• The Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation is awarded to inspire Hawaiian students to work for a Business career. Each recipient of the scholarship will receive $20,000 over four years (or a pro-rated amount over less). The AFCEA STEM Majors Scholarship is offered by AFCEA, an international organization for those in communications, electronics, and information technology for defense, homeland security, and intelligence communities. The scholarship offers $2,500 to undergraduates meeting certain eligibility requirements.

2. CyberCorps®: Scholarship for Service Program

The CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service Program , offered by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies, gives awards from $27,000 to $37,000 to students intending to serve in a cybersecurity role within the U.S. government for the length of their scholarship.

3. Edison Scholars Program

The Edison Scholars Program scholarship of $50,000 is offered to 30 high school seniors who wish to enter careers in the STEM fields, including computer and information systems. It is intended for those living in the service territory of Southern California Edison .

4. Generation Google Scholarship

The Generation Google Scholarship , offered by Google, is for computer science or computer engineering students. The amount is $10,000 for full-time students pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

5. ISC2 Undergraduate Scholarship

The ISC2 Undergraduate Scholarship is administered by the Center for Cyber Safety and Education. Up to 20 scholarships, from $1,000 to $5,000, are offered for those pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, information assurance, or a similar field.

6. Jiang Amel STEM Scholarship

Two high school seniors will get $4,000 each through the Jiang Amel STEM Scholarship , which is dedicated to supporting and encouraging young people who want to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, or math.

7. Rural Tech Fund Cyber Security Scholarship

The Rural Tech Fund Cyber Security Scholarship is awarded yearly to three students from rural communities in the United States. The award is $1,000 each, with the additional opportunity to take up to two courses from the SANS Technology Institute as well as two corresponding GIAC certification exams.

8. SMART Scholarship Program

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program (Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation) is funded by the Department of Defense. SMART scholars receive full tuition, annual stipends, internships, and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense after graduation.

9. BHW Group Women in STEM Scholarship

11. Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship

The Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship is a $500 grant for women pursuing careers in technology. It is awarded to one high school or college student.

12. ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship

The ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship is offered by a global security company. The two $10,000 scholarships are available to women pursuing their graduate or undergraduate degree and who are looking to begin a career in cybersecurity.

13. ISC2 Women’s Cybersecurity Scholarships

Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded, each between $1,000–$5,000, for women who are pursuing or plan to pursue a degree in cybersecurity, information assurance, or similar field.

14. Palantir Women in Technology Scholarship

The Palantir Women in Technology Scholarship is offered by a data analysis company. Scholarships are offered to women to enable them to pursue computer science, engineering, and technical studies. Awards are $7,000 each.

15. Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program

The Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program is for women studying in community college, undergraduate, or graduate programs for engineering, engineering technology, or computer science. Scholarship award amounts vary.

16. Women in Technology Scholarship (WITS)

Now in its 18th year, WITS has supported more than 169 women pursuing a degree in computer science, information management systems, or another IT-related field. The group Visionary Integration Professionals awards multiple scholarships that value up to $2,500 per recipient.

21. American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Aristocrat Scholarship

Informatics Global PhD Scholars will receive full financial support for the duration of their PhD studies, for up to 3 years. This will include:

• Full funding of all tuition fees, including overseas fees if applicable

• An annual stipend at the rate set by the UKRI (indicatively, stipend levels for 2023/24 are £18,662; amount TBC for September 2024 entry);

• An additional research support fund of £2,000 per year for the first three years. This can be used for a variety of purposes approved by your supervisor including, but not restricted to, purchase of a laptop, attending conferences where you present a paper, and specialist software or equipment.

Eligibility

Applicants who submit a programme application to one of the eligible Informatics PhD programmes will automatically be considered for this scholarship; there are no restrictions based on nationality or domicile . 

Applicants must have applied to study full-time on one of the following eligible programmes within the School of Informatics:

• PhD Informatics: AIAI: Automated Reasoning, Agents, Data Intensive Research, Knowledge Management
• PhD Informatics: ANC: Machine Learning, Computational Neuroscience, Computational Biology 
• PhD Informatics: LFCS: Foundations of Computer Science, Databases, Software & Systems Modelling
• PhD Informatics: ICSA: Comp. Architecture, Compilation & System Software, Networks & Communication
• PhD Informatics: IPAB: Robotics, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics and Animation
• PhD Informatics: I LCC: Language Processing, Speech Technology, Information Retrieval, Cognition 

Candidates must also meet certain minimum requirements for English language competency.

Candidates should be in receipt of, or expected to obtain, a high academic award from their most recent degree. In practice, this means a 1st class UK degree or a distinction at UK Masters level in a relevant discipline. Students with non-UK qualifications should check the   equivalence of their degrees .

Selection Procedure

Candidates who meet or are expected to meet the eligibility requirements will be reviewed by their selected research institute. This will normally involve an interview, which may take place in person or via video conference.

Successful candidates will receive notification of their scholarship, which may be conditional on candidates achieving the predicted qualifications.

Notification of decisions

Applicants who apply before the first and second round deadlines, and who are selected to receive an IGPS scholarship (or been placed on a reserve list), will be notified by Friday 23 February 2024 and Friday 22 March 2024 respectively. Applicants will be notified via the contact email address provided in their application form.

The doctoral program in Information Systems & Management at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College prepares students with a deep understanding of the technical and organizational aspects of information systems.

At Heinz, we live and work at the critical nexus of information technology and public policy. Our Ph.D. in Information Systems & Management was created to train scholars to conduct innovative research that cuts across disciplines in order to address significant challenges in IT theory, strategy, management, and design as it relates to business and policy settings. 

Heinz College Ph.D. students enjoy close partnerships with faculty as they explore the complex and exciting interconnectedness of information systems, public policy, and management. KEY RESEARCH AREAS

Doctoral students take on a broad range of topics and problems, but some key areas of strength at Heinz College include:

As technology enables most content to be digitized, it is also upending business models, competition, and policy needs. From electronic health records, to streaming music and videos, to online social networks, digitization is rapidly affecting every part of the user experience, generating new jobs, and displacing old ones. Our faculty is working on a variety of projects under this broad umbrella. Some major projects are examining the role of social networks, online piracy, digital distribution, impact of mobile, the role of online education, and so on. Faculty and students use variety of methods like field experiments, analytical and structural models to study these questions.

Michael D. Smith and Rahul Telang are world recognized experts on the media industry and copyright policies who also head the IDEA research center.

Beibei Li is an expert on social media, mobile marketing, and understanding individuals’ online and offline decision making. 

Pedro Ferreira works on how people use technology in media and education, and is an expert on running randomized experiments.

Ramayya Krishnan  applies operations research tools to a variety of problems in this domain.

Our world-renowned faculty extensively works with both private firms and policy makers.  

We have multiple research centers like  IDEA ,  LARC , and  iLab  which collect large quantities of data to examine these issues.

Growth of big data has offered opportunities for development and application of novel statistical and computational methods for solving societal problems such as crime, policing, fraud detection, health care and more. To be able to use this data requires cutting edge work on developing new methods and machine learning algorithms. Heinz College has some of the top faculty who work at the intersection of machine learning and public policy.

Some key faculty members working in this space are Leman Akoglu , George Chen , Jeremy Weiss , and David Choi . Each of them is working on problems that intersect the need to use Machine Learning method to solve critical societal problems.

We also offer a joint degree in Machine Learning and Public Policy.

Data security and privacy has increasingly become a complex issue that goes beyond mere technology. Faculty at Heinz College are working on understanding users’ security and privacy decisions using economics, behavioral economics, and data analytics frameworks. This leading edge research is at the forefront of designing better tools and better regulations.

Alessandro Acquisti is an expert on economics of privacy and has done path-breaking work in this space.

Rahul Telang ’s work illustrates that firms may not do enough to protect user data, and highlights how we should design our policies.

Leman Akoglu uses large-scale data to understand our security and privacy vulnerabilities.

This group also works closely with faculty from CyLab , an interdisciplinary research center. This work is highly influential, widely cited, and extensively funded.

This group's research is motivated by information technology's important role in improving health care for patients, hospitals, and doctors. Technology is extensively used in detecting outbreaks, in providing superior quality of care at lower costs, and in prevention of medical errors.

Rema Padman studies IT adoption in hospitals and physical practices. 

Rahul Telang studies the role of electronic health records.

Martin Gaynor is a world-renowned expert on health policy and examines how technology can help improve policy outcomes.

Amelia Haviland examines the role of insurance policies and how they affect patient welfare.

Ph.D. Curriculum

The pre-dissertation stage of the Ph.D. in Information Systems & Management is structured around two sets of requirements: coursework and preliminary papers.

Coursework is designed to build methodological skills, modeling competence, and substantive depth.

Preliminary papers illustrate your ability to produce effective research that exhibits your readiness to begin the dissertation.

• A three-semester   Ph.D. Seminar Series   focusing on the research process
• Two semesters of   Advanced Electives offering depth in specialized fields
• Quantitative Methods Cluster   of courses in statistics, econometrics, and machine learning
• Two semesters of coursework in   Social and Policy Sciences

Admission to candidacy means that all requirements of the Ph.D. program preliminary to the dissertation have been fulfilled. In addition to satisfying all coursework requirements, you must also meet the following research requirements:

• First- and second-year Research Papers meeting current Ph.D. requirements
• Dissertation focused on Information Systems topic as per judgment of Ph.D. committee

$17,580 is the most affordable PhD program option and it is available at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

$86,833 is the average cost of a cybersecurity PhD and is based on tuition rates from all 26 schools.

$197,820 is the most expensive cybersecurity PhD program and is available at Indiana University Bloomington.

The good news is that by the time students get to the PhD level there are a lot of funding options — including some graduate programs that are completely funded by the university or academic departments themselves.

Additionally, funding in the form of research grants and other kinds of scholarships is available for students interested in pursuing cybersecurity studies. 

One example is the CyberCorps: Scholarships for Service program. Administered by the National Science Foundation, PhD students studying cybersecurity are eligible for a $34,000 a year scholarship, along with a professional stipend of $6,000 to attend conferences in exchange for agreeing to work for a government agency in the cybersecurity space after the PhD program.

'U.S. News & World Report' ranked RIT’s Saunders College of Business among the best graduate programs in the nation.

Graduate degree programs at Rochester Institute of Technology were named among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.

In the U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools 2024 , RIT’s Saunders College of Business tied for 97th as one of the top full-time MBA programs .

New methodologies for ranking full-time MBA programs placed more emphasis on earnings. This ranking factor assessed how each school’s post-graduate salaries across different professions compared with other schools’ post-graduate salaries in those professions.

This change was made to account for the importance of compensation for prospective business school students, the varying vocational interests of students at different schools, and to more fully refine the impact business schools have on their graduates’ starting salaries.

U.S. News is delaying the publication of this year’s best engineering schools due to questions about new ranking indicators pertaining to bibliometric data. Concerns arose about the consideration of affiliated institutions in this area. Results for the best medical schools are also under review.

Typically, US News & World Report ranks annually graduate programs in six fields—business, education, engineering, law, medicine, and nursing to help prospective students make informed decisions. These data-driven rankings have been based on enrollment numbers, job placement rates, faculty statistics, and other indicators.

U.S. News also periodically ranks programs in 12 academic disciplines based on academic reputation. This year, RIT’s computer science MS program in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences tied 70th in the nation.

RIT programs ranked in prior years, based on peer assessment, remain tied:

• 65th for the health care management MS program offered by the College of Health Sciences and Technology;
• 78th for physics ( astrophysical sciences and technology Ph.D. program) offered by the College of Science;
• 188th for the physician assistant MS program offered by the College of Health Sciences and Technology .
• 6th for photography and 23rd among fine arts MFA program, offered in the College of Art and Design ; and
• 119th for the bioinformatics MS program offered by the College of Science.

Peer assessment data regarding the academic quality of programs came from deans, program directors, and senior faculty. U.S. News also surveyed professionals who hire or work with new graduates with degrees from the six disciplines ranked annually.
