DON'T believe their lies. They have no interest in helping. Check out the snapshot from their email to see how they really operate. Once the review was posted, they threatened (and carried out their threat) and stopped the revision. This was a total waste of $600. Find a REPUTABLE company to revise your resume! I am filing this under 'Lessons Learned'. 1) Don't believe the shiny positive reviews, check and check again (there are others who were ripped off - look under 'not recommended reviews'). 2) Don't pay large amounts of money for an online product from an unverified company. 3) Make sure they have a money back guarantee! 4) When you get a sense that something is amiss (which I did with that first dinosaur of a writer) - get out fast!!! It would have said me a lot of wasted time and aggravation if I had just stopped the process early, knowing that the $600 was defrauded (but I kept hoping if I was 'nice' to the unpleasant writer that she might actually do her job. Boy, was I wrong!). I put the effort into writing this review in the hopes that others do not have to go through this horrific experience. Good luck.

We worked with you on your resume, it was finalized, and you began submitting it to jobs you were applying for. However, you later contacted us to request more revisions. It became clear that you wanted us to rewrite your resume for different job targets, which is not part of the resume edit process. Despite this, we continued to work with you on your resume and assign new writers until we stopped receiving responses from you. When you contacted us to request a new writer, your new writer reached out right away (we have no control over your email inbox). In looking over your conversations with your writer, you were happy with the services until you were told there would be a fee to create a retargeted resume for different jobs. The additional materials we provide help clients easily edit their resume on their own for new job postings after their resume is finalized. We apologize for any inconvenience or dissatisfaction you experienced during the resume writing process. We take all feedback seriously and strive to provide high-quality services to all our clients. We would be happy to continue working with you on your resume, as we have previously offered. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you are interested.

Truly horrific experience and a waste of money. Please do NOT believe the slick reviews and marketing. I received terrible service. Yes, the slapdash resume they produced definitely looks more tailored than my original one but it is not worth anything like $600 (I think the woman who did the work probably spent a total of 90 mins plugging in key words and revising the format). It will have to do until the happy day I find a professional who is TRULY interested in working with me to create a good resume. Here is the background story, I am an IT professional earning good six-figure salaries. All of my job offers for the past couple of decades were from resumes I developed. I was looking to improve the quality of the resume and hopefully enter a new stage in my career so I contacted this company and everything (initially) was fine and dandy. Then the disaster occurred. They paired me with an old school writer, heavy handed and condescending, whose methods were better oriented to the 1980s hiring practices than anything currently used in Technology. When I requested a new resume writer, who actually was familiar with IT and had worked with other IT professionals, they assigned a new person (took over a week) who again knew NOTHING about Technology (she asked 'what is Linux?' - Is she not able to do a Google search???). At the first meeting with this individual, she complained that she had to take on my resume, implying that her other clients were her 'real work' and mine was just an hassle (nice customer service). This woman was disagreeable and not interested in putting any effort into revising my resume. My impression was she was trying to get rid of the work as soon as possible. When I asked for revisions (that I had been assured by their customer rep would be forthcoming - see the email, below) the writer made it clear she had no intention of revising the resume - and so they transferred me to a THIRD person. This is what was promised by the customer rep: "While our website states a 1 week unlimited revision period, we do not limit you to just 1 week. Your writer will work with you on any edits/revisions until you are 100% satisfied with your resume. Your writer will also be very responsive during your writing process and you will be in communication with them throughout. Once you have received your first draft, you may schedule another phone consultation with your writer to discuss any revisions that you would like your writer to complete." Completely and 100% untrue. They were not responsive. They were not interested in my satisfaction. There was only one phone consultation and it was so unpleasant that I wanted nothing more to do with this individual. Very disagreeable experience. They also promised lots of additional material that would help me customize my resume for specific job positions. The one page PDF they sent was a joke. It had text like this (and this is an exact copy of what they sent): "The title is your target position; change it as needed based on job posting. These are three subtitles or three major keywords/core competencies under the title; change as needed." This is information you can find anywhere on the Web, there is nothing new or helpful here. If you are very young, starting off on your career, and you have money to burn, then perhaps this company will help improve your resume. HOWEVER, if you are a professional, with an established and successful career - BEWARE, this company is as close to scammers as I have ever encountered. I am sharing this review widely to prevent other people from being burned. Update. After I posted this review, they tried to threaten me into changing it. Here is a photo of the email (FYI, my next stop is the Better Business Bureau).

A common faux pas is turning your resume into a memoir. Hiring managers have about as much time to read your resume as you do to decide if you want to swipe right on a dude on a dating app who lists his job as “Consultant at Consulting.” Stick to one page if you’re early in your career, and only venture into a second if your experience justifies it.

Not tailoring it to the job

Tailoring your resume for each job application might sound as fun as a root canal, but it’s just as necessary (or even more so, because in America, you need a job in order to get the dental insurance to get the root canal). Customize your resume to match the job description, highlighting the experience and skills that make you the perfect fit. It shows you’re not just looking for any job—you’re looking for this job.

Too Many Keywords

Stuffing your resume with keywords until it reads like a spam email won’t endear you to human readers. Use keywords wisely, ensuring your resume is still coherent and engaging to the real-life humans who will (hopefully) read it after the AI does. And definitely don’t have a large chunk of white text at the bottom. Even if employers can’t read it, it’s just so...2004.

My first resume said I was attentive to detials, so listen, I get it. But please triple-check for typos. It’s the equivalent of having spinach in your teeth during a first date; it’s all anyone’s going to remember. Use spell check, read your resume backwards, have a friend review it, etc. You know what to do.

Saying you “significantly increased sales” is nice, but it’s like telling someone you’re “really funny” without cracking a joke (I believe you though, don’t worry). Quantify your achievements. Did you increase sales by 20%? Save your company $10,000? Grow your team by 50%? Write it down.

Too Much History

There’s no need to detail every job you’ve ever had since your high school paper route (unless you were really fast at delivering those papers). Focus on recent and relevant experience. Think of your resume as a highlight reel, not a documentary.

The Bright Side of Being Trolled

Beginning in 2018 (and continuing into 2024), Mike Podesto, owner of Golden, Colorado resume writing firm, Find My Profession, started writing “reviews” that troll hundreds of professional resume writers.

I think of his style as “disinformation marketing.”

Mike sells resume services to job seekers via 2 websites, findmyprofession.com and resumezest.com.

He also does home repairs via HandymanParker.co.

Mike is not one of my clients or a business associate.

Mike Podesto’s “Reviews” on FindMyProfession.com

Mike has attacked and tried to divert business from hundreds of other resume writers. His tactics have included:

  • Fake 5-star reviews of his company on Trustpilot, Sitejabber, and other third-party review sites
  • Fake 1-star reviews of other resume writers on third-party sites
  • False, negative descriptions of other resume writing services on his site, findmyprofession.com
  • Using Google ads to direct people searching for competitors to his false, negative descriptions of their services
  • False claims that other writers don’t have public reviews when they do (particularly on LinkedIn)
  • Libelous websites, posts, and accusations about other resume writers

Responses to Mike’s Behavior

In 2019, the BBB asked Mike to prove or remove his claims from his website and other locations. They censured him when he didn’t.

As a result, he added an “advertising disclosure” on some of the “reviews” on findmyprofession.com.

However, in 2022  he removed those BBB-requested and FTC-required disclosures.

Thus, his readers see no mention of his egregious conflicts of interest, and they might not understand his “reviews” constitute ads hijacking them to his Find My Profession and ResumeZest websites to buy resume writing services.

Beyond the BBB, as career-oriented organizations and publications became aware of his behavior, they expelled Mike and restricted his ability to post on their sites.

In addition to his public attacks, Mike makes threatening phone calls and writes emails to bully resume writers who object to his marketing practices into fear and silence. He has also threatened to harm their spouses’ businesses.

His behavior caused one of the subjects of Mike’s harassment to file suit against him. The federal court proceeding , Weiner v. Podesto, alleged libel, libel per se, deceptive or unfair conduct, and material misrepresentation.

During the suit, which appears to have been settled via mediation, Mike admitted to many of the allegations while under oath. His admissions included libelous activities and writing the fake 5-star and 1-star reviews noted above.

The 10 Best Resume Writers

With that background, let’s look at Mike’s lists.

His website, findmyprofession.com,  currently contains lists of the “10 best resume writers” in many cities:

Allentown, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Bridgeport, Buffalo, Calgary, Charleston, Charlotte, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Edmonton, El Paso, Ft. Worth, Grand Rapids, Hartford, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Louisville, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Montreal, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Providence, Richmond, Sacramento, St. Louis,  Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Tampa, Toronto, Tucson, Vancouver, Ventura, Virginia Beach, Washington, DC, and Winnipeg.

Even though he doesn’t appear to have hired any of the resume writers he lists and “reviews,” Mike has written negative, frequently wrong information about working with them.

Beyond that, he rated Golden-based Find My Profession as the #1 resume writing company in each city listed above.

We’ll give him #1 for Golden, but the rest of the US and the world (see below)? Come on.

He has also started ranking his other brand, Resume Zest, #2 on most of his “reviews.”

Find My Profession Reviews

While Mike reviews writers he hasn’t hired, you can find reviews of Find My Profession all over the Internet.

Since Mike admitted under oath to posting fake, positive reviews of his company, I don’t trust his Google, Sitejabber, BBB, TrustPilot, and Yelp reviews.

In fact, the FTC pinpoints several of those platforms and provides links for consumers to report inappropriate reviews to the sites. It also notes that many of the platforms ignore the reports.

One example of a review that Mike didn’t write appeared on thebalancecareers.com, which offers a paid resume writing service review and advertising product .

The reviewer he paid summarized Find My Profession as “expensive” with a “mediocre product.”

It appears Mike wasn’t happy with that candid evaluation because it changed after The Balance posted it.

As of 2022, it seems to have disappeared from the site. I kept a screenshot of the original review.

In addition to his “10 Best Resume Writers” posts, Mike has rated his company as the best resume writing service in all of America and several states.

Beyond his geographic claims, Mike has written several posts naming his company the best executive resume writing service.

Will Mike Podesto’s Reviews Continue to Expand?

Will Mike continue to write “reviews” on findmyprofession.com that claim he’s the best *whatever* in the world and disparage competitors?

4 years after I first published this, that seems to be the case.

Sadly, his posts divert job seekers looking for a resume writer or other career services provider to a deceitful marketer who can’t, by admission , find a good job for himself.

That person spent less than a year recruiting junior software developers before anointing himself a career expert.

You can also use a pre-designed template  to create your signature. Download the templates in Word, customize with your personal information, and then copy and paste into the Edit signature box. 

Type a new signature to use in your email

You can add links and images to your email signature, change fonts and colors, and justify the text using the mini formatting bar under Edit signature .

You can also add social media icons and links in your signature or customize one of our pre-designed temlates. For more information, see Create a signature from a template .

To add images to your signature, see Add a logo or image to your signature .

Under Choose default signature , set the following options. 

In the E-mail account drop-down box, choose an email account to associate with the signature. You can have different signatures for each email account.

You can have a signature automatically added to all new messages. Go to in the New messages drop-down box and select one of your signatures. If you don't want to automatically add a signature to new messages, choose (none). This option does not add a signature to any messages you reply to or forward. 

You can select to have your signature automatically appear in reply and forward messages. In the  Replies/forwards drop-down, select one of your signatures. Otherwise, accept the default option of (none). 

Choose OK to save your new signature and return to your message. Outlook doesn't add your new signature to the message you opened in Step 1, even if you chose to apply the signature to all new messages. You'll have to add the signature manually to this one message. All future messages will have the signature added automatically. To add the signature manually, select Signature from the Message menu and then pick the signature you just created.

Add a logo or image to your signature

If you have a company logo or an image to add to your signature, use the following steps.

Open a new message and then select Signature > Signatures .

In the Select signature to edit box, choose the signature you want to add a logo or image to.

Insert an image from your device icon

To resize your image, right-click the image, then choose Picture . Select the Size tab and use the options to resize your image. To keep the image proportions, make sure to keep the Lock aspect ratio checkbox checked.

When you're done, select OK , then select OK again to save the changes to your signature.

Insert a signature manually

If you don't choose to insert a signature for all new messages or replies and forwards, you can still insert a signature manually.

In your email message, on the Message tab, select Signature .

Choose your signature from the fly-out menu that appears. If you have more than one signature, you can select any of the signatures you've created.

Automatically add a signature to a message

You can create an email signature that you can add automatically to all outgoing messages or add manually to specific ones.

Select Settings   at the top of the page.

Select Mail >  Compose and reply .

Under Email signature , type your signature and use the available formatting options to change its appearance.

Select the default signature for new messages and replies.

Manually add your signature to a new message

If you've created a signature but didn't choose to automatically add it to all outgoing messages, you can add it later when you write an email message.

In a new message or reply, type your message.

If you created multiple signatures, choose the signature you want to use for your new message or reply.

When your email message is ready, choose Send .

Note:  Outlook.com is the web version of Outlook for users signing in with a personal Microsoft account such as an Outlook.com or Hotmail.com account.
