Profile image of Ei Ei KHIN

2021, Ei Ei Khin

This study aims to find out to what extent the Master of business administration students of private universities in Myanmar feels satisfaction regarding service quality. Also, we want to find out if the impact of positive feelings about the university affects the students’ level of satisfaction. To be able to answer these questions, quantitative research was conducted. Additionally, we used a 5-points Likert scale to measure the students’ opinions. This research aims to assess the overall satisfaction of MBA students studying in private universities of perceived service quality and perceived service value applying descriptive and analytical methods. The constructs measure students’ satisfaction: Reliability, Assurance, Tangibility, Empathy, and Responsiveness, while the constructs measure the latter: Experience and Knowledge, and Price. The study found that the students were satisfied with the university, despite a negative service quality-point. Furthermore, service quality only affected customer satisfaction to a small degree. Also, we found a positive relationship between the impact of positive news and the level of satisfaction amongst the students. The private universities may look at this paper’s findings and use them to realize their strengths and weaknesses. Future research may be conducted to determine if other factors have a greater impact on student satisfaction than service quality does. Further studies are needed to establish a causal relationship between customer satisfaction and other demographic variables. This study is unique because it investigates the service quality gap in a higher education context. Also, the study brings new knowledge of the impact of positive news on student/customer satisfaction. Hopefully, the impact of this study will increase the public’s insight into private Universities in Myanmar. A study similar to this one is useful to any organization globally to establish the level of satisfaction from time to time. Keywords - Customer satisfaction, service quality, positive news, student satisfaction, higher education.

The proliferation of higher educational institutions in the country places burdens on existing ones on the need to ensure that services provided by them meet students' needs and interest. Examining current students' satisfaction vis-à-vis the services provided in these existing universities, therefore, becomes very important. This study examined students' perceived level of service quality and its relationship with their level of satisfaction in a public university in Ghana. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was used. Service quality (SERVQUAL) and Students' level of satisfaction (SLS) questionnaires were used to gather relevant data on service quality and students' level of satisfaction respectively. Out of a population of 1,396 third and fourth-year education business students, 550 were randomly selected for the study. The data obtained were analysed through descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient). The study found that the students' perceived level of service quality and their level of satisfaction were moderate. The study found a significant strong positive relationship between service quality and students' satisfaction (r = 0.70, p < 0.01). It was recommended that the University should continuously improve their service delivery and that much premium should be placed on students' interest and needs.

This study attempts to examine the relationship between service quality dimensions and overall service quality (tangibility, responsiveness, reliability, assurance and empathy) and students satisfaction. Furthermore, this study is also examine critical factors in service quality dimensions (tangibility, responsiveness, reliability, assurance and empathy) that contributes most to the satisfaction of the students. This study was conducted using a set of questionnaire to 200 Bachelor Degree students from two private higher education institutions. The study will provide results from empirical test of these relationships. The empirical results of this study can provide support for the Parasuraman's SERVQUAL (1985), which related to the factors contributing to students' satisfaction.

The development and growth of every economy depend on the contributions of higher education. Universities are responsible for the generation and dissemination of knowledge in the socio- economic benefits of a country. Service quality is vital for higher education institutions to remain competitive and growing. Higher educational institutions have seen the need to place a greater value on improving their activities to meet students’ perceptions and expectations to ensure satisfaction. Student satisfaction is vital in determining service quality at higher educational institutions. To have a competitive edge, higher institutions are required to build a stronger bond with students by providing the value for service delivery. The main purpose of this study is to assess student’s satisfaction with services provided at the School of Business, Valley View University. A cross-sectional adopted questionnaire survey involving 100 students were conducted using the SERVQUAL Model with five Service Quality dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and assurance. The data were analyzed with SPSS software in generating the mean and standard deviation and the regression results. The results of the study showed that service quality and its dimensions of assurance, tangible, and responsiveness provide at the School of Business were very satisfied, however, Empathy was moderately satisfied. Indicated that students had high expectations on services provided at the School of Business. It has also confirmed satisfaction can be 100% accounted for by service quality dimensions of Assurance, Tangible, Responsiveness, Reliability and Empathy. The study recommends that School of Business must attend to student’s needs by providing individual attention to solving the unique challenges of students.

This research attempted to find out factors that affect students' satisfaction in a higher learning Institution. The students were randomly selected from degree, masters and PhD programs to evaluate the level of students' satisfaction. The primary data source was a questionnaire that was distributed to the students. The researchers collected 165 completed questionnaires out of a total of 190. Four factors were chosen as independent variables namely; gender, race, student status and CGPA. This study showed that the overall services offered by the university were moderate from students' perspective. Findings showed that the academic-related activities are more important than non academic-related such as the availability of financial advice etc. It can be inferred from the findings that the academic activities should not be limited to classroom activities only. It must cover everything that can develop and instill good values, attitude, character and strong personality. Universities worldwide are now competing both nationally and internationally. In order to attain new students and retain current students they should aim to enhance student satisfaction and reduce student dissatisfaction. This can only be achieved if all services that are related to academic life such as implicit services, explicit services and physical services are delivered to a suitable standard. We also noticed that student status have an important influence on the perception of service quality. This is probably because student expectation increases as they have more contact with the university. Another element that also has influence on the perception of service quality is race and nationality. In relation to this, the academic or non-academic staffs that prepared services directly for the students should be able to identify and understand different levels of student expectations across years of study (from first year to final year) and races.

Service quality is increasingly recognized as an important aspect of academic programmes. This is because service quality has become a major strategy for improving competitiveness in an educational institution. This research conducted a quantitative survey on students' perception of a higher educational institute in Malaysia namely Graduate School of Management, IIUM based on service quality performance. This paper mainly focused on critical factors of service quality of academic programmes which are offered by the Graduate School of Management, IIUM. Based on research findings and analysis, this study explored seven dimensions of service quality namely: administrative service, tangibles, academic programmes, academic staff, delivery of teaching, assurance, and empathy. In this study, authors used SPSS – 18 and AMOS-16 version to explore seven dimensions of service quality through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). These seven dimensions were tested to measure the relationships with overall students' satisfaction of Graduate School of Management (GSM), IIUM by using structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis.
