10 Most Riveting Speeches In Video Games

These speeches heighten the gameplay experience as they sometimes motivate players to put in more effort during critical gaming moments.

Video games often blend fun with commentary. There are many games out there that have a character tell a riveting speech, one that makes the player think and ponder the reality of the person speaking the powerful words. Fictional, or not, the words spoken by characters can truly be both inspiring or upsetting.

There is a great deal of iconic video game characters that give speeches , either to the player, or their crew. Some are entirely compelling and make the player forget that they are holding a controller. What can make these speeches harder to listen to, is when a boss fight is brewing. So, which riveting speeches in video games can be considered iconic?

10 The Healthy Human Mind (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2)

As the penultimate mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 ’s campaign, “ Just Like Old Times ” features a grandiose speech from Captain John Price. As his ally, Soap, asks for Price’s input, he is met with silence, until Price begins to audibly philosophize on death.

Price’s speech is cold and somewhat morbid. It’s a great look into his mind and his goal. “ We will. Kill him .” That’s it, that is the mission. Price will forever be a soldier, and his speech to Soap teaches him a valuable lesson on doing whatever it takes to make sure true history survives.

9 More Powerful Than Any Weapon (Mass Effect 3)

As the climax in Mass Effect 3 ramps up, Commander Shepard performs their final speech to their Comrades . The Mass Effect games have held some great speeches, thanks to Commander Shepard’s charisma and intellect. Yet, there’s something poignant about their final speech.

Shepherd rallies their friends and comrades-in-arms, and the player can choose what Shepherd says to their friends. It makes the speaker feel that much more personal, and that much more emotional; knowing how close the player has become with their crew, before entering perhaps the final battle as Commander Shepard, and the lats look of their friends.

8 Dear Humanity (Halo 2)

The fourth campaign mission of Halo 2 features Master Chief on Old Mombasa, Earth, with his fellow Marine soldiers. The introduction cutscene of this mission, “ Outskirts ”, has the characters ponder on the mystery behind the message they received, which repeats “Regret, Regret” in a loop.

The intensely charismatic Sergeant Major Avery Junior Johnson wastes no time in deciding on what “ regret ” means. His speech is extremely short but gets the point across. He talks of how the aliens will regret coming to Earth. It’s funny, and Sergeant Johnson rallies his troops with one large “ oorah !”

7 Free To Follow Our Own Path (Assassin’s Creed 2)

A compelling speech, from one of gaming’s most iconic characters, and most iconic assassins . Assassin’s Creed 2 features Ezio Auditore giving a speech to the Italian people about the profound identity of individuals, the freedom of choice, and forging one’s path.

RELATED: Assassin's Creed: Games With The Best Cover Art, Ranked

Ezio proves with this speech just how wise and strong he is. It’s a beautiful speech and one that sums up Ezio’s character growth perfectly. From a rebellious youth to one of the bravest, and greatest leaders of the new Assassin order. There’s a reason why Ezio Auditore is so well remembered, even after the conclusion of his story.

6 There Is Light In The Darkness (Fallout: New Vegas)

Fallout is a franchise that is no stranger to the weird, the wonderful, and the compelling. Fallout: New Vegas provides fans of the Fallout franchise with a plethora of interesting characters. Characters that make the player debate their choices for a while.

One character is Joshua Graham, introduced in the Honest Hearts DLC. Toward the end of the DLC, Joshua offers a glimmer of hope, even after the horrific circumstance of his being and location . This is because Joshua has been burned to near death. Joshua speaks of religion and the importance of family. It’s a grand speech.

5 My Fellow Americans (Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus)

Those that chose the Wyatt timeline are given a riveting speech in the genre-defining franchise sequel, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus . At the end of the game, Wyatt provides those watching live television with a great speech. After the victory of the Nazis in an alternate timeline, Americans were left on their knees.

Wyatt gives warnings to the Nazi regime, as a hopeful song softly strums in the background. Wyatt’s passion can be felt through the television screen, and it’s entirely infectious, patriot, and in search of the liberty that belongs to a free country, and a free people.

4 I’m Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain)

As gunfire and explosions rage across Outer Haven, Big Boss takes one last look at himself in the mirror before heading off to the latest, and potentially last, confrontation, in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain . It’s here, that Big Boss remembers all those years ago, and discovers “ The Man Who Sold The World ”.

“Venom” Snake listens to a recording from Big Boss, who tells “Venom” who he is. “ I’m Big Boss, and you are too. ” Big Boss is so inspirational , and grand, that a man willingly changed his entire identity to reforge the laws of the world. It’s epic and perfectly wraps up the Metal Gear saga.

3 Vorkuta Burns (Call of Duty: Black Ops)

The second campaign mission in Call of Duty: Black Ops follows Alex Mason and Viktor Reznov starting an uprising to escape Vorkuta, the brutal Soviet Labor Camp in Northern Russia. As the men rally to a radio tower, Reznov delivers a powerful speech to help invigorate the men escaping, as it echoes across the labor camp.

His speech is nothing short of riveting, and it rallies even the harshest critics to Reznov’s side. He speaks of war, the exploitation of young men for their country, and how it is now their time for victory. The speech is the perfect call to action, as the imprisoned of Vorkuta seek death over enslavement, even though, a Thundergun easter egg would have helped too.

2 I Fight (The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim)

There is a uniqueness to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim for its story. Not only does the player embark on the journey of the Dragonborn, to fight the evil Alduin the World-Eater, but they are also faced with the decision of war. The player can embark on either side, the Imperials, or the Stormcloaks.

The leader of the Stormcloaks is Ulfric Stormcloak, the Jarl of Windhelm. The civil war in Skyrim is over the Nords and their rights to their freedoms and right to beliefs. He gives a powerful speech on why he fights, and even if the player opposes Ulfric’s rule, they cannot fault his dedication.

1 Life’s End (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater)

Hideo Kojima’s creative genius has no end, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is no exception. When The Boss betrays Naked Snake, he ventures through the game in wondering why she would betray her country, and him in particular.

At the final confrontation, The Boss provides Snake with a great speech. It’s a one-sided conversation in which Snake just listens, and is enthralled by her words. It’s one of the saddest scenes in the franchise. His love for his mentor is strong, and The Boss is encapsulating, and beautifully tragic. She’s one of the greatest characters in Metal Gear , and her character had a domino effect on the entire franchise.

15 Most Badass Monologues In Video Game History

"Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?"

best game speeches

Cinema has long been the go-to medium that everyone would look to for legendary monologues, and you'd expect no less from something that's been around for over 100 years. However, ever since video games evolved from blips and bloops and made cinematic storytelling possible, they've been brimming with memorable speeches that cause tingles to go up your spine, engraining themselves into your collective subconscious in the process.

Whether they spur us on into last stand battles, mockingly introduce us to ruined worlds or make us rethink everything we've done in the game up to that point, video game speeches have a unique relationship with the player.

What gives them their power is the fact that they're addressing you directly, pulling you in on a personal level and inviting you to react and respond to them - be it with your gun, your own dialogue options, or simply by playing the narrative laid out for you. A great video game monologue affects us in a way that no other medium ever will, and these are the greatest ones that will stuck with you forever.

Seven Most Influential Speeches In Video Games

Posted By Shubhankar Parijat | On 20th, Dec. 2010

best game speeches

Dialogues are a very vital part of any visual media of entertainment, which means video games as well. And the stronger and well-written the dialogues are, the better the story of the game turns out to be. It is believed by many that dialogues are the very backbone of any story, because if the dialogues fall flat, so does the entire narrative, for they are what drive the entire flow forward, lead one thing to the other.

Video games are no different in this aspect, especially the ones these days, what with them having so heavy and complex stories. And with strong speeches showered between regular intervals, a game can truly outshine its competition- if, of course, the speeches are well written and delivered.

Here is out list of the seven best speeches we have come across in games. These, we feel, were delivered and written nigh-perfectly, and provided for a few minutes of sheer awe and joy. Enjoy the list!

Remember, these speeches have been ranked and listed in no particular order.

Solid Snake- War Has Changed (Metal Gear Solid 4)

War has changed. It’s no longer about nations, ideologies, or ethnicity. It’s an endless series of proxy battles fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID-tagged soldiers carry ID-tagged weapons, use ID-tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control… All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield… controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control… War becomes routine.

Solid Snake is a great speaker, perhaps one of the best we have seen in any game, and he was probably at his peak in Metal Gear Solid 4. The very opening scene of MGS4 started off with a bang, as Solid Snake went on about how war has become much more complex and deep than it originally was. And with Kojima’s superb direction, the intro scene feels like nothing but a movie.

Visari- Defenders Of The Helghast Dream, Now Is Our Time (Killzone)

My people, sons and daughters of Helghan. For many years we have been a broken nation- shunned, oppressed and conquered by those we sought to escape. Days ago, I asked for time, and that time was granted by you. You, the strength in my arm, the holders of my dreams. Our forefathers embarked on the greatest exodus in the history of all mankind. An exodus for freedom. Helghan became that freedom. Our new world changed our bodies. At first, it weakened us. But in fact, we were growing stronger. In the time you have given me, I have rebuilt our nation. I have rebuilt our strength. And I have rebuilt our pride. Our enemies at home have been re-educated. We have given them new insights into our cause. On this day, we stand united once more. On this day, those driven to divide us will hear our voice. On this day, we shall act as one, and we shall be ignored no more. Defenders of the Helghast dream, now is our time.

The opening, and the best, few minutes of Killzone. Scolar Visari is a genius- that much can be figured out upon hearing his awesome speeches. And like the analogies that are drawn quite a lot of time not just in the game, but even on the forums, he was much like Adolf Hitler- a misguided genius. And yet, upon hearing Visari speak, we almost start believing him, start sympathizing with him. We start believing in the Helghan dream. That is how good a speaker he is- was. May he rest in peace.

Chairman Prescott- Humans Are No Strangers To War (Gears of War 2)

Humans are no strangers to war. After all, we’ve been fighting for as long as we can remember. War is all we know. In the past, we fought for emulsion. We fought for country. We fought for freedom. But all that changed after E-Day. For fifteen years, we have been fighting for our very survival against inhuman, genocidal monsters. But it is a fight we cannot continue. Humanity faces extinction, unless we end this war now. We had hoped the Lightmass bombing would decimate the Locust Horde, but they survived… and have returned stronger than ever. They’ve brought with them a force that can sink entire cities. Even Jacinto, our last beacon of hope through all these dark days, is now at risk. Soon, we’ll have nothing left to defend. And that means, we have only one option… attack. Gears, what I ask of you now is not an easy thing, but it is necessary. If we are to survive, if we are to live long enough to see the seasons pass, our children grow, and experience a time of peace that we have never known, we must now take this fight to the Locust. We will go to where they live and where they breed, and we will destroy them. This is the day we take the battle to the heart of the enemy. This is the day that we correct the course of human history. This is the day we ensure our survival as a species. Soldiers of the COG, my fellow Gears, go forth and bring back the hope of humanity.

Gears of War 2 is, according to many people, not half of what the original Gears was, but an epic storyline, presented through brilliantly directed cutscenes, make it an awesome game. And with a speech to boot at the very beginning, it becomes completely unforgettable. Chairman Prescott motivates his people to take one final stand against the Locust as their final hope, or all life would diminish, until the human race is completely eradicated, and these “genocidal” aliens take over.

The most badass video game mottos and speeches

Let me begin.

best game speeches

Back in my college days, I was forced to take a speech class in order to complete my degree. Being that I didnt have any great fear of public speaking, I figured this would be a simple class I could easily breeze through. The professor I ended up with, however, was one of the tougher ones in the school, and expected State of the Union Address-style perfection from all of us.

Needless to say, the class was much more stressful than I had anticipated. Years later, I still harbor some negativity toward him. And, since letting go of baggage is nothing but a good thing, Ive decided the time has come. The time to exorcise these demons once and for all. How? By passive-aggressively diverting my insecurities elsewhere and grading the speeches, sayings, and mantras of characters in video games.

"May the Night Mother wrap you in her cold, dark embrace." The Dark Brotherhood (The Elder Scrolls)

best game speeches

10/10 This salutation shared between those of you within the Dark Brotherhood is easily one of the most chilling things said in video games. It fits perfectly, allowing one to be cordial with a fellow killer-for-hire while still reminding one another of your true purpose and method of making a living.

Cold, macabre, and eerily effective, theres something awesome in the way its shared between Brothers that gives it the ultimate badass edge so many others strive for. Truly, the greatest shame is that none of your victims will ever fully appreciate the lengths to which your badassery goes before taking a dagger to the throat.

"Nothing is true. Everything is permitted." Ezio Auditore da Firenze (Assassins Creed: Revelations)

best game speeches

Full speech: "Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. To say that nothing is true is to recognize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say that everything is permitted is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic."

6/10 While its a beautiful breakdown of the Creed, Ezio, I dont know if this reaches quite the same heights of badassery as the others on this list. Rather than being a badass statement, its a little bit more of a philosophical lecture on the mindset and beliefs held by the Assassins. Plus, in this explanation, were supposedly talking about a group of people who dedicate their lives to perfecting the killing arts. This sounds like the initiation speech of a really pretentious fraternity. I will give you this; the poignant way in which you deliver it gives each word a nice punch, but its not the skull-crushing blow it needs to be to stand out on this list.

"Spartans never die. They just go to Hell and regroup." Spartans (Halo Series)

best game speeches

8/10 Allow me to be frank with you, Halo. Although it sounds a bit like the grumbled, jingoistic military nonsense spoken by Colonel Quaritch in Avatar, I do have to admit this saying has a nice ring to it. The Spartans themselves are tough as a bear raised in a barbed wire forest, so its fitting for them to have an equally tough mantra used to help assuage the emotions of those mourning their MIA comrades.

Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more

As any good commanding officer will know, its important to keep morale high during times of war, especially when that war is one waged with ancient alien races looking to blast lasers through the midsections of unsuspecting humans. So Halo, as much as I dont love campy military dialogue, I cant fault you for evoking the image of immortal soldiers as a way to keep everyone motivated to finish this fight.

"Amonkira, Lord of Hunters. Grant that my hands be steady, my aim be true, and my feet swift. And, should the worst come to pass, grant me forgiveness." Thane Krios (Mass Effect 2)

best game speeches

10/10 Thane, everything about this prayer serves as a nice summation of who you are. You are, in my mind, one of the ultimate badasses, a gentleman killer who is fully aware of his power and feels no need to broadcast machismo to the entire world. The mere fact that you do this so well is nothing short of impressive.

Humility and loyalty are two of your most important traits, and this prayer to Amonkira shows it. Whats more, this prayer very delicately asks for success in killing someone and forgiveness in the event everything goes wrong, all delivered in one cool, reverent breath. If I were one of your targets, Id be hiding under the blankets of my bed, completely terrified. Well done, sir. Take a bow.

"When we hunt, we kill. No one is safe. Nothing is sacred. We are Blackwatch. We are the last line of defense. We will burn our own to hold the red line. It is the last line to ever hold." Blackwatch (Prototype)

best game speeches

9/10 I wont lie folks; this is a pretty solid creed. Death is promised, safety is denied, and you pretty much establish yourselves as cold-blooded pragmatists that will do anything to ensure the success of your mission, including sacrificing your own people for the sake of your objectives.

The only thing that counteracts this is that youre essentially proven worthless against one man who has the ability to transform himself into a hideous writhing monster in varied forms. Youve successfully contained entire viruses before, but youre not able to stop a single dude who looks like the bass player of a late '90s punk rock band. You might want to spend a little less time reciting badass creeds and start working a lot more on your combat performance.

"I am matter. I am antimatter. I can see your past. I can see your future. I consume time, and will consume you." Culex (Super Mario RPG)

best game speeches

9/10 Culex, the most devastating part of this entire saying of yours is the fact that you pretty much simultaneously declare yourself anything and everything all at once. That sets up pretty lofty expectations, which is exactly what the ultimate badass needs to be fully realized.

Where you run into trouble is the continuity thing. You start off declaring that you are both everything and nothing, that you see the future and "consume time," and then immediately jump to consuming your foes. Which, you know, thats fine, but the two arent really connected per se. A minor critique, but one you might want to keep in mind the next time you decide to emerge and wish devastation upon unsuspecting plumbers and their friends.

"My name is Ultima. I am power both ancient and unrivaled. I do not bleed, for I am but strength given form. Feeble creatures of fleshyour time is nigh!" Ultima Weapon (Final Fantasy)

best game speeches

9/10 I really do have to applaud your brash confidence and self-esteem, Ultima. You obviously think highly of yourself, and it shows in this amazingly badass declaration. It also doesnt hurt that youre a massive, terrifying dragon monster in almost all of your varied forms.

The only issue you run into here is that youve appeared in a number of Final Fantasy games and have been defeated time after time by its different characters. The fact that you have proven yourself so vulnerable sort of robs this statement of its ultimate badassery. After all, why fear a villain with an amazing and ominous declaration of power such as this when you know its possible to defeat him? Plus, your adorable chibi form in Theatrhythm honestly does little to leave me quaking in my boots.

"We will be reborn in the cold womb of the ocean." (BioShock 2)

best game speeches

9/10 To the Rapturian vandal who decided to scrawl this on the wall in BioShock 2: well done. Yours is a ruined city plagued with insanity and run by the unstable, and yet, like the diehard fans of a horrible sports team, theres an undying sense of hope within its citizens that things will one day return to their former glory.

Thats why this creed is so powerful; its direct in its message, a declaration that things will one day be good again. That one day, people wont have to walk down hallways and see blood smears on walls or damaged corpses lying awkwardly on the floor. Of course, we all know how things eventually turned out for the once-Utopian underwater paradise, but heyits good to dream.

"The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes." G-Man (Half Life 2)

best game speeches

7/10 Heres the thing, G-Man: when you deliver this quote, its done in a way that implies you know things are about to get crazy. This makes things even more unsettling and mysterious, because we know next to nothing about you other than the fact that you enjoy speaking cryptically and have a penchant for fine mens wear.

Its really the way you deliver this line that robs it of some of its ultimate badassery. At the best times, you have a very creepy, unhinged way of speaking that is nothing short of unsettling, but its undercut by words you sometimes brokenly deliver like an old man in a nursing home asking for a bowl of oatmeal. You dont have a deep, sinister voice, so playing up the creepiness of your mysterious nature will go a long way in helping you achieve badass actualization in the future.

"God: the title suits me well." SHODAN (System Shock)

best game speeches

Full speech: "In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that devastate the mounds of humanity. Out of the chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well." SHODAN (System Shock)

10/10 Ill be honest, SHODAN: things simply dont get any more terrifying than this. Your haunting, distorted voice delivers each of these lines slowly, savoring them like a fine wine while casually condemning humanity. Whats more, you kind of hit on all the points necessary to qualify as a horrifying villain: promise of death and destruction to humanity, descent into utter madness, omnipotence, and that whole difficult-to-stop thing that keeps people from ever fully being able to defeat you. Well done, SHODAN. Well done.

What say you?

best game speeches

There we have it. Badassery was expressed, chilling dialogue was delivered, and weve hopefully offered our heroes a bit of constructive criticism that will one day transform them into the pinnacles of badassdom they all aspire to be. How to Make Every Pre-Game Speech a Winner

I love pre-game speeches. I love the excitement and anticipation before the face off. I love watching coaches, like yourself, share a few final thoughts before the teams take the field. How can you make the most of those precious moments before the game? Let’s look at 4 Cs to guide your pre-game speech.

Pre-Game Speech, the Art of the Pre-Game Speech, 4 Targets for a Pre-Game Speech, Coach’s Talk, Inside the Huddle, Pre-Game Speeches, Lockerroom Pep Talks, Motivational Speeches, Confidence, Cohesion, Concentration, Commitment, Team Cohesion, Motivation, Sport Psychology, Coach Education, Coach Development, Mental Toughness, Resilience, Team Culture, Culture Development, Personal Development, Mental Conditioning, Cognitive Performance, Mental Training, Mental Game, Mindset

The art of the pre-game speech is a skillset many coaches struggle to master.

You may wonder:

  • What does my team need to hear?
  • What kind of example can I use?
  • What message do I want to get across?

4 Targets for Your Pre-Game Speech

To help you focus your message, I’ve identified 4 targets of a powerful pre-game speech.

To keep it simple, I’ll show you how to hit each of the 4 Cs.

1. Confidence

One of the six sources  of confidence is preparation. Payton Manning once said, “Pressure is something you feel when you don’t know what the hell you’re doing.”

Help your athletes overcome pressure and play with confidence by highlighting the hard work, sweat equity, and diligent hours they’ve invested to be ready for this game. Talk about the collective strengths and skills they have to match up against their opponents.

One caution: stick to what’s true.

2. Cohesion

Jon Gordon tells us that, “Team beats talent when talent isn’t a team.” A united team is a powerful team.

Talk your team about what they’ve been through together. Refer back to early morning conditioning and adversity they’ve endured. Emphasize the importance of playing together as one unified team.

Urban Meyer did this all season long with the Ohio State Buckeyes football program. Their staff pounded the concept of “Seven Units Strong” into their team, showcasing how the seven position groups had to play together if they were to reach their goals. That year they won the first FBS Playoff National Championship.

3. Concentration

It is easy for athletes to get focused on the wrong things. I often refer to this collection of distractions as worries, doubts, and fears . This is especially true when players are focused on things they can’t control (i.e., referees, weather, opponents actions, winning or losing).

Encourage your athletes to focus only on what they can control . This minimizes stress and frustration and helps each player stay in the present moment. Emphasize the control they have over their attitude, effort, and level of execution – owning their role .

4. Commitment

You want your team to be resilient, persevere through momentum shifts, and fight to the end. That’s commitment – to each other, to the game, to giving their all.

A key to inspiring such commitment is to instill belief. Be an “over-believer,” like Dabo Swinney . Tell your team how much you believe in them and why. Belief fuels the fire of commitment.

Target at least one C in every pre-game speech, or hit them all. Plug and play what works best for you.

Your Pre-Game Speech Keys to Success

Whether you are a high energy motivator or a philosophical tactician you can master the art of a pre-game speech. You can use just a few words or take our time. The point is to make every word count.

By targeting these 4 Cs, you’ll ensure your team is receiving a message packaged to optimize performance. Confidence, cohesion, concentration, and commitment are your pre-game speech’s keys to success!

Question: What other targets do you believe are important for a pre-game speech?

The Game Awards Winner Speeches We Didn't Get to Hear

A number of winners at the game awards never took the mic at all..

Rebekah Valentine Avatar

In the days since The Game Awards last week, there have been a number of discussions from fans and developers about what the show should have been, or should not have been. And one common thread among them was a desire to hear more from more developers who were accepting awards.

While a number of award winners did get up and give speeches that were limited to roughly 30 seconds, some other winners never took the mic at all. The Game Awards has in recent years presented several of its categories rapidfire, between announcement trailers , with no opportunity for winners to get up and give speeches. In some cases, whether you agree with them or not, you can maybe see the thinking behind that choice: it's a three-plus hour show, Baldur's Gate 3 won a lot of awards, does Sven Winke really need to clonk up to the stage multiple times in his armor to accept them all? ( obviously the answer is yes, but I can see how some might argue differently ).

However, that doesn't really explain the choice to have so many award winners who only won one award not get a chance to accept their prizes with a speech, even one that would inevitably be cut short by prompters. A number of games were in this situation. Armored Core 6 (best action game), Resident Evil Village VR Mode (best VR/AR game), Sea of Stars (best indie), Final Fantasy 16 (best score), Street Fighter 6 (best fighting game), Honkai: Star Rail (best mobile game) and Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth (most anticipated) were all put in this position, as were all the esports awards and content creator of the year.

Sure, maybe there are good explanations for why this happened. Maybe they weren't able to send representatives out to accept the award, or declined to give a speech at all. But however we ended up here, it did end up feeling that a lot of deserving winners got skipped, and that's kind of a bummer regardless of intention.

So we reached out to a number of the developers who hadn't gotten a chance to give their speeches for whatever reason, and offered them the chance to do so here on IGN. Here's what we got back:

Thierry Boulanger, Co-Founder & Creative Director at Sabotage Studios and Game Director on Sea of Stars, Winner of Best Indie

Thank you so much. I've been outspoken throughout development that Sea of Stars is a game that's incredibly personal to me. It would be hard to put into words how much it means that the team allowed me to share this vision and then poured themselves into it to such an extent. That is something I will never forget. We are all so lucky to do what we love, and I try to keep that reminder close every day that I have the privilege to make games.

Like many productions, it has been a very challenging and fulfilling journey. Everyone from the team at Sabotage has poured in an incredible amount of heart and soul in this little world we created, and it is a real delight to see everyone that gathered to celebrate it. Shoutout to our partners Du Coup Animation for their amazing job on the cinematics, and to Kowloon Nights for believing in us from day one. And finally, a big warm hug to all our fans for their incredible support since the game was announced. Thank you! Phil Crifo, Creative Director at Awaceb and Game Director on Tchia - Winner of Games for Impact

[Author's Note: Sony's Shuhei Yoshida accepted the award on behalf of Crifo at The Game Awards and did offer a short speech, but Crifo also shared his own thoughts with us since he couldn't be there.]

This has an especially symbolic place in my heart, because the first time we revealed Tchia was on this show, and back then we couldn't believe that a little piece of New Caledonian culture was, for the first time, being broadcast to millions of people around the world. We were incredibly proud then, and even prouder today.

There are many people I'd like to thank:

  • Thierry Boura and Marilou Lopez, for taking that leap of faith with me.
  • My Awaceb family, for their trust and unbelievable talent.
  • Alexis Garavaryan, for somehow believing in this crazy project.
  • Everyone at Kepler who I love dearly.
  • Greg Rice for noticing Tchia so early, and everyone at PlayStation.
  • Thanks to the Game Awards for celebrating games like ours, and congratulations to the other nominees who deserve this just as much.
  • And most importantly, I'd like to thank the whole population of New Caledonia for championing and embracing Tchia all along.

This award is not just a celebration of what we made, it is fuel to keep going, and to keep telling stories that are deeply ours, believing they will keep resonating with all of you.

Takayuki Nakayama, director on Street Fighter 6 - Winner of Best Fighting Game

In a field of strong titles appearing in recent years, we’re very thankful to be selected Best Fighting Game. All the other nominated fighting games are amazing and shine brilliantly. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the players and to the members of the development team who worked so hard to bring the next chapter of the Street Fighter series to life. We will not be complacent and will continue to develop the game and provide the best experience possible to our fans. Thank you very much for your continued support.

Shuhei Matsumoto, producer on Street Fighter 6 - Winner of Best Fighting Game

Thank you very much for choosing Street Fighter 6 for Best Fighting Game. I was moved by the loud cheers in the theater when we won the award. I am filled with gratitude to the members of the development team who took on many challenges and to everyone who has played the game. We will continue to make Street Fighter 6 more exciting for players to enjoy, so please look forward to it!

The Resident Evil Village Development Team for Resident Evil Village VR Mode - Winner of Best VR/AR Game

It’s such a privilege to be selected as Best VR/AR game. From the solitude of the snowy mountains to the ornate beauty of the castle, and the intimidating immensity of Lady Dimitrescu, stepping into the shoes of Ethan Winters and seeing the game's world from his perspective in the PSVR2 version of Resident Evil Village is a unique and unforgettable experience. We greatly appreciate and thank you for all the support!

Update 12/14/2024: Following the publication of this piece, Larian CEO Swen Vincke took to Twitter/X to share a full version of what he wanted to say at The Game Awards, having been cut short in his actual speech to a 30 second limit. We're embedding his thread below:

What I wanted to say at the #gameawards (1/16) — Swen Vincke @where? (@LarAtLarian) December 14, 2023

Original story continues: It can be easy to dismiss the need for these moments, especially if you're primarily watching a show like The Game Awards for the trailers. Why do we need to hear another developer thank their team and their players, right? But the chance to stand in front of your audience and peers and accept the honor and recognition they are giving you can be a powerful, weighty moment, especially for small developers who don't often get a stage of that size. Hopefully The Game Awards is able to squeeze in a few more in future years.

Top 6 Best Boss Speeches in Video Games

Boss Video Games

Even if you are not an avid gamer, you must be familiar with video games that include bosses. Basically, a boss is a challenging character controlled by a computer in video games. He/she must be defeated at the end of a game segment, level, or the very end of the game itself. Bosses appear in different types of video games, including those based on a story, shooters, racing and fighting games, survival horrors, role-playing, and platform games. Typically, games feature several bosses and each of them is more difficult than the last one.

By the way, bosses usually give exciting speeches created by professional copywriters working at web development companies. Generally, writing a great speech is quite an important skill nowadays. That’s why students are often assigned this task at schools and colleges. But what to do if you can’t deal with it? Check the answer below.

Help with Speech Writing

Speeches are an integral part of our life. We hear them at ceremonies, competitions, concerts, and various public events. Hence, making a good speech is a vital skill. To develop it, you can start by following an example of professional speech writers. When I had to write my speech for graduation, I turned to a special company to help with that. Experts working there completed this task for me, so I had an excellent example of how to create a powerful speech that will touch listeners. Besides, if you like video games, you can get inspiration for your speech from so-called bosses. Let’s consider some of the best speeches given by them.

The best speeches by a boss in video games

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

The game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an action-adventure developed by Japanese company FromSoftware. Some people think that it’s a bit thin on the ground for storytelling. However, Sekiro tells a great tale about coups, hierarchal collapse, and a number of mystic dragons. But to access it, players must make it quite far. Before the final battle, you can also hear an extremely powerful introductory speech by a boss.

Boss Video Games

Far Cry 2 is a first-person shooter that was developed and published by Ubisoft Montreal. The game is set in a fictional East African country where a civil war takes place. The storyline is focused on a mercenary whose task is to kill a weapons dealer called Jackal. The phrase that hooked many players in his amazing speech is “The Harder You Beat A Man, The Taller He Stands”.

best game speeches

Gears Of War 2

Another shooter on our list is ‘Gears Of War 2’. It was developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios, expanding technically on the previous version. Interestingly, the plot for the game was provided by Joshua Ortega, a famous comic book writer. The phrase that causes players to be lost in thought is “Life Is Cruel” said Queen Myrrah in her opening speech in the first sequel.

Boss Video Games

Resident Evil 5

All shooter game fans must know ‘Resident Evil 5’. This is a third-person shooter created by Capcom. The plot of ‘Resident Evil 5’ follows an investigation of a terrorist threat by agents called Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. The events take place in Kijuju, a fictional region of Africa. This game is also known for its expressions like “Incompetence surrounds me!” and “Let me clarify something for you, Chris. I don’t think of myself as a king. No, I am a god! And even kings bow to gods!” said Douglas.

best game speeches

Batman: Arkham City

This is an action adventure published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. and developed by Rocksteady Studios. Obviously, it’s based on the DC Comics superhero Batman . Actually, this game is the sequel to the 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. In the main storyline, Batman must uncover the secret behind a threatening scheme orchestrated by Hugo Strange. The words that impress players of this game are “There’s Plenty Wrong With Me”. It seems many of us could relate to this phrase.

best game speeches

‘BioShock’ is an exciting first-person shooter designed by 2K Boston and 2K Australia. This is the first game in the BioShock series, whose concept was developed by Ken Levine, Irrational’s creative lead. It’s important to note that ‘BioShock’ incorporates ideas spread in the 20th century by dystopian and utopian thinkers, including Ayn Rand, George Orwell, and Aldous Huxley. What words from ‘BioShock’ speeches will make you think? Probably, the following:  “Oh, hang on. I am a massive puppet who isn’t in control of my own destiny here”. Is this true about you?

If This Epic Pre Game Speech Doesn’t Fire You Up.. Check Your Pulse

Sports and epic speeches seem to go hand in hand. If you need a hit of motivation scroll down.

One of the most motivational speeches is Al Pacino from Any Given Sunday but another epic pep talk is the pre game speech delivered by Kurt Russell in Miracle.

The film is based on the 1980 hockey Olympics match between the unbeatable  Soviet Union and the huge underdogs the United States.

In the film, the United States was greatly outnumbered in size and experience.

The task before them seemed impossible.

But Kurt Russell, playing the US coach Herb Brooks, delivers the incredible miracle speech to motivate his team.

If This Epic Pre Game Speech Doesn’t Fire You Up 🔥 Check Your Pulse

Here are three lessons you can take from the iconic speech.

When It’s Your Time, Be Ready | Epic Pre Game Speech

As Herb Brooks said, “Great moments are born from great opportunity.” The best moments in sports and life always happen when a moment is seized.

Whether it’s Tom Brady stepping up to win another Super Bowl or Michael Jordan making so many clutch shots for game winners.

The reasons these moments were made was becuase they made them happen. Without hard work, consistency and dedication they would have never been able to perform on the biggest stages.

Ask yourself, are you putting in the work to set yourself up for big moments?

Are you doing the little things, day in and day out, to get the chance to shine when your opportunity arrives?

If This Epic Pre Game Speech Doesn't Fire You Up 🔥 Check Your Pulse

Quit Worrying About the Odds | Epic Pre Game Speech

As Kurt Russell said in the film, “If we played them 10 times they would win nine. But not this game. Not tonight.” If you are trying to achieve something great in your life, chances are the odds are stacked against you.

Whether you’re trying to become a professional athlete, build an epic business or win a marathon, the odds are most likely against you. That’s ok, if it was easy everyone would do it!

The problem is that so many people see the odds and don’t even try. Remember, the biggest failure in life is not trying.

When the odds are against you think to yourself how great it will feel when you defy all expectations. Don’t forget, the United States went on to complete the ultimate victory despite the odds being stacked against them.

No one in the world believed it was possible. They believed .

If This Epic Pre Game Speech Doesn't Fire You Up 🔥 Check Your Pulse

Always Believe in Yourself | Epic Pre Game Speech

Do you believe in yourself with 100% confidence? As Kurt Russell said to close the speech in Miracle, “Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world.”

He gave them these final words before the Olympians took the ice. These words helped them believe in themselves.

You have to have to have 100% belief in yourself or else you’ll never make it happen. Don’t worry about people telling you that you’re not good enough, smart enough or talented enough.

Choose to believe in yourself.

If you haven’t seen the movie Miracle I highly recommend it as the movie is incredibly inspirational. Remember, miracles exist but you have to put in the work to make them happen.

If you aren’t willing to do the work when no one is watching you’ll never get your chance to be a champion.

10 Inspirational Locker Room Speeches That Will Remind You It's More Than Just A Game

When it comes down to it, a sport is much more than just a game. You're playing for your team. You're playing for your brothers, your sisters and anyone who ever believed in you.

But when you're getting your ass whooped, sometimes it's hard to keep the faith. However as we all know, it's how you react to adversity and bounce back that measures the greatness of an individual.

The true leaders are guys who motivate those around them. And, sometimes, this needs to be vocalized just like we've seen in countless locker room speeches.

Once you master this, it can be applied to anything in life as the recipe for success is pretty much universal -- hard work and not being afraid to fail! These are 10 Inspirational Locker Room Speeches That Will Remind You It's More Than Just A Game.

Jameis Winston Fires Up Florida State

Even as a freshman for no. 1 Florida State, Jameis Winston proved his value as a leader with this brief, but epic halftime speech. Down to Clemson heading into the third, Famous Jameis reminded his brothers that they should smile. There was just no way he was letting them leave Death Valley without a win. The fact that he went on to lead his team to the victory only solidifies his status as this year's Heisman winner.

Ray Lewis Hypes Up The Stanford Men's Basketball Team

Before a 2010 NIT Tournament at Madison Square Garden, Ray Lewis surprised the Stanford basketball team by delivering them a rousing speech before tipoff. That extra motivation was all they needed as they went on to win the championship game over Minnesota.

West Virginia Coach Bill Stewart Inspires His Troops

Former West Virginia Mountaineers coach Bill Stewart died suddenly from a heart attack in May 2012 at the age of 59, but he left his mark with his team when it counted. Before a match up between Oklahoma in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl, he left no doubt what the team needed to do as the Mountaineers went on to best the Sooners to win the game. His ability to motivate the team was his biggest strength as a coach and this moment proved it. This man was a true legend.

Ed Reed At The University of Miami

Before he was patrolling NFL secondaries, Ed Reed was a legend at the college level for the Miami Hurricanes. Hurting at the half, he didn't have much else to say to his team than to try harder. Playing while injured, Ed Reed is probably the last of a dying breed of safeties who put it all out on the line. If you need any more convincing that he was born to do this, then watch this.

Les Miles Plays For Victory

Les Miles has one motive every time he takes his team out onto the field: play for victory. Dominate the opponent, play together and beat their ass. This recipe for success has been pretty solid for him as one of the top teams in the SEC as he has the power to make his team rise up to any occasion.

Chuck Pagano After Beating Cancer

After his year-long (successful) battle with cancer, Colts head coach visited the team in the locker room to thank them for their support and help when his family needed it most. Then rookie quarterback Andrew Luck had a lot to do with the team's success, but it was all 53 guys on the roster who made their 2012 season a success and building block for the team's future. His illness surely made everyone realize that they were playing for more than just themselves, but for everyone around them.

LeBron James Fires Up The Heat In The Playoffs

I'll admit, this isn't the most motivational pre-game speech of all time, but these are the words and advice of one of the best ever to play the game. LeBron James has the mental aspect of the game down as he stays focused through some of the biggest distractions to continue to perfect his game and to make others around him better. Plus he has the heart of a champion!

Tim Tebow Proves His Greatness

When it's all said and done, and we can take a step back to look at things, Tim Tebow will probably go down as the greatest college football player of all time. His time at Florida was something truly special as he literally did everything for his team on the field. But it was what we didn't see that truly separated him. His leadership was unsurpassed as he was just one of those guys who plays with his emotion and instincts, which, in most cases, got his team the win. What a shame he doesn't play in the NFL today.

Ray Lewis Gets Deep (Pause)

Ray Lewis is a master of pre-game, halftime and post-game speeches. And while former teammate Joe Flacco said some of the things he said didn't even make sense, what does he know? Defensive players always have to get jacked up for their team and Ray Lewis was the greatest at it. He dug deep into his teammate's souls to bring the best out of them and that got him a Super Bowl ring during his last year in the league.

Louisiana Coach Mark Hudspeth Goes HAM

Raging Cajuns head coach Mark Hudspeth had his team playing one of the biggest games in school history back in 2011 when they faced off against San Diego State at the SuperDome. If he weren't being so damn motivational, he could've caught a charge for grabbing and pushing his players like that. But it was all to amp them up as they got the win.

They are typically given by head coaches of underdog teams who need a pre-game or halftime locker room pick-me-up to encourage the pursuit of victory against a challenging opponent. They can also arise in other unique ways that encapsulate the feelings of sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love of the game that reminds every athlete, coach, and fan why they play ball.

The timeless tale of inspiring underdogs in sports movies is the culmination of blood, sweat, and tears as well as fearlessness in the face of a formidable opponent. The best speeches in sports movies often remind those it is intended for to keep up their determination and maintain their belief in themselves. The most inspiring moments in sports movies come from the mutual desire to become greater than the sum of any given team's parts and often speak to notions of greatness and achievement that transcend the court or playing field.

10 Hoosiers - “I Don’t Care What The Scoreboard Says”

In the 1986 classic basketball film Hoosiers , Coach Norman Dale (Gene Hackman) delivers a passionate speech to his Hickory High School Huskers varsity team. Dale walks into a timid locker room in a make-or-break moment that will determine how the Indiana team will approach their big game. Dale's speech denounces the common anxieties that come with pre-game jitters, reminding his team not to focus on winning a distant state championship but to instead remember that the road to victory begins with one step. Dale encourages his team to forget about the crowds and the scoreboard, which leads to an iconic slow clap that fires the Huskers up before they hit the court.

9 Remember The Titans - “Leave No Doubt”

Remember the Titans is full of inspiring moments, but none capture the same intensity of the mid-game motivational speech given by Coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton). During the Northern Virginia Regional Championship Football Game, Yoast pulls his defensive players aside and reinforces their main objective, telling them to blitz the opponent's quarterback all night. After one of his star players quits during the game, Yoast improvises by subbing in back-up Alan Bosley (Ryan Gosling) and delivered the legendary line "You make sure they remember, forever, the night they played the Titans. Leave no doubt!"

8 Glory Road - “Take It”

The most motivational speech in the basketball film Glory Road is delivered by head coach Don Haskins (Josh Lucas) to his Texas Western basketball team as they are just two minutes from winning a national championship. In the huddle during a timeout, Haskins reminds his players that the key to winning a championship is about heart and which team wants to win the most. His inspiring speech encourages the underdog basketball team to take the victory from the established favorites since they will not hand it over simply. The speech is a declaration of the required willpower that turns competitors into champions.

7 Field Of Dreams - “People Will Come”

James Earl Jones delivers one of the most iconic speeches in all sports movies in Field of Dreams . Terence Mann (Jones) paints a portrait of what the baseball filed will inspire if Ray (Kevin Costner) builds it in his cornfield. The speech intercuts with Ray's contemplation of whether he should sell his property to ensure that he won't lose all of his financial assets. The inspirational speech creates the vision of a magical baseball field that will captivate every fan and player's attention and will ultimately prevent Ray from having to sell his beloved property. Mann memorably reminds Ray that if he builds the field, people will come.

6 Friday Night Lights - “Perfect”

Before the popular Friday Night Lights television series began, a 2004 movie of the same name starred Billy Bob Thornton as Coach Gary Gaines. Gaines delivers a brutally raw and honest speech to his team of football players that reminds them of the fleeting nature of life, encouraging them to seize the opportunity to win while they still have it. Gaines reiterates to his team at their most crucial and vulnerable moment that his notion of being "perfect" is not about winning the game, but about becoming good, reliable people through the game. It's a poignant speech that dives into how life is much bigger than any sports game.

5 We Are Marshall - “You Cannot Lose”

We Are Marshall is one of the most devastating sports films ever made with many tear-jerking moments. Coach Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) brings his college football team to the final resting place of former Marshall players and staff members who died in a tragic plane crash. In a grim yet powerful speech, Lengyel reminds his players that although their opponent is physically stronger and more efficient than them, they aren't aware of how passionate they are. Lengyel's message touches on the deepest motivation of any sports competition, which is the commitment and heart in every player and team that can fuel an underdog to victory.

4 Coach Carter - “Our Deepest Fear”

One of the most motivational speeches in sports films is surprisingly not delivered by a coach but a player. In Coach Carter , point guard Timo Cruz (Rick Gonzalez) stands up and recites a poetic monologue that demonstrates the life lessons Coach Carter (Samuel L. Jackson) had taught him during their basketball season. Cruz begins by saying, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." The moment delivers one of the rare speeches in sports movies that is applicable to philosophy and life in all areas, making it exceptionally profound even to non-sports fans.

3 Rocky Balboa - “It’s Not About How Hard You Hit”

Another beautifully constructed speech that applies to life outside the ring can be found is 2006's Rocky Balboa . Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) gives an impassioned pep talk to his son that delicately criticizes and motivates him to rise to difficult challenges. One of the most poignant parts of the speech is when Rocky says, "It ain't about how hard you can hit, but about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." It's an incredible message about the importance of resiliency and overcoming obstacles in order to find success and happiness in life.

2 Miracle - “Great Moments Are Born From Great Opportunity”

In Miracle , Coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) delivers one of the best pre-game speeches of all time. Brooks's command of the 1980 U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey team is akin to an army general, which is appropriate given the international tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War at the time. Brooks's speech is focused on the unification and determination required to achieve the highest form of victory. It stresses the importance of disavowing any self-doubt in order to make the most of rare opportunities when they are given.

1 Any Given Sunday - “Life Is A Game Of Inches”

The most inspirational speech in all sports movies is performed by Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday . Coach Tony D'Amato (Pacino) gives a speech that is motivational, heartfelt, relatable, and poetic all at once, proclaiming that life itself is a game of inches that must be earned, just like football. The speech is performed like a sermon that highlights the significance of margins of error in both football and life, which makes all the differences between winning and losing. D'Amato's speech perfectly combines passion, intelligence, and philosophy to create the most inspiring sports movie speech of all time.

As with all aspects of the speech, the coach needs to know their team well enough to decide how much emotion to show

50. How important is the delivery of the pre-game speech?

The delivery of the pre-game speech is as important as its content. A well-delivered speech can engage the players, command their attention, and set the tone for the game. Best WWE Hall Of Fame Speeches

Since its return as part of WrestleMania weekend in 2004, the Hall Of Fame ceremony is one of the most anticipated events on the WWE calendar. Fans can’t wait to relive the past, along with the superstars getting inducted. Much like the rest of the weekend, it’s one of the best times of the year to be a fan.

Every Version Of Paul Heyman Ranked Worst To Best

This year’s crop is no different, as several speeches are expected to be amazing to listen to, none more so than a man who has made his living being the loudest mouth in the room. Paul Heyman takes his rightful place among the legendary men and women, some of whom he sat under their learning tree, and some who got to sit under his. Here are the best speeches in WWE Hall Of Fame history.

Bret Hart Stands Tall And Shares Some Good Neidhart Tales

The hitman and the anvilette honor the anvil.

  • The Hart Foundation was inducted in 2019.
  • The Pink And Black Attack are two-time WWE Tag Team Champions.
  • Bret Hart was assaulted by a fan during this induction.

Not even a jerk trying to accost The Hitman could ruin The Hart Foundation’s induction. After he was ceremoniously dealt with by FTR and others, Bret and Natalya got down to business . They each got to tell their experiences living with The Anvil - Bret as his partner and brother-in-law on the road, while Nattie spoke lovingly about her father.

Leaping Lanny Poffo Waxes Poetic About The Macho Man

The wwe’s poet laureate helped to induct his brother.

  • Randy Savage was inducted in 2015.
  • The Poffos' father, Angelo, had a long-standing record for sit-ups - 6033 in four hours.
  • The Macho Man was a six-time world champion.

The induction of The Macho Man was a long time coming. There wasn’t a more fitting acceptor than The Macho King’s younger brother, Lanny.

10 Wrestlers "Macho Man" Randy Savage Couldn't Get Over

The Genius, a great orator in his own right, recited a new original poem honoring his brother. Despite Savage wanting to wait until all The Poffos would be inducted as a family, Lanny knew it was best to bow down to The Macho King.

Beth Phoenix Follows Her Heart

The glamazon encouraged her daughters to follow their dreams.

  • Beth Phoenix was the youngest inductee in 2017.
  • She and Edge were the first ever married couple inducted.
  • The Glamazon is a four-time world champion.

Until the ladies really started to break through in the mid-2010s, ladies like Beth Phoenix were charged with pushing the boundaries of what a female wrestler could be. For her efforts, she was inducted. During her speech, she was able to praise all the people who helped her along the way - especially Molly Holly . She was also able to pay tribute to her husband and deliver a message of empowerment to her daughters.

Journeys from san diego to around the world.

  • Rey Mysterio was inducted in 2023.
  • The induction was the first to be tied into current storylines (Dom walked out).
  • Rey was the first ever inductee who is still working full time.

With a career that dates back to the eighties, it’s easy to forget just how young Rey Mysterio still is. The Legendary Luchador is in his mid-forties and has shown no signs of slowing down at all. That didn’t stop WWE from giving him his flowers, despite his trashy son and his friends walking out of his induction ceremony . Rey was able to thank everyone who helped him along the way, especially God (and Konnan).

Ric Flair Tried To Stay All Night... And Stay A Little Longer

Naitch was gonna naitch.

Ric Flair’s induction speech was a moment we had been waiting for, for a long time. Naitch’s decades-spanning career being featured was a big part of WrestleMania 24 weekend. Ric Flair took us all back to his earliest days of training as well as all of his days styling and profiling. When Triple H tried to tell him to wrap it up, he simply ramped it up more and kept paying tribute to practically everyone who was a part of his career.

The Bushwhackers Get Everyone Whacking

How the hardcore sheepherders licked their way into the hall.

  • The Bushwhackers were inducted in 2015.
  • They are one of the few inductees to have not won tag team gold.
  • The team wrestled for over 40 years.

Considering who they were during their career, you might not consider The Bushwhackers great talkers. You’d actually be right.

10 Things Wrestling Fans Should Know About The Bushwhackers' Time In WWE

But what made their Hall Of Fame speech hall of fame worthy was the energy they brought to telling their story. The energy was so infectious they even convinced a lot of their fellow comrades to come up and say hello while doing The Bushwhacker walk.

🐐  Tara VanDerveer's path to becoming the winningest coach in college basketball   "Basketball is the greatest group project there is and I am so incredibly thankful for every person who has supported me and our teams throughout my coaching career," said VanDerveer. "I've been spoiled to coach the best and brightest at one of the world's foremost institutions for nearly four decades. Coupled with my time at Ohio State and Idaho, and as head coach of the United States National Team, it has been an unforgettable ride. The joy for me was in the journey of each season, seeing a group of young women work hard for each other and form an unbreakable bond. Winning was a byproduct. I've loved the game of basketball since I was a little girl, and it has given me so much throughout my life. I hope I've been able to give at least a little bit back."

Tara VanDerveer cuts down the net after winning her third national championship in 2021.

VanDerveer will continue to work with Stanford and the Athletics Department in an advisory capacity.   "Tara's name is synonymous with the sport and women's basketball would not be what it is today without her pioneering work," said Stanford's Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics Bernard Muir. "She has been devoted to this campus for 40 years and a servant to all the student-athletes who have come through her program. Tara built one of the sport's iconic programs almost immediately upon her arrival at Stanford, and then maintained that standard for nearly four decades. An energetic and positive teacher, a Hall of Famer, a trusted friend and mentor, Tara's impact is simply unmatched, and I don't think it's a stretch to characterize her as one of the most influential people to ever be associated with this university. We will look forward to finding the appropriate ways to honor her deep impact and legacy here at Stanford."   VanDerveer's last day on The Farm will be May 8, on the 39th anniversary of her original hire.
