My favorite restaurant essay

Places we prefer vary depending on our taste, culture, mood, previous experience and our first impression of the place.

Today, I will talk about my favorite restaurant that I visited one day and left an impression of calm and quietness as well as the quality of the food and it’s tasty taste.

Italian cuisine is one of the most famous kitchens around the world and is one of the most luxurious and characteristic cuisines in the world. It is the origin of pasta and pizza that is unparalleled anywhere else.

The Italian restaurant is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding and magnificent food establishments in my city. Characterized by the quiet atmosphere, its light-colored interior and its elegant, glamorous decor, it was once a cafe before turning into a restaurant with many qualities of the former.

The restaurant offers delicious dining options, with Italian authentic flavor. Waiters in the restaurant are friendly and respectful.

This place is no less than a typical example of how to build a restaurant.

The restaurant serves many famous Italian meals.

The chicken soup with cream is a great start to any meal, and I have not found a restaurant serving it as here. I prefer the Chicken Caesar Salad after it.

My favorite dishes are the fettuccine Alfredo pasta with chicken, grilled chicken with cream and mushroom sauce. I love pizza of all kinds. They are all delicious and different options. Parmesan cheese is a good choice to accompany any Italian dish.

Canoloni Agnolotti with garlic and rosemary is one of the best Italian dishes. Agnolotti is a stuffed pasta and is very similar to ravioli, served with some rosemary and garlic. This dish is one of the distinctive foods in Italian cuisine.

Rap Arancini broccoli with marinara sauce is one of the best Italian dishes. It is rice balls with well fried broccoli and characterized by its golden color and served with marinara sauce.

The restaurant also offers different types of juices with meals. Such as lemon juice with mint mixed with crushed ice is an effective recipe for extinguishing the heat of the atmosphere.

The restaurant at the weekend is busy … my advice is to arrive early or book or call for booking to ensure a place.

The restaurant is rated 4 stars and its prices are high.

my favorite restaurant

My favorite restaurant for sure is one that specializes in chicken meals. The name of my favorite restaurant is “…?…”. It contains in the menu many recipes of chicken. I would prefer to order the Portuguese style chicken. So it contains a lot of hot spices. I prefer to choose the shape of the chicken and how to present it, whether it is with bones or boneless. Like a chicken burger or grilled chicken. Or other delicious recipes that I find very nice. I love to serve salads and appetizers first. Then serve the main meal in addition to some of the side dishes that I can add to the meal. All this is very nice to me.

my favourite restaurant essay

My favorite restaurant is an Italian restaurant called “…?…”. The best meal it serves is delicious and wonderful pizza. I like the way they prepare this pizza more than many other restaurants. I find it a nice way they cut the ingredients, I always find it thin and it is always fresh and of excellent quality.

The degree of cooking is great, always moderate and not too much. So I love it so much and I love eating it in this place so much. I can’t get rid of the wonderful smell that I can smell while it’s still on its way to me.

I certainly have that childish expression on my face because I long to take a piece of it and leave it a little in my mouth. I can never hide this expression no matter who I take with me to my favorite restaurant.

Of course, what makes me more determined for this restaurant is the experiences of others around me, friends and family, all of whom praise the wonderful taste of this restaurant.

I feel like I’m going there very soon, because this talk made me want to eat some pizza. I might go today, I don’t know if I could, but if I did, it would be very nice.

I also hope that everyone will be fortunate to find a favorite restaurant that he would like to return to with great anticipation.

restaurant essay

My favorite restaurant is very simple, I can not say that it is one of those large and famous restaurants that contain several stars, led by a skilled team of highly-acclaimed chefs.

My favorite restaurant is one of those small restaurants that the owner and one of his sons strive to manage and satisfy customers. Those restaurants you can find on the corner of the street.

They don’t have much food on the main menu but they do have a feeling of love and affection. I always order different food to try the items they have and they all feel the same as the food my mum made for me.

I like very much to order and eat meals that are served in famous restaurants, such as burgers, KFC pieces. Certainly not the same quality. But it makes me very happy. It’s great to see what it looks like in other places and get the closest taste to it. With a simple soft drink.

That’s all I can say in an essay about a restaurant in which I can express my experience. I wish in the future to finish my studies and be able to travel to broaden my horizons of thought. Visit famous restaurants and eat different meals. Until then, this simple restaurant will remain my favorite.

paragraph about restaurant

I like that the restaurant in which I eat my food contains Mexican or Indian recipes that contain sharp spices, especially chicken. I like to have the ability to choose in the size provided, such as a quarter to a whole chicken. Where I ask only for what is sufficient for me and there is nothing left. I also prefer that it be served with the meal, French fries and a large glass of soft water, such as Coca-Cola. I find such restaurants serving these meals very wonderful to me.

my favorite restaurant essay

It’s great that I can talk about my favorite restaurant. I like very much restaurants that have modern  menu on the food, the drinks and the dessert .

I am very attracted by those that are served as pumpkin sauce with cream. Or offer arugula juice. Things like this make me happy.

Eating in the restaurant is one of the good things. Since childhood, we did not encourage eating in restaurants a lot due to the loss of beneficial nutrients. The orders are always saturated with oils and fats.

But because of the change and the experience of some new varieties, I became a lot more encouraged to eat in restaurants. One of my most favorite restaurants is the tomato Indian restaurant. They can always surprise me and offer one of those new meals or offer a modern sauce that I like.

my favorite restaurant short essay

My favorite restaurant is near my house. The name of the restaurant is “………” This is definitely my favorite restaurant because the price is very cheap. I can for as little as “Put the price of the meal here ‘ I can eat a whole bowl of pasta.

But what is really special about this restaurant is that I can get an additional amount of the same size and the same price if I want more . So, I like the idea of little money and a lot of food. I love going to this restaurant very much.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 2

My favorite restaurant is dedicated to fresh seafood. I love eating recipes from this restaurant, such as the shrimp dish mixed with cream and garlic. I am amazed at the consistency of this dish.

I really like the innovative way they present this dish, so I highly recommend it to all my friends and family. It is always a pleasure to return for this dish at High Seas Restaurant.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 3

On occasions, I always go with my family to eat at my favorite restaurant, me and my siblings. The name of this restaurant is Crazy about you.

Your imagination will surely go with this wonderful name. And it is worth it in fact, it is dedicated to food and dancing as well, as it contains an area dedicated to dancing in different forms. There are always new people and different requests for dances that express their reference.

Eating is more fun while watching, and my brothers and I often participate in dancing. It makes us have a lot of fun and have a great time.

I like it very much when my dad and mom share a quiet dance. It makes us feel so happy when we see them smiling and nothing distracts them for a few minutes.

This place is my favorite and one day when I make a family I would like to go back and spend such a wonderful family time.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 6

My favorite restaurant is sweet and savory restaurant. This restaurant is famous for serving very delicious meals such as burgers, chicken and Italian pasta. It also features wonderful dessert meals, whether hot or cold.

This place is my favorite because I always love variety and innovation and I don’t like to eat the same meal whenever I go there. I would rather try all their varieties. Especially sweet dishes that always make me feel happy and re-energize me after eating a heavy meal.

In fact, I love to eat a lot and have a great appetite. I like to eat until I feel full. So this is my favorite restaurant because it serves a large plate of food. Not like those famous restaurants that serve small samples in the middle of the plate.

I would very much love to come back and eat there from time to time and try some spicy food like Indian food. Although they are not specialized in it, but they offer some wonderful simple meals that contain different spices. I also like the way the meat is grilled and the spices used. It has a sharp and clear taste.

Definitely very soon I will be going again to this restaurant and I am glad that I have a favorite restaurant that can make me happy.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 7

My favorite restaurant is very simple and it’s just a car parked by the road near my house with a man working on it always smiling. He makes snacks called hot dog sandwiches. Its price is very low, it tastes great, it is nice to talk with friends and eat in the middle of the road where the air and friends are.

I often have it on my way back from school. And before going to exercise, I find it wonderful to eat this meal. It makes me feel energized.  My friends in training often ask to bring them some. Everyone loves a hot dog, it is suitable for all times. Quick to prepare, easy to eat and completely satiating.

Of course, this is not a famous restaurant or one of the famous dishes, but always the most important thing is psychological comfort and happiness. This place always makes me happy. All I need is a hot dog sandwich and a glass of soda water.

my first visit to a restaurant essay 250 words

My first visit to a restaurant was years ago and it was the famous McDonald’s. My family used to take me there to have a happy meal and to provide a space for the children to play.

Always in these restaurants in every country you will find a dedicated area for children in which they can play and practice a lot of activities.

I remember my first day getting a good meal and a gift too. The gift was a small car. I was very happy with it, I didn’t want to play with it at the time, but kept it until I got home and then played with it.

I remember very well that I was able to keep it intact and working for several years later. One of the wonderful things that delight children are such gifts.

I remember the games in the place and there was this room full of little balls that we jump on, and we swim in trying to get out, and dive inside and throw them all over the place.

I also remember participating with other children in the race for those who climb to the skating game, and shouting loudly while skating.

Definitely this place is my favorite and I like to go back and eat there, and it would be great if I got one of the gifts they offer.

It is great that my family took me to this place where I was able to create very wonderful memories. And build a good family bond with them. Such outings make you always want to accompany them, eat with them, and visit different places.

Of course, I now have several different experiences from visiting restaurants, but my first restaurant remains the best, and returning to it makes me feel happiness that I often need it.

I love the idea of a place that makes me happy and I want to go back to it and bring back some good memories. Thank you McDonald’s for being a partner in this happiness memories.

One of my favorite dining spots is a quaint Italian restaurant nestled in the heart of downtown. 'Bella Cucina', as it's affectionately known, has become a sanctuary for me, a place I frequent almost monthly. Its location, mere blocks from the bustling city center, offers a serene escape from the urban chaos. The ambiance here is enchanting, characterized by dim lighting, soft music, and an aroma of herbs that greets you at the door.

Every visit to Bella Cucina is a culinary adventure. The menu, brimming with authentic Italian dishes, ranges from classic spaghetti carbonara to more exotic seafood risotto, each dish masterfully prepared. What I particularly adore about this restaurant is its commitment to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The taste of their handcrafted pizzas, with the perfect blend of crispy crust and flavorful toppings, is a testament to the culinary skills of their chefs.

But what truly sets Bella Cucina apart is the warmth and hospitality that emanates from every corner. The staff, always attentive and friendly, ensure that each visit is memorable. Their recommendations, often tailored to my taste, have never disappointed. It's this personal touch, coupled with the exquisite food, that makes me feel at home.

The reason I'm drawn to Bella Cucina goes beyond just its delectable cuisine. It's a place where memories are made. Be it celebrating milestones with friends or enjoying a quiet dinner alone, the experiences here are always special. It's a restaurant where the joy of eating is elevated by the ambiance, service, and a sense of belonging. That's why Bella Cucina holds a special place in my heart, and why I'll keep returning to relive those delightful culinary experiences.

Essay on “A visit to a Restaurant” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

A visit to a Restaurant

My long cherished desire was fulfilled only yesterday when I could visit a posh restaurant in New Delhi.

This restaurant is situated in Connaught Place. I was in awe reached there; neatly dressed Durban saluted us and showed us the way in by opening the door.

We were now in a big and beautiful hall. It was really an attractive place. Light arrangement was beautiful. Beautiful paintings were nicely set on the wall. On one wall was the picture of a fashionable girl. I did not quite relish its sight, because I do not like modernism beyond a certain limit. A blue velvet carpet laid spread on the floor.

There were about twenty tables in the hall. There were four chairs to every table. A menu book lay on each table. In one corner of the hall was the cash counter where a man and a woman were seated on their seats.

There was a raised platform. Music instruments were arranged on it. There was a chair behind every instrument. There was a chair behind every instrument. There was a microphone just below the platform. I was looking 0n all sides, when a waiter dressed neatly drew my attention. He came to our table, saluted us and asked for orders. My uncle made the orders.

All the lights went off all of a sudden. Only a dim light remained glimmering nothing could be seen clearly for some time. In a short while we saw the musicians having taken their seats. Music started. The waiter also came with several dishes. The dishes were very well prepared.

AS we were taking our meals, music continued to flow sweetly. All of a sudden there was a halt to music and we wondered what the matter was. My uncle told me that we would witness cabaret.

Like a flash of lightning, a charming girl appeared on the stage. She looked smilingly all around. The people returned the compliment by clapping their hands. The girl was wearing bright tight clothes which shone like the stars at night. The makeup of the girl was very attractive. She made excellent poses of dancing. She gave some hit songs also. There was attention and praise everywhere for the girl.

It was 10:34 p.m. We paid the bill and came out of the restaurant.

Vega, New York

Reviewed yesterday

Great mains, pity about the chips

Came for lunch with my sister. We loved our Thai-style mains which were amazing with lots of flavour, very impressive for a vegetarian restaurant.

But the service was below average and the chips were too terrible to finish.

When we arrived at 1.40, we had to wait 20 minutes while they got our table ready. OK, so we didn't have a reservation, but the restaurant was only half full. There was no reason to make us wait at all.

We ordered the chips as a side dish and they looked delicious. But, when we tasted them, they were overcooked and swimming in oil so we left most of them. We expected a lot more for $10!

When the waiter asked if everything was ok, we said we really didn't like the chips and he said 'That's funny, I love them' and that was it. He didn't offer us anything else or take them off our bill. Also, when we didn't leave a tip, he looked annoyed.

I was really excited about visiting Vega, and the mains were just fantastic, but the rest of the experience was really disappointing.

  • In the title, give the main idea or opinion.
  • Write about the important parts of the experience, not every detail.
  • Organise your ideas into paragraphs.
  • Write about the good and the bad.

Delicious food, shame about service.

Me and my family came for dinner. We loved our  Butterfly Burger mains, which were so amazing and tasted so good!

However, the service was quite slow and not the best experience.

We had to wait for the table for around thirty minutes after we got there.

The price was too expensive, costing a whooping £11.50 for just the burger, and that doesn’t include any drinks.

I would recommend if you like delicious food, I would give it 4 stars.

I loved the mains, but the side order was oily. Me and my sister, we had to wait for at least 30 minutes, we knew that we don't have a reservation, but there were just 5 costumers. The service was good, but the side order was swimming in oil.

Recently we visited an spanish restaurant where in theory offered a good meat dishes.

I asked for a ribeye medium rare, but they brought the meat rare.  I ate the meat thinking that at the end the flavour would be great but it didn't.

I have one situation, when I went to the cafe and I order cheese cakes, but when waiteress put me my dish I saw that the plate has finger marks and I asked that she take me new one, replace meal. After I had new dish and I was very satisfade myself that not agree for less.

I had a bad experience with one cafe. I came with my sister and we ordered coffee, green tea and some desserts. Staff was not friendly and looked to us annoyed. When drinks arrived my sister try a green tea and it was so bad. It taste like a cheapest green tea in the world in my opinion. But price was too expensive for one cup of regular green tea. Coffe and desserts also was not very tasty. Staff saw we are not satisfied with food and they was just didnt care. I was shoked about it because its very popular mains cafe in my city. I leave a negative respond in google maps, cause i never had such a bad expirience

The last week I tried a cute coffee shop near my house. I think is my favorite place to get a coffee and peace time. First, the place was very nice with fall decorations. Second, the service was kind and fast, they explained me so clear somethings about the menu. Also, the food arrived really fast and the Chef walked to my table to give my food (I felt so special). Finally when I check the bill, I was in shock because was cheap. It was best bacon Sandwich I have ever eaten!

A good recommendation doesn't become a good meal! I can't say I have had a bad meal in any restaurant but I had a bad experience in a one Michelin Star Restaurant recommended by a good friend. That day, enjoying a walk around where the restaurant were located, my husband and I decided to ask for a reservation that night, but the chef told us it where all fully booked. Well, hours later, when we where going home, we saw the restaurant almost empty and we came in to ask why he told us they were all booked. The chef, invited us very annoyingly to leave the restaurant without any explanation. Next day in restaurant's web we leave a review saying what happend. The chef answered us in the same arrogant attitude, without any acceptable explanation.

I went with my sister, my mom, and my uncle to an ice cream place; it was great inside, Mario and Luigi drew and a lot of decorations, so we sat, but we needed to wait for 30 minutes there without any attention, so we decided to left the site, the person that was working there asked us why we were leaving the place, but we didn´t say anything and we went off that place without a word.

Mexico restaurant, Fukuoka

The interior design is great, the food and service are terrible. When I visited Fukuoka city with my girlfriend for the first time, we tried Mexican food for the first time in our lives. We both thought the restaurant looked great and its dishes must be delicious. So we ordered 4 dishes, and all looked so cheap even though they were expensive. I think they use instant food, instead of cooking real dishes. They also took table fees and service fees too. I don't think it is reasonable to take such a fee.

Describe a Restaurant [IELTS Speaking Part 2]

Posted by David S. Wills | Sep 26, 2018 | IELTS Tips , Speaking | 1

Describe a Restaurant [IELTS Speaking Part 2]

In the IELTS speaking exam, you may be asked about almost any common part of life. There are some predictable topics you often encounter, and most of these are broad human experiences – you know, sports and education and family, etc. In part two, you need to describe something . This could be a person, a place, or an experience.

In the past, I have written articles and recorded sample answers for many part two topics, from animals to books to people . Today, we are going to look at another IELTS speaking part 2 cue card, which asks you to describe a restaurant.

Reading the Cue Card

When you are presented with an IELTS speaking part 2 question, it will come in the form of a cue card – that is a piece of paper with some instructions on it. You need to follow these instructions carefully and then give your answer. In order to give an appropriate answer, you should read the cue card and make sure you fully understand it.

Here is our cue card for this lesson:

Describe your favourite restaurant. Sushi platter. You should say: where it is what it looks like inside and outside what kinds of foods they serve and explain what makes this restaurant so special to you and others.

Think about some basic facts:

  • What do you need to describe? a restaurant
  • Can you describe any restaurant? no, it needs to be your favourite
  • location (where)
  • appearance (what it looks like)
  • menu (what kind of food)
  • Can you say you dislike it? no, this is only about a restaurant you really like
  • Should you say anything else? you can, but don’t go off topic

To review, this cue card asks the candidate to describe their favourite restaurant, giving some basic information about it, and explaining why they like it.

Making Notes and Preparing to Speak

When you receive the cue card, you should take a moment to read it carefully and analyze the instructions, and then begin making notes. At this point, you have just one minute to make notes . You can later use these notes to speak.

It is essential that you don’t try to write too much. Think of some useful vocabulary or an interesting phrase that you might incorporate, but mostly write what you want to say in very brief note form. Candidates who try to write full sentences will do very poorly in the speaking exam. You simply don’t have enough time.

It is important to practice this skill before doing the actual exam. Look at cue cards online and then practice writing down notes. How much can you think and write in just one minute? If you practice making notes then it will be easier in the final exam.

IELTS speaking part 2 notes

My brief notes.

Here are my notes for the cue card:

Japanese food – sushi and sashimi beer and spirits Beatles memorabilia music Downtown mall Good food and service; clean

As you can see, I didn’t write much. There are no full sentences, and no grammar. It is just a bare outline. These notes would help me to speak easily, but wouldn’t take a long time to write.

Remember that no one will ever read your notes. Don’t be self-conscious of how you write, or any mistakes you make. Their only purpose is to help you speak freely during the next section.

Sample Answer

After writing your notes, you will have to speak for between one and two minutes. The most important thing is not to speak for less than one minute. That is essential. If you speak for too long, the examiner will stop you. Remember to speak slowly and calmly. If you speak too fast, you will quickly run through your notes and finish in less than a minute!

Here is my sample answer to this part 2 question:

Beatles memorabilia

Beatles memorabilia.

My favourite restaurant is a Japanese restaurant near my house. I don’t know the name because I can’t read Japanese very well, but I often go there and always enjoy it. Of course, they serve Japanese food there, such as sushi and sashimi, but there are many other types of dish. It has an extensive menu. They also have draft and bottled beer, as well as a few spirits. The restaurant is unique because although it is a Japanese restaurant, it has a lot of Beatles memorabilia. They also pay lots of Beatles music there, which I think is strange. People are always confused when they enter because outside it looks like a typical Japanese restaurant, but inside it is a mix of eastern and western design. The restaurant is located not far from my house, in a mall situated in the city’s downtown area. I really like it because it’s got great food and the service is better than most places around here. It’s also quite clean.

Video Answer

Here is my sample answer in video form. You will need to skip ahead if you want to only view the video.

Notes on Language

Notice that I didn’t use any particularly difficult language above, except maybe the word “memorabilia.” This word means “memorable objects” and is often used when describing strange decorations in restaurants that relate to culture.

In terms of specific restaurant vocabulary, I used very little. The verb “serve” is used to refer to a restaurant giving food to its customers. Although I didn’t use it, this can be turned into a noun that refers to waiters and waitresses in a gender-neutral way – “server”.

I used the phrase “extensive menu” to mean that the menu has many items. This would be a common way someone might refer to an impressive menu in a restaurant.

In terms of alcohol, “draft” is the sort of beer that comes out of a tap, and “spirits” refers to stronger sorts of alcohol like whisky, vodka, and tequila.

Sample Answer 1

Here is the sample for the “Describe a restaurant that you like” topic

I carry this keenness to explore cafes and restaurants wherever I go. So, just the last month, I paid a visit to Gurugram on account of some personal work. Once I got done with my work, I commenced my exploration of restaurants. And that is when I came across The Ivy Restaurant, which is located at Baani Square.

The restaurant serves an extensive range of Mediterranean food, Continental food, Middle Eastern food, Contemporary food, European food, Lebanese food, American food, Italian food, and more. In addition to this, they also serve special diets, such as vegetarian-friendly, halal, vegan diets, and gluten-free options. Apart from this, you can also get full meals, such as lunch, dinner, and brunch.

The first time I visited the restaurant, I relished the ambiance of this place. The interiors are mesmerizing, and the arena is relatively peaceful. I could sit there for hours, enjoying delectable food and drinks prepared by skilled chefs.

So, keeping this fruitful experience in mind, I revisited this place before returning home. One of the best things about this place is that it is wheelchair accessible; thus, it is reachable by everybody. Moreover, people can even get takeaways, and table services and enjoy several other convenient ways to buy their food.

Sample Answer 2

I would like to talk about a Japanese restaurant I read about on a food blogger’s website. The restaurant named X is located in an alley on ABC Street which is popular with lovers of Japanese food. As I live in XYZ, I can’t go to that restaurant on a regular basis. Thus, every time I get the chance, I love to get there with my colleagues to enjoy a palatable meal.

This restaurant serves some kinds of Japanese traditional food. Among them, “ramen” – a traditional noodle Japanese is the most sought-after dish by this restaurant’s customers. It offers some famous kinds of ramen, with self-made noodles, making a wonderful and true ramen taste. The other thing which makes me fall in love with this restaurant is the Japanese culture when I eat out there. Chefs and waiters are always kind and polite, but smoking or too much noise is never allowed there. Thus, as soon as you get into the restaurant, it seems like you are immediately brought to Japan to experience the cuisine and the culture. That’s why it’s enjoyable to be there though it is located in a small area.

Despite the fact that I really love our country’s cuisine, sometimes I choose to enjoy food from other cultures, and Japan is always at the top of the list . The art of Japanese cuisine and the cozy ambiance this restaurant creates do impress me a lot.

Here are the vocabularies for “describe a restaurant that you like” with examples:

essay about a restaurant you visited

IELTS Cue Card 11 – Describe A Restaurant You Enjoyed Going To

In this post, you will see a sample cue card question ,  high-level answer  and feedback

Model Answer

I’d like to talk about a restaurant that I have visited with my family that is close to our hearts, as it is owned by close friends of my husbands family. This restaurant is a traditional Greek restaurant that is located right on a beach and built overlooking the sea. It is in such a beautiful location that it is very popular with both locals and tourists on the island where I live.

I have visited this restaurant with my family many times before and we return regularly to eat there. They serve all kinds of fresh fish and traditional Greek dishes. My favourite dish is the kokkinisto, which is beef cooked in a red wine sauce, served with rice or potatoes. My husband also enjoys this dish, but he prefers to order the fresh fish, which is usually caught by his friend who works there and is also one of the local policemen. They have an abundant supply of fish, crab, squid and shellfish, they also have a fish pool there, where they keep a supply of sea bream and tanks with lobsters.

This restaurant has a very special place in our hearts because it is where I got married. Friends and family came together to transform the restaurant into a beach side paradise for our wedding celebrations. The food that they served during the wedding was excellent, with a starter of Greek salad and a meat meze, the main course was lamb cooked on a spin outside, with vegetables, and potatoes. Then, for dessert, there were fruit plates and plenty of wedding cake. The food was so delicious that everyone commented on how good it was and how much they had enjoyed it.

The Mediterranean food served in this restaurant is always fresh and cooked by a chef who has years and years of experience making these traditional dishes. The atmosphere there is wonderful and relaxing, with a regular crowd of people who visit. Everybody is made to feel welcome and like they are a part of the family. If anyone was looking for recommendations for places to eat when visiting the island, I would not hesitate to send them there.

This is a high-level answer , as there are concrete words being used to tell a story and answer the why, who, where and what questions. Words and phrases are used to describe thoughts and feelings. The bullet points have been covered with the extra information given (examples), which extends the answer. Collocations, plurals and idioms have also been used correctly.

Five Mexican restaurants on Redwood Road worth dining at

The tribune’s food reporter aims to visit and eat at every local restaurant on redwood road in 2024..

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Tacos Lopez Mexican restaurant on Redwood Road, on Monday, April 1, 2024.

Editor’s note • This is the first in an occasional series, the Redwood Road Challenge.

In January, I set out to complete an ambitious task: To eat at every locally owned restaurant on Redwood Road in 2024.

Three months into that project, I’m reporting back with some recommendations for noteworthy Mexican restaurants and taquerias along that west-side state highway.

These are the parameters I set in January for the Redwood Road Challenge: I’ll stick to the stretch of Redwood that goes through Salt Lake County, and all local spots count — they just have to have “Redwood Road” in their address.

These five Mexican restaurants aren’t listed in any particular order, and I can’t say whether they’re the best on Redwood because I’m still exploring. But they’re all places that made me sit up and notice their food for one reason or another.

Most of the time, the Mexican restaurants I’ve visited on Redwood are homey and unassuming. Redwood can be traffic-filled and exhaust-choked, and it was nice to be able to duck into a place where I felt welcome. These eateries — with their Mexican music, saint cards on the walls and soccer matches on TV — were my respite from rumbling semis and honking cars.

If you have a Mexican restaurant on Redwood you’d like to recommend to me, let me know by emailing me at [email protected].

(Kolbie Peterson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Four asada tacos, photographed at Hacienda Mexican Restaurant on Jan. 30, 2024.

Hacienda Mexican Restaurant • 1248 S. Redwood Road, Salt Lake City; 801-973-0738 • When I started this Redwood Road project, I was fairly new to street-style tacos, so this restaurant set the precedent for me that all tacos must come with chopped white onions and cilantro on top, and fresh lime wedges on the side.

I got four asada tacos that day in January, with a piña agua fresca on the side. The food was warm and fresh, and the meat was seasoned well. The tacos were served with green and red salsa, and everything was so flavorful.

One thing I liked about this place is it was decorated like someone’s house, with little knickknacks like ceramic elephants and pottery placed all around. Numerous plants in the window contributed to the feeling of eating in someone’s home kitchen. It was a busy spot for lunch.

(Kolbie Peterson | The Salt Lake Tribune) The tacos al pastor combo at Chunga's, photographed on Feb. 15, 2024.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Chunga's, Mexican restaurant on Redwood Road, on Monday, April 1, 2024.

Chunga’s • 1895 S. Redwood Road, Salt Lake City; 801-973-6904; ChungasSLC.com • Chunga’s is known for their tacos al pastor, which features thin slices of marinated pork usually grilled on a spit. I couldn’t not get their signature tacos, so I got the tacos al pastor combo, which came with rice and beans with queso fresco on top.

Chunga’s serves their tacos al pastor sprinkled with chopped white onions, cilantro and (delightfully) bits of pineapple, which combined with the meat for a bite that was savory, smoky, sweet and tangy. Al pastor and I are best friends now, and I make sure to get something with al pastor on it at every Mexican restaurant I get to visit.

The word is out about Chunga’s, by the way; as soon as it opened, people start streaming inside. If the Redwood location isn’t convenient, there’s a second Chunga’s in the Fairpark neighborhood, at 180 S. 900 West, Salt Lake City.

(Kolbie Peterson | The Salt Lake Tribune) An al pastor burrito with fries and beans, photographed at La Villita on March 11, 2024.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) La Villita Mexican restaurant on Redwood Road, on Monday, April 1, 2024.

La Villita • 2711 S. Redwood Road, West Valley City; 385-549-1902; LaVillitaRestaurant.com • Another homey spot in a building that literally looks like a little orange house. Its name means “the little village,” and this tiny restaurant — with its yellow interior walls and little stained-glass lamps — just exudes a vibe that’s warm and welcoming.

I got the al pastor burrito and a mandarin Jarritos to go with it, and I loved that burrito. The meat inside was combined with creamy pinto beans and melted Monterey Jack cheese, and it made for a burrito that was satisfying and filling. This was comfort food to the max.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Taco Plate at Taqueria El Ray De Oros Mexican restaurant on Redwood Road, on Monday, April 1, 2024.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Taqueria El Ray De Oros Mexican restaurant on Redwood Road, on Monday, April 1, 2024.

Taqueria el Rey de Oros • 7096 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan; 801-255-9641; TaqueriaElReyDeOros.com • When driving to this restaurant, I missed it and had to double back — that’s how tucked away it is in a strip mall. But the food makes the search so worth it.

I ordered three tacos: asada, carnitas and al pastor (just give me all the al pastor), and everything was popping with flavor, especially the carnitas. The plate was also really colorful, with slices of fresh radishes, plus pickled carrots and pickled red onions that are made in-house. And, of course, there was plenty of chopped white onions, cilantro and lime. On the side, I got a tall cup of fresh horchata, which they also make in-house.

I was the only customer here for lunch. Don’t sleep on this hidden treasure.

(Kolbie Peterson | The Salt Lake Tribune) An al pastor vampiro (left), with al pastor and asada tacos, photographed at Tacos Lopez on March 25, 2024.

Tacos Lopez • 3609 S. Redwood Road, West Valley City; 385-420-4732; TacosLopezWestValley.com • This place was loud and bustling in the best way: Cooks announcing orders were ready from the open kitchen, people chatting as they ate their food, multiple TVs going, and one man deciding to stand up to play guitar and sing.

I encountered my first vampiro at this restaurant, something I’d never seen on a menu before. I discovered that a vampiro is something like a taco sandwich, made with two grilled corn tortillas that have lots of melted cheese and meat inside. Loved it!

I also got an asada taco and an al pastor taco, because now I get very real taco cravings. There’s a salsa bar at the center of the main room, but all the tacos already come with mild green salsa on them. So instead of salsa, I grabbed some of the freshest radishes and limes I’ve seen so far. Then I got to the serious business of eating.

How One Family Lost $900,000 in a Timeshare Scam

A mexican drug cartel is targeting seniors and their timeshares..

This transcript was created using speech recognition software. While it has been reviewed by human transcribers, it may contain errors. Please review the episode audio before quoting from this transcript and email [email protected] with any questions.

Hello, James.

Hey. How’s it going?

Yeah. I’m not having much luck. So the problem is funding. And all of my money is in Mexico, all of it.

From “The New York Times,” I’m Katrin Bennhold. This is “The Daily.” A massive scam targeting elderly Americans who own timeshare properties has resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars sent to Mexico.

Once you move forward and make your payment, if anything were to happen, he will directly pay you the full amount of what you’re entitled to, including the gains. He will pay you the full amount.

You’ve got all my money. It’s been sent. I sold a freaking house.

Listen to this. I sold a house that I grew up in so that I could come up with funds to send to Mexico.

I don’t even have anything from the sale, nothing.

My colleague Maria Abi-Habib on one victim who lost everything and the people on the other side of the phone.

That’s it. That’s it. There’s nothing —

You know what? That’s what has been said every freaking time. Every time, just pay this. That releases the funds.

But that’s why we won’t allow it to happen again. This is the last time, James.

It’s Friday, April 12.

Maria, you’ve been looking into this scam that’s targeting Americans. Where did your investigation start?

So several weeks ago, I received a phone call from a lawyer based in St. Petersburg, Florida, who had been contacted by a family who was very concerned that the father, this man named James, was in the middle of being scammed. He’d sent hundreds of thousands dollars to Mexico. And he was considering sending another $157,000 when his daughter decided to call up this law firm and try to get her father to stop, stop sending money to Mexico.

So I called him a few weeks ago as I was trying to understand what was going on.

Hi, James. How are you?

Good. Thank you.

He’s asked that his last name be withheld for privacy concerns because he’s quite embarrassed about the story that I’m about to tell you.

You’re retired now, but what were you doing for work? And if your wife was working, what was her job?

I was with the Highway Patrol.

James is a retired state trooper from California. And his wife Nikki is a former school nurse.

She was born in ‘51. So 71-ish.

Two. She’s just reminded me, 72.

And they’re both in their early 70s. And they own this timeshare that is in Lake Tahoe, California. And they bought it in the 1990s for about $8,000.

And for someone who did not grow up vacationing in a timeshare, remind me how exactly timeshares work.

Timeshares are essentially vacation properties. And they tend to be beach resorts. And multiple people can buy into this property. The ownership is a shared ownership. And this gives you the right to use the timeshare for one to two weeks out of every year.

And so James and Nikki used their timeshare every other year with their daughters. But as they hit retirement age and their daughters are growing up and starting their own families, they’re just not really using it that much anymore. And timeshares require the owners to pay off yearly maintenance fees. And so they’re starting to think about maybe letting go of their timeshare and selling it.

Then one day, in late 2022, James gets a phone call from a company that is purporting to be based out of Atlanta, Georgia called Worry Free Vacations.

Worry Free Vacations?

That sounds enticing.

Yeah. And they start off with a simple question, which is, do you want to buy a timeshare? And James says, I already have a timeshare. And then they say, great. Well, what about selling the timeshare? Do you want to sell? There’s this Mexican businessman, and he’s interested in your timeshare. And he’s willing to buy it for about $20,000.

So we figured, well, what the heck? If we can make a few bucks on it, we’ll go for it.

And James jumps at the opportunity.

And did he do anything to try and verify that this was real?

Yeah. So remember, James is former law enforcement. And he feels very confident in his abilities to sniff out untrustworthy people. So he goes online, and he googles this Mexican businessman and sees that, yeah, he is a real person.

He’s a very well-respected individual in Mexico, very well off. And —

And this makes James feel at ease, that he’s selling to a legitimate person, that Worry Free Vacations are who they claim to be and that he’s going to double his money overnight, essentially.

And what happens next?

Well, a couple of weeks after he makes the agreement with the buyer, he’s told that he needs to send a couple thousand dollars to facilitate the purchase.

What does that mean, facilitate?

[MUSIC PLAYING]

I can’t remember specifically whether it was supposed to be cross-border registration —

So he’s being told that there are these fees that are paid directly to the Mexican government.

Or SPID or some other fee that was Mexican government required or not.

A lot of these fees are the same types of fees that you would pay in the United States for a real estate transaction. So he begins wiring money to an account in Mexico.

After that —

— a few days later, we get a notification. Well, everything went well, except that we have to pay an additional fee.

Every time that he sends one fee, he’s being told that he’s got to send another fee right afterwards.

Does he get suspicious at any point?

His wife is suspicious. After the first couple of payments, she starts saying, this does not feel right.

But James is the former law enforcement officer, right? And he’s the one that basically handles the family finances. And he’s confident that all of this is going to work out because he’s being told that the buyer of the timeshare will reimburse James for all of these fees once the sale goes through.

Michael from the Worry Free Vacations was constantly reassuring me the money’s in that account. Check with the commercial escrow account. It’s there. It’s just these fees have to be paid, and you’re being reimbursed for all of this.

They’re sending James documents that show all of the reimbursements that he’s owed and how much money he’s going to get. And this just makes him feel like all of this is kosher.

We have this commercial escrow company that was involved out of New York. So there was an air of legitimacy that I was comfortable with.

Maybe OK, these guys just need one more fee and everything is going to finally be cleared.

But about a year in, James starts to get suspicious. He begins asking questions because he wants his money.

And every time I asked, hey, is there a way I can get a partial release of these funds, there was always no, these funds have to be paid from your account before they’re released.

But Worry Free Vacations, they pivot. And they tell him that, listen, there are all these complications. It’s going to be really hard to get your money out from this transaction.

I could pay about $30,000 and change to reinvest the $313,000 into an environmentally-conscious development in Loreto, Mexico.

Instead, we’ve got this other investment opportunity in Mexico.

And I’m sure you know where that is, over on the East Coast of Baja.

And that is going to make you a huge return, even more money than you had thought that you were going to make, much more than the $20,000.

I’m supposed to have 54 million pesos in a Mexican bank account.

So this is now no longer just about his timeshare. They are now partners in a real estate investment.

Right. And there’s this whole new round of fees and fines associated with that.

So how many payments would you say?

Quite a few. Couple dozen at least, maybe more.

When was your last payment?

It would have been 17 January.

Uh-huh. And what was that for?

Good question.

And all along, he believed it was necessary to pay these costs just to get the money that he’s owed.

The amount of money that I’ve sent to Mexico is just freaking exorbitant. And I mean, it is approaching $900,000 or more.

And at this point, he’s sent about $900,000 to Mexico over about a year and a half.

Nearly $1 million.

That was almost all the money that he and his wife had saved for their retirement.

It also included money from the sale of James’s childhood home and money that he had borrowed from his daughter and son-in-law, about $150,000 from them.

It’s awful. So they were completely cleaned out by these guys.

Yeah. And this is when his daughter asks a law firm to look into this, which is the point in the story when I meet James. And when we start talking, it was clear to me that he just did not know what to think, even after losing this much money.

So this started in 2022. When did it end?

We’re still in it.

And he’s still talking to the scammers.

And as a matter of fact, presently, there was a request for $157,000 and change to clear up this whole thing. It would clear the entire issue out. Now —

And James is even considering putting a second mortgage on his house to send that money that he’d been promised would finally clear all this up — one final payment of $157,000.

It really sounds like he’s still wanted to believe that this was somehow legit.

Yeah. It was pretty clear to me that he was being scammed. But I didn’t definitively know what was going on, so I asked him if he could start recording his phone calls with the scammers.

Would you be so kind as to do me a favor?

Would you be willing to give them a call and record them?

[LAUGHS]: I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’ve been recording them.

And it turns out he already had been.

Worry Free Vacations.

So he shared the recordings of these calls that he’d had with these scammers over the last year or so. And it was just remarkable. It gave me huge insight into how the scam worked and the way that it sounded over the phone.

Is this is Michael in? I think he’s trying to call me. I couldn’t get through pick up.

Yes, I believe he did try to call you, sir. Give me a second. I think he’s only going to be in for a couple of minutes. One second.

There are two main takeaways for me listening to these calls.

Good afternoon. Michael McCarthy.

Michael, I missed your call. I was trying to pick up.

Yeah, don’t worry. Yeah, I figured something was wrong with your phone. Everything OK?

The first is that these scammers had really gotten to know James so well, and they really made James believe that Worry Free was a company that was working for him.

That’s why we need to hurry up and get this money over to you. Because hey, I’m losing my mind too. I’m not even here to convince you, James. I’m not — I’m your broker, and —

One of the things they continuously say is, trust me.

Look, I’m doing everything I can in my power and will on my end. So James, just look — like I told you from the get-go, I’m going to resolve this. And we are doing it. I just need you to focus on the goal.

They would refocus the conversation on what James needed to do to get his money back.

Look, if you make your payment as a security deposit, right away they will release the funds to you. With these —

And the other thing —

I’ve been having so much trouble trying to reach you, and I have not been successful.

— is that the scammers had created this elaborate cast of characters.

Why don’t you answer my calls?

And some of them were really aggressive. James shared a recording of this one man who claimed to be an agent for the Mexican government. And he basically started yelling at James.

I don’t care if your wife is at the hospital. To be honest with you, I don’t give a damn! But you know where I do give a damn? It’s your money, and my name is written all over it! Do you understand?

And he even threatened James. If James didn’t pay off these fines, then he would lose all the money that he’d sent to Mexico already.

You could get the best lawyer you want. You could get whoever you want. And this is not a threat. This is facts. But anyways, who am I to convince you, right?

Well, thank you for the information. And — are you still there? Hello?

Wow. So these scammers were basically doing a good cop, bad cop routine to stop James from walking away and to squeeze every last penny out of him.

If you provide me your email, contact information, I will certainly be happy to forward all of the wire transfer information from my bank account to you so that you can see where those funds went.

Yeah, that would be great. I have your email.

James asks me, a reporter who’s based in Mexico, who speaks the language, if I could help him figure out where his money had gone to.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your assistance.

I’m just doing my job. Thanks again, and we’ll talk soon.

And the only way that I could figure that out was to understand who was on the other side of the phone.

We’ll be right back.

So Maria, who was on the other side of that phone line?

So by the time that I’d met James, I’d already gotten a tip from US law enforcement agencies that they were seeing a new trend. Mexican drug cartels were getting involved in the timeshare scam industry.

Drug cartels?

Yeah. And not just any drug cartel. This is one of the most notorious, violent, bloody drug cartels that exists in Mexico and Latin America, the Jalisco New Generation cartel. And when I looked at James’s bank records, guess what? All the money that he was sending was going to various bank accounts that were all located in Jalisco state in Mexico.

Wow. So why would the drug cartels get into the timeshare scamming business?

It is a huge business. The FBI told me that it’s about $300 million in profits over the last five years.

But the thing is is that the potential for it to actually be multitudes more is huge. Because the FBI estimates that most of the scams are actually not even reported. In fact, only about 20 percent are. So that means the total timeshare scam business could actually be much larger than the $300 million that they have knowledge of over the last five years.

But wait. I thought the drug business was a pretty lucrative business in itself. So why get into the scamming of elderly people for their properties in Lake Tahoe?

Well, you have to remember that these drug cartels, they’re not just doing one thing. They’re doing multiple things. They’re essentially conglomerates. Because it’s really expensive to run a cartel. You need to pay off officials, both Mexican and American. You need to maintain basically an army in order to secure your routes up to the United States, ports of entry into Mexico from Colombia. And any big business, you need to diversify your income to make sure that you keep the money flowing. Because you never know when one business is going to be shut down by authorities or taken over by your rivals.

We’ve reported that they’re now in the avocado business and the construction business. And timeshare fraud is basically no different than any of those. So we’re seeing that the cartels have their fingers in many pies, the legitimate and the illegitimate economy here in Mexico.

It’s kind of fascinating to think of these drug cartels as like sprawling diversified business empires. But when did the cartels first get into the scamming business?

So Jalisco New Generation started about 15 years ago.

And when they started to consolidate their empire in Jalisco state, they found that there were all these scam timeshare call centers all over the state that were being run by various players, and that this was a huge, huge moneymaker. Because essentially, all you have to do is call up retired senior citizens in the US and Canada. It doesn’t take that much money to run that kind of a scheme. There’s no product you’re making.

So essentially, they conducted a hostile takeover of these call centers. They went in. They kicked down doors and dragged out the people who were managing these call centers by their hair and threatened to kill them unless they gave up the call centers or started handing over a cut of what they made. And slowly, slowly Jalisco New Generation cartel took over the entire timeshare fraud industry.

Interesting. Were you able to find any of these call centers?

So these call centers are pretty hard to find. They look like any other storefront. But I was able to visit two that were located in an upscale neighborhood in Guadalajara, which is the capital of Jalisco state. And it was just really perturbing because it was just so normal. Two villas about a mile away from each other outside. Outside of one villa, parents were walking by, holding their children’s hands as they did drop off at school.

It was right next to a park where people taking their morning exercise or their dogs for a walk. There was no real sign that the cartel was doing business there. But a few months before, Mexican law enforcement had found the bodies of eight young people who had used to work at one of these call centers and said that the Jalisco cartel had killed them.

Wow. What happened?

So I wasn’t able to talk directly to any of the victims’ families. They’re just too scared. But in general, this is usually how it starts.

The cartel seeks out English speakers to work for their call centers. Sometimes they don’t even tell them what exactly they are doing. They would tell the recruits that the job was adjacent to the hotel industry.

You have to remember, Jalisco is a huge, huge tourism magnet for Americans and Canadians and others. And the cartel would get their call lists from bribing hotel employees to give them the names of people who stayed at these hotels and also at the timeshare resorts. And the people who would work at the call centers are provided the names and a manual of what you need to do when you call, like a loose script of how to try to suck as much money as you can out of these people up North in Canada and the States.

So we don’t know for sure what exactly happened with the eight young Mexicans who were killed last year. But through an intermediary, one sibling told us that when their family member knew what their job actually was, they became extremely uncomfortable and tried to leave the call center and find another job maybe.

But the Jalisco New Generation cartel is known for being extremely brutal. They chop off heads, and they’ll put them on the gates of a playground, for instance. So that everybody in the neighborhood knows what went down. And in this case, it’s possible that they wanted to send a warning that there’s no defection from their timeshare call centers.

So basically making a very scary example of these guys, in case anyone else is thinking about quitting one of the call centers.

Exactly. And one man, who runs an organization who advocates for missing people and actually organizes search parties to comb the forests of Jalisco state looking for the missing, says that he knows of about 30 people who have disappeared from the call centers in Jalisco state since 2017. So while Americans and Canadians might be losing much of their life savings, in Mexico, this is actually deadly.

Are the authorities doing anything about this?

Not really, other than the fact that these two call centers were shut down. The authorities haven’t arrested others. They’re not putting pressure on Mexican banks, for instance, to look into these payments coming from senior citizens in the US or Canada. And you have to remember that people are really afraid. But you also have to remember that in Mexico things are not that clear. There is a lot of corruption and government collusion with organized crime and cartels.

And the tourism industry, it is huge in Mexico and particularly in Jalisco state. This is a multi-billion dollar industry. They don’t want Americans or Canadians or Europeans who are coming to Jalisco for its beautiful beaches and its mountains to hear about these stories regarding the cartels being involved in the tourism industry and think, I’m not going to send my family there for that beach vacation. It’s just simply too dangerous.

So everybody has an incentive to have the scam continue, whether because they’re too afraid and don’t want to speak out or because they’re in on it.

So in a way, local authorities have an interest in sweeping it under the carpet in order to just maintain this idea of a tourist destination.

Exactly. I mean, the spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office was very responsive to me until I told her what I wanted to ask her questions about. And then she just simply never answered any of my texts or phone calls.

So Maria, based on everything you know, all the information you have, would you say that you’re confident that the cartels were the ones who scammed James?

Yes, 100 percent. Everything I’ve seen points in that direction.

What did James say when you told him this?

So it took him quite a while to really allow himself to believe it. On the advice of his lawyers, he stopped picking up the phone calls. And about a week ago, they stopped after the scammers kept trying to call him.

But you said he was in it for over a year. Why do you think it took him so long?

Can you tell me, after all of that had been presented to you, why do you think you weren’t willing to be entirely convinced?

Well, I actually asked him that question.

That’s a very good question. Why wasn’t I able to pick up on that right away? And I think in the back of my mind, I’m finding out that I’m a little more stubborn than I thought I was.

And for him, it was pretty complicated.

And I think that I didn’t want to believe that I had fallen for this. I didn’t feel I was that foolish and stupid when it came to this. You know? I guess I didn’t want to believe that I could be fooled.

To come to terms with the fact that he had lost so much money was to come to terms with the fact that he wasn’t the person that he thought that he was, that he wasn’t this kind of clever former law enforcement officer who was used to fighting the bad guys and winning.

I’m disappointed in myself. There’s a huge level of anger towards the perpetrators. And all of those things wrapped into one. And part of that, I think, contributes to not wanting to actually believe that I was wrong.

Hmm. Yeah, I hear you. I’m sorry. I can hear the pain in your voice.

[LAUGHS]: Yeah.

Some of it’s based on shame, right? That he lost all this money, everything that he’s worked for, and the fact that this was all supposed to be money that his children and his grandchildren were going to inherit. And now it’s gone.

And have you told your daughter that you think you’ve come to terms with the fact that this might have been a scam?

Oh, she’s been involved. Yeah. They know.

My daughter does.

I’m sorry. This is a tough time.

So I’ve got to make some sort of arrangement to compensate them for this on top of our regular debt. So yeah. It’s been a swell experience, all of it brought on by my — evidently, my stubbornness to believe that I couldn’t possibly be a victim.

How’s your wife doing throughout this whole process, with this new knowledge?

She’s not real happy, obviously, at all. I hear a lot of “I told you so.” And at this point, I’ve got no defense. She’s absolutely right. There’s no question about it.

Do you worry this is going to affect your marriage?

Yes, there has been an effect.

And do you think that at this point there’s any way for James and his family to get some kind of justice or at least find some kind of closure?

Ay. Justice? Unlikely.

At this point, I’m not necessarily expecting much in the way of restitution.

And as for closure, it’s a little bit too soon to tell. In a way, James has gone through several stages of acceptance for what happened. There’s fear. There’s shame. There’s resignation. And now he’s talking to me partly because he feels like it’s a public service, that he needs to be vocal so that other people don’t go through what he’s gone through and fall for the scam. And I think it also helps him feel a little bit empowered in a situation for over the last year and a half he was at the mercy of these people who were calling him multiple times a week.

I want to try to get as much information to as many of these official organizations as possible. I have a streak of anger through me now that I’ve developed to the point where I’m not going to let this go.

Well, Maria, thank you.

Thank you for having me.
