'Kabzaa' movie review: An ambitious and violent crime drama
During the promotions, director R Chandru admitted that the KGF franchise inspired him to create the world of Kabzaa. But Kabzaa has its own personality, impressive grandeur, solid star cast, massive sets, whistle-worthy dialogues, over-the-top violence, and of course... Upendra.
The film is about the rise of the underworld and traces the life of Arakeshwara (Upendra). Narrated by encounter specialist Bhargav Bhakshi (Sudeep), the narrative has a never-ending barrage of characters, especially various dons, making fleeting appearances in and out of the film.
Set between the 40s and the 80s, we are introduced to Arakeshwara, who is born into a family of freedom fighters. Along with his parents and an elder brother, Sankeshwara (Sunil Puranik), the family is into weaving flags. Arakeshwara aspires to become a pilot and gets all the support from his elder brother.
However, his dreams are cut short when his brother is murdered. The otherwise mild Arakeshwara turns violent, and marks his accidental entry into the underworld. Will he succeed in ruling the roost for a long time or meet a worthy challenger in Bhargav Bakshi makes up for the first part, and Shivarajkumar’s cameo in this instalment only sets up a potential showdown between these three superstars in Kabzaa 2. The actual story of Kabzaa is established in the second half and is peppered with high-octane action sequences featuring swords, guns, and a lot of bloodshed. Points to stunt directors Ravi Varma, Vijay, Chethan D’ Souze, Vinod, Vikram Mor, and Thriller Manju for delivering the adrenaline rush.
Apart from the violence, Arakeshwara also has a romantic angle, involving Madhumathi (Shriya Saran), the Queen of the Bahaddhur family, who gets married against the wishes of her father. What price she pays for marrying a gangster is brought through various events, giving room for many more characters to be introduced in the sequel. There is a lot of drama, romance, and action, and can a film ever be complete without doses of mother sentiment?
Kabzaa is purely Chandru’s vision and he mounts it through the superstardom of the three stars. But undoubtedly, the film belongs to its technical crew who deliver a solid spectacle. Art director Shivakumar masterfully crafts the massive sets to bring alive Chandru’s vision for Kabzaa. Ravi Basrur continues to carry his signature style and balances the mass appeal of the film’s star cast, and the music required for commercial potboilers. While the background music might seem too loud, it justifies the film’s rather dark narrative. AJ Shetty, who has previously assisted Bhuvan Gowda in KGF, has utilised his learnings from that film in Kabzaa. Another KGF alumni, editor Mahesh Reddy employs a similar pattern but manages to dish out a distinct style too. However, the VFX leaves a lot to be desired.
‘If you want to win. I will play the game. If you want to kill, I will end the game,’ says Upendra in one of the high points of the film. Kabzaa allows the actor to showcase his super-heroic side, and he stands tall. He fits well into the role of Arakeshwara, and nails his transformation from a normal person to a dreaded don. Shriya is regal as the Queen, and is a perfect fit for the role. Sudeep’s narration adds value to the film and helps us traverse through the various timelines and characters. His appearance as a strict police officer will cheer his fans. Shivarajkumar’s entry makes you look forward to the sequel.
With countless characters seen in various face-offs with Upendra, Danish Akhtar Sait in the role of Baali, Nawab Shah as Bangera, Kamarajan as Khalid, and John Kokken as Malik, make their presence felt. There is Anup Revanna as Target Fayas and Murali Sharma who give a decent performance. The film also features Ashwath Ninasam and Suresh in blink-and-miss roles. In fact, innumerable characters in the film only end up being forgettable.
Kabzaa’s story does not follow KGF but it does have similar themes like the underdog becoming an underworld don. It is definitely a film for all those who enjoy action drama, superior technical quality, and of course, the high of watching three of Sandalwood’s biggest superstars coming together on the big screen.

Kabzaa Movie Review: Upendra, Sudeep star in KGF-lite film which questions your sensibility
R chandru’s kabzaa is a film that loves bullets, guns and beheaded men. starring upendra, kichcha sudeep and shriya saran, the film is an unimpressive gangster drama that is a danger to your eardrums, says our review..
Listen to Story
- Kabzaa features Upendra, Shriya Saran and Kichcha Sudeep.
- The film is directed by R Chandru.
- The film graced the screens on March 17.
Release Date: 17 Mar, 2023
Post Yash’s KGF’s resounding success, gangster dramas have become a repeated genre for filmmakers. And R Chandru’s Kabzaa doesn’t shy away from adapting KGF’s aesthetics. To an extent, it also adapts KGF’s story. And throughout, you get a Deja Vu feeling while watching Upendra beheading men, killing one villain after another.
Arkeshwaran is an Indian Air Force pilot and saint-like. He doesn’t even have the guts to confess his love for king Veer Bahadur’s daughter Madhumathi (Shriya Saran) to his mother. One day, his brother Sankeswaran dies a tragic death and gets beheaded. It’s an end to Arkeswaran AKA Arka's good days. His life takes a turn and he grows into a deadly mafia head.
Chandru’s film takes itself very seriously. It masquerades as a film that is high on content, but, in retrospect, it has a wafer-thin storyline. Instead, the voice-over tells you what we already know. The film is an example of how a voice-over shouldn’t be used if it cannot elevate an already drowning story. Kabzaa is a film that talks about the rise of a common man in the most violent way possible.
All Arkeshwara gets is targets to kill every 20 minutes. We are introduced to many villains at frequent intervals and Arka kills them in a jiffy. Either he walks around with the heads of the beheaded men or with pistols in his hand. Every single conflict gets resolved in a few minutes and, because of this, we are hardly invested in the story. We also see Arka trying to make our hearts melt with his romance with Madhumathi. But, you end up staring at the screen with zero expression on your face. Be it action or romance, nothing actually excites you.
Kabzaa suffers from predictability. It takes a formulaic route and the characterisation of the caricaturish villains does not add up to the story. On top of that, one of the villains played by Nawab Shah has a tattoo that reads ‘cruel.’ Wondering what it means? It’s a cue for you to be afraid of him.
The less said about the performances by Upendra, Sudeep and Shriya Saran, the better. There is no redeemable quality about Kabzaa except the ‘surprise’ in the climax, which gives a lead to the sequel. The sequence is tastefully done despite being quite predictable.
Ravi Basrur, who made heads turn with his captivating music in KGF, will make you go deaf with Kabzaa. In a scene, Upendra’s Arka says, ‘I am allergic to noise. I prefer silence.’ Upendra, we feel you!
Kabzaa could have been another KGF for the Kannada film industry. But, it ends up being a laughing stock.

A massive PAN Indian film named Kabzaa starring Upendra and Shriya Saran in the lead roles hit the screens today. Kiccha Sudeepa and Shiva Rajkumar played crucial cameos. The film, originally shot in Kannada, was dubbed into other Indian languages. P Chandru directed this period action film. Let’s see how it is.
Arkeshwara (Upendra), an Indian Air Force Officer, hails from a freedom fighter family. He is head over heels for Madhumathi (Shriya Saran), an affluent girl, and both plan to tie the knot. On the other hand, we get to see a bunch of dreadful gangsters and politicians who are craving power in Amarapura. In a complete turn around of events, Arkeshwara enters the crime world and eventually becomes a king. How did that change Arkeshwara’s life is the crux of the story.
Plus Points:
The cinematography is too good in Kabzaa, and the bygone era has been very well showcased. Upendra, who is known for his unique films, gave a very good performance. His screen presence is stunning, and he aced it in stunning action avatar.
The cameos by Kiccha Sudeepa and Shiva Rajkumar give major relief. The actors though seen for a very short time, make their presence felt. The action sequences are nicely composed, and the interval bang is alright.
Minus Points:
Once in a while, a film becomes a trendsetter through its unique presentation or concept. KGF is one such film that redefined heroism in Indian cinema. There is nothing wrong with getting inspired by such trendsetting movies, but the problem with Kabzaa is it almost looks like a replica of KGF. There must be some authentic factor to make the film appealing, but Kabzaa doesn’t have one. Right from story, narrative, and dialogues, Kabzaa looks exactly like KGF.
Even the voiceover that drives the story forward looks exactly similar to KGF. There is this car chase sequence in KGF 2 where the makers used a blackout effect to enhance the impact. In Kabzaa, this particular effect is used not once but throughout the movie, annoying the viewers extremely. It’s high time the filmmakers come out from KGF hangover and understand that the elements which worked for a movie won’t work all the time for other films.
That’s not the whole problem with Kabzaa. It has ages old story where the protagonist enters the crime world under inevitable circumstances. The film lacks any emotions, and hence we don’t feel the pain of the characters. The emphasis was entirely on making a larger-than-life film on a huge canvas, but unfortunately, the storytelling took a back seat in all this.
The second half is very difficult to sit through. The love track between the lead pair is pretty boring, and the romantic scenes keep coming intermittently, adding to the unending woes. The editing needed some serious changes. The fast cuts and clumsy presentation of scenes don’t help the film at all. The movie is dragged needlessly, and an even more aweful thing is announcing a sequel to this movie.
Technical Aspects:
Ravi Basrur’s music is loud, and the impact is heavily missing. Also, the story doesn’t give him enough scope to show his skills. The cinematography and production values are excellent. If not for AJ Shetty’s wonderful camera work, the movie would have been unbearable. The editing is bad, and the Telugu dubbing is poor.
Coming to the director Chandru, he did a poor job with the film. He also handled the story and screenplay but failed to leave a mark in any aspect. Even for a full blown action entertainer to succeed, there must be some emotion. But this aspect is completely missing in Kabzaa. The protagonist taking upon a crime world is a beaten-to-death concept, and hence there should have been some novelty.
On the whole, Kabzaa is a loud and boring period action drama that fails to live up to its expectations. Upendra and the cinematography are the only solaces in this tiresome flick. The routine story, uninteresting narrative, and lack of emotions make it a disappointing fare. You can comfortably skip this film.

Kabzaa Review: Upendra, Shriya Saran And Kiccha Sudeepa's Action Thriller Is A Mass Entertainer

Kabzaa Review: Upendra led film is the right film for you if you are craving to see an anti-hero like Rocky Bhai weak havoc on the enemies in a full-fledged commercial set-up.
Upendra, Shriya Saran, Kiccha Sudeep, and Shiv Rajkumar starrer period action thriller Kabzaa, known as Underworld Ka Kabzaa in Hindi, maybe the next big thing to come out from Kannada cinema after KGF and KGF 2. R. Chandru’s film might be a raucous affair when it comes to cinematic liberties but it surely has the pace and momentum right. From the first frame to the last, Kabzaa cements its place in the commercial pan-India genre with its sensational but derivative storyline, over-the-top action sequences, and sporadic drama supported through power-fuelled dialogues, occasional blood, gore, and a whole lot of swag oozing from its orifices.
The story takes place in pre-independence India when a king is murdered and his wife and two sons have to flee and take refuge in a place called Amarpura in South India. As time goes by, one of her sons, Arkeshwara (played by Upendra), grows up to become an air force pilot and far more meek, calm, and composed than his brother who finds himself on the right side of the moral compass. But as fate would have it, Arkeshwara’s brother gets killed for doing a righteous act and it compels Arkeshwara to tread the path of revenge soaked in blood and severed heads buried across the length and breadth of the Orwellian landscape. It’s a story about a commoner and the obstacles he endures that changes him into a dreadful gangster.
For some, it might take some time to get used to the brooding atmosphere of the film, especially if they haven’t watched KGF and KGF 2. But once the narrative takes off and solidifies an outline around the characters, it’s easier to get immersed in the motives of the characters and how they blend with their surroundings. Kabzaa comes with a lot of punch and employs similar audio-visual elements from the Yash starrer KGF series. A burgeoning convoy of cars, blazing guns, whimsical hand-to-hand combat, explosions, massy dialogues, and much more forms the staple of K. Chandru’s period gangster flick. It is hyperbolized with a mushy romantic track between Arkeshwara and Madhumathi Bahadur (played by Shriya Saran). Towards the climax, the same merges with the major crux of Kabzaa and shells out a blank canvas for the sequel.
The film is technically brilliant. The gritty and noir-esque cinematography establishes the tone of the plot which is superimposed by the ominous shades of grey. The background score and sound, though overtly loud in some segments, usher weight to the movie. That gravitas can further be witnessed through its cool editing style of blacking out and coming back, one which was a consistent template in KGF films.
In terms of the concept, Kabzaa is an individual film but technically as well as narrative wise-the film borrows blatantly from KGF, a glaring flaw that invalidates the soul of the film. Regardless, AJ Shetty for cinematography, Mahesh S Reddy for editing, and Ravi Basrur for music deserve due credit for their excellent work. Ravi Basrur’s discography for the film has a soulful number Namaami Namaami crooned by the dulcet Aishwarya Rangarajan.
Speaking about the screenplay, Kabzaa remains unapologetically merciless in giving sinister character arcs to its protagonist and letting him lose in a treacherous and somber world of plotting and gang factions that are involved in the struggle to gain power. The Hindi dialogues seemed diluted and a lot was lost in the translation. However, it still keeps you hooked to the premise with other intriguing cinematic elements that hugely retain the entertainment factor of Kabzaa.
Upendra as Arkeshwara makes for a befitting anti-hero, wielding the theatrics of a mass hero. Shriya Saran is a pleasant addition and her chemistry with Upendra is palpable. Kiccha Sudeepa is more of a cameo but delivers a convincing performance as Bhargava Bakshi. It would be interesting to see him take the centre stage in the sequel. Murali Sharma as Veer Bahadur channels the amalgamation of all his previous roles into one concrete and concise character vying for power. Shiva Rajkumar is another actor to look forward to in Kabzaa 2. Besides them, Nawab Shah, Sudha, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Kabir Duhan Singh, and others maintained consistency as supporting actors.
To sum it up, Kabzaa is the right film for you if you are craving to see an anti-hero like Rocky Bhai wreak havoc on the enemies in a full-fledged commercial set-up weaved with the help of adrenaline-pumping action sequences, edge-of-the-seat thrill, and larger than life characters. You’re bound to enjoy the twists and turns and the climax will leave you wanting for more.

Kabzaa Review
Kabzaa (2023) Movie: What's Behind
One of the high budget Sandalwood film Kabzaa is attracting the attention of all with the mass elements and impactful teasers and trailers. The star cast of Upendra, Shriya Saran, Prakash Raj, Shiva Rajkumar and Kiccha Sudeep is generating immense interest. The film directed by R. Chandru is releasing on 17 March 2023. The film's OTT rights have been acquired by Amazon prime and streaming will be after the completion of the theatrical run. Let us find out what Kabzaa offered to movie lovers.
Kabzaa Movie: Story Review
Kabzaa story is all about how the honest life of a freedom fighter's son who is also an IAF pilot undergoes shocking changes due to various circumstances and happenings in his life. Arkeswara (Upendra), the son of a freedom fighter, who as an IAF pilot posted in Visakhapatnam, gets posted to Dehradun.
Before heading to Dehradun, he goes to meet his mother and brother in Amarapura. He meets his lover Madhumati (Shriya Saran), daughter of Raj Bahadur (Murli Sharma), who loses his kingdom and powers after Independence and who tries to get back his powers by any means.
Where this leads to how the power tangle between various forces affects the happy life of Arkeswara and how it is connected to Bhargava Bakshi (Kichcha Sudeepa) should be found on the screen.
Kabzaa Movie: Artists Review
Upendra looked macho in his role. He just enacted high-octane action sequences and there is nothing much for him to do in the film. Shriya Saran is ok in her role. It seems she lost her charm in the close angles in the looks. She however exhibited her dancing talent in a song. Fans of Shriya will be extremely disappointed seeing her in such an unattractive manner. Murli Sharma's role is ok as the king who loses his powers after India's independence.
Kichcha Sudeep played the cameo and he looked intense. Shiva Rajkumar appeared in a cameo in the climax and his presence is a treat to his fans. There are many other actors in the film and all just sport menacing looks and did not have much to do.
Kabzaa Movie: Technicians Review
Kabzaa's story readied by R. Chandru seems to have been inspired by the tremendous success of KGF. The film has all the dark elements and R. Chandru stuck to the point and right from the start to finish, he showed people going berserk with all guns blazing. R.Chandru's story is nothing new and it is beaten to death and seen in many films earlier. He roped in top stars for his film from Sandalwood but with no real story and KGF shades, the cast had nothing much to do but just pass through the motions.
With a weak story and lack of emotions, R. Chandru's screenplay and direction went awry. He only glorified violence and tried to justify the murders committed by the protagonist because he was wrong and it is a bloodbath on the screen.
AJ. Shetty's cinematography is good. It elevated the scenes to another level. However, the slow motion shots are overdone and they ended up irritating viewers. Ravi Basrur's music did not make any impression. Even the background music is loud. The editing of Mahesh Reddy left many repetitive scenes. It slowed the pace of the film though the duration is just over two hours. Dialogues are just ordinary and according to commercial entertainers. Production values are good.
Kabzaa Movie: Advantages
- Cinematography
Kabzaa Movie: Disadvantages
- Forced Violence
Kabzaa (2023) Telugu Movie: Rating Analysis
Altogether, Kabzaa is a poor replica of KGF. R. Chandru planned to drive the masses crazy with a high-octane mass action entertainer. However, R. Chandru's story turned out to be outdated, and beaten to death. As the story offered nothing new and extremely weak, R. Chandru loaded it with violence and tried to highlight the scenes with massive explosions, glorification, and justification of violence without any reason. His screenplay and direction failed completely and became pathetic. R. Chandru should have concentrated on the story and script before loading the film with intense action elements propagating violence. Kabzaa shows how not to make a gangster movie. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 1 Rating for Kabzaa.

Kabzaa Movie Review: A KGF Rehash Where Men Roam Around With Beheaded Heads As Accessory, Possibly No Brains & Speak In Google Translated Dialogues
Kabzaa is a crash course on how not to make a gangster drama.
Star Cast: Upendra, Kichcha Sudeep, Shriya Saran, Murli Sharma, and ensemble.
Director: R. Chandru, Shivu Hiremath, and Soori
What’s Good: The production design and lighting departments are the only two who took their assignments a bit seriously.
What’s Bad: Rest everyone decided to copy from other’s sheet, and one has to see the sheer audacity of a team of people hell-bent on wasting a lot of money. There’s even a part two.
Loo Break: Whenever someone decides to smear someone’s head, we should all take mental breaks. Loo will serve as a meditation centre in this case.
Watch or Not?: If you have nothing else left to see, you might still want to watch that beautiful tree from your window. Also, I honestly want your eardrums to be safe.
Language: Kannada.
Available on: Theatres Near You.
Runtime: 136 Minutes.
I will try. Decades after independence, two sons of a dead king who eloped with their mother are in hiding in the South of India. When they grow up, one of the two is murdered, and the other roams around seeking revenge, only to kill people and splash the watermelon juice out of them.
Kabzaa Movie Review: Script Analysis
You know, there are some films that test your patience to an extent where you just want all of it to end or at least the theatre to burn down, so the misery ends once and for all—precisely that. Kannada cinema, indeed has found itself in a very new light as we speak. KGF , Kantara, and 777 Charlie are shining examples. While not a fan of the Yash starrer, I agree it brings panache to the screen, which is why Rocky Bhai stands out and entertains. But it is a path carved for an entire industry, and the rest should march with a versatile product and not just end up rehashing what worked last.
Written by M Chandramouli and R. Chandru, Underworld Ka Kabzaa is literally a bunch of men gate-crashing a wonderful set every day and shooting narratives that will massage the ego of the evil inside them. Because nothing else explains the chaos and lack of story or structure to this movie that is, so hell-bent on celebrating toxicity all the time. It is just trying to multiply everything done in the last similar franchise with no nuance to it.
The attempt is to tell a story of a righteous and naive man going all evil and turning into a monster that the world dreads. To shape this we need to explore his world, his mind, and what he stood for. But instead, the film, with its zillion cuts and hammy editing focuses on how he fires bullets without even moving his fingers.
This world claims to be a very intense horrifying setup where you will be afraid of some character. But the writing never really allows that to happen because every single character is a spoof of every gangster you have ever seen in the Indian cinema. They are caricatures, one note, and if that is not helping you to drop your plan to watch this one, one of the villains played by Nawab Shah has ‘cruel’ tattooed on his face under his eye. Like it isn’t enough that he is dressed like a drag queen on a big ship under the burning sun, and he is just one of the villains; the rest are even more hilarious.
The movie doesn’t take anything seriously other than the never-ending weird moustaches of its multiple characters. That is not how you built gangsters, guys. The film tries to be clever when it builds an entire fictional town visually, and the production and VFX team even deliver. But nothing is era-appropriate. Everything is either too modern or too dated. Plus, if you build a jail with metal gates for security and show the police force securing it without knowing that their everyday enemy has a helicopter to fly in, you are making a joke out of yourself.
Also, whoever wrote the dialogues for the Hindi dub must be heavily fined for using Google translator. They are so verbose and so bad that half of them will make you laugh your guts out in the most serious situation. They use ‘Mahatvapurna’ and ‘Copy’ in the same line. What is this? Why are we watching it?
Kabzaa Movie Review: Star Performance
Every actor is told to mimic somebody, and you can see it. There is no attempt to build a unique gangster whose story we would want to trace. The common brief for men is that they will have to walk around slitting throats and cutting heads. And women, of which only two inconsequential exist in this universe are supposed to serve the fragile egos of the men around them.
Kichcha Sudeep, who has been used as the face for promotions, is literally a cameo. Upendra looks like he is forced to be here. All the villains are supposedly performing for their auditions in the Drag Race. Nothing else explains Nawab Shah’s obsession with his own cleavage.
Kabzaa Movie Review: Direction, Music
The direction, or the lack of it in Kabzaa is just unbearable. The visuals are unnecessarily gory and loud to an extent that you just want all of this to stop because it is too poorly done. Creating an edgy gangster drama is not just killing people as pass time and showing gallons of blood coming out of a slit throat. It is much more than that, and the directors need to know it.
Music is just too loud for anyone who has ears. The art, costume, and production department need to have a word with a therapist, though. Why is my glass of Rasna thicker than your blood? Who decided the characters’ looks, and did they think this was a circus-themed movie? Who supplied an extensive eye makeup to Shriya Saran in the desert where there is literally not even a sapling around her palace and no connect with the outer world at all? Why did you say yes to this job?
Also, whoever decided to black out the screen after every five minutes throughout the movie and multiple times during an action sequence on the edit table, please don’t ever even think of repeating that.
Kabzaa Movie Review: The Last Word
Kabzaa is a crash course on how not to make a gangster drama because everything about it is wrong.

Kabzaa Review – Unbearably Loud And Senseless
OUR RATING 1.5/5
CENSOR ‘UA’ Certified, 2h 16m
While so much drama is happening, Arkeshwara also has a childhood friend turned lover, Madhumati (Shriya). How the two aspects of Arkeshwara’s life collide forms the overall story.
Performances Upendra, known for his powerful acts, gets a Don role in typical commercial style in Kabzaa. He has the intensity to pull off the action, but the same can’t be said about the rest.
The love story doesn’t work due to Upendra’s age, even though there is age-appropriate casting. Apart from that, there is the issue of styling and attitude. The latter is always there, but it could have been better when it comes to the former.
The larger-than-life persona works despite the hiccups. But, the overall impact necessary for the part is missing due to the technical issues related to the script, direction and editing. Therefore, what could have been a memorable outing turns out to be another act for the Real Star.
Shriya plays Upendra’s love interest. Since it is presented in a mature way age-wise, and also the period set in place, she doesn’t look odd. However, her track does look out of place in the whole gangster drama and action that takes place. The old-world dialogues add to the agony. It takes away any little sheen the part possesses or the way Shriya carries it.
Analysis R Chandra writes and directs Kabzaa . It is a gangster drama set in post-Independence India with a strong hangover of the blockbuster KGF.
The opening happens on an ordinary note, but we get a hint at the movie’s many problems within those few minutes. The first thing that instantly registers is the dubbing quality. It is terrible. The second thing is the dialogue. The combined effect never lets one be immersed in the world created by the director.
The narrative further highlights the immediately visible issue. Kabazaa is one of the worst movies dubbing-wise in recent years, and it can’t be emphasised enough. It doesn’t allow the momentum to be built even in stretches where something engaging is happening.
Once we aren’t engaged with the proceedings, all sorts of issues with the story and the proceedings come to the fore. The editing, again heavily inspired by KGF movies, is an eyesore. The black fades are overdone. The action cutting from one sequence to other doesn’t add any excitement to the proceeding.
And finally, the story comes across as a mishmash of gangster movies made recently by Prashanth Neel (especially to outsiders). The various gangs, a single location, and a hero rising amidst them, followed by his rise and then threats from internal (police and political) and external forces (mafia heads), are all the elements that are seen recently and etched in people’s minds.
Resuing the same tropes as above, the colour scheme and background score make Kabzaa look like a second-hand embarrassment.
The second half is one long action block (until the end) accompanied by a loud background score. It is the quintessential senseless mass that has become a genre of its own off-late. However, the problem here is the senselessness is so much that it dominates the mass and drowns it. By the time of the climax, one is exhausted. There is an end indicating a sequel soon, but one hardly cares for it at that time and looks for the exit.
Overall, Kabzaa comes with a massive KGF movie hangover in style, making, background score and editing, so much so that it looks like a poor man’s version of it. But, it fails to engage and provide a clean narrative making it difficult to sit through. An easily avoidable fare even for action movie lovers.
Music and Other Departments? Ravi Basrur’s music is highly repetitive. The song’s failure to make an impression doesn’t come as a surprise, but the background score disappoints. It is too loud and bears a strong KGF hangover. The cinematography is decent, even if the resemblances can’t be ignored. The editing, too, follows a visual style that makes Kabzaa look like a clone. The writing is poor from the start and has nothing remarkable anywhere.

An unfortunate fate of any path-breaking film is that it ends up becoming the template for others to emulate and Kabzaa is a failed product that in an attempt to mimic Yash's KGF, ends up becoming a tiring affair that's devoid of emotions. The aesthetics and the high production value of KGF and the slick colour tone of the film played a huge part in making the film an earth-shattering success.
