily use can be run, by using them in the same form or by converting one form of energy into another. Fuels can be categorized in two ways:-

  • Renewable energy- fuels that can be replenished after using.
  • Non- renewable energy- fuels that cannot be replenished after using.

So far the use of the second category of fuels is more than the first category. And this the major concern of the environment activists of today

Table of Contents

Non- renewable energy

Fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, crude oil, diesel, LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) form the non renewable energy sources. They had been formed million of years ago when plants and animals and other vegetative matter got suppressed under tremendous pressure and heat and hence some of them fossilized and some turned to fossil fuels.

Today those are the fuels that run the world. Humans are heavily dependent on these fuels to fulfill all his Knick knacks. And this has endangered the reserves of these fuels. The demand is more than what the earth has. Hence the reserves are depleting fast and a time may come when there will be nothing left for the future generations.

Not only this fossil fuels also leave behind a huge number of waste products after use. For example- coal leaves behind ash when burned for producing electricity, petrol and diesel leave behind harmful gaseous smoke when used in cars and it is released directly into atmosphere. Even nuclear power plants emit very dangerous radioactive wastes that have to be stored in pits deep below the ground otherwise it might mess up the human DNA due to radioactivity.

Only there are two sources which do not emit any harmful waste and they are LPG and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). These two fuels are now widely used in gas cylinders for cooking purposes and in autorickshaw’s. They are by products of crude oil. But there is a limitation. There reserves are very limited. Their availability is even lesser than petrol reserves hence they are not much dependable sources.

If we do not cut down our demands now a time may come when there will be no fuel left at all for us to use. What would we do then? Is this what we are gifting our future generations? An energy-less earth! What is the benefit of so much technological advancement then?

Renewable Energy Sources

Renewable energy sources are those sources which will never finish no matter how much you use it during your lifetime. Such sources consist of wind energy, hydral energy, solar energy. Sun is the greatest source of all energies.

These sources are omnipresent. They can be used to generate power. For example – solar panel use the energy of the sun to produce heat and then this heat sorted can be used to charge up cells which in turn give electrical energy, windmills use the energy of the wind: its velocity to generate electrical power.

Similarly hydro power plants use the kinetic energy of falling water to run turbines to generate power. Not only this certain manufacturer is now making ‘bio-cars’ which run on fuel made biologically by the oil of certain vegetable and plants.

Another replacement of the LPG gas for cooking is the gobar gas. It is a very clever installment. It uses the methane gas produced by domestic human excreta that is locked in chambers. Once formed the gas is channeled to the ovens and this serves as the cooking gas in place of LPG.

“where there is will, there is way”. We can develop newer energy -efficient methods if we want to. These methods don’t produce any harmful chemicals or residue and hence do not affect neither the health nor the environment. No radioactive waste to deal with, no harmful chemicals, to need to worry about renewal, no harm to the environment.

Scientists are developing better  gadgets  everyday which can use these resources because at the present rate of depletion, the extinction of fossil fuels is inevitable. Hence precaution is always better than cure. But before that we can also do something about it individually.

Ways to save fuel

There can be many ways to save fuel starting from the individual level. To enumerate a few are:-

  • Always switch off fans and lights while leaving a room.
  • Do not use air conditioners unless needed. Do not leave any door or window open while ac is on.
  • Take steps to upper floors rather than using escalator or an elevator
  • Use carpool to office or school rather than individual commodity.
  • Use energy efficient lights and fans at home or in office
  • Fix any leaks or cracks in electrical wiring as soon as possible.
  • Installation of solar energy panels in offices and street lighting. Intelligent lighting to be used in street lights that turn off automatically with daylight.
  • Walk or cycle to the nearby places instead of taking car.

This are the few simple ways by which one can save energy. Every little effort from an individual level can add up to a great change.

“drops of water can fill the ocean”.

Save fuel for better environment and health essay in 700 words

More from this Exercise

Fuel is very important for everyday activities. Day-by-day our fuel deposits are depreciating. We need to save fuel to have a better environment around us. The real danger in consuming fuel thoughtlessly is that it is drying up the earth’s resources. Fossil fuels like coal and oil and gas are non-renewable resources. Increasing usage is depleting their presence within the earth. To save our environment we need to save fuel.In todays world fuels are undoubtedly ruling our world.  Our basic needs are  Roti Kapada and Makaan.  And we need fuel to cook to manufacture fabric to produce building material and to build our sweet homes.  So willingly or unwillingly we are dependent on fuels to live.We use fossil fuels such as coal wood natural gas Petroleum and its derivatives like petrol diesel LPG kerosene etc.  Since the days of Industrial revolution there has been a rapid growth and development in the entire globe.  The machines in industries transport vehicles and domestic appliances all use fossil fuels.  Even though the world adopted electricity as a source of energy we still need fossil fuels to produce electricity.Environment is an essential part of our life.  It includes surrounding water air trees wildlife birds minerals etc.  Quality of our life depends on the quality of our environment.  Our health is dependent both on ourselves and our environment.  We need a clean environment to live healthy.Last four decades have seen tremendous growth in electric and electronic gadgets and appliances causing the demand for energy to go skyrocketing.  Combustion of fossil fuels results in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that have negative impact on environment and health.  Overuse of fuels have initiated a breakdown of our ecosystem balance. As a consequence air we breathe is polluted with CO2 soot particles and harmful gases.  A large number of people suffer from respiratory diseases.  The local temperatures have risen.  Climatic balance is broken.  Global warming is causing icebergs at the Poles and ice caps on mountain peaks to melt at a faster rate.Greenhouse gases fluorocarbons are depleting the Ozone layer faster than ever before. Ozone layer shields us from harmful Ultraviolet radiation of the Sun.  The holes in Ozone layer mean sunburns and skin cancer from exposure to UV rays. Many species of birds and oceanic creatures are getting extinct.  Animals too suffer from pollution.  The balance in Biodiversity has become an issue.  Imbalance in food-chain results in Earths ecosystem imbalance. To live we eat food drink water and breathe air.  If they are contaminated then certainly our health is affected.  Comparing in our minds strolling happily on a path in a village and along a busy city road.  Certainly we would want a peaceful and clean environment for a morning walk to the park nearby.Fuel and energy saved is as good as produced.  Fuel saved is more than driving away diseases and buying health.  There are many ways to save fuel.  We could use shared or public transport like trams and metros.  We switch off engines while waiting for traffic signals.  We take an exercising walk to nearby places.  We use bicycle not just as a sport but as a transport.  We use more efficient fuels.  We switch off gadgets and appliances when not in use.  We use green vehicles and latest technology based machines.  Also drive vehicles uniformly at recommended speeds and maintain properly to run at high mileage. We need to replace obsolete technologies with the latest. Simply we could replace the domestic light bulbs by the efficient LED bulbs.  Lets use more efficient LCD and LED computer monitors and TVs in place of the bulky old ones.  Let us use more efficient and silent CNG based engines rather than the traditional noisy diesel engines.  Use of geothermal heat and biomass energies efficiently and cheaply serve our needs locally in the vicinity.  Use of solar boats could reduce pollution of water bodies. In rural areas people still use kerosene wood and tree leaves for domestic cooking and heating.  We need to upgrade their lifestyle so that fuel is saved and environment is saved.Wastage of food water or other materials happens inadvertently.  Reducing wastage indirectly saves fuel required to produce more food and other products.  Induction stoves save on energy needed to cook.  Imagine 10% savings in a billion houses in the world.Lets useless of traditional fuels and use more of clean renewable fuels like solar wind tidal geothermal biomass Nuclear hydro biofuel and so on.  Then we meet our demands as well as save our environment.  We stay healthier too.  This is what ultimately we want and the mankind needs.  Instead of polluting our location and then searching for a better place to live in we all live healthier and jollier by saving fuel.

Essay on Save Fuel for Better Environment English – Essay on fuel saving 300 words

A substance that produces social or nuclear energy when it comes in contact with other substances is called fuel. This energy is used in one form and then it is again converted into mechanical energy and it is used in different ways. Many tasks are possible with the help of different fuels such as driving vehicles, operating machinery, cooking, etc.

Chemical fuels are broadly divided into three categories – solid fuels, gaseous fuels, and liquid fuels. Solid fuel includes wood, cow dung, charcoal, etc. Liquid engines contain petroleum which is used to make different types of liquid fuels like diesel, kerosene, etc. Natural gas comes under the category of gaseous fuel. These are synthesized and converted into CNG, methane, and coal gas for various purposes.

On the other hand, nuclear fuel is divided into two categories, fission, and fusion. Each of these has its own unique utility. We use most of these to carry out our day-to-day work. The fuel is rapidly depleting from the surface of the earth. The reason for this is that the demand for these is increasing rapidly while their supply is limited. We should use these substances wisely so that they do not run out.

Tenke Fungurume Mine, one of the largest copper and cobalt mines in the world, is owned by Chinese company CMOC, in southeastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Minerals like cobalt are important components of electric vehicle batteries, but mines that produce them can hurt the environment and people nearby.

Earlier this year, NPR's podcast The Sunday Story reached out for listener questions about electric vehicles. You can hear the resulting podcast here . We're also taking some of the most-asked questions and answering them here on NPR.org.

Electric vehicles are sometimes called "zero-emission vehicles." But the batteries that go into them are not zero-emission at all. In fact, making those batteries takes a lot of (mostly-not-clean) energy and hurts the environment in other ways , a fact that's become common knowledge after widespread media coverage .

Does that environmental damage cancel out the green benefits of giving up gasoline? Or, as Jennifer Sousie, who owns a Nissan Leaf, put it: "Does the manufacturing and ultimate disposal of the batteries completely negate all the good that the no-emission aspect of my car does?"

The answer is no. Here's why.

Batteries do more harm upfront – then less year after year

With all that's required to mine and process minerals — from giant diesel trucks to fossil-fuel-powered refineries — EV battery production has a significant carbon footprint . As a result, building an electric vehicle does more damage to the climate than building a gas car does.

But the gas car starts to catch up as soon as it goes its first mile.

If you look at the climate impact of building and using a vehicle – something called a "lifecycle analysis" – study after study has found a clear benefit to EVs. The size of the benefit varies – by vehicle, the source of the electricity it runs on, and a host of other factors – but the overall trend is obvious.

"The results were clearer than we thought, actually," says Georg Bieker, with the International Council on Clean Transportation, who authored one of those reports. (This is the group that busted Volkswagen for cheating on its emissions tests. Holding industries accountable for whether they're actually reducing emissions is the ICCT's whole thing. ).

Building a battery is an environmental cost that's paid once. Burning gasoline is a cost that's paid again, and again, and again.

Gasoline's environmental cost is ongoing

Several listeners asked NPR about the negative impacts of mines, beyond carbon emissions. There are several: They disrupt habitats. They pollute with runoff or other waste. And people can suffer in other ways: worker poisonings , child labor , indigenous communities' rights violated and more.

Thea Riofrancos is a political scientist who has sounded the alarm about these impacts. She's glad people are asking these questions – which she'd like to see them do for more than just EVs. "The fact that mined products are in basically everything we use should give us pause," she says.

And, she says, anybody weighing an EV versus a gas-powered car needs to think just as carefully about the other side of the equation: the cost of relying on fossil fuels.

The california oil pipeline spill could endanger sea life for years, experts say.

"A traditional car needs mining every day, needs mining every time it's used. It needs the whole extraction complex of fossil fuels in order to power it," she said.

The carbon pollution from burning gasoline and diesel in vehicles is the top contributor to climate change in the U.S . And there are other costs: Oil spills; funding for corrupt oil-rich regimes; the illnesses and preventable deaths caused by pollution from fossil fuels.

Add it up, she says, and if you're concerned about all the harms from mining, you'll still want to choose an EV over a comparable gas car.

New technology and better practices can reduce EVs' footprint

There are several ways that manufacturing EVs could become cleaner.

Public pressure and a shift toward mining in regions with stronger regulations, like the U.S. instead of China, could reduce the harms done in mines. New technology, like a mining method called "direct lithium extraction," could produce minerals with much smaller footprints.

Batteries are also changing. A group called Lead the Charge is evaluating automakers on their efforts to clean up supply chains and source materials ethically; there's a wide range of ratings.

Right now, if you want to avoid cobalt in your battery because of the horrific mining conditions, you could seek out an LFP battery, which is made without cobalt – they're used in vehicles like the Tesla Model 3 and Ford Mach-E. In the future, batteries based on sodium might be an alternative to lithium.

And last but not least, battery minerals can be recycled . This won't meaningfully reduce the need for mining until huge numbers of EVs on the road have reached the end of their lifespan. But eventually, the same molecules of lithium and nickel could be used for many generations of cars – something that can't be said for fossil fuels. (Recycling batteries is also important because it addresses environmental concerns about the risks of throwing them out.)

What's best for the planet? Smaller batteries, fewer vehicles

Meanwhile, for people who want to minimize their impact on the environment today, Riofrancos has some advice.

First, ask whether you need a car at all. Riofrancos is a big advocate for bikes and public transit, which have much smaller footprints than an EV. But she also knows first-hand that many parts of the U.S. are not designed for car-free living – after years as a bike commuter, she now lives in Providence, Rhode Island, where that doesn't work. (She tried.)

She and her husband recently replaced their vehicle. "I was not going to buy another car that uses gasoline, knowing what I know about the climate," she says. "But I also have a lot of question marks about EVs, knowing what I know about EV supply chains."

So after careful consideration, she bought an EV. But not just any EV. A used Chevy Bolt, which is a small EV – smaller batteries require less mining. And since it was used, it was both more affordable and already had more than made up for the impacts of its manufacturing through the gasoline it had saved.

U.S. cut climate pollution in 2023, but not fast enough to limit global warming

Listeners worried about battery mining impacts are asking the right questions, Riofrancos says. And the answers are more complicated than "yes" or "no" to EVs – they might include what kind of EV, what size and type of battery, and whether to buy a car at all.

"You know, there's no perfect world out there, but there is better and worse and everything in between," Riofrancos says.
