Microsoft Teams brought many teams together and has been the tool that brings projects from start to finish. But sometimes, clients will require our IT support services to show them the ropes - especially with sharing screens and PowerPoint presentations in Microsoft Teams. 

In this article I’ll show you precisely how you can do these things on Microsoft Teams:

  • Share your entire desktop,
  • Share a specific window,
  • Share a PowerPoint presentation, or
  • Share a whiteboard that your team can “collaborate” on 🙂

Sharing Screen Content in Microsoft Teams

You've got a handful of options at your disposal when you want to share content in a meeting, let’s get clear on what the options look like and the best scenario for each. 👇

Select the share your desktop option if you want to share your entire desktop screen in Microsoft Teams.

Note: This is the equivalent of having someone look over your shoulder and will include visibility of all your notifications, reminders, and other desktop activity.

Tip : Choose this option when you need to share multiple windows simultaneously. It’s a good idea to disable your notifications or set your computer to do-not-disturb mode first.

Select the share your screen option if you want to present one of your open windows in the Microsoft Teams app. An example might be a spreadsheet, webpage or word doc.

Note : This option will exclude notifications, reminders or desktop activity outside the shared window.

But sometimes audio calling or virtual meeting with your team or your colleague is not enough. So, you may need to share your screen with the group to let them exactly what you’re talking about.

With the Microsoft Teams Screen Sharing feature, you can choose to share your entire screen (programs, tabs, desktops, etc.), a specific window, a PowerPoint presentation, or a Microsoft whiteboard. 

When you are sharing your entire desktop, everything on your screen will be visible to the people with whom you are sharing content. 

When you are sharing only a window, anything outside that shared window will appear as a dark grey screen to the people you are sharing the screen with. This option is useful if you don’t want to accidentally share any confidential information from your PC.

Window lets you share an open window like a specific app you have open.

After you select what you want to show, a red border surrounds what you're sharing. Meeting participants won't see any notifications that might come in.

Select Stop sharing to stop showing your screen.

Note:  Linux users won't see the red border surrounding what they are sharing. Also, window sharing isn't available for Linux users.

On TEAMS while sharing a presentation, how can I see the participants at the same time?

While sharing my screen or presentation, I can not see the participants. How can I make it happen?

If you’ve been thinking of infusing your existing .NET apps with generative AI & Large Language Models (LLMs), now is a great time to dive in and we have new quickstarts to help you out.

Get hands on and learn AI using new .NET quickstarts

We’ve just released a new set of quickstarts that you can use with large language models from OpenAI (more models are also coming soon):

  • Summarize text
  • Build a chat app
  • Create an app to chat about your data
  • Execute a local .NET function
  • Generate images

Each quickstart takes you step-by-step through the code you need to accomplish the topic, using the Azure OpenAI SDK. Very soon we’ll also include versions of these samples using the Semantic Kernel SDK (we’ll share a post here when these are ready).

Not even one mention of ML.NET , not sure what to think about that. As this is all OpenAI/ChatGPT API’s, seems inaccurate to suggest any of this needs .NET 8 in the title.

Hey there – The focus of this post was around a new set of OpenAI quickstarts and we didn’t discuss ML.NET because there are already ML.NET tutorials available . These quickstarts also focus on using .NET 8 to work with the native Azure OpenAI SDK (and soon Semantic Kernel), instead of (for example) generic REST API calls.

Are these Azure specific or can be used with openAI’s chatgpt as well?

These quickstarts also work with OpenAI and we’re adding some clarifying details in the docs about this. They all use the Azure OpenAI SDK, which can be used with Open AI if you pass in only an OpenAI key, and instead of “deployment name” you’d pass the name of the model you want to use.
