क्रिसमस इर्साईहरुको सबैभन्दा ठूलो पर्व हो । इर्साई समुदायको मानिस यस पर्वलाई धेरै धूमधाम र उल्लासको साथ मनाउछन् । यो पर्व हरेक वर्ष २५ डिसेम्बरको मनाउने गरिन्छ । यही दिन प्रभु इसा मसीह जीसस क्राइस्टको जन्म भएको थियो ।

जीसस क्राइस्ट एक महान व्यक्ति थिए र उनीले समाजलाई माया र मानवियताको शिक्षा दिए । उनले दुनियाको मानिसहरुलाई प्रेम र भाईचाराको साथ रहनलाई सन्देश दिएका थिए । यिनलाई इश्वरको एक्लो प्यारो पुत्र मान्ने गरिन्छ । त्यस समयको शासकहरुको जीससको सन्देश मन परेको थिएन उनीहरुले जीससको सूलीमा झुण्डाएर मारेका थिए । यस्तो मान्यता छ कि जीसस पुनः बाँची उठेका थिए ।

क्रिसमसको दिन इर्साई मानिस आफनो घरलाई मज्जाले सजाउँछन् । क्रिसमसको तयारीहरु पहिलेदेखि नै हुन थाल्छ । लगभग एक हप्ता सम्म छुट्टी रहन्छन् । बजारहरुको रौनक बढछ । घर र बजार रंगीन रोशनीहरुले जगमगाइ उठछन् ।

चर्चमा विशेष प्रार्थनाहरु हुन्छ । मानिस आफनो नातेदारहरु एवं मित्रहरु सँग मिल्नेउनको घर जान्छन् । सबै एक अर्कोको उपहार दिन्छन् । यस दिन आंगनमा क्रिसमस ट्री लगाउने गरिन्छ । इसलाई विशेष सजाउने गरिन्छ । यस पर्व मा केकलाई विशेष महत्व छ । मीठो, मनमोहन केक काटेर खिलानेको परम्परा धेरै पुरानो है । मानिस एक अर्कोको केक खिलाकर पर्व की बधाई दिन्छन् । सांताक्लाजको भेष लगाएर व्यक्ति बच्चाहरुको टफी उपहार आदि बाँटछन् ।

Yinalair isvarako eklo pyaro putra manne garinchha. Tyasa samayako sasakaharuko jisasako sandesa mana pareko thiyena uniharule jisasako sulima jhuṇdaera marek thiye. Yasto manyata chha ki Jesus Christ punah banchi uthek thiye.

Christmas ko dinar isai manis aphano Gharlai majjale sajaunchhan. Christmas ko tayariharu pahile dekhi nai huna thalchha. Lagabhaga ek hapta samma chhutti rahanchhan. Bajaraharuko raunak badhachha. Ghar ra bajara raṅgina rosaniharule jagamagai uthachhan.

Church ma visesa prarthanaharu hunchha. Manis aphano natedaraharu evaṁ mitraharu sanga milneunako Ghar janchhan. Sabai ek arkoko upahara dinchhan. Yas din anganama Christmas tri lagaune garinchha. Isalai visesa sajaune garinchha. Yasa parva ma cakealai visesa mahatva chha. Mitho, manamohana cake kater khilaneko parampara dherai purano hai. Manis ek arkoko cake khilakara parva ki badhai dinchhan. Santaklajako bhesa lagaera vyakti bachchaharuko taphi upahara adi bantachhan.

Yasto bhanine garinchha ki santaklaja rsvarga bat auchha ra manisharuko manachahi chijaharu upaharako rupama diera janchha.

Christmas is the greatest festival for Christians after Easter. It is celebrated throughout the world with joy and happiness. It is celebrated on the 25th of December, the day when Jesus Christ was born. A public holiday has been declared in Nepal so that Christians can celebrate it happily.

Jesus Christ was the person who tried to divert people towards love and affection. The principle of Christ was "Love, even the enemies. Be kind to everyone, even if they hate you. " This festival started in the memory of Christ—the super human who was born in 1 AD in Jordan.

On Christmas Day, people pray to God. Everybody takes part in the celebration. They decorate their houses with flowers and Christmas trees. They sing special hymns (carols). They also make the churches cleaner. People, especially kin, exchange their gifts of love. They eat delicious meals. Children become much happier on this day because they receive many things from Santa Claus.

To sum up, Christmas is the symbol of love and kindness. So, it should be observed until people love people.

‘ Christmas ’ is the celebration, a holiday, which is observed on 25 th of December every year, that is on the month of Poush according to the nepali calendar . It in the occasion of birth of Lord Jesus Christ. It is celebrated by billions of people all over the world, by all the people following Christianity, and by a massive number of non-Christians as well. The Christmas Day is a public holiday in most of the countries. The Christmas Tree and Santa Claus form a part of Christmas celebration in present days, along with light, joy, gifts and fiestas.

The Europeans had been celebrated light and birth in the darkest days of Winter, even before the birth of Jesus Christ, which happens to be similar to the days which is celebrated as Christmas Day now. The end of December was the perfect time for them to celebrate, as most of the cattle were slaughtered, and they had enough wine and meat. The trend continued for centuries, till the birth of Jesus Christ was widely known, and the day actually started being celebrated as Christmas. The exact birth of Jesus Christ, however, was disputed in itself, and many of the Eastern Christians used to celebrate in January 6 th , till some evidences showed the date to be 25 th December. Only from the 3 rd Century, 25 th December became the date for the Christians to celebrate the day as Christmas, which continues till now. The ways to celebrate the festival in Europe was widely changed in the 17 th century AD, when several invasions took place. In USA, the Christmas was not much popular till the 19 th century.

People in the ancient days believed that the plants or trees which remain evergreen all over the year helped to keep them away from evils, ghosts, bad spirits or illness. The pine, fir, or spruce trees were most common among them, and they used to hang the evergreen bough in their doors and windows. The trend continued to develop, which was later started to called as ‘Christmas Tree’. Nowadays, several artificial Christmas Trees are manufactured and millions of Christmas Trees are sold all over the world, in the festival.

Santa Claus

The history of Santa Claus dates back to 3 rd century AD. According to the legends, in 280 AD, there was a monk called St. Nicholas, who lived in Patara, which these days lies in Turkey. He was widely admired for his pity and kindness, as he gave away all his inherited wealth and travelled across the country helping the poor and the needy. His popularity spread all over the world later, also evolving his Dutch name Sinter Klaas to Santa Claus, and now is one of the basic aspects of Christmas. Nowadays, Santa Claus is mostly dressed in red hood, along with a red Santa cap, and is believed to bring gifts to the people, and is loved mostly by the children.

Christmas is a Christian festival. But, apart from Christian faith, the festival is celebrated as festival of lights and gift-giving by people of other faiths. Youths in particular are more excited in the time as another excuse to have fun and entertainment. People visit places, go to restaurant and hang-out to celebrate the festival season. Family festivity, like other festivals, is not seen much in Nepal on Christmas.

Most of the people in Nepal are Hindu. But, the population of people with Christian faith are increasing. There are reports that the population of Christian in Nepal may be up to 1 Million.

The shops and malls are decorated in Christmas theme in the festival time. Apart from Christmas, as the festival is closer to English new year, people celebrate it as an extension of the New Year celebration too.

Today Is Christmas: Nepalese Christian Community Observe Christmas Across Nepal

Nepalese christian community observe christmas across nepal, new spotlight online.

Nepal is celebrating Christmas, the greatest festival of Christians, with much fanfare, throughout the country today. It is celebrated to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, on December 25.

The festival has been recognized as a national festival since 2007, and even non-Christians celebrate it with a lot of zeal.

Colorfully decorated Christmas trees and well-decorated shops and malls are seen in Thamel, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Pokhara among other places, on the occasion.

The government has announced a national holiday to celebrate the festival today.

On occasion, Christians visit churches and exchange gifts with family and friends. The King of Rome Constantine started the celebration of the festival in 350 AD.

Meanwhile, President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and main opposition party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba have extended their heartfelt Christmas greetings to all Nepali Christians living at home and abroad, wishing them for peace, happiness, prosperity, good health, unity, brotherhood and progress.

“May this festival strengthen the feelings of love and unity among Nepali people and inspire all to implement the Constitution of Nepal for peaceful and prosperous Nepal,” President Bhandari said in a message.

Trees are decorated with bells, stars, reindeers, gift boxes, and many other decorations. The Christmas trees are lit up with twinkling lights. People attend services in the church at midnight. In the morning people visit the houses of friends and convey their best wishes. Gifts are being exchanged. In the evenings the Christian homes host special Christmas feasts. The feast comprises roasted chicken, vegetable salad and other Nepali foods along with turkey, pumpkin pies and Christmas puddings. The foods and celebrations depend upon the status of people, however, all celebrate the birth of Lord Jesus with zeal and enthusiasm.

फ्याफुल्ला !!! पाठक वृन्दहरू, आज, माघ शुक्ल प्रतिपदा, नेपालमा रहेका विभिन्न समुदायहरू  मध्येका एक “तामांङ्ग” जातीय समूहको एक महत्त्वपूर्ण चाड / पर्व ल्होसार / ल्होसार को दिन हो। देश विदेशमा छरिएर रहेका सम्पूर्ण तामांङ्ग समुदाय तथा हरेक नेपालीलाई यस पर्वको नेपाली पात्रो को तर्फ बाट हार्दिक शुभ-कामना!!!! ।  “ल्हो”  को शाब्दिक अर्थ “वर्ष” वा “उमेर हुन्छ भने “सार” को अर्थ “नयाँ “वा “ताजा” हो। तसर्थ, ल्होसार शब्दको शाब्दिक अर्थ नयाँ वर्ष वा नयाँ युगको सुरुवात हो। तामांङ्ग समुदायले मनाउने यस सोनाम ल्होसार पर्व, विक्रम सम्बत क्यालेन्डर वा पात्रो अनुसार माघ शुक्ल प्रतिपदाको दिनमा मनाउने गरिन्छ।  

यस चाडलाई नेपालमा सोनाम ल्होसार / लोसार र भारतको सिक्किम, दार्जिलिङ आदी स्थानहरूमा “सोनाम ल्होछार” को नामबाट चिनिन्छ जहाँ लामो समयदेखि तामांङ्ग समुदायहरू बसोबास गर्दै आएका छन्। यो चाड कुनै कुनै वर्ष विक्रम सम्बत पात्रोले कसरी दिनको व्याख्या गर्दछ त्यसमा निर्भर हुने हुँदा कुनै वर्ष माघ शुक्ल प्रतिपदाकै दिन नपर्न पनि सक्छ, जसको कारण यो चाड भारत र नेपालमा समेत पनि फरक दिनमा मनाइने हुन सक्ने सम्भावना  रहन्छ। छोटकरीमा भन्नु पर्दा, पुरानो वर्षको बिदाइ र नयाँ वर्षको अभिवादन लाई नै ल्होसार वा लोसार भनिन्छ।

सोनाम ल्होसार तामांङ्ग समुदायको सबैभन्दा महत्त्वपूर्ण र सबैभन्दा ठुलो उत्सव हो। यो पर्व नेपालका कुनाकाप्चा मा बस्ने तामांङ्ग समुदाय सहित विश्व भरि छरिएर रहेका तामांङ्ग समुदायले ठुलो आस्था र हर्षोल्लास का साथ मनाउने गर्दछन्। तामांङ्ग समुदायले  वर्ष गणना गर्ने आफ्नै परम्परा छ, जुन विभिन्न १२ जनावरहरूको प्रतीकहरूसँग सम्बन्धित हुन्छ, जसको  गणना मुसा बाट सुरु भएर  बँदेलमा समाप्त हुन्छ। 

ल्होसारको  परम्परा:  

तामांङ्गहरूले आफ्नो वर्षलाई १२ महिना वा चक्रमा विभाजन गर्ने गर्दछन्, र, प्रत्येक जनावरले एक राशिफलको प्रतीक वा प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दछ। यसले नयाँ सालको महिनाहरूको चिनारी क्रमलाई पनि अनुसरण गर्दछ र यो पनि भनिन्छ कि लामो समय पहिले जब नेपालमा कुनै पात्रो थिएन तब उनीहरूले १२ राशिको प्रतीक प्रणाली व्यक्तिको उमेर गणना गर्न समेत प्रयोग गर्ने  गर्दथे।

अन्य विभिन्न समुदाय वा देशहरूमा जस्तै तामांङ्गहरूले पनि आफ्नो नयाँ वर्षको चाडलाई अर्थात् ल्होसार लाई ठुलो खुसी र धार्मिक चाडपर्वका रूपमा मनाउँदछन्, जुन स्थान र सामाजिक स्थितिको आधारमा सामान्यतया कम्तीमा पाँच दिनदेखि अधिकतम पन्ध्र दिनसम्म मनाउने गरिन्छ।

ल्होसारको तयारीको रूपमा, यस समुदायले नयाँ वर्षलाई स्वागत गर्न आ- आफ्नो घर सफा गर्ने र सजावट गर्ने गर्दछन्। अरु समुदायहरूले झैँ आफ्नो परम्परामा अनुसार तामांङ्ग समुदायका मानिसहरूले पनि नयाँ लुगाहरू किन्ने, आ -आफ्ना जीवन स्तर अनुसार घरको साज सज्जा गर्ने गर्छन्। त्यसै गरी घरका झ्याल, ढोका हरू आर्थिक अवस्थाले सके सम्म रङ्ग रोगन गर्छन् भने नसकेको खण्डमा रङ्गिन कागजात र कपडाहरूले “राम्रो भाग्य”, “खुसी”, “धन”, र “दीर्घायु” को कामना रहित विभिन्न वस्तुहरूले घर इत्यादि सजाउने चलन समेत रही आएको छ। ल्होसारको अवसरमा आफन्तहरूलाई खाना खान बोलाउने, सबै छर- छिमेक सँगै मिलीजुली, स-परिवार गक्षले भ्याए सम्म राम्रो मिठो खानपिन गरी नयाँ वर्ष को आगमनमा खुसी हुने चलन रही आएको छ।

घरका छानाहरू सहित स्तुपाहरु, छोर्तेनहरु, मठ मन्दिरहरू, र हिमालय भेग तिर पहाडका टुप्पाहरू लाई पनि रंगीबिरंगी प्रार्थनाका झन्डाहरूले सजाउने गरिन्छ, जुन झन्डाहरू पाँच वटा रङ्ग समावेश गरी बनाइएको हुन्छ, ती पाँच रङ्गहरूले पन्च तत्त्वहरूको प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दछ। यसरी यी सजावटका सामानहरू राख्नु को उद्देश्य वर्ष भरि घर परिवार सबै तिर शान्ति, सुरक्षा, र सद्भाव  कायम रहोस् भन्ने हो।

नयाँ वर्षको पहिलो दिनमा तामांङ्गहरू स-परिवार तथा साथीहरू सहित परम्परागत पोसाकमा स्तुपा र मठ-मन्दिर हरू इत्यादि को दर्शन र भ्रमण गर्दछन्। यस अवसरमा, विहारहरूमा बौद्ध भिक्षुहरूले विभिन्न प्रकारका मुकुट र विशिष्ट पहिरन लगाएर भिन्न भिन्न नृत्यहरू पनि प्रदर्शन गर्छन्। र, भिक्षुहरूले नकारात्मक शक्तिहरूलाई निष्कासन गर्ने र परिवार र सामान्य जनताहरूका जिन्दगीमा सकारात्मकता ल्याउने उद्देश्यका साथ धेरै किसिमका अनुष्ठानहरू समेत गर्छन्।

सोनाम ल्होसार को उत्सव:

तामांङ्गहरूको नयाँ वर्षको उत्सव, ल्होसार एक ठाउँ बाट अर्को ठाउँमा अलिक फरक भने हुन सक्छ, तर सामान्यतया यो धेरै कुराहरूमा समान हुन्छ। तामांङ्गहरू धार्मिक अनुष्ठानहरूका लागी स्तुपाहरु, चैत्यहरू र मठ-मन्दिरहरु जान्छन्। सामान्यतया, यो उत्सव लगभग दुई हप्तासम्म मनाउने गरिन्छ। ल्होसारको तयारी खाप्से (तातो तेलमा पकाइएको एक प्रकारको रोटी, शेर्पा समुदायले पनि प्रयोग गर्छन्) भन्ने विशेष खाजाको तयारीबाट सुरु हुन्छ जुन ल्होसारको दिनमा खाइने विशेष चीजहरू मध्ये एक हो।

ल्होसारको अघिल्लो दिन, सम्पूर्ण परिवार मिलेर आफ्नो घर सफा गर्न र सजावटको लागि जम्मा हुन्छन्; विशेष गरी भान्सा कोठा जुन स्थानमा उत्सवको लागी चाहिने सम्पूर्ण आवश्यक व्यञ्जनहरू बनाइन्छ भने सामान्य दिनहरूमा पनि सधैँ खाना  बनाउने काम गरिन्छ।  परम्परागत रूपमा त्यस दिन घर सफा गर्नु भनेको अब आउने राम्रो भाग्यको आशाका साथ त्यसको लागि मार्ग बनाउँदै, सबै नराम्रो भाग्यलाई मेटाउनु हो।

नयाँ वर्ष उत्सवका लागि धेरै प्रकारका व्यञ्जनहरू पकाइन्छन् जस मध्ये एक विशेष प्रकारको सूप बनाउने गरिन्छ जुन परिकार लाई मो: मो: वा सी-मो: मो: सँग खाने गरिन्छ जसलाई “गुथ्थुक” भनिन्छ। यो सूप प्राय: विभिन्न खाद्यहरू जस्तै चामल, सक्खर खण्ड, मासु, गहुँ, याक चीज / घिउ, हरियो खुर्सानी, मरीच, मूला, र गाजर इत्यादिको मिश्रणले बनेको हुन्छ।   ल्होसार चाडको भोजमा सामान्यतया सुँगुर/बँदेल, हास, कुखुरा, र खापसे लगायतका  विभिन्न प्रकारको मिठाईहरू समेत समावेश गरिएका  हुन्छन्। ल्होसारको दिन, साँझपख सम्पूर्ण परिवारजन जम्मा हुन्छन् र त्यस अवसरको लागी बनाइएका मिठा मिठा परिकारहरूका साथ घरमा नै बनेको मदिरा इत्यादि सबै सँगै बसेर खाने गर्दछन्। यो उत्सव लगभग पुरै रात साथीभाइहरू सहित मनाउने गरिन्छ, जब घडीको सुईले मध्यरातको १२ छुन्छ, भेला भएका सम्पूर्ण परिवार र साथी – भाइ हरूले परम्परागत अभिवादन, “ताशी धेले ” एक अर्कालाई आदान प्रदान गर्छन् र यसरी तामांङ्ग समुदायले आफ्नो नव वर्ष अर्थात् ल्होसार मनाउने गर्दछन्।

यसरी, तामांङ्गहरु पुरानो वर्षको बिदाइ र नयाँ वर्षलाई स्वागत गरेर, राती ढिलो सम्म रहँदै परिवार र साथीभाइहरू सहित एक आपसमा नयाँ वर्षको अभिवादन साटासाट गर्दछन्। नयाँ वर्षको सुरुवात भएको उत्सव बा पुरानो वर्षको बिदाइको उत्सवलाई सङ्गीत, नृत्य इत्यादिको साथमा डम्फुको तालमा “तामांङ्ग सेलो” मा नाच्ने र मनोरञ्जन गर्ने गर्दछन्।

काठमाडौँमा ल्होसारको रौनक: 

आजको समय काठमाडौँ सहर विभिन्न जात-जातीहरूको एक साझा केन्द्र भएकोले आज काठमाडौँ भित्र र यस सहर वरिपरि बस्ने तामांङ्गहरु सोनाम ल्होसार मनाउन यसको मध्य भागमा रहेको टुँडिखेलमा भेला हुन्छन्। त्यहाँ लोक – दोहोरी प्रतियोगिता, नाटक, र फुड फेस्टिभल जस्ता आकर्षणहरूका साथ विभिन्न कार्यक्रमहरू आयोजना गरिएका हुन्छन्।

तामांङ्गहरु भेला भएको उक्त समूहमा उनीहरू आफ्नै जातीय पोसाकमा देख्न सकिन्छ, महिला र केटीहरूले उनीहरूको परम्परागत लुगा लगाएका हुन्छन्, त्यस्तै पारम्परिक टोपीसहित विभिन्न गहनाहरूले सजिएका हुन्छन्, भने पुरुषहरू पनि खास किसिमको परम्परागत तामांङ्ग पोसाकमा संलग्न हुने गर्छन्।

तामांङ्गहरू को हुन्, तिनीहरूको इतिहास संक्षिप्तमा:

तामांङ्गहरू नेपालको सबैभन्दा ठुलो जन जातीय समूह हो, देशको कुल जनसङ्ख्याको ८% तामांङ्गहरू रहेका छन् । नेपालको पुरातन जनजाति मध्ये एक भएकोले उनीहरूलाई “यम्बुको मान्छे” भनेर पनि चिनिने गरिन्छ। “तामांङ्ग” शब्द दुई शब्दहरू मिलेर बनेको छ, “ता” ले “घोडा” लाई जनाउँछ भने “मांङ्ग” भनेको “सवार” हो। तसर्थ, हामी तामांङ्ग हरूलाई   घोडा व्यापार र घोडसवार  सँग जोड्न सक्छौ। विभिन्न तथ्यहरू मध्ये एक उल्लेख गर्नै पर्ने तथ्य यो पनि हो कि उनीहरू  “घोडसवार  योद्धा” भनेर पनि चिनिन्छ ।

नेपालमा रहेका विभिन्न जन-जाती मद्ये तामांङ्गहरु एक समुदाय हुन्, तथा उनीहरूको आफ्नै संस्कृति, भेष भूषा र भाषा छ जसले गर्दा उनीहरू अरु जातीय समुदायहरू भन्दा फरक छन्। नेपालमा, तामांङ्ग समुदायहरू सामान्यतया मध्य-पहाडी क्षेत्र, पहाडी क्षेत्रका साथै काठमाडौँ उपत्यका ’round बसोबास गर्छन्।

धेरै तामांङ्ग समुदाय नेपालको हिमालको रेखा मुनितिर देखी मध्य पहाडी क्षेत्र सम्म  बसोबास गरेको देखिन्छ। राजधानी काठमाडौँ सहित, उनीहरू सामान्यतया सिन्धुपाल्चोक, काभ्रेपलान्चोक, नुवाकोट, धादिङ, रसुवा, मकवानपुर, दोलखा, रामेछाप, आदि जिल्लाहरूमा बसोबास गरिरहेका  छन्।

यद्यपि, आजकल तामांङ्गहरू सम्पूर्ण नेपालभरि मात्र छरिएका छैनन् तर विश्वका अन्य देशहरू जस्तै उत्तर अमेरिका, इङ्गल्यान्ड लगायत युरोपका केही देशहरूमा समेत  बसोबास गरिरहेका भेट्न सकिन्छ। त्यसै गरेर यस समुदायका धेरै तामांङ्गहरू पूर्वी भारत, खास गरी सिक्किम, दार्जिलिङ, मेघालय, आसाम, नागाल्याण्ड देखि गुहाटी सम्म बसाई सरेका छन्, भने उनीहरू अहिले भुटान र बर्मामा समेत पनि भेटिने गरिन्छ।

तामांङ्ग समुदाय उनीहरूको परम्परा र संस्कृतिमा पनि उत्तिकै धनी छन्, उनीहरू तामांङ्ग भाषा बोल्छन् जुन भाषा तिब्बती बर्मेली परिवारको एक सदस्य हो। तसर्थ, उनीहरूको आफ्नै परम्परा, भाषा, भेष-भूषा, संस्कृति, र सामाजिक संरचनाहरू छन्। अधिकांश तामांङ्ग बौद्ध धर्म मान्दछन् तर, नगण्य  स्थानहरू पनि छन्  जहाँ यस समूहले तिब्बती बौद्ध धर्म पनि मान्ने गरेको भेटिन्छ। नेपालको “केन्द्रीय तथ्याङ्क विभाग” को विवरण  अनुसार ९० % तामांङ्गहरुले बौद्ध धर्म  मान्छन् ।

 तामांङ्ग सेलो, तामांङ्गहरुको सङ्गीत ।

तामांङ्गहरूको आफ्नै सङ्गीत छ, जसलाई “तामांङ्ग सेलो” को नामले चिनिन्छ। गीत सङ्गीतका  कार्यक्रमहरू को समयमा प्रयोग हुने सानो गोलाकार साङ्गीतिक उपकरणलाई “डम्फु” भनिन्छ। यो गोलाकार काठले बनेको हुन्छ जसको एक छेउ खुला हुन्छ भने एक छेउ मृगको छालाले ढाकिएको हुन्छ, जसलाई बत्तीस वटा स-साना मसिना बाँसको पेन्सिल जस्ता टुक्राहरूले गोलाकार काठमा जडान गरिएको हुन्छ। तामांङ्ग सेलोले ल्होसारको जस्तै चाडपर्वका साथै अन्य चाडपर्वहरूमा पनि महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेल्दछ। यस समुदायमा डम्फु बजाउनु र सेलो गाउनु धेरै सामान्य कुरा हो, जुन आनन्द, शोक, दुःख वा ठट्यौली आदिको संयोजनको रूपमा वर्णन गर्न सकिन्छ जसमा ठट्टा, दार्शनिक विचार, मजा, जीवनशैली, साथै जीवनको आनन्दको संयोजन समावेश गरिएको हुन्छ। अन्य सबै अस्तित्वमा रहेका साङ्गीतिक शैलीहरू जस्तै तामांङ्ग सेलोले पनि सामाजिक, भाषिक र सांस्कृतिक सीमा पार गरेको छ; यसैले, यो नेपालमा एक धेरै लोकप्रिय नेपाली सङ्गीतको रूपमा परिचित भएको छ।

डम्फु र यसको उत्पत्तिको कथा

तामांङ्गहरूको  पौराणिक कथाका अनुसार उनीहरू घुमन्तेहरू थिए कहिले एक ठाउँ त केही दिन पछि अर्को ठाउँ सर्ने गर्थे। उनीहरू खाना र आश्रयको खोजीमा नै एक ठाउँमा नबसी एक बाट अर्को ठाउँ सर्ने गर्थे। तिनीहरू जङ्गली फलहरू, पिँडालु आदि खान्थे भने मासुको लागि जनावर हरुको सिकार गर्थे। तिनीहरू दिनभर सिकार गर्थे र त्यो सिकार सँगै बस्ने सम्पूर्ण समुदायलाई बाँड्नु पर्ने चलन थियो ’cause सिकारीहरूको समूह अस्थायी आश्रयमा बस्ने धेरै परिवारको सदस्यहरू मिलेर बन्ने गर्थ्यो ।

एक चोटि, सिकार समूहका नेता, जसको नाम “पेङ्ग दोर्जे” थियो केही सदस्यहरूसँग सिकार गर्न गए, तर, उक्त दिन दिनभर सिकारको खोजी गर्दा पनि केही नभेटेर उनीहरू खाली हात आश्रय स्थल तिर फर्कन लागेका थिए। गोधूलि साँझको बेला, सिकार बिना घर फर्कँदै गर्दा, पेङ्ग दोर्जेले ठाडो उकालो चट्टानमा अचानक एउटा मृग चरी रहेको देखे।

Being a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-religious nation, Nepal is the homeland of a unique and variety of cultural and religious people. Feasts, festivals, social ceremonies, cultural celebrations, etc. have been part of Nepalese society. Besides, they are important assets of the nation and source of joy, happiness, and a way to maintain the religious bond between the people. People of different cultural groups celebrate different sorts of festivals.

Chhath festival is one of the festivals celebrated in Nepal as well as in different parts of India. This festival is historically native to states of India like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal and, Madhesi communities of Nepal. It is a Hindu festival mainly celebrated by natives of the Mithila region and Madhesi in Nepal. The festival generally occurs in the month of October or November and is celebrated for 4 days starting from Kartik Shukla Chaturthi to Kartik Shukla Saptami. The festival is mainly dedicated to worshipping the sun and Chhathi Maiya to thank them for their blessings, for the fulfillment of the wish, and for prosperity and well-being.

The rituals of the Chhath festival mainly include taking the holy bath, fasting, offering Argha and prasad to rising and setting sun, and so on. The sun is offered with Argha to show the devotion towards Lord Surya and to express thankfulness for sustaining life on earth and maintenance of a healthy environment. Besides, Chhathi Maiya is also worshipped at the festival.

The story behind the celebration of the Chhath festival

Chhath pooja was celebrated since the period of Mahabharat. It was said that Draupadi(wife of panch Pandavas) had the power to cure any kind of disease and the reason for her power was her devotion towards Lord Surya. It is often said that the sun has the power to heal any diseases. The divine energy from the sun was the reason that Draupadi was the curer for any kind of disease. They also worshipped lord Surya for the success of their exile period. Hence, to commemorate these events, the Chhath festival is celebrated worshipping the Lord Surya.

The celebration of Chhath pooja includes the following four days

First Day(Arba Arbian or Nahan Khan)

On the first day, the holy bath is taken in the nearby rivers and the house is maintained clean. The devotees take food only one-time discarding garlic, onions, and meat.

Second Day(Kharna)

This is the day before Chhath Pooja where fasting is observed ending in the evening sunset and Parsad like bananas, puris, Khers are distributed.

Third-Day(Chhath Pooja)

It is the main day of the Chhath festival. On this day, the offerings (Prasad, Argha) for the evening, are prepared for the whole day. In the evening, the devotees along with their family go to nearby rivers, lakes, or ponds and worship the setting sun and provide their holy offerings(Argha). The setting sun is prayed for the longevity and prosperity in the family. In the evening, cultural and folk dances are performed the whole night after the Chhath pooja. The folk songs are also played mainly in three languages Maithili, Magadhi, and Bhojpuri.

Fourth Day (Paran)

It is the final day of the Chhath pooja on which the devotees along with their family return to the nearby rivers or lakes again before the sun rises and offer the Argha to the rising sun which marks the end of the festival. They break their fast by taking Prasad that mainly includes Thekuwa(made from wheat), puris, Kher, etc., and are also distributed among the family. This festival celebrated after Tihar has its own importance.

The fast is observed for the prosperity of the family. It is also said that the wishes of fast observers are also fulfilled. However, it is difficult to take the fasting of the Chhath festival as there are many restrictions and should be followed strictly. From the health point of view, the festival promotes cleanliness and the healthiness of the body. It also improves the immune system of the body and the proper functioning of various human glands. Moreover, the useful radiation from the sun helps to fight against and cure different infections, diseases, and so on. It also brings mental calmness and provides mental benefits. Hence, the Chhath festival is also very significant from a health point of view.

In the worst conditions you can imagine — after hurricanes, earthquakes, bombs and gunfire — the best of humanity shows up. Not once or twice but always.

The seven people killed on a World Central Kitchen mission in Gaza on Monday were the best of humanity. They are not faceless or nameless. They are not generic aid workers or collateral damage in war.

Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutaha, John Chapman, Jacob Flickinger, Zomi Frankcom, James Henderson, James Kirby and Damian Sobol risked everything for the most fundamentally human activity: to share our food with others.

These are people I served alongside in Ukraine, Turkey, Morocco, the Bahamas, Indonesia, Mexico, Gaza and Israel. They were far more than heroes.

Their work was based on the simple belief that food is a universal human right. It is not conditional on being good or bad, rich or poor, left or right. We do not ask what religion you belong to. We just ask how many meals you need.

From Day 1, we have fed Israelis as well as Palestinians. Across Israel, we have served more than 1.75 million hot meals. We have fed families displaced by Hezbollah rockets in the north. We have fed grieving families from the south. We delivered meals to the hospitals where hostages were reunited with their families. We have called consistently, repeatedly and passionately for the release of all the hostages.

All the while, we have communicated extensively with Israeli military and civilian officials. At the same time, we have worked closely with community leaders in Gaza, as well as Arab nations in the region. There is no way to bring a ship full of food to Gaza without doing so.

That’s how we served more than 43 million meals in Gaza, preparing hot food in 68 community kitchens where Palestinians are feeding Palestinians.

We know Israelis. Israelis, in their heart of hearts, know that food is not a weapon of war.

Israel is better than the way this war is being waged. It is better than blocking food and medicine to civilians. It is better than killing aid workers who had coordinated their movements with the Israel Defense Forces.

The Israeli government needs to open more land routes for food and medicine today. It needs to stop killing civilians and aid workers today. It needs to start the long journey to peace today.

In the worst conditions, after the worst terrorist attack in its history, it’s time for the best of Israel to show up. You cannot save the hostages by bombing every building in Gaza. You cannot win this war by starving an entire population.

We welcome the government’s promise of an investigation into how and why members of our World Central Kitchen family were killed. That investigation needs to start at the top, not just the bottom.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said of the Israeli killings of our team, “It happens in war.” It was a direct attack on clearly marked vehicles whose movements were known by the Israel Defense Forces.

It was also the direct result of a policy that squeezed humanitarian aid to desperate levels. Our team was en route from a delivery of almost 400 tons of aid by sea — our second shipment, funded by the United Arab Emirates, supported by Cyprus and with clearance from the Israel Defense Forces.

The team members put their lives at risk precisely because this food aid is so rare and desperately needed. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification global initiative, half the population of Gaza — 1.1. million people — faces the imminent risk of famine. The team would not have made the journey if there were enough food, traveling by truck across land, to feed the people of Gaza.

The peoples of the Mediterranean and Middle East, regardless of ethnicity and religion, share a culture that values food as a powerful statement of humanity and hospitality — of our shared hope for a better tomorrow.

There’s a reason, at this special time of year, Christians make Easter eggs, Muslims eat an egg at iftar dinners and an egg sits on the Seder plate. This symbol of life and hope reborn in spring extends across religions and cultures.

I have been a stranger at Seder dinners. I have heard the ancient Passover stories about being a stranger in the land of Egypt, the commandment to remember — with a feast before you — that the children of Israel were once slaves.

It is not a sign of weakness to feed strangers; it is a sign of strength. The people of Israel need to remember, at this darkest hour, what strength truly looks like.
