How to Create a One-Page Resume Format
Quick Navigation:
Why use a one-page resume format?
How to create a one-page resume format, one-page resume template, one-page resume example.
After you’ve spent years in the workforce, you may decide it’s time to apply for another job. When you have extensive work experience, plus other impressive skills and achievements, your resume can become longer than one page. Read this article to learn how to streamline your experience, education and skills to fit on a one-page resume format.
You should use a one-page resume format because it makes it easier for hiring managers to review and share your resume with other people in the company. In addition, a one-page resume ensures all of your qualifications are easy to find.
Here are some things to consider when creating your one-page resume:
1. First, consider the position you’re applying to
You may want to modify your resume plan according to the employer’s needs and your work experience. Sometimes, specific careers need longer sections, but this isn’t always the case. For example, a senior role might focus more on experience than an entry-level job.
Take time to review the job listing thoroughly to have a better feel for what the hiring manager wants to see. This can help you condense sections so your resume is easier for them to scan.
2. Second, create a list of accomplishments and work activities
If you have an extensive work history and impressive achievements, it can be challenging to know what to cut out. Make a list of key accomplishments and work duties. Focus on your responsibilities and include any relevant achievements, which may be much longer than one page in the beginning.
3. Third, identify relevant information
Now that you’ve created a detailed list of information pertaining to your career and accomplishments, you can begin highlighting or circling key sections that closely match the requirements of the role. This helps you eliminate irrelevant information and helps you create an outline for your resume. When you’re ready, you can start the process of organizing relevant sections into a condensed version that fits on one page.
4. Fourth, create your first draft and shorten it
Create a new resume that’s as close to one page in length as possible. There’s no need to worry if it goes longer than that on the first try. Think of it as a rough draft that changes in length and content. When you’re ready, go through your resume again to identify any unnecessary information and remove sections that may be better suited for other positions. Reference the job listing as you write and try to only include information pertaining to that particular role.
5. Fifth, list your information with bullet points
Using bullet points creates an easy-to-read format that guides hiring managers to the most important sections of the resume. Plus, it looks more organized. Under each key section, include a bullet point, then describe your key accomplishments related to that role rather than focusing on responsibilities. This strategy creates more of an impact than stating daily tasks because it explains your responsibilities through achievements. Try to include specific numbers, percentages and timeframes in your description while paying attention to length.
6. Sixth, eliminate unnecessary information
There are a few sections you can remove from your resume to ensure it’s one page. You may opt to remove your objective or summary and instead expand your experience section. If you have decades of career experience, consider leaving off information that is older than 10 to 15 years. It is not necessary to list your high school if you have a college degree and other credentials. It is no longer necessary to include the phrase ‘references available upon request’ at the end of your resume. The job listing or hiring manager will let you know if you need to provide references.
7. Seventh, adjust spacing and font
Another great way to fit information onto one page is by adjusting the spacing between lines and new sections. In most word processors, you can do this within the paragraph settings. Select single spacing and opt to remove spaces in between new paragraphs. Additionally, you should try applying a 10-point font size to your resume (while keeping your name at 14-point or higher) to see if you can create more space while still making sure it’s easy to read.
8. Finally, save your resume in PDF format
Unless directed otherwise in the job listing, save your resume as a PDF to ensure that hiring managers and recruiters see the document as you intend them to see it. This eliminates the chance for changes in formatting that could result in your resume being two pages.
Follow this template when creating a one-page resume that highlights your most relevant work experiences and career accomplishments:

Why Should You Use a One Page Resume?
With the job market becoming more competitive, job seekers need to find ways to stand out from the crowd. A one page resume is a great way to do this. It allows you to showcase your most relevant skills and experiences to potential employers without overwhelming them with unnecessary information.
Benefits of a One Page Resume
There are many benefits to using a one page resume, including:
Increased readability: A one page resume is easier to read and digest than a longer, more complicated resume.
Improved chances of getting noticed: With so many job applications flooding in, employers are more likely to take notice of a concise, well-crafted one page resume.
Ability to highlight key skills and experiences: By focusing on the most relevant information, job seekers can better showcase their qualifications to potential employers.
Simplified application process: Many recruiters and hiring managers prefer one page resumes because they are easier to handle and manage.
A one page resume is an effective way to present your qualifications and stand out in a competitive job market. By carefully crafting your one page resume, you can increase your chances of catching the attention of potential employers and landing your dream job.
Researching and Preparing Your Resume
When it comes to creating a one-page resume that stands out from the crowd, a significant part of the process is researching and preparing your resume. This section will cover four critical areas: knowing your audience, identifying your transferable skills, understanding resume formatting, and choosing the right font.
A. Knowing Your Audience
Before diving into writing your resume, you need to know your audience. The person who will be reviewing your resume will be looking for specific skills and qualifications based on the job that they are hiring for. Research the company you are applying to and try to understand their needs and values. This will help you tailor your resume to the specific job and stand out from other applicants.
B. Identifying Your Transferable Skills
Transferable skills are those that can be used in various professions and industries. Identifying your transferable skills is crucial when creating a one-page resume. These skills may include communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. Be sure to highlight them in your resume, as they will be important to the person reviewing your application.
C. Understanding Resume Formatting
Resume formatting can play a significant role in whether your resume gets noticed or not. Use bullet points, headings, and proper spacing to make your resume visually appealing and easy to read. Be consistent with your formatting, use a clear and concise language, and avoid using jargon or buzzwords. Keep in mind that your resume should be easy to scan, and the most important information should be at the top.
D. Choosing the Right Font
Choosing the right font may seem like a minor detail, but it can impact the overall look and feel of your resume. Use a font that is easy to read, such as Arial, Times New Roman, or Calibri. Avoid using decorative or script fonts, as they can be difficult to read. Keep your font size between 10-12 points, and use bold or italics for emphasis.
Researching and preparing your resume is an essential part of creating a one-page resume that stands out. By knowing your audience, identifying your transferable skills, understanding resume formatting, and choosing the right font, you can create a resume that showcases your strengths and increases your chances of getting hired.
Writing Your One Page Resume
As a job seeker, the ultimate goal is to catch the attention of potential employers and showcase your professional value. In the age of information overload, the one page resume has become a vital tool to communicate a condensed representation of your experience and achievements. In this section, we will guide you through the essential sections of your one page resume: crafting your professional summary, highlighting your relevant experience, showcasing your achievements, and including your education and certifications.
A. Crafting Your Professional Summary
Your professional summary is the first thing that recruiters will see in your resume. Creating a compelling and engaging summary will help you to stand out from other applicants. Keep in mind, that it should be concise, focused and relevant to the position you’re applying for.
Some key elements to consider when writing your professional summary are:
- Highlight your top skills, expertise, and experience.
- Mention your most relevant accomplishments.
- Use industry-specific keywords and phrases to demonstrate your knowledge.
- Communicate your career aspirations.
As a rule of thumb, your professional summary should be no longer than 3-4 lines. This section is often called the elevator pitch, think of it as an objective statement to capture the reader’s attention and encourage them to read more.
B. Highlighting Your Relevant Experience
Highlighting your relevant experience means focusing on the most relevant job experiences, skills, and accomplishments related to the job you’re applying for. Remember to switch throughout your resume to a results-oriented approach. Detail how you contributed and added value to your previous roles.
The key to highlighting relevant experience is to tailor your resume to the job description. Read the job description carefully, identify the requirements and qualifications, and use them as a guide to showcase your relevant work experience.
C. Showcasing Your Achievements
Your achievements demonstrate how you’ve contributed to and impacted the organizations you’ve worked for. When showcasing your achievements, use active language and strong verbs that showcase your success.
Here are some tips to help you showcase your achievements:
- Quantify your accomplishments with numbers, facts, and figures.
- Use bullet points to make it easier to read and present information in a structured way.
- Use persuasive language that demonstrates your ability to exceed expectations.
- Highlight achievements that are most relevant to the job position you’re applying for.
D. Including Your Education and Certifications
Your highest level of education and professional certifications can demonstrate your qualifications and your commitment to your profession. Depending on the position, this section can be placed before or after professional experience. When writing this section, make sure to highlight the relevant qualifications and certifications that are most relevant to the job you are applying for.
Writing a one page resume requires crafting a professional summary that highlights your top skills and expertise, focusing on relevant experience while showcasing your most significant achievements, and demonstrating your qualifications and certifications.
Tips for Optimizing Your One Page Resume
As technology continues to advance, it is becoming increasingly important to optimize your one-page resume to ensure that it stands out in the crowded job market. Here are four tips to help you optimize your one-page resume:
A. Incorporating Keywords
Keywords play a critical role in ensuring that your one-page resume is noticed by hiring managers and recruiters. To determine which keywords to use, take a close look at the job description and identify the skills and qualifications that are required for the position. Use those keywords throughout your resume, including in your summary, education, work experience, and skills sections.
B. Utilizing Action Words
When writing your one-page resume, it is important to use strong action words to describe your accomplishments and duties. Use words such as “achieved,” “managed,” “created,” or “implemented” to convey your achievements and responsibilities. This not only highlights your past accomplishments but also gives a glimpse of your potential impact on future employers.
C. Quantifying Your Accomplishments
While it is crucial to highlight your duties and responsibilities in your one-page resume, it is equally important to quantify your achievements. Use numbers or percentages to showcase your impact in previous roles. For example, instead of saying “led a team,” say “managed a team of ten employees, resulting in a 30% increase in productivity.” This approach highlights the value you bring to the table and can set you apart from other candidates.
D. Tailoring Your Resume for Each Job Application
Finally, tailor your one-page resume to each job application you submit. This includes using the keywords, action words, and quantified accomplishments that are relevant to the role. Be sure to also highlight how your skills and experience align with the job requirements, and customize your resume to match the company’s culture and mission.
Optimizing your one-page resume by incorporating keywords, utilizing action words, quantifying your accomplishments, and tailoring it to each job application can significantly improve your chances of landing a job interview. Use these tips to create an effective one-page resume that catches the eye of recruiters and hiring managers.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
As you craft your one page resume, there are several pitfalls that you’d want to avoid. Here are the most common errors that job applicants commit:
A. Including Irrelevant Information
One typical blunder is inserting unrelated information into your resume. It’s vital to keep your resume relevant and insightful as possible. Only mention work experience, skills, and achievements that are aligned with the job you’re applying for.
B. Overusing Industry Jargon
While it’s essential to showcase your knowledge and expertise in your field, it’s also critical to balance it out with simple and understandable language. Using too much industry-specific jargon is a turn-off for hiring managers who are non-experts in your field.
C. Failing to Proofread
Submitting a document full of grammatical and spelling errors can lead to impression that you didn’t put much effort into your application. Always proofread your resume multiple times – or better yet, get someone else to do it for you.
D. Using a Generic Resume
Tinkering a general resume won’t guarantee success in landing your dream job. Instead of using a one-fits-all approach, customize your resume for every job application. This way, you can emphasize the qualifications and accomplishments that are relevant to the job you’re applying for.
By avoiding these common resume mistakes, you’re one step closer to creating a winning one page resume.
Formatting and Design Options
When it comes to crafting your one-page resume, formatting and design options can make a huge difference in the impression you make on potential employers. Here are some considerations to keep in mind when choosing the right resume template and incorporating design elements:
A. Choosing the Right Resume Template
There are many resume templates available online, ranging from simple and straightforward to creative and extravagant. When selecting a template, it’s important to consider your industry and the type of job you’re applying for. For example, a graphic designer might opt for a more visually appealing template, while an accountant might choose a more classic and conservative look.
In addition to aesthetics, it’s important to select a template that is easy to read and presents your information in a clear and concise manner. Remember, the goal of your one-page resume is to quickly and efficiently highlight your skills and experience – not overwhelm the reader with unnecessary details.
B. Incorporating Color and Graphics
While using color and graphics can add visual interest to your resume, it’s important to use these elements sparingly and purposefully. For example, using company colors or incorporating a small icon can help your resume stand out while still maintaining a professional appearance.
However, it’s important to avoid using too many colors or too much graphic design, as this can become distracting and make it difficult for the reader to quickly find key information. Remember, the focus should always be on your skills and experience, not on fancy design elements.
C. Using White Space Effectively
One of the most important design elements of any one-page resume is white space. When used effectively, white space can make your resume look clean, organized, and easy to read. Conversely, cramming too much information into a small space can make your resume appear cluttered and overwhelming.
To use white space effectively, consider breaking up your resume into sections and using headings and subheadings to clearly define each section. You can also use bullet points and lists to make information more easily digestible.
D. Creating a Professional Look and Feel
Ultimately, the goal of your one-page resume is to create a professional and polished impression on potential employers. This means paying attention to small details like font choice, spacing, and alignment.
When selecting a font, choose something simple and easy to read, such as Arial or Times New Roman. Avoid using decorative fonts or fonts that are difficult to read. Additionally, be sure to keep your spacing and alignment consistent throughout your resume to maintain a polished and professional appearance.
By taking the time to carefully consider your formatting and design options, you can create a one-page resume that effectively showcases your skills and experience in a visually appealing and professional manner.
One Page Resume vs. Two Page Resume
When it comes to resume writing, one of the most common questions job seekers ask is whether to use a one page resume or a two page resume. Depending on your work experience and industry, the answer may vary. In this section, we will explore the pros and cons of a one page resume, when to use a two page resume, and how to convert your two page resume to one page.
A. Pros and Cons of a One Page Resume
A one page resume is typically recommended for those who are just starting out in their careers or those who have less than 10 years of professional experience. Here are some pros and cons of a one page resume:
- It is concise and to the point, making it easier for recruiters to read and understand.
- It forces you to prioritize and focus on the most important information.
- It shows that you can communicate effectively and efficiently.
- It may not be enough space to include all of your relevant work experience and accomplishments.
- It may be challenging to highlight your skills and achievements in a short format.
B. When to Use a Two Page Resume
A two page resume is typically recommended for those who have extensive work experience, advanced degrees, or multiple certifications. Here are some scenarios when a two page resume may be appropriate:
- You have previous experience in different industries or roles that are relevant to the job you are applying for.
- You have achieved significant accomplishments, such as awards, publications, or patents.
- You have advanced degrees or professional certifications that are relevant to the job you are applying for.
C. How to Convert Your Two Page Resume to One Page
If you have a lot of experience and accomplishments that you want to include on your resume but are limited to one page, do not worry. There are ways to make your two page resume fit into one page. Follow these tips:
- Start by identifying the most relevant and significant accomplishments and experiences.
- Eliminate details that are not critical or that can be discussed during the interview process.
- Use bullet points and short phrases to highlight your accomplishments and skills.
- Use a smaller font size and adjust the margins accordingly.
Whether you should use a one page resume or a two page resume depends on your experience and the job you are applying for. A one page resume is great for those who are just starting out or have limited experience, while a two page resume is suitable for those with extensive experience or advanced degrees. If you have a two page resume but need to convert it to one page, follow the tips above to ensure that you highlight your most impressive qualifications and achievements.
ATS Compatibility
When it comes to job applications, understanding how ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) work is crucial. These automated systems are designed to filter through resumes and select the most qualified candidates based on keyword matches and other criteria.
A. Understanding How ATS Works
To optimize your one page resume for ATS, you first need to understand how these systems function. Generally, ATS will scan your resume for keywords and phrases that match the job description. If your resume does not include these keywords, it may be instantly rejected by the system.
ATS also looks for specific formatting and organization. For example, it may have difficulty reading fancy fonts, text boxes, or tables. Additionally, ATS may struggle with resumes that include graphics or images.
B. Optimizing Your One Page Resume for ATS
To ensure that your one page resume passes the ATS screening, it’s important to prioritize including relevant keywords and phrases throughout your resume. This may mean tailoring your resume for each individual job application and incorporating industry-specific jargon.
In terms of formatting, it’s helpful to stick to simple, easy-to-read fonts and avoid using text boxes or tables. Instead, use concise bullet points to showcase your skills and experiences.
C. Testing Your One Page Resume with ATS
Before submitting your one page resume to any job applications, it’s a good idea to test it with ATS. There are several free online tools available that can simulate ATS screening, allowing you to see where your resume may be falling short.
By taking the time to understand how ATS works and optimizing your one page resume for these systems, you can increase your chances of getting noticed by potential employers and landing your dream job.
Reviewing and Refining Your One Page Resume
Once you have created your one page resume, it’s important to review and refine it before submitting it to potential employers. This section covers the steps you should take to ensure your resume is polished and ready to impress.
A. Getting Feedback from Others
One of the best ways to improve your one page resume is to get feedback from others. Reach out to colleagues, friends or family members who have experience in the industry you are applying for and ask them to review your resume. They might have valuable insights, suggestions or critiques that you can use to make your resume stand out.
B. Revising Your One Page Resume
Based on the feedback you receive, you should revise your one page resume accordingly. Ensure that your resume is visually appealing and easy to read, with clear headings and sections. Use action verbs and metrics to showcase your achievements and experience, and tailor your resume to the specific job you are applying for.
C. Proofreading Your One Page Resume
Before submitting your one page resume, it’s crucial to proofread it thoroughly. Look out for spelling and grammatical errors, missing information, or awkward phrasing. Double check that your contact information is accurate and up-to-date.
D. Finalizing and Submitting Your One Page Resume
Once you have revised and proofread your one page resume, it’s time to finalize it and submit it to potential employers. Save your resume as a PDF to ensure it looks the same across different devices and software. Keep in mind that your one page resume should be accompanied by a cover letter that highlights your interest in the position and why you would be a good fit for the role.
Reviewing and refining your one page resume is essential to making a strong impression on potential employers. Get feedback from others, revise your resume accordingly, proofread it thoroughly, and finalize and submit it with a cover letter that showcases your enthusiasm and qualifications for the job.

With resumes, think quality over quantity. Recruiters and hiring managers don’t like to sift through much fluff and extraneous information. Keep your resume as concise as possible so that your best attributes, skills, and accomplishments stand out. For many people, that means sticking with a one-page resume template.
Though mid-career and executive-level professionals may warrant a longer resume that extends to two full pages, if you are earlier in your career and don’t have extensive experience, it’s probably best to aim for a one-page resume format.
Following a resume template is the best way to keep the document to one page. By including only the most pertinent sections, you will call attention to the top things employers need to know about you. These sections include:
Contact information
Professional experience, education and certifications.
It’s always important to put your most recent contact information at the top of your resume so recruiters know how to get in touch with you. Include your full name, phone number, email address, city/state, and a link to your online professional page or website.
Your Name (123) 456-7890 [email protected] City, State Abbreviation Zip Code LinkedIn | Portfolio
It only takes two to three sentences to summarize what makes you a qualified candidate for a role. Start by mentioning your job title (or the title of the job you’re seeking), then highlight your top attributes, relevant skills, and recent job accomplishments. Sprinkle in some keywords from the job description to demonstrate you’re a good fit for the role.

Because you’re creating a one-page resume, keep it easily scannable. Also, make sure it passes Applicant Tracking System filters. To accomplish this, it’s a good strategy to list some of your key skills, carefully selecting hard and soft skills. When possible, align your skills with the requirements listed in the job posting. Here’s an example of 10 key skills for a nursing assistant resume :

This section is the bulk of your resume. To keep it to one page, summarize your job history in three to five succinct bullet points for each job you include. A professional experience section for a retail sales associate resume might look like this:

- Offer personalized guidance to customers in selecting unique home decor items, consistently surpassing monthly sales targets by 15% to 20%
- Cultivate strong customer relationships to exceed annual goals for loyalty program sign-ups by over 130% in the last two years
- Assist an average of 35 customers per day with transactions, questions, and recommendations, maintaining 97% customer satisfaction scores

- Led the team in upselling IKEA Family memberships, surpassing enrollment goals by 15% each month
- Assisted in training new hires, helping them integrate into the team and become effective members of the store
Resume writer’s tip: Quantify your experience
When possible, share the results of the work performance rather than simply listing your job duties. Numbers and data can be a very effective way to illustrate your value.
- “Increased revenue growth year over year by 42% by renegotiating with technology vendors.”
- “In charge of managing technology vendor relationships.”
Resume writer’s tip: Tailor your resume for each application
Having a master one-page resume template is the first step. But as you apply to various jobs, tweak your resume to align more closely with those specific positions. You can use some of the same language (target keywords) the employer mentions in the job posting and focus on any specific skill sets that are most in demand. This gives you the best opportunity of being selected to move forward in the hiring process.
What if you don’t have experience?
If you are just finishing school or haven’t yet worked in your field of interest, you may be wondering how to fill a one-page resume. Even part-time job, internship, volunteer, and school-based project experience counts. Prospective employers like people willing to learn and adapt, take on new challenges, and you have developed various skills. Also, you can spare a bit more room to list relevant coursework you’ve completed or certifications you’ve earned.
Your one-page resume should include your educational background. List all of your degrees and certifications along with the institution name and date of completion.

For over 10 years now, I've been on both sides of the fence, career counseling, and recruitment, and let me tell you, the writer's block hits hard when it comes to drafting your resume.
Novorésumé not only offers you a smart and modern template for you to fill in, but their team has also crafted a winning combo of aesthetics and functionality that will inspire you to apply for the job you thought was out of your league. Give it a try!

Former Executive Recruiter
Novorésumé is one of the few resume builders that I recommend online. Their resume templates are modern and eye-catching, and will grab an employer's attention. As a former Recruiter, if a candidate sent me a resume built with one of these templates, I would take notice and be impressed.
The software also makes it easy to enter your info and handles all of the formatting for you, so you can get your resume ready to send out as quickly as possible. I recommend these templates whether you're a recent graduate or experienced candidate.

When I consult people on resume writing, the most common question that I am asked it is about the content and what components to add or avoid, when they have less than 5 years of work experience.
On this platform, you not only have access to many options, but you get guidance on what to choose and why. When the work experience is less than 5 years, the other components such as languages, projects, volunteering experiences, hobbies etc, make a huge difference.
Resume Resources
What is a resume.
A resume is a brief summary of personal and professional experiences, skills, and education history. Its main purpose is to show off your best self to potential employers.
When applying for a job, you’re (in most cases) going to be asked for a resume accompanied by a cover letter.
If you manage to create a “good” resume, you’re going to 2x your chances of getting hired . Want to learn how? Check out our complete guide on how to make a resume .
How to Write a Resume for Your First Job?
The process of writing a resume might seem super scary to you. After all, most resume examples you see on the web are 80% about work experience. So, what the heck can you include in your resume if you have none?
Well, here’s some good news. If you’re applying for an entry-level job or an internship, no one expects you to have ANY work experience.
Instead, you should focus on what you DO have: education, projects, volunteering experience, hobbies & interests.
For a complete guide on how to make a resume with no work experience stand out, check out our article.
What to Put on a Resume?
The most common sections on a resume are:
Contact information
Resume summary or objective
Work experience
If you want to personalize your resume a bit more, you can also include the following sections:
Volunteering experience
Hobbies & interests
For more information on how to place these sections on your resume, check out our article on what to put on a resume .
How to Format a Resume?
There are 3 typical resume formats:
Reverse-Chronological Resume
Functional Resume
Combination Resume
In 99% of the cases, you’ll want to go with the Reverse Chronological resume format. That’s the format most resumes you’ve seen follow - its main focus is your work experience, written down in reverse-chronological order.
Unless you’re looking to create a career change resume , we’d recommend sticking with this format.
If you want to learn more about resume formats , check out our comparison guide.
How Long Should a Resume Be?
Ah, the most popular resume question in the world: “how long should your resume be?”
Short answer: one page. If you have a lot of work experience (10 years +), sometimes it makes sense to make it 2 pages MAX if everything you mention is super relevant for the position you’re applying for.
Long answer: check out our guide on how long should a resume be .
P.S. all of our templates are one-page resume templates, so you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble sticking to the one-page limit!
How to Write a Resume Summary?
Your resume summary is a “hook” that goes on top of your resume. Think of it as an introduction to the rest of your resume. It should, in 2-4 sentences, explain what your background is, and why it’s relevant for the position you’re applying for.
Want your resume summary to stand out? Use this proven formula:
“Professional [job title] with X+ years of work experience in [job responsibility] . In the past Y years, I have [your top 1-2 achivements] . Seeking a position of [job title] at [company name] ”
To learn more about how to create a resume summary that excels, check out our guide.
On the other hand, if you’re a student or just don’t have a lot of work experience, read our article on how to create a resume objective instead.
How to List Work Experience on a Resume
Work experience on a resume is one of those things that’s easy to learn, hard to master.
Each work experience entry should contain the following:
Position title
Company name/description/location
Achievements or responsibilities
Dates employed
Now, if you want to create a work experience section that stands out , you want to focus on quantifiable achievements. What this means is, instead of creating an entry like:
“Carried out sales operations”
You list an achievement:
“Hit and exceeded monthly sales KPIs for 5 months in a row.”
This shows the employer that you’re not just a random candidate, you’re an A-player! To learn more about how to list achievements in your work experience (and land the job), check out our article.
How to List Skills on a Resume?
Simply create a ”skills” section on your Novorésumé resume template, and list your top skills. We usually recommend going for a mix of hard and soft skills.
Not sure what skills to include in your resume? Check out these 101 essential skills for any resume .
How to Make a Cover Letter For a Resume?
Every job application asks for a cover letter (in addition to your resume). Here are some of our tips on how to do this right:
Customize your cover letter to the employer. The more personalized it is, the more likely it is for the recruiter to like you
Outline your general background (work experience, profession, etc.) and mention your top 2-3 achievements to show off your skills
If you really want to stand out, create a cover letter that matches your resume template. To do this, you can use one of our cover letter templates here.
If you want to learn more about how to write a convincing cover letter , check out our comprehensive guide.
What is the Best Resume Template?
There’s no such thing as “the best resume template” - every recruiter/employer has their own personal preference. Our general recommendation is to do your research on the company and what their values are.
For example, if you’re applying for a position at a bank, you’d want a more professional resume template. On the other hand, if you want a job in a startup where they value innovation more, you should stick to a creative resume template .
Finally, if you’re still not sure which type of template is right for the job you’re applying for, you can just use a simple resume template just to be safe.

A Breakdown of a Successful One Page Resume – And How to Write Yours
In This Guide:
Should your resume be one page, how to fit 25 years of experience in a single page – william’s one-page resume., a ceo and co-founder’s one-page resume – how pavel fit his professional life on a single page., founder, director, and vp of product – gal’s double-column single-page resume., how to write your resume to fit on one page – a handful of actionable resume tips., key takeaways.
Having a one-page resume is possible, even if you have decades of experience behind your back.
In this article, we’ll analyze concrete examples of one-page resumes built by Enhancv users – from William, a Japanese entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience to Pavel whose professional background took him to three countries, and Gal that has spent a decade in the product management and business development world.
All three of them share one common thing – a single-page resume.
So, how do you fit that many years of experience into an effective resume without omitting important details?
Keep reading and you’ll learn:
- If your resume should be one page long.
- How to focus on relevant skills and experience to cut down your resume to a single page.
- Which resume sections are a must in single-page resumes.
Alex Lafreniere, a happy user, shared this:
“Hands down the best and most intuitive resume builder I've used. Go for the pro plan - it's the best bang for your buck. You get a lot more sections, which helps with the different variations of your cv, especially if you want to tailor it to different industries."
BUILD MY ONE PAGE RESUME
Yes, your resume can be one page, regardless of experience. Single-page resumes focus on the most relevant parts of your work history. Put important and relevant information first, as this makes for an efficient format for any professional field.
If you can’t fit all relevant experience on a single page, only then go for a two-page resume.
How to make a one-page resume if you have a ton of experience?
The secret to making a one-page resume when you have 10, 15, or even more than 20 years of work experience is to include information that’s highly relevant to the job you’re applying for.
Study the job description – hiring managers usually include what experience and skillset they’re looking for. Show that. Remember, that may mean you’ll have to make a tailored resume for each job position you apply for.
Thankfully, with Enhancv you can easily copy, edit and download your resumes as many times as you need. It also saves time that you don’t have to worry about design or layout – check our resume builder .
So, does a resume have to be one page?"?
A resounding no. Professionals with a lot of relevant experience in a field can benefit from two or even three-page resumes . If you’ve spent the past 15 years working as a business transformation manager and you have a lot of examples to communicate on your resume, then definitely go with a longer one.
Does it mean the one-page resume format is dead?
No. A resume should focus on your relevant experience and give insight into the impact you’ve had at previous companies you’ve worked for and give a glimpse into who you are .
Fit all three on a single page and you’ve got yourself a pretty impactful resume. In the examples we’re going to review below, we’ve made sure to analyze how each has made their resume.
William’s single-page resume takes advantage of our compact resume format . The best way to fit more information on a single page is by browsing the Enhancv resume templates and choosing a two or three-column layout .
With a single click, you can fit around 50% more content on a single page, compared to what a Microsoft Word template allows you to do.
Still, William took things up a notch. Here’s what he did especially well when writing his resume.
Right under his name, William wrote what defines him as a professional: “Entrepreneur, keynote speaker, advisor & cyber czar’’. This quickly gives you an idea of the kind of jobs he’s held previously, and what is most significant about his career – all in seven words and contained to the resume header.
Next, William shared his life motto in a single sentence: “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity”. A simple quote can speak volumes about you as a person and your attitude to work and life itself.
Beyond showing how you see the world, it signals to companies whether you might fit into their culture. This shows us that William is not the kind of person that gives up. He perceives problems as opportunities.
Taken together, these sections give a brief and quick insight into who William is and the energy he would bring to his role and the team. As opposed to a lengthy personal summary, William said all he needed to in two short sentences. Now, let’s continue with William’s experience section…
William includes 3 jobs within his experience section. These are the most recent and significant jobs that relate to the field he hopes to work in. They’re also quite diverse.
Rather than writing pages on every job he has ever had, he has tailored his experience to three impactful descriptions of the jobs that relate most to the job vacancy.
He also decided to name the section Entrepreneurial Experience . This suggests that it covers only a portion of his work experience. This is a case where careful decision-making really pays off.
William goes on to make use of an Enhancv exclusive – the “My Time” section. This allows users to show their time spent during the week or a typical day-in-the-life.
For example, the section makes it obvious that Cybersecurity is something he does best. Again, using this quick visual saves a ton of space.
Furthermore, William utilizes an awards section to mention advising the Japanese Government as well as over twenty tech companies regarding business, technology, and security.
His other point is ‘’Giving back to the community’’, where he mentions that he’s been supporting charitable and community-based organizations. This saved William another page where he listed all his advisory positions and achievements. All in a few sentences, with bits of his character.
William backs up his previous experience with a notable metric that shows his impact on the bottom line. In a few short words, we see the results of his work. His Authored Books section (another section offered by Enhancv) contributes to this, too. Here, we get a quick visual of the books he’s published, rather than a long description that would take up many paragraphs.
Pavel’s resume is a great example of someone who has taken our modern resume template and made the most of it.
Pavel has utilized the Technology section of our resume builder to give a snapshot of the programs he is familiar with. Here, we see five highlighted technologies. It’s simple but effective. This cuts down on writing full sentences to show what systems you’re comfortable with.
Taking a look at Pavel’s experience section, we can see how job-rich it is. We’re looking at 6 job titles – from a researcher to a co-founder and CEO. Data science is a relatively new and expansive area of tech.
For this reason, it’s beneficial to include as many previous experiences as you can that relate to possible duties. Each job is accompanied by a quick bullet point that explains all of Pavel’s responsibilities, and everything is written concisely.
Much like William, Pavel intertwines his impact with his previous experience by providing a significant metric to measure his achievements.
For example, he showed the moon and stars to 5000+ people.
This short description focuses the recruiter on tangible evidence that does not take up a lot of space. If a recruiter wants to know more, they will ask in an interview or over email.
Pavel’s experience is further explained in a simple list of his Selected Courses . Here, space is saved by collecting all relevant and important courses he’s taken in a single section. The titles are enough for the recruiter to understand his skill.
Gal shows us that any resume template can be used when building a one-pager. Using Enhancv’s staple – the double-column resume – Gal makes an impact without drawing things out.
Accomplishing this in two-three sentences will do wonders to signal to companies that you fit within their culture – ultimately getting you an interview sooner.
Gal makes use of Enhancv’s technologies section but renames it as an “Expertise” section. With this, the recruiter can easily see that Gal is gifted when it comes to B2B, B2C, SaaS, and more. This is an excellent example of cutting paragraphs down to singular words with the same impact.
Again, Gal introduces his impact by providing a significant metric to measure his achievements. For example, “driving 50% to 100% annual revenue growth”. This captures his ability in one bullet point, as opposed to several sentences on ways he brought a change in a previous company.
Whether you’ve got 25 years, a decade, or a month of experience, making a strong impression is essential. A single-page resume helps you do that.
We gathered the career counseling team at Enhancv and put all their know-how around writing impactful one-page resumes.
Use a double-column or compact resume template.".
A one-pager resume with plenty of experience will not fit on a single-column template. At Enhancv, our double-column template is specifically designed to meet applicant tracking systems requirements and with one-page resumes in mind. You can fit up 50% more information compared to what general resume templates allow for.
Write short, action-oriented bullet points.
Cut the fluff and focus on the make-it-or-break-it moments in your career. Stick to active words and use buzzwords properly .
Draw inspiration from the examples above, or recollect the moments that made you the professional you are today. If you need more inspiration, we have over 500 job-specific resume examples for you to explore and inspire from.
Use smaller fonts.
Choose a smaller font size but make sure the text remains legible. Size 10 or 11 looks fine and passes readability checks, anything smaller would make your resume hard to read.
Fonts like Oswald , Bitter , and Volkhov are more compact and allow you to fit more text on a single page.
Remove unnecessary sections.
When you have a lot of relevant experience, you can skip the Education section. Unless you have Cum Laude from an Ivy League university, you’re generally okay with not including your education. Leave off references as well, unless they’re highly relevant for the job position.
Make sure that your summary is short but packed full of information. It’s the best way to communicate who you are and your skill set in a single sentence.
Decrease the margins' size.
When you decrease the margins of your resumes you get to add more information, however, you have to keep in mind the readability of your resume. No hiring manager wants to read a wall of text.
Enhancv’s resume builder has in-built resume margins you can switch between that still keep your resume readable and easy on the eye.
Use creative sections to spotlight career milestones.
One-page creative resumes are the hardest to make. We’ve compiled over 20 creative resumes for you to check out. You can make your very own by signing up for Enhancv –– or you can hire our career counselors to help you make your resume .
Single-page resumes seem difficult to create until you get the hang of it –– focus only on experience and skills that show how you can make an impact in the company you’re applying at.
- Cut the extra fluff. Choose only the relevant, result-driven information.
- Use different sections to reframe and communicate your experience in short and engaging ways.
- Choose an Enhancv resume template and focus only on the information and not the design.
- Focus on font size and margins to fit as much information as possible.

One Page Resumes: Your Complete Guide Being Concise and Impactful (With Examples)
3 key takeaways
- Why you should consider a one-page resume
- Examples of one-page resumes (and why they're effective)
- How to use the Teal AI Resume Builder to format a one-page resume template quickly and easily
One-page resumes—they might sound too good (or too short) to be true.
But knowing how to showcase the incredible things you’ve done and all that you’re capable of in one concise, impactful document could be the key to grabbing attention and standing out from the competition.
Why consider a one-page resume?
In today's job market, the one-page resume has become increasingly popular. And just as the sun set on the VHS resumes of the 1980s, gone are the days of listing every job and responsibility and exhaustively detailing all of your skills.
The market is saturated with so many job seekers. Many of whom are extremely talented. This means hiring managers and recruiters are inundated with countless applications. They simply don't have the capacity to navigate lengthy documents. A concise and well-structured one-page resume allows them to assess your qualifications and how they align with an open role—quickly.
When should a resume be one page?
Should a resume be one page? That depends. One-page resume templates aren't always the best option for every candidate or every role. But there are specific scenarios where they're particularly beneficial. If you find yourself in any of the following situations, a one-page resume format might be ideal.
- For recent high school or college graduates or professionals with limited work experience
- For anyone in the first 1-5 years of their career
- In fields that value brevity
- In industries that prioritize concise communication (like communication or public relations)
Understanding one-page resume format
Learning how to make a resume one page often comes down to two elements: the sections you include and strategic formatting.
One-page resume sections
When creating a one-page resume, it's crucial to include the following sections:
- Contact Information: Your name, city, phone number, email address, LinkedIn URL, and portfolio link (if applicable)
- Professional Summary: A concise introduction highlighting your key qualifications and one or two notable achievements that showcase impact.
- Work Experience: Showcase your relevant work experience in reverse chronological order, emphasizing achievements listed as bullet points that align with your desired role.
- Education: Mention your educational background, including degrees, certifications, (and any notable academic achievements if you're a recent graduate).
- Skills: Highlight your core skills and competencies directly relevant to the job you're applying for. Consider tailoring this section to match the keywords mentioned in the job posting.
Pro Tip: The Teal Job Application Tracker pulls keywords and other important language from the job description to help you tailor your resume for every role.
One-page resume template format
So, keeping those necessary sections in mind and with limited space, how can you make the most of your resume template format?
- Use concise language: Be clear and succinct in your descriptions, avoiding unnecessary details or excessive wordiness.
- Prioritize relevant information: Focus on the most recent and relevant experiences, skills, and achievements that align with the job you're applying for.
- Choose a clean and readable font: Opt for a professional and legible font style, keeping the font size between 10 and 12 points.
- Utilize bullet points: Use bullet points to highlight key points and achievements, making your resume easier to scan and read quickly.
- Reduce margins and spacing: Adjust the margins to save space without making your resume appear cluttered. Do your best to keep your resume margins between 0.5" - 1."
The formatting tool within the Teal AI Resume Builder can help you quickly and easily optimize your resume's physical structure by customizing elements like font, margins, template style, and more in one location with a single click.
Does a resume have to be one page? Debunking the myth
Much like any "general recommendation," the one-page resume guideline isn't always applicable.
Every job seeker has different a different skill set, professional experience, and expertise. And where one candidate might exclusively have academic projects to showcase, another might have 20+ years of straightforward work experience in the same career with progressing responsibilities.
So while a single-page resume might be great a great option for some, there are particular situations and circumstances where your experience might impact, “ How long should a resume be ?”
A multi-page resume might be more appropriate if you:
- Have a career in academia, scientific research, or government
- Have more than 15 years of experience
- Are an executive leader
- Are a C-suite level applicant
How to make a resume one page without losing value
A resume is your personal marketing tool. So how can you market yourself effectively on a one-page resume without losing value?
Be selective with content
Carefully review your background, skills, and accomplishments, and choose the most relevant experiences for the job you're applying to.
Your content should be tailored to the job description—only addressing what the hiring manager or recruiter is looking for. Even if it feels hard, eliminate irrelevant or outdated information to create space for more essential details.
Focus on achievements
Instead of listing all your responsibilities, emphasize your resume accomplishments and quantifiable results. Highlight valuable information like specific achievements demonstrating your skills and impact in previous roles.
For example, you don't need to list that you managed social media accounts and created content. Instead, using an achievement like "Increased social media engagement by 50% within three months through the implementation of targeted content strategies, resulting in a significant boost in brand visibility and customer interaction." highlights the responsibility while drawing attention to your impact.
Prioritize the most relevant information
Place the most relevant information towards the top of your resume. Your strongest qualifications (those with the most impact) should be easily accessible.
It's also important to prioritize details within each section. For example, in the "Work Experience" section, only focus on accomplishments, projects, and responsibilities that demonstrate the skills and experiences most relevant to the job you're applying for. Or, if you find yourself short on space in the "Education" section, focus on your highest level of education.
One-page resumes vs. two-page resumes: which is better for you?
The decision between a single-page resume template or a two-page resume depends on your unique career journey, industry, the role you are applying for, and your overall professional goals.
A one-page resume can be valuable if you have limited work experience or are in the first 10-15 years of your career. It allows you to concisely highlight your relevant skills, education, internships, and notable achievements.
On the other hand, professionals with several years of experience, mid-level or senior-level positions, or those in fields that require extensive documentation of achievements may benefit from a two-page resume to detail their work history, leadership roles, specialized skills, and other relevant accomplishments.
So what are the pros and cons of each format?
One-page resume pros:
- Concise and focused
- Quick and easy to read
- Ideal for those early in their career
One-page resume cons:
- Limited space
- May lack comprehensive detail
Two-page resume pros:
- Comprehensive representation
- Suitable for experienced professionals
- Flexibility in presentation
Two-page resume cons:
- Risk of excessive detail
- Time-consuming review
- Printing, formatting, and resume template constraints
Ultimately? The best resume format is the one that aligns with your career journey, industry, the role you’re applying for, and overall professional goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it okay to have a one page resume.
Yes! Just remember to prioritize your relevant and recent work experience. Be sure to include positions that align with the job you're applying for and highlight accomplishments and responsibilities that demonstrate your skills and qualifications.
Is a two page resume ever okay?
Absolutely! Just focus on refining and condensing your content. Remove any irrelevant or outdated details and prioritize the most impactful and relevant information. Utilize concise language, bullet points, and strategic formatting to make the most of the available space.
How far back should a resume go?
A well-crafted one-page resume should effectively showcase your qualifications and achievements to make a strong impression on hiring managers. It's about presenting the most relevant and impactful information rather than the length of the document. Focus on at least the last ten years of your experience, but be mindful that you should include positions that are relevant to the job you're applying for, so if that ends up being fifteen years of your experience, that's okay, too. The key is relevance.

One-Page Resume
One of the factors that employers would look into in the hiring process is the resume. A resume with a lot of information in it is a red flag for them since they would only usually spend seconds reading one. Because of this case, you, as an applicant, are only to hand over a one-page resume, especially if there is no need for more than a page.

Our Ranking Methodology for Best Resume Writing Services
To comprehensively and objectively rank the top resume writing services, it is essential to have a thorough methodology. The first step in this process was conducting extensive research and analysis. This involved gathering a comprehensive list of reputable resume-writing services from multiple sources such as online searches, customer reviews, industry directories, and personal recommendations.
- Feature analysis: Evaluate the functionalities provided by each resume builder, considering elements like template variety and quality, customization flexibility, user-friendly editing and formatting options, import/export capabilities, spell check and grammar tools, and integration with job search platforms and professional networks.
- Template collection: Examine the assortment and quality of templates. Look for a wide range that suits various industries, job levels, and design preferences, considering these templates’ aesthetics, readability, and contemporary design.
- Editing and customization: Scrutinize the adaptability and user-friendliness of the editing and customization tools each resume builder provides. Assess the capacity to add or modify sections, reorganize content, and tailor resumes to specific job requirements.
- User interface and experience: Analyze the user interface and the overall user experience each resume builder offers. Evaluate the ease of navigation, instruction clarity, guidance or prompts, and the platform’s responsiveness.
- Integration with job search platforms: Determine whether resume builders offer seamless integration with popular job search platforms and professional networks like LinkedIn or ATS systems. Consider how well the resumes can be transferred and their compatibility with these platforms.
- Additional resources: Evaluate if the resume builders provide extra resources such as sample resumes, tools for creating cover letters, interview tips, or career advice. Consider the breadth and practicality of these supplementary resources.
- Mobile-friendliness: Gauge the mobile-friendliness and responsiveness of the resume builders, recognizing the growing trend of mobile job searching and application processes.
- Customer support: Reflect on the accessibility and quality of customer support services, encompassing options like live chat, email support, or knowledge bases. Assess the responsiveness and helpfulness of the support team.
- Pricing and value for money: Appraise the pricing plans presented by the resume builders in terms of the value they offer based on features, usability, and overall service quality.
- Industry reputation: Consider the standing and trustworthiness of the resume builders, considering factors such as awards, recognition, partnerships, and user feedback from reputable sources.
Buyer’s Guide: Why Use a Resume Builder?
Crafting a well-crafted CV comes naturally to particular job seekers. However, even the most seasoned experts may need help in resume writing. If you find yourself in need of help with creating a compelling resume, here are several ways in which the best online resume builder can be beneficial:
Resume builders provide users with pre-designed templates and helpful tips, streamlining the process of writing a resume and alleviating stress.
Offers Writing Tips
Promoting oneself requires considerable effort. Only some people possess writing skills, even if they enjoy self-promotion. To showcase one’s experience and knowledge effectively, a resume builder can help select the most appropriate words and phrases.
Improves Design
In every field, there are unique standards for an impressive resume. If you need to gain knowledge in design or the tools, resume builders can provide free templates to enhance your resume’s visual appeal and quality.
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)
Recruiters often use ATS systems to scan resumes. A good resume builder will help with formatting to ensure that your resume is easy for these systems to read.
What’s the Best Resume Builder?
The ideal resume builder for each individual may differ according to their specific requirements. If you prefer a tool that offers step-by-step guidance in creating your resume, we suggest using a builder that provides helpful tips and recommendations. If you prefer a resume builder that auto-generates a summary, we recommend using a tool that extracts information from your LinkedIn profile.
For those who enjoy having creative control over their resumes, we suggest using a platform with features. By selecting the resume builder that aligns with your needs and suits your industry and personal style, you’ll significantly increase your chances of capturing the attention of hiring managers.
Resume Builder vs. Resume Writing Service: What Matters for You
When it comes to crafting a resume, there are three options available. You can opt to create it independently, use a resume builder tool, or enlist the services of a professional resume writer. Your best choice will depend on your writing abilities, available time, and financial resources.

You have the choice to construct a resume entirely by yourself. The benefit of this option is that it costs nothing but requires a significant amount of effort. Along with composing all the information, you must possess graphic design skills.
This approach works well if you have these abilities, but with them, your options for creating a resume are unlimited. To overcome this limitation, you can use a resume builder or enlist the help of a resume writing service.
Resume Builder
A tool for creating resumes allows you to input your details into a template, resulting in an original appearance and layout with no design work. The top resume building tools also offer suggestions on enhancing your resume and tailoring it to match the specific job you are applying for.
While you are still responsible for writing the content, once it is written, you can quickly transfer that information into any other template with just a few simple clicks. Some of these services are free and many like to promote themselves as such, but most require a small payment to download your finished resume.
Professional Resume Writing Service
Professional resume writing services are expensive, but they offer the convenience of handling all the work for you. An experienced writer will gather relevant information about your background and transform it into a unique and engaging resume.
The process typically takes a few days, and the level of originality in the outcome largely relies on your choice of company and writer. However, we will not delve into these services further in this guide.
Are Resume Builders Worth It?
Definitely, without a doubt. An effective resume creator will guarantee that your CV is formatted correctly to navigate Applicant Tracking Systems and ultimately reach the hands of recruiters.
Is It Unprofessional to Use a Microsoft Word Resume Template?
Relying on a template will not set you apart, and there is a high likelihood that your application will be dismissed because your resume is identical to those of other job seekers.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right resume builder is crucial in today’s competitive job market. Creating a professional and impactful resume that stands out from the crowd can significantly impact your job search. With the right tool, you can save time, improve your chances of landing an interview, and ultimately secure your dream job.
When selecting a resume builder, consider your specific needs and priorities. Look for features like customizable templates, industry-specific examples, and the ability to export your resume in different formats. Consider user reviews and ratings to ensure you choose a reputable and reliable platform.
Remember, an exceptional tool for crafting resumes should give you the power to present your skills, experience, and accomplishments effectively. It should simplify and expedite creating a resume without hassle. Investing in a reliable resume builder is investing in your professional future.

Mercedes reveal ‘double-edged sword’ created by revamped F1 Sprint format
The Sprint race parc ferme rules allowed Mercedes to make changes to their cars after the Sprint.
Mercedes’ James Allison has revealed how the change of parc ferme regulations for Sprint weekends affected their Chinese GP.
For 2024, the parc ferme regulations for Sprint race weekends has changed, allowing teams to make setup changes to their cars after the conclusion of the Sprint race.
James Allison: Parc ferme rule changes a ‘very welcome adjustment’
In previous years of the Sprint format, the teams had just one hour of practice on Friday before being locked into their setups for the rest of the weekend – including Sprint qualifying, the Sprint race, the Grand Prix qualifying, and the Grand Prix itself.
An error in setup could thus ruin your whole weekend, but the rules have been tweaked this year to allow the teams to enter parc ferme conditions at two different times.
With setups locked in place for the Sprint running, the teams can then make changes ahead of Grand Prix qualifying before being locked in again for that session and the Grand Prix.
It led to the unusual scenario witnessed in China where Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was a star performer in the Sprint – leading the race early on and finishing a competitive second – only for a setup change to send him spiralling to the back of the grid and an 18th place grid slot before racing to ninth on Sunday.
Mercedes’ technical director James Allison spoke of the parc ferme rule changes in the team’s Chinese Grand Prix debrief, and revealed how it was a welcome change for everyone.
“The Sprint weekends normally fill the engineers with a degree of trepidation because there, in the past, has been just one frantic hour of getting everything ready and then you’ve sealed your fate for the weekend,” he said.
“You just had to watch that play out like clockwork, either good or bad, for the remaining sessions of sprint quali, sprint race, quali, real race.
“This time round, a very welcome adjustment for this year, we have the Sprint race and the main race separated by a period where we can work a bit on the cars. Two periods of parc ferme, so opening it up so we can do some alterations at the end of the Sprint race before the main qualifying and then onto the real race.
“That is great because it gives you a chance to rescue yourself if you’ve made a mistake in the sprint part of the weekend. And so something that we were quite pleased with, quite happy to see go into the regulations.”
But, with Mercedes having made a mistake with their setup direction for the Grand Prix, Allison admitted to how it presented a whole new pitfall – having been running a competitive setup, only to make the mistake of making the wrong changes.
“Unfortunately, it’s also a double-edged sword,” he said.
“So if you use that period wisely, great, you can then be better for the main race, the main event, than you were in the Sprint race.
“But, if you screw up in that second adjustment, then it can actually be worse for you in the main race.
“But I think overall, it’s a great change to the rules, allows more flexibility through the weekend, and something we were looking forward to.”

James Allison: Hats off to Lewis Hamilton for a well-controlled drive
While Hamilton qualified second for the Sprint, and held onto that second place in the 19-lap race, Allison said it had come as a surprise that the seven-time World Champion was able to secure that position.
“If I’m honest, no, I didn’t expect that we would hang on to P2 because I don’t think the car’s quick enough to merit that at the moment,” he said.
“The rain was a tricky thing for everybody in Sprint Qualifying. I think we’ve got to take our hats off to Lewis for absolutely getting it together in incredibly difficult circumstances in that sprint quali and the cars were going off the track left, right, and centre. And he hit it very cleanly and deserved that place, that P2 on the grid.
“But in the dry conditions of the Sprint race, I felt we were likely to get swallowed up by the two Red Bulls, by others as well, because we do have a pace difference to the leading cars at the moment and there’s no point denying that.
“However, we were, I think, a little bit, you know, things went our way a little bit with the way that Norris fell off the pace, did a poor start, and disappeared backward. And with Fernando then being at the head of the faster cars, they took a while to find their way past him and that bought us some breathing space.
“I don’t want to downplay the achievement because I think it was a very, very well-controlled drive by Lewis who got the absolute max out of the car in that day and it was a welcome tonic for all of us to, first of all, put the car in a decent grid slot and then bring it to the flag in that same position.
“But I think the circumstances of the race helped us a little bit with Fernando acting as that buffer between us and the faster guys.”

Improving text editing on the web, one feature at a time
- Microsoft Edge Team
The web’s success is due, in big parts, to its ability to support text entry and form submissions. In other words, entering text on webpages is a fundamental part of the web, which we’ve all used.
But today’s modern web applications go even further and let you edit entire documents, spreadsheets, or presentations. Other applications let you write code, chat with friends, or write emails.
Even though the use cases are very diverse, the underlying technology hasn’t changed much since the early days of the web. the HTML input and textarea elements are still the primary ways to enter text, and they work great. For more advanced use cases, web developers often rely on the contenteditable HTML attribute, which lets you capture rich text input.
These text editing primitives are powerful, but building advanced experiences still comes with a lot of challenges and sometimes requires less than ideal workarounds.
On the Microsoft Edge team, we’re very familiar with these challenges and work hand in hand with our partners to make text editing on the web a better experience for everyone.
In this article, we’ll share a few important improvements that we’ve recently made to Microsoft Edge and to the web platform, which we’re very excited about:
- Rewriting text with AI.
- Writing with digital pens directly on web pages.
- Building text editors that support advanced text-editing surfaces.
- Improving clipboard access APIs.
- And controlling text prediction features.
Rewrite text with Copilot
Starting with version 124, Microsoft Edge’s AI Compose feature becomes available inline, within editable text areas of a document.
Select a section of text that’s displayed in an editable field and click the Copilot icon to start rewriting that section, by iterating through different AI-generated proposals.
You can change the tone, format, or length settings to your needs.
Being able to access Copilot directly within input fields can save time and avoid context switching. But we also realize that not all text editable surfaces on the web need this capability, so we’re also introducing the writingsuggestions HTML attribute to disable it. More on this attribute at the end of this article.
Write in any text field with a digital pen
Windows Ink allows you to write with a digital pen directly into an input field on Windows touch devices. This helps you stay in your workflow by reducing the need to switch back and forth between your keyboard and digital pen.
Microsoft Edge now also supports Windows Ink in places such as textarea elements, input elements, elements with the contenteditable attribute, or the browser address bar.
With Windows Ink support in Microsoft Edge, you can:
- Enter text by writing with a pen in, or near an input field.
- Delete text by scribbling over words to delete them.
- Add or remove spaces by drawing vertical lines in the text.
- Add line breaks by drawing horizontal lines.
Windows Ink can save a lot of time when interacting with webpages with a digital pen, and we would love to hear what you think and how we can improve the feature.
Note that you can toggle the feature in Microsoft Edge by going to edge://settings/content/HandwritingToText in a browser window.
Build rich text editors that support advanced input methods
Today’s text editing techniques on the web make it hard to truly decouple the text input logic from the text rendering logic. Custom text editors often must use a hidden element that uses the contenteditable attribute to capture text input events, and then render the text separately, which often comes with accessibility issues.
To help with this, we shipped the EditContext API in Chromium to make it possible to create custom web text editors that support advanced input methods and avoid hacky solutions. The API is available in Microsoft Edge starting with 121, and in other Chromium-based browsers.
With the EditContext API, web developers can receive text input events directly through the API surface, which removes unnecessary complexity in the code, enhances accessibility, and lets developers create their own custom view of the edited text. For example, you can use the API to render the edited text in a <canvas> element if you want.
The API supports text-editing UI surfaces that a user might be composing text with at the operating system level, such as IME composition dialogs. It even supports Windows Ink.
To learn more about the EditContext API, check out our previous announcement , and the API’s reference documentation on MDN .
Copy & paste HTML
Text editing webapps often encounter clipboard issues when copying and pasting HTML formatted content. Sometimes, the format is lost, other times, the clipboard payload is much more complicated than it should.
To address this, we introduced the unsanitized option to the navigator.clipboard.read() method, allowing web applications to choose when they want to receive the full HTML content, rather than a browser-sanitized version of the HTML.
To learn more about how to use the option, check out the Clipboard read() method documentation on MDN .
This API has already helped us improve Excel Online by addressing several top copy-paste issues affecting the app. We shipped the API in Chromium, making it available to all Chromium-based browsers, including Microsoft Edge starting with version 122.
Detect supported clipboard formats
When writing data to the system clipboard, by using the Clipboard API , web developers have no way of knowing if the data they’re trying to write is supported. This means that they must first attempt to write the data to the clipboard and then check whether the write operation failed due to an unsupported data format.
This leads to more complex code and unnecessary cost in terms of CPU cycles.
To fix this, we’ve added a new static method to the ClipboardItem interface called supports() , which makes it possible to detect supported clipboard formats before attempting to write data. For example, to test if the text/html mime-type is supported, use ClipboardItem.supports("text/html") .
This new method shipped with Microsoft Edge 121, and is available in other Chromium browsers too.
Control the browser’s text prediction feature
As mentioned before, Microsoft Edge lets you rewrite text with the inline Compose feature. Edge can also predict text as you type, with the text prediction feature . Text prediction makes writing much faster by completing sentences.
However, we realize that not all text editing surfaces on the web want the text prediction or inline Compose features available at all times. So, starting with version 124, we’re introducing a new HTML attribute called writingsuggestions . The new attribute can be used to turn off text prediction and inline Compose on any editor element. To learn more, check out our explainer document , and the attribute’s specification .
The new writingsuggestions attribute is now part of the Chromium codebase, making it available to all Chromium-based browsers. However, because Microsoft Edge is currently the only browser to have access to these text prediction and rewriting features, the attribute doesn’t have any effect in other browsers.
Text editing on the web is more important than ever, and we can continue making the user and developer experience better with new APIs and browser features that address specific challenges. We hope the improvements described in this article are useful to you.
As always, we’d love to know what you think or if you spot any issues! To reach out, click the … button in the top-right corner of Microsoft Edge, and then go to Help and feedback > Send feedback .

One in Five Milk Samples Nationwide Shows Genetic Traces of Bird Flu
There is no evidence that the milk is unsafe to drink, scientists say. But the survey result strongly hints that the outbreak may be widespread.

By Emily Anthes and Noah Weiland
Federal regulators have discovered fragments of bird flu virus in roughly 20 percent of retail milk samples tested in a nationally representative study, the Food and Drug Administration said in an online update on Thursday.
Samples from parts of the country that are known to have dairy herds infected with the virus were more likely to test positive, the agency said. Regulators said that there is no evidence that this milk poses a danger to consumers or that live virus is present in the milk on store shelves, an assessment public health experts have agreed with.
But finding traces of the virus in such a high share of samples from around the country is the strongest signal yet that the bird flu outbreak in dairy cows is more extensive than the official tally of 33 infected herds across eight states.
“It suggests that there is a whole lot of this virus out there,” said Richard Webby, a virologist and influenza expert at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dr. Webby said that he believed it was still possible to eradicate the virus, which is known as H5N1, from the nation’s dairy farms. But it will be difficult to design effective control measures without knowing the scope of the outbreak, he said.
The findings also raise questions about how the virus has evaded detection and where else it might be silently spreading. Some scientists have criticized the federal testing strategy as too limited to reveal the true extent of viral spread.
Until Wednesday, when the Department of Agriculture announced mandatory testing of dairy cows moving across state lines, testing of cows had been voluntary and primarily focused on cows with obvious symptoms.
As of Wednesday, just 23 people had been tested for the virus, while 44 people were being monitored after exposure to it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A widespread outbreak in cows would pose a greater risk to farm workers, the dairy industry and public health more broadly. Sustained spread among cows would give the virus more opportunities to acquire mutations that make it more transmissible among humans.
The F.D.A. did not provide details on Thursday regarding the number or sources of the samples.
“You’d want to go not just to the places you knew there was activity and cows — you want to go to places where at least there’s no reported” bird flu, Dr. Webby said.
Experts believe that the process of pasteurization, in which milk is briefly heated, should inactivate this bird flu virus, which known as H5N1.
“And when you destroy the virus, it’s going to release genetic material,” said Samuel Alcaine, a microbiologist and food scientist at Cornell University. The genetic fragments left behind are not capable of causing infection.
“It’s not surprising” to find them in milk, he added. “It doesn’t mean that the milk is not safe.”
Federal officials are still conducting the time-intensive tests required to determine whether any viable virus remains in the milk after pasteurization. Scientists have said that prospect is very unlikely.
Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said at a news briefing Wednesday that some federally sponsored researchers had tested for live virus in retail milk but had not found any, a sign that pasteurization had killed the virus before the milk reached grocery shelves.
Dr. Marrazzo cautioned that while the results were a small sample, the findings were “welcome news.”
“To really understand the scope here, we need to wait for the F.D.A. efforts,” she said.
Finding traces of the virus in 20 percent of commercial milk samples does not mean that 20 percent of the nation’s dairy herds are infected, experts cautioned. “It’s too early to try to do that back-of-the-napkin kind of calculation,” Dr. Alcaine said.
Milk from several farms is typically pooled. If the virus turns up in lots of milk samples drawn from one pool, it could mean that many cows are infected — or that a smaller number of infected cows are shedding large quantities of virus, Dr. Alcaine said.
Even in the latter case, however, a 20 percent positivity rate would suggest far more than 33 herds are infected, he noted.
In the Wednesday news briefing, Dr. Donald A. Prater, the acting director of the F.D.A.’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, pointed to the novelty of the research effort. No studies have ever been completed on the effects of pasteurization on the bird flu virus in milk, he said.
Regulators were examining milk at various points in the commercial supply chain, he added, including milk on grocery shelves, as well as studying potential differences among milk products, such as those between whole milk and cream, Dr. Prater said.
