What you’ll learn in an Ed.D. organizational leadership program

What is educational leadership and why is it important.

Educational leadership is the science of helping individuals achieve success through the management and improvement of educational programs. While it often refers to administrative positions within primary and secondary schools, as well as higher education, degrees in educational leadership can also provide skills to develop new solutions in any field. Continuing education is booming in corporate America, and chief learning officer (CLO) positions are an increasingly important and fast-growing position for graduates of doctorate of education (Ed.D.) programs. These programs help students build transformative leadership skills to spur initiative and foster change both in traditional educational and corporate work environments.

Ed.D. program requirements

Admission requirements.

Admission requirements can vary on a school-to-school basis, but generally include all or a combination of:

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree and oftentimes a master’s degree, as demonstrated by an official transcript released by the issuing college or university
  • A resume or curriculum vitae that emphasizes relevant work and experience
  • A personal statement that allows applicants to differentiate themselves from other candidates and explain their goals for completing a doctorate in education degree program
  • One or more letters of recommendation from supervisors, professors, alumni, or other professionals

Is a master’s degree required to get an Ed.D. in organizational leadership?

Degree prerequisites vary depending on each school and program, though typically, a master’s degree is needed prior to enrolling in an Ed.D. program. Some programs, like Vanderbilt University’s online Ed.D. program, don’t require a master’s degree—though it can often boost a candidate’s application.

Do you need to take the GRE for an Ed.D. in organizational leadership?

Like other program prerequisites, whether or not you need to take the GRE test (and submit your score) will depend on the institution. Among the eight Ed.D. programs on Fortune’s ranking, none of the schools require applicants to submit a GRE score. That said, a GRE score may be an application requirement for some universities and other Ed.D. program options that didn’t appear on Fortune’s ranking.

Frequently Asked Questions

An Ed.D is a doctorate in education , and it’s a program meant for individuals who hope to become leaders in their field—and it prepares students for administration or leadership positions in academics and beyond. The focus of these programs is to give students the skills to develop new solutions within the industry. Through coursework and collaboration among peers, students will be able to use what they learn and apply it to both their work and dissertation.

If you’re looking to make a difference in organizational leadership, and earn a higher salary—the answer is yes. A doctorate in education can teach students how to use resources available to them in efforts to combat institutional issues. What’s more, this degree program provides individuals with a professional network and a greater appreciation and deeper passion for the education industry. Additionally, applicants who are already working in the field will have the option to move up the ladder and achieve their career goals with an advanced degree.

The perspective gained by students enrolled in organizational Ed.D programs lends itself to multiple roles in the education industry, particularly leadership roles—that can mean becoming a university dean, a principal, or a superintendent. People beyond education may find value in this degree, as well, and it’s applicable in corporate roles such as a chief learning officer . A doctorate in education in organizational leadership is tailored to those who hope to lead effectively and ethically. A Nova Southeastern University Ed.D program professor told Fortune that the program’s goal is to make its lessons, assignments, and discussion relevant in the real world. Programs with a focus on organizational leadership give students the time and space needed to develop the resources to address challenges in their given industry, with the goal of finding long-lasting solutions.

How long it will take to earn a doctorate in education can depend on two things: Whether a student is full-time or part-time and whether the program is online. But of course, there are multiple factors that contribute to the length of time needed for different programs, like credits needed to graduate and specializations. Ed.D programs can generally take two to three years to complete; for example, Vanderbilt University’s Ed.D. program in leadership and learning is a three-year commitment.

While both a Ph.D and an Ed.D. are graduate degree paths that typically appeal to people who want to pursue careers in education, they have different purposes . An Ed.D is for people who want leadership positions in the education field, whereas a Ph.D really focuses on the study of education itself. Most students who earn a Ph.D in education go on to become professors. The options are wider with a doctorate in education, in that students can pursue leadership roles in both primary and secondary education.

Online Ed.D. programs offer accessibility and flexibility for those people looking to leadership roles in education or more broadly. By attending classes online, students can choose the institution and degree program that’s the best fit for them—while still obtaining transformative skills which can be utilized in corporate and traditional educational environments. Online programs can make the task of balancing school, a full-time job, and personal commitments more manageable, and can potentially save on cost.

Since an Ed.D. is similar to a traditional Ph.D., some programs do require a research-based project, typically fulfilled as a dissertation. However, some Ed.D. programs don’t require a dissertation at all, and other programs have shifted to alternative examination strategies, such as a capstone project or dissertation in practice (DiP). In addition to eliminating Ed.D. specializations, Johns Hopkins University is also moving to a choose-your-own-adventure style in which students present their work in a variety of formats beyond the traditional dissertation model.

Online Doctorate in Educational Leadership Programs Ranking Guidelines

We ranked these degree programs based on quality, curricula, school awards, rankings, and reputation.

Our Methodology

Here at TheBestSchools.org, we take the trust and welfare of our readers very seriously. When making our school and program rankings, our top priority is ensuring that our readers get accurate, unbiased information that can help them make informed decisions about online education. That's why we've developed a rigorous ranking methodology that keeps the needs of our readers front and center.

Our proprietary, multi-criteria ranking algorithm analyzes key data indicators — as collected by the federal government — for each school or program. What data we use depends on the focus of each specific ranking, but in all cases, our ranking methodology is impartial: Schools  cannot buy better rankings  at TBS.

While specific criteria under consideration can vary by ranking, there are a few data points that we value most highly. They are affordability, academic quality, and online enrollment. Below, we break down our algorithm to help you understand what you're getting when you use one of our rankings.

  • Affordability
  • Online Enrollment

Data Sources

The data used in TBS rankings comes primarily from the federal government, and much of it is provided by the schools themselves. We aggregate and analyze this data to build our rankings.

The  Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System  (IPEDS) is our primary source. Its data comes from annual surveys conducted by the U.S. Department of Education's  National Center for Education Statistics  (NCES). Every college, university, or technical school with access to federal financial aid must participate in these surveys, which include questions about enrollment, graduation rates, finances, and faculty qualifications. This is publicly available data, which you can access yourself through the  College Navigator .

Additionally, because we value a personal touch and the professional experience of our staff and Academic Advisory Board, we vet all results and adjust rankings as necessary based on our collected knowledge of schools and degree programs. Depending on the ranking, we may obtain additional input from  AcademicInfluence.com , subject matter experts, prior TBS ranking lists, or other sources we deem relevant to a particular ranking.

Breakdown of Our Rankings Methodology

About our ranking factors.

Here at TBS, we value what you value: quality education, affordability, and the accessibility of online education. These factors guide all of our program rankings.

Each of these factors are further broken down into weighted subfactors. For example, retention rates are weighted more heavily than availability of program options because they are a better indicator of student success.

We chose the following factors for our rankings because of their influence on learning experiences and graduate outcomes. However, students should always balance our rankings against their personal priorities. For instance, a learner who needs a fully online program may prioritize online flexibility more than our rankings do. Our rankings are designed to help you make a decision — not to make a decision for you.

  • Collapse All

Academics - 75%

Affordability - 15%, online enrollment - 10%.

In all our school rankings and recommendations, we work for objectivity and balance. We carefully research and compile each ranking list, and as stated in our advertising disclosure, we do NOT permit financial incentives to influence rankings. Our articles never promote or disregard a school for financial gain.

If you have questions about our ranking methodology, please feel free to connect with our staff through  contact page .

We thank you for your readership and trust.

Types of Doctorate in Educational Leadership Online Programs

Types of Doctorate in Educational Leadership Online Programs

There are two doctoral degrees for Educational Leadership.

Though similar, they are designed to support different professional goals.

Earning a PhD is generally for those who either want to conduct research in the field or who want to teach at the university level.

As a researcher, you may conduct studies on educational practices and theories to better inform professionals in the field. Your curriculum can help prepare you to carry out accurate studies and present non-biased findings. This career path may involve quite a bit of professional writing, so your courses may also help you hone your writing skills.

For those who want to teach in a university setting, your course of study can help inform you of the latest research findings and teaching techniques to utilize and pass on to your students. It can also help you prepare to take up a leadership position in your department.

This degree, on the other hand, is for those who want to lead educational institutions. Your workplace could be anything from a preschool to an elementary school to a high school to a university. You might also work at a vocational training facility, a military training program, or for a specific business teaching employees how to better perform their jobs.

Your course of study will likely focus on the latest research in the field and how to conduct your own studies so that you can make informed decisions for your institution. You may also have the opportunity to upgrade your own teaching skills.

If you’d like to step into an administrative role, this may be the online education degree for you.

Differences Between a PhD and an EdD in Educational Leadership

group of professionals in a meeting

The difference between earning a PhD and a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership is the career path that the course of study prepares you for. PhD students generally seek tenure as professors at university-level institutions, while EdD graduates usually enter the professional field via administrative and managerial opportunities .

Salaries are not guaranteed and depend heavily on academic performance, work experience, location, and other factors. That being said, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), both variations of this post-graduate community stand to garner more than adequate compensation.

PhD graduates often start off as professors, eventually moving into the role of dean of students and other leadership positions. EdD students usually end up serving as high school principals, district superintendents, and other high ranking administrators.

What Financial Aid Opportunities Are Available for Educational Leadership Students?

screenshot of the Graduate pdf

The first step to determining what financial aid you qualify for is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) . Yes, the federal government does have money set aside for graduate students, not just undergrads.

You should also look into scholarships and fellowships at your university, as well as scholarships from private organizations and tuition reimbursement programs from your employer.

Questions Related to Earning Your Doctorate in Educational Leadership

Here are our answers to a few more questions you might have about PhD, EdD, and EdS programs.

What Is a PhD in Educational Leadership?

A PhD in Educational Leadership is a terminal degree designed for those who want to teach or conduct research at the university level. Earning the right to join the rest of the graduates from an Educational leadership PhD cohort usually requires the completion of 60 graduate-level credit hours. Fieldwork, internships, and other practical training often serve as part of this credit-hour requirement.

Those who plan on researching and teaching others about the latest trends and developments in educational leadership are the most likely individuals to pursue this degree. Like other PhD programs, demonstrating expertise in this field can serve as a stepping stone toward a career in academia.

How Long Does It Take to Get a PhD in Educational Leadership?

Most Educational Leadership PhD programs take 3 years to complete, plus the time you need to write a dissertation. There are some programs, however, designed to take less time.

An EdD degree usually takes 1-2 years and may or not require a dissertation.

What Can I Do with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership?

Depending on which type of degree you get (PhD vs EdD), you might take up an administrative role at an educational institution starting from daycare centers all the way up to universities, continue teaching, or move into research. See the lists above for some more ideas of career paths.

Is an Educational Specialist Degree a Terminal Degree?

Yes, an Education Specialist, or EdS degree, is a terminal degree. As a professional degree, however, it is not ranked as highly as a PhD or EdD. Consider your career goals to determine which degree is right for you.

Is a PhD in Educational Leadership Worth It?

Yes, a PhD in Educational Leadership is worth it for many students. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is projecting 5% job growth in education, training, and library occupations over the next 10 years. Common careers in this field include university president, academic dean, and program director.

Is an ED D Worth It?

Yes, an EdD is worth it for many professionals. Education, training, and library jobs are expected to grow at a rate of 5%, faster than average for all jobs, over the next 10 years (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Common careers in this sector include school superintendent, high school principal, and department chair.

Take Your Education to the Next Level!

someone graduating with a doctoral degree

The first is to determine which Educational Leadership doctoral degree matches your career goals. If you see yourself teaching in a university or researching educational practices, a PhD is probably the right path. If you’d rather serve in an administrative role, you might be better off with an EdD.

After you determine which degree is the best fit for you, you should look at which schools offer the concentration you’re most interested in. Apply to 3-5 universities and begin researching financial aid opportunities. In 1-3 years, you may have your terminal education degree.

Program Overview

The Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership online (EDL online) program prepares you to be a critically conscious leader equipped with strategic thinking, evidence-based research skills, and the ability to create equity and foster continuous organizational improvement. The online program offers four concentrations: K-12 Leadership in Urban School Settings, Leading Instructional Change, Higher Education Administration, and Educational Psychology.

Through this program, you will:

  • Earn a doctorate recognized by employers in the field of education.
  • Be able to maintain a full-time work schedule while taking two courses one night a week.
  • Learn alongside a cohort of experienced educational professionals nationwide.

America needs transformative leaders in preK–12 education whose passion for education quality and equity is matched by a knowledge of learning and development, the organizational management skills to translate visionary ideas into practical success, and a firm grasp of the role of context and politics in shaping leadership. Graduates of the three-year, multidisciplinary Doctor of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education will be prepared to become those leaders.

The Ed.L.D Program — taught by faculty from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the Harvard Business School, and the Harvard Kennedy School — will train you for system-level leadership positions in school systems, state and federal departments of education, and national nonprofit organizations. Ed.L.D. is a full-time, three-year program built on a cohort learning model. Cohorts consist of up to 25 students from diverse professional backgrounds (including district/charter management leaders, nonprofit directors, principals, teachers, and policy researchers) who progress through the program together.

All Ed.L.D. students receive a full tuition funding package plus stipends, work opportunities, and a paid third-year residency at a partner organization.

The Ed.L.D. Program prepares graduates to do work for the public good in the American public education sector, whether that be at the system or state level. Specifically, the program is designed to accelerate the progress graduates make toward achieving meaningful impact in influential roles and/or crossing boundaries in the following spaces in the public education sector:

  • PreK–12 district or CMO leadership roles : superintendent of schools, chief academic officer, and/or deputy superintendent
  • Foundation/philanthropy roles:  director, president and CEO, senior fellow
  • Education nonprofit roles : president or executive director of backbone or collective impact organizations which support preK–12 schools. Ed.L.D. graduates will lead education nonprofits that explicitly focus on improving outcomes and opportunities for children, families, and communities.
  • State or federal education leadership roles : commissioner or deputy commissioner roles. Could also include public education advocacy or education policy advisers to senior government officials.
  • Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation roles:  Founder, CEO, president

Curriculum Information

The Ed.L.D. curriculum is a balance of multidisciplinary coursework and practice-based learning. Core courses and electives are taught by recognized leaders from across Harvard’s graduate programs in fields like data-based education reform, organizational change and innovation, and effective leadership strategies for urban schools. You will develop and test your leadership skills through team projects and an immersive third-year residency.

All students in the cohort take the same classes in four foundational content areas: learning and teaching, leadership and organizational change, politics and policy, adult development, and leadership inside and out (including one-on-one executive coaching). Courses taken during the first-year focus on practice-based learning and serve as the framework of your first-year experience.

Each cohort member works with program advisers to choose an individualized sequence of electives from any of the Harvard graduate schools. You will work closely with the program faculty and staff during your second year to determine the best match with a partner organization for your third-year residency. Matches are driven by mutual interest between the resident and the partner organization, and each student's career and learning goals and geographic preferences.

You will take part in a 10-month paid residency at one of our partner organizations. There, you will work on a strategic project which synthesizes your experience and learning into a written Capstone project. You will stay connected to your Ed.L.D. cohort and HGSE through technology and by returning to Harvard periodically for intensive workshops.

Paid Residency

Our partner organizations include school systems and departments of education, as well as some of the nation's most influential and dynamic nonprofit, mission-based for-profit, and philanthropic organizations.

You will be intentionally pushed out of your comfort zones and asked to work systemically and make a significant contribution to the partner organization. In addition, the residency will provide you with the professional mentoring, practical experiences, and network of connections they need to position themselves as future leaders in the education sector.

Strategic Project

You will define (with supervisors from your partner organization) a strategic project on which to focus. You will have the opportunity to lead one or two major efforts on behalf of the organization, such as the creation or implementation of current initiatives. The project allows you to practice and improve leadership skills, add important value to the mission and strategy of the partner organization, work systemically, and hold high-level accountability.

During the residency period, you will produce a written Capstone. The Capstone is a descriptive, analytic, and reflective account of your third-year leadership contributions to a strategic project within an Ed.L.D. partner organization. It is a demonstration of your ability to engage others, develop strategy to successfully address and diagnose challenges, work toward a vision and goals, and learn from the results.

How is the third third-year residency determined? Will I get to choose where I go and for whom I work?

You will work closely with Ed.L.D. Program faculty during your second year to determine the best partner organization match for your third-year residency. In ascertaining a match, faculty take a number of factors into account, including a students' career goals and geographic preferences. The program expects that the current list of partners will continue to grow based on organizational and student interest.

The Ed.L.D. Program has partnered with organizations that are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in American preK–12 education. The partners are school systems, nonprofit organizations, mission-based for-profit organizations, and government agencies, all pursuing a common goal of ensuring that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. You will work directly with partner organizations in the third-year residency and have some exposure to partner representatives in the first two years of the program. Your work with our partner organizations will be encapsulated in a Capstone, which is descriptive, analytic, and reflective account of the your leadership and contributions to a strategic project. Summaries of Capstones by several members of the first cohort of Ed.L.D. graduates are available in the curriculum section.

If you are looking to advance your career in education, you might want to consider a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. This degree can help you take on leadership roles in educational institutions, from K-12 and up.

Getting a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership can be time-consuming and complicated. Thankfully, there is an alternative that can help you reduce the complexity. An online degree. An online Ph.D. offers the same benefits as offline doctorates. You can use this opportunity to juggle several commitments while studying in the comfort of your own home.

The key to getting the studying experience you want is choosing the right program. Let’s take a closer look at getting a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership online.

Why Get an Online Ph.D. in Educational Leadership

Getting a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership requires a comprehensive approach to studies. Many students who plan to get this degree already work in the educational niche. They want to improve their knowledge and get a chance to work in leadership positions.

After completing the Ph.D. program, you will be able to find real-world applications for your research findings. You may have a chance to share new teaching methods with your existing team. Some Ph.D. holders contribute to the improvement of their local community. Meanwhile, others take their research to the national level.

The majority of online Ph.D. programs in Educational Leadership take between two and five years to complete. Some universities may be willing to let you study longer if, for a legitimate reason, you can’t complete the education on time. Many programs also require a capstone or practicum before graduation.

While getting a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, you will be exploring evidence-based practice (also called research-based practice).

Evidence-based practice is a methodology based solely on evidence. Besides accepting teaching practices as they have been used for many years, students question their viability and efficiency. During your studies, you will take these practices and test them in new environments to gather evidence. This evidence can either confirm the methods’ viability or demonstrate their inability to meet the new century’s requirements.

With evidence-based methodology under your belt, you will be able to change curricula, reorganize subject matters, and create a brand-new atmosphere in the classroom. The goal is to streamline the educational process in the most effective way possible.

Things to Consider When Choosing to Get Your Ph.D. in Educational Leadership Online

Earning a Ph.D. online is a convenient way to combine professional and personal commitments. However, this choice comes with several nuances that you have to consider.

Online studies allow you to choose your own pace. You don’t have to come to the campus every morning and leave every afternoon. You can decide when to start listening to recorded lectures and when to conduct your research.

While this sounds highly convenient, it could pose a problem to someone who has never studied on their own before. It’s especially hard when you need to pace other commitments to achieve your studying goals.

If you aren’t sure that you can set an effective pace, consider choosing a program with set lecture hours. Instead of watching recorded materials, you can attend online lectures and meetings according to the schedule. This can provide the much-needed structure for your studies.

Not all online Ph.D. programs are created equal. Many of them prefer to add offline requirements. For example, you may need to attend the campus once every week, month, or semester. While this doesn’t seem like a lot of effort, it prevents you from choosing a faraway location. Unless you are willing to travel regularly, you may be limited by the schools available in your area.

Make sure to check the offline requirements before applying to the online program. Many universities aren’t always straightforward about this issue. You may want to do some research to make sure you know as much as you can about the program’s structure and schedule.

The cost of online Ph.D. programs is rarely lower than the costs of their offline counterparts. Accordingly, if the school offers both offline and online Ph.D. in Educational leadership, the cost of these programs is likely to be the same.

Take the time to explore financial aid options at the school of your choice. Some universities offer multiple opportunities to save money on your studies. If the cost is an issue, you may want to check how schools of your choice are willing to help.

On the bright side, the cost of online studies is often lower than the offline alternative, However, this doesn’t have anything to do with the tuition. You can spend less money on food and transportation while avoiding the costs of moving to another location.

Elements to Consider When Choosing an Online Ph.D. Program

Before you fill out an application and send your documents to the schools of your choice, you have to do some research. Questions to answer before contacting the admissions committee include:

When a qualified body gives accreditation to the university, it means that this school provides high-quality education to its students. When you search for a job after getting your Ph.D., the employer is highly likely to check the school’s accreditation. The right accreditation shows employers that the university meets high educational standards.

Admissions requirements vary from school to school. You may be asked to demonstrate or provide:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Statement of purpose or personal statement
  • Letters of recommendation (usually 2 or 3)
  • Official transcripts from previous academic institutions
  • Curriculum vitae (CV) or resume
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores
  • English language proficiency test scores (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS) for international students
  • Research proposal or research statement
  • Interview (in some cases)

While some admissions requirements may seem strict, this isn’t always the case. When it comes to Ph.D. programs, many schools are willing to reduce these requirements if they see that a student is a valuable asset. This means that even if you have a lower than required GPA or GRE score, you can compensate by relevant work experience or an in-depth personal statement.

The quality of the program is the most important element to consider. Before making the final decision, you need to check the university’s reputation. Besides conducting in-depth research online, you may want to speak to the alumni. They can give you the best evaluation of the pros and cons of the program.

Don’t hesitate to contact the school’s representative and ask relevant questions. While some universities willingly share immense amounts of information on their websites, others keep it short. Don’t rely solely on online research. Make sure to speak to alumni, current students, and maybe even professors in person.

Online students often don’t have direct access to many resources that offline students usually use. That’s why you have to find out how online students are supported by the faculty.

  • Will you get access to online library resources?
  • How many faculty members will be providing support and guidance?
  • How often will online meetings with mentors be arranged?
  • Will students be provided with access to the necessary e-learning software?

Always keep in mind that online students need more support. Try to choose a program that’s tailored to your online studying needs.

You probably already have an idea of how to take advantage of the online Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. Find out if the program you choose provides the necessary knowledge to help you advance your career.

Ideally, consider speaking to the graduates of the program. Alternatively, a school may be keeping success records of their students. Find out how many of them managed to fill the leadership roles you are thinking about.

Uog doctoral program set to launch in fall 2024.

Left, President Anita Borja Enriquez, Right, Dean Alicia Aguon

The University of Guam announces that it has received approval from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)   to begin offering its first ever online doctoral program — a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional and Academic Leadership.

The new EdD program emphasizes development of the “scholar-practitioner” who will integrate their professional experiences with research and theory to improve educational practices within their cultural contexts and to influence change in their educational and organizational settings.

“UOG was founded as a teaching college in 1952 and has since developed tremendous capacity for teachers, counselors, and school administrators for our island and region,” said Anita Borja Enriquez, UOG President. "This new doctoral program is our commitment to advancing education, elevating the focus on research agendas relevant to our region, and addressing improvement to instructional areas and overall educational leadership."

School of Education Dean Alicia Aguon noted that the new doctorate responds to the needs of educators and school systems across the region.

“Our survey had nearly a thousand respondents including alumni, education professionals, and stakeholders throughout Micronesia, and overwhelmingly, there was a stated need for a program geared toward instructional and academic leadership,” said Aguon. “This doctoral program is groundbreaking as it has been developed with a cultural competency unique to our region.”

The School of Education will begin accepting applications to the doctoral program this summer with its first courses starting this October. UOG will release more details in the coming weeks about information sessions and the application timeline.

“This isn’t just a milestone for UOG, it’s a milestone for education across the region,” said Enriquez “I am thrilled to see the meaningful, diverse conversational and collaborative synergies unfold from our inaugural cohort.”

Overview of the Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional and Academic Leadership

  • The dissertation is built in as coursework in the program of study.

Lynn University’s graduate education program ranked by U.S. News & World Report

Professor Jennifer Lesh and student collaborating in a masters of education class.

Lynn University’s graduate education program has been recognized as one of the top programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in their 2024  Best Graduate Schools rankings.

Lynn’s  Donald E. and Helen L. Ross College of Education  offers two distinguished graduate degree tracks:  educational leadership  and  exceptional student education  (ESE). The master’s in educational leadership is a one-year online program, whereas the Florida Department of Education-certified ESE specialization is available for completion on campus, online or via a hybrid format—ideal for working professionals who aspire to leadership positions in education.

“The College of Education faculty is extremely pleased and proud to be recognized among some of the nation’s best colleges and universities,” said Kathleen Weigel, dean of the College of Education. “Our graduate students continue to utilize their educational experiences and knowledge to positively impact and improve their respective environments for the good of the children and communities they serve.”

This recognition underscores Lynn’s commitment to providing accelerated, convenient, and affordable education while preparing future education leaders to excel in their careers and contribute meaningfully to society. U.S. News also ranked Lynn in its  Best Online Programs lists for bachelor’s programs, graduate education and MBA programs earlier this year.
