The Ultimate Guide To Football Themed Events

Football is by far the most popular sport in the world and the sheer passion its fans have for it makes it an ideal theme for an event. Transferring the energy and excitement from the pitch to your venue will make for an unforgettable night.

We’ve created this guide to give you some points in styling, decorating, and lighting your football themed event so that your atmosphere can reach a fever pitch.

Getting Started With Football Themed Events

Football themed events have a natural pairing when it comes to many award ceremonies, sporting events, and the celebration of sporting achievements. It can also work well with birthday parties, school events, bar and bat mitzvahs, and end of year parties.

It’s a versatile theme and you can choose your design to match your guest list, with the option of a family-friendly recreation of a football pitch, or a sleek award evening where guests will feel at home in their glamorous outfits.

Sporting arenas and large stadium conference centres are often the go-to football theme venues and many universities and leisure centres also make a good fit. Having lots of clear floor space or an outdoor area can be a good idea if you want to set up a place for guests to try their best at penalty shootouts.

However, as long as your venue has adequate staging for speakers or entertainment – you should be able to make any venue work with the right style.

Decorations, Furniture, And Design

Typical football decorations include icons from the game including goalposts, football boots, scarves, shirts, trophies, and, of course, the football itself. You can make these come alive with prints, posters, and props.

To complete the scene you might want to include light panels of special players, moments in football history, or your local team. Recreating green turf or grass across tables or walls can help emphasise your theme, as can netting and soccer-ball patterns.

For a fun twist, you might want to have a vintage football theme using images of 19th-century players, leather footballs, and candy strip football colours.

Using lit and coloured furniture including sitting cubes, poseur tables, and bright entranceways is a good method of getting your theme to stand out.

Centrepieces, Lighting, And Colour Scheme

Classic football colours are the green of the pitch and the black and white of the football. However, a good approach is also to use the colours of your local team or the team most associated with your group or organisation.

With the lighting, you might want to recreate the feel of floodlights or to have festoon lighting that twinkles like a sky full of footballs. Most importantly, you want to be able to control the colours and atmosphere of your event as the mood changes through the night.

A custom centrepiece is a perfect way to cost-effectively control the lighting and colour at your venue. The design can work as a statement piece that places your theme in the middle of every table.

It’s still in the packet because it’s not time to use it yet. It looks pretty, and I’m presuming it will practically dissolve in the rain. Good idea!

The eggs look good but I haven’t done anything with them yet. I’m making Easter Wreaths with dried clematis prunings and then I’m going to stick the feathers and eggs on top along with some dried flowers.
