Addiction of a different kind, “true love waits.”.

“Learn to wait for the perfect time so that you may discover that ‘ALL’ the pain found in waiting has a magnificent & awesome purpose.”

  • The act of remaining inactive or stationary.
  • A period of time spent waiting.
  • Absent; lacking.
  • Not measuring up to standards or expectations.

Filipinos embracing purity message of True Love Waits

true love waits essay tagalog

Share this post:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–“What the youth need today is love education, not sex education,” says Derek Ross, who directs True Love Waits in the Philippines. He should know.

In metro Manila, a city with 5 million high school students, school officials don’t need to be convinced of the need for abstinence education.

At Dasmarinas National High, with 20,000-plus students at its main campus and eight annexes, it only took a 10-minute conversation with the principal, David Atas, to generate interest in sharing True Love Waits’ abstinence-until-marriage message there.

“You don’t have to convince me, I know we need True Love Waits in our campus,” Atas said. “We have girls getting pregnant.” In 2006, the same year of the initial meeting with Atas, more than 2,000 Dasmarinas students made commitments not only to abstinence but also to Jesus Christ through True Love Waits.

“Schools have jumped on True Love Waits; nationwide, we receive initiations every day,” Ross said, noting that schools with 5,000 to 50,000 students within a short distance of each other is not uncommon.

In meetings with True Love Waits leaders at LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, Tenn., Jan. 14-17, Ross spoke of how God has opened doors throughout the Philippines for TLW in its three areas of emphasis: schools, training churches and large events.

Some of the most famous Christians in that country, such as athletes, models, radio DJs, artists and rock stars, have become involved in True Love Waits through a variety of circumstances, Ross noted. “God brought these people to us,” he said, “and others started following True Love Waits.”

Media coverage, including an hour-long program on a national TV show whose host Ross described as the equivalent of Larry King, has greatly heightened the awareness and credibility of True Love Waits. Beyond churches and schools, TLW has made connections “out in the world,” which Ross described as “a great place to be because kids desperately need God.”

Ross told about an invitation True Love Waits received to have a booth at the 2007 MTV Music Summit for AIDS in the Philippines. The main sponsor of the event was a condom manufacturer, with the youth receiving a discount on admission if they bought a condom upon entering the venue. Another sponsor was a beer company.

About 20,000 young people attended the MTV summit for AIDS, where True Love Waits was the only Christian presence.

Student volunteers and True Love Waits staff engaged passersby in conversations about the Gospel, asking questions such as, “Can a condom protect your heart?” In other cases, they simply put the Gospel into the hands of Filipino youth.

Franco Ferrer, True Love Waits national training coordinator, was among those who enthusiastically challenged summit attendees, several of whom described sex as “practice for relationships,” to turn to God’s pattern for relationships.

“God is on the move and the best is yet to come,” Franco said. “It’s a great honor to be part of True Love Waits, connecting with churches and schools and being able to make Jesus famous in the Philippines and beyond. We shall impact generations across Asia.”

Because so many young people they encounter have had sexual relations, Ross said True Love Waits emphasizes purity more than virginity in the Philippines, because anyone can make a commitment to begin and maintain a life of purity.

Ross likens his message to young people as “spiritual caller ID.” Many young people see their Father calling them, he said, but are afraid to answer because they think He’s mad at them.

“We try to help them understand that God loves them and wants to bless them, so they don’t need to fear taking a call from their Father.”

While Ross estimates he has personally spoken to 30,000-40,000 people in the past 18 months, he is increasingly focusing on training others to share True Love Waits’ message and finding ways to open new doors.

Ross originally came to the Philippines as an International Mission Board missionary. Today, through Commission To Every Nation, a Texas-based missions organization, he oversees a national ministry in which someone is conducting True Love Waits small-group training nearly every day.

He and his wife also home school their five children, who range in age from 1 to 11.

“I’m totally in love with these [Filipino] people,” Ross said. “Our plan is to join God where He is at work, to know him and make Him known.” –30– Don Beehler is a writer based in Nashville, Tenn. True Love Waits: The How To Wait

by Vince Olaer | Featured , Free SS Materials , Pastoral , Primary | 0 comments

The issue of true love waits is a valid issue concerning of love. The big question however is, “How to wait?”

With the current shift of culture and moral standards of the world, I believe true love waits is an “on-time” seminar for our younger generation.

I do not believe to what the government is doing as their solution for the rising cases of HIV. I believe that it is still the revival of moral values is still the best solution for this, hence, religious groups can do indeed play a great role in this issue.

The article below was taken from the True Love Waits Manual published by Church Strengthening Ministry years ago. Thus, I find this article direct to the point and helpful to our younger generation.

How To Wait?

1. Seek God – The more we get to know God, the more we realize what He wants us to do and the more we discover His plans for us. He is the best example of love because He is love (1 John 4:7-21). 2. Guard your heart –   Our hearts lead us into our actions. We must try keeping it pure for those who need true love from us. We must always check to see if what we do is good and will build us up an make us stronger. The Bible also tells us that God will help us guard aour hearts; we have to learn to listen to Him (Philippians 4:7).

True Love Waits

3. Guard your thoughts – While we might say, “I can handle it, it does not affect me,” our thoughts can put our defenses at risk. Temptation in itself is not sin, but it may lead us to sin. While waiting, it pays to keep a clean mind. (Read Philippians 4:8 and 2 Corinthians 10:5). 4. Look at others in a different light –   In the book, “I Kissed Dating Goodbye,” the author suggests that rather than looking at others as potential boyfriends and girlfriends, we should treat eac other with absolute purity and show brotherly love. When we do, we can see why each one is special in God’s sight.

  5. Strive for purity even in what you do – a) Dress to advertise yourself not your sexuality. Wear clothes that call attention to your face, your eyes, your smile, things that communicate who you are. B) Watch your conversation. There is one important principle in communication: it is irreversible. So say only what will build up, not tear down; what will guide, not mislead. Even when you are considering an intimate relationship with someone or are already in this kind of relationship, we should still strive for purity. One way to do this is to set our “rules” so to speak even before the situation arises.

  6. Make friends – Waiting does not mean you have to cut yourself off from the people around you. These friends can actually be your “support group” people who will help you with your convictions. Ecclesiastes 4:10-12 gives us the importance of friendship. 7. Prepare your answers to pressure lines such as “If you really loved me, you would,” Everyone is doing it,” “Marriage is a long way off. Why deny yourself this pleasure now?” – At one time, we all will have to make a stand. When this time comes, we should have a prepared answer. While this kit may give you some “ammunition” to answer the question, the best and the most effective answer is one that points to Jesus and does not sound prideful: “I have given my life to Jesus. I cannot do that.”

  8. Get involved in something much larger than yourself – A charitable cause, a community project, an others-oriented campaign will always need volunteers instead of spending time wondering when the right person will come along, immerse yourself in helping other. 9. Think of your singleness as a blessing – Enjoy your singleness! There are many things you can do as an individual and not do if you have a commitment to someone. These are the times when you can mature more, grow more, in the different aspects of life. It is a time to meet people and get to know God more.  As we wait, we should make the best of our time by responding to the call of purity. Someone may also be waiting for us. Until we meet that person, we will be able to say, “I’m worth waiting for.”

Remember, it’s not just your future mate who needs true love from you. The other four also do.

True love is nothing that can be found in possessions or anything that can be created through physical relationships. True love is having a respect, and a deep concern and care your mate or for your future mate. True love is selfless. "Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perserveres.

Love never fails. This is just one of the many verses in the Bible that emphasizes the power and depth of love. The worlds standard of love is completely different however.

The world believes that love is entirely a feeling, an infatuation, a lust; but what happens when that feeling fades. Is that "love" gone? Where do you go from there? That is why God has created the perfect plan for truelove, finding true love and marriage. It is a mutual trust in God, and a respect for your mate, by preserving yourself and staying faithful and close to God, you will be closer to your mate, or will be blessed with a wonderful godly husband / wife in the future.

You have to trust God's perfect timing and also trust that he will help you through all your hardships. We should also view any season of singleness as a gift from God. After all being single doesn't have to be a bad thing, there is much less responsibility as a

single individual. However, whatever you are, be all there! Live to the hilt because every situation that you're in is the will of God working in your life. God would not put you through anything that you cannot handle with His help. A person trusting in God is content in every circumstance.

This statement is very true but the word content must be understood in the correct way. Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of what you already have. God does not want you to avoid relationships, and He doesn't want to take your fun away, what He does want is for you to follow His will for your life and to trust in His timing. God revealed his plan for sociology when he created Adam and Eve. He is a loving God and He has the perfect plan for our lives all we have to do is trust Him.
