Junior Ring Ceremony Ideas

...

Junior ring ceremonies mark the transition of underclassmen into upperclassmen. Juniors are presented with their school rings, which symbolize their becoming the future senior class and the potential leaders of their school. Because the event holds more significance than the mere presentation of jewelry, consider one of the many ways to personalize and commemorate the occasion.

Student Expressions

Video of the Day

...

Juniors likely hold varying opinions on what being a senior means to them. Teachers can have each participant fill out a card describing the significance of this new stage and the ways in which they plan to make a positive change among the student body. At the ceremony, several cards can be randomly drawn from a basket or box and read aloud to the audience. Alternatively, the participants can share their contributions themselves after receiving their rings.

Meal and Formal Dance

...

Instead of a ring ceremony culminating with a reception, you can host the ceremony in the form of a tea, brunch or dinner. The school can sponsor meals and nonalcoholic punch or the students can be asked to contribute funds or a dish to the event. This can be followed by a formal ring dance, exclusively for the junior and senior classes. The junior class can choose a theme for the dance and decorate the hall accordingly.

Candelight Ceremony

...

Candles are symbols of triumph and light. Juniors can each be given a candle at the end of a ceremony and present it to their parents as a show of gratitude for their support during their underclassmen years. Instead of the rings being presented by faculty members or the featured speaker, the parents can present the rings to their children in exchange for the candles. For an even more dramatic effect, it can be a nighttime, outdoor event.

Religious Services

...

For faith-based high schools, an alternative to customary ring ceremonies is to host a religious service. The principal should invite a religious leader to share a message with the students, or allow a student committee to plan and conduct the service. Some features include a reading from a religious text, praise songs, religious dances and a prayer for the junior and graduating classes. The rings can also be blessed by a religious leader before they are presented to the students.

The Class Ring Ceremony

Ring ceremonies typically take place in the fall of the school year. For the Juniors, they are celebrating their newly-gained status as upperclassmen, and for the Seniors, they are celebrating their final year in high school .

Class Ring Ceremony

Traditionally it is just the students who participate in the ceremony, but for parents who also have a class ring from the same school, many times they are asked to wear their class rings to the ceremony.

Class Ring Ceremony

Ring ceremonies can vary from one school to the next but a classic ceremony includes inspirational speeches from staff/teachers and then the distribution of the rings .

Class Ring Ceremony

Each student’s name is called out and then that student goes up onto the stage to accept their ring. It is traditionally the teachers at the school who give the rings to the students. A student may request that a particular teacher give him or her their ring. The ring is in a closed box and the box stays closed as the student returns to their seat.

This continues until all the students have received their rings and are once again back in their seats. At this point all the students are asked to stand and then, all at once, they are asked to open their boxes and reveal their rings.

If the school is parochial, sometimes a blessing is bestowed upon the rings. Otherwise, at this point the celebration is complete and a short gathering of students, and parents, occurs with refreshments and students sharing the look of their rings with each other.

Class of 2025’s Rings Shine at the Junior Ring Ceremony

Byline photo of Marina Astorga

From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Class of 2025 attended the annual Junior Ring Ceremony in the auditorium, for a night of Cavalier tradition and personalized pride. As they officially moved up to the ranks of upperclassmen, on March 5, Coral Gables Senior High’s junior students received their junior rings, a symbol of their path to graduation.

As the auditorium lobby’s doors opened to the parents and other attendees, Student Activities members handed them the evening’s programs and guided the crowds towards their respective seating. Once this process was done, the Class of 2025 flooded the lobby, dressed in semi formal attire, ready to attend the ceremony that would shine a light on their dedication to the Cavalier community.

“Leading the juniors during the ceremony and acting as the host for an event for my first time were definitely the biggest highlights of the night since I found immense pride in successfully helping make this night memorable for the Class of 2025,” junior Tiffany Beh said.

With the room’s seating full, Class of 2025 sponsor Mrs. Ayleen Monzon greeted attendees, thanked them for their presence and constant support and introduced the ceremony’s purpose. Gables’ Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps then took the stage to showcase the Presentation of Colors , an honorary celebration that marked the first show of honor during the evening.

“This ring means a lot to me because it’s been a family tradition of mine to get our junior rings. When my uncle came to this school, he got his ring and attended the ceremony and so did my cousin when she attended Gables only a few years ago. My mom and stepmom also got their rings and kept telling me that the ceremony is a key part of the high school experience and they insisted that I experience it as well,” junior Brianna Bustamante said.

Class of 2025 president Beh was welcome onto the stage to announce the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by junior class secretary Melissa Hernandez who sung “The Star Spangled Banner”. Beh then welcomed Gables’ principal Mr. Ullivari to the spotlight. He appreciated the junior’s commitment to the Gables family and expressed the importance of the ceremony.

“The ceremony impacted me and the importance of my ring because it demonstrated it’s more that just something cool to wear, it has a history and that history made the ring even more important as it is a way to continue inspiring us to study and eventually graduate,” junior Matthew Fuenmayor said.

Junior class marketing executive Caitlin Savage then detailed the tradition of unity and the significance of all the ring bearers placing their jewelry on at the same time, to mark their totality as the Class of 2025. Herff Jones Miami Photo representative David Anaya was brought up to the microphone to describe the longevity of the class ring tradition, thank students for allowing the company to produce their jewelry and take part in this moment of their high school careers.

“At the ceremony, I felt really nervous at first walking up to the stage, but then felt way better when I saw my family while posing for pictures. The ceremony not only made me but also my family members emotional because it meant that I was moving onto this next stage of my life. It put into reality that I am now an upperclassmen and will be leaving for college only next year,” junior Brianna Bustamante said.

Juniors were then escorted out of the auditorium as Mrs. Monzon called out the names of first few students who received their ring: the Class of 2025 board. Thanking their sponsor for her constant guidance , Beh and Class of 2025 treasurer Alejandra Alberti then welcomed juniors individually to the stage, calling their names to collect a white flower, a turning card and their class ring.

“I was motivated to buy a ring because my sister had already bought and it helps demonstrate how far we have come as juniors and […] it helps give us a special remembrance of high school,” junior Matthew Fuenmayor said.

Hernandez was welcomed back onstage to explain the unique process juniors were to follow as they placed their rings on for the first time. She instructed the Cavaliers to wear their piece so that when they held their hand out, the school name around the stone was facing the bearers.

“I choose a yellow gold, princess cut ring, and for the stone, I choose my birth stone, for April, which is a white sapphire. For the symbols, I got my name on one side of the ring with the logo of International Baccalaureate, ‘Class of 2025’ on the other side, and my initials engraved on the inside. I choose this ring because I believe it best summarizes a little part of my life here at Gables,” junior Brianna Bustamante said.

Then focusing the Class of 2025’s attention to their turning card, Hernandez asked them to participate in the time-honored tradition of turning their class ring. Each junior turned their ring 25 times towards their pinky finger, reserving the final turn, 26th turn, for a special someone, which was rotated in the opposite direction.

“They were not to just put the ring on, but the whole class [needed] to do it at the same time and they needed to turn their ring depending on the year they graduate. This is important because it seals the deal in a sense; once you’ve obtain your class ring you’ve reach a milestone,” junior Hernandez said.

With their rings on, Cavaliers locked the final turn with a kiss to ‘seal’ the process. Having already selected and purchased rings, varying in size and color, juniors modeled the jewelry that was encrusted with their high school’s name and would hold their future memories. Mrs. Monzon then made closing remarks, reminding juniors of their responsibility to uphold Gables pride and encouraged them to rejoice in their new status.

“I chose a thinner ring with my mother’s birthstone in it as I wanted something I would genuinely wear and have it be meaningful. The ring is a reminder that I am leaving high school soon and moving on with [what will be] the previous stage of my life,” junior Isabella Elyza Arias said.

With the transition to upperclassmen formally marked, juniors look forward to their road of becoming alumni and the many events they will enjoy on the way. As seniors next school year, students will reverse the ring so that their school will face the person looking at their hand, a testament to their Cavalier pride.

“I think it’s cool that a tangible object represents a sort of growth. It’s beautiful that you’re given something that you’ll be able to hold onto forever. To show your kids and wear with pride as you continue to surpass each milestone life has in store for you,” junior Hernandez said.

"As president of junior class, I am responsible for all activities for juniors, which have included Busch Gardens, New York’s out-of-state college tour and the ring ceremony. I love being part of the board because of the people I have gotten to work with over the past two years. They really make everything, from the little tasks to the big ones, worthwhile," junior Tiffany Beh said.

“We like to divide all of the tasks so no one feels like they have too much work or are doing too little. We organize both of the college trips and handle the basics: checklists for eligibility and fundraising. I like when the rest of my class tells me things and I report it back, to create a more student-run environment. It’s really important for all of us to get our classmates votes on the things we do,” junior Allison D’Alincourt said.

"[Since] the positions don’t have any specific jobs, we get told what we need to do and we delegate who will do what. Essentially, our job is to make our class’s high school experience memorable and worthwhile. I enjoy being a part of the Class of 2025 board because I know that I’m contributing. It’s very rewarding knowing that I, along side the other members, work very hard for our cohort," junior Melissa Hernandez said.

"My responsibilities as the treasurer for the junior class are similar to the rest of the board since we all work together...[On the board,] I can be part of the people who make our high school experience more memorable and I have found a group of amazing people and I have lived a lot of great experiences thanks to being part of it. I would say treat days are a big part of my contribution such as helping with ideas for the treats or choosing the theme for our decorations," junior Alejandra Alberti said.

"My responsibilities on board is to manage the class of 2025 Instagram and social media. I’m in charge of making the posts and keeping my class informed of all upcoming events and deadlines. Being a part of the board[...]gives me an opportunity to connect with more people, be more involved in school and to work closer with my fellow classmates," junior Caitlin Savage said.

Junior Ring Ceremony signifies academic and spiritual growth

Every Academy girl has one thing in common, her class ring. The crest on the background of onyx is the quickest way to notice an Academy graduate. Each year the junior class looks forward to the ceremony that signifies the presentation of these time-honored rings in the presence of their peers, family, and teachers. This event signifies a school-wide celebration of the academic and spiritual growth of all Academy students.

This year’s ring ceremony for the Class of 2012, held January 13, was no different in significance from the ring ceremonies that have preceded this treasured day.  On January 12, the day before the ceremony, the juniors assembled in the Blessed Mother Marie Rose Chapel for a special Mass and the blessing of their rings. The next morning at 9 a.m., in a procession led by the Sophomore Honor Guards, the juniors entered Brady Center North and sat facing their friends, teachers, and family. Assistant Principal Mr. Jack Mullarkey called each junior to the stage to receive her ring, presented by Principal Mrs. Camille Jowanna with the assistance of Junior Class Moderator Mrs. Betsy Suskauer.

After the ring presentation, the audience joined in singing the Alma Mater, after which the juniors made the traditional walk through the archway of roses held by students in the Sophomore Honor Guard.  After receiving her rose, each junior exited into the courtyard where she received congratulations from faculty, family and friends and shared a beautifully decorated cake.  The juniors enjoyed the privilege of having the rest of the day off to celebrate with their families and guests.

Although it is her first year participating in the ring ceremony, Mrs. Jowanna has attended many ring ceremonies at Tampa Catholic. “A ring ceremony is a special time for the girls, and I enjoyed standing on stage and meeting all of them.”  She added, “Tampa Catholic’s signing ceremony is different from TC’s because every year they have an evening ceremony that includes a mass.”

Mrs. Suskauer became the ceremony coordinator three years ago and has enjoyed the challenging job. Handling ring orders for eighty-three girls is difficult for one person to handle, but Mrs. Suskauer handles the stress by “staying organized and taking notes.”

Although the ceremony was picture-perfect, unknown to the audience, there were a few unplanned obstacles with seating. Thanks to quick thinking by sophomore teacher Mrs. Lori Kearney, the Sophomore Honor Guards were able to follow her precise instructions and form the arch without a glitch. Sophomore Class Moderator Mrs. Linda Nutter said, “The sophomores deserve a collective ‘pat on the back’ for their ability to follow precise directions quickly.”

The ring is not just a piece of jewelry for Academy girls. The ring is significant and reminds them of the hard work, religious maturation, and academic expectations experienced by all Academy graduates. The open book, lyre, and atom on the lower part of the crest symbolize academics, fine arts, and knowledge associated with Academy student life. The Cross surrounded by three lilies symbolizes the vocational calling of the Sisters of the Holy Names and their vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

Setting an example for their underclass women, the juniors will continue to uphold the significance of the ring. By doing this, the girls are the perfect example of Academy’s school’s motto “Esse Quam Videri” – “to be rather than to seem. “

Asking the Class of 2025 what they are looking forward to going into their senior year.

Put a (junior) ring on it!

Parents, staff, faculty, and friends gathered on April 7, 2021 to celebrate the Class of 2022 at their Junior Class Ring Ceremony. Held at Holy Trinity, more than 25 students and their families attended the event which celebrates the junior class as they step into the role of school leaders. A longstanding HT tradition, the Junior Class Ring Ceremony serves as a turning point for students as they enter their final year in high school and into adulthood.

Dr. Quincy Paden ‘95, Holy Trinity Principal welcomed students and guests with some words of encouragement. Br. James VanDyke, HT Social Studies teacher served as the guest speaker, offering a charge to the Class of 2022 to become fervent leaders and reminded them that the best is yet to come. After offering a blessing over the rings and other sentimental items students brought, parents were invited onstage to present rings to their student.

President Tim Bopp closed out the ceremony with congratulatory remarks and positive affirmations going forward. President Tim Bopp closed out the ceremony with congratulatory remarks and positive affirmations going forward. Unbeknownst to Dr. Paden, Mr. Bopp presented him with a replacement of his class ring, which was lost during his junior retreat in 1994.

This is an important milestone, a great marker of the distance our juniors have come since their first days here at Holy Trinity —when they were excited, and possibly terrified, freshmen, worried about fitting in and keeping up.

Class of 2022, we pray that God continues to bless you as you go forth in your journey – here at HT and in life.

History of Moscow Oblast

The territory of the Moscow region was inhabited more than 20 thousand years ago. In the first millennium AD, this land was inhabited mostly by the Finno-Ugric peoples (Meryane and Meshchera). In the 9th-10th centuries, the Slavs began active development of the region. The population was engaged in hunting, fisheries, agriculture, and cattle breeding.

In the middle of the 12th century, the territory of the present Moscow region became part of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality, the first towns were founded (Volokolamsk in 1135, Moscow in 1147, Zvenigorod in 1152, Dmitrov in 1154). In the first half of the 13th century, the Vladimir-Suzdal principality was conquered by the Mongols.

In the 14th-16th centuries, Moscow principality became the center of unification of Russian lands. The history of the Moscow region is inextricably linked to military events of the Time of Troubles - the siege of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery by the troops of False Dmitry II, the first and second militias.

More historical facts…

In 1708, by decree of Peter the Great, Moskovskaya gubernia (province) was established. It included most of the territory of present Moscow oblast. In 1712, St. Petersburg became the capital of the Russian Empire and the significance of the Moscow region as the country’s economic center began to decrease.

In 1812, the Battle of Borodino took place near Moscow. It was the biggest battle of the Russian-French War of 1812. In the second half of the 19th century, especially after the peasant reform of 1861, the Moscow province experienced economic growth. In 1851, the first railway connected Moscow and St. Petersburg; in 1862 - Nizhny Novgorod.

The population of the Moscow region increased significantly (in 1847 - 1.13 million people, in 1905 - 2.65 million). On the eve of the First World War, Moscow was a city with a population of more than one million people.

In November, 1917, the Soviet power was established in the region. In 1918, the country’s capital was moved from St. Petersburg to Moscow that contributed to economic recovery of the province. In the 1920s-1930s, a lot of churches located near Moscow were closed, a large number of cultural monuments were destroyed. On January 14, 1929, Moscow Oblast was formed.

In 1941-1942, one of the most important battles of the Second World War took place on the territory of the region - the Battle for Moscow. In the postwar years, the growth of economic potential of the region continued; several science cities were founded (Dubna, Troitsk, Pushchino, Chernogolovka).

In the 1990s, the economy of Moscow Oblast experienced a deep crisis. Since the 1990s, due to the motorization of the population and commuting, road traffic situation in the Moscow region significantly deteriorated. Traffic jams have become commonplace.

Moscow Oblast - Features

Moscow Oblast is located in the central part of the East European Plain, in the basin of the rivers of Volga, Oka, Klyazma, Moskva. The region stretches from north to south for 310 km, from west to east - 340 km. It was named after the city of Moscow, which however is not part of the region. Part of the administrative authorities of the region is located in Krasnogorsk.

On the territory of the Moscow region, there are 77 cities and towns, 19 of them have a population of more than 100 thousand people. The largest cities are Balashikha (518,300), Podolsk (309,600), Mytishchi (262,700), Khimky (256,300), Korolyov (225,300), Lubertsy (209,600), Krasnogorsk (174,900), Elektrostal (149,000), Odintsovo (138,900), Kolomna (136,800), Domodedovo (136,100).

The climate is temperate continental. Summers are warm, winters are moderately cold. The average temperature in January is minus 10 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 19 degrees Celsius.

One of the most important features of the local economy is its proximity to Moscow. Some of the cities (Odintsovo, Krasnogorsk, Mytishchi) have become in fact the “sleeping districts” of Moscow. The region is in second place in terms of industrial production among the regions of Russia (after Moscow).

The leading industries are food processing, engineering, chemical, metallurgy, construction. Moscow oblast has one of the largest in Russia scientific and technological complexes. Handicrafts are well developed (Gzhel ceramics, Zhostov trays, Fedoskino lacquered miniatures, toy-making).

Moscow railway hub is the largest in Russia (11 radial directions, 2,700 km of railways, the density of railways is the highest in Russia). There are two large international airports - Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo. Vnukovo airport is used for the flights within the country.
